Moth bodies are scattered in every direction, remnants of a battle too fierce to even recall.
Your body, your head pounds with exertion, exhaustion, willing yourself forwards through the wasteland of the forest village.
Is there anyone who could help you, any more? Anyone left alive?

"I am fine, yes. Do you need something?"

"I said that out loud?"
"Yes."

You rub at your temples as the owl behind you preens, perched on your shell.
Note to self: Narration is fun, but be sure you aren't speaking out loud. Because it's embarrassing.

Maybe you should find Nin- No, still carrying her. Mission accomplished, well done!
Sheszka is here as well.
And Ezzy.

Little late there, guys.
>>
has nin actually met her mom here yet?
Or did she successfully distract us?
>>
Drunken moths, apparently, sleep much like drunken spiders.
Which is to say that they may as well be dead, limbs and bodies flopping about as you move them, snoring loudly and never waking.

You're hit with a minor temptation-
Piling them up would be so easy. You could make a little moth pyramid, or curl them up and build a fluffy snowman...

Unfortunately, you rather enjoyed the drinks, and Nin would probably like to return home every once in a while. You resist, your will strong against all odds!
Probably not, but you manage yourself this time, at least.

You make it clear of your moth burial, picking up and depositing a groggy wolf onto your shell, and just carting Nin around like an oversized doll.
The village is quiet- The sun is definitely lower than it was, but still somewhere near midday, you think.

A bit of scuttling is enough to rouse your friends as you search the village for someone sober and awake, a chorus of voices whispering and wincing in sync with one another.

"Nnnnn- Lyraaaaaaa-"
"Good morning, Nin."
"My heeeeead."
"Welcome to drinking, yes."

Sheszka and Ezzy are right behind her, the wolf curling further into a ball and whimpering at the light while the snake tightens around your neck, awake for once and trying to hide beneath your hair.

"Oh godssss, never again-"
"Alphaaaa, everything hurts!"

You drag them in front of you, one by one, forcing each to drink water despite their complaints.
And then you scoop up the moth, pile them back atop you, and scoot into the village, still on the lookout for people standing on their own.

You manage to find your friend's father, bags under his eyes, sitting beneath his home with a cup of water in hand.

He waves as you approach, squinting and smiling, even as his face twitches with pain.

We learned something very important last thread. Apparently souls are basically recycled after use, and we are the side effect of the universe failing to reset our soul to a factory state before sending us off. Which probably means we got some poor divine IT worker fired for incompetence!

It does beg the question though, do souls get infinitely recycled between everybody or are they sent down from the awesome first world planes of existence (humanity fuk yeah) to the shitty third world planes of existence.
>>
>>39384565
no, we learned that spiders are an exception to fate because of our god.

The reincarnation thing seems to be a separate mutli dimensional thing.
>>
>>39384595
>we learned that spiders are an exception to fate because of our god
Is rather ambigious if thas actually the case, since at the same time she said that a 'linear' concept of fate like a web or strem is completly wrong anyway.
So its not clear if the spider goddess going "fuck webs" actually did anything, or if it just informed a sort of cultural attitude.
>>
>>39384637
The end effect is the same overall.
>>
It looked to be an effect of a single Arachne, somewhere between the beginning of Archne-kind and now, saying "Fuck your web!" And then proceeded to be a Goddess.
I wish that could be our path as well. So that we could create spider-Sunbutt w/ harpy-Moonbutt pantheons.
>>
>>39384673
Not quite, because the difference is if spider are actually immune to predestination, or if there is no such thing to begin with.
Its definitly relevant if others are controlled by fate or not.
>>
>>39384723
>And then proceeded to be a Goddess.
The way she said it it didn't sound as if the spider-goddess became goddess through that.
She already was and then said, "fuck webs".
>>
I had a whole in depth reason but 4chan considered it spam due to my analogy and ate the post, crashing My browser app in the process.

So tldr: no, all the spider goddess did was make her own fate pool thing, with hookers and blackjack
>>
>>39384565
We already knew about the reincarnation thing OOC. We're just a one in a billion fluke that remembers a past life.

We still don't know this IC because Lyra was black out drunk and doesn't remember her little vision quest.

She'll have figured out the basics, because it's fairly obvious. But would know even fewer details than us.

>>39384637
>So its not clear if the spider goddess going "fuck webs" actually did anything, or if it just informed a sort of cultural attitude.

Well, the little spider that was apparently the Goddess of Fate or something /said/ the Spider Goddess wrecked the system and unbound the Arachne from the strings of Destiny.

So unless a superior expert says differently, I'd lean towards the "fuck webs" really having done something.
>>
>>39384723
>And then proceeded to be a Goddess.
She said "your goddess saw it", which makes it pretty clear she already was spider goddess by that time.
>>
>>39384786
So... we're already a Goddess and now all we need to do is realise that destiny? Do we die or something for that to happen?
>>
>>39384786
We could always pull a mothfia and snort the very essence of evolution.
>>

>>
>>39384840
The asscancer got em
>>
>>39384840
Didn't he bleed to death out of his ass or something?
>>
>>39384820
I have no idea where you get the idea we are a goddess. we are just a regular arachne that just didn't get her soul properly scrubbed clean, as far as we know.

>>39384800
>I'd lean towards the "fuck webs" really having done something
Thats the ambigious part, the way she said we have our goddess to blame for not having a place in destiny implies it did something, but that doesn't really make sense if fate isn't a linear binding thing to begin with.
>>
>>39384840
Fucking Fume Knight man
>>
>>39384786
Well, she said the Spider Goddess woke up in the web, just like we did, then proceeded to say LOLNOPE to Fate.

Soooo.... Having woken up in the web could mean a lot of things.

She could have been a mortal Arachne that had just ascended to Godhood.

Or maybe the Arachne race had grown to believe in a deity of some sort and wished her into existence.

Maybe a Higher God just created her.

Or something else?
>>
I guess we could always ask the OP if we get really desperate for an answer/the shitstorm gets too large.

>>
>>39384902
The quests run by ScrewHue are basically non-canon meta-bullshit. Take it any way you like, take it with a hit of cannabis, line of cocaine. quart of Salvia, or whatever your narcotic of choice is.
>>
>>39384887
Might simply be a "at the beginning of the arachne/spiders"-thing.
>>
>>39384887
>Or maybe the Arachne race had grown to believe in a deity of some sort and wished her into existence.

>The Arachne race willed a blustering bumbling stuttering goddess into existence to represent them.
>>
>>39384928

You offer a little wave back, a piteously groaning moth under one arm.
"Hello, yes. Is it still today?"

He laughs once, winces, and smiles up at you from his spot on the ground.
"Only a few hours."
"It seemed like longer."
"You drank a lot."

"I am simply larger, yes? It just takes more."
"Suit yourself."
"Mm."

You let the silence grow for half a moment before you interrupt again.
"I do not suppose that hangover dust is a thing?"
"You had quite a bit of that already, I think."
"The opposite sort of dust, please."
"If I had that sort of thing, I'd never stop making it."

You sigh, resting your forehead against your free hand while your friends complain about the sun.
"I like the drink very much, yes. The hangover, not so much."
"Gods, I know that feeling."

You crack your neck, that much easier with Ezzy clinging behind your head rather than lying beneath your chin.
"Well, I cannot be long then. Too many things to do."
"Left everything till right before you leave, huh?"
"Sssh. I am a responsible adult, yes?"

He laughs again, and you all collectively flinch.

"Ah. In any case, We will be going shortly, yes? Do you know where the little one's mother is?"
"I am an adult!"

He looks at both of you with a lopsided smile, pointing further into the village.
"I'd imagine she's at the well, helping herself to some water. Take care of yourselves, alright?"
"I always do, yes."
"She takes care of other people and gets herself hurt, actually."
"Hush."

You wander away, looking something like a spider-ghost- Jin and Sheszka have combined forces to pull a blanket over your skull to hide beneath, leaving you looking like you're floating.

The show draws a few smiles from moths in the trees, people finally starting to wake and go about their business once more.
You did something of a number on the village.

Nin's mother is where she's supposed to be- Leaning against a stone well, dipping her cup into the bucket and throwing back cold water, or just dumping it on her head.
You wonder if that actually works.

"Good afternoon."
"Not bad at all. Maybe a bit too much drinking, but it's been a while since the village has gotten caught up in anything."
"I am glad to be of service, yes."
"Oh? And all that hiding behind your hands, too. The children will keep telling those stories, you know."

"I am trying very hard not to think about it."
"Mhm. And what can I do for you, Miss Spider?"
"Please tell me noone actually calls me that."
"I will tell you no lies, little one."

You grimace, sighing.
"We need to be on our way, yes."
"I see. Nin?"

You drop your friend to her feet, and she takes two steps forwards before wrapping her mother in a hug.
"I'll miss you, little one. Come visit again."
"I love you, mommy."
>>
>>39385704
They stay like that for a little while, then they pull apart, smiling.
"I'll bring more stories home, I promise."
"I'm sure everyone will like that very much."
"And I'll convince Lyra to be queen, too-"
"No you won't."

You're leaving the village a few minutes later, shielding your eyes with one hand, clattering into the forest beyond.
And hungry.

She is already in her first evolution, we don't know if it will actually get better, and it will take ungodly much time for her to evolve because she can't be risked to fight.

>>
Guy who knows a bit about herpetology here, it probably wouldn't be the most healthy thing ever, but there is no reason ezzy shouldn't be able to go with us. Especially since we're heading to whats effectively the tropics. Worst case scenario (IRL logic scenario) it takes a few years off her lifespan that she earns back via evolving to a longer lived form.
>>

Pretty far away, a few days.

>>

>>
>>39386122

There is also the fact that Lyra is pretty much a furnace, with a skullbutt shelter to guard against wind.

Ezzy will be fine.
>>
>>39386123
Pity I was hoping we could find out what they were
>>
>>39386122
>but there is no reason ezzy shouldn't be able to go with us
The fact that it might be detrimental to her health is definitly a reason.
Another would be that she could literally not do anything away from our neck for the entire journey.
Whats the point?
Ezzy isn't much of an adventurer, she just wanted to grow up. Now she has.
>>
>>39386032
>>39386063
What got her to evolve was sending her out to hunt.

So, get her to hunt regularly.

One more evolution will probably make her large enough to be a serious threat to most monsters and can help beat the shit out of things with us.
>>
>>39386122
>>39386205
all we're really doing is taking her to her family to say goodbye, and give her a chance to sign off for the winter if she wants.
>>39386235
and we should catch some more rabbits for her to hunt.
>>
>>39386235
>One more evolution will probably make her large enough to be a serious threat to most monsters
See no particular reason to assume thats the case, honestly.
And just from regular small game hunting it will take months for her to evolve, at best.
>>
>>39386205
Its detrimental for reptile metabolism and kidney/liver function, an issue that would in reality become slightly more magnetized over and over again if she kept this up. Since shes not really awake all the time anyway, and since we've confirmed evolving lengthens your lifespan, I'd say the reward outweighs the damage. Its basically no different than being bitten by a wolf so we can get another evolution.
>>
>>39386205

There is a difference between evolving and growing up.

Monsters are fully capable of sexual reproduction in the first stage of their evolution, assuming they have the bits necessary for it and have gone through puberty.

Besides, we aren't going to drop her off, we are going so she can say goodbye and it let's us ask around to see if anyone has any experience with being TINYSNEK IN WINTER WONDERLAND.
>>
>>39386260
>I'd say the reward outweighs the damage
What rewards?
No seriously, what does Ezzy gain by it?
She already evolved, she could lead a completly normal snake life now.
Its not like she is particularly enthusiastic about traveling like Nin is.
>>
>>39386278

Ezzy isn't enthusiastic about traveling because Ezzy IS FUCKING LAZY and a fucking Forest Monster NEET.
>>
>>39386278
If she evolved again she'd gain more years than she'd lose from possibly being active more than her body is supposed to be active. Also I suspect we'll get to her village and find everyone asleep anyway.
>>
>>39386258
So long as she gets proficient and fast, there is no reason not to rig up some slightly larger game to help speed it up. If we take her with us on the portable heater butt, then there is no downside to this.
>>
>>39386272
>There is a difference between evolving and growing up.
She associated evolving with growing up.
She didn't want to become the biggest and strongest.

>>39386298
Thats not completly true. She is a monster NEET, but most monster don't care much for traveling around. One thing isn't related to the other.
>>
>>39385995
Does that meen a bear, a deer and a beer?
>>
>>39386318
>then there is no downside to this
Except for lugging around someone who doesn't care for no particular reason except hoarding monsters on our shell?
>>
>>39386321

If Ezzy didn't want to go traveling and wanted to stay home, she has the option to stay at home, or she'll travel with us because we are probably her only friends even after we give her the option.
>>
>>39386365
I think Ezzy doesn't actually care, and is such a creature of habit that she will stick to our neck out of sheer convenience, regardless of if there is a poin or not.
She isn't going to leave her comfort zone on her own and start a life, she is going to want to hang around our neck doing nothing ofrever, of course.
Doesn't means he should.
>>
>>39386346
Yes, we are the pokemon master.

She fits around our neck, its about as much hassle as traveling with one. Considering compared to us she hardly eats much weight wise.
>>
>>39386400

Nin is actually probably a larger detriment to our adventuring, being the only Herbivore in the party and being delicate as all fuck, on top of being a valuable commodity due to Mothiness.

Ezzy is best SpySnek.
>>
>>39386149

Man and the only thing I can think of reading this is the Spidertrain...
>>
>>39386426
>Nin is actually probably a larger detriment to our adventuring
>A excellent healer is detrimental to traveling
Uh, no?
The tiny downside of her food isn't even nearly enough to register compared to the value of someone who can heal like she can. Especially since she can easily gather her food herself everywhere apparently.
>>
>>39386426
Nin is actually the most valuable traveling companion we have due to her healing dust.
The only one nearly as valuable is Jin, since she can fly, everyone else can't really do anything that important we can't do ourselves.
>>
>>39386429

World of Lewdness. Title kind of says it all.
>>
>>39386426
Anybody who thinks they can take a terrifying skull spider flanked by a wolf and a harpy for one moth would be too stupid to live. We'd do the world a favour.
>>
>>39386457
Yeah, unless we go running through the desert, feeding Nin is completly in the 'not a problem' zone.
>>
>>39386510

What if the people trying to take Nin to turn her into the Monsterbutt equivalent to a Meth lab are also Monsterbutts?
>>
>>39386529
Pretty sure nin would be fine with dried fruit rations.

Hell, she'd be fine with cactus pear and the like.
>>
>>39386510
Actually, being sphinx moth, Nin should be able to hover and fly like a hummingbird now. Which makes her far more capable of defneding herself with fencing.
We need to try that out.

>>
>>39386563

Aren't Forest Arachne small-time compared to other types of Arachne?

Like, Plains arachne are Hueg, Mountain Arachne are jumping spiders or ambush spiders, and Jungle / Desert Arachne are generally Scorpions.
>>
>>39386542
We are still a giant spider. We are at the top class monsterbutts even at base tier, but then we fucking went and got to the very rare tier three. Plus a fucking ton of blessings.

We can take them.
>>
>>39386598
>Aren't Forest Arachne small-time compared to other types of Arachne?
Actually not, mountain arachne are pretty tiny. And its said that desert arachne evolve pretty fast into scorpions, which implies they grow faster and are therefore likely weaker on baseline.
>>
>>39386598
>Aren't Forest Arachne small-time compared to other types of Arachne?
No. Mountain spiders just have a specific focus in their evolution. Plain arachnes just keep growing due to free space, but that likely takes them a long ass of a time to evolve due to placid environment.

So it's only desert spiders because that's basically Australia. They are all tier 3 because otherwise they /just fucking die/
>>
>>39386648
If anything Jungle Arachne would be the strongest (tarantulas). But would lack venom, which can be a rather fatal oversight vs others.
>>
>>39386598
Real life tells me the scariest spiders are the ones that livein forests. Doubly for jungles, nightmare tier spiders there...
>>

Jungle arachne are epxlicitly the ones with the worst toxines. According to the Species Info.

You blast through the forest, keeping a hard pace towards Esmerelda's home.
And any unfortunate morsels that happen to be between you and you destination.

Nin has switched to a seat on your shell, holding tight- Sheszka and Jin have both taken off, the harpy simply plucking anything small enough to swallow from wherever it tries to hide, while the wolf works in concert with you, herding animals into your path.

Which you murder, of course.

You reach the waterfall with a small pile of deer in hand, bears apparently now knowing to steer clear of you.
That's fine. You'll be leaving soon. There'll be new bears, bears that haven't heard of you-
And when you return...

They will have grown careless in your absence.

You laugh maniacally, stopping only to eat more as you run, and making a general mess of yourself.
You scoot to the top of the waterfall with ease, courtesy of your rock elevator, depositing all of you atop the structure, and heading deeper into the woods.

You're starting to slow, tiring as you push yourself further, churning up the riverside to your destination.

You let yourself slow to a walk as you start to recognize things, catching your breath, chest heaving as you move.
Ezzy is mostly away swaying slowly as she stands.

"Where are we?"
"Close to your home, yes?"
She yawns, her jaw opening far wider than it should, fangs snapping into place before she closes it again, blinking slowly.

"But why?"
"Because we have to find out if you need to sleep, or if you can come with us. Or do you want to go home?"
"I'm bigger."
"You are."
"And I hunted."
"You did."

"I dunno."

"Clear and concise, yes."
She hisses at you.

"They will all be awake, yes?"
"Yeah, it's still early."
"So you are just lazy, then."

You interrupt her before she can get started.

"Talk?"
"About what you want."

"I said I didn't know."
"Yes. So talk, and think about it. Not making decisions doesn't make decision making easier."

"Yes?"

"And humans seem nice. The half elf is funny, I liked talking with her. The moths drinks were good, even though they made me feel sick after."
She tugs absentmindedly at your hair.

"And growing was- growing was everything I thought it would be. I'm bigger. Bigger! And my scales are nice. And you- you're warm. I didn't have friends. I was small and stupid and weak, and I hid inside while everyone went out and grew up or lived or- or whatever."

She grows quiet again, playing with her dress, shifting.

"I- I think if I went home- It would be fine. I could do thingsss that I couldn't before. And Mom would be proud."

"I don't think I want to go home."

She stretches her arms across your face, hugging you back as best she can. Far more than she'd be able to manage previously, but still small.
