You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

"You've sure become popular, Karla." Sam grunts as she shuffles through a number of files. "Intercepts of OB communications have a very high number of mentions for you and the rest of the Wild Cards."

"Huh, I can't imagine why." You say as you roll your eyes.

Currently, you were in one of the Artemis hangars at the Pillar, Atlas' B7R headquarters. A salvage team had come out to recover the Morgan wreck you had found at Avalon Dam, and hurriedly shipped it all the way back here. In secret, of course. Not even Atlas staff knew about it. Not yet, anyways.

"You know, I can't believe it." Sam shakes her head. "People have been looking for that plane for YEARS, and never found it. And then you just happen to come along and scoop it up in a day."

"Ace's luck, I suppose." You shrug.

"Either way, it's a huge fuckin' mess!" Smokey grunts as he walks up, wiping oil from his hands. "The frame is still miraculously intact, but pretty much everything else is trashed. It's not getting back in the air anytime soon."

"Quint, can we get parts for it?" Sam turns to your resident merchant/conman."

"Hmmmmm." Quint frowns as he inspects the Morgan wreck. "I'm sure there are standardized parts that we can get easily, but it's not going to be enough. The Morgan was literally a one of a kind fighter, so spare parts are virtually nonexistent."

"Well, that's not entirely true." Smokey interrupts. "Karla here shot down an OB Morgan not too long ago, right? That means they must have a way to manufacture or maintain them. If we can find out how, we might be able to rebuild it."

"So you're saying we infiltrate or assault an OB base?" Sam blinks.

"That's one way." Smokey shrugs.

"Karla, there's no guarantee that we'll ever get this plane up and running ever again." Sam says to you. "If we can transfer the wreck to our R&D department, they might be able to glean something from it. We're prepared to compensate you with the purchase of one plane of your choice from our inventory. Free of charge."

"Wait, what?" Quint gasps.

"You heard me." Sam says.

Such a shame that we'll probably never reproduce an ECM as good as the original; a TLS as energy efficient; or find someone willing to sell us MPBMs.
>>
I want to see what they will offer but I won't trade it in, we will end up flying in it.
>>
>>39270236
I'm more interested in the "LEGENDARY PLANE" Status, which can be good and/or bad considering "Here comes the SNOW!", or the whole incident with the ECM not covering up the front air-intakes and taking all that battle damage (possibly giving it some reliability issues).

Shame about TLS, but maybe Merc will make it available on final threads.

And we still need to check one of faults that our uncle pointed to us, maybe we can get something useful there.

Hey there, buddy.
>>
Actually, the options shouldnt be so hard and fast right?

I mean we do have the plane and its not like we're going to say 'no you can't take a look to see what makes this thing tick'.

They can inspect, do scans and download all the data they need want to do their R&D. The only thing where we draw the line would be teardown work which would render the plane unusable.
>>
>>39270416
>The only thing where we draw the line would be teardown work which would render the plane unusable.
that's what the R&D department wants to do

OUR morgan, Pixy's morgan.

they fuck up our plane, we add them to our kill tally
>>
>>39270445

Yea but what i mean is that even when we dont agree to the teardown, they'll still have access to see how the morgan works so its not a total loss to them.

And maybe they can compensate us abit for that access, haha.
>>
>>39270485
But this is the Pixy Morgan we're talking about

Typhoon - 45000: A very agile multirole plane that is extremely light for its size.

Rafale - 50000: A highly capable multirole plane with both advanced weapon systems and avionics.

F-35 Lightning II - 60000: Essentially the successor to the Falcon, the Lightning II is designed to be a nimble multirole with stealth capability.

F-22 Raptor - 80000: The successor to the Eagle, the Raptor is the current pinnacle of mass produced fighter craft with both stealth capability and highly advanced avionic systems.

F-23 Black Widow - 80000: A competing design for the Raptor, the Black Widow benefits from greater speed and stealth capability, but at the cost of maneuverability.

PAK FA T-50 -80000: The counterpart to the Raptor, the T-50 likewise is designed with stealth in mind. It is more maneuverable than the Raptor, but has less electronic and stealth capability.

"I think I'll still hold onto it for now. Who knows, maybe we'll stumble onto that Morgan factory OB seems to have?" You joke weakly.

"Well, it's your choice." Sam shrugs. "We'll keep it in the hangar for now. R&D might come in and do a few tests, but I'll tell them not to touch it otherwise."

"Thanks."

"Hey, Karla!" Lara waves at you as she enters the hangar. "You planning to start flying that Morgan around?"

"I wish." You sigh. "Nobody knows how to fix the damn thing, so it's just a useless hunk of junk at this point."

"Aw, that's a shame." Lara shakes her head. "But hey, don't worry, Smokey can fix anything!"

"I'm sure he can, given enough time and money, at least one of which I definitely do not have."

"Ah, cheer up, we'll find a way!" Lara slaps you on the back. "Anyways, I'm gonna go check up on my Eagle. It got a little banged up on that last fight and I want to see if Smokey hammered out all the kinks! Wanna come with?"

You briefly think about it. You didn't really take any damage from that attempted OB ambush, so all your Eagle has suffered was the normal wear and tear. However, you didn't really want Lara flying around alone, even if it was in friendly airspace.

On the other hand, you could see Sam starting to leave the hangar. If you wanted to tell her about the Vaults, now was the time...

"Yeah, sure, I'll come along." You nod. "Hey Smokey, is my Eagle ready to go?"

"Fueled and armed!" Your crew chief nods. "And no holes, either. Make sure you keep it that way!"

"Yeah yeah, I'll keep that in mind!" You chuckle. You head over to the lockers to suit and you turn to Lara. "So where are Lilian and Amy at?"

"Doing other stuff I guess." Lara shrugs. "Think Lilian went to the comms center to catch up with her family, and Amy is teaching the Butterflies how to make proper attack runs."

You cannot even begin to imagine Amy as a teacher, much less the Butterflies being obedient students.

"Come on, let's not waste time!" Lara says excitedly and trots out of the hangar, with you following right behind.

---

"All right, girls." Loki says as both you and Lara get your Eagles up in the air. "This is just going to be a standard patrol mission. Nothing fancy. Stay within our airspace and try not to pick any fights with the other corps. OB are of course engage on sight. Is that clear?"

"Crystal." Both you and Lara affirm.

"Good. I'll keep an eye out for bogies. Call me if you need me."

"Ten bucks we get jumped by something he doesn't even see at all." Lara chuckles once the comm line is cut.

"Why is that even a bet?" You laugh. You then check your tactical map. Your plotted course kept you well within Atlas' territory. However, you saw that the coordinates for the Vault your Uncle knew of weren't too far off. Just a minor detour and you'd be right over it. Loki probably wouldn't even notice the course deviation. However, it brought you perilously close to Dahl's claimed territory. Heading their by air might be a bit risky...

"Well uh, I want to see if there's any evidence of this old Belkan War weapons cache. They call them Vaults." You say. "But uh, this is pretty secret, so don't tell anybody outside the squadron, okay?"

"Lips. Sealed." Lara assures you. "Oooooooh, we're on a treasure hunt! This makes things a million times more exciting now!"

Well, she was enthusiastic about it as always.

Now this just left the issue of how to approach. Going in high meant that you would be relatively safe from any potential ground fire short of SAM sites, and would allow you to loiter for a bit to get a better view of the area. However, you'd be easier to detect on radar. You could go in low under radar, but down that low you wouldn't have a lot of time to check out the site before having to move on.

Unfortunately, you pass by too fast to really catch anything. It's just one big, brown blur of sand and dust.

"Damn, Stripes, did you see anything?" You ask.

"I think I caught sight of a building or something, but I can't be sure." Lara says apologetically. "Sorry."

"Don't sweat it." You sigh.

"Wild Cards, you both have dropped off radar. Is something wrong?" Loki asks.

Damn, you suppose he would have noticed something like that. He might get suspicious if you lingered too long here.

Use loki's reputaiton for not being able to spot shit against him. Then follow up with

"Sorry, Loki, we just thought we saw something dirtside." You say. You guess you'll have to come back later. "We're returning to original course."

"All right, just checking." Loki says. "I'm also picking up increased comm chatter on Dahl frequencies, so be careful."

"Radar contacts?" Lara asks a bit too eagerly.

"None so far."

"Aw, ok."

As you pull up back to cruising altitude, you survey the area as well as check your radar. Since you're on patrol, you keep it on since you want the other corps to know that you're out there watching. You return to your originally planned route, skirting the border between the Atlas and Dahl held territories.

"Wild Cards, be advised, I'm picking up heavy activity near you." Loki warns. "Looks like a major furball going on."

"Anything we should be concerned about?" You ask.

"No Atlas or Artemis tagged planes. Looks like they're either fighting off a Hyperion or OB raid." Loki says. "I strongly advise you to steer clear."

"Oooooooh, but that's a target rich environment!" Lara squeals. "C'mon, Valk! Just one pass! Pleeeeaaaase?"

"Fine, one pass." You sigh. "Then we're out."

"Yesssss!" Lara cheers.

"Well, good luck, girls. Don't say I didn't warn you." Loki says. "Send you the radar data now."

You see a number of target indicators wink on on your HUD, showing a mass of planes twisting and twirling in the air. You squint your eyes, trying to identify the attackers.

"Hey, wait a minute." Lara grunts. "Those don't look like OB planes."

Sure enough, it looked to be the dark green Dahl planes up against bright yellow Hyperion ones. It was apparently a spat between corps. However, you wonder what the hell could possibly bring Hyperion this deep into enemy territory.

"Oh maaaaan, so many juicy targetsssss!" Lara squeals.

You dive down to the deck, literally right under the noses of the battling corp planes. You bank your Eagle slightly to get a better look at the facility they're battling over. You can see what looks to be a huge, open pit mine. However, right down the pit, you could see a set of thick blast doors.

With a faded Belkan flag pattern emblazoned on them.

They were fighting over a Vault!

From what you could gather, it looked like Hyperion was trying to drop bunker busters down the pit to destroy the Vault, no doubt to keep it out of Dahl's hands, while Dahl was naturally trying to protect it.

You're reasonably sure that if you told Irons about this, he'd definitely send a force out to seize it.

Call in allies to take the vault for ourselves.

Our uncles advice to destroy the vault is meaningless if others are already being plundered - or he was on the side of Dahl - removing competitor's access to vault technologies, equally possible for a spy.

IF this war is going to be fought with balkan supertech, then our company needs to maintain an edge. If we want to maintain secrecy, well...... our teammate is rich as fuck and can probably privately excavate it and keep it under wraps.

Okay so plan of action:

Call for backup
Inform artemis of furball
Go in for combat run,
yell at everyone about being in area B7R being a no man's zone, and to prepare to defend themselves
Get our apprentice in the air, and also salvage teams en route, expecting to grab her morgan and the vault in one go

You decide to radio in for backup. After all, this was waaaaaaaaaaaay beyond what you could handle yourself.

"Loki, it looks like they're fighting over some kind of old, Belkan facility." You report. "Can you relay it to the Pillar and see if we can't get some backup here?" You ask.

"Roger that, I'll send word right away. "Loki says. "And watch out, you've got inbound!"

"Yeah, I see them." You nod as you catch sight of four planes headed straight to you. A pair of MiG-21 Fishbeds and a pair of F-20 Tigersharks. They had to have some serious balls coming at you with such outdated planes.

"Stripes, you still alive out there?" You ask

"Yeah, tangling with a couple Hyp planes! Give me eight seconds!" Lara grunts.

Well, you could always just go ahead and engage your attackers. They were in pretty crappy planes, so it shouldn't be too difficult. On the other hand, they did have numbers advantage on you, and having Lara backing you up would be a big help.

You instinctively try to dive below them but they explode, showering your plane with shrapnel.

"Damn, not bad." You seethe as the Tigershark pulls away to renew the attack run.

>>39275535
You remember the promise you made to Uncle, and honestly, you weren't sure what was in that Vault and what Irons was planning to use it for. Even though you were working for him, his motivations weren't all that different from Dahl's and Hyperion's.

No, you had to destroy it.

Fortunately, your Strike Eagle modifications allowed you to carry bombs in addition to your extra missiles. You believe that if you could get a good enough angle, you could drop some bombs directly into the shaft. Even if you couldn't destroy the Vault, at the very least you could cave it in and seal it off.

"Cover me, Stripes!" You grunt as you climb to get a suitable attack vector. "Keep that Tigershark off me!"

"Roger that!" Lara affirms.

Fortunately for you, nobody else seems to be engaging you, consider the furball going on all around. However, there are a few close midair collisions. You finally get into a position to dive bomb the mineshaft.

And again, you miss! You can only imagine Amy just looking on in disapproval at your poor showing at ground attack.

Suddenly, two missiles streak past your Eagle, causing you to bank in surprise. The Tigershark swoops past, having failed its attack run on you.

"Sorry, Valk! This guy is really damn slippery!" Lara apologizes.

"Don't worry, let's get out of here." You grunt, turning your plane back to Atlas territory and hitting afterburners. "Too dangerous staying here on our own."

"Awwww, okay." Lara sighs as she hits afterburners too. Thankfully, neither the Dahl nor the Hyperion planes opt to chase you, considering they were still busy battling each other.

"So I wonder what that was all about?" Lara asks once you both are a safe distance away.

"That was one of those Vaults I was talking about earlier." You say. "The corps out here are fighting to the death over them. It's were OB is getting all their shiny new stuff."

"Ooooooh." Lara nods. "I guess that's why they're sending such a huge force."

You look up to see not only the Butterflies, but at least an entire air wing heading for the uncovered Vault. That had to be literally almost all of Atlas' air assets. Irons sure wanted that Vault very badly. And just behind, you could see a number of transport helicopters, no doubt troops to secure the site.

"Think they'll get it? Lara asks.

"I don't know." You sigh. You're not sure if you even want them to succeed. "Let's get back. We have planning to do."

This is why that fucking stupid mechanic of 10's erasing the best roll on a D10 needs to go, its a fucking 30% change to just invalidate all other rolls.

A bombing run, especially after we zero in, should be fucking trivial, and yet because it's left to the dice, we get fucked over on something we can do with our eyes closed.

Merc you could at least introduce some kind of Ace Points like Star Power or something for those moments because its fucking sad watching us have a goddamn stroke because of the retarded dice.
>>

>>
>>39275943
indeed but NO people had to hunt for the vault and disobey orders (which no one really noticed thankfully), and the ever so "functioning" /tg/ dice went against them.

>>39275955

and he did reuse the same "confession after near death experience" plot device in both VMQ and VMQ2, which irked some fans slightly (if he did it again, there would be rage)

if anything what would happen is that merc would leave it to the dice (which he seems to like alot) which would then screw us over.

We've asked for it and discussed it at least 4 times in these threads and have yet to receive a single reply from Merc on it.

>>
>>39276043
Anon we've always had shitty rolls, this system overall has always been extremely mediocre, considering that theres a flat 30% chance to lose your highest roll for no reason, and that's not taking into account how the seed generator clusters results when you roll within a short time period, so if you roll 3 dice in 3 separate posts at the same time, you end up with the same result in those three posts.

When you have a system using dice as small as D10's and lots of rolls being called in posts in such a short time, the system gives you garbage, like we've seen time and time again.

The session suffered from shitloads of other issues least of which were the expectedly crap dice.
>>
>>39276044
I've been noticing that lately his posts seem to have less content in them, are getting shorter and longer apart, and he's becoming less descriptive and detailed in his writing, making more mistakes and reusing the same words more within paragraphs and sentences, more tell and less show, in the last couple months. Hopefully it's not a permanent thing and his quality goes back up soon.

Missing a chance to tell Sam about the vaults thus set up a plan for them behind atlas' back

B)Found a vault but ultimately couldn't do much of anything about it.

C)More or less went against orders (which could have been bad news considering mercenary groups don't look kindly upon their employees going against their cilents), Luckily things were so busy and the fact we failed to blow it up that no one really knew about the disobediance.

All in all we spent about 7 hours (no thanks to Merc playing a game while running) in real time for not much of anything
>>
>>39276127
Cry fucking more. Merc's a person too, he's allowed to do whatever the fuck he wants behind the scenes.

Anon voted the way they did, the dice rolled the way they did, and now YOUR job as the player is to actually deal with it next thread. Bitching about it here like a little shit does not change ANY of that.

I certainly hope you didn't do anything else while reading the thread, that your attention was only focused here and nowhere else, ever. That would be the only excuse you have for whining this hard about things.

Fuckssake, 749 posts, 130 images, 59 players over a 7 hour run. I'm one of those "Failure at one juncture doesn't immediately mean we're doomed forever" faggots. There's a difference, but I don't think you have the capacity to understand that.
>>
>>39276392
>>39276405
Both of you shut the fuck up already.
>>
>>39276405
I'm not thinking it's a doomed forever thing, in fact I think we escaped the worse case scenario as no one noticed Karia disobeying orders and actively stabotaging something Artmetis' cilent wants.

Atlas getting the vault could be a setback, though it's too soon to tell how bad.

It doesn't change the fact that this thread was absurdly unproductive. I'm starting to wish we never found that plane as if we didn't the morons among the readers wouldn't be so distracted.

It also doesn't change the fact that A) Merc's starting to slip and B) He likes the dice too damn much.
>>
>>39276448
Merc didn't force anon to make the choices they made, nor did he will the dice to go against us.

This is the only reason you or that other faggot even care as much as you do right now.
>>
>>39276448
>the morons among the readers

Get over yourself.
>>
Holy shit.
what the fuck happened here.
>>
Or maybe he had the game paused in the background for something to do when he couldn't right more for a few minutes while waiting on decisions or dice.

Or maybe that'd just too much common sense for you shit lords.
>>
>>39276518
Two anons got butthurt because we didn't win today's objective, now Merc is the worst QM, the quest is on the verge of failure, and anyone who disagrees with them is a fan of grimderp and clearly does not have the ability to make correct decisions like they do.

With luck they actually do drop the quest, so future threads can deal without them.
>>
>>39276543
And once again you continue to just make shit up and grossly inflate and exaggerate whatever it is you speak about without touching a shred of the truth.
>>
>>39276557
You have continued to do everything to prove me right.
>>
>>39276564
I haven't even posted in your idiotic argument before just now, so good job being That Guy.
>>
By the way, for people defending Artemis: They're just as evil as Atlas in HAWX. There are no good PMCs around here, only good people in them.
>>
>>39276590
I'm hoping Artemis are not just a copy paste hack job in this and that Atlas take their role from HAWX, it would be pretty shitty if Artemis were exactly the same.
>>
>>39276590
>in HAWX
Which is not this quest.
>>
>>39276608
Neither is the cod Atlas is from or borderlands the others are from but people treat them like that.
