Hey guys, sorry for the delays both today and over the weeks, but I’ve got a week of school and then finals, so it’s a little bit of a crunch to do even this. Probably won’t run again until May, sorry. However this thread should go well into the night, at least that’s the plan.

Sorry for the confusion at the end of last thread, I though being merchants would make it obvious Koko was coming with you, apparently not and that’s on me.

Other than that, hope you all enjoy todays thread and we get along like we normally do.

>Fate Point:1
>Money: $775
>Equipment: Tier 1 Assault Rifle. Tier 1 Armor (+2 wounds). Tier 1 Pistol. Standard Ammo (4). Tier 1 Knife. Tier 1 Bandolier (2). (Carry Capacity, 1 Ammo, 1 Misc) Tier 1 Rucksack. (Carry Capacity 4.) Clothes (3). Blanket (4). Quality Lighter. Tier 1 Med-kit. Tier 2 Med-kit. Tier 1 Toolkit.

Your name is William and you are currently on a horse. Said horse is on its way to Salinas, Kansas, which is roughly a day or more ride from Fort Riley where you are based with Morrigan Military Solutions, better known as MMS. You happen to be accompanied by five of the six other members of MMS, Mary staying back this time as you had other people with you.
>>
>>39406597
You’d seen them before of course, they were Koko’s guards. You’d just never talked to them before or interacted on more than a trading manner. There were eleven of them, with eight of them being guys and only two female fighters besides Koko. Those two however, Chiquita and Valmet, seemed to be the scariest as you’d watched them knife fight before you left…you’d be dead in seconds if you let them get close and you saw how fast they were. You’re glad they’re on your side.

The other eight were seemingly nothing special…but you could tell they were all at least competent if not much better than their relaxed attitude seemed to indicate. Cath, Morrigan and Nem seemed to respect them at least. One was even younger than you, a pale haired little boy with eyes that…well reminded you of yours a little bit. He’d seen things you could relate to. You’d nodded at each other when you left.

You were currently laid out in a box formation around to large wagons filled with goods Koko had brought, three members of MMS down each side with three of Koko’s guards riding in front and behind as well. With twelve people on guard that left two in each wagon, one driving and one alert plus Koko, who was riding in the lead wagon and had spent most of the time on the ride talking to various people loudly, including Morrigan.

“We should do this more!” you hear Koko say to Morrigan, her big fake smile always plastered on her face, “You never come around anymore Morrigan.”

“There’s a reason for that,” grumbles Morrigan, cigarette dangling from her lips even as she rides along.

“So harsh,” says Koko, still play acting, “Even after I opened up the good stocks to you.”

Koko had indeed opened up the good stocks to you, showing you some weapons and armor that you’d never even seen before. Having a total of $725 dollars to spend you’d gotten…

>A new rifle. ($250, +1 on Firearms rolls.)
>A new set of armor. ($500, +4 wounds, maintain phys 2 to wear.)

It's expensive, but we're going to get longterm value out of them as far as I can tell.

And we're currently on a well paying job, so we don't have to worry about having enough money for ammo and blankets after the mission.

You’d grabbed both new, better fitting armor and a better rifle, replacing your slightly older and more worn one with a newer one. It wasn’t exceptionally better in any way, but it had seen less wear and tear and its parts were in better shape. That had happened for nearly everyone else as well; they’d been either saving up just as long as you or longer and had taken the opportunity to upgrade as well.

Everyone but Sarah had upgraded to a better set of armor, leaving her as the only one with the older (Tier 1) type of armor. Everyone else had the new kind (Tier 2). Morrigan had grabbed a new rifle like you (Tier 2), Cath and Bellona had both grabbed better LMG’s (Tier 2), Nem had grabbed a better shotgun (Tier 2), and Sarah had decided to fix up her old sniper rifle (Tier 2) as well as grabbing an SMG (Tier 1) since you were likely going to be inside and you can’t swing a sniper rifle around so well in tight corridors.

Besides your weapon and armor, you carried your normal ammo belt, pistol and knife combo as well as both medkit’s, food, toolkit and a double set of ammo. The only reason you didn’t have a blanket was because Koko had let everyone use some from her stock while you were on your trip. You liked her for that at least, even if she weirded you out a little bit.

You were getting closer to Salina’s know, only an hour or two away as the sun rose towards its height, having broken camp at dawn so that you could get there ahead of the main group from Mars.

“So, Morrigan,” asks Koko, her voice suddenly getting more serious, “Which direction should we approach from?”

“Why’re you asking me?” says Morrigan, looking over at Koko from where she’s riding her horse.

“You scouted it,” says Koko, looking ahead to where Salinas should be, “So you know the area better. While from the east is out of the question, we could easily approach them from the North, South or West if we made a small change in our path.”

“Hmm…” says Morrigan, “Maybe…”

In the world of merchandise, just like on the battlefield, one must be prepared to die at any moment. By denying them access to their armory we force them to buy our bullets, by blocking their hospital they are forced to buy our bandages and blankets, by going to their HQ we become true Americans by having money run their lives.

“We should probably stick to just straight from the west,” says Morrigan pointing straight ahead, “North and south are their armory and HQ respectively and they’ll probably be a bit twitchy if we come from there. West is a straight shot to the hospital which seemed like some sort of residential/prison thing they had going. Probably the best bet.”

“Hmm…” says Koko, apparently thinking until she glances down at the older man next to her on the wagon, the one who seems to be the leader for her guards, “Lem?”

“Can’t see how that’s a bad idea Koko,” he says to her without looking up, a nice looking rifle with a scope decorating his side, “I’d really prefer not to get shot, especially before we get there in the first place.”

“You’re such a baby Lem,” says the woman next to him.

Lem just chuckles and shakes his head.

“Fine fine,” says Koko waving her hand about, “We shall approach from the west then, forward!” she points her hand as if that will make everything go faster, getting a chuckle from a few of her people.

It’s roughly an hour and a half later that you spot the outskirts of Salina and few minutes after that that you are spotted by a patrol. Since you weren’t trying to hide and there were quite a few more of you than last time, you guess that’s not unexpected.

“Halt!” says the leader of the patrol, a slightly older and more grizzled looking man who seems to at least know which way his gun goes. You see one of the other guards looking about and picking his nose.

“What are you doing here?” he demands from you, most of the roughly ten man patrol at least looking in your direction, “What do you want?”

You see Morrigan and Koko glance at each other.

Why the fuck would you trust in the piece of shit seed generator that tries to claim its random when its anything but?

It's entirely based on time, post number, post rate, and also anything in the namefield influences it aswell.

It's one of the worst 'random' dice generators around.
>>
>>39408023
I still haven't seen any evidence that there's any truth to that. Even if /tg/ dice are based on the clock, it would be trivial to hash it to something essentially random. Unless you can tell me what the algorithm actually is, I can only assume you're talking out your rear end.
>>
>>39408177

You see Morrigan tilt her head just slightly towards the guard, apparently signaling Koko to go ahead.

“I am Koko Hekmatyar, traveling arms dealer extraordinaire!” she says standing upright on her wagon and smiling down at the guard, “I come bearing many wears for sale, of great quality and price. I wish to enter your fine town so we can do business, I’m sure I have something for everyone, even some clothes and such for your civilians.”

As she finishes her speech, the leader of the group frowns at her, but is distracted when one of his men leans forwards and whispers in his ear. He frowns even more at that, but seems to agree with whatever the man said.

“Fine,” he replies to Koko as he signals his men, “You can enter Salina to sell your wares. But we’re going to be with you the entire time; we have more men around as well so don’t try any funny business.”

“Of course not,” says Koko with her trademark smile, “We’re but simple merchants looking to make a living in these troubling times.”

The leader frowns again, but gestures you forward anyway. His dozen men surround your group, leading you nearly straight to the hospital. You’re eventually led to a small flat blacktop area near the hospital that has been cleared sometime in the past. Here you all dismount, a crowd of people having gathered about as you entered town. Koko’s people begin to all set up shop, two large tables being set up and supplies and weapons pulled off the wagon and placed behind them while Morrigan gestures at you to come over.
“Billy,” she says as the others are already on their way to various spots around the camp and perimeter, mostly near your still unfriendly looking guards, “I want you to…”

the Vector's recoil system is only worthwhile in a short barreled package, in a full size rifle its completely pointless and actually detrimental to the rifles performance, fucking artists need to research this shit

good nearfuture sci-fi designs can be found from the concept art books of the Avatar movie, setting and game, has actual good science behind it and isn't just copy pasted vectors

“I want you to guard the supplies,” says Morrigan, looking between Koko’s people, most of whom are facing forwards as the crowd around you begins to build and build, getting quite large as word apparently spreads around the town that someone is here to sell, to where the others of MMS are split into two groups patrolling around the perimeter, “There shouldn’t be any trouble, but watch out and call for help if you need any.”

“Ok,” you reply to her, trotting to the back of the lot where the supplies have been piled up relatively high, leaving you slightly alone as the crowd in front of the table clamors for help, Koko and her crew doing a great job at selling things and creating quite the commotion.

You’re there for nearly half an hour before you see someone come around from the corner of the building in front of you.

It’s a woman, one dressed in a slightly tight looking outfit that you can’t really place, it doesn’t look like something you’ve seen around very much, meaning you don’t know what she does or why she’s there behind the supplies with you.

“Psst…” she whispers at you, motioning towards you with a finger, obviously intending for you to go around the corner with her, “Come here soldier boy, I have something I want to show you.” You can see her leg is stuck around the corner for some reason, her skirt pulled high and exposing a lot of her leg. Not very practical at all.

>Go over to the woman.

You look at the lady, who seems to be wiggling her leg a little bit. She must have an itch or something. You shake your head no at her, Morrigan said to stay where you are and guard the supplies, not wander off with random ladies. She also said that you should call for help if you needed it, but the lady doesn’t seem to be doing anything you need help for, at least not yet.

“Are you sure?” she asks, her tone sounding hopeful as her skirt is pulled higher and higher, “I can show you something you’ll really like~”

You shake your head no again, wondering how the lady could know what you like. Besides MMS and the people in it the only thing you really like are blankets and food and…well you like a few things, but she couldn’t know what they are. You shift yourself so that you can raise your rifle more readily in her direction.

When you do that you hear her sigh and something drifts towards your ears, “only caravan guard not interested…”

She disappears back around the corner briefly, then she comes back around with her hands up in the air.

“I really need to show you something,” she says, her hands in a nonthreatening gesture, “I think you’ll be very very interested in what it is.”

You shift again, raising your rifle as she takes another few steps closer to you, unsure as to what she wants.

“Damnit kid…” she says, looking about her voice now low, “Can you at least listen to me here, I think we can help each other out here.”

You frown and…

You keep your rifle pointed at the lady, who doesn’t seem to be doing anything dangerous…but you don’t like how she’s just looking at you while you have your rifle on her. Normally people get at least a little bit nervous when a rifle is pointed at them, but she’s…eerily calm.

You decide you need to call Morrigan over, she’ll know what to do.

“Morrigan!” you call, turning your head just slightly, to which the lady suddenly lowers her hands and leaps backwards causing you to jerk your rifle towards her…but she somehow disappears around the corner quicker than you can get a bead on her. You see her dart around the other side of the building and then presumably down the street, headed away from you at a fast pace.

Morrigan arrives a few seconds later, having jogged over to where you were since you only called out once.

“Billy what happened?” she asks, finding you with your weapon up and finger on the trigger.

“A lady came…” you say, keeping your weapon up for a while more before lowering it, “She kept asking me to come around the corner then she said she wanted to talk…she ran away when I called for you.”

Morrigan looks down the small alley where she disappeared, her weapon leading the way.

“Well she’s gone now,” says Morrigan, coming back to stand with you, “I’ll stay here for a bit, they seem to have everything under control at the moment up front.”

You nod, Morrigan settling in next to you as the crowd out front continues to make a ruckus. You’re there for over an hour, Morrigan staying with you when you suddenly hear the loud sound of automatic rifle fire coming from the north.

“Billy, come on!” says Morrigan, pulling you around the corner where you see most of the crowd still standing in front of the tables until another long burst sounds out from the south.

Mars has apparently arrived.

As the sounds of gunfire start to intensify, the people around start scattering and running in various directions, some of them screaming as they do so. Your guards however are still at their posts, the leader turning to say something to Koko from where he is.

You see Koko signal to…

d20 with crits really isn't all that bad.

anon shitloads of bad happened that we were only spared from because of our squadmates, if you don't consider that we needed to rely on them to save our ass as bad let alone what would have happened if they were not there then you are retarded.

Wait, I'm not good at math, wouldn't a 1/20 by 3 equal out to being something like a 19% chance? Because on a single roll it's a 5% chance, and multiplying the chance by 3 isn't the actual correct way to do it and the odds increase slightly on their own from multiple rolls.

I'm REALLY bad at math

>>
>>39410634
I don't mind failures, but overriding crits in D20 systems are stupidly crit heavy systems for little reason.
>>
>>39410634
You do realize there's a ~14%-ish chance of autofail, right? While it tends to get brought up when 1s are rolled, it's still beyond me why so many QMs think best-of-3d20 are reasonable. It's stupidly biased towards either very high rolls, or the occasional auto/crit-fail.
>>
>>39410704
You don't understand English, do you? That's exactly what it says.

>a one will get us killed
>>
>>39410725
I like it because although we have a 19~27 % Chance to roll a 1 we have a higher chance to roll a 20 because Guide uses 20s override 1s.
>>
>>39410704
>a bullshit 1 will get us or a friend killed.
Learn to English better then anon. Your writing needs work.
>>
>>39410605
Pretty sure it's actually 1-(19/20)^3=0.142625 or a 14.2625% chance to get at least one natural 1 out of three rolls. Of course, this doesn't take into account 20s cancelling out or overriding.

Koko is signaling to remain steady, so you keep your weapon down, though you can tell that Morrigan is slightly upset that she has to wait.

You can’t quite hear what the man is saying, but he’s gesturing towards the hospital and you see Koko nodding in agreement. She gestures in the “gather round” motion, signaling everyone to come closer, which you do as does everyone else from MMS.

“Our lovely protectors think that we should get inside for our own protection,” she says sweetly, “So we should go with them now.”

The guards circle around you once again, leading you towards the main entrance of the hospital, where you’re met by an additional guard of six, the eight man patrol you saw on your scouting mission down the street.

As you reach the entrance to the hospital they hold you up, two of the usual guards raising their hands.

“We need your weapons before you can enter,” says the lead one, clearly focused more on the approaching gunfire than your supposed identity as “Merchants.”

A glance behind you shows that your guards are in a semi-circle around the hospital, their backs to you as Morrigan looks at Koko and Koko makes the hand signal to…

Koko’s hand moves in the signal to open fire as she suddenly ducks down behind Valmet’s legs. The men in front of her don’t even have a chance to react as a knife comes out and slashes their throats, leaving them gasping for air. The other four standing close to you get similar treatment, knives across the throat or in one case a close range pistol shot to the back of the head. They don’t even know what hit them.

The ten guards who were in a semi-circle behind you don’t have much of a chance either, only one turning at the sound of the gunshot and he’s your target, you put a burst through his armor at close range and he drops with a wet gurgle as the repeated sounds of assault rifles firing hammers your ears. You hear the sound of Cath and Bell’s LMG’s hammering out long bursts and you turn to see the squad of eight down the street turn into little more than wet chunks of meat.

As the firing finishes your group of seventeen, sans Koko, has dropped twenty four unsuspecting enemies in a matter of seconds.

Koko stands up, having removed her hands from over her ears.

“Everyone ok!” she yells as all of your ears ring from the gunfire.

“Clear!” you hear come from everyone, a few people reloading their weapons.
>>
>>39411503
You turn back to your man, making sure he’s dead as a few of Koko’s people dart inside the building to secure the main lobby.

“What now?” Nem asks Morrigan, who glances at Koko.

“At the very least we should secure this room,” says Koko, gesturing off to the side where you see a great number of weapons stored, not quite an armory but more like a series of lockers for individual peoples weapons.

“Yeah,” says Morrigan, “But we need to get that flag up or Mars is going to assault this building just like any other one and I don’t trust them not to. Plus there’s noncombatants somewhere in here…”

“Hmm…” says Koko, “So we need to secure the hospital...but that means splitting our forces. The hospital is way too big for just one team.”

Morrigan looks about, there’s only sixteen effectives, Koko isn’t a fighter.

“Well…”

>We’ll sweep the hospital ourselves.
>We’ll sweep one half, you sweep out the other.
>We should relocate, destroy the weapons and pick another building.

“We can clear half,” says Morrigan gesturing to the right, “If you can clear the other half.”

“Hmm…” says Koko, glancing over to where Chiquita and Valmet are standing, “We can do that. Valmet, Chiquita, Jonah.” Koko calls out the names of two women and the younger boy, all of which turn towards her.

“Yes Koko?” asks the one with the eyepatch.

“Clear out that side of the hospital would you?” says Koko, gesturing to the left, “The rest of us will stay here and guard the front door.”

“Anything for you Koko!” replies Valmet, her and Chiquita nodding at each other briefly before they turn and run down the corridor, the boy following after them with his rifle.

You turn to look at Morrigan, who nods and gestures down the right, “Nem, me, Cath, Billy, Sarah, Bell, keep out of the middle of the hall and watch your corners.”

Everyone else nods, falling in as Nem leads with her shotgun.

The first floor seems clear, though you find two main staircases to follow up.

“One team,” she says, gesturing upwards, “I don’t want us to get separated and shoot each other.”

“Right,” says Nem, “don’t shoot me in the back either.”

“Just go,” says Morrigan, pushing her up the stairs gently, “And make sure to watch our backs Bell.”

“It’s my back too,” she says, her LMG pointed down the hall, “You’re good.”

With that little bit of banter out of the way, you start to clear the hospital floor by floor, checking each door as the sounds of battle outside intensify. You run into no organized resistance, most of the rooms are empty and when you do encounter men, most of them aren’t armed with more than a pistol. Nem and Morrigan usually drop them before they can do more than reach for their holsters. One comes out of a room to surprise Nem and Morrigan, but you drop him with a burst of your own. Bell gets one as well as he tries to sneak up on you, but he’s down before he can turn the corner.

By the time you reach the top floor you’ve killed another twenty or so men, none of them armed with anything heavier than a light pistol. As you approach the landing at the top of the floor, you see someone waving a white cloth over the edge.

“Peace!” cries out a familiar voice, “I’m a friend and want to talk.” You can see her head peeking over the edge, it’s definitely the same lady from before.
