Ow. You hurt. You hurt before you realize you're still alive to hurt. You come back to consciousness hurting. Your world is apparently hurting again.

It takes you a minute to remember why that was. The culprit you recall was a stupid bird, and certainly not your own disregard to being set on fire. Stupid birds. You're pretty sure you murdered the hell out of that bird at least.

"Awake little one?" a familiar voice asks.

It appears auntie is half wrapped around you. Neither of you are covered in sticky poisonous gunk. That's a good sign.

"Your mother put me in charge of watching you since she couldn't stick you to the floor with all your injuries."

That answers that!

"Hey."

"Heys to you too, little one."

"I have a name," you say, trying not to moan piteously. You feel like you've been rolled over a fire made of spikes.

"I heards. It's a very nice name, little one," auntie nods.

You narrow your eyes at her. "You are doings that on purpose," you grumble.

"Doings what, little one?" Auntie asks, a mischevious sparkle.

"You won't call me that when I'm as big as mom."

"We'll see."

There's a pause, and you listen. You can hear the scrabblings noise that usually indicates your siblings moving en masse in the next room. It's accompanied by the soft groaning of the house you're learning to associate with mom resettling her bulk. Something nearby stinks of healer. You try to get your feet under you to move to see what's going on but your limbs kindly tell you to that if you want to move you're going to have to be a snake.

"I hurt."

"That's understandable," auntie says reasonably, "You're fairly injured. Kuru went to get more medicine. Somone apparently found a way to get themself set on fire in the middle of the swamp. Multiple times, I'm told."

"You say that like is hard," you scoff weakly. "You should see the other guy."

"I think I did," Auntie says, looking a bit green.

"Was there anything left? I wanted it."

Auntie just rolls her eyes.

"How'd I get home? And when did you get home."

"I dragged you and your younger brother home," auntie explains.

"Jho?"

"Who is Jho?"

"The smallest brother," you explain.

"No the other one. I don't think he has a name yet."

"Besides 'stupid,'" you grunt.

Auntie very carefully neither agrees or disagrees with that. Somewhere on the other side of auntie you hear someone make a hurt noise. The emotional kind of hurt. You're the only one making phsyically hurt noises.

>Investi- er, ask what the noise was

"Who was that?" you ask.

Auntie carefully picks you up, which still hurts, and rolls over, depositing you on the ground in front of a wall. It's tastefully decorated with the stuff you remember plus one lizard bro caked in purple crap.

"Welcomes back," you say to him.

"'m not stupid," he grumbles. He looks like he's having a rough day. Actually from here you can see the window, looks like early morning. You were out for a while. So a rough day and some.

"He's just upset that he didn't get nearly as far as he thought,' auntie tells you.

"He walked in a circle?" you ask. You remember auntie warning you about how that could happen.

"He walked in six circles, and crossed his own path a dozen tiems," auntie grumbles, "that made tracking him very hard."

"You found him?"

"Him and a few other things," Auntie nods, "Though I tied with your father for finding him first." She sees the look you're giving her and continues defensively. "It's true! He's not completely useless. He just refuses to stand up to anyone he thinks is important."

Huh. You wouldn't have expected that.

"I explode now," you tell auntie.

"That's a quick subject change," she comments, "Also scary. Should we be keeping you in the house?" she asks jovially.

You try to shrug but your shoulders are having none of it, so you stick to talking. "If I'm not glowing and on fire you're probably fine. I should probably see the witch though since it makes me burn."

Auntie nods."If that's what you want to do. Though I think your mother intends to keep you close until you have fewer holes in you than she has eyes."

You sniff, then regret it when the smell of medicine fills your nose. "How many do I have now?"

"How many did those birds have after you were done with them?"

"None?" you offer, "Fire doesn't make holes."

"Wait, birds? Like more than one?"

"You killed most of a flock of chickens."

"But there was only one. The rest ran away," you say, confused. "Wait, did the red rooster turn into a bunch of smaller roosters when I blasted it to bits?!" You don't remember killing tiny versions but things get fuzzy around the part where you caught on fire.

"What? No. Chickens do not run far. They will stop to watch from a 'safe' distance. Their safe distance did not put them out of range of your fire so you got some of them," auntie explains.

You're kind of glad things don't explode into tiny versions of themselves when you kill them. Though that would have been kind of cool.

"I've only ever seen mushroom monsters make little versions of themselves when you hurt them. Maybe a slime did that once," she starts talking to herself as she thinks, "That may have just been a lot of little slimes in a clump though."

You listen politely as auntie muses, putting in the occasional word or question to get her on track and she begins telling you about the time her, mom, and Dad got mixed up with slimes. Eventually you notice mom has pushed the other siblings into the room and is sitting halfway into it herself listening. You get the impression Auntie likes telling stories.

Kuru shows up a couple hours later, the story having evolved so she covered the backstory and she has just started into the aftermath.

"So there we are the next morning when Kuru comes for breakfast and to see how the whole thing wents," Auntie says with amusement, "And she finds yours truly clinging to the cieling trying to brush off the gooey bastards that followed me up, your mom and Uncle Jho rollings and thrashings around in a mass of slimes, trying to eats her way out, your uncle Gan has burrowed into the ground and is breathing through a reed, and your dad still frozen to the wall by all the slimes he hit with the spell. And Kuru just looks at the mess, ignores our cries for help, and walks back out. It was the cruelest betrayal of my young life," she says, her eyes sparkling with mirth as Kuru sets out the medicines she brought with her.

"I came back!" Kuru protests, "I came back with a big bag of salt and cleaned out the lot!"

Auntie nods and adds, "So Kuru came back and started throwing salt everywhere, and the little things just pops like blisters. Slime goo everywhere! We spent ten minutes chipping frozen slime off your dad." she laughs to herself, "And that's why I always carry an extra bag of salt with my seasonings."

"And how we learned not to walk home in the rain with a bag of fresh tree slimes after spending all day poking at said slimes for fun," mom adds.

"Kuru is smart," you say, bobbing your head with approval.

Your family quickly agrees, and Kuru looks slightly bashful at the attention. That doesn't stop her from dragging you aside and lathering you with horrible smelling medicines.

"Kuru always knows what's going on," auntie says sagely. "She's one of the best touchstones for news around. Speaking of..." Auntie looks at Kuru patiently and Kuru rolls her eyes.

"The fish are getting rowdy again," she finally says. Mom looks interested but Kuru shakes her head. "The watch head wants to try and press them back without you, Kasha. They got this way because they somehow figured out you were up north. He thinks we should demonstrate that just because you're always willing to crack heads doesn't mean we need to rely on you."

Mom looks conflicted at that. You get the feeling she's really like to 'crack heads' but at the same time wants to hang around and watch your siblings. She seems to resolve her long struggle after a long look at you and middle bro.

Kuru divvies out what other news she has and you start to lose interest and doze in the afternoon light until auntie shrieks.

"What do you mean Wasem is out for my head? I haven't even done anything!"

"He says you stole his hat and poisoneds the youth against him," Kuru explains. She's about to explain the rest of the story when Auntie points angrily at mom.

"You means THAT hat, no?!" Oh she was pointing at mom's hat. Mom touches the brim of it to make sure it's still in place and resettles herself, apparently enjoying the spectacle. "Why am I being accuseds of hat theft when I don't even get the hat-related spoils?!"

Kuru manages to get out the story of the priest's visit yesterday, and auntie just gets more angry.

>>
>>39536124
"I didn't steals his hat! If anyone stoles his hat it was probably the little one, no?" she says gesturing at you. You put on your most innocent face and anyone who sees it immediately suspects auntie is correct. You may need to work on your innocent face. You switch to your adorable face and that at least gets eye rolls and attention off you.

"I notices you didn't say anything against the 'poisonings a generation against him' part," Mom observes in her normal whisper.

Auntie shrugs. "Would anyone believe me if I denied it?"

A chorus of "no" answers her, starting with Mom and Kuru, then passing through you and your siblings. Then added to by your dad as he walks in the door. Auntie looks especially affronted at the betrayal of you and your siblings.

"What am I disagreeing with?" your dad asks, as he puts his ceremonial wear and his stick away. He's quickly brought up to speed and then dies laughing when Mom gets to the part where auntie says she might not have been spouting anti-priest rhetoric.

The medicine you're covered in must have had something in it though as you pass out shortly after.

How to spend the recovery period?

In the next few days you find out very quickly that being injured sucks. Being injured with a mom that is sick of you randomly endangering yourself/setting yourself on fire also sucks. You end up spending anytime not playing with your siblings hanging with middle bro. Literally.

Thankfully Auntie comes to the rescue. She doesn't get you down, but she realizes that you and your brother are a captive audience who hasn't heard any of her stories. Which you'd be perfectly willing to listen to when you WEREN'T walled but she only offers when you are. You suspect she may just be keeping an eye on you in case you try to escape. She was incredibly frustratingly in the way of your attempts to escape at any rate.

Mom apparently noticed that when you do your glowing it precursors to your being on fire and is quick to stop you from setting yourself ablaze again. Magic time gets relegated to night time. Where you glow anyway. Time carefully spent trying not to go off like a fire cracker pays off in the form of figuring out why you glow, sort of. Something about night time just pulls at the murky grit in your well of power and pulls it into the surrounding 'material' for lack of a better word. Somehow this equals glowing. You do work out that it's easier to mess with your magic at night since it apparently wants out anyway.
[1/2]
>>
>>39536843
[2/2]
You try discussing your findings with Dad but he's mystified. He gives you a brief rundown of his experience with magic, of pulling it in, twisting it just right, and letting it out in spell shape with the right word. And how doing any part of that wrong doesn't get you any magic. You fail to follow him utterly since you mostly just push on the power stored in you and get results. Dad ends up more busy quietly testing your other siblings for magical ability. Jho, surprisingly, ends up most likely to be magic. Though some of dad's tests are kind of suspect. You're not sure what balancing a rock on your head has to do with magic but you could probably do it all day. If it weren't a heavy rock.

You get results though. Results like last night, the last night of your recovery, where you succeded in not setting yourself on fire. You pressed all your power out at once and nearly burned a hole in the everything around you. And for a couple seconds the world around you was on fire, and when it ended, it was still on fire, but you weren't. You call that progress. Even better you somehow managed to scooch under Mom's radar and she didn't catch you and wall you.

Tomorrow you get to go see a witch

>Tonight you don't get anymore. I'm going to go plan some stuff. Then I've got work
>Next thread probably usual time on Saturday. I don't work the night before so hopefully I'll wake up earlier.

Awesome. Thanks Lamb. So what our exp multiplier at? Is It Lyra level? Also out of 3 Re monster quest mc where do you think Sunny would fall?
>>
>>39537171
I'm keeping xp close to the chest but seeing as Sunny tends to the murderous end of things and keep getting in fights with stuff much bigger than her, magic or not, she's doesn't have a low XP gain

Out of the three Re Monster quests I only read one of them. So I'll place her at 2.

FUN FACT: Sunny is currently 27.2inches tall when bipedal and measures roughly 54.4 inches from nose to tail as of day 17. She's more than half grown!

If you'd rolled normally mom would have been and gone directly to do another thing (which she ignored this time), auntie would have gone to do auntie's thing as she is sometimes want, and the only responsible adults watching you when your magic became obvious would have been Dad and Kuru.

Those rolls plus your interactions with auntie changed things dramatically.
>>
>>39537566
I assume stuff such as us falling for an obvious trap option of ignoring a fire, going the route of finding our mother despite that not being an intended option, us transcending into hardcore bird murder, and us fighting enemies we weren't supposed to fight solo all have negatively effected us. Also we stole a hat from a potential bad guy in the story and then dodged his question by accusing him of pedophilia.
>>
>>39537679
Those are also things that came later, yes. Which fire did you not ignore?
>>
>>39537704
I was referring to that forest fire we started that led to a whole acid trip moment that will likely cause confusion and irrational fears of magical bears for the rest of our life, as well as an irrational fear of leaving even a single spark of fire after us fighting in the woods.
>>
>>39537674
So basically us rolling 1s turned out really well? for us anyways.

>>39537833
