You are Randal Tallstag, a young lord of House Tallstag, one of the great five noble houses of the kingdom of Whitestar. There has been much trouble in Whitestar the past few years and your house has fallen greatly because of it. Barbarians from the far North have invaded your kingdom and stolen much of its land, nearly wiping out your entire noble house save for you and a few others in your family, namely your father and your uncle and his family.

Your house along with the other great houses, have been called to the capital of Whitestar, the city of Snowhaven. This great city is where the king resides with his family, the Frostclaws. Winter is approaching and it will be your 18th one, you are finally coming of age and will attending the Will of Ice ceremony as all nobles who come of age do.
>>
You awaken to the sound of knocking on your bedroom door, you arise from your bed with a yawn and hear a familiar voice. "Son, wake up, we have guests, it would be rude to keep them waiting." It's the voice of your father, Dorn Tallstag, leader of the Tallstag noble house.

"I'm up father, I will be down shortly," you reply grogily.

"Very well, justdon't take too long." You hear you father walk away and down the stairs.

You get dressed and survey the room, it is quite elegant, like the rest of the capital, but its just not the same as Northwind Castle. You grab your longsword and coin purse with about 40 pieces of gold in it and head downstairs. When you arrive downstairs and head into the dining hall you see two familiar figures turned away from you facing the fireplace. They are red-headed twins, one boy and one girl, it must be them, Trista and Tyrel Wolfsheild, they are the same age as you and your oldest friends.

What do you say?

>"Trista and Tyrel, is that really you?"
>"When my father said we had guests I didn't realize he meant you crazy lot."

"Oh! Randal! Its good to see you!" Trista exclaims as she rushes forwars and hugs you. "I haven't seen you sonce the summer!"

"Ah yes, well uh would you mind letting me go so I can greet Tyrel?"

"Oh! Sorry about that."

Trista releases you and you step forward and shake Tyrel's hand, he's been quiet up until now.

"Good to see you Randal, how have you been?" Tyrel says heartily.

"I've been well, though I must say, when my father siad we had guests I didn't realize he meant you crazy lot."

"Hahah well I guess that's true, but you must be in high spirits if you're already cracking jokes this early."

"You could says so, I am pretty excited for the ceremony this evening. I assume you two will be there as well?"

"Oh yes, we are apart of the main family of the Wolfsheild noble house, if we missed it father would have our heads," replies Trista.

Your stomach growls loudly and its at that point you realized you haven't had anything to eat.

"Are either of you hungry? I haven't eaten breakfast yet."

"Now that you mention it, we haven't eaten, we came over here first thing once we knew you were in the capital," Tyrel says.

"Yeah, I'd like to get something to eat but I also want to see the city. We could gp put and get breakfast if you wanted, or we could stay here in eat." Trista offers.

"That sounds like a great idea, let's go out to eat."

"Good choice! I hear the capital has great taverns that serve the freshest food and finest ale!" Trista says in excitement.

With that you head out, letting your father know, he is fine with the descision so long as you are back in time to prepare for the ceremony this evening. One you get outside you head towards the city square. The city is massive and awe inspiring, and the early chills of winter make the taverns and inns seem cozy and welcoming with their warm food and hot fires. It has been years aince you've been to the capital but you remember most of the main roads and buisnesses. The city is alive with sounds of people going to and from, performing their saily tasks. Tyrel and Trista seem just as awe struck as you are.

After a few minutes of walking you find yourself in the city square. There are several high-end taverns located in and around the square. There are other businesses as well, from jewlery stores to blacksmith shops.

"Wow, the capital is amazing!" Trista exclaims. "There are so many taverns, which one should we choose?"

"It dowsn't really matter" Tyrel says. "I'm really hungry let's just go in the closest one."

You all agree and walk inside the closest tavern, the name of the establishment is the Cozy Bear Tavern. Inside it seems like a very nice place, but not too high end. You manage to find seats and sit down.

After ordering and eating breakfastyou decide to:

>Gather some info about the capital, talk to some locals

"I'm in for whatever, so long as I'm here in the capital I'm ready for anything."

Its decided then, you'll go sightseeing and hopefully see the palace up close. You're about to leave when a large burly man grabs your arm.

"Hey, you going to pay for that food you just ate?"

"Oh, sorry, it was 3 gold right? Here you go."

Trista and Tyrel pay for their foosd as well before leaving.

>minus 3 gold from inventory, 37 gold remaining.

After that you head out and begin heading inward through the city towards the palace. On your way you head by the Great Church of the Three. Its belltower stands high over the inns and buisnesses, as if to replicate the three gods watching over mankind. After that you pass by the palace gardens, not matter what time of year it is, the gardens always remain green and full of life. Not long after that you make it to the Palace courtyard.

Unlike the rest of the capital the palace courtyard is rather uneventfull, but that doesn't take away from its grandeur. The walls of the palace ride high into the air and loom over the restof the city. They palace doubles as a castle and in the event of a seige could hold out for weeks on end if the rest of the city were to fall, or so you're told.

After browsing around the courtyard you see a large group of royal guards heading your way. One steps forward and speaks to you.

"Greetings young Lord Tallstag, and young Lord and Lady Wolfsheild. What brings you to the palaceso early? The ceremony isn't until later."

How do you respond?

>"Oh, we were just sightseeing and taking in as much of the city as we can before the ceremony"

"Oh, we were just sightseeing and taking in as much of the city as we can before the ceremony" You say with a smile.

"Ah very well then, My name is Captain Lauriel, I command the royal guard for the palace, it is an honor to meet you. However, the palace is closed to the public until the ceremony this evening, and we are about to close the courtyards in preparation as well. I am sorry but you will have to leave."

"Not to worry," you say "We'll go ahead and go to the market district, Tyrel, weren't you wanting to get a sheild anyways?"

"Thats' right, we might as well go and do it now before I forget." Tyrel responds.

"That sounds good to me, besides I was wanting a souvenier from the capital that I could show everyone back up north," chimes Trista.

With that you head off and once you pass through the gates of the palace the guards close them behind you. Eventually you make your way to the market district, it is about midday now and the city has gotten even more lively. In the market district there are many merchants calling out to passersby. One older man selling what looks like bones, is claiming that bone powder from frost ogeres is a powerful aphrodesiac when consumed. You're not so sure.

There are plenty of merchants that do catch your eye though, there is a middle aged man pounding away at his forge with his apprentice at the counter claiming to anyone to take a look at their fine weapons. There is a Elderly woman selling potions and apothecary supplies. There is also a young elf couple, a rare sight in the kingdom, selling bows and arrows of all kinds. Lastly, there is a younger woman selling general goods of all kinds.

You wager you have time to speak with 2 of the the merchants before your friends finish up buying their things and meeting back with you.

Which 2 do you choose?

>the elderly alchemist woman and her potions

You decide to go to the blacksmith first, and see what weapons he has for sale. Among them are what looks liek fine daggers and longswords, some of them are espciallu rare, you spot an iceforged dagger and a stag horned helmet. You know that iceforged weapons are much harder and more durable than regular weapons, but they come with a high costed price. The stag horned helmet seem to be made of normal steel, though it would match your plate mail and house symbol quite well.

You ask for the price of both the items and the apprentice tells you that the iceforged dagger is 20 gold and the stag horned helmet is 30 gold. Looks like you can only buy one with your 37 gold pieces. Or something else completely or nothing at all.

You decide to go ahead buy the iceforged dagger, it should be a good investment. Iceforged weapons can piecre through regualr plate with ease and take direct blows from various weapons without breaking. You pay the apprentenice the 20 gold and move on to the elderly woman with the potions.

>minus 20 gold, 17 gold remaining.

At the elderly woman's apothecary stand you find several potions in flasks, bottles andthe like. You notice 4 red small red potions bundled together, obviously healing potions, they have a tag pricing them at 8 gold, there are also 2 yellow potions bundled together. You ask the elderly lady what they are. She says they are featherweight potions, when you drink them you become weightless and can move mich faster than normal, the 2 priced together are 5 gold. Lastly there is one dark red potion, its a love potion. It is priced at 15 gold.

What do you buy?

>minus 8 gold. 9 gold remaining.

You walk around the market for a few minutes looking for your friends. After a bit you find them, Tyrel has his new sheild, it looks to be a kite sheild of quality crafstmenship. Trista seems to have a large ornate pinewood box with gold enlays on it. They both seem very happy with their purchases.

"Randal, how did your shopping go?" they both ask.

"Pretty good if I must say so, I got an iceforged dagger and a few healing potions."

"Very nice, should we head back to your place? I'm pretty beat from walking around all day, I had no idea the capital was this large." Tyrel says with a sigh.

"Sounds good to me lets go." You say.

You head back to your estate on the other side of the city, and after 10 or so minutes you notice most of the crowds have gone from the streets of the residental district, it makes sense though, everyone is in the market or buisness districts working. You get a weird feeling, but you brush it off thinking you're just tired.

Continuing on you pass by an alleyway, and that's when you hear a whisper calling your name.

"Randal Tallstag, come here," it beckons silently.

You look around but don't see anyone in the alley, and Trista and Tyrel don't seem to hear it, but they continue to walk on ahead.

"Do you guys hear that?"

"Huh? No I just now heard you, but that's it." Trista says.

"Same here, I didn't hear a thing."

"Huh, that's strange, I guess it was nothing."

You blow it off, whatever it was it was probably just some commoner or the wind, you think to yourself. You're about to continue you walking when a hooded man rushes past you out of nowhere, snatches your coin purse, and runs into the alley you heard the whispers from.

"Hey! You bastard get back here!" You yell as you begin to run after him.

ou notice Trista and Tyrel follow after you bur before they can catch up, the theif whistles like a bird and two other hooded men drop down from the rooftops and block their path, begining a brawl between them. You look back but continue on, you'll be damned if you let some theif steal your mother's coin purse.

You continue to chase the theif down the alley, but he makes a sharp turn down another alley. You follow him, bit you notice your getting further towards the peasant and worker district the more you chase him, you need to catch him and quick.

After a few more minutes of chasing the theif reaches a dead end. He mutters something about someone lying to him under his breath and pulls out a dagger.

"You must really want your money back eh?" say the theif with a scowl.

"I could give a shit less about the money, that coin purse belonged to my mother! Now give it back."

"Nah, if the little laddy wants it hecan take it by force!"

"Very well, but I warned you" you say as you draw your new iceforged dagger.

You didn't want to do this but the bastard gave you no choice, you'll have to fight.

(Sorry about the delay, took a short break for dinner)

"Look, just surrender and let me take you to the watch. Or you can taste my blade, its your call."

"Nah I can't do that, I've been paid to keep you here until he arrives. He said he'll make sure my family can live in comfort if I do this job, I'll happily die for that." he says with a grin.

"Very well...you leave me with no choice."

You begin your attack again. This time he can only block a few attacks before taking another slash across his chest. The theif starts to spit up blood and murmers something. You kneel down over him and decide to put him out of his misery, you raise up your dagger to pulnge it into his neck, but before you do a hand grabs your wrist. You look up to see a hooded man with a shrouded face, but what of his face that you can make out is covered in scars. He has two others in tow that look similar to him. Before you can react he punches you away from the theif.

The other two hooded men grab you, disarm you and hold you up. You see the hooded man who punched you check the thief's pulse.

"You did well, and acted as instructed, but you are dying, and I cannot save you, no one can, however I can give you a swift death. And do not worry, your family will be cared after."

The theif nods in agreement and the hooded stranger pulls out a dagger and plunges it into the theif's neck, killling him. He then turns his attention to you.

"Randal Tallstag, heir to the leader of house Tallstag, it's an honor to meet you. I trust that I didn't hurt you too badly?" says the hooded man as he gets up and walks towards you.

"I am terribly sorry about that Lord Tallstag, please forgive me but there was no other way for this meeting to happen discretely."

"Wait, so you mean you planned all of this, just to meet with me? Why?"

"Yes, this was all planned so that I could meet you, that man died so that this could happen, but do not worry, hos death was not in vain, for he is doing this country a great service."

"And how is that...mister?" You ask, beckoning for his name.

"Ah no need for me to have a name, but if you must call me something, please just refer to me as The Stranger."

"Hmm, very well, but youm still haven't answered my question, why meet with me? And why must it be done discreetely?"

"The reason why I must meet with you is for something very important, it is to ensure the future of this kingdom and its people. The reason why it must happen discreetely is that there are many, even here in the capital that would want to see this kingdom burned, and its people slaughtered, just like what happened in the northern part of the kingdom 10 years ago."
>>
>>39535836
"Wait, what do you mean just like what happened in the North 10 years ago? Do you mean there would be another invasion?"

"That is exactly what I'm implying Lord Tallstag, but there is a way to stop it, but you must listen very carefully to what I have to say next, after which you will make a decision and I will leave you on your way."

You consider this for a minute or two and decide to hear what this man, The Stranger, has to say.

"Alright go ahead."

"Very good, well you see, my friends and I here, are apart of an order, we carry out the Will of The Ice, our order is called Th Enforcers of Ice's Will. We perform tasks, assassinations, sabotage, subterfuge, espionage, and various other things throughout the kingdom and beyond, all for the sake of The Ice's Will. 10 years ago however, we failed in a very important task, one of our own betrayed us and went to the Far North with his knowledge to the barbarians, and led them on a path of destruction throughout the entire Northen portion of the kingdom, then proceeded to place many people under his guidence in powerful positions throughout the kingdom, to further weaken our hold and root us out, and destroy the rest of the kingdom."

"But where do I fit into all of this? Why me? Why now?" you ask hastily.

"Because, you are young and apart of one of the five great noble houses, and because your ceremony is tonight, that alone is why I have come to seek you out. Tonight at the coming of age ceremony you will touch a piece of the Everice, when you do it will ask you what position you want that only a noble from the five great houses can fill. When asked, choose the King's Rangers position, and from there things will begin to fall into place."

"I see, but why should I trust you?"
>>
>>39535863
"I am a friend, and if what I was saying is alie, there'd be no reason for me to fabricate it. If it was true and I was an enemy, I'd have stabbed you in the back when you were dealing with that theif."

He makes a good point, however you still have your doubts what do you say?

"What else can you tell me that can make me trust you?" you ask.

"There is nothing else I can say to make you trust me, but perhaps there is something I can show you that might convince you to trust me."

With that he orders the other two hooded men holding you to let you go, and you see The Stranger undo part of his leather armor around his chest and that's when you see it. He has the Tallstag family symbol branded over his heart.

"I-It can't be." you mutter with your mouth agape.

It is there as clear as day, even if the scarring is old and aged, it is the authentic brand symbol of the Tallstag family, a great antlered stag standing tall. All the details are there, it looks just like the one you had branded on yourself when you were 15 and joined as your father's squire.

"It is my boy, I was a Tallstag once, before my names were striked from all family, public and private records when I joined The Enforcers of Ice's Will, and before I was forgotten to history. So what do you say? Do you trust me now? Can you see I mean you no harm? I only want what The Ice wants, which is what is best for thi kingdom."

You can't believe it, but it is the Tallstag family brand, its no fake either, and the scarring it has left is the same just like yours and your father's. What do you say?"

"Randal! By the Three where did you go? Its just money its not like he stole your hand or something!" You hear Trista yell.

"We had better get going," says The Stranger in a matter of fact tone."and don't worry we've got this man's body taken care of. And by the way Lord Tallstag...you have good friends, keep them close. Good friends are a rare commodity to come by. In time if your friends proove worthy, we will reveal ourselves too them. For now, keep this meeting a secret."

"Uh, yeah sure thing, I'll think of some cover story." you say, turning towards the alley you originally came from. You turn back to see The Stranger again but he, the body of that theif, and the other two hooded men are gone.

"There you are! What happened to that thief? Did you get your coin purse back?" Trista asks in a concerned tone.

"I told you he'd be fine, Randal can handle himself if were to come to a fight." Tyrel says in an argumenative voice.

"Oh shut up, I was just worried that's all. So what happened Randal, are you okay?"

>"I'm fine, the thief got away though, but I did manage to get my coin purse back."
>"Yeah, but that thief clocked me a good one and ran off, luckily he dropped my coin purse."
>"Eh, nothing special, just caught up to the thief, pulled my dagger on him and 'politely' convinced him to give me my coin purse back, afterwords I let him go."

This one seems to be good, given we were punched at least.

"Yeah, but that thief clocked me a good one and ran off, luckily he dropped my coin purse." you say rubbing your cheeck.

"Heheheh, you let some common thief get the better of you?" Trista giggles. Tyrel is also chuckling quietly behind her.

"Hey shut up, he was hiding around the corner waiting for me, besides I still got my coin purse back so it doesn't matter."

"Whatever you say, but I'm glad you're okay, you had me worried there for a minute." Trista says pulling out her handkercheif and rubbing the spot where you got punched. "There, all better."

"Thanks Trista," you say, Trista has always been very nice to you, unlike the way she is with her brother or any other men her age, but she a'ways cared for you like an older sister, even though you're older than her and Tyrel by 2 months. You never really put much thought into it, maybe it just because you both grew up together.

"Man, its getting kinda late now isn't it? We should head back to our houses and get ready for the ceremony tonight, it won't be long now." Tyrel states.

You had completely forgotten how much time had past, now that you look up to the sky you see that the sun is just barely starting to set, the ceremony is supposed to begin when the sun completely sets.

"Oh crap, we better get going then!" you exclaim.

--------------------------------------------------------
Later
--------------------------------------------------------

You arrive at the palace, this time by carriage and with you father. You step out to see the familar courtyard, unlike before however it is bustling with noise and excitement, its not everyday that three young nobles from the five great houses take part in the ceremony. Mostly its just nobles from some of the inumerable lesser noble houses that partake in the annual ceremony. So it makes sense that there is a higher turnout this year, not just one but two great noble houses are having members come of age.

"May I present the young Lord Randal Tallstag of Northwind Castle!" you hear a hearld proclaim as you walk up from your carriage to the main entrance of the palace. His proclamation is followed by great cheers from behind you, you turn to see a massive crowd behind the carriages, most of them commoners, the lords and ladies of the lesser houses are inside the palace already. You wave cheerfully to the crowd and walk inside, followed closely by your father.

"I'm proud of you son, I've waited for this day for a long time now, I wish your mother was here to see this." he says patting you on the back cheerfully.

"I wish she was here too," you say solemnly.

"Hey now, don't get all distraught, you should be happy, and who knows perhaps you'll bed one of the ladies tonight, I know I did when I-"

"Father, I'd rather not hear about your 'conquests' again" you say instantly.

"Hahaha very well, but I'm going to introduce you to some beautiful ladies who have been eager to meet you, so no ducking out on me after the ceremony alright?" he says with a chuckle.

"Hahahah, alright father, I promise," you say with a smile as you walk into the grand ballroom.

Inside the ballroom there are tables set everywhere, with servants going to a fro, taking prders and handing out wine and finger foods. There are many lords and ladies, both young and old talking, laughing, gossiping, and the like. That is until they notice you. The room goes silent as all eyes turn to you.

You start to sweat and get nervous you don't know what to say except the first thing that comes to mind.

"Hello, everyone, don't mind m-"

"Hey its my good friend Randal Tallstag!" you hear a woman's voice yell. A redheaded woman comes up to you and hugs you. "Everyone Randal Tallstag is my friend, treat him with honor and respect as you would me, now back to your drinks and merrymaking!"

Now you recognize that woman, its Trista, but she's let her hair down and changed into a beautiful dress and even added makeup to her face, you honestly didn't recognize her.

"Wow Trista, I hardly recognized you. You look great!"

"Why thank you Lord Tallstag." she says with a grin "See? I don't always look like the tomboy you grew up with, huh?"

"Yeah you look amazing."

"You got here a bit late," you hear Tyrel as he walks up to you. "The ceremony is going to start in a few moments so we won't get to chat long. Besides we need to go to the center of the room with the others before the King shows to start the ceremony.

You and Trista both agree and head to the center of the room with the other young lords and ladies that are coming of age, you mingle for a few more minutes before the King shows up and the trumpets sound.

When the King and his family enter, everyone bows and as he heads to the stage in front of you he signals for everyone to rise. He is followed shortly by what looks to be an Elderly man with a staff and lasrge box in hand.

The King then begins his speech.

Alright calling it a night here. Hope everyone enjoyed my first run. I'll hang around for a bit to answer questions.

Thoughts, questions and criticisms are welcome.

Holy fuck just realized it's not archived any special tags you want?
>>
>>39538590
nah just the quest title should be good
>>
>>39538608
Archived here : http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Will%20of%20Ice%20Quest

I hope the description is to your liking
>>
>>39538669
Hey thanks anon! I greatly appreciate it! I was actually having trouble trying to archive this. And I like the description, kudos to you.
>>
>>39538728
No problem, it's fairly easy once you figure out thread number would be in the URL
> 39529364

so you just do that the quest title and tags and you're good to go.
>>
>>39538796
ah okay, so you don't have to do that bit about saving the page and such?
>>
>>39538831
Well you can but this is alot easier the site finds the thread and archives it rather than you having to put all that shit in yourself. You're basically just pointing it to what you want archived.
>>
>>39538885
ah that clears things up, thanks again!
>>
>>39538119
This is getting fairly interesting. My only complaint is that i wish I wasn't so tired that I skim through it. There are a few grammatical errors that you've already noted, so my suggestion is to type all your posts out in a word processor, and then copy and paste it to post. Otherwise, your style seems to flow well, and especially being a first time QM, you seem to getting the hang of saying what you want. It also helps that while we can have choices, you do have a clear idea of what should be happening and can present a good narrative.
>inb4 you don't see any of this.
>>
>>39539336
Don't worry anon, I see it. And thank you, I was honestly really nervous about fucking up,and I've been typing in notebook but it has no spell check, so I need to get Microsoft office on this computer of mine.

I'm glad you enjoy the narrative. I honestly felt my writing was so-so, I really appreciate the feedback.
>>
>>39539386
Abiword or LibreOffice are free for Windows~ Abiword is also really resource light, so it's a nice utility. I have it on a bunch of low end/Late 90's computers.

>I honestly felt my writing was so-so
Well, I won't say that you're Shakespeare, but you're certainly not bad at all. Helps that you have a clear way of writing, you describe the important events of what's going on. I think my only suggestions otherwise are, if possible, describe actions instead of merely having dialogue, and break up your sentences a little better.

>"Everyone Randal Tallstag is my friend, treat him with honor and respect as you would me, now back to your drinks and merrymaking!"
to
>"Everyone Randal Tallstag is my friend. Treat him with honor and respect as you would me! Now, back to your drinks and merrymaking!"

At least, that's how I would have written it. Short declarative statement followed by two short commands. I might even suggest that the final command isn't necessary, you could replace it with actions from the nobles responding.

>The nobles smile and you make eye contact with everyone briefly. As you do, they turn to mingle amongst themselves once more.

I feel like I'm a shitty writer, but I figure another viewpoint can't hurt too much. And if you think something's unfounded, feel free to address or ignore it. I'm up for criticism as well.
>>
>>39539521
That actually reads a lot better. Thanks for the advice. I'm really glad to have people interested in my story so far, I can't wait for Saturday.

I'll probably end up running earlier than expected.

Also, are there any questions you might have?
>>
>>39539521
>Fucking up the grammar in your own revision
I knew I was a shitty writer

>"Everyone, Randal Tallstag is my friend." etc

Makes it much more natural to have a pause/breath to get attention.
>>
>>39539582
Actually yes; Is this a homebrew setting of yours, or is it based on something I should know? And if it's homebrew, where did you get the ideas from? It seems more fleshed out than any world I could try to build. Mine usually stop at characters, no cities or culture really.
>>
>>39539616
Its homebrewed, and for Ideas I pulled from a lot pf sources, but I'd have to day Game of Thrones, LOTR, the Hobbit, D&D, and The Elder Scrolls series.

I really enjoyed world building for this and I'd say that's what I spent most of my time on. In the next few threads I hope to really expand the setting and the world/lore, but I might get carried away with it so I'll probably leave a lot of it for you guys to decide on.
>>
>>39539664
Cool. Having never read nor seen GoT/ASOIAF related media, the rest usually mix well and can still be a fresh experience. Looking forward to it, Chills! See you next thread~
>>
>>39539691
Thanks again anon for all the help, see you Saturday!
