Stage 70: Daring Dragon Diplomacy.

In the heat of the moment – and in your defense, 'the heat of the moment' is usually synonymous with 'inferno of fucked up situations and problems' – you often forget some pretty basic principles.

One of the biggest ones is that when you're faced off against spirit-children with elements close to yours, the same difficulties you have with them are often mirrored in problems they have in dealing with you. For instance, Ryuu Neriko's electrified kiss probably would have done in any other kind of dragonette, even a Fire dragonette. Sure, it gave you heart palpitations and scorched your clothing, but you weren't incapacitated by that. It has nothing to do with your demigod nature or the level of power you have developed over the course of the past weeks – it's simply that Water rises to meet the Void.

On the other hand, she's not so great at breathing water without a little help from you, so that ended that attempt at escape pretty quickly. Likewise, you've discovered that Water eyes have great difficulty determining the psyche of someone using Wood Eyes, like Benten Fuuko. On the other hand, his Wood Eyes power doesn't work nearly as well on you as it would with someone who was of Fire or Void, because the very cleverness imparted by Water to you is what supports the power of Wood Eyes.

As a result, rather than continuing to play mad dragonette, you put the remaining Clan Kaga sorcerers into various Barriers inside the one you built and have decided a less stressful pow-wow was in order. After all, they're in exactly the sort of position Yui and Er Yin might be in if you were captured and held prisoner without them knowing anything about where you were or your condition. They're as much Ryuu Hauko's family as Er Yin long and Ryuu Yui are to you.

Neriko-san is gulping down some sake, and washing the salt water from her mouth and stomach, while Fuuko-san is looking up at you with cautious optimism. “Start over?” He queries after you offered to cease hostilities and start over.

[] Yes. Start over. From scratch. No hard feelings on either side.
[] More or less; I'm not crazy, and you two aren't stupid.
[] A fight between us is gonna fuck everyone up....and I'm betting you're kind of in trouble too.
[] We have some time, some sake, and we all have information to share....so sure, why not?
[] We got off on the wrong foot, and I'm willing to back down a bit. So yes, start over.

One little stint as being crazy and they get all "oh man please don't kill us I'll get you first" on us. They're technically inside (of a barrier inside) of our house, that's not something you just do to your host. Rude. Way too rude.

[X] Yes. Start over. From scratch. No hard feelings on either side.

You shrug and settle down cross legged in front of him, ribbon-stacking your tail and leaning back against it. You knew there was a use for that much tail. “Well, time isn't passing all that quickly here, we're relatively safe, and we all have things to talk about, I'm sure.” You pull another jar of sake out and hand it to him, and collects some cups as well. “Besides, Im not really any more crazy than either of you are stupid. I just look different because of some of he aforementioned information that I'm not sharing yet.”

He chuckles and pours sake for you and he, settling into a seiza position. Neriko sits cross legged as well. You'd offer them a chair, but you obliterated the ones inside the barrier in your moment of creative scene setting. “So, now that you know Hauko-san is alive, why not just start from scratch, no hard feelings on either side.” You're being pretty generous here, since your team beat theirs hands down, and Neriko did try to begin a fight just now.

Apparently Fuuko-san seems amenable, since he's pickign up a cup and offering it to you, even though you're the host, humbling himself. “I think that's pretty fair. We're on Ryuu Hauko's side, and I think you'd already guessed that part.” You nod. “Anonimous was pretty much his attempt to lay the groundwork for his own organization. Hauko-sama was certain he'd be butting heads with Oba-san sooner or later, though he never really said why. Starting an organization from scratch takes effort and money, of course....”

Like you were intending with Chisato-chan's gang and the nogitsune clan; the difference being your plan has an infrastructure already to work off of. Two, technically. “That makes sense. So you were just there to see if you could get candids of Kumatori Kiki?”

Neriko shakes her head faintly. “Not entirely. That's why the oni were there. We were there to help Hauko-kun try something new and dangerous. Using some of his power in a new way.”

Jigaki? Thought it was seppuku,

Usually the person committing Jigaki is not afforded the honor of the near-beheading, for females it is often seen as a death to wash away their shame and clear their family name after their husband has died, but because Wakaba was samurai and more than worthy of the honor of the complete ritual, we afforded it to her.

It's all very confusing and doesn't make sense, like most Japanese rituals.

[+] Anonimous explained indeed....though there was one thing....

You nod slowly. “I can certainly understand wanting to experiment with new power all right.” You recall very vividly the true lightning you directed....and the distant ocean you stirred in the Barrier. “But turning a human into a bakemono might have been taking it a little far. The kami don't take that sort of thing lightly.”

“We told Hauko-kun about that, yes. But he explained that because it was his power, it would be his burden, even if we were the ones using that power.” You look at Neriko dubiously. “He said it was because of his mikoto; that his mikoto made the magic we used possible, and would channel the ire of any kami on him as well.”

You let out a low whistle. “Sounds like Hauko-san learned some things that I didn't.”

Fuuko pours more sake and you sip it. “That doesn't seem to surprise you, Ryukusa-san.” You glance at him, confused. “I mean, about the fact that he learned something you didn't, not that he managed such a thing.”

You give Fuuko a mild shrug. “Well, I don't think oni-children are particularly stupid even by Water dragonette standards. Hauko-san might have been impulsive and hot tempered, and definitely had some peculiar ideas, but he wasn't stupid by any means.” you consider and sips your sake. “Though, I should tell you....Ryuu Wakaba committed jigaki to prevent that from happening to her.”

Neriko looks rather shocked. “Really? Suicide?” You nod. “That's....that's definitely not what I expected of her. I would have thought she'd embrace that kind of existence, not refuse it.”

The Wood oni-child grimaces. “She was already batshit insane before that though.”

“No doubt about that,” you agree. “She was planning on killing Akari-chan and trying to take her place. I think Oba-san was encouraging her. Still, to cut her belly like that....” You shake your head. “If she hadn't, who knows what might have happened. And speaking of crazy, as single minded and fanatic as your lesser Anonimous members were, there was one that was outright sociopathic in your echelons.” It occurs to you that may have been intentional on Hauko's part. You can see destructive forces....perhaps he can see insanity some how, or use it in some way.

That news gives Fuuko-san a case of the jitters she quickly drowns in a cup of sake. Fuuko merely nods. “It's incredible, how intense the people Hauko draws to him are. I think that's part of what he was worried about Oba-san finding out about.”

You can sympathize with that!

[] Speaking of which, you two need to forget how far along I've come.
[] Speaking of which, you two are part of his inner circle....has he found the rest?

“Since we're on that topic,” you say, uncoiling your tail and pulling one foot onto the opposite thigh, into a half-lotus position, “what were Oba-san's orders about me anyways? I know what Wakaba told me, but I think we've determined crazy isn't exactly the best source of reliable information.” Fuuko-san nods grimly, but Neriko-san looks a little offended. “Ah, sorry, sorry, I didn't mean Hauko-san. He's not crazy, he's the embodiment of it, they're not the same thing!”

Though you're not really sure of that.

Neriko nods, accepting your apology. “From what Wakaba said to me, she was ordered to make sure that the only thing you did was watch over Kiki-san. Her orders, as she explained them to me, were to 'make sure you kept your hands, tail and tongue to yourself', and if you didn't she had 'permission to slaughter anyone near you to make sure you kept your nose clean'.” Her voice sounds exactly like Wakaba's when she repeats the orders, and you suppress a shudder. Less about the spooky voice than knowing how close it came to her doing exactly that.

“Hauko's orders were quite a bit different. He and his team were meant to keep an eye on you and report any unusual displays of power or ability, especially anything to do with lightning, tornadoes, or tsunamis. Regrowing an arm didn't quite seems to fit into any of those categories, so he ignored that, and you never showed off anything that we heard about or saw.” Your careful efforts to make sure people kept quiet seems to have paid off. Fuuko catches your eyes and leans forward. “He had the same orders concerning Ryuu Nabiki.”

That's a surprise. “Nabiki-chan, that cute little wood dragonette that meditates a lot?”
>>
>>39262149
“Yes, but in her case it was anything concerning strange voices, shadows moving around, or strange oni-girls in red robes showing up.” He leans back, certain he's got your attention on her. “I thinks she might be like you or like Hauko-sama.”

That's a critical piece of information all right. “Well, I'll have to look in on her since Hauko-san is staying with Hinata-hakase-” Their twinned gasps are almost worth laughing about. “-who is not nearly as bad as you think she is. She's a dedicated priestess who has a horrible job she does well. One of those things is now helping Hauko-san grow into his power properly.” you pour more sake for the three of you. “Speaking of which....you two are his inner circle, the people precious to him. But he'll need more, probably four more oni-children. One for each element, except of course Fire. “

They look at one another, then back to you. “There is a one-horned wood oni-child, Taberuhito Ichika-san....and Ryuu Natsuo-san, a stone oni child. Natsuo is from out clan, but Ichika-san is from Hokkaido, Fuuko-san explains. “They're close to him as well.” A man-eating Wood oni-girl and another warrior. Sounds like he's got his hands full of mystics and killers.

“He'll need to find or be found by a Void oni-child then, and only then can he gather his true strength. Remember that – it's important.” You stand up slowly and finish off the sake.

[X] Right then, a couple of things before I kick your sorry asses out.

“Do you know of any others that might be similar in nature to Hauko and I?” You drop the formality here, looking at them seriously.

“You mean, demigods that were hidden or untrained?” Neriko-san's question has a little bite to it.

“Yes, I mean exactly that. I think Oba-san has been playing a long and very dangerous game and that chances are good there might be two others – Void and Stone. I'm sure you can imagine what might happen if either of those two are hers to command.” That entirely wipes out any bitterness Neriko may have been feeling for you.

“If I do, I'll contact you through Akari-san, Ryukusa-sama. I don't think it's a good idea for anyone to have any kind of real control over people like you and Hauko-sama, and not just because you are dangerous.” He seems earnest enough. “I think it's wrong to harm people's mikoto in the way you and Hauko were hurt, and I think it might even be dangerous.”

You suppress the instinctive wince. “Well, be that as it may, I have to tell you two things. One, if Oba-san finds out how far I've progressed, she'll do anything, and I mean ANYTHING to keep it a secret. Two, I promised Hauko-san I would keep you as safe as I could, and that means letting you know that sometime relatively soon, there will be a major disaster across all of Japan. If I were you, I'd defect, and seek sanctuary in the high mountains or with Hinata-hakase, where you'll be safe from what happens.” You look between the two of them as the implications sink in. “Since I got permission from Oba-san to sanction you all, I'd do my very best to be sanctioned. Stay out of Clan business, especially where it intersects with Hojo Group, and watch out for those Kaga idiots – they might try something even more stupid to lure me away again.”

Neriko bolts to her feet. “You were supposed to KILL us all?!”

You look seriously at her. “I DID kill you all.”

Fuuko stands up and takes Neriko's hand. “She's right. Your friends bought your life with theirs. I think she's done more than she had to.” Neriko's lip trembles and her eyes grow wet. Benten Fuuko turns to you, still holding Neriko's hand. “Thank you for your help, and your kindness, Ryukusa-sama. I won't forget it, and I won't let Hauko-sama forget either.” He bows, deeply, and after a moment Neriko bows too, her eyes still wet and her face still shock pale. Interesting that the stone oni-child you dealt with isn't counted worth mentioning by his standards.

“I appreciate the honesty and help you've given me, Fuuko-san, Neriko-san. May your kami watch over you, and may your Kamuy love and protect you.” That last brings a sniffle from Neriko, and Fuuko smiles sadly, knowing exactly who you are talking about. “Go over to the door, and I'll make sure you get out of my house safely and without anyone knowing. You'll have to jump the wall though – believe me, you REALLY don't want to attract the guard dog's attention!” You remember something more, and hold up a hand. “Hey, are either of you familiar with the Mill Pond Demon?”

“Other than being told to stay out of it's way, no, Ryukusa-sama,” replies Fuuko-san.

Neriko shakes her head, but then seems to remember something. “Hina-chan used to tell me he was once a master painter, but since he became a kappa, he hates the fact that his water dilutes all his paints. She said it makes him very bitter and angry.”

“Ah, thanks, that actually helps a lot!” They both look at you like you really ARE crazy – which is probably more true than you'd like to think – before they take their leave.

Once they've stepped over to the door, you dismiss the Barrier and cover their escape with a loud thunderclap and a puff of fog as you appear on top of the coffee table. Your sudden appearance startles Yui-niji-chan you throws up her arms and whips her taiko sticks out, ready to blast you or beat you. Kiki-hime gives a yelp of fright from the kitchen, while Kiku-chan bursts out of your and Kiki-hime's room so quickly she's merely a white and red blur that ends up between you and the doorway. Shoko looks pretty non-plussed, standing near Kiki-hime in the kitchen entryway. Akari is carefully stacking the blocks of C4 in a small metal case on the floor next to the coffee table, and completely ignores you, the brat.

[FUCK YEAH] Sudden Death By Water Pistol To All Opponents! No Mercy For The Unprepared!

“Whahaha! What, you were worried about me? How quaint! But it is I, the invincible Ryuu Ryukusa! Anlso, don't shout, Yui-niji-chan, it alerts the enemy to your lack of preparation.” You bring up your finger and shoot her....with a very real stream of water.

“Ackghf!” she sputters, and Kiku-niji-chan wrips two fingers to her lips and exhales sharply, a streamer of flame jettign out to you, only to miss as you fling yourself siderways and around off the table to shoot a jet of water at her. She dodges easily...right into the OTHER stream of water you shot some dozen feet away.

“AH! BAKA MIZU RYU!” You stand up right and aim your palm at Kiki-hime....and the Coffe table leaps up into your way as Akari swats one side of it, crushing the side of it into splinters. Unlike the others shes already following up with a leg sweep and you leap over it. You throw out a palm and she slaps your palm with hers and you cartwheel over her head, her carnelian eyes gleaming red and a wicked little smile on her face.
>>
>>39263832
Shoko's jaw drops as she realizes what's about to happen. “Oh shit!” Grabbing Yui-niji-chan by the collar and dragging her into the kitchen, she blocks the doorway with her entire body.

Kiku-niji-chan bolts to the hallway, giving you and Akari plenty of room to work in as you land on your feet and sweep tail and arm out to batter Akari-chan. She flips herself into a horizontal body roll between both limbs, and lands next to the easy chair....which she casual kicks, sending it flying towards you with the force of an artillery canon!

Everything mentioning that seemed to imply it would spontaneously happen some time in the future, like a piece suddenly giving out or an area being hit by a natural disaster. Not an immediate episode of "Dragon Girls Gone Wild!"

[X] Taihenjutsu Dodge, Gain the Strong Position!

Though it's not nearly as well known as it's utterly made up cousin ninjutsu, and it's ridiculously flashy in comparison to it's brutal cousin jujitsu, and it's far less grounded than it's sister aikido, taihenjutsu is commonly learned by Water dragonettes and dragonnes as it suits their movement oriented bodies and minds, hence the name – Body Flinging Art.

Naturally there's a lot of jokes about that, but right now isn't the time for them!

You hurl yourself over the chair, flinging your hands out and shooting streamers of water towards Akari-niji-chan's position, but she's long gone from there. Which is fine, you just need her where you ant her, as opposed to where she was. You land lightly as the chair crashes into the wall and floor, it's own weight crushing the fame and leaving it a ruined mess. A no-hands cartwheel as you hurl a pair of orbs of salt water towards the couch, which prompts a leaping dive from Akari, who rolls under you....and starts turning.

Too late! You're already landing and swinging your arms up and out, hands holding balloon-like spheres of water....but she's ~also~ ready, her hands crossed at the wrists and coming down, smacking both your arms and their deadly – er, drenchy – cargo towards the floor!

[X] Hugs!

You could follow her hands down, which would give you position on a leg lock – and while she is stronger, you're both looking for a positional advantage here, not a brute-test. On the other hand you could turn it to a move-counter-move by letting her hands bring yours down, then curling them in towards yourself and reversing the relative positions, leaving her arms under yours and unable to block your double watter balloon strike. On the other tail, you could grab hers with yours and yank her around and off balance, but to do that you'd have to move back to back with her, meaning it's a draw. Of course, you could let her sink you down, and slide BETWEEN her legs, coming up behind her and then placing your hands on her legs or back, meaning she can't escape your grip!

Scorpion kick is just too Matrix for you. You're sorry you even considered it.

Instead of all of the above, you drop the watter balls and slip your arms under and through hers, spreading her arms as you step into her for a hug. She relaxes and wraps her arms gently around you, her eyes closing and her breath a soft, warm sigh against your bosom as you nuzzle her hair and rub your horn against her tiny jade spikes.

“I'm glad you're okay, aniki.”

“Me too, Akari-chan.”

All around you is the shell shocked silence of people who have never seen a REAL dragonette fight between experts before.

It's their fault, they should know better than hire Beautiful women like that to teach martial arts to Ryukusa.

It was very looking at the votes and realizing there was 2 votes for every options, I even considering deleting my vote just make it less of a tie.

But as always, thanks for the thread.
>>
>>39265052
It's not on purpose XS! Probably. Honestly with so many different degrees of multi-vote between anons, I usually have no idea what's winning unless it's a landslide kinda situation.

Thanks for writing, it was nice chatting with our prisoners.

Also, wonder what Nabiki's role in the plot will end up being. Maybe we'll have to seek her out.

>>39264240

Mostly correct.

Damage inside a Barrier is delayed, but the more extensive and incredible the damage, the more quickly and pervasive it will happen in the real world. Literally, Ryukuza 'killed' the essential nature of all her basic furniture in the barrier, in a very thorough manner. As a result, there isn't anything at all keeping the furnishings 'alive' in the real world.

The fact that Akari chose to use furnishings as her weapons of choice is related to her penchant for throwing large heavy stuff at her opponents to distract them.

Admittedly she wasn't expecting the coffee table to break like that.
>>
>>39265200
>spoiler
Maybe she'll worry (well, 'worry') about getting punished for it then.
>>
>>39265182

I wonder if this'll end in a big battle between the reincarnated Kami amd Kamuy and Obaa-san's and Taisho Ryoga's forces while ALL the natural disasters happen at the same time.

My readers and players would have to be very patient with something that complex. I can write fast, but not that intricate, that fast.
>>
>>39265461

>>
>>39265461

>>
>>39265461
Well, you could have each demigod fight separately, we see only Ryukusa's side of the battle with occasional glimpses of the others when they do something big.

Just the image of each Demigod opening a path for Ryukusa to reach Obaa-san's Final Form is enough to make me hyped.
>>
>>39265676
But yeah, as this guy said,
>>39265591
It's just a joke/idea, no matter what kind of finale this quest has, I am certain it will be as awesome as everything that came before it.
>>
>>39265461
XS, considering the speed we tend to do things, you have more then enough time. But honestly, based on what we've been doing, we'll be facing off against some pretty big bads in the end.
