You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

"No missions today?" You blink in surprise. You've noticed that your workload has been getting much lighter as time passed. A good sign, you suppose?

"Nothing pressing." Colonel Kelsey shakes his head. "Things have been pretty quite all along the line so far."

"Is it because of the Chinese wanting to pull out?" You ask.

"Officially, neither side's leadership will comment on the current state of the conflict, citing security concerns." Kelsey says simply. "Unofficially, and according to rumor, China has silently agreed to a ceasefire while peace negotiations are underway. Of course, you didn't hear that from me."

"Naturally." You nod. "It's just that with all this free time, my squadron has been sitting in base, and they're starting to get... antsy."

"I don't doubt that." Kelsey sighs. "Normally, in a drawdown situation like this, I'd have you sent back to the States or transferred to Europe. But... well... the Chinese are a bit unpredictable and there's always a chance the whole thing goes tits up. But... there is something."

"Like what?" You ask.

"With China largely pushed out of Korea, the only major threat left on the east coast is Vladivostok. The Navy is already redeploying fleet assets to blockade the city. NATO's literally knocking on Russia's front door now, but they're holding off to see if they're willing to negotiate. If they don't play ball, well..."

"I see." You nod. "You can get us a spot?"

"I could, but there's something I am concerned about." Kelsey frowns. "Your new addition, Misono. How is she?"

Ah, you figured he'd talk to you about this.

"She hasn't taken her father's death well." You sigh. "She won't come out of her quarters. Barely eats, either."

"Well, since she's officially part of your squadron now, I suggest you get things sorted out with her, first." Kesley says.

"Is that an order?"

"Just an opinion."

Question to the anons, do we tell her the truth?

Also, if we tell her the truth, do we ask her if shes going to follow in her father's footsteps if she tries to kill us?

We do sort of suck at telling lies. Also, long term relationships are build on trust and all that jazz.

We might just limit how much of the truth we tell to the questions she asks instead of full blown herp derp, we got your daddy killed.

>>39313141

But first we lay out everything we know about her dad. The operations he started and funded that led to the deaths of Japanese and Korean servicemen. His betrayal of his country.

Then we lay out our involvement in this case.
>>

>our involvement in her father's death of course.
Do you think Misono is too stupid to put together that an American serviceman at the side of the Emperor when he comes to charge and execute her father for treason, which her father admitted to doing, that the American would have nothing to do with the evidence behind the charges?
>>
>>39313259
That seams like a breach of OPSEC, on top of being of questionable value to her mental state.

We should find out first *Why* she's distraught - whether it's because she's in despair that her father was a traitor, or that she feels that his death was unjust.

*after* we figure that out we can decide what's appropriate to let her in on, and how. Else we risk a BSOD stabbing spree breakdown.

"You're right, I should talk to her." You sigh. "I haven't exactly been looking forward to it."

"I can't imagine why." Kelsey muses. "I'll leave you to it, then."

You salute Kelsey and exit his office, reluctantly making your way back to the barracks. Janice and Tarin were keeping a close eye on Misono, to make sure she didn't do anything drastic. Laika and Rex's return from the states was a welcome distraction, but you knew you were going to have to address this issue sooner or later. You head to the room Misono is staying in, where Janice stands guard outside.

"How is she?" You ask.

"The usual. Just lays in bed and doesn't say anything." Janice shakes her head. "She's still completely out of it."

"Well, I'm going to go in to try and talk to her." You sigh.

"Are you sure about that?" Janice raises an eyebrow. "I mean, I'm glad you've finally gotten around to it, but maybe you should have Jetstream with you? She understands the Japanese mindset, after all. And well, she can protect you to in case Misono gets violent..."

"No, I think I can handle this myself." You sigh. "I think confronting her with multiple people might leave her feeling cornered."

"All right." Janice bites her lip. "If anything happens, I'll be right outside, all right?"

"Of course." You smile and kiss her on the cheek and slowly open the door.

Inside, you see a very sparely decorated room. On the side, you can see a small table where a half eaten meal is left to sit. On the oppose side, you can see the window, closed up with curtains with a small sliver of sunlight peeking through, illuminating a human shaped lump on the bed.

"Misono...?" You whisper. "Are you awake?"

You see the human shape shuffle a little.

"Look Misono, I just want to talk, and I'm not leaving until I do. Could you at least face me?"

The shape then rolls around to reveal Misono's face, pale and devoid of color. Her eyes were also blank and empty, through still red and irritated from constant crying. She just wordlessly stares at you.

>And Pierce isn't japanese.
And Janice pointed that out, and suggested Pierce get someone Japanese to explain to him the Japanese cultural mindset, but he and the majority of players refused that advice and decided to go in unprepared.
>>
>>39314272
"So, Misono." You sigh as you sit down in the lone chair in the room. "I only know of your father from what I've been told by others. Maybe you could shed some light for me? What kind of a man was he? What would drive him to do the things he did?"

Silence. At least for a time.

"He..." Misono croaks, her throat obviously not used to speaking. "He was a great man. He loved this country. Loved its people. He'd do anything for it, even die."

"I see." You nod. "And what do you think about the accusation against him? That he was a traitor?"

"They're lies. They have to be." Misono mumbles. "Fabrications by his rivals-"

"Misono, there's proof his deeds. They are no lies. You're telling me you knew nothing about them?"

More silence, but you get the feeling that it's far more awkward than deadly.

"Misono..." You say softly. "When was the last time you actually TALKED to your father? Before he died?"

"He..." Misono bits her lip, tears welling up in her eyes. "I... I can't remember..."

Yeah, you figured. Takakura was a family man, as long as work didn't get in the way, but with a profession like his, running a spy agency, work was ALWAYS in the way. It reminded of you when Dad was still active duty, how he'd be called away to faraway lands on short notice.

"He was always away, wasn't he?" You ask. "Never quite there when you needed him?"

"Y-yes." Misono admits. "But...but I'm sure he had good reasons!"

"I'm sure he did." You nod.

More silence.

"Captain... I'm going to ask a question, and I want you to answer as honestly as possible." Misono finally sits up on her bed, her tired eyes staring at you. "What kind of my man do you think my father was?"

"Sounds to me like you were desperate for his attention." You say. "I know the feeling. My father used to never be around all the time when I needed him. I hated it for the longest time. But at the same time I was desperate for him to notice me."

"Fathers could be the worst sometimes, right?" Misono smiles weakly.

"Yeah... sometimes they are." You smile back. "But their hearts are in the right place. I hope."

Misono nods, and frowns.

"Peace with Korea?" Misono ask in confusion. "You don't mean...?"

"Yes, the Emperor told me himself that he plans to grant Korea independence." You say. "And well, your father was doing everything to prevent it. He was actively assisting the Korean People's Army, or in fact using his own agents posing as them. We've captured some of their operatives and fought against them! Covert agents, Shinobi witches, things that a third rate partisan force like the KPA never would have access to! All that evidence the Emperor has? Files and documents we pulled straight from your father's computers. He was guilty, no doubt about it."

"I'll... I'll consider it." Misono says. "But I have one favor to ask of you."

"What is it?" You ask.

"One last honor duel." Misono eyes narrow. "If you wish to be my Lord you will have to prove yourself to me. One duel between me and you or a representative of your choice. If you win, I will follow your orders till the very end."

"All right, you can have your duel." You say. "If you agree that this will end things between us once and for all."

"A samurai does not renege on her promises." Misono assures you. "And their loyalty is not something that can be questioned."

"I figured that." You nod.

"Well, then who shall I battle?" Misono asks.

You think about this. You're sure Red or Jetstream would be more than capable of handling Misono. Hell, Tarin probably could, too. However, you figure Misono would prefer to fight against an actual samurai like Jetstream.

Then again, you could always face her yourself. It would give you more legitimacy in her eyes. Even though you weren't a sword fighter, well, she didn't exactly say HOW the duel would go, right?

"Is there a problem with that?" You raise an eyebrow."

"W-well, you don't seem the dueling type..." Misono averts her gaze. "And I was figuring you'd delegate it someone else..."

"I always handle important matters myself." You grunt. "And who said this duel was going to be with swords?"

"W--what?" Misono stammers again.

"Well, the way I figure it, since you challenged me, that gives me the right to choose what kind of duel we have." You smirk.

"T-then what do you propose?" Misono asks curiously.

"All right, we'll go for something a bit more even." You say. "How about a gun duel? I'm sure you can handle that? I figure you're not in top physical shape right now, and a sword fight would be much more physically taxing."

"U-um, yes!" Misono nods rapidly. "I can do that!"

"All right. We'll schedule for after lunch, then?" You smile. "Of course, we'll be using simulation ammo, not REAL bullets. And any hits count, including shields. Does that sound fair?"

"Y-yes!" Misono stammers. She sounds much more nervous, maybe because you caught her off guard.

"All right, it's settled then!" You clap you hands together happily. "I'll be seeing you in front of the hangar, then! And make sure you eat lunch! Janice is a master cook and it pains me to see her work going to waste!"

"My apologies..." Misono bows in shame. "I-I look forward to our duel."

You give her a silent nod and then exit.

"Well, that went better than I expected." Janice smiles when you shut the door.

"You heard all that?" You raise an eyebrow.

"These doors aren't really very well soundproofed. I learned that the hard way several times." Janice winks.

"Uh huh..." You look at Janice suspiciously. "Anyways, cook up something big and energizing for Misono for lunch. She's going to need it."

"Oh, I'm already on it!" Janice salutes. "Perhaps you should check on the others? I'll hold the fort here!"

You decide to go catch up with Laika, considering she's just come back from a brief leave period in the States after getting Frank Bishop up to speed with VDNI.

As predicted, Laika is at the hangar, making sure the techs are taking proper care of the XF-19. After all, she literally treats it as part of her own body, with good reason. She's too busy barking orders in her cute, high pitched voice to notice you slowly and silently sneaking behind her like a lion on the savannah.

"Watch your six, Laika!" You laugh as you ruffle her hair with her hands.

"AAAAH! Willy, stop it! People are watching!" Laika squeaks to the amusement of the technicians.

"Oh? You don't want me to ruffle your hair?" You pause.

"I-I didn't say that." Laika admits.

"Thought so." You chuckle as you give her one last pat on the head. "So, how was your trip to the States?"

"Fun, but not as fun if you were there with me." Laika pouts.

"Hey, I'm sorry, I would've come if I could!" You sigh. "So how was working with Frank? I he as good as they say?"

"Well, I guess he is." Laika shrugs. "He picked up VDNI pretty fast, but he's still just a beginner. A beginner squid!"

"Heh, of course." You laugh. "Did you fly aggressor against him?"

"Uh huh! Once!" Laika nods.

"And you won, right?"

"Well..." Laika chuckles nervously. "Not exactly..."

The .303s were replaced by cannon as soon as the British realized they were inadequate, even in the insane numbers their planes packed (16 on some). After that they stuck with cannon.

THe Yanks found .50s adequate because they were primarily engaging Fighters or light/medium bombers on both sides, and had thicker wing structures that could support multitudes of cannon.

Germans needed cannon desperately because they had to deal with heavy, heavy bombers, and the design of their planes meant they were limited to packing guns on the fuselage; necessitating size and explosive power over multiple guns and lots of shots.

>>
>>39317511
>>39317508

He doesn't think it is!

To be fair, it did have more than it's share of flaws, though a lot of them were trade offs made because the IJN favored out ranging the opponent over every single other concern. it's weapon load was aight- pair of 20mm and pair of 7.7mm, IIRC, but once that 20mm was out, it was about dead useless. And that's a consideration at places like, oh, pfft, midway, which, as it happens, is a rather important place in history.

But he and I argue back and forth all the time about this stuff. He knows more about the technical side of things by far though. I just have to keep explaining to him "no, it's not because they were bad at airplane, it's because their entire mindset was irrevocably fucked."
>>
>>39317508

It actually wasn't that fast, especially in a dive, where it's light frame worked against it.

Japanese engines were weedy yo.
>>
>>39317585
But didn't they developed the Raiden or something?
>>
>>39317585
Jiro Horikoshi made some fucking amazing feats in designing planes. I don't doubt that if he was given the free reign to make a fighter with a decent engine he would have churned out a monster of a plane. Given that he made both the A5 and A6 I would be terrified if he was given a good engine to work with.
>>
>>39317609

If the Raiden had been mass produced, it would have won the war.
>>
>>39317609

And the Shiden Kai, and the Ki-84, and a bunch of other great designs.

It's just a case of too little, too late, if there was even a point where they could've actually won the war for them (extremely unlikely).
>>
>>39317609

Japanese make some -actually quite good- equipments in war, but too few of them to have any impact in war.

>>
>>39317648
Partially because US planes caught them while they were resupplying en masse, so our attacks hit a lot of fuel and ordinance stores
Partially because we broke their codes
Partially because their doctrines were flawed
And partially for a whole lot of other reasons

"Okay, let's go see what our resident mad scientist is up to." You grin as you push Laika's wheelchair towards the hangar workshop.

"Huh? But Sokky is always happy!" Laika points out, confused.

"No, no, the word 'mad' can mean angry or crazy." You smile. "So when people say 'mad scientist', they're actually meaning a crazy scientist."

"...English is weird." Laika grunts.

"That's some truth right there. I was born in the US and I don't even understand our own language fully." You laugh.

Finally, you reach the workshop, where Sokolov is tinkering away as always. He doesn't even notice your approach, still utterly consumed with whatever he's working on.

"Hey, Doctor." You say as you rap your fist on a nearby work table. "You open right now?"

"Huh? Oh!" Sokolov spins around on his seat. "My apologies, I was just putting the finishing touches on my latest project!"

"It's not a doomsday device, is it?"

"Oh, please, only plebians waste time and effort on doomsday devices!" Sokolov snorts. "What I have is much more interesting! Come! Take a look!"

You step forward to see what is laid out on Sokolov's work table and gasp at what you see.

A pair of mechanical legs.

"R-really?!" Laika touches the metal leg with her hand, almost in awe.

Honestly doubt that. To be straight up, after pearl, there was no way for the Japanese to win the war, and the best they could hope for was a favorable settlement in a negotiated peace, regardless of what mr. Meyers wants to think.

And keep in mind, too, that if it had been mass-produced, Americas own aircraft designers and engineers were no slouches themselves. They may kinda get a bum rep, but remember what a monster the P-51 was when the D model started hitting squadron service.

>>39317648

oh, that part's easy. they lost all their carriers.

Getting out of a bird back then wasn't that easy if it wasn't landing the way it was supposed to- no ejection seats, you know, and ditching was incredibly risky. That, along with combat losses- and the need for the fleet to not stick around- meant that your chances as a pilot there weren't that hot.

"Work out all the kinds first, Doctor." You say. "When it' done, I want it done right."

"Understandable. I'll put them through more tests." Sokolov nods.

"Awwwwww, but I wanted to try walking!" Laika pouts.

"You will soon enough. Just gotta wait a little longer, okay?" You say soothingly.

"Mmmmm, okay." Laika grunts, not totally convinced.

"Erm, excuse me."

The three of you turn to see Misono nervously standing at the door.

"The um, men outside told me you were in here." Misono shuffles her shoulders a bit. "Are... are you ready for the duel yet?"

"How about you? Are you ready?" You ask to confirm.

"Yes. I ate lunch and everything." Misono nods.

"Oh, Willy, who's this?" Laika points.

"Oh, right, you haven't met yet." You hoist Laika up in your arms. "Laika, this is Misono. She's a new member of our squadron. Misono, this is Laika, my daughter."

"D-d-daughter?!" Misono gasps.

"Adopted, technically." You add, hugging Laika. "But that doesn't change how we feel about her."

"Mhm!" Laika nods in agreement.

You can almost swear Misono was looking at Laika with envy.

"Okay, Sokolov, you have weapons with simulation ammunition, right?" You ask.

"Ah yes, I just so happen to have a few!" Sokolov and takes out a pair of M9 Berettas. "These are modified to fire paint rounds instead of actual bullets. Totally nonlethal, as long as you don't shoot someone's eye out!"

"Thanks." You take both weapons. "Let's go."

Out on the tarmac, you and Misono face each other down. You check the see if the M9s are loaded, and double check to make sure they're loaded with the right ammunition. Confident that everything was in working order, you hand one of the pistols to Misono.

"So... how are we doing this?" Misono asks.

"We'll just do it like soldiers. Anything goes as long as you hit your target." You say, looking around. There were a few vehicles, some concrete barriers, and some barrels sitting around in the immediate area. Plenty of cover. "On three?"

"On three." Misono nods.

"All right then, one, two, THREE!" You bellow. The moment you say it, you dive drop on your back and fire three shots in quick succession, center of mass.

Misono doesn't even do anything, and lets the three sim rounds strike, creating large orange splotches on her uniform. She winces in pain at first from the sting of the nonlethal bullets.

"Ah, well, I guess you win." Misono smiles.

"You didn't even bother to dodge or shoot." You point out, getting back up to your feet.

"Yes, well, I have to admit something..." Misono blushes. "I'm terrible with handguns."

"Then why didn't you say anything?!" You blink in surprise.

"I... I suppose my pride got the better of me." Misono sighs. "And, well, seeing you and Laika got me thinking..."

"Thinking what?" You ask, already suspecting the answer.

"Well, the Emperor said that I belong to you now, right?" Misono shuffles around nervously. "So I was wondering... if rather than serve you as a ronin I could serve as... a daughter?"

"...what?" You blink. As you try to wrap your head around Misono's request, you see Laika zoom in out of nowhere, launching out of her wheelchair and wrapping her arms around Misono."

"Yay! I have a big sis now"! Laika cheers.

"Ah! P-please release me!" Misono stammers. "Right this moment!"

"Nope!"

You had so many questions right now, but you suppose the best course of action right now was to stay quiet and let this play out. Misono... as a daughter? YOUR daughter? You were never going to hear the end of it from Janice.

You could really use a drink now.

Frank's winning already decided for long time, its only matter on when he will claim it.

HA HA TIME FOR DAUGHTERU QUEST
>>
>>39318442
Feelthy, will we have lewds regarding Frank's new living arrangements?
>>
>>39318447
Sometimes quality is better than quantity. I mean, does anybody REALLY want three wives? That's three times the bickering!
>>
>>39318480
True, but the big three are very high quality on their own.
>>
>>39318472
Yes.

LEWDS WHEN FEELTHY?

>>39318480
Multiple wives is actually net more efficient.

They can field each other's bitching during PMS season, so reducing that to a third means you're at the same net amount of bitching as one wife, but with 3 times the sex.
>>
>>39318480
Yes.
>>
>>39318480

I belive the rational is this:
With one wife, you can't see her all the time.
With two wives, they fight.
With three wives, 2 gang up on 1.
But with four wives, everything evens out.
>>
>>39318480
>I mean, does anybody REALLY want three wives?
From male side?
Yes.
There are people who actually have many wives at same time, and they are not even sultan or some shit like that.
>>
>>39318480
Indeed, it's three girls compared to one woman.

That and it will be a cold day in hell before Merc seriously lets a harem route happen in a real sense (GBFQ only did a bit of teasing)
>>
>>39318508

>>39318530

Inb4 Bridgette. The other girls are either taken, little sister'd or reduced to a minor character most noted for dating young spawn.

>>39318537
I'm not saying it was a bad thing, just that it was the closest that Merc'd get to such a thing.

>>39318555
I say woman in the mental sense. Janice has knowledge and a steady sense of confidence. She regards Pierce as an equal than someone trying hard to impress him.
>>
>>39318522
>it's three girls compared to one woman.
You can't call any of the Big 3 girls and not women.
>>
>>39318589
In that case then between the big three Katya might be the only one that can handle Janice.

Though I'm hedging my bets towards Janice only after a hard fight.
>>
>>39318609
They may have the bodies (specially slider), but not quite the full mentality associated with a real woman.
>>
>>39318610
...does this hypothetical fight involve chocolate, jello, jam, and/or pudding?
>>
>>39318640
You can't be serious...

You have to either be retarded, a troll, or have not actually read the quest to believe that.
>>
>>39318640
They have different issues and for some bigger problems then others.

Janice is pretty well adjusted who's only problem was talking to people which she fixed after witch academy.

Ice with burdens of leadership constantly worries about not losing anyone under her command as well as her being the heir to the Russain Throne.

Slider has feelings of inadaqaucy and self-doubt not too unlike Janice

Katya is a defector, a traitor to her country and a vetern of a very bloody war.
>>
>>39318645
Sounds messy, and I doubt Janice will approve of such a waste of food.
>>
>>39318701
Ice doesn't really care about being heir to a throne. It hardly registers next to anything else she's worried about.
>>
>>39318701
>as well as her being the heir to the Russain Throne.
Why do people keep think she gives a fuck about this?
>>
>>39318640
While in one thing i can agree the Three are not as composed as Janice, i don't think considering them as still a girl is accurate enough.

Looking what they got on their shoulder, i thought they are mature enough in many things, except perhaps in love matters.

>>39318770
I wonder why people keep bringing that thing like that was one of most important thing.
>>
>>39318770
>>39318777
I'm honestly trying to think how I can turn "Heir to the Russian Throne" into some kind of innuendo involving Katya, but it's seriously escaping me outside of (literal) toilet humour.
>>
>>39318792
human furniture?
>>
>>39318770
>>39318777
Well among other things. I just listed the stuff Ice has to deal with if it's not really a problem then I'll cut it out.
>>
>>39318803
its never been an issue for her, it was just a reaction to her "holy crap this is who my grandma was" when she got her locker finally
>>
>>39318813
Again true, I just felt that it needed to be said as possible issue but my original point still stands that Janice and the big three have different issues and in the view of whether or now their a 'women' is kind of subjective.
>>
>>39318836
Well, I'd say the Big 3 are "women" by several culture's standards after the end of last thread, at least.
