You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?" You frown as you watch Misono (trying) to fly in a fresh set of F-22 strikers. However, as you had quickly found out, though Misono was very skilled with the sword, she actually did not have much real combat experience, having been shuttled around various home island defense squadrons. Her late father's doing, you suspect.

That meant she had to deal with suddenly being put into an advanced set of strikers, not to mention having to deal with acclimatization sickness. Apparently, her symptoms manifested as minor allergic reactions. Lots of dizziness, stuffy nose, and sneezing.

"I-I'm fine, sir!" Misono manages to utter before sneezing, her body spinning lazily in the air. "It's not as bad as yesterday!"

"She's still going at it?" Janice asks as she wheels Laika in.

"Yeah, the girl just doesn't know how to give up." You chuckle. "But she's doing pretty well. She can do all the basic and advanced maneuvers, despite the lingering symptoms."

"Ah, that's good to hear. Tarin and Jetstream seemed have nothing but good things to say about her development." Janice smiles and nods.

"You can do it, big sis!" Laika yells encouragingly.

Misono only manages to give a weak thumbs up with one hand as she holds a handkerchief up to her nose with the other.

"All right, Misono, we can call it for the day." You say, clapping your hands to grab her attention.

"But-" Misono pauses as she spins to face you.

"You've done enough. No sense exhausting yourself." You say.

"As you wish." Misono drops altitude and floats her way back to the hangar, where the techs are waiting. Janice lets go of Laika's wheelchair and the girl zooms off to go observe the process up close, leaving you alone with Janice.

"Hm, she certainly seems capable." Janice smiles as Misono is lifted out of her strikers. Almost immediately, you see her face pale as her allergies dissipate, and she looks more comfortable as she's able to breathe through her nose again.

"Well, she did have a lot of free time to practice, apparently." You shrug. "And considering her performance against Jetstream, she's definitely got talent."

"Hm, speaking of talent." Janice muses. "What is Misono's power? I'm afraid I never thought to ask."

"Some kind of afterimage effect." You shrug. "Guess a result of having been descended from shinobi. She can only make two right now, can't stray too far from her, and they can't physically affect anything, but they make damn good distractions."

"A good fit for a unit like us, eh?" Janice chuckles. "I've been hearing thigns from Colonel Kelsey, though. Apparently, things aren't as quiet as we initially thought. Do you think Misono is ready for combat?"

You turn back again to see Misono, now out of her strikers and carrying Laika around on her back, though somewhat reluctantly.

"Please, Laika, you already have your wheelchair. You don't need to ride around on me..." Misono sighs.

"But it's much more fine to ride on big sis!" Laika says cheerfully.

"She's already got the potential. She just needs and opportunity to use it." You respond.

"Hm, perhaps." Janice nods and turns to the two girls. "All right, girls, snack time!"

And in an eyeblink, Misono managed to cross the handful of meters separating the both of you, eyes wide like a puppy. At this point, Misono, like everybody else in the squadron, had learned to appreciate Janice's cooking, and was hopelessly addicted to it like everybody else.

"What are we having today?" You ask.

"Oh, just some onigiri and tea." Janice smiles as she pulls out a small lunchbox and thermos. You all take a seat at a secluded corner of the hangar to eat.

"Yuck, seaweed!" Laika sticks her tongue out in disgust as she peels the black, paper-like food off her onigiri.

"Laika, don't be picky with your food." Janice tuts. "You won't get any dessert."

"B-but..." Laika's lip quivers and her eye water.

"Will might fall for that trick, but I won't." Janice remains resolute. "Finish it all or no ice cream for you."

"AWWWWWWWWW." Laika whines.

"See, Janice? I finished everything!" Misono says proudly.

"And you're a good girl for that!" Janice pats her adopted daughter on the head. You can almost swear you can hear the young Japanese purr in response.

"Willllly!" Laika looks to you for support, her eyes going into full puppy mode.

You briefly consider giving in to Laika's request, but you briefly think of the ramifications. That would mean going against Janice, right to her face.

You've been in countless helicopter crashes, been shot at by enemies from all four corners of the globe, gone on suicidal rescue missions, and befriended some of the most powerful people on the planet.

And there was no way in hell you were going to risk your girlfriend's wrath.

"Listen to your mother, Laika." You say simply.

"W-Willy!" Laika sniffs, hurt by your betrayal. "Whhhhyyy!"

"Come on now, Laika." Janice sighs and picks Laika up, plopping her on her lap. "It's not so bad, see?"

Janice then demonstrates by taking a strip of seaweed and taking a bite of it.

"See? It's not so bad. Now you try it!"

"...fine." Laika grunts as she takes the rest of the seaweed and quickly shoves it into her mouth, downing it with a copious amount of tea.

"See? That wasn't so bad!" Janice laughs as she pats Laika on the head.

"Hmph." Laika pouts, unwilling to admit it.

"It's not so bad, Laika." Misono laughs. "There are worse things we eat, like sea urchin."

"What's sea urchin?" Laika blinks.

"Ah, you're better off not knowing." Misono laughs.

"I see you four are having fun." Colonel Kelsey smiles.

"Sir!" You stand up to salute.

"No need to salute." Kelsey shakes his head and turns to Janice. "I was hoping I'd be able to borrow Captain Pierce for a moment."

"Ah, yes, we were just on a break." Janice says.

"Good." Kelsey turns to you. "Captain? If we could talk privately for a moment."

"I'll be right there." You say, standing up. "Janice, take care of the girls."

"Of course." Janice nods. Like you, she already suspected what this meeting was about.

You follow Kelsey to the back of the hangar, where you see a pair of techs conversing casually. They then see Kelsey approach and snap to attention.

"Going to need a bit of privacy here, men." Kelsey grins.

Without any further prompting, the techs dash off, leaving you alone with your CO.

"All right sir," You sigh,"how bad is it and how many bodies?"

"That's might cynical of you, son." Kelsey sighs.

"Well, I doubt you came out all this way for a social call." You point out.

"True." Kelsey nods. "It appears we do have a possible situation."

"Well, give it to me, then." You sigh. It was such a nice day, too.

"As you no doubt heard, the Chinese are currently in peace negotiations with us and the Japanese to pull out of the war, correct?"

"Yeah, I had a bit of a suspicion." You say dryly. "What does that have to do with us?"

"Well, since secrecy was such a high priority, negotiations were being held on a cruise ship in the East China Sea." Kelsey sighs. "Unfortunately, we've lost all contact with the ship."

"How do you lose an entire cruise ship?" You blink.

(cont)
>>
>>39494867
"We have reason to believe that the ship was boarded by Russian special forces." Kesley grunts. "The last communication we had mentioned them assisting a boat suffering mechanical problems. Most likely, they heard about the negotiations and want to torpedo the talks to keep China in the war."

"No protection?" You raise an eyebrow.

Like I said, secrecy was key. There are no defense assets apart from what's already on the ship. Not my call, obviously." Kelsey sighs. "However, we need a team to go in and investigate what happened. The IJN and Navy are dispatching SF teams to secure the ship. They want you to move in as a recon element as well as extraction for the diplomats."

"This is all pretty sudden, sir." You sigh.

"It always is, isn't it?" Kelsey nods. "Unfortunately, due the sensitivity of this mission, your deployment is not voluntary. However, you do still have discretion on how to deploy your squadron assets."

"Understandable." Kelsey nods. "This is time sensitive. I've already instructed your ground crew to to get your helos and strikers ready. Assemble your squadron ASAP. You'll get further details in the air."

"Roger that." You salute.

With that, Kesley makes his exit, and you return to where Janice is.

"I'll rally the girls, then." Janice then turns to Misono. "How about our new addition? She could use some actual combat experience in strikers. Then again, maybe she should stay on foot for this one."

"Misono, you'll be going in on foot for this one." You say. "While you're improving, you're not quite ready for strikers yet."

"I understand." Misono nods.

"Janice, take her to Red. She can get her outfitted, and I know she's got spare foci she can loan to her."

"Of course." Janice nods and herds Misono and Laika away.

"Good luck Willy!" Laika waves as she leaves.

You smile and wave back before returning to the hangar. True to Kelsey's word, your flight crew was already getting the Ghost Hawk ready to go. Ugly was already in the cockpit of his Comanche, doing preflight checks.

"Oh hey, Captain, we're going out on an actual mission!" Bullseye says happily.

"That's odd, aren't you always the most reluctant one when it came to missions?" You raise an eyebrow.

"I used to think that, until Nun decided it was a great idea to live together." Bullseye sighs. "Now I pray for the sweet embrace of a shilka."

"Hopefully with me nowhere near you." You laugh. "Hoskins, Rex, any problems on your end?"

"We're good to go!" Hoskins gives you the thumbs up.

"Everything checks out." Rex nods.

"Ah, looks like the girls are finally here!" Hoskins chortles as the witches begin to filter in and head over to their personal strikers.

"U-um, how do I look, Captain?" Misono says nervously as she taps your shoulder.

You turn to see Misono dressed in AFSOC combat gear. It was a bit large for her since Misono was quite a bit smaller than the average AFSOC soldier. However, it was functional enough.

"Cap! Isn't it great!? A fellow pants wearer!" Red grins as she hooks an arm around Misono's shoulders. "We're gonna be best buddies!"

"I-I look forward to fighting by your side, Red." Misono says a bit reverently. Red was her senior, after all.

"Heh, now kinda know what it feels like to be you, Cap!" Red chuckles.

"I get the feeling you being in command of anything will be a major disaster." You grin.

"Hey! That's not funny!" Red pouts.

Through all of this, Misono suddenly bursts into a fit of giggles.

"I-I'm s-s-s-sorry!" Misono says between giggles. "It's just... you two look so silly!"

"Heh, better get used to it." You laugh and turn to Bullseye. "Bullseye, we'll be heading out first. We need to get eyes on the objective."

"All right, who do we take with us?" Bullseye asks.

Well, since you'll be the advance recon element, you needed to keep things small. You reckon you could bring two witches with you.

"Hey!" You wave to the techs. "Give priority to Tarin and Ghost! I need them in the air first!"

The techs nod and swarm around your two stealth witches, quickly moving to get their strikers ready to fly. Meanwhile, Bullseye powers up the Ghost Hawk's engines and the helo rises into the air. Bullseye then takes the Ghost Hawk into a southwards course, while Tarin and Ghost quickly catch up in their faster strikers.

"All right, Captain, we've got further details on the situation." Kelsey's voice buzzes over the radio. "The cruise ship, the Jade Star, is the personal luxury liner for the Chinese ruling party. After a bit of badgering, we managed to get them to hand over a set of schematics. There's an armored saferoom below decks. If anything happens, the diplomats will most likely be holing up there."

"All right, and expected resistance?" You ask.

"We've got conflicting reports. Might be Russian Spetsnaz teams, or a rogue PLA unit run by one of their hawks. Maybe even both. Just expect heavy resistance."

"The best kind!" Bullseye says sarcastically.

"What about our support?" You ask.

"The Navy's got a sub shadowing the Jade Star. It's carrying several squads of SEALs and Umibozu and is ready to go. They just don't have eyes on the situation, which is where you come in. You'll be reporting to Goblin"

"Roger." You nod.

It's not long until you see lights on the ocean below. You don't even have to tell Bullseye to kill the running the lights, and you switch on your nightvision goggles. Down below, you could see a massive cruise ship, surrounded by a small flotilla of gunboats. So far, it looked to be stationary. Apparently the engines were powered down.

"Goblin, this is Rescue Ranger, I've got visual on the target." You report. "We have six gunboats surrounding it, assumed hostile."

"Roger that, Rescue Ranger. Can you get closer to check out the target itself? We need details on its defenses." Goblin responds.

You mull the decision. You could send Ghost and Tarin in, though obviously at a greater risk of detection. Though they were stealthwitches, their camouflage powers weren't foolproof.

"All right, Tarin, Ghost, try to get in for a closer look." You order. "And try not to be noticed."

"Roger that." Tarin says simply.

"G-got it!" Ghost affirms.

You watch both witches vanish into the night as they go into their respective stealth modes. You don't even see the distinctive blue glow of their strikers either, their F-22 strikers specifically designed to give off as few emissions as possible. All you can do is orbit the cruise liner as your two witches perform their recon work.

"Man, how did hey think that holding their big shindig out on a bigass boat like that was a good idea?" Bullseye grunts.

"Dunno. I don't pretend to know what politicians think." You shrug.

"Guys, I think I saw something." Rex hisses.

"Saw what? Another boat?"

"No. Something in the air. With us." Rex warns. "Not one of ours."

"Damn." You walk over to Rex's side and peek out the door. "Where?"

"Caught a glimpse... there!" Rex points and you track his finger and you nearly swallow your own tongue.

Barely fifty meters away are a pair of witches, their magical runes glowing in the night. No doubt night witches searching for targets, and you knew that Russia specialized in night witches.

"Did they see us?" You wince.

"I don't think so." Rex shakes his head. "But they might suspect something's up. They're hunting, not patrolling."

"What do we do, Boss?" Bullseye asks.

When it is possible without being detected we should also alert the sub about the nightwitches. It might be almost impossible for them to approach stealthily with them in the air so they may need to change their battle plan.

"Drop altitude, Bullseye. Let's try to avoid them if we can." You whisper, even though you know there's no way for the witches to hear you. "No sense giving ourselves away now."

"Got it." Bullseye says nervously as the Ghost Hawk lowers. The two night witches pass by overhead, having lost your trail for now. You can't help but feel like a diver trying to avoid sharks.

"Tarin, Ghost, what have you two got?" You ask.

"I see lots of PLAN troops on the top deck. Armed and ready for a fight." Tarin whispers. "I don't think they're the welcoming party."

"T-there's also a helicopter on the landing pad, with Russian markings." Ghost announces. "P-probably safe to assume there really are S-Spetsnaz here."

"Golbin, did you hear all that?" You ask.

"We got it all, Rescue Ranger." Goblin affirms. "We'll be deploying now. You can let us do our thing and we'll try to get in nice and quiet, or you can raise some hell and give us a good distraction."

Well, the rest of your squadron should be catching up by now, and they had more than enough firepower to put up a fight. It was a matter of stealth vs. force of action.

"I think the quiet route is the best." You say.

"Roger that." Goblin says. "We'd appreciate some PJ assistance in case we get wounded on our hands. Also wouldn't hurt to have some witch support. We can clear an LZ for you, no problem."

Well, you Red, and Rex were sure bets. However, you glance at Misono and ponder whether she should come along or if you should keep her on the Ghost Hawk. It was going to be some hectic fighting in there once the SEALS made contact.

"You're coming with us, Misono."

"Yes, Captain!" Misono nods and gets to her feet. "I look forward to fighting by your side and Red-sempai's as well!"

"Jeez, I'm never gonna get tired of that." Red giggles.

Meanwhile, down below, you can see the SEALs and Umibozu slowly and quietly climbing up the side of the cruise liner using lines fired from compressed air cannons. The sentries near their insertion points are quickly and quietly neutralized by Tarin and Ghost. Ghost, with her suppressed rifle, quietly snipes sentries while Tarin flies in close to either use her knife or just snatches guards off the deck and tosses them into the sea below. Soon enough, the SEALs manage to get onto the deck and clear an open area near the rear the ship, where the pool would be.

"You are clear to land." Goblin says. "Hurry. We won't have much time until the sentries fail to report in."

"Bullseye, take us in." You order.

"Right." Bullseye gulps.

"Just think of it like any carrier landing." You say.

"Yeah, thanks for remind me the last time I did that." Bullseye groans.

"At least we have a working engine this time." Rex points out.

"You're not helping."

The Ghost Hawk dips down close to the deck long enough for you, Red, Rex, and Misono to leap out. With his job done, Bullseye pulls the Ghost Hawk away and off into the night. One of the SEALs, presumably Goblin, meets you on the deck.

"Captain, we'll be breaching the ship and heading straight for the safe room." Goblin says. "The Umibozu will clear the rest of the deck. I'd like to request that your two witches take point for us. It'll help us move faster and reduce casualties."

"Since Red and Misono will be taking all the bullets." Rex grunts.

"Well, they have shields. We don't." Goblin says bluntly.

You glance at Red and Misono. You know that both of them would jump at the chance. However, that decision wasn't their call.

"All right." You acquiesce. "Red and Misono, you two will take point and help out the SEALs."

"Yes!" Red grins and draws her sword. "You and me, Mis! Choppin' up Russkies and Chinese!"

"No finer mission, sempai!" Misono smiles and nods.

"Okay, now that's been decided." Goblin points to a large set of double doors. "Those doors lead into the main banquet hall. Once we reach the kitchen, there's an access shaft that will take us directly to the safehouse. Now, we'll have to expect to run into assloads of Ivans and Charlies once we breach, so get ready for a fight, got it?"

"Got it!" All of the SEALs, Red and Misono included, nod.

"Then lets move! Time's wasting!" Goblin barks.

The SEALs dash to the large set of double doors and begin planting breaching charges. Once finished, they take positions on the sides and Goblin gives a silent countdown...

Even though you were bracing for it, the explosion was still loud and blinding. You didn't even want to imagine what the guys on the other side were feeling.

"Go go go!" Goblin yells.

Red and Misono are the first in. Red fires shots from her carbine in short, controlled bursts, while Misono forgoes any semblance of marksmanship and fires on full auto. The SEALs pour in behind them, taking down scores of stunned and helpless PLA troops scattered about the banquet hall.

"All units, move forward!" Goblin points to the other end of the hall.

The SEALs then form an impromptu battle line as they walk down the hall, weaving between overturned tables and chairs and firing as they go. The surprised and disorganized PLA troops quickly break and flee, but two figures remain. One was a Russian witch in a Spetsnaz uniform, holding no weapon but her fists, each encased in large, armored gauntlets. There was a second witch, a Chinese one, who was dual wielding a pair of shortswords.

"Cap, Goblin, you guys should keep going." Red draws her sword. "I'll keep these bitches busy."

"Let me help you, senpai!" Misono says, reaching for her own sword.

"I'll get the big one, you take the scrawny one?" Red asks as she walks towards her two opponents, her sword slung over her shoulder."

"Whatever you wish, senpai." Misono says simply, a grin forming on her face.

The big Spetsnaz witch initiates the fight, picking up one of the circular banquet tables and hurling it at Red like a giant frisbee. Red just grins and takes one step forward. In the space of an eyeblink, the table, or whats left of it, literally falls apart, the smaller wooden pieces clattering uselessly to the floor at Red's feet. Looks like those all that training with Jetstream really was paying off.

"Excellent technique, senpai." Misono says in awe. "As expected of Jetstream's favored pupil!"

"Aw, it was nothing!" Red chortles.

And that's when the Chinese witch gives a loud war cry before leaping at the pair. Misono dashes forwards and intercepts her, their blades clashing with a loud metallic ring.

"Come on, we need to keep moving!" Goblin pulls at your shoulder.

"R-right!" You nod as you follow him and the rest of the SEALs. "Tarin, Ghost. Red and Misono are engaging a pair of enemy witches in the banquet hall. Support them if you can."

"Roger." Tarin says.

"Janice, get ready to move in to cover our extraction. It's gonna be hot as hell."

"Roger." Janice affirms.

At this point, the SEALs have pried open the access shaft and begun rappelling down. You follow suit, and literally drop into a storm of gunfire as the SEALs take positions around a single door.

"We can always use this." Rex holds up what looks to be a rocket launcher.

"Rex..." You eye him carefully. "Where the HELL did you find an RPO?"

"I picked it up." Rex shrugs.

"Euclid!" You key the radio. "We need some fire support! Can you fire an arrow into the ship's midsection? Port side?"

"Um, yes I can." Euclid says nervously. "Are you sure about this?"

"We got no other way." You respond.

"All right, brace for impact!" Euclid warns.

"Everybody get down!" You bellow.

Suddenly the entire ship quakes as Euclid's arrow strikes the hull of the ship. The lights flicker and sirens blare as the magically enhanced arrow punches through with the force of a tank shell. When you regain your footing, you notice the huge rent in the hull, steel torn open like paper. Ruptured pipes leak water and sorts of fluids everywhere. As for the Spetsnaz, well, suffice to say they had seen better days.

At least the safe room was still intact. The safety doors slowly crack open and a head peeks out.

"What in god's name WAS that?!" The diplomat asks in utter confusion.

"Magic." You say as rush forward. "How many of you are there? Are you hurt?"

"It's just me and the other ambassadors." The diplomat reports. "We're all fine. Took shelter in here once the attack begun. Holed up here ever since."

"Well, we're getting you all out of here, courtesy of the United States." You say when you're interrupted by a loud groan.

"Ummmm, Captain... I think, er.... I may have used too much power in that shot." Euclid says guiltily. "I think the ship is sinking."

"That's what Chinese quality gets you." Jetstream snickers.

With that, the whole force quickly but calmly makes their way up the decks. You finally reach the top, but at that point the ship is already listing heavily. Loose items like reclining chairs and benches begin sliding to the side. Further out, the waters are simply chaos. The gunboats fill the sky with AA fire as your witches weave through the air, engaging attack helicopters and enemy witches. The Comanche and Euclid work to pick off the heavily armed gunboats, slinging Hellfires and magic arrows in all directions.

Meanwhile a Navy Phrog helo arrives and hovers as best it can above the listing deck.

"Come on!" Goblin waves as the diplomats clamber in.

Sorry guys, the thread went on a little longer than intended, so we'll finish things up on Sunday! Don't forget Ace Combat on Friday and the conclusion of HEIST on Saturday!

Awwwww.
Oh well, thanks for today.

this makes me sad for some reason.

Well shit.

It was a nice run anyhow Merc, see you in a few days.

Oh yeah, for those of you who missed it on/don't use the IRC, here's a risque and the only Sliderfic I'll ever probably write.

So does that mean Hornet won't do a Slider lewd?
>>
>>39502096
lack of phyton familiar is saddening.

Well I liked it, except for the hymen part. I know it can happen that way, but Slider being Slider I don't see how she wouldn't have broken it herself, nor it being that painful since you made her and Frank out to be doing good on that part.

But it's your story and makes sense for how you wanted to tell it, so I'll enjoy it for what it is.

Witchy healing regenerates it, maybe?
