It only takes you a second.

As the water keeps rushing inside the cargo hold, you grapple with the skeletons and shove them aside, clearing your way to the two living, flesh-and-blood crew members in charge of them.

The two give off startled cries and pull back, caught by surprise as you suddenly emerge from the hole in the hull they were sent to patch like some kind of water monster. One reflexively throws against you whatever he was holding in hand: a wooden box full of nails, a saw and a large wooden mallet, all of which just bounce off you harmlessly.

"HELP!" The other manages to scream, before you reach him and smack him upside the head, sending him down for the count.

The other tries to make a run for the stairs leading up to the main deck, but fear, confusion, and the rising level of water betray his legs, and he trips and falls down on the wet floor of the ship's hold. He turns around and tries to back away from you, terrified.

Meanwhile, behind you, the skeletons are quietly picking back up their tools and getting back to their original order, repairing the ship's hull.

"D-don't..." the seaman in the black uniform mumbles, trying to pick himself back up.

>Make him beg for his life.

Karas is more of a morally unambiguous pulp hero, I think. We don't need information, we need to pull off an elaborate improvised scheme to delay the fleet.
>>
>>39398845
I mean Karas isn't the type to grill the whole battle plan and we won't be getting it out of a random seamen, but we can totally ask where they keep the cool shit so we can steal that.
>>
You don't have time to waste.

These ships normally carry just a small crew of mortals and ghosts, plus at least one or two nemessaries, and most of the menial work is done by skeletons or zombies or other forms of mindless undead. That's why they only sent two crewmen to take care of this leak.

But as soon as they realize something is wrong, they'll come against you in force.

You grab the cowering seaman by the collar and lift him up. "Alright, start talking." You order him.

"W-w-what...?"

...Right. What should you ask...

"Who's in charge here?"

"C-captain Akkasel."

"Never heard of him. Exalted?"

"N-no..."

"The Warstrider?"

"P-prow bay... other side of the boat."

"Captain of the fleet?" You narrow your eyes.

"H-he's going to kill me..." He whimpers.

"Isn't that something you'd look forward to in Skullstone?" You reply, letting his ass hit the deck. "It's Moray, isn't it. It's got to be him. This whole operation has his whole name on it. The perfect opportunity for the Prince to test his loyalty."

He nods.

Moray Darktide. And if this is really a test of his loyalty as well as an attack against Tianna, this means that he's not going to be the only Exalted in the fleet.

This will get ugly fast.

"Alright, thank you." You say, karate-chopping him in the skull. He falls in the water next to his friend, as the skeletons finish sealing up the hole in the hull and stand by for further orders, without realizing that their minders are out cold.

>Try giving an order to the skeletons (what?)

"Hey, you." You point a finger at the skeletons.

One of them gives you a funny look.

You're not sure how it manages to, given the lack of facial expression and all, but it definitely feels like that.

"Tear that hole back open."

Nope, still staring. You don't have authorization of something, you guess.

Oh, well, whatever. You kick the cargo hold's metal door open, causing the water to trickle into the corridor, and try and make your way prow-wards.

After just a few seconds, a group of three more mortal seamen in black uniforms, followed by a bluish-greenish ghostly figure wearing a similar but fancier dress, a head taller than all of them, show up from a side door. They have sabers hanging from their belts, but don't seem alarmed yet.

The first one in line glances at you. "So, did you guys figure out what we hit? We're late and the admiral will be mad if-"

He does a double-take, as the rest of the group falls deathly silent, no pun intended, staring at you.

"Sup." You reply, drawing Giant Boxcutter from Elsewhere and slamming into their group before they have the time to react.

[Phys + Dawn = 9 8 6 1 10 9 5 4 7 10 10 5 3 1 = 10 succ.]

You whack the man in the lead with the flat of the blade, and launch him away and right into the nearest bulkhead, that he hits with a dull metallic noise.

The others draw their short sabers, and one attempts a stab at you, amid shouts and screams, as the third mortal runs away, heading for the stairs going up, bolting the moment the ghost tells him "SOUND THE ALARM!"

You deftly twist aside the blade with a slap of your armored gauntlet, then try and bring Giant Boxcutter to bear, but realize all too soon that a grand daiklave is way too unwieldy in these close quarters as you rip a large gash in the metal bulkheads of the ship and nearly get it stuck there.

Letting it drop back into Elsewhere, you kick the fallen seaman's cutlass up and snatch it from the air just in time to parry the ghost's assault, a powerful downwards swing aiming for your head.

You knock the blade aside, into the torn metal bulkhead, and there it snaps in half. Before the spinning piece of metal can fall back down, you butterfly-kick it into the runner's back of the right leg, where it punches cleanly through, bringing him down before he can give the alarm.

You're left with one (utterly terrified by this point) mortal and the ghost in front of you. "Wh- who the hell are you? Where do you come from? What do you want?!" The latter asks you, clearly about to panic.

Some ideas pass through your head, but you can't decide on one answer to give. So, you just act.

Right after parrying a second blow, you drop in a low kick that hooks the ghost's legs and sends him down head-first, followed immediately by a stomp on his chest.

The last man backpedals, terrified, raising both arms. "I give up! I give up!" He begs, dropping his sword to the ground. You knock him out with one punch to the stomach and let him crumple down, then you move on to the prow bay unimpeded. The few skeletons walking around the ship on menial chores don't trouble you, as the alarm hasn't been raised yet.

The prow bay is a large cargo area. several skeletons stand by, as well as half a dozen mortals taking care of the equipment. Pipes and gauges and assorted machinery run along the walls and bulkheads, but what draws your attention more than anything else is the impossibly large suit of armor sitting in the center of the bay, facing the very prow of the ship... which looks like it can be opened with some command, probably for storming beaches.

Of course, as soon as you show up, everyone turns around, surprised. Well, except for the skeletons, who keep minding their own business.

I'm aware of that. This is far more effective.

>B) you forget that combat oriented people and undying loyalty are primier motives for enlightenment.
You don't get much more undyingly loyal than beloved family, and by all indications we come from a hyper-competent family who would only get more competent when exposed to Tiger Warrior Training. Loyalty is much more important than current competence, since our charms bring all mortals up above whatever they would have had already anyway.

>>39400284
>Our sister? maybe, our parents? no chance.
Why would we not want to have our royal family prominently involved in our royal affairs? They're already as loyal as we could ever expect anyone to be, can be trained up to higher base competence if they aren't already as competent as I expect they are, and - again - it doesn't get more loyal than family.

They're the ideal candidates. Short of utterly overwhelming religious worship, like Pyre, or what is effectively a life debt, like Regis, there are no better choices.

Because it's more than royal affairs, as far as we know, they don't care about more than Gem and we have much bigger plans than that, loyalty is the biggest factor in deciding whether or not to Kiss someone, but it's not the only one, availability is one too, if they can't be with us all the time outside of Gem then we don't need them Kissed, we can give them alternate means of power, remember being Kissed isn't the only way to awaken someone's essence.

Even ignoring that, we don't have enough slots for all of our family assuming everyone is alive, someone is getting left out no matter what.

"Why are you all wet?"

"...I was helping, what do you think?" You brush him off, striding across the room, closer to the warstrider.

"...Where's your uniform, soldier?" Another of them asks. He's dressed in a black form-fitting suit, different from the others. "What's with that suit of armor?"

"It's a... a responsic feedbacker armorvest suit for interfaciating with the warstrider. I'm the new pilot."

"I'm actually here to run a test for the... armorvest I'm wearing, to see how it works with the Warstrider. Before we make the landing." You announce to the room.

"...Eh? Really?" "It's not 100% ready yet." "You can't just spring that on us!"

[Soc + Zen = 6 8 1 3 5 8 = 2 successes]

"It's also a test of your readiness!" You reply.

The technicians look at each other.

"Well..." "We can do that, just don't connect the arm and leg motion belts once inside. There's not enough space for moving right now." "Also it might be a bit slow to respond, we're still fixing the inertial coil. Don't blame that on us."

"Sure, sure. It's just a test. I'm certainly not going to rampage throughout the ship." You lie.

One of them pulls a ladder and places it to help you climb up to the warstrider's waist, where... you suppose, the cockpit lies. You reach it as the rest of the crew begins to detach pipes and wires and tubes and run what you suppose are the final pre-activation checks on the machine.

"You're cleared for the cockpit, sir."

And there you are, staring at a massive plate of black-painted steel, looking for a latch or lever of button that will open it and let you enter the cockpit, while at the same time not looking like you don't have the slightest idea on how the heck a warstrider actually works.

"Is there a problem, sir?" Someone asks from below you.

You resist your instinct of snapping angrily at him. "Er, I was told that there were modifications for optimal ...egression and pilot intubation since my last training session."

The technician's eyes glaze over.

"Care to open for me?" You smile winningly.

[Soc + Zen = 9 2 7 5 5 9 = 3 successes]

"It's, uh, it didn't change... maybe you were briefed on another model? The latch is on the lower right corner, just below the bolt."

"Oh." You find a button and, pressing it, you feel the plating covering the cockpit coming loose, and you begin to lift it. "Right, I was... expecting to find it on the other side."

"We're going to lower the chain to help you lift the- or, eh, ahaha, I guess you can do that bare-handed." One of them giggles nervously as you finish lifting the armored plate and slip inside. The passage closes behind you.

Bluish lights flicker on as you find yourself in the belly of the beast. Pipes, tubes, gears and machinery everywhere, giving you really the impression of being inside a hollow, mechanized statue. It's a lot messier than you imagined, and, after a few painful tugs, you have to gather your hair and wrap it around your neck like some sort of scarf to keep it from getting tangled in something.

That doesn't help with the stifling temperature inside. There's no seat, just a harness clearly designed for a man's arms, legs and head, and... tailored for someone shorter than you, you quickly realize, as the point where the harness' knees and elbows bend doesn't quite line up with your own. To say nothing of the head.

In front of your eyes, or rather, uncomfortably below them, a glass plate reflects the scene in front of the Warstrider's eyes. It's a small and clumsy window on the outside world.

You struggle and grapple with the harness's adjustment. despite the little light, you manage to find a little wheel dial on the metal frame, and begin trying to adjust it.

Bit by bit, you feel the "spine" of the frame getting longer, finally raising the headstrap and the faceplate up into a more reasonable position.

Two little adjustable bolts let you pull on the arms and get the gloves you're supposed to fit your hands into where they should be, and a similar system works for the legs and feet. You laboriously manage to work the moving parts until the harness fits on you more or less correctly.

Once you've done that, you hear the clanking noise of the cockpit opening, and, as it's slowly lifted by the jangling noise of a chain pulling on it, the face of one of the engineers pops up, a 30something guy in the usual black uniform, with short black hair and a hawkish nose. "I'll help you with the belts." He offers, beginning to close and tighten the belts you can't reach on your own, like those around the arms.

You feel incredibly defenseless for a moment, essentially being tied to a (not very) flexible metal frame. You're... fairly confident you can burst out of it in case of an emergency, but not 100% sure.

...And then, something unexpected happens.

The engineer leans closer to you and whispers: "That's a good mess you did here. Who are you really and who do you work for?"

"What the heck-" The man tried to turn around, but he's half-wedged into the cockpit and can't move freely.

"Who's that?!" You can't see anything, in turn, as he's right in the middle and when the cockpit is open the faceplate lifts out of sight.

"That man is a spy!" Oh, it's the pilot's voice. "Engineer! Pull him out of there at once!"

Instead the engineer kicks the ladder down, blindly, and you hear some panicked screams from down below as it lands heavily and noisily. "Damn it. Two weeks of infiltration ruined by a darn newbie." The man growls, squirming in the opening. You can't tell if he's tryng to get out or in.

"Who's the newbie?!" You reply.

"GET THE WARSTRIDER STARTED!"

"SHOOT THEM! CALL THE MARINES!" Again him. and now you also hear armored footsteps and the sound of weapons, among them bow strings being pulled and arrows clanking together in the quiver.

Oh for sure, he's more than he says, in which case a Sidereal under a Resplendent Destiny makes a lot of sense. On the Lunar side he could be someone that ate the actual engineer and is smart enough to pull of the know-how, or a Night/Day caste that took him out and was also smart enough.

I'm not an expert at playing Sid, but perhaps this one has some business with Karas? That'd be the only reason to break cover, IMO.

IMO I think the sailor we lost at sea was in fact a Sid, and he just blew his resplendent destiny during the battle to escape and do more business.

Of course, this is all speculation, but it's interesting all the same.

There's no Terrestrial aspect which would be a hyperadept spy, would there? I'd just see them as either Lost Eggs like part of Amata's brood, or else Peleps Dickass kill-the-heretic types.

"Get in!" You pull your arms against the frame to grab his hands. You feel the belts and chains and gears inside the machine trying to follow your movement and transmit them to the warstrider, but, of course, right now, it doesn't move one inch.

"I'm trying-" You hear the noise of a few arrows being loosed and cutting through the air and the engineer screams in response.

The chaos in the middle of everything is indescribable. You ask him "they got you?", but between his screams, the screams from outside, the noise echoing inside the warstrider and everything else, you can't even hear yourself talking.

In all that noise, you hear the man cursing loudly, stare back at you with a frustrated face just as you feel the Warstrider vibrating as the engineers are beginning to climb onto the frame to reach you both, and then...

(cont.)
>>
...he SHIFTS, like someone wearing someone else's skin suddenly discarding it, and in a blur of colors and a telling flash of silver light, he becomes something much smaller and falls down, under your feet, in a small maintenance space giving access to the machinery in the warstrider's hips.

You thought you saw several arrows sticking out of his legs and backside, but it was just a glimpse.

"A LUNAR?!" You ask, startled, and then suddenly panic when you see, through the now-open cockpit, a squad of ten ghost marines in heavy combat armor pointing firewands straight at you, clearly intending to fry you inside the armor. Other soldiers and seamen are all around, wielding bows.

"GET THIS BLOODY BAG OF RUBBISH STARTED YOU WANKER!" Is his reply, echoing from the bottom of the maintenance shaft.

The door slams down under its own weight, finally. just in time to save you from being carbonized by the combined heat blast. But you still feel the flames washing over the warstrider's hull, until the armor plate in front of you begins to glow a dull cherry red. The temperature jumps by ten degrees all of sudden, and it was already amazingly hot before, and you've got no time to think, much less the concentration to do so.

I'm envisioning a middle-aged Mentor guy, a blue collared ex-YOB who's seen enough to get tired of this shit and won't take crap from anyone.

"Move yer chocolate arse ya overgrown lantern! We've got a damned legion training flamelances at our arses! Move it, berk!"
>>
"I'M TRYING!" You complain back at the echoing voice from below you, panicking.

"TRY FASTER!"

You idly stare at a few strands of your hair touching the outer armor and catching fire, then you shift your gaze to the faceplate. You're just in time to see two soldiers rolling a barrel of firedust out of your field of view, but definitely in your direction.

"HOW THE HECK DOES THIS THING WORK!?" You scream, desperately pulling on the belts and springs fastening you to the machinery inside the warstrider.

"YOU NEED TO ATTUNE TO IT! SHUT UP AND CONCENTRATE!"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN ATTUNE?!" You scream back, feeling like you're about to faint.

"EVER ATTUNED A DAIKLAVE OR SOMETHING? IT'S LIKE THAT! NOW FUCKING DO IT!"

[Mental + Twilight = 10 1 1 = 2 successes]

You try your best to shut out the noise, the heat and the panic, close your eyes, and focus on your Essence.

...It's way different from attuning to something you can just keep in hand, but you think you understand what he means. You feel like... something, resonating with your Essence as you let it pour through the machinery.

It leaves a distasteful feeling in you, like a sour taste of iron and blood lingering in your mouth, but you find the right way, and, with a slow breath, rouse the warstrider from its sleep.

(cont.)
>>
The faceplate suddenly springs to life, it's light becoming much brighter. Now it really feels like your own eyes and limbs. Outside, you can hear panicked screams as the soldiers and seamen outside suddenly realize the warstrider has activated.

You turn your head around. The faceplate follows you, transmitting to your eyes what lies in front of the massive automaton's head, a meter above you. You flex your fingers, feeling the pulleys and wires transmit that motion to the warstrider's limbs. Even your perception of noises changes, as the shouts and orders and sounds of weapons outside are transmitted to you with a dull metallic echo from a system of pipes concealed within the war machine's massive structure.

"We can't let it escape the ship!" You see a ghost in an officer's uniform scream. "Stop it!"

[LORD OF THE BATTLEFIELD] [Commit 3/5]

"You're welcome to try." You reply, your words amplified by a megaphone system and relayed outside via the warstrider's pneumatic voicebox. Your golden Anima encompasses the entire machine, and you can feel it ooze out of the armor as your own castemark glows on the machine's forehead.

Finally able to move, it takes you a moment to find your bearings - even attuned, your sight is limited, much like if you were wearing a full helm. It's still hot and noisy and troublesome to move, and your senses are all out of whack, especially balance.

You try and put one leg in front of the other, and you feel a wobble as the ship shakes under you and you struggle to stand upright.

Feeling the pinging noise of arrows bouncing off you, and trying to ignore it best you can, you place one hand on the prow, where the moving parts of the ship's structure meet and where the bay would normally open, finding exactly the distance - your depth perception is confused too.

Then, you put the other hand on the other side of the gap, and start pulling apart. You feel the metal, both of the warstrider and of the ship, buckling under the strain, as you desperately pull against the springs and pulleys of the machine. Bit by bit, you begin to open up the gap, and water shoots inside, washing over you.

A head pops up from she maintenance shaft below you, followed by torso and shoulders. He looks very angry.

The very light silver aura around him suggest he's probably a Lunar, but, if that's it, it's not what you were expecting, especially because he seems very small.

"...Aren't you a pipsqueak." You comment.

"Sod off." He replies, viciously. "I'm not gonna get caught in something, that's good enough for me." He groans. "Fucked up all the work of infiltrating the bloody joint."

"Well EXCUSE ME but these ships were coming to attack my new home." You reply, nearly biting your tongue as the whole frame jumps as the ship hits a particularly large wave that suddenly knocks the speed down.

"Eh." He shrugs, clearly utterly uninterested in your plight.

Finally, you feel one of the hinges breaking, and the prow doors slam open and flood the bay nearly instantly, sweeping away all the crew in it. Fortunately, it seems like the warstrider is waterproof.

"So who the heck are you?" You ask, while grasping for handholds on the ship's outer surface trying to pull yourself up from the quickly-flooding bay and up onto the ships' deck. Not an easy feat, with the water rushing inside and the pressure pushing you back.

"None of your business." He replies.

Around you, you see other five ships from the fleet. You can only imagine what's going through their heads right now.

"Yeah, sorry about that." You mumble in reply, worriedly noticing that a few crewmen on the ship's deck are scrambling to turn a Lightning Ballista emplacement around and trained on you. "Say, are you really an engineer?"

"Just a good liar. Why?"

"This thing doesn't have any eye beams or anything like that, right?" You idly wonder, as the as the weapon is pointed against your head.

Struggling against the slipperiness of everything, you manage to just barely heave yourself up on the deck and roll to the side before the Lightning Ballista explodes a beam of thunderous Essence against you.

The beam grazes you, and you feel a shock as the springs in the harness feel like they're about to tear your right arm off in response. Glancing to the side to see the damage, you see that the hit blasted one of the armored plates in your right upper arm clean off the chassis, revealing the mechanisms underneath.

They're reloading the essence weapon. You don't have time to lose.

"Did they hit us?" Lynne wonders.

"Grazed." You minimize. You stomp in direction of the Ballista, and you see the crew scatter and run.

That only delays the problem, however. The other ship are picking up speed and beginning to circle the sinking one you're standing on, clearly intending to open fire as soon as their weapons are ready...

Striding across the inclined deck, you reach with your massive armored hands down to the ballista and rip it out, lifting it up in your hands like a crossbow.

"You are fucking insane, mate." The diminutive lunar scuttles up to peek through the faceplate from behind your shoulder.

Grinning, you point the essence-discharge weapon at the closest ship and.

...

"Oi. What."

"Er."

The lunar stares at you and loudly slaps his palm onto his face. "Are you fucking kidding me. It's that lever there." He stabs his finger on the faceplate aggressively, pointing to a mechanism on the right side of the device. "There, it's that you bloody retard."

You point and nod, taking your aim.

[DEATH FROM AFAR] [Burn: 3/5]

[Phys + Dawn = 10 5 6 8 6 5 5 1 8 1 6 6 = 4 successes]

Aiming for just below the waterline, you let loose the energy blast. Instead, the weapon, not designed for this kind of use, recoils unpredictably in your hands and strikes the ship's superstructure, in a large and colorful explosion of smoke and flashes of light.

"Man that was some fine marksmanship."

"Shut up." you reply.

A beam flashes dangerously close to you, and you instinctively duck, even though the slippery, inclined deck makes it difficult and dangerous.

The QM told me to tell you guys that he has been banned for "proxy/vpn" and will be out for the forseeable future.

Or for being italian, we're not sure.
>>
>>39406668
Unless it doesn't fire in the same moment the trigger is pulled. There might be a quarter-second of kick as the lightning charges up, or the kick might be between the release of the bow and the projectile actually leaving the string. There are plenty of reasons why the kick might take place before the projectile actually enters flight, and all of them have to do with 'this is not a firearm.'

Why can't he just change his IP?

Seriously it's not that big a deal. Flush DNS and restart your router and if it was made this century then you should be good to go.
>>
>>39406723
Because ban evasion and effort?
>>
>>39406700
>There might be a quarter-second of kick as the lightning charges up, or the kick might be between the release of the bow and the projectile actually leaving the string.
That's not how physics works anon, that's completely backwards.

>There are plenty of reasons why the kick might take place before the projectile actually enters flight
No there are not, there are extremely few reasons why such an occurrence would happen.

>and all of them have to do with 'this is not a firearm.'
Physics doesn't give a fuck what it is.
>>

Wow, that's purdy.

But I think Maka's Makas are a bit too big, even for her, and the makeup is a little bold for my tastes.

Acknowledged. And don't worry, I reward effort as much as results :D

Reminder that writefaggotry and similar stuff count as well.

>>39407029
Disagree. They look fat, rather than big. Part of it is the pose and the way the hair blocks the waistline; the total effect makes her look chubby, rather than shapely. If they were slightly less than the size of her entire head, they'd just look big instead.

>>39407041
Did you consider topping it off with a caste mark?

Hotter than Hell. You really did a good job, anon.

Have Maka, the Abyssal Battleship. She will conquer Tianna with her mighty cannons.

>>39408385
I'm on borrowed internet and can barely do anything. Rest assured that EF already had it.
>>
>>39408374
If Maka ever went full First Age, she's in position RIGHT NOW to fuck most everything up beyond all recovery.
