Holy Shit guys. 10 Threads.
_____________________________________________________

Your name is Alice Zief, Ars Magus Technician, and as you discovered last night, a clone.

Which explains why Kokonoe seemed to be rather cautious around you at first. But it also makes you think about why Jubei seemed to behave so oddly similar, and why his relationship with her seemed so strange...

Thoughts for another time, you think as you walk hand in hand with Tsubaki up the service stairs to Kagutsuchi port. Stepping out into the bright morning sunlight, you have to squint after spending so much time in the Kaka village. Tsubaki squirms a little screwing her eyes shut and pulling the hood of her coat down low to shield her face from what now feels like a very uncomfortable warmth.

It's hard to believe that it's already been a few months, but every once in a while something happens to remind you've spent quite some time together. Maybe now that the initial search is over you could bring her up with you when you have business in the higher levels of the city? A growing girl needs her sun, after all.

You have plenty of time to relax though, so for now you just guide her over to a bench shaded by a small tree and wait for her to recover. And while she's doing that, you can check your tickets again...

>Economy. Well, you suppose you can't complain about free tickets.
>First Class. Wow, these must've been expensive.
>Charter. What the hell, Kimihiro? How did you pay for this?

You don't recognize the company on the ticket, but then again you're not exactly well read on the field of who's who in aeronautics. You can't tell that much more, since there's not even a seat number. Just the airline name and a reservation number.

Still, nothing to get too worked up about. Maybe you get assigned a seat at check-in or something.

Once Tsubaki recovers, you continue on your way to the port.

Floating pillars of steel supported by massive ars wings, zeppelins, even a handful of what look to be jets... It seems like just walking by let's you lay eye on practically everything that's ever been flown into the sky. A few NOL troops in bright green flight suits amble past you, whispering all too loudly once they think they're out of earshot about the 'massive fuel cells on that one'.

Thankfully, Tsubaki is paying too much attention to an airship crawling it's way out of the harbor on five sets of fragile looking wings to have really heard them.

The crowds filter by you in small groups, occasionally accompanying a forklift or light cargo transport. Slowly, you thread your way along the wrought iron railing towards your gate. Eventually, you arrive.

It is sleek.

Unlike the larger and bulkier transports, this one is a narrow bullet support by a set of narrow wings. Also unlike the others, there's no fanciful carvings attached or elaborate reliefs worked in. It looks simple, efficient, and oddly predatory. A craft designed and built to move quickly and exactly as it's pilot demands.

You actually quite like it.

The small sign next to it confirms the company name.

"Greywing Charter Transport"

Hold on a minute 'Charter'? As in, the entire plane is booked for you? Isn't that hideously expensive? Kimihiro's never struck you as one hard up for cash, especially seeing as he pays you in copious amounts of it. But to have chartered a flight without even talking to you about it? Either he was supremely confident you'd accept or it just would never mattered to him in the first place.

As you draw closer, quietly wondering just how much this flight was worth, a figure emerges from the side of the airship and starts walking towards you.

It's probably a little racist of you. But the first thing that pops out is the most drastically different.

That tail.

That enormous, fluffy tail.

It's huge.

Literally the size of her torso and then some. It looks so big and pettable and soft you can't help but want to bury your face in it.

"Hey. I'm Shizune Nanaya." Comparatively, the voice attached to that tail is nowhere near as cute. In fact, it sounds a little gruff. "You're the client, right? 'Zief', party of two?" She asks, her voice low and deep.

"That's us." You respond, pulling along a slightly hesitant Tsubaki. It seems like Shizune is making her a little nervous for some reason.

"Well come on then, I don't have all day." And with that, she turns, massively amazing tail twitching, and walks back into the aircraft. You're beginning to have an inkling of just how Kimihiro was able to get these tickets, if this is her idea of customer service.

Inside the airship is plainly furnished, but surprisingly spacious. There's four air couches in the main cabin, two facing forward and two facing back. The carpets are a plain beige, while the couches are a deep grey. A steel hatch to the cockpit hang open as Shizune performs an impromptu briefing on in-flight safety without actually engaging her thoughts on it beyond making sure the correct words come out of her mouth. She reads verbatim from rather discreet display, which is why it probably also comes off as a lot more polite than she did outside the plane.

Once that's done, she practically slams the cockpit door shut and flips on the 'Seatbelt' light. You end up having to scramble to buckle Tsubaki in as the airship rumbles to life, and only just barely get yourself secured before being slammed into the seat from the force of the liftoff.

A few minutes later, and the pressure lessens.

Why? It's pretty safe to say that Remix Heart is canon, especially with Mai and Cajun making an actual appearance in CP Extend...
Hell, I bet a playable Mai in the next game is much more likely than Jubei for example, because clearly another pair of tits in the roster is waaay more important.
Alice is still best girl
>>
>>39396504

Well, overt rudeness of the pilot aside, your first priority is Tsubaki.

Who was staring wide-eyed out the window as the hierarchical city pulls away, shrinking rapidly into an almost toy-like model. If an impossibly detailed one. You've never seen Kagutsuchi from this angle before, or been in airship before either, but seeing the wonder in Tsubaki's eyes as the arcology dropped away was something beautiful in and of itself.

But she wasn't from Kagutsuchi, was she? You couldn't remember the exact city, but didn't the Yayoi come from a different one? This couldn't have been the first time she rode on an airship.

"It's not." She admits when you ask her. "But we had an internal cabin, without any windows. Dampening ars made it impossible to feel anything either." Leaning closer to the window, she gazed down at Kagutsuchi, growing tinier and tinier. "It was more like an elevator ride than flying."

You just smile, taking simple joy in her wonder.

Soon enough though, Kagutsuchi disappears into the clouds leaving nothing to look at but an endless sea of white.

>>
>>39396811

There's already an Extend? Damn, these guys work fast. Also, I'll admit to Remix Heart being canon thanks to CP vanilla. Mai is mentioned outright (and boy was that a surprise).

But seriously? They both show up? Not just their names, but they get sprites and everything? Dang, now I'm gonna have to read Remix Heart all the way through and take it seriously.

But man, I'm glad people still like Alice. Care to expand on why?

"So what does Kimihiro have over you?"
>>
>>39396987

As amazing as the bright sun is, the lack of anything to do in it promptly made Tsubaki fall asleep. Maybe she didn't sleep too well last night? She seemed fine at breakfast, but you suppose growing girls need their rest.

That aside, adorable as Tsubaki's sleeping face is... You're a little bored.

You toy a little with Al-Azif, mostly a functionality check, before discovering that the plane you're in has an internal com system. It's basic, pretty much just audio and no real way to secure anything. Before you know it, you've patched into it and have the immediate privilege of catching the faint music from the radio station that Shizune is listening to.

It's surprisingly upbeat.

And she's singing along.

It's kind of cute, hearing her do a little karaoke to a song about first time love.

But, you're bored. And feeling that getting a little payback for her curtness would be an amusing way to pass some time.

"So, what does Kimihiro have over you?"

Immediately, the music stops and Shizune starts using some incredibly unladylike language. It takes her a brief moment to collect herself.

"... That's none of your business." She finally growls out. "Now, unless you feel like sharing why an A-Grade engineer like yourself is gonna work for peanuts instead of fucking off to work for the 'real' Shinatsu, why don't you just close this channel and leave me alone."

>Response?

Don't have any ideas so let's go with this I guess.

>>39397029
Not sure about the details but yeah, picrelated.

What's not to like? She's well developed, has a nice, somewhat mature personality and cares a lot about Tsubaki - which alone is more than enough reason to like her.
Honestly though, I suppose it's your writing first and foremost that makes Alice likeable.

You chuckle quietly, relaxing a bit into your seat. But your mind stays active, and you quietly wonder just what the situation is like in Shinatsu that you're already encountering this much animosity.

"I don't need more than peanuts to take care of my daughter." A completely true fact. That aside, you have quite a pretty penny saved up from working for Kimihiro already. Finances aren't a concern. "Plus, this job will probably involve me getting to punch people in the face. That's a perk right there." Your calm smile... stays completely calm and relaxed. But you can't help but feel a little excited. You're not (very) bloodthirsty or anything, but the idea of fighting for a good cause is exciting.

Somehow though, Shizune doesn't seem reassured by you.

"... What kind of hole did that old creep dig you up out of?" She whispers to herself, probably thinking it's too quiet for you to hear. Unfortunately, you have ultimate control over the internal coms of the plane, so something as simple as microphone sensitivity is easy to take advantage of.

Which is when you notice something else...

The radar is blank.

No, more than that... careful examination reveals that it's broken. A very specific kind of sabotage. It's designed to turn on and look like it's functioning, but to have no feedback at all.

"Shizune the radar is..." Instantly, you hear a new chain of curses and a quiet thud of fist on thick plastic.

"Fuck, you're right! How did I miss that? I caught a pirate group on it last night, so how did-?" The thought is cut short by another chain of unprintable words. Apparently, Shizune has realized when the airship was sabotaged.

You allow yourself to entertain the notion that, maybe, nothing will happen. Perhaps this single, highly technical bit of sabotage wasn't anything more than a sort of prank or way to discredit the beastkin. You decide to allow yourself this thought for a whole ten seconds.

"Arrr, this is Captain Crimson, o' the Pirate Fleet the 'Crimson Cutters'! You'll be wantin' ter cut yer engines and surrender now, lasses!" Broadcasts a horrible accent on an open channel.

That wasn't even eight seconds!

In the cockpit, you can hear Shizune slamming switches and adjusting the course. She's silent and the cursing has stopped. The plane shifts, gently diving for a lower altitude as it begins to take on more speed.

"Listen." She says, voice quiet and very calm. "I have GPS guidance, so we are still on track. I would very much appreciate it, if you were to stay calm, and consider examining the radar." A faint click, and an accompanying thud in the door. "If you would please proceed to the cockpit, I have unlocked the door."

Carefully, thanks to the plane's angle making falling seem that much more uncomfortable, you head up to cockpit. Walking feels very odd, but you stay upright without any real issues. Opening the heavy steel hatch is a bit more of trick, but again, no issues.

The cockpit itself is clean, neat, and very much not intended to have one person under the console while the other is trying to fly. Incidentally, you wouldn't have taken Shizune for that kind of girl, but it seems there's no predicting choice in underwear.

As for the radar itself...

It's less of your 'traditional' break, where something is smashed or worn down, but the kind of break that's very obviously the result of a surgical mind with a pair of wire cutters.

The connection between the receiver and the monitor is broken. It's the kind of fix that would be trivial with a length of spare wire. But you don't exactly carry those around with you. However, you are excellent at improvisation. A minor wireless uplink to Al-Azif, and some clever reprogramming, and you have a conjured low quality screen of the surroundings.

... That's a lot of green blips.

Shizune sees them, and very carefully doesn't react, beyond a lazy blink.

"That's an awful lot of pirates. Seems someone doesn't want this run made." She replies, somehow even calmer than before.

For some reason, you're not too worried either.

>Stealth approach. Once you get close below the seithr line, in a tiny ship like this you'll be practically undetectable. Although, this far out from society you run the risk of encountering beasts...
>Fly fast. Fly hard. This thing has got to have some serious legs, if it was hauling you all the way to Shinatsu.

You consider something for a moment.

There are several things you could do here. This airship has some powerful engines, to the point that you could probably outrun all the ships the pirates could throw at you. You could dive for the seithr line, hiding in the mists and trusting in Shizune's skill and luck to carry the day.

You cast magnetic adhesion on your boots and tell Shizune to slow down.

"You know very well what will happen if they catch us." She responds, face angling to look at yours through the corner of her eye. You just smile reassuringly and pat her on the shoulder.

"Slow down. Unlock the side doors. I'll be out on the wing." Shizune's eyes widen, but she swallows and you can already feel the craft slowing down. You turn, carefully threading your way out of the cockpit to check on Tsubaki. She's blinking the sleep out of her eyes, seems to have been woken up by the loud hissing of the door opening out onto the wing.

A faint breeze in the cockpit is the only hint of the mild depressurization, courtesy of the strong ars shield over the door keeping the air inside the cabin relatively warm and safe.

"I have to go take care of some business quick." You give her a little hug, simultaneously double checking her seatbelt. "Stay right here for now, OK?" Tsubaki doesn't seem to be fully awake yet, but nods anyway. You kiss her on both cheeks, and walk straight out the door onto the wing.

"Range and number of targets?" You ask, still hooked into the plan via your ars.

"Four miles out, 26 bogies, at least three types. We're looking at a large, mixed engagement. They're coming at us from the south-south west, altitude twenty thousand feet." Shizune responds mechanically. You extend a hand, taking some of the seither you started gathering in the cockpit and shaping it into a wide circle. An image appears, a large grey airship, sleek like yours is, but also fattened by weapons blisters. Adjusting the focus, you can see some tinier parasite fighters flying next to it, and at least two others of the first type. They're marked with a bright red skull logo, which you suppose fits for this pirate group.

But behind all of them is something quite enormous.

It's less of a ship and more of a small floating island that's made of steel. How did a group of pirates get their hands on something like that? You dismiss the thought for now as irrelevant.

Instead, you begin charging your first shot.

This may take a few minutes, since you're focusing so very hard on combining raw power with long ranged accuracy, but maybe you could see about diffusing the situation before it began?

Leading the formation, one of the larger ships as a particularly big skull on it. In general, the weapons blisters look newer, and unless you miss your guess there's a few torpedo launchers on it.

You close together your fingers, leaving a single one extended.

Pointing.

New runes spin into place, forming a large, complex array. You draw seithr from the air at incredible rates, the speed and rapid descent bringing more and more to you while the circle continues to grow more and more complex.

You're reminded of something.

It's on the tip of your tongue, but you can't quite tease it out. You don't think you've concentrated this much power in the time you've been in Kagutsuchi. So it can't have been then. But where would you have drawn so much seithr together? And why?

It's annoying. It's like your amnesia is taunting you, showing you that the hole that is your past has sides, dimensions. It has secrets, but they aren't quite impossible. Just nearly.

You adjust the long-range cohesion of the beam, widening the core firing solution until the firing point is far enough away from your airship that it won't be damaged.

A tinier circle forms in front of you, no less complicated then it's gigantic partner.
>>
>>39399345

Words come to your lips, unbidden.

"Firing solution achieved." They feel almost... hot. Your blood is pounding in your ears. "Safety restrictions, released to the first degree." Inside you, it feels like something is unlocking. Like an old muscle, stretching after months of disuse. "Starbuster... FIRE!" The last word is shouted, and lost in the rushing wind, but it makes you feel alive in an almost painful way.

The small circle shoots first, emitting an almost anti-climactic narrow beam into the larger one. For another all too brief second, nothing happens.

Then a bright blue beam large enough to fly the ship through roars across the open sky, tearing it's way through the clouds.

You catch a quiet "Oh shi-" before the radio frequency is filled with madness as people try to figure out what is going on. Your Starbuster hits a fraction of a second later, the diffusion you set up allowing the pirate ship to survive.

Barely.

Your beam entirely swallowed the thing, burning away all the paint and cooking off more than half of it's weapons. Smoke pours from the engines, and the faint flicker of flame is visible near some of them.

You smile, and tap back onto the open frequency.

"Next time, I will tighten the cohesion. Instead of just getting tossed around, the beam will go through you." You say to them, as though you were talking about the weather. "Now, why don't you be on you way somewhere else, hmm?"

As one the entire pirate fleet turns around.

You just let out a long breath and walk back into the cabin of the plane, closing the door behind you.

Your name is Shizune Nanaya. Occupation, ace pilot. Current status?

Confused as all hell, in addition to slightly terrified.

You've known that creepy bastard Kimihiro ever since you were a kid and your mom took you to see him, as is 'tradition' in your family. He looked creepy then, with his weird eyes, way too pale skin, and annoying smirks.

He hasn't stopped being creepy over the last two decades.

If anything, he's gotten creepier.

At least part of that is the fact that he doesn't seem to actually age, but after awhile that stops bothering you. It's the bit that where he acts like he knows everything, and somehow it doesn't feel like an act at all. His eyes narrow, and he puffs some more on that old pipe and you just feel like a weird bug someone's staring at.

Then he'll laugh about something stupid, and ask how the last trip went and it'll somehow feel even creepier.

And sometimes he asks you to do things. Run a person here, fly a package there. Most of the time, they're normal. But sometimes...

This time, he asked you to fly this lady and her daughter to Shinatsu to work as an engineer on the mine for the people of the land.

You've flown a few of them there before, and seen the same story unfold more times then you're comfortable with. Money, threats, violence. The people living in those silver towers want the mine, and even though your people can stop them from outright taking over, those damn people in those towers can stop you from ever having a taste of the potential wealth that could do so much for the your family and all the other clans forced out onto the steppes.

So what if you've been a bit prickly? If she couldn't hack a little bit of your lip, then she'd never manage to stay through what some of the pissier clans would say about her.

Except...

She smiled and laughed.

And now you've just watched her force a pirate fleet to turn tail and run with a single shot. Admittedly a fuck-off huge one fired from your wing. But she fired at a target FOUR miles and change away, and hit it! With a shot that looks more like something you'd see come from a battleship then a person!

And now, she's just stepped back into the plane after threatening the pirates with another scarier attack, like nothing ever happened. She's just checking in on her daughter, making sure she wasn't too cold due to the cold air coming in from the open door.

You're reminded of some of the other runs you've done for Kimihiro. The weirder ones that you can't talk about without seeming like an absolute lunatic. The vampire girl living in that freaky castle, that weird old white armor under the full moon...

You shiver.

But somehow, you smile a little.

This woman is terrifying, absolutely terrifying. But, even with your radar cut and surrounded by pirates, she managed to get you out of there. Alive, and in one piece with your Greytail.

Maybe... things will go better, this time.

Tsubaki bit coming up next...

You are Tsubaki Zief.

And you are beginning to wonder if your mom is superhero.

You mean, she was always smart, pretty, and really strong, but... There's a difference between seeing her beat up some people who were going to kidnap, and seeing her her shoot a Love Spark Cannon at some pirates.

You've seen it before in comic books that the Kaka showed you, but even there it seemed a little ridiculous. It was the top of the line attack that only the heroine could use, and even then only thanks to years of practice and a genuine magical artifact.

And your mom just cracked one off like it was nothing.

You can't help but wonder who she is, late at night sometimes. You can tell it bugs her, and you try your best to make sure she doesn't think about it too much, but every once in awhile, she'll get that bitter look again. You can tell she doesn't like it.

You don't like it either.

But she's still your mom, even if it's only by adoption. She's braided your hair, taught you about ars magus, and helped you build an armagus of your very own, even.

And now, she's scared off a whole bunch of pirate ships with a Super-Attack.

You'd be a little scared, but the first thing she did when she came back was check on you. The cabin was getting cold, and she didn't want you to start freezing up. A few whispered words, and she has Al-Azif conjuring a glowing ball of heat to warm you while she goes through the airship for some blankets.

She feels your forehead with a cool hand, worried expression on her face, and you relax back into the couch.

Your mom worries you every once in awhile, but it's really nice to know that she'll always be your mother.

Aaaand, that's it ladies and gentlemen!

I think that this is a good breaking off point. We shot at some pirates, you got a taste of how utterly broken Alice can be when she feels like it, I got the chance to introduce one of Makoto's cousins, and foreshadow a little about Kimihiro!

As usual, Q&A is open, and I'm ready to listen to comments, complaints, or suggestions you might have.

Even if it took a long while, you managed to end the episode. Good job.

Does this particular incarnation of Kimihiro have access to dimensional hijinks?
And did he also happen to inherit the shop he's in now from a certain other "magic" user?
"Magic", as in real magic like what Nine and Celica use, not Ars... though that might not be too much of a difference anyway.

Thank you for the thread, Shaderic!
I'm kinda sad the Pirate Attack ended so quickly, but I can understand their reaction when faced with that much firepower.

Also, I actually liked Shizune, especially with the implications she met Rachel and Hakumen. And to be honest, I'm curious about how exactly she met someone that should still be trapped inside the Boundary, and even MORE curious about how Kimihiro knew how to reach him and what he sent to be delivered there.

This is a certain Kimihiro Watanuki, yes.

The shop was also inherited, as you say. But he views it as a temporary sort of deal. He believes the owner will be back, eventually.

As for the question of magic... This is a Kimihiro Watanuki a few centuries post Yuuko's training. What do you think?

The pirates were always going to be basically chump-change in the air, I'm afraid. Side-effect of Alice being able to outperform most anti-ship cannons.

As for how Kimihiro knew how to reach them? It's one of the many skill he picked from his teacher.

Not that this made it easy for Shizune. 'Fly upside down into this cave at midnight when the full moon has reached it's peak' isn't exactly the kind of directions one wants to follow as a transporter.

Well she better come back someday. Yuuko was the only reason I read that manga, and she seemed to be the only thing preventing the Yaoi vibes from saturating the entire series.

>'Fly upside down into this cave at midnight when the full moon has reached it's peak' isn't exactly the kind of directions one wants to follow as a transporter.

I wonder how much of those instructions are actually needed to reach the destination and how much of them are just Kimihiro messing woth the poor Beastkin.

I'm guessing "just one" for the former and "almost all of them" for the latter. Trolling is an ageless art.

Ain't that the truth.

Let's face it, Yuuko was the reason people read xxxholic.

>I wonder how much of those instructions are actually needed to reach the destination and how much of them are just Kimihiro messing with the poor Beastkin.

Now, why would you ever think that? Those were all completely necessary steps!

OK, maybe /how/ necessary they are is a little exaggerated, but still.
