You follow along behind Ezzy, your pace limited due to the size difference.

When your leg is larger than your companion- and you've got eight to boot-
There's a bit of difference in strides and overall land speed.

Which isn't to say she can't go fast. You've seen her do the snake thing. Curl up, snap out, bite.
And that's like lightning.

But it's also not really something she can do nonstop. Or without preparation.
Which is why she is currently slithering, her human bits near parallel with the ground, held at an angle to stop herself from dragging her head through the dirt as she goes.

The tree is just up ahead- apparently the lamia build beneath them. Or burrow beneath them.
They live beneath them, anyway.

You might be a bit too large to fit, though.

You're here so Ezzy can talk to her mother again- before you leave the forest. And also to get some sort of guide about the care and feeding of snakepeople, because you don't know all that much about them, and you'd rather not stick her in situations that would be...
Unhealthy.

Preventable unhealthy, rather than dungeon unhealthy, or monster attack unhealthy.

>Run and grab a bit of food. To share, not just for yourself.
>Sit tight, make sure Ezzy is okay.
>Distract the snake with chatting. (about?)

You curl your legs beneath you as the lamia starts to fidget, hissing softly and swaying.

"What are you worried about?"
"What? No. No, I'm not worried. I'm fine."

You roll your eyes, relaxing as best you can.

"You will have to call someone out, yes? They won't know you're back."
"I'm going to. Jussst. In a minute."

You let her have that-
And she even starts to move after her time is up, worming her way to the tree, thumping a... drum?
There's a little drum set amidst the roots of the tree.

You can't keep the grin of your face.
Snake doorbells.

Another lamia is quick to appear from beneath the tree, blinking slowly at you, at Esmerelda, his tongue flicking out to test the air.
"Good afternoon. What brings a spinner so far into the woods?"
"Hey- Hey! What about me!"
"Hello, Lamia. Welcome to a Lamia village. Are you lost?"

"You- It'ssss me! Esssmerelda!"
And now he's just smirking.
"No, I'm fairly certain Esmerelda is in her room. She doesn't leave, you see."

You pick up the sputtering snake before she tries to bite someone, her tail twining around your fingers and squeezing as she hisses.
"Hello, yes. Is her mother around? We both have things to say."
"I'll see if I can find her."

>If they were to form a band, which character would play what instrument, and why would Jin play the kazoo? Lyra would immediately and enthusiastically shred some stringed instruments, in a tragically literal sense of the word. Depressed and defeated, she would eventually be introduced to picks and slowly learn that music is not that easy. No, not even bass.
Sheszka would take to the drums like an animal. Because she is one, and making noise is fun.
Nin would pick up a harp, or something else classical. The only member not tone deaf, she would eventually take up a guitar and lead them.
Jin, unfortunately, is afflicted with a disease shared by every harpy everywhere: She thinks her voice is really nice. Especially the bird sounds.

Ezzy is having a bit of trouble calming down.

Which is to say that her tail is slapping against your hands nonstop, hands clenching over your fingers.
And hissing.

Constant hissing, her tongue snapping out as she swears vengeance on the other lamia, and likely anyone else that gets in her way.
Which means that it falls to you: Spider extraordinaire, to take the situation into your own hands.

Which is actually fairly easy, as Ezzy is already in your hands.
You ramp the temperature slowly, lines flaring across your chitin in dull colours.

The snake slowly starts to droops, yawning mid rant, winding her tail around your wrist rather than flipping it around, draping herself over your fingers.

You pull your right hand free, running your thumb carefully over her back, a little bit of extra heat and pressure, leaving the snake sighing in relief and happiness.

"I'mmmm ssstill- Ssssstill angry."
"You don't need to be angry, yes."
"Heee'sss making fun of me. m'get'im."
"You get to see your Mom, yes? You've grown and hunted. She'll be so proud."

"Mmm. Mommy's gonnnna be proud of meee."
"That's right."
"You're warrrm. It'ssss cheating."
"It's strategy."

You're careful to moderate the heat. Don't want her falling asleep outright.
Though her mother showing up to Ezzy snoring, draped over your arms seems like it would be entertaining.
Ah well.

She yawns again as more snakes start to pour out into the clearing- which is a strong word. A clearing for tiny snakes, maybe.

As entertaining as you think it might be to watch your tiniest friend slur her way through a conversation, you expect she wants to show her mother just how much she's grown.
And that having her lolling in your hands wouldn't be the right way to highlight that.

So you drop her down to the ground, letting her coils slide free of your arm, smiling and waving with your free hand as the one snake in the crowd you can recognize returns it.

Ezzy yawns again, mouth impossibly wide, her tail straightening, twitching as she stretches.
She rubs at her eyes as she looks around.

"Whyyy isss everybody heeere?"
"Good morning, dear."
"It'sss afternoon."
"Well, you do seem a little sleepy."

She shakes her head, trying to clear it up.
"It'sss not my fault. Lyra isss cheating! She's warm!"
"Warm enough to put you to sleep?"
"She heatsss up! And the harpy is asssleep, too."

Her mother chuckles gently, closing on the little snake, hands slipping under her armpits to lift her.
"Come here, you. Let me have a look."
Ezzy raises her arms proudly, a wide, dopey smile on her face, eyes puffy from rubbing at them.

"I- I'm bigger! I grew! And I hunted too! See?"

Her mother smiles, little indents in her lips where her fangs are tucked away.
"Mhm. I can see that. Your tail is much longer, too."

Ezzy's tail is flipping side to side again- she wags almost as much as Sheszka does. Or maybe it just seems like it because she's fifty percent tail? Is it even a tail then, or is it just her body?

You stop before you confuse yourself, focusing back on the conversation.

"I'm an adult! Right?"
"You've hunted and left home- You're an adult now, Esmerelda."
She makes a hissing sort of squeak, the sound of a snake desperately trying to contain just how happy she is- hands balled, arms clutched tight to her body, her tail starting to lift into the air behind her and she grins.

You don't really feel like interrupting-
It's a side of Ezzy you haven't seen before.

She spends so much time trying to be adult- Well, you suppose she is an adult, technically. By a monster's definition of the word. But her usual indignant attitude is buried under a burst of joy, the snake all but ready to throw herself into the air.

Her mother does seem proud- a pleased smile, a far more controlled tail, though it's still swinging side to side, however slowly.
She interrupts the snake before she explodes, catching her head with one hand, stroking out her hair as she speaks.

"You're all grown up and you've come home. Are you going to dig your own room now? Leave me all alone?"
Ezzy's hissing in a bit of panic, though it's obvious from her tone that she's joking, prodding your friend into talking instead of just celebrating.

All the other snakes seem to be congregating near you.

"No- I'm not- I mean, I'm not coming home- Not that I don't want to come home! I'm jussst- I like my room!"
Her mother outright giggles at her stuttered defense, patting her gently as she bites her lips to stop herself from blurting out anything else.

"So you aren't staying, then? Still have plans, little one?"
"Mm not little anymore..."
"You're my daughter. You'll always be little to me."
"I'll get bigger."
"That doesn't matter in the least."

Ezzy leans into her mother's hand, shifting forward, pulling her arms around her in a hug.
"I wanna go with everyone else."
"Oh?"
"It'sss nice. I like talking to people. I even went flying."

What?
When did that happen?

"Hitched a ride, did you?"
"Jin- She's the harpy, the owl. She carried me around. When you're up really high, everyone's sssmall. Even the forest."
"Even certain spiders, hmm."

You snort, and they both laugh a bit.

"You're going to leave the forest then, Miss Lyra?"

"Well, I was planning to-"

You've got the strangest sense of deja-vu.

And you react instantaneously, right hand swinging wide, palm open, just at mouth height-
You almost catch Nin, but she's already spinning away cackling, wings flaring wide to catch the sun, show off her gold tracery.

"Lyra- That is, of course, the future queen- Has decided that she needs to expand her horizons! To see people, places, to spread the word of her deeds and greatness! Which is why I, her herald-"

You groan, scrubbing your face impotently, leaning down towards the snakes so you can talk over her.

"Ignore her, please. She fell from her nest a lot, I think. I wanted to head to the elflands, yes? But, ah- I do not know much about sn- lamia."
"And knowing about us is important?"
"Some things are, yes? Like whether or not Ezzy needs to sleep through the season. Or if she can stay active because I can keep her warm. And also- Hm. Now that I think about it, she doesn't eat much. Do you only eat every other day or so? Do your scales shed? What about-"

"One at a time, please."
"I thnk that might have been everything, yes."
"Then I will try and answer."

You opt to ignore the moth climbing onto your shell to better address the people around her. You'll get her later.

"Well then- To start, 'Ezzy'-"
The snake in question mutters a bit at her nickname.
"-Should be fine staying awake."
"Should be?"

"Even when we lived in the city, people would sleep through the winter. Some would stay awake, though."
"They don't have to, but they do anyway?"
"It's very comfortable."
"Mm. You might be more like Ezzy than I thought, yes."
>>
>>39532702

That one gets you a laugh from the younger snake.

"I see. Well, the rest- We can eat more than we need, then eat less than we need. Or we can eat little bits at a time, but I'm afraid my daughter might be a glutton. We shed our scales as we grow, or when they get worn. It just happens, we can't control it."
"I see, yes."
"Your moth friend is still going, dear."

You glance over your shoulder, where Nin is waving her arms like she's leading a sermon.

You twist and reach, snagging the moth by the back of her neck- She makes her odd little chirp noise as you manhandle her in front of you, draggint her knees up, her arms down, pinning her to your chest as a little moth-ball.

"You can't stop me like this!"
"Of course I can."

She chirps louder as your free hand starts to work through her hair, delicately handling her antennae as you speak to Esmerelda's mother.

"Ah- Two more things, yes? Is there anything that lamia shouldn't eat, and are there any common diseases to watch out for? Something we could help her with, yes."
"She shouldn't eat anything poisonous."
"That sort of thing goes without saying."
"Well, I had to be sure."

"And for the other?"
"Feed a fever, starve a cold? Or was it the other way around?"
"You are much less helpful when you are being silly."
"Perhaps. Make sure she keeps her scales clean. She can catch things that way."
"We take lots of baths, yes? It's nice with hot water."

She turns from you and your captive moth, back to her daughter, fidgeting idly, her tail twisting into knots.
"I- I take baths! All by myself, too!"
"I'm sure, dear."

And then she grabs her child by the shoulder, dragging her in for a hug, each one's head resting on the other's shoulder as they embrace.
"Take care. And stay safe. And try not to spend all your time sleeping."
"I will. I love you. And I don't sleep all the time."
"Try not to rely on your friend to wake you up, then."
"I'll... try."

"Mhm. Take care, Esmerelda."
"Mommy."

They pull apart, Ezzy squirming up your offered hand to your throat, her mother leaning back and coiling as she watches you.

Both wave as you start to go, goodbyes echoing around the little clearing as you step high to dodge the snakes that had wound their way underfoot in search of heat.

You turn and wave one last time as they start to disappear back underground, and then you're moving, heading for home, the sun setting overhead.
Almost there, now.

They're kind of out of our size range but what areas are the centaurs mainly found in? It's been implied they can be found through human territory but I don't recall seeing much else.

Also additional interaction would be humorous considering they try to stay away from us.

Nin accidentally causes us to stage a coup by running her mouth near the current ruler, allowing a number of political dissidents and religious fanatics to take the opportunity to start a civil war. We take it upon ourselves to reunite the elflands by resolving the war, which turns out to have been manipulated by a cult leader convinced he was a minor diety hiding in a forest on a mountain.

Unfortunately, the ensuing battle starts a forest fire, which in turn begins a rockslide that claims both the city and the forest. However, with the string-puller gone, all that's left is the normal rebels, which we deal with through the much more mundane means of hitting them until they die.

That we both start and resolve a civil war is very strange to most of the elves, and they politely ask us to leave. On the way out, we hear that a number of former fanatics as well as some new believers have begun to praise us as the Fateweaver, a strange being who manipulates the web of life for her own entertainment.

Nin is deeply amused. We are not.

Are there sandworms (girl or otherwise) in the great desert?
>>
>>39533930
Congratulations you bastard, you just won us a TPK!
>>
>>39534243
Probably the boring man eating kind of sandworms. From what we've gathered, there are plenty of conventional monsters in this world, the kind that aren't so talkative and friendly.

Its also been suggested, based off of the two examples we know of, there are likely fully tribal and/or feral monsterfolk who might as well be full out monsters for how hostile they are against everyone else. (Hell, in lambs canon there are tribal men that are only one or two steps from feral)

No, there was smut about Lyra and Nin going at it after they stopped dancing around their love/lust.
