Stage 69:

Clearly the enemy is getting desperate.

You can tell because they sent you a bomb that was designed to kill everyone except Kiki-hime. You also undermined a long term plan to distract you and get you out of the way long before they were ready for you, thanks to interference by your cousin and to Er Yin's abilities and your connection to her. The net result: you cousin under the care of Hinata-hakase and revealed to be the reincarnation of Pauchi Kamuy; Wakaba's death by seppuku rather than becoming a youkai or bakemono, the revelation that Kaga is working with the people who want Kiki-hime for themselves (you knew the Kaga Clan had something to do with it before, but now you have proof they're actively involved), and you've forced them to step up their game to eliminate everyone except Kiki-hime.

Which brings you to the moment.

Currently you have all your prisoners in one Barrier: four Kaga Clan sorcerers, young and pretending to be members of the local Catholic diocese; Benten Fuuko, a Wood oni-child who served your cousin Hauko and is a member of his harem; and Ryuu Neriko, one of the trio of Void dragonettes who served under Wakaba, who is also close to Hauko's heart. The Barrier is inside your living room, which you've obscured with a massive swirl of hurricane force winds, abyssal waters of both the hot and cold varieties, and a layer of fog above and below. Demonstrating your resolve was as easy as tossing the corpse of your last prisoner into the whirling vortex of destruction surrounding you all; it was just a corpse you stole from a university for use as a practical joke, but joke became merely practical when you turned it into a vanishing blur of bloody water and foam to demonstrate to your prisoners how deadly the toroid of inclement water and wind is.

That's important, because you currently have them suspended in pillars of wind, with swirls of water moving around them to hint that they're imprisoned. The sorcerers are going to believe it since they're relatively young and inexperienced. But the only thing holding Benten Fuuko and Ryuu Neriko in place is their own fear, assisted by the fact that you look like some demon-god from some anime inside a Barrier since your demigod nature is completely obvious.

As long as you can keep them off balance, you have a good chance of learning a few things without getting into a fight with them. This is important, because you're at the same level of Shen they are, and both of them are fairly strong against your power, being Wood and Void to your Water. On the other hand, you shouldn't underestimate the sorcerers either.

The question now is what the question is!

[] Sorcerers first – what is clan Kaga trying to accomplish?
[] Neriko first – why were the Void Triplets assigned to Wakaba?
[] Fuuko first – was the whole Anonimous thing a ruse?
[] A little more terror tactics – you have extra sorcerers available.
[] Isolate one from the rest, and only let the others see, not hear your warning (Choose one victim).

[X] A little more terror tactics – you have extra sorcerers available.
[] Isolate one from the rest, and only let the others see, not hear your warning (Choose one victim).

As frightened and shocked as they are, they need to truly understand how serious you are. You're not willing to kill them – at least, not yet – but you have a variety of options available that are a lot scarier than death. Waking up and seeing a dead body vanish into the waters is good for shock value. Now you need something long term.

Water Eyes is good for interrogation, because you can extrapolate and infer a lot more from what is said and felt than any psychologist or professional interrogator. It also tells you a number of other things about your opponents of course. Such as:

Benten Fuuko is utterly dedicated to your cousin; it's definitely love, albeit more brotherly type than you had thought at first. You're no yaoi fan but you'd suspected something a little more intimate....ah, it's there, carefully hidden. He does love Hauko, but he's unaware that Hauko cares for him, and is playing the stoic bodyguard type. That should be a nice surprise for him later. He's also very, very worried, though not nearly as scared as the others. He's quite certain he'd survive impact with the blender from heaven, as much as it would hurt. His secrets are well hidden for the moment.

Neriko is angry, very angry. She's aware of the other two Void dragonette's death; they might not have red string between them, but they were close enough to manage concerted magic. She's also deeply in love with your cousin, even though she's an outsider among his harem in comparison, much like Yui is in yours. She's unaware of how important she is to Hauko, and that makes her take risks for her love she otherwise wouldn't, like attempting to use forbidden magic and going against the orders of Oba-san.

The oldest of the four sorcerers is the leader; he's using his clan training to try and stave off the terror he's feeling. He's never experienced anything like what's happening here, even though he's been in Barriers before. He's also completely terrified of your form; it's like nothing he's seen or read about, much less been taught. Of the four, he's the strongest and the best trained, and he has information he is trying to keep from you.

The other three are somewhat younger, but it is the youngest, the seventeen year olf girl, who is completely at a loss. She was never prepared for this type of situation; facing down youkai, banishing evil spirits, and laying curses, sure. Facing angry dragonettes in Barriers made of total destruction? Not in the playbook she was given! The other two are more calm, but they're mostly following the leader, and expected trouble. Maybe not this much trouble, but they're sure he can cope. Not her – she's absolutely positive they've ventured into 'you dun goofed' territory.

You look at them and then slide through the air to hover before the pillars of air imprisoning them. With a gesture you the pillars around until she's in front of you, though you keep everyone facing forward. “Name?” You hover slightly above her and narrow your glowing eyes at her. Currently, there isn't much destructive potential in area outside the storm-walls; that's something to keep an eye on too, ha ha.

“W....wha....”

“Your. Name.”

“Keh-Kim....” she stutters, her rehearsed lie crumbling under the circumstances.

“Why is Clan Kaga trying to interfere in Clan Ryo business?” She has absolutely no idea of course, but that doesn't matter.

“I-I don't know...what you are talking about!” The lie has holes deeper than the craters of the moon.

You grin fiercely. “I see. Then there's no point in keeping you here, is there?” Wakaba would have been proud of how insane you look.

“Wai-WAIT!” You pull your right hand back and carefully avoid allowing anyone but her to see the wink. It startles and confuses her so badly the burst of hope she feels is crystal clear to your Water Eyes. It makes the gut punch double her over and all the air is forced from her lungs. “HHGLLPH-”

The glow of your eyes makes colors confusing which in this case is a good thing. The water you fill her lungs with and protect her from drowning in is black, and erupts from her mouth and nose like a geyser of blood, spattering your hakama and kimono. She goes limp, her body trying to cope with what you just put it through, which makes her fall into the shadowy void opening up beneath her appear all the more realistic. You place the poor girl into a Barrier and shake off the 'blood' spatter, your glowing red eye making it seem even more like blood. Once more pristine, you secure her in your deepest, darkest Barrier and keep her safe rather than dead. You'll give her a chance to leave the life she's lead so far later.

Oh yes; now they're all REALLY scared, even Fuuko.

[X] Ask the leader of the Sorcerer's the question now.

You're quite certain that Fuuko and Neriko are perfectly aware of what your doing as far as questions – Water Eyes and the strange cleverness of Water dragonettes isn't a secret in the clan, and everyone knows you don't want to be interrogated by a Water dragonette. But your reputation as being very calm and down to earth, as well as humble, is completely the opposite of what they're seeing here. Add to that your physical changes and the peculiarities of the wind and water you're playing with currently and they're as off balance as the poor Clan Kaga sorcerers are.

You sweep in low and slide around several of the pillars, making the other girl squeak in terror, while the other boy is trying extremely hard not to wet himself. Slithering through the air you pull up in front of the leader of the diminished group of Kaga initiates. “You look like you have some brains compared to the last two.” He straightens his back and clenches his jaw. “Why is Clan Kaga interfering in Clan Ryo business?”

His mind is racing trying to figure out how little he can get away with telling you. You give him a few heartbeats to figure out what he thinks might work. “All I know is that Kagyu-sensei was sent here to kill cat youkai and nogitsune-born. We were told that the nogitsune-born were planning to interfere with Hojo Group work for some reason, and Hojo group asked us for help.”

It's an interesting mixture of truth and lies. Leaving out the part where the 'nogitsune-born were going to use the cat youkai against Hojo Group' so you'd ask that question and give him more time to plan his next lies was a nice touch. He's lying about the part where it was the nogitsune clan going to interfere, though. He made that part up. Interestingly, he wasn't lying about Hojo Group requesting help. Water Eyes clearly see he's hoping you'll go after the Hojo Group angle, rather than specifically who asked for help.

[] Have Fuuko and Neriko explain that lying isn't the best option for him here.
[] Carve up his lies and hand them back to him on a plateful of crow.
[] Play along, and guide him to the answers you need rather than the ones he wants to give.
[] Let him live for answering, and 'kill' the other poor boy let them misjudge your sanity.
[] Ask how they managed not to get slaughtered by the nogitsune-born....they can't be that weak.

You definitely have to give him points for quick thinking. It should be fairly interesting to see how quickly he gets tangled up in his own tale. “So why kill the cat youkai? They don't have anything to do with nogitsune-born. Cats and dogs and all that.” You can see the light going on inside his head, and the gears spinning faster. Well not really, you never did figure out why people said that. But the point is, he's decided you're gullible.

You pretend not to notice Fuuko's and Neriko's glance at each other.

“The nogitsune-born were going to use the cat youkai against the Hojo Group's operations. Influencing their luck and causing accidents.” Talk about predictable. Maintain, maintain: he'll slip up soon enough! You slowly circle his pillar, moving gracefully though the air and locating at least two weapons and a seal on his person before you stop in front of him again. “Kagyu-sensei's sword protected us from the cat youkai's powers as long as Father Boohr held it. His faith empowered the sword and protected us....Kagyu-sensei was highly placed in the Clan.” Truth, truth, and half-truth; Kagyu – whom you presume was 'Monsignor Julian' – was exceedingly unhappy about his assignment for some reason.

“So the Hojo Group was in serious danger, huh? But you should have known that this is Clan Ryo territory you're playing in. Why didn't he come to us?” You lean back slightly, emphasizing your booms and distracting him. It works too.

“Well....the truth is that Clan Kaga has a lot of debt to the people who control the Hojo Group, and I guess they offered to pay that off instead of letting Hojo Group become indebted to Clan Ryo.” Partial truths again; it's specific controlling interests in Hojo Group. Probably the very same ones that arranged for Clan Kaga security and collected a couple of demigods to throw at you as cannon fodder. He licks his lips and glances at your cleavage, despite the lightning filled scar between your breasts. ...talk about drawing looks.

“You know....you could set us free and we'd owe Clan Ryo a big favor, especially if you helped take care of the cat youkai and nogitsune-problem for us....I'm sure we could work out some kind of agreement?” He looks up at you, into your eyes. “I'm senior on this mission now, after all. I'm sure I can help you get a hold of the....right people in Hojo Group to help you out.”

….wow, this kid has some balls. If it weren't for the part where he was planning on trying to smack you with that seal if you say no, anyways. Humans always push it that step too far.

Well, it would make them think we don't have any inhibitions about destroying them painfully, for starter. And since it clashes with our profile, they won't know what's coming.

Also, remember that the last time they saw us, we were about to fight the demigod of Madness, and they not only seen, but also helped him do his work on Wakaba. Not to mention that they're Wood and Void: the guy is very aware of the different possible futures, so his mind is probably going full "please, universe give me an opportunity to survive, and I'll take it" and the girl is likely to be naturaly creeped out by a soul that has been twisted. That is, if she feels guilty about what she has done. Otherwise, she probably will be in the "oh shit bad karma" zone

You are absolutely positive that the only reason Neriko and Fuuko aren't interrupting is because they need the information too. If they didn't, you'd bet your horns that they'd be telling this idiot to shut up in a heartbeat.

He hesitates, and his thoughts are in turmoil. Oh, you can't hear them, but Water eyes can see how messy his mind is, how desperate he is to placate and how he needs this opportunity to advance. The Head of Hojo Group Security, of course, is one of them, Watanabe Denyo....and of course you would gain the appreciation of the Head of the Hojo Group....” You smile brightly, and you can see him calculating how close he can get without giving away the real name, not aware he's already done so. He wavers between too far and not far enough.... “But it also goes back to Kaga Ushino, the head of my clan.”

You float back a few feet, smiling brightly. “I see....those are very powerful people indeed to need your assistance so badly.” He nods, sharply, his mouth a thin line. He's relaxed, he's got it in the bag, you're going to let him and his fellow acolytes go and they'll take you right into the trap.

This is why Clan Ryo forces every clan member to be interrogated by Water dragonettes and Water oni-children. So you don't make stupid mistakes like this.

“Of course....” you say as you slowly swirl around him several times, your tail-fins sliding though the water and air holding him up, making all his tension come back ten-fold. “....if Kagyu-sensei had actually been sent here to interfere with my work and prevent me from protecting Kumatori Kiki by killing cat youkai and nogitsune-born as a distraction so that I'd be out of the way when the people who are REALLY using your help – you know, the two people whose names you DIDN'T mention – as part of his punishment for annoying the leaders of the clan....and if he hadn't indebted himself to those two people and been forced into killing a large number of innocent and harmless creatures, I might have actually believed you.” you smile, letting your mask slip a little, letting the lightning fill your throat and the glow in your hands intensify. The storm gets faster too, and you let thunder rumble through the room.

He stares at you, shock at his lies being so easily discovered written so plainly across his face you don't need Water Eyes to see it. He tries to bring up his hand and throw the seal at you, but you swat his hand with your tail and catch the seal with your left hand, where it instantly turns into blue flame and ash. You giggle softly, and shake your head, before lifting up both hands. “But, you did answer all my questions, every one! So....you get to live!”

You conjure a whirling ball of storm just before your hands. “Of course, someone has to get punished for your lies....” You Hurl the sphere at the poor lad who screams, just in time to be engulfed in a typhoon that grows out of the ball, a roaring tornado of water and wind that both rises and falls into the storm above and below his pillar, leaving not a trace of him.

That's because he's in one of your Barriers of course, but the maniacal laughter you let loose with sure does make it seem otherwise!

The girl faints, and the de-facto head sorcerer is looking at you, white as a sheet and now HE'S about ready to piss himself. You drift out to look at Fuuko and Neriko. Water Eyes can see that they're uncertain and unsteadied by your seeming madness, and they're very close to a breaking point. Unfortunately, in Clan Ryo, that means they'll gang up and try and take you out, or at least use Barrier Combat to subdue you. Two on one would be very dangerous, but they're still at the edge. “So....about you two....”

[] Fuuko-kun, tell me about Anonimous....

[X] Well, you learned something....what's it worth to you two? (Test their flexibility.)
[X] Neriko-chan, whose orders do you really follow?

You feel their Eyes on you instantly. You don't know as much about Wood Eyes that belong to oni-children, but they're probably similar enough to dragonette eyes that you need to be exceedingly careful about listening what he says to you. The Void dragonette....well, she definitely knows you're a nascent demigod now if she didn't before. The look on her face is a little bit alarming, actually, because she's actually working very hard not to use hand signals to warn Fuuko that you're a monster. Probably thinks you're bakemono already.

Fuuko, on the other hand, is trying to see his way through this, and you are having trouble following his thought processes. Ideas keep forming, branching out, collapsing, and forming again. It's a little like looking at a pop up book made of things he can say and do that make the pictures move being flipped from cover to cover, with the book changing each time.

“Careful....you might want to consider what Hauko-kun might want you to do in this situatio9n. He can't see you now, of course, but I'm sure he wouldn't want you to do anything too dangerous....” You can see the relief that knowing Hauko is alive brings them, but it doesn't cause Neriko to relax in the slightest. Her Void powered mentality is too deep for that to affect her in the here and now, unlike Fuuko. “Still, you learned at least a few things, if not the whole picture....maybe we can trade, instead of me being all bitchy.”

“Tit for tat? I don't think you really want to hurt Neriko-san and I, Ryukusa-san....maybe a question each?” You slip through the air, lying down on a breeze and gazing at Fuuko with interest. “Well, two on one isn't fair, right, so....” He consider, and then grins, a wicked sort of grin. “You get a question for each of us on any subject at all, and then we each get a question, but we can only ask about a given area or subject, and can't change it once we ask along that line of thinking.”

It's an interesting proposition....could be dangerous, especially since they can somewhat determine truth using Wood Eyes and Void Eyes as well, though not nearly to your capacity.

[] Accept. (Automatically asks each of them the questions in the previous choice.)
[] Deny. (Continue with the question to Neriko first.)

[X] Deny. (Continue with the question to Neriko first.)

….you know, it's pretty subtle, those wood eyes. Not compared to the subtlety of a Water dragonette conversation, but it's also really....~pernicious~ is the word for it. It can strip away a lot of free will. Unfortunately for Fuuko, you're a Water dragonette and your will is not so easily stripped, even by that peculiar power of Wood Eyes.

“I don't think so, Fuuko-san. I'm not even close to being that easily influenced by Wood Eyes.” They both react with shock, which is what you're feeling, but you don't let it show. You had absolutely no intention of letting him know you could feel his Wood Eyes working on you, but apparently they still have a measure of influence over you. More likely it Kami-shit. “That being said, I think you should be very quiet for a few minutes or I might take something you say the wrong way.”

He nods at the toothy grin you give him. Very quick on the uptake, he is.

“So, Neriko-chan....whose orders do you REALLY follow?” You slide down to the fog and rise up in front of her, looking into her dark violet eyes. “I mean, Oba-san ordered you and your friends to work with Wakaba, but you ended up following Anonimous....but were you really?” Her Void Eyes are wide open, and you can almost feel the intensity of her gaze.

“Why does it matter to you, Ryukusa? You seem to be doing your own little thing with Hojo and Kaga. I don't think it matters whose order's I'm following in the end.” She's clearly baiting you, her fear masked under anger. Fuuko, clever boy, is very carefully saying and doing nothing, though he's keeping Wood Eyes open – apparently he realizes he can block you with them at the very least.

[+] BTW, you really fucked up Wakaba, you guys.

You giggle, that high, sweet, “I'm so naughty” giggles that evil little girls the world over have down to a science. Well, Japanese girls, anyways. You would know.

“Neriko-chan....are you sure that's a good idea?” She looks confused for just an instant, just a flicker, and it stays in her mind even though it's gone from her expression. You slowly slip through the air in a slow circle, keeping your eyes on both her and Fuuko. “I mean, sorcerers are one thing, it's true....” You stick your right hand in the tumult of oceanic fury and atmospheric destruction to gather a thick, heavy ball of it as you circle back to her. “....but on the other hand, I may be done with all the silly games and playing nice....and I WAS being nice....” You hold up the swirling sphere of rampant weather the size of her head.

“And you kind of have to wonder – well, I do anyways – exactly what's lurking behind the 'not nice' mask, hmn?” You flex your talons and the sphere compresses, black and midnight water swirling faster with the storm-grey winds rising to a whining shriek above your palm. “Because, after the number you guys did on Wakaba – and you really DID a number on Wakaba, who killed herself so she wouldn't become something horrible – you kind of have to wonder....” Leaning close, you hiss softly to her, “....how bad did my master fuck up Ryukusa's head?”

You close your gleaming red talons over the small sphere and is shrieks before becoming a vibrant, base hum that makes your horns itch. Hers too, from her expression, but her mind is quailing, searching frantically for a way out of this disaster she's gotten herself into. “So yes, it definitely matters whose orders you follow....because the right answer means you get to live. And the wrong one....” A twist of your hand and a flick of your wrist and a typhoon erupts from your palm, eradicating the other two sorcerers in an instant. And of course depositing them in the same barrier at the boy you got earlier. No more humans in the way, though technically sorcerers deserve whatever happens to them according to most people.

Smiling sweetly, you float before her. “So....about that question?”

Her panicking mind is racing this way and that, and she is shaking like a leaf....which is why it's something of a shock when she leaps out of her pillar and wraps her arms around your neck and kisses you quite thoroughly.

Her mind is instantly clear, Water Eyes revealing the screen of thought-babble for what it was now that she's no longer working so hard at it. Second time a Void dragonette has pulled that shit! The kiss is nice, if unexpected....and then the lighting bolt hits you. Quite literally, Neriko lights you up like a Christmas tree with Void powered lightning, and the shock breaks your power over the storm surrounding all of you. Fuuko drops to one knee on the floor of your living room Barrier as the storm dissipates, though he's still ogling the two of you. For your part, you're in agony, and your heart is tripping all over itself, but you're by no means disabled thanks to Matagama-no-Shitoki.

[X] Kiss her right back – with Water.
[+] Switching over to dragon diplomat mode might be good....

It is the very definition of irony that on anyone else, her assault probably would have ended the fight there and then. As nice as it is to kiss a girl whose never kissed a girl before – because you can smell over the ozone that she's innocent of such affections as you prefer – this is not really the first time you've kissed a lightning bolt at the same time. And she's a different body type than your other lovers, more a slim and tight body, so that's new also. On the other hand, your Pearl is starting to heat up, your heart is kind of doing some heavy overtime at this point, and most importantly: Er Yin Long does this a heaven of a lot better.

So when you kiss back and wrap your arms around her, though you are careful not to use your left arm too much, her eyes are the ones that widen in shock.

You kiss her far more throughly and skillfully, and just before she tries to bite, you flood her mouth, lungs, and throat with water. She collapses back onto the floor, water pouring out of her mouth as she tries to breathe. “Sorry, the mistress of my wife's sister already did that one, and really, she's a much better kisser. Though, you're not bad for a virgin lily.” Your hair is a staticky mess, and you send a wash of oceanic water through it to smooth it out, and your clothing which happens to be smoking in places.

She manages to cough up and vomit up most of the water, and she's still struggling when you turn to Fuuko. “So, guessing you're not into the whole flowers and petals thing, huh?” He shakes his head mildly. “Yeah, thought not. That's okay, my cousin likes you too. He's not bad, just a little twisted. Not that I should really be talking I suppose.” Fuuko is looking at you with a cautiously curious expression, but about this time Neriko is finally coughing up the last of the water. You clean her face and blouse off, and take a jar of sake out of ~Nowhere~ and offer it to her. She blinks.

“What say we start over,” you suggest softly. They look at one another, both pretty confused.
