The year is 2089, and on the surface, this world seems just the same as ours. If you look more closely though, you will find psychics, mages, mythological monsters and more, all hidden from the general populace. You are an agent of the Order of the Magus Hunters, the organisation keeping this secret from the rest of the world. They are troubleshooters, police, military and assassins all in one, and all so that the world can be safe.>Setting pastebin: http://pastebin.com/Xh4sitqv>Characters & rules pastebin: http://pastebin.com/YdgkmvcD>Archive: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Magus%Hunter%20Quest>Twitter: @QuestSuperVisorThe options are a guideline, not an absolute, which is why I will always include a Write in option. I may occasionally forget to add it but feel free to do so anyway. Some options I list are good, some are bad, most won’t be really awesome. I leave it up to you to find ways to do that. Also feel free to ask things if they’re not entirely clear. I reserve the right to dodge the issue if it’s done for plot reasons, but otherwise I’ll gladly provide more information.
>Last time on Magus Hunter Quest: You went on patrol, find a gang fight with ‘Wizzie’, a magical drug, after which you meet police officers whom you come to a mutually beneficial agreement with. After that, you go scout out a warehouse where Raphael detected something magical and find a slightly shady magical items dealer. You successfully bluff that you’re on the grey side of magical things too but trying to get straight, buy something to earn some trust and then head back home. You tell Mlly to work on the documents that DCI Nettles will have sent by now. The rest of you go to work on the shooting range. You’re all working really well, but about halfway through Raphael twists his ankle and grabs hold of the closest thing there is. Sadly that was a small scaffold Nathan was standing on, and some parts break. Raphael heals both their injuries, but the damage is done. It takes some time to repair, but all in all you worked hard enough to more than compensate.>You, Katherine and Liam 90+: 30%>Blake: success: 5%>Nathan failure.>Raphael rolled a 1: -5%>Progress: +30%>Total progress: 50%Raphael doesn’t stop apologising all the way through dinner. Dinner from which your father is absent again, luckily. His servant simply pops in, grabs a bunch of food and heads off again. You’re not complaining.“Any luck with the data so far Milly?” You ask.“I’m making headway, but analysing it is not an easy task.” She says. ”There are a lot of parameters involved and I had to adapt the software somewhat for this scenario. I expect to have first results by tomorrow morning, if not the day after.”“Since this morning was not a good opportunity, perhaps it’s prudent to introduce me to the rest of the inhabitants now, master?” You hear a voice in your head.>1. Introduce Wooster to the team>2. Wait for now.>3. Write in.>Dinner is running late so I'll have to leave in between writing somewhere. My apologies.
>>39508006>1What harm could that do?
>>39508006>1. Introduce Wooster to the team
>>39508006>1. Everybody, meet the most helpful poltergeist you'll ever have the pleasure of knowing. Also, be polite. This guy makes your food, and you do not fuck with the people who make your food.
>>39508006>1. Introduce Wooster to the teamwhy not>>39508136i dont like the idea of calling him a poltergeist
>>39508006>>1. Introduce Wooster to the teamOh most definitely we need to do this
You stand up and tap your glass with the back of your fork to get the team’s attention. “Excuse me people. There’s somebody here who I’d like to introduce.”You point to the empty space next to you, and a spectre dressed in a sharp suit appears. His features are still slightly blurry, but you can tell he has a moustache and short hair. However, it’s as if you’re looking at a black and white photograph. There’s no colour in him at all. Only white and different shades of grey and black.“Meet Wooster, butler extraordinaire, and the best cook I’ve had so far.” You neglect to mention that you mostly survived on microwaved food throughout your life. Your mother had neither the skills or the time to make decent meals. Still, his food is great. The entire team greets him warmly in their own manner as you introduce them each. Wooster himself is most likely smiling and being very polite. You can’t entirely tell due to the blurry features. Katherine tries to give him a hug but learns firsthand how incorporeality works. After that, the rest just gives a warm smile and nod. Milly however sits through the entire thing with a small device in her hands.“Interesting…” She mutters as it becomes her turn. She looks up from her handheld and says “Your food is appreciated” before going back to fiddling with her thing. She keeps aiming it at Wooster wherever he goes. At least she said something polite...
“Now, one of the things Wooster told me is that he should be able to use your ambient energy too now. This’ll make him stronger much faster, so if you agree to it, it’s much appreciated.” You say.The entire team agrees, though Blake has some concerns. “I doubt he’ll be able to with me.”Wooster nods. “I’ve observed master Bryson, and I believe he’s right. I am unable to do things close to him, but I should still be able to do most of the chores around him when he’s not there.”>Note: Milly will be unavailable until she completes her task, unless specifically ordered to do something else.>What will you spend your evening on?>1. >>39508422>3We wouldn't have any leads on where to go looking for the drugs yet, right? Not before that drug user gets interrogated.

>>39508470Not yet no.Anyway, Stat improvement time! First of all I'll need to know whether you'll be focussing on your psionic strength, your focus, your physical strength or your combat moves. Each of these will earn progress towards improving a single stat.>1. Psychic strength (increase Psychic stat)>2. Focus (increase Mind stat)>3. Physical Strength (increase Body stat)>4. Combat Moves (increase Melee stat)It will take a number of successful trainings equal to the current stat's amount to fully increase that stat. For instance, your current Psychic power is 3, you'll need 3 successful trainings to boost it to 4.You can only make progress once per day per stat, and the higher the stat becomes, the higher the DC becomes. This whole system is still subject to change as I see fit. I'm planning on starting to go to more time-skippy planning style semi-soon with common stuff like awakenings to be handled offscreen, so I suspect that at that time I'll definitely change it up somewhat.Thank you for your patience.
>>39508888>>39508719I must have missed that by a few seconds when I started writing. Sorry mate, but I'm gonna stick to it for simplicity's sake.
>>39508888>pastebin is under heavy load right nowdamnit internet, I'd vote but I've no idea what I'd be voting for without access to the pastebinalso seems like it gets exponentially harder to increase stats
>>39508888>3. Physical Strength (increase Body stat)
>>39508934That's true for most games, explains why you'd have more level 1's than level 2's etc...
>>39508983not really, most are not a pure exponential scale, more gradual increases, but not exponential ones, otherwise once you reach the half life of the scale you can't get any higher
>>39508934>also seems like it gets exponentially harder to increase statsThat is true. Though through story-reasons you might get boosts here and there. And yeah, pastebin is being annoying right now. The rundown, which I forgot to add:Psychic stat is the strength of your psionic powers. This will reduce DC's on using it and allow you to simply do more with it. With the exception of these training rolls, it's never actually rolled.Mind is perception, logical thinking and actually using psionic powers. This doesn't make you more powerful, just that you can handle your powers better.Body: How much punishment you can take and deal out in melee. Your overal physique and constitution.Melee: how well you manage to hit and dodge/block in melee. You can be very strong but still manage to miss the broad side of a barn.
>>39509005Yes, but maybe you're talking about games with stats up to and beyond level 60.I believe we'd be pretty OP past level 10 in this system, no?
>>39509013Although, the actual DC increase will mostly be to compensate your increased dice themselves. The actual odds will only slightly lower. I'm doing it mostly so you don't suddenly become all-powerful in the course of two weeks.
>>39508888>2. Focus (increase Mind stat)We use this a lot, really.

“I know some of you have already done so a bit, but I think it’s time we all did some training together.”You take the team to your training room where you all start working. Katherine asks Blake to help her with some close combat moves, and they go to work. Liam gets Nathan to throw things at him to try and catch. Working on his prescience you guess?Raphael quickly joins in on Katherine and Blake, and he makes rapid progress. You yourself try to focus on your control of your powers. You join Liam and Nathan and Nathan gets to throw multiple objects at the both of you in rapid succession. You catch many of them, but you get hit a lot too. It’s tiring and frustrating, and at the end of the night you don’t feel like you’ve accomplished much.Katherine and Liam have though. You notice throughout training that they make some progress, and you encourage them as they do.The real golden boy of tonight is Raphael though, as he quickly picks up on kung-chi or judo-jitsu or something. You don’t know much about those fighting sports. He quickly manages to catch up, and by the end of the evening he’s roughly around Katherine’s level.> You have made no progress to your Mind stat.> Katherine has made progress to her Melee stat (1/2).> Blake has made no progress to his Body stat.> Nathan has made no progress to his Melee stat.> Liam has made progress to his Mind stat (1/3)> Raphael has gone to Melee 2.> Changing pastebin in a sec. ------In the morning, you wake up late again and go through your morning routine. At breakfast, your father is there again, and Milly is curiously absent. The cerebrum is very happy with your little discovery here. I do hope the Vindex relents soon.” He’s still sporting that smug smile of his.“Relents?” You ask.“I’m doing everything within my power to get the Vindex to hand over the premises to the Cerebrum for further study. This discovery can’t just be used as a base of operations, it’d be like using the Parthenon as a mall.” And he’s most likely butting heads with your mother over it.“I do not believe I would like that.” You hear a voice coming from behind you. Wooster is standing there. Not in colour yet, but features sharp and true. He looks much like what you remember from the vision he sent you when you just made contact, just slightly older.Your father raises an eyebrow. “And who would you be?”“The premises.” Wooster simply responds. “It’s the house. Well, the whole property, if I’m not mistaken?” you ask Wooster.“That is correct. The forest and some of the surrounding lands are a part of me.” He calmly observes. He never takes his eyes off your father.“That… That changes things.” It might be the first time you’ve seen your father worried. “The premises, a sentient being. But wait, maybe under the law of…” He goes off to muttering to himself for a moment before he speaks up again.“So… House, whatever your name is.” He starts.“Wooster.” Your butler interrupts him.“Very well, Wooster. By law you are property of the Vindex, but you recognise Michael Weston as your master? You have bonded?” Your father asks.“Indeed.” Wooster replies. You can feel your father swearing internally. The sudden rage oozing from him tells you that he’s doing his best to stop himself from hitting the table in anger. When he collects himself, he simply repeats himself. “That changes things.”He gets up and leaves. At that point you notice that Milly is sitting at the table. Seems like she calmly entered during the confrontation and started eating.“What was that all about? A law? Genius Loci?” Katherine asks. You’re not too sure either. “Wooster, do you know what that was all about?” You ask.“Not specifically, master. I have actually bonded with you and recognised you as my true owner. Master Tobias told me that sometimes people performed ceremonies around it, but neither of us saw the need for that. I simply bound myself to you during the time you were here. Master Tobias mentioned that separating us once bound would be very difficult without either side doing so voluntarily.” He tells you.Well, that’s good news at least. “Milly, what’s your take on this?” Heads turn as more people realise that Milly’s here now.“I missed the first part of the conversation, but I believe he was referencing the law commonly referred to as the “sentient ownership bond law”. It boils down to the fact that if two sentient beings have voluntarily bonded with each other, the Order is explicitly forbidden from interfering with that bond as long as it stands. Basically, not even the Vindex could take this house away from you now if it wanted to. You should put the facts about your bond in your next report, since it seems you haven’t mentioned Wooster to your superiors yet.”You faintly remember that you did, but that was as an aside fact while dealing with the mystery surrounding the magical circle and before there was any Cerebrum involvement. You continue working on the shooting range while Milly goes back to her analysis. You make good progress, and everyone’s helping really well. Liam once prevents disaster when he cuts off electricity thanks to his prescience. You can probably finish it and have some time left in the afternoon if you so desire. At Lunch, your father is nowhere to be seen, though Wooster privately informs you that he is shouting into a com in his room. There’s more important things to attend to though, as Milly gives her report.“With the data I was given, I’ve been able to narrow down the main dealers’ most likely locations. There are three spots that stand out. She wants to show you a map, but Wooster steps in.“Allow me.” He reads the map for a few moments, then suddenly it appears in 3D above the table. Quite impressive.“Thank you Wooster.” You think you almost saw Milly smile. Surely that must have been your imagination? “So as I was saying, three spots stand out.”She points to a small building in the middle of an urban area, about as close to slums as you can get around here. “This one I believe supplied 44% of the drugs used in the incidents so far. It’s in the most populated area, and readily available for a relatively large number of people.”She then points to the next one. It’s a highway cafe next to a large set of industrial terrains. “This one I believe did a lot more than simply the incidents we’ve been given, due to its location. The incidents we have on file from that area mostly happened at and around the factories, but it’s likely that people have bought some while passing through the area too.”
The last one she points at is in a more fancy neighbourhood. A few small alleys and small buildings in between mansions and large houses. “This one seems to target the richer demographic. There have been a few incidents involving rich highschoolers and I believe that this is the place they got their drugs from.”She sits down again. Wooster leaves the image of the map for you to study.“Thank you Milly, Wooster.”>1. Go after the slums.>2. Go after the highway cafe.>3. Go after the rich neighbourhood.>4. Do something else first (new vote for regular time-spending).>5. Write in.
>>39511138>>3. Go after the rich neighbourhood.go for the money
>>39511138>2. Go after the highway cafe.>4. Do something else firstLets write a report about Wooster and get that out of the way.
>>39511138>Go after the slumsI'm guessing we'll cause least amount of stir there.Do we have some fitting clothes we can wear to not stand out too much?I wonder if the goblin has some chameleon clothing...
>>39511138>5. Write in.Send the information to DCI Nettles, and ask if he knows anything about these areas, since he's a local. Also, if he has a spare plainclothes or three who could do some surveillance. Next, go on Amazon and look for some wireless surveillance cameras we can buy, and then set up, to keep an eye on these three places.
>>39511214It's a leprechaun, as Lilliana informed you when you left. He won't take kindly to being called a goblin.>Captcha: DoumDoesn't look like captcha likes you people very much.
>>39511231Yeah, contacting the good detective sounds prudent.Did anyone talk with the guy we saved btw?
>>39511298mean, green, eh, fair enough. Sorry merchant.
>>39511300Not yet. Lilliana will contact you once she has the report.
>>39511138>3It's probably the safest location, and people there might listen to authority or think we're bribable.
>>39511163>>39511200>>39511208>>39511214So, you guys are not going to tell the detective who knows the town in intimate detail, and can get local boots on the ground in plainclothes to help us, about the three locations?I just want to be sure that you're not trying to get some information about where we're going into before, you know, actually going there.
>>39511361im not against that idea but what if he gets attacked while we are with him that alot of BS that would be heading our way
>>39511361That's actually a good point we should consult with local pd, but make it clear they should stay out of the way so they don't see any magic shenanigans.
>>39511361Yeah, second this idea. Also helps building contacts
>>39511361>>39511214 and >>39511300 here, I'm all for talking with him, but >>39511384 makes good point so if he offers to send men to help us, better have them on backup rather than out in the field...
>>39511384>what if he gets attacked while we are with himTelling him about the locations to get information about them doesn't lead to bringing him with us on the stakeouts, or us setting up surveillance equipment.Right now you're just going in blind when we should be asking the locals about the area.I mean, fuck, you're just going to waltz up to the street and start looking around? Instead of checking Google Maps to see if there are any cafes or restaurants you can go to in the area to survey the place?
Very well, contacting DCI Nettles asking about those locations. This does not automatically mean he'll come with you or that you'll be getting police backup. You can ask for those things if you want, but that's for you to decide when you're actually talking.I'll include a piece of reporting about Wooster to Lilliana at the start btw, as per >>39511200.
>>39511449no what i read from what the other anon said was he would be on there as back up some thing i think would be bad getting information from him about the other locations im all for
>>39511361As long as he doesn't tip them off or otherwise fuck stuff up, that sounds amazing.
>>39511449Idea, maybe later on Wooster can incorporate google map info on his 3D models?Something for the future, right now I agree with talking to the locals.
>>39511556We should talk to Milly about that at some point. We probably have our own Order-approved version that we should use.
First things first. You whip out your com and send Lilliana a message.“Apparently Grand Scholar Weston wants to evict me and get the place for the Cerebrum. However, I’ve mentioned the spirit of this place right? His name is Wooster and he’s bonded with me, which apparently makes me the master of this place. I’d appreciate it if you reported this to the higher-ups, and I think they will too since it’ll get the Cerebrum off their backs. Somewhat at least.”You get a confirmation message about a minute later that she’s on it.With that done you make a call to someone else.“Good afternoon DCI Nettles.”“Good afternoon to you too Mr Weston. Is it mister? Or do you have a rank of your own?” He’s fishing, but you can’t really give him much.“Mister will do fine, thank you. My analyst has cracked the problem.” You tell him about the three locations. “Now, I understand that you’re eager to get into this yourself, but I’m asking you to leave things to us. Information however, we’d definitely appreciate.”“I see. Well I’ll tell you what I know.” For a moment, you hear some muffled sounds, like he’s holding his hand against the com and talking to someone else for a moment. “Thanks Benjamin. Yes, Mister Weston. Well, the first location would be…”
Nettles tells you about the general lay-out of the slums and the ways to enter them through and what to avoid. It sounds like there’s a few people with him telling him bits and pieces he doesn’t know himself. The most important information is that the slums themselves are host to a three-way gang rivalry that’s heating up thanks to the Wizzie. The Laughing Heads and Rimmers, whom you previously encountered, and the largest of the three, the League. Despite their size it seems like the League hasn’t been involved with Wizzie so far, and has actually discreetly been in contact with the police before but only about the Wizzie. They refuse any cooperation on other topics. Nettles says that they think the new drug is dishonourable and that it legitimises them bringing the police into their war when it comes to the drug. You might be able to get some ties with them as well, and Nettles thinks he could arrange a meeting with them if you so desire. The second location is a known hub of trafficking. The cafe is under surveillance already, but so far they’ve somehow managed to be clean every time the police does a raid. The location itself is mainly accessible by car, as there’s not all that much in the area to get to on foot other than the factories. Their regular clientele are mostly factory workers. The final location he doesn’t actually know much about. It’s only been recently that he’s had to go there, and he felt that most people there had more money than common sense. It’s a normally crime-free area, though there’s some regular cases of vandalism and low-tier drug useage that disappear under the shroud of mommy and daddy’s lawyer money.>1. Thank you for your time. You’ve been a great help (continue to new vote).>2. Could you tell something about… (specify)>3. Ask him to lend you some officers.>4. Write in.>Note: you have sufficient clothing available to go under-cover with some pointers from DCI Nettles if need be.
>>39511824>>1. Thank you for your time. You’ve been a great help (continue to new vote).
>>39511824>2. Could you tell something about…The area around the rich area. If he thinks we could get discreet access to the rooftops in the area, so we can place surveillance cameras.
>>39511824>1Keep the League in mind, we should contact them if we run out of options.
“Would you think it that last neighbourhood, would we be able to get discreet access to rooftops?” You ask.“I doubt it. There’s no apartment blocks or large public buildings you can get onto.” Nettles replies.“Very well, thank you for all the information.”With that out of the way, you should decide how to go on with this.>1. Let it be, go do something else for now (go to regular time-spending vote)>2. Ask Nettles to arrange a meeting with the League.>3. Head to the slums.>4. Head to the cafe>5. Head to the rich neighbourhood.>6. Write in.
>>39512122>5. Head to the rich neighborhood.i think the slums might be too dangerous and the cafe is being watched
>>39512122And I'm sorry for the sudden departure but I just realised I have to get up fairly early tomorrow for a presentation, so I should do a bit more than my usual 4-6 hours of sleep so I actually look somewhat presentable.Next thread Friday or Saturday..Good night folks.
>>39512210Goodnight OP, cheers for the thread!
