RULES AND STATS: http://pastebin.com/5q9fPFjz

You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

Currently, you were back on base at the Pillar, waiting for word to be sent out on a new mission. Currently, Atlas forces were battling with Dahl forces in a full blown corp war over what you knew to be a hidden Belkan Vault. Occasionally you'd be sent out to intercept a Dahl or Hyperion flight, but otherwise you were not sent out to do any operations at the actual Vault. Obviously Irons wanted to keep his find restricted to Atlas only. You couldn't blame him, though. Corporations were going to be corporations.

Of course, this left you with a lot of free time. If there was a silver lining to this, it was that Irons was too busy with the current operation to pay much attention to your activities. With you and your squadron, maybe some help from Jaeger, you could probably go check out the other Vault your Uncle told you about without too many questions being asked. However, you weren't sure if you could pull it off without Samantha's approval. You didn't really know how involved she was with Irons' schemes, though she could be getting kept out of the loop just as much as you were.

...what? 10s and 1s cancel each other out. That's how it was since VMQ. The Cyberpunk Idols and Gundam Build Fighters systems were the only exceptions.

You're still left with the remaining roll, which still gives you a decent chance of success.

That's the theory, anyways.

>Again, I think you guys are making mountains out of molehills about the roll system, and frankly speaking, you guys have been doing pretty well so far. I'll consider making changes if it becomes an endemic problem, but so far I don't think it is.

You decide that it's time to tell Samantha what you know about the Vaults, assuming she doesn't know about them already. You head over to the building set aside for Artemis operations, where Samantha's office is located.

"Hey, Karla, can I help you?" Samantha asks, pretending to look busy despite the fact her desk as actually completely clear of paperwork.

"Possibly." You say as you sit down across from your boss. "Samantha, have you heard of anything called a Vault?"

"A what?" Samantha frowns. "Like, a bank vault?"

Huh, so it looked like she really didn't know. At least you were safe in knowing she wasn't in league with Irons. However, even if that was the case, you still wondered whether telling her was the best course of action. She might try to stop you, or worse, might catch the blame if things went bad.

A question: i just ordered a ps2. i'm going to be getting 3, 4, 5, and 0, but i'm not sure about 3. I understand that there are two versions, Japanese and English, and that the English version has plot and content cut from it. However, i discovered this.

http://projectnemo.net/

What do? Also, does anyone know any skin mods for any of the games, or mods period? Or if mods are even possible?

(Is it possible to burn roms to cds to play the games from emulator files?)

Modify your PS2.

And then do the translation patch for 3.

Otherwise, just play JP3.

for combat alone you don't really need to understand the plot. I still suggest get original version.

Yeah, Eng 3 is badwrong, but project nemo seems to moving along. If you want a decent PSX version, I suppose the eng 3 won't be bad, but the JP 3 is much better

>burning roms
Not typically, usually PS2 is finicky about media.
>>
>>39413322
Project NEMO is a US fan attempt to completely translate AC3 JP's subtitles into English
Once its done, they should release a patched version of AC3JP with said subtitles online, which unfortunately restricts you to an emulator if you want to play it
And no, you can't mod the games
They're console-only, which killed any hope of modding them long before it could arise
Besides, AC is so niche nobody would want to
>>39413302

>>39413368
Not to mention the few times The Snow actually comes...
>>
>>39413161
>if it becomes an endemic problem, but so far I don't think it is.
It already is Merc, we have a 30% chance to just fail with nothing impacting that, it doesn't matter how skilled we are, what previous feats we've done, whether we've performed such a move previously successfully or anything, we have a flat 30% chance of our best roll being cancelled out on a d10, if you can't see the problem in that then you need new glasses and need to rethink the reasoning and motive behind your systems because they just seem to be "have dice for dices sakes"
>>
>>39413337
Here's a better question, how many of those failures didn't involve 1s and 10s?
The answer is most of them
>>
>>39413368
yeah, one pass against how many failures?

no seriously, I'm genuinely curious and would like to see the stats of our rolls
>>
I dont know how to mod my PS2. What does this entail?

Do i need to play AC3 to get the full experience? Or are 4, 5, and 0 enough? (Zero does play on the ps2, right?)
>>
>>39413337
How many have we failed without this? Way more. We really only got screwed on one in recent memory. If you want to go back into the archives and prove me wrong, go for it. But as far as I remember after binging, it was really only just bad luck last like 2 threads.

>>39413401

>>
>some faggot gets asspained about d20s in Mercs 2030
>some other faggot gets asspained about d10s in Ace Combat

>>
>>39413161
Why won't you implement an Ace Points system in this like you did in CIMQ? It makes even less sense to not have one when using the lower dice ranges in this quest.

I seriously do not understand why you think this way.
>>
>>39413437
Shut up already.
>>
>>39413413
I don't know if you can mod a PS2, at least not in the way you talk about
Maybe performance mods, but that's it

AC04, 5, and Zero are all PS2 games
AC3 can run on PS2 thanks to the backwards compatibility, but its set 30 years after 5, the latest PS2 game chronologically
It's a good experience, but it doesn't tie in to 04, 5, and Zero
>>

>>39413413
Getting a nice friend to copy a softmod to your memory card, or opening your PS2 up and soldering in a modchip. Softmod is recommended by everyone and their mother.

No, you don't really -need- 3, it's the last in the timeline, so if doesn't affect anything else. 4, 5, and 0 are all normal PS2 titles.

>>39413462
Softmods and stuff for backups and homebrew.

And piracy, but I'm sure no one does that. Totally.I totally didn't pirate Zero.
>>
And to be clear, 6 is not necessary?
>>
>>39413486
Well, if you have a 360, it's alright. Better than Assault Horizon. Not completely necessary, but still good enough.
>>
>>39413413
You don't really need to play AC3. It's a cyberpunk story (megacorps, AIs, etc) set way into the future of Strangereal. 4, 5, and 0 are the 'must plays'. 5 and 0 especially, they have intertwining stories. 4 is separate.
>>
>>39413502

Anything is better than Asshor.

HAWX is better than that abortion.
>>
>>39413413
Story-wise? 4 to Zero are enough.
Three is not really connected to other game except you checking the background info on wiki.
Three is still a good experience tho.

"Erm, not exactly." You sigh.

And you tell her everything Uncle told you. About the Belkan contingency plans when it became clear they would lose the Belkan War, the existence of the Vaults, as well as One Belka's access and the corps' knowledge of them. Samantha, to her credit, stays quiet during the whole time you talk, occasionally frowning and nodding, as pieces begin to click together in her head. She finally speaks once you finish.

"So, that makes Irons' recent decisions make a little more sense." She scowls. "I figured he was hiding something from me. Guess he didn't want us getting a cut of the find."

"Can't you do something about it?" You ask.

"What can I do? He's our employer. It's perfectly within his right to conceal information from us or exclude us from operations." Samantha sighs. "But what interests me is this second Vault you mentioned. Nobody else knows about it?"

"Not to my knowledge." You shake your head. "Me and Lara did a quick flyby earlier. Didn't see any activity around it."

"Hmm, then I think we can get in, loot the place, and get out before Irons notices." Samantha nods. "Yeah, it might work..."

Go 4 -> 5 -> Zero. 4 has a super shitty mechanic that will make you pissed if you go back and play it when you're good at Ace Combat. If you get the mission done early, you have to sit around and wait for the timer to run out before it ends.

I played the games in the order of 6 (picked it up at a Gamestop on a whim, had no idea what AC was at the time), 5, Zero, 4. In terms of the timeline, it's Zero -> 4 -> 5 -> 6. I think.

"Well, I'll leave it to your discretion." Samantha nods, clearly understanding your meaning. "But be sure to bring back enough so we can turn a profit off of it. Competition is tight these days."

"Thank you." You smile. "I think we'll need a well trained ground team for this, too..."

"I'll have Asset Protection go check it out." Samantha nods. "I think I can explain it away as a training exercise, and they're going to need an escort..."

"Well, of course they do." You agree.

You decide to go pay a visit to Jager and his SF buddies. It's felt like forever since you'd last seen him, so you suppose now was a good time to catch up. It's not hard to find him, though. You see him watching over his squad as they're training, this time in the base's close quarter combat range they called "The Pit". It was quite literally a pit dug into the desert sand, with all manner of obstacles and targets placed to simulate an urban and indoor environment.

Jager himself is standing on the elevated observation deck, observing his troops going through the motions. His back is turned to you, and you get a sly grin.

And you then initiate a lunge at Jager, intent on taking him by surprise.

Unfortunately, you're only half successful.

At the last moment, Jager apparently becomes aware of your approach and spins around, but it's far too late for the both of you. Your body slams into his with a loud WHUMP. His arms instinctively wrap around your waist while yours go around his neck. Most scandalously of all, your lips mash against his in an accidental kiss.

Fortunately for the both of you, from the sounds of gunfire in the Pit, nobody below had noticed this exchange.

However, the two of you remain there, still in each others' arms. Actually, you're still floating a few inches from the ground since Jager was a bit taller than you. He just gives you a glare that's a mix of curiosity and confusion.

"This is exactly what it looks like." You give him a sly grin.

"Huh. Well in that case, you should've put more effort in the kiss then." Jager grunts. "But the tackle wasn't too bad. Would've caught most people off guard."

"Hmph." You pout at Jager's seeming nonchalance at the situation. "You seem to be taking this really well."

"Still on the job. Gotta set up an example for my men." Jager replies.

"They're not even watching!" You point out.

"You never know." Jager retorts and lets you down. "Still, I appreciate affection."

"That's it?" You continue to pout.

Jager finally cracks a smile, brushes your hair aside, and plants a soft kiss on your forehead.

"Can't show off my whole arsenal off the bat, right?"

"I...I guess." You nod, your head suddenly feeling hot and dizzy.

"Anyways, what brings you here today?" Jager asks.

"Ah, well, we're going to be going out on a mission soon, and I just wanted to see if you guys were ready!" You wink.

"Mission? First I heard of it." Jager frowns.

"Kind of a last minute thing." You nod ."Samantha's probably going to ring you up soon."

"I see. What can we expect?" Jager asks.

"Looting a hidden Belkan weapons cache."

"Oh, that's nice." Jager nods. "Enemy resistance?"

"I don't think so. The place is supposed to be abandoned." You shrug.

"Good to know." Jager nods. "If there's a mission, shouldn't you be getting ready, too?"

"Hmmmm, I guess so." You nod. However, you grin evilly and lunge forward, kissing Jager again, this time done PROPERLY.

...

...

"Are you always this unpredictable?" Jager sighs when you finally pull away.

"Wouldn't be a fighter pilot if I wasn't!" You giggle. "Besides, I don't remember seeing you complain!"

"No comment." Jager grunts.

"Anyways, see you later!" You wave as you jog off towards the hangar.

---

"You seem in an awfully good mood." Amy looks at you suspiciously as you almost prance into the hangar.

"Well, a few good things happened today." You say grin.

"Uh huh." Amy frowns, her glare centering on you. "Something you aren't telling us, buddy?"

"Not at all." You say vaguely.

"Now Amy, it's rude to intrude on other people's personal affairs." Lilian chides.

"Hmmmm." Amy isn't quite convinced, but further questioning from her is interrupted by a loud BANG.

"WE GOT A MISSION!" Lara yells happily, waving a sheet of paper around. "Let's get ready to fly!"

"Aw nuts, another mission on short notice?" Smokey grumbles. "What kind of weapons loadout do you need?"

>We're not expecting any enemies.

Should we keep the Morgan's paintjob or should we repaint it?

I'm for keeping the paintjob so our enemies know what LEGENDARY plane they're dealing with, but then there's the whole identification issue.

"Sure, it should be safe enough." You nod.

"Yesssss!" Amy fist pumps, but quickly recovers. "Um, I mean, thanks."

"You're welcome." You chuckle. "Just be careful out there."

"Shouldn't I be telling YOU that?" Amy grins at the retort as she heads for her old attack plane.

"All right Wild Cards, let's GO!" Lara whoops.

---

"Morning, girls." Loki says as your planes near the location of the Vault.

"Morning, Loki!" You all chime.

"Well, I got nothing on my scopes. No weather or bogies. Skies are clear." Loki announces.

"Good to hear that, Loki." Lilian says in thanks.

"Awwwwww." Lara groans.

"Don't worry, you'll get your chance next time." You chuckle.

"Wild Cards, this is Talon Team, closing in on objective. No hostiles detected."

You look down to see a small squadron of helicopters. Some carrying Jager's Asset Protection troops, while some were empty to carry off possible loot. You continue to watch as the helicopters land and Jager's men pour out to secure the area.

"Wild Cards, it looks like the area around here are salt flats. Should be safe to land your planes." Jager reports. "Better get down here before someone detects you."

"All right, we're setting down." You say as you throttle down your engines and begin to circle around for a landing approach. No sense getting detected on radar. Nobody was supposed to know you were out here, anyways. You were going to have to trust Loki to provide you early warning.

Yeah, that was a comforting thought.

As the four of you land on the salt flats, Jager's men are already combing the area.

"Your guys find anything yet?" You ask as you pull off your flight helmet and leap down from your fighter, Jager casually catching you as you fall.

"Nothing yet. If it's out here, it's hidden well." Jager grunts.

"Sir! I found something." You recognize Tarin's voice as she waves you over.

"Oh boy! Are we gonna find buried treasure?!" Lara says excitedly as she rushes over.

"Hey, hold up there!" You grunt as you run after her.

"Goddamn how can she run in this heat?" Amy grumbles.

"She certainly has a lot of energy." Lilian chuckles.

You head over to Tarin's location, where she's lifted up a boulder that actually seems to be a camouflaged hatch.

"This looks to be our way in." She remarks and looks up. "Who's going in first?"

"Well, isn't this your forte?" You grin as you pat Jager on the shoulder.

"Yep." Jager nods and you actually see him grin in anticipation. "Wonder what we'll find down there?"

He then draws his carbine and leaps into the hatch, with Tarin following close behind. You and your squadmates wait topside until you hear Jager bellow "Clear!"

You, Lara, Amy, and Lilian drop down the hatch, with some of Jager's squad taking up the rear. You all head down what seems to be a very, VERY long staircase, until you come to a dark, but cavernous room.

"Can you see anything?" Lara whispers.

"No, because it's freaking pitch black!" Amy hisses.

"Why are you all talking so low?" Lilian shakes her head as she turns on a flashlight. "And none of you were prepared for this?"

"Well, I was just tagging along with the guy who knows what he's doing." You put a hand on Jager's shoulder.

"To my right." Tarin grunts.

"Oh, sorry." You put your hand on the correct shoulder.

"Huh, it would be a lot easier if we had the lights on." Jager grumbles. "Anybody know if we still got power in here?"

"I think I found it, sir!" You hear a voice yell as the sound of a switch is flipped.

It's slow at first, but floodlights begin to turn on in sequence, blinding you as they do. It takes a few moments for you eyes to adjust and you're left in awe as you find yourself in what looks to be a massive warehouse filled with crates.

"We're gonna need a bigger helo." Jager gasps.

"Hey look, a map." Tarin points up to a signpost.

You head over to the LOGISTICS section, where hopefully you would find some parts for your Morgan. As you look around, you do find a lot of airplane parts. However, you're a bit disheartened to see that most of the parts stored here seemed to be for other, more common planes, like Flankers and Berkuts. Nothing that looked to be tooled to the specific needs of the Morgan, unfortunately enough.

However, you did also find where they were keeping a large stockpile of supplies, like field rations. You see Lara reach into an opened crate and pull out a box.

"Ew, don't tell me you're gonna actually EAT one of those?" Amy recoils in disgust.

"Why not? Should still be good, and I'm pretty hungry." Lara shrugs.

"Well, they are designed to last for a long period..." Lilian points out.

"Still think it's disgusting." Amy sticks her tongue out.

"Well then you can't have any!" Lara sticks her tongue out in retaliation before taking out what looks to be a energy bar and taking a bit out of it."

"Holy shit!" Lara's eye widen as she chews on the bar. "It's fucking GOOD."

"Like, how good?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Like, tastes like actual food good!" Lara hands you the bar. "Try it!"

You reluctantly nibble at the bar, and are extremely surprised that it tastes like steak. Good steak.

"Whaaaaaaaat the fuck?!" You blink.

"Fucking Belkan space magic!" Lara insists.

"OH THOSE BASTARDS HAVE GONE TOOOOOOOOO FAR!" Amy bellows when she pulls out a meal pack and takes a bit for herself.

"Truly, their most terrifying superweapon of all!" Lilian adds. You can't honestly tell if she's being serious or joking.

"Hey, wait a minute." You blink. " If nobody was ever supposed to have been here... who opened that crate?"

The entire room goes deathly quiet when the realize the implications of the words you had just said. That meant somebody else had been in here.

"Hm." Tarin drags a finger across the opened crate. "There's still a pretty thick layer of dust. Whoever opened this crate did it a long time ago."

"Still, that means somebody was here." Jager grunts. "Which means this place might not be as secret as we thought it would be. Start grabbing the most valuable stuff you can find and load it up! Tarin, start planting the C4. I don't intend to leave anything for our rivals to pick up.

"Roger." Tarin nods.

Meanwhile, you spy what looks to be a clipboard lying on a nearby crate. You head over to it and brush the dust off to see what looks to be a checkout form.

4x EXTERNAL FUEL PODS
2x RADAR ABSORBENT COATING

Down at the bottom, it's faded from time, but you see the name written there, clear as day.

Captain Aaron Weiss.

"Wait, just give me a few more minutes!" You plead.

"All right." Jager nods. "Hurry up, we'll meet you on the surface."

With that, you begin to dash down the aisles, glancing at all the item numbers desperately.

"Whoa, Karla, what's going on?" Lara asks, a bit surprised and maybe a little concerned.

"My father was here." You grunt. "And from how that document was dated, before he went missing. Wherever he went, the key to that information is in here somewhere!"

Finally, after what seems like an eternity, you find what you're looking for. It's a trio of crates. Two already open and empty, but one was still intact, with the letters "VT3" spray painted on it.

"Somebody help me out with this." You say as you grab a crowbar. Your squadmates each grab a crowbar as well and help you pry the third crate open. Inside, you find what looks to be a massive missile.

"What... what is it?" Amy gasps.

"According to this, it's called Trinity." Lilian mumbles as she picks up a dusty manual stowed away with the weapon. "A V-type nuclear weapon designed to be able to be fired from a fighter-sized plane."

"W-what?!" You all glance at the ominous orange missile.

"Y-you know." Amy gulps. "R&D would practically give you anything to get their hands on that..."

You wonder how Jager's men could have missed this. Then again, it was a pretty nondescript designation, and you doubted Jager's guys knew what to be looking for.

Though, It's probably our only chance to pop our nuclear virginity.

On the other hand, a detonation of a nuclear weapon on the Belkan Border would start another war

On the other other hand, if shit like chemical and bio weapons are released later, a nuclear cleansing is the best way to sterilize an area and prevent the spread.

"We'll leave it here. Nobody needs to know about this." You say grimly as you look the rest of your squad.

They all look at you and then each other and nod in agreement. You all knew the danger V weapons posed, especially in the aftermath of the most recent Circum-Pacific War, where Osea was nearly the victim of a mass nuclear attack. This was one dirty secret that deserved to stay buried.

"Let's get out of here." You sigh.

When the four of you return to the surface, you can see it was a flurry of activity as Jager's men were loading the last of the looted crates into the waiting helos.

"We need you get into the air ASAP!" Jager yells when he sees you. "Loki's picked up movement to our north! Possible hostiles!"

"Got it!" You dash to your Eagle while your squadmates head to their own respective planes. You clamber into the cockpit and go through the shortened takeoff checklist. "Loki, do you read? Do you have any idea what's headed for us?"

"Drones just confirmed a large armored and aerial force is incoming. Most likely OB." Loki warns.

"We're still loading the helos, and even then, we'll be slowed down from all the weight." Jager points out. "We'll need you to hold them off if we have any hope of successfully disengaging."

"Got it. We'll keep them off you." You say as your Eagle pulls itself into the air. "Wild Cards, let's get them."
