You are Kusajishi Riku.

Your long-time friend and mentor Shihōin Yoruichi has taught you her personal technique: the Shunkō, which amplifies your speed and physical strength to much greater levels than you could reach otherwise. It nearly came at the cost of your life, but to your mutual relief you finally managed to create your own version of the technique.

Now, you've moved on to the next task. After many years of practice, you've managed to manifest Tenkotsuki, the spirit of your Zanpakuto, into the physical world. She looks over the underground training room with a vague air of disdain.

“What a dreadful place,” she muses, tails swishing through the air just above the dirt. Seems she doesn't want to get dust in their fur. “I take it we are here so that our training can remain secret?”

You offer a slight but respectful bow. “That's right. Sorry 'bout the dust.”

“It matters little. In fact, it may be for the best, given what I am about to demand of you.”

Before you can ask, Tenkotsuki produces a large bluish-purple gemstone from her sleeve. It's about the size of a glass eye, and perfectly smooth and spherical. It's quite a pretty little trinket which she rolls casually between her fingers.

“This is called a Hoshi no Tama,” she explains. “In it I have sealed a substantial portion of my power, which allows me to generate the effects of your last two Shikai techniques when it is in my possession. However, taking possession of it yourself will allow you use of Bankai.”

So... she's saying that to use Bankai you need to take that ball away from her. You can only assume she's not going to make that easy.

Does the Shunko (And in extension, the Soko Shunko or whatever the one that uses Blut is called) count as an external expression of spiritual power? Would we be able to use it with the antimagic field bankai? Because that would be cool as fuck.

“May I please have it?” you ask with a smirk. Surely it can't be that easy.

To your surprise Tenkotsuki reaches out, as if to deposit the orb into your waiting hands... only to flicker quickly into your space, pressing a hand against your chest. A black ball of energy materializes there, along with eight similar balls of dancing, flame-like darkness in a circle around you. You recognize the technique as Bakudō 79: Kuyō Shibari. It's a very powerful spell, and the highest level you know.

With a confident little smirk of her own she tucks her Hoshi no Tama into her kimono, then draws your sword from its sheath before darting back. She now holds a pair of transformed blades, each a kodachi like the one you use in Shikai.

“You may have asked nicely,” Tenkotsuki replies casually, “but that will not work. Not this time.”

“You took my sword,” you observe calmly. “I like that sword.”

Tenkotsuki allows the binding spell to fade as she stares you down. “The fangs you bare at me are my own. I could not allow that, you see.”

Well then, you suppose that settles things. She's not going to let you use any of her techniques against her, neither the blade itself nor the enhancements they give to your kidō. That's not a problem though. Your have a nice, two-word reply ready for your sword: “Sōkō Shunkō.”

The sensation of this technique is still new to you, its power surging through your body with a loud roar. Your muscles feel more powerful, your body lighter, and your spiritual energy more violent.

“This is my first time seeing it,” Tenkotsuki muses. “Do not disappoint me, my dear Riku.”
(1/2)
>>
Is Riku a werewolf?
>>
>>39530941
The exchange of blows is as vicious as it is quick. A powerful kick is parried by one of Tenkotsuki's blades, and a riposte is smacked aside by one of your kidō-empowered hands, nearly wrenching it from your sword's grasp. As hard as you try you can't seem to pin her down: her speed is nearly as great as yours and her strength is phenomenal. It's almost like when you try to punch her, she's already gone.

She crosses her kodachi as you dash towards her, a toothy grin on her face. “Hadō 32: Ōkasen!”

The cross-shaped arcs of light are as powerful as your own spells would be in Shikai, and one arm of the “X” clips your left leg as you dodge the attack. It shreds part of your uniform and leaves a small gash in your shin, but the blood loss seems minimal.

If that works, it has some serious synergy.

When our options are exhausted in shikai form, activate bankai and soko shunko and just go for the brute force method. It basically negates the major drawback of the bankai: Riku isn't retardedly OP at hand-to-hand. With that combo, the bankai not only dicks over the ability of the foe to use external attacks, but massively boosts Riku's own ability to wreck face.

You maintain your Sōkō Shunkō, the constant cycling of energy making it feel almost effortless to do so, and wait for your opponent to attack. Your intent was to use Takigoi to create an opening, but that's not exactly what happened.

A swing of Tenkotsuki's blades comes down from your right, and you catch her wrist. A second swing comes from the opposite side, which you block with your foot... but instead of catching her wrist as you'd intended, it's her blade that cuts into your shoe.

“Tenran!” Tenkotsuki shouts, the sword at your foot channeling the powerful hadō through its blade. You're sent spinning out of control through the air by the force of the blasting, kidō-laden winds of your Zanpakuto's attack until you slam heavily into a boulder. Those are getting fewer and further between after all the training you've been doing down here lately.

As you stagger to your feet, Tenkotsuki frowns at you. “What's wrong, my dear, sweet Riku? Do not tell me that's all you can manage without my help? Because if it is, you will never learn my Bankai.”

Your body is holding up well, all things considered. The force of those cuts and kidō blasts must have been reduced by your own techniques, which would probably have killed most seated officers outright. You hate to think about what might've happened if you weren't so fast and tough.

While you may be able to grind out a win like this, it's equally possible Tenkotsuki's going to end up wearing you down instead.

Gotcha boss.
However, I'm gonna have to put it on record that it might be difficult for those votes to gain any sort of coherence & traction, and thus any chances of winning.

Since it requires 1) an idea of what the spell could do, 2) putting a bit of thought in applying it and 3) for players voting on Kidou options to agree with one another.
It would take a while for those said votes to filter in compared to instant copy/paste green-text voting.
It's also exacerbated by the fast posting turn-out and above average amount of players. Not really a problem, but in the time it takes to do so, there's already 3-5 greentext votes before it.

I'll try to think up of suggestions to lessen the need to do the equivalent of write-ins whenever the option of using kidou is presented, or at least make them a vote option as enticing as face stabbing.
>>
>>39532318
I think what it would be is that this whole time, we're worried, and he starts to bring it up and hint at it in a conversation and Riku is slowly freaking the fuck out and screaming internally then the Old Man just give us a flat look and hands up a pair of sandals.

“That sword,” you growl, finally tiring of this game of tag.

Tenkotsuki eyes you warily. “This sword... what?”

A burst of movement eats up the distance between you and that pesky vixen of a sword of yours, and your hands dip into your pale blue sash to fish out the knives Yoruichi gave you. You fling them as you get closer, and Tenkotsuki's eyes widen as she rushes to parry them. Which is exactly what you wanted.

You know how you'd parry them with your own sword, which means you know where she'll move. A second hirenkyaku carries you behind her even as the storm of flying daggers overshoots her. Your hand finds the hilt of your sword even as she raises it to parry the last of the weapons, and one of them sinks into your shoulder.

“It's not just yours!” you cry, smashing your sheath into Tenkotsuki's wrist. For a moment her grasp of your sword eases, and that moment's all you need.

Breathing heavily and bleeding a little from your self-inflicted wound, you stare Tenkotsuki down as she turns to face you where you now stand. You managed a third hirenkyaku just in the nick of time to get clear of her retaliatory strike, and now she's looking you over with renewed interest.

“You placed your own body in the path of the daggers,” she observes. “You're even crazier than I gave you credit for.”

“Never sell me short,” you shoot back with a grin. “Now, I'll be taking that ball of yours.”

“Get ready.”

So does anyone else want to ask the Captain Commander to spar/train for a day or two after we become captain? It would be the most hilarious situation for the sandal thing to come out (and it would be good for Riku to have a goal to chase besides Yoruichi and Kiske strength wise).

Hehehe... Byakurai on any throwing knives sticking into the ground near Tenko-sama.

That bakudo option was really tempting though. Either it's a two-fold incantation, or a lower tier spell continuing on to a better version of it.

>>39532521
No, it isn't, at this point she is aware we are willing to risk injuring ourself purposefully. And even if she does stab us it doesn't mean she is at a disadvantage, be aware that she can cast kido through the sword unincanted. That is a VERY bad day.

Match each one she casts for a time, until she tries to show her superiority by performing one we aren't good enough to perform. Act like we are going to attempt it but once we start to call out its name use one of the syllables in the hado's name to lead into a bakudo instead. You take up a solid stance, drawing energy into your hands. “Ye Lord, mask of blood and flesh, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man!”

Tenkotsuki knows that incantation, and rushes to set up a countermeasure. “Bakudō 44: Sekisho!”

A circular barrier of energy springs into existence in front of your Zanpakuto, who must realize that even for her the un-incanted barrier may not be sufficient to stop a fully incanted spell from you in your present form. At least, not without weakening the barrier to a subsequent assault with Shunkō. “On the wall of blue flame, inscribe a twin lotus. In the abyss of conflagration, wait at the far heavens.”

You continue the incantation as your Zanpakuto chants the incantation to Sekisho to ensure it's at maximum strength, pouring even more energy into it. However, you don't let her finish. A hirenkyaku lets you leave an image of yourself behind as Tenkotsuki continues to chant.

The assault takes Tenkotsuki off guard: with your first movement you charged her, and managed to take her back. You continue by casting a Rikujōkōrō to bind her, followed by a furious series of punches that are enough to shatter your own spell under their power. As you reach out to grab for the stone orb, you see Tenkotsuki's blade swinging upwards towards your ribs... you have time to dodge it, but you're so CLOSE...

That is a poor excuse.

If we die, we die.

If we lost a limb we probably couldnt get it back that way.

When given the option between taking damage and outright avoiding it, there really shouldnt be a choice.

What we gain by just sitting here and getting shanked is nothing that we cant obtain by taking a step back, not getting hit, and just beaten her down until we get a better opening.

And if we DONT get the orb on this, we are likely going to be either too hurt to fight, or at an extreme disadvantage, which will lead to not getting a bankai any time soon.

It's not like we were rolling against an 8+. If it was against a high DC I'd be freaking the fuck out over how good the rolls were, as it stands I'm just disappointed.

She WANTS to keep us at a distance because she seems to be fairly shit-tier in melee, backing off would just accomplish her immediate goal.

You ignore the sword, instead swinging your own sword at Tenkotsuki. With a ripping sound it tears through her kimono, sending the orb tumbling free into the air. You catch it, and it feels strangely heavy in your hands. It's warm, too, as if heated from a secret fire within that makes it sparkle in the light. Tenkotsuki's blade buries itself deep into your side, cutting several inches before lodging itself in place.

Strange, neither of you are bleeding. And it doesn't hurt... you thought getting cut down was supposed to hurt?

“Of course it does not hurt,” Tenkotsuki muses quietly, apparently noticing the look of disbelief on your face as she withdraws her sword from your side. The wound begins to slowly close, like the memory of a nightmare fading away in the morning. “I told you once before, did I not? I am your pride, Riku, and my power is your own.”

“Did you truly think that your own power could harm you? That you had to be afraid of it? What a fool you are, my sweet Riku.”

You're not sure what to say, looking down at the sphere in your hand. You took it from her. You won. So why don't you feel happier about it?

“Our Bankai is called Higeki no Ōjo. It will bring ruin down upon those who would call themselves our enemies. Use it sparingly... I fear if too many know of it, its power will be diminished. And by the love of all that is holy, take good care of that orb.”

“Yours is likely the only three-part Zanpakuto in existence,” she continues, “at least in Bankai. Your blade, sheath which will become a second sword with a lacquered handle, and the orb.”

As she finishes her explanation, you quietly press the orb back into her hands. “It belongs to both of us,” you tell her. “I'll tell you when I need it.”

After a few moments where she seems surprised, Tenkotsuki smiles warmly at you. “Thank you, Riku. When we are in harmony like this, I will do nothing to hinder you. My sorcery and my Bankai are at your disposal, so long as your pride can be upheld. On this you have my word.”

“Thank you, Tenkotsuki,” you reply, sheathing your sword and bowing.

“Think nothing of it, Mistress,” she bows deeply in return. “I leave my powers and pride in your capable hands.”

As you stagger out into the fresh air and blinding sunshine, you're left to wonder exactly how long you were down in that hole for. You're a bit peckish, and your clothes are currently a mess. Burns all over the place, mud and dust here and there, and some blood here and there.

With a lazy hirenkyaku you find yourself back in civilization, nearly tripping over two imposing-looking men: both of them are Captains, you realize. One is the silvery-haired leader of Ninth Division, and the other is Kyōraku from Eighth in that ridiculous pink kimono he always wears. The latter is in the process of handing a stack of papers to the former when he notices you and waves.

“Lil' miss Commander! Hey, long time no see!”

You bow politely. “Captains.”

“Kusajishi, wasn't it? You're filthy,” Captain Muguruma observes. “Were you just training?”

“Yeah... could you do me a favor, sir?”

“I'm listening,” the man nods.

“Could you maybe tell me what day it is? I might've lost track of time.”

“My, how hard-working! Betcha get along great with my Lieutenant!” Shunsui exclaims. “As it happens, it's currently Wednesday... how long were you training?”

“Since Monday,” you grimace. Sounds like you were unconscious for longer than you thought when Yoruichi blew you up.

Muguruma raises an eyebrow. “Sounds like you could use something to eat. I'll buy.”

“I'll have to take my leave, sorry!” Captain Kyōraku bows apologetically, that smile never leaving his face. “Perhaps next time?”

The other Captain nods. “Sure. I'm looking forward to it.”

Not sure whether it's even possible to say no to a Captain buying you lunch, let alone advisable, you follow Captain Muguruma to an out-of-the-way restaurant specializing in Szechuan.

"Everything to your liking?" Muguruma asks you somewhat anxiously, the table having been filled with bowls of rice and platters of tea-smoked duck, pepper-laden chicken, and tofu with a spicy red sauce.

You nod excitedly, this is practically a feast! "Sure is, sir... though I can't help but wonder..."

"Why I'm treating you..." he replies gruffly. "Of course that wasn't gonna work. I'll be honest."

Muguruma sets the manuscript Shunsui handed hum on the table in front of you. "Please take a look at this."

You flip through the pages in between bites, reading it over: it's a romance novel, you note. Somewhat formulaic in nature, with a good-natured and dashing samurai with a pink kimono saving a stern ice-princess of a noblewoman... named Risa.

Oh. Oh good lord, he can't have.

Looking it over again reveals that you haven't misread it: this is a poorly-written and thinly-veiled love story about Shunsui and his Lieutenant.

"I can't just shoot another Captain down," Muguruma mutters darkly, "but I can't actually print THAT, either. But I need to fill the pages somehow... which means I need someone to write something good enough that I can postpone publishing this crap."

You can't help it, this is too much. Laughing like a maniac, you damn near choke on a pepper. But it's too hysterical to stop, and Kensei's reaction is just the icing on the damn cake.

“I don't care what you write, just fill pages and keep filling 'em!” he insists, taking your laughter to be a rejection. “I'll even pay you for it, just don't make me publish this crap!”

“It's fine,” you insist, struggling to breathe. “I'll write an article on the Shinsengumi and the Tennen Rishin Ryu for you, to put this thing off for a while at least.”

“Oh, thank the...”

“But I'm taking the manuscript,” you continue. “Couple friends of mine could use a good laugh.”

Captain Muguruma waves you off. “That's fine, you can hold onto it. You've done me a solid, Lieutenant Kusajishi, and I won't forget it.”

After your meal is complete you part ways with the Captain, who seems immensely relieved to have avoided publishing Kyōraku's self-insert novella, and head back to your barracks. You quickly change out of your damaged uniform, and see to it that your sash is kept spotless, before reporting back to Yoruichi.

She greets you with a calm smile from her little throne-like seat on the floor. “Good to see you're back. Any news, hm? Something exciting and sword-related, perhaps?”

You toss Shunsui's manuscript to her. “What's this?”

“Just read it,” you insist.

Your Captain flips through the pages one at a time, as a look of absolute dismay creeps across her features. Each page brings new horrors, each cheesy one liner a faint retching sound. “This is... horrid. Riku, how I envy your lack of literary exposure.”

Okita is brought up in Riku's mind.
>>
>>39535159
Sure acts like a 12 y/o, just uses bigger words.

Forcing it rarely helps until you've let the ideas percolate a little.
And I've tried writing by dictation. I have no idea why anybody doesn't hate it.

>>39535144
It was so difficult, too. It took us a whole, what, two days?
>>
>>39535043
she exists only to fuck Yoruichi

I wonder if we will run into Okita. Queen did say we could meet in soul society.

Yeah I'm of the same mindset. If she and Kisuke need help we'd be there at the drop of a hat. I would like to make other friends and acquaintances though. Hell I wouldn't mind sharing some drinks with Aizen or Isshin being blissfuly ignorant of future events.

>Okita pens our reflections of the Bakumatsu period and Shinsengumi, including his own role in events while seeing just how much Riku had watched over the situation and was forced to let it run its course despite having the info to heavily influence the outcome of the conflict.

You know the continual petulance about this is tiresome, right?
>>

They're being faggots/trolls, Just ignore them
>>
>>39535272
Just ignore and report them everytime they shit post about it.
>>
>>39535272
Yes.
>>

I couldn't care less about the yuri.

some anons waifu too hard for my tastes
>>
>>39535266
>Captain
*Lieutenant
>you'd been
*you've been

Damnit. I guess that's my cue to grab something to eat.
>>
>>39535272
I don't even hate yuri but the yoruichi fixation is a clearly a little too intense
>>
>>39535359
eeeh i'm fine with it myself but if we're gonna do it i want it to be a slow build, not just some insta-sex bullshit.
>>
>>39535359
Yeah, I definitely agree it's annoying.
>>
>>39535317
>>39535359
I don't even care about the romance stuff but this whole 'let's become captain of the Xth' sounds stupid as fuck to me. I don't mind separating from Yoruichi plot-wise but only to follow a plot-hook or personal goal we reach naturally.
>>
>>39535398
Didn't Yoruichi tell us it was likely we'd get moved to a different division at some point? Like it was just last thread?
>>
>>39535359
I think you're projecting, if anons refuse to follow actual hooks or storylines or something because of her, or constantly stick to her even when we have reasons not to, it's one thing. Not wanting to entertain some random 'let's do this!' idea brought up by random anons does not indicate a fixation.
>>
>>39535398
EXACTLY character progression NEEDS TO BE NATURAL not meta-gamey
>>
>>39535420
they'll be an abundance of openings in the near future

we might even get to chose

and IIRC 2nd division and stealth force are separate bodies so we could just run that.
>>
Rolled 2 (1d2)

>>39535272
So it seems like an even split, and both could go in interesting directions. Letting the dice fall where they may.

>>39535359
>>39535396
You do realize she's Riku's Captain, right? As in, the person you report to directly and take orders from?
>>
>>39535468
If 2 is an option, our dice will hit it.
>>
>>39535468
I was complaining more about anons' fixation then your writing.
>>
>>39535468
Is it required that captains are the only person their underling cares about?
>>
>>39535468
Yeah, I know I like Yoruichi but the yuri fixation on her is irritating.
>>
>>39535468
GOD. DAMN. the lucky number shows up AGAIN.
>>
Rolled 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2, 1, 1 = 40 (25d2)

>>

you fired first anon.

I'm not even a yurifag idiot, Yet it's clear to see that you lot are trying to stir up shit
>>
>>39535544
>>39535553
from the looks of things you're seriously trying to start shit both of you
>>
So... Once we're a captain, what kind of Lt do you think we'd have?
>>
>>39535571
>>39535561
dropping the subject now.
>>
>>39535596
.....Uh.......A dead Shinsengumi member maybe?
>>
>>39535596
I think we'll get the cannon ones, or whoever we displace as captain
>>
>>39535596
If we take over a division? Whatever fuckin' LT. we want. Why wouldn't we pick?
>>
>>39535596
I was thinking probably soy phone if Yoruichi leaves but I get the feeling she would probably find some way to blame us and might try to kill us in our sleep.
>>
>>39535571
As much as I hate weighing in on this I tend to agree with this anon. Could we try not to roll this mess over into the new thread in a few minutes?

I don't wanna pop off on someone tonight, but with the day I've had I've already come close. So let's all just cool it, okay?

Don't worry man, there are some of us here who just want to help tell the story.
heh captcha: msery
>>
>>39535628
Well it would be bound to the Division we get, if we are in the 5th we wouldnt have the same type of underlings as we would in the 12th.

So while it is our choice, we are limited by where we end up, who joins where, and who is actually strong enough to warrant being a lieutenant.
>>
>>39535720
I just hope it's some one Tenkotsuki disapproves of, for shenanigans

New thread is live >>39535743

Please ignore the trolls trolling trolls trolling trolls. You are a great QM and I would hate to see you in any way discouraged by the usual shit-stirrers
>>
>>39535667
As someone who hasn't weighed in on either side today just realize there are some of us who are trying to be considerate and not derail the quest even if we feel strongly on the subject.

You write the characters well and I'd like us to interact with as many as we meaningfully can without having to worry about waifu's or other such nonsense.
>>
>>39535766
>criticism is shit stirring

u-anti u fags are annoying shits to be sure
