Hive space is filled with your ships as they patrol over your worlds and drift in the orbit of your gas giant for fuel. Your forces grow ever larger, and while you still intercept the occasional scout from the Obsidian Queen, you have been able to focus on other matters, and you hope to not need to worry about any scavenger incursions until their last patrol is missed.

You watch over your hive as it works tirelessly to fulfill your orders. The natives of Raligha have entered a frenzy after the events of the invasion, and word of it has spread far and wide to regions unaffected by the attacks. Your airborne patrols watch from the skies as entire villages slowly make the pilgrimage from distant regions to the area surrounding your hive, and new villages seem to have begun appearing in the area around the old hive sites of the Gardener. Shrines have sprung up near the foundations of your anti-orbital batteries, and the jungle is filled with the sounds of ceremonies, using the massive natural horns of the trees to organize events across hundreds of kilometers at a time.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

>Thought muffler
By utilizing your new understanding of crystalline brains you have been able to adapt your understanding of the psionic shroud into a more compact and reproducible form. While it is nowhere near as effective, it is capable of muffling the thoughts of your drones to any psionic sensitive beings not attuned to the hive, causing them to blend in to the background noise of the universe and making them more difficult to detect mentally. This is a passive upgrade that affects all drones utilizing your newly created crystal neuron technology.

>Photonic Blaster
By utilizing a series of lenses and carefully adjusted electromagnetic pulses, a beam of intense light is chopped into pulses, forcing photons to collide and form into temporary molecules. These photonic molecules are capable of behaving as if they held mass, and interact with other matter, causing intense burns and localized radiation. The bolts of molecular light do not travel at the full speed of light so long as they hold together, but break up on contact, causing a bright multi-spectrum flash and small shockwave that burns and ruptures the target.

[New weapon unlocked]
Photonic Blaster – The blaster utilizes an intense multi-frequency laser to produce a powerful beam of light that is then focused through a series of carefully calibrated lenses and electromagnetic fields to slow down the stream of light in intervals, forcing the photons to bump into one another and join into a molecule that is capable of interaction with matter, and then fired as a bolt of light. The photonic molecule acts as if it holds mass, and breaks apart back into individual photons upon contact, causing a burst of intense radiation that causes severe burns to the target as it super heats the air directly around it, creating a small shock wave that can rupture armor and soft targets alike. The weapon itself is highly stable, and is capable of firing continuously with little heat buildup and little to no recoil. The bolt can slowly loose photons as it travels, and moves much slower than light speed, which limits its effective range, but not by much. While the weapon has no outstanding features about it, it is a reliable weapon for many different uses that is never the perfect tool for the job, but is always an acceptable choice for just about any situation and improves in effectiveness the more it is used.
Size: M
Dmg: Medium Energy/Thermal
RoF: Medium
Rng: Long
Acc: Medium
Special: Quantity is a quality – If more than one blaster is attacking a single target, its armor becomes less effective at blocking blaster fire with every shot as they slowly impart more and more heat to the target and slowly blast layers of it away. This effect cannot totally remove armor, but can temporally reduce its effectiveness to nothing, depending on the armor type and the number of blasters used. A single blaster cannot benefit from this. Drones with blasters will focus fire by default as much as possible when targeting armored units.

[New research unlocked]

>Blaster Cannon
Fast
Immediately after studying the alien blaster your thinkers have proposed methods of altering the design to increase its size for large drone and ship use. The general reliability of the blaster promises to offer a weapon option capable of filling general combat or support roles with great effectiveness, although it would leave niche roles unfilled.

>Anti-orbital pulse cannon
Medium
The major drawback of the anti-orbital battery is the inefficiency with which it punches through the atmosphere with its particle beam, losing both range and damage. By adapting the blaster’s design to ‘pulse’ the beam of the battery weapon, your anti-orbital defenses could potentially increase both their range and average damage per shot.

>Photonic microstructures
Slow
The useful applications of manipulating massive photonic molecules are many, and your preliminary studies indicate that you may be able to develop more practical uses beyond the blaster, especially in the field of energy shielding.

Current research

Psionic implantation
>Medium
By implanting neural crystals within a non-psionic subject you can deliberately cause a mutation within the subject, forcing it to grow the organs necessary to influence and interact with psionic networks. You now recognize this technology as the most likely cause of Vaugn's own alterations, indicating the relic found on Raligha to be a form of prototype of this technology, or perhaps it was left by the Gardener as a gift to the natives.

Enhanced Psionic sensitivity
>Slow
By putting your new knowledge into practice, you should be able to enhance the abilities of your medium and advanced relays to be able to detect, and with further research influence, non-psionic creatures in proximity.

Nausea field
>Slow
A rather interesting side effect first noticed with your Blink drive, but now weaponized to great effect as a defensive measure. You should be able to enhance your medium and advanced relays to emit a wave of sickening nausea in a radius around it, causing effected subjects to feel increasing levels of both physical and mental uneasiness, causing feelings of dread and queasiness.

>Solid State Teleportation
Slow
While standard quantum systems allow for instantaneous transportation of data, this technology would allow for essentially the instantaneous transport of matter. The matter in question would be disassembled into individual particles and transported in much the same way as bits of data through a quantum relay, and then assembled on the other side. Due to the nature of the process, only simple objects such as raw resources could survive teleportation. This should allow for the transportation of resources across hive space without the need to delegate ships to serve as trade vessels.

>Ground-orbital mega-construction
Slow
By using new construction systems to improve efficiency, the hive can build new projects capable of reaching orbit, using the rotation of the planet to remove the requirements of a free standing structure and instead essentially hang a station in orbit from the surface of the planet. Such a construction project would double as a docking pylon capable of constructing capital ships at a much faster rate, and replace the need for shuttles to ferry goods to and from orbit. [Unlocks the Capillary Tower construction option]

>Quantum Tuning
Medium
While current quantum computing technology requires the relays be built to accommodate one another, this technology should allow you to quickly attune pre-existing devices for one another when in proximity. Your thinkers suspect more opportunities to open up after further research is done. You suspect Theseus would greatly appreciate such a technology, if he does not already poses it.

>Mantle excavation
Slow
By using advancements in the operation and function of the metal trees, you can force them to focus their attention past the rocky crust of a world and have them dive their roots clear into the mantle of a planet, tapping into a vast wealth of metals

>Flash Cloning
Medium
While it may not be healthy for the clone in question, your mastery of biological technology allows you to accelerate the normal growth cycle of a clone, growing it to maturity within a single day, however clones are not as genetically robust as your own drones and doing so may cause undesirable genetic defects that may take time to reverse and result in a lower quality final product.

>Gravity reflection
Slow
Using superconducting polymers at near zero temperatures, you can interact and direct gravitational forces. Further research could lead to interesting applications of this new discovery.

>Neural crystal fractals
Medium
Further experimentation into the advantages of crystalline neural structures over your simpler organic computing has led to a potential breakthrough. By creating redundant designs the method of interaction with psionic signals can be adjusted, potentially leading to a sturdier defense against psionic based attacks.

Available research options

>Psionic Cannon prototype
Very slow/Very dangerous
Detailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.

There is a light ding, and the doors to the lift open. The human guard walks out and into a large warehouse. You did not move far enough to have reached the surface, so this must be a basement level, and the warehouse itself appears to spread out into the area where the empty courtyard is, with several large vehicle lifts located beneath it, and a large sealed gate marked as leading to the parking garage.

The human guard walks out and up to a waiting guard standing nearby.
"Let security know a reclamation team will be stopping by." He says, his voice flat. "One for recyc." The man nods solemnly and clicks his radio as the other walks off into a hallway labeled as a barracks.

Your flies are quick to move out, blending in with the exposed wires and support struts as they crawl their way out of the elevator. You notice that the elevator seems to continue up into the ceiling to the building proper, and several staircases lead to areas marked for various uses indicating many of the humans here seem to live within the compound.

Theoretically yes. But realistically, given the way we've been playing, We have problems of our industry and strategic resource reserves barely being able to keep up with our levels of production lately.
Also I realized that we have almost no strategic depth. If and when the Obsidian Queen discovers Leeland, she could rush us right there and then, and even if we could evacuate to out other worlds, we would be in very dire straights since we have almost all our industry, food, and metals situated there.

Your flies spread out among the hallways and corridors surrounding the central warehouse, which seems to store a strange combination of military, medical, and surveillance equipment. Various sealed chambers lead into what appear to be surgical rooms, although the chambers are each air tight, and you can find no way of entry without risking detection.

In the corridors around the building, you find a number of small barracks and mess halls serving humans in mixtures of fatigues, civilian apparel, military gear, and lab coats.
"So you hear about Yune?"
"No, the guy gives me the creeps honestly."
"Heard he got shot a few days ago."
"Really? How'd they manage to pull that off?"
"Nobody's sure, he's been up in medical."

Your fly moves along the ceiling and wraps itself around a fire suppressor, its body contorting to match, and the rest of your flies continue on as the conversation switches to the topic of some local sporting event.

You eventually find an area marked with a number of signs: "Main medical" on the top floor of the warehouse, with the two bellow marked "Medical lab" and "Bio hazard containment" respectively. There is a small airlock leading into it, with what you recognize as a bio scanner inside.

On the ceiling is a number of decent sized air ducts slowly circulating the air. The grates are too small even for your flies, but given time, you should be able to chew through them.

Beyond the confines of the facility, Lyle looks over the schematics of the city sewers once more.
"It's simple enough. We just need to set up the sonic scanners along the roof, and set breaching caps once we get a decent reading. Hopefully we won't need 'em, but I like to be safe." Dillon says. A microphone set along the desk crackles with Jackob's voice.

"I'll see if I can preoccupy any guards while you get that done, but you two need to work fast."

Lyle flips a small grenade sized disk in his hand. "No way to tell if there's any surveillance there, so we can hit them with a bug bomb before we get started to cut out any cameras."

Dillon clicks the map and it dissipates into a flash as the hologram vanishes. "Good. Jackob, let me know when you have the skiff in position, we'll meet you at junction under Adams and thirty first."

The microphone cuts out and Dillon looks back to Lyle as he packs the projector into his coat.
"This is official agency work now, but we'll still be on the lookout for your guy, obviously. I assume you don't want him on any official records, so I won't mention him in any reports at the end of this."

Lyle gives a quick nod as he swigs down the last of his drink. "''Preciated."

"But" He adds, "I wanted to ask you something real quick."

"I know you don't typically talk about your jobs one way or the other, I respect that professionalism, and you don't have to answer, but I still have to ask."

"Because of your job?" Lyle asks.

"Because I'm curious." Dillon says. "People don't pull off much without my agency finding out, and I know for a fact that someone got in dirty with someone, and a pile of aliens ended up on a ship from Mars on its way to Tadega." Dillon looks over various weapons and stashes them along the inside of his reclamation uniform. "Nobody imports trout to Tadega, and Olympus shipyards isn't usually in the merchant business, and then a few days later the picket fleet nukes the place without warning." He shakes his head slowly. "It doesn't usually take that long to collect a few local specimens, especially not for you. You got caught, didn't you? I mean, let's face it, you don't have a perfect record. I've traced half a dozen Unity infections back to you, but never with any legal evidence, and I just leave what I do find off the record, but before we do anything else, I just wanted to know if you're good."

Lyle pauses for a moment, and begins folding the breaching caps into his bag. "Course I am."

"I just figured, those things are smart enough to speak, they could be smart enough to know what they don't know. I mean, imagine if they got a warp drive?"

Lyle lets out a reflexive chuckle. "God damn, man. What do you think's going on here?"

Dillon shrugs. "I don't know, don't really care. I'll leave that to BFI's more legitimate branches. I just wanted to know how you've been doing."

The skiff sits waiting at the sewer junction, its flood lights cover the waters ahead in blinding light. It is a decently sized platform mounted on a series of levitation pads nearly a foot from the water, with a rack near the back big enough for several human bodies, and a large empty box that smells like a Valen's gift in a Taidraen embassy after being left to 'ripen' in the sun for a week. Jackob sits in the front, where the bumper dips down to offer a wider view from a small leather seat covered in stains of unknowable origins. Six seats are set up along the sides facing inwards, with three on either side, and in the center is a chest high rod with a pivoting mount where a search light would go, although you make out the silhouette of the Suncaster under a thick blanket nearby. Lyle secures it with his foot and straps himself in, and the skiff lurches forward with an echoing hum.

Sticking a parasite in him and expecting to make use of the resources gained from his position is idiotic. First of all, conditioning him to be useful is going to take 1-3 days and a healthy chunk of a thread, or outright fail. Rolls will be involved. Then how's he going to explain being AWOL? The skiff slides to a halt over the floating mess by the elevator.

"It took you long enough." Says the guard. "Hurry up and get this packed up. We need to flush this section out."

Jackob hops the railing to the walkway. "Yea, well first I'm going to need you to walk me through how this happened."

"What? We were fucking attacked by these things, I already told you!"

"No, no I mean details. Gonna need you to show me where they came from, how they got in, all that. If this was a malfunction we can't have it happen again. We have traps all over the city, what if the design is defective?"

The guard quickly points over to the end of the canal. "They came from over there. You can check yourself."

Jackob shakes his head. "No can do. You need to show me the details, either you, or your boss. It's under your building, which means that you could be held liable under the right circumstances, since you clearly have a presence down here already. Lot's of companies like to use these tunnels for moving sensitive stuff, and sometimes they take shortcuts they shouldn't. If you don't come with me, and I find out your company could be at fault, that could be years of court battles, but you could always tell your boss to come down here instead."

The guard lets out a frustrated groan. "Fine!" He says and leads Jackob off to the end of the corridor. Jackob turns back behind him and gives a quick thumbs up as Lyle presses his thumb against a small frisbee shaped device, causing it to start to hum softly.

"Alright, we have about five minuets before that thing could be detected." Lyle says as he grabs one of the sensors. He squats down and leaps into the air, quickly reaching the ceiling several meters above and grabbing hold of a pipe as he plants the sensor on the cement above. Dillon quickly tosses him several more as Lyle plants them one by one and you watch as each one covers itself in a stone-like foam, blending into the surface of the ceiling.

"Hold on, I'm picking up some kind of weird interference, like a... buzzing. Need to adjust it a bit first. Here we go. Place has a basement warehouse, looks like a pretty big complex actually. The floor above us looks like a loading bay of some kind." He looks up and tosses Lyle a hand full of blasting caps and points out several locations.

"Yea, sure thing, since you look so busy."

"Well that's what you get for being the only one with fucking frog legs." Dillon says. "You know what they say about grass and the lawn mower."

"Actually not really. I've honestly never seen a lawn in person, except maybe one of those shitty plastic ones." Lyle says as he leaps to one of the corners, his legs digging into the conduits and sprinting up the wall just enough to plant the charge, then hopping back to the walk way. In several minuets he has the charges in place.

"That's that, now, we do what we came here for. Grab a net and act like your job is actually boring." Dillon says as he reaches for the jammer. "We can make a plan of attack once we give the sensors time to get a good eye on the building."

If it's a lab, the filters almost certainly have monitors tracking whether they work or not. Definitely not designed to detect intruders, but bigass holes being chewed through them is going to register as a filter failure on their system.

We don't need him as an ambassador for the hive, that's what Lee is for. The dudes a professional cop/spook. His contacts and skillset would be best employed in the shadowy underworld, but yeah, we don't necessarily have to give him a parasite for that to work.

Wow it's like you don't even read the things people write. You cannot put a parasite in a person's body if they are in the intelligence game and expect that parasite to go unnoticed for any amount of time. You cannot expect an intelligence agency to be in favor of one of their agents having an alien parasite inside of their body. There is no way to reconcile a parasite in Dilon's body with Dilon working his current job. It is better to have him in his job and vaguely-but-maybe-not-really sympathetic than it is to have another above-average human agent to play with.

-Especially- after we've revealed ourselves.

Speaking of that, since we've got such an efficient method of stripping minerals, we could probably sell a bunch of rare minerals after going out into the open and then give a shit ton of credits to everyone we currently have captive as recompense. Also we can probably con our way out of it on the ground that the tribals were the one to attack after unity firebombed there ship, and we just happened to be the ones that had to play clean up afterwards.
>>
>>39598301
No, no, full scale invasion. There would be nothing more terrifying than some unknown insectoid race blinking in from out of nowhere from deep space and unleashing innumerable fighters and invasion swarms.

It would look far better to make it clear that people who fucked with us don't necessarily have to die. It kind of sets the whole idea that we aren't some horrific monstrosity who will melt all who disagree with us into raw biomass.

I do read thank you, I don't expect him to remain in the agency either if we do that. however We could have him infested long enough to pass MORE parasites into other agents and more or less compromise as many members of the government and the ones who do the screenings as we can. We'll feed the higher ups an 'green lite' and get the intelligence right from the source. It's risky, but it could work.

People don't like living in fear.

You only need to put a parasite in him for five days.

That's long enough to clone him and implant all the memories of the original into a hybrid.

Also, we don't know for sure that intelligence agencies regularly do elaborate, lengthy CAT scans on their personnel.

If, after we parasite him, and invade his memories to review just what kind of scrutiny he's under. Then we can make a decision whether to keep him parasited based on that.

We might at least want him parasited for purely passive spying purposes, if not altering his behavior any that would draw attention.
>>
>>39598648
We would still gain his knowledge and non-departmental contacts. But for all we know, BFI's heavily compartmentalized and we end up learning almost fuck all.
>>
>>39598643

One corrupt politician and his legitimately insane henchmen did, which was done in full contradiction of first contact protocol. His actions are simply not representative of the Union as a whole.

>>
>>39598648
I thought about it and yes, that is likely true. And more likely everyone will leave him be, but alternatively we could use him as an infection agent to convert most if not all the agency itself and still let the higher ups think nothing happened. This could work if we don't go public.

You have your drones slip up and search the compound. The flies by the filters are slowed, but they are quick to begin making progress. Your other drones find no resistance as they move up and through the upper levels of the building. Your flies find a number of offices and cubicles. Near the area where the labs are located, in what you note would be the level above the main medical floor, is an area marked as the infirmary. Near that is another small mess hall, little more then a small break room, and while you note sidearms at the hip of most in the area, there are very few fully armed guards.

Unlike the medical lab, the infirmary appears mostly open, with an automatic door near the front and boxes of medical equipment lines along the wall outside. On the floor above the entire area is dedicated to administration, with countless files and papers marked as top secret sitting in piles, or floating as holograms on agents' desks. On many computers you can see what looks like video footage, and you can even recognize several Union political figures sitting in what look like their offices, or from the shaky cameras of their personal communicators.

"I honestly could care less about your pointless excuses, I want results, and so does the council." You recognize the smooth drawl of a Talgoian accent. A fly moves closer and finds a large office near the far wall where a hologram of Killinger stands several inches high on a desk. "You told me you would send in a report last week, and now you tell me it's 'being handled' well, it's time to shit or get off the pot, because you've been leading the local gangs around on a leash trying to mop up this mess and apart from getting your hit men on the fucking news, you have nothing to show for it!" He throws a device at an invisible table in front of him, and the data on it is flashed above him, showing a local news report of the men Lyle and your clones had killed at Lee's apartment building.

Valen are friendly because they can crash the human economy if they felt like, and the ceph are actively antagonistic towards humanity with out them even realizing it. The lesser races fall on all sides of the spectrum here.

Mostly negative because their induction into the Union was in the form of annexation.
>>
>>39599126
At least one of those races naturally lived in shit and had a pretty low quality of life to begin with. If anything them being annexed actually helped them. With the mute ceph they actually benefit also from the union as thats a place they can live without actively being murdered.

You do realize there is nothing they could do to make our lives hell.

That's anons being naively optimistic regarding Theseus's bearing. He's not going to betray us under any circumstances, but his retaliation against us for certain categories of behaviour towards humanity would not constitute "betrayal".

The thresholds on behaviour necessary to garner retaliation are currently unknown to us. People are making assumptions about it. Personally, I feel that Theseus would not respond well to anything resembling planetary invasion of an established colony.

"Yes sir, but I did want to talk to you about your opponent, Richardson?"

"That Green sack of shit is less likely to beat me in an election then my own ass." His jaw line tightens in anger. "I'll worry about my election, you worry about doing your job. I tell you to figure out who killed our mole, and you hire a dozen hit men to start a fire fight in a high rise. I tell you to contain the situation, and you get one of your best men, a man with substantial investment from this project mind you, nearly killed by some gang banger asshole, and have quite possibly lead the straight to you!" He clenches his tiny fists, and you note the man in the room is quite tense, despite the hologram's tiny size. "I'm going to make a call. This has gone on long enough. The council will make plans to have a new location prepared, clean out this base immediately and get the subjects ready to move." Killinger moves to an unseen control, and pauses as if he remembered something, looking back up sternly. "Just remember how critical your project is. We can ill afford a repeat of the battle of Sol, so by God you better get your ducks in a row before the Commonwealth does." He jerks his arm off screen to shut off the feed, his arm tensing as if snapping a man's neck, and the hologram winks out.

The man turns to his desk and presses a button and an artificial voice responds.
"Please contact the Secretary Council." He says, and he closes the door.

As you watch the man look over various papers your flies continue to spread out, reaching the next level of the building. It is largely empty, with a number of guards standing in empty hall that leads to a sealed area with two guards standing at attention. On the other side, near the elevator, is a locked door behind which you detect a mess of electrical equipment and activity.

It definitely sounds like Unity invented weaponized singularity devices. But I don't see where it's mentioned as being related to the Space Fold. Their alternate FTL seems to be a separate invention of theirs that humans don't have.

I don't think we've heard anything about the space fold drive really.

Sounds like the unity have actually mastered it to a science, being able to project a temporary controlled singularity on a target without wiping yourself out as well. Singularity bombs are far easier to make and would likely be viable still. In general its easier to make something that is massively destructive and doesn't have to worry about damage control to itself afterwards.

>I tell you to figure out who killed our mole,
I fucking knew "Pinkleton" was a secret agent once he pulled that gun on Lyle.

That sob story about being a sucker in debt who needed a new face and new life was nothing but a distraction.

But who was he supposed to be a mole within. Xeno rights extremist groups?

He still had that apartment on gemini under his Steven Geldron Fake ID. So surely he couldn't be going far. There's no way he was supposed to hitch a ride with smugglers to land on Leeland and become a mole among the hive as a "fugitive Lee" running off to become Dances With Bugs... is there?

I mean he was put into motion even before the lab facility blew up.

>Thread 30.2, Lyle finally contacts his broker and leaves to deliver his roaches. Thread 33, Conrad Killinger hears about how Seiner's lab went all ALIENS. Thread 33.1, Theseus mentions the Fake Lee on Gemini: "He was boarding a shuttle to Long Island nearly a day ago."

I mean whatever the plan was, this was planned ever since Lee's prison blew up. If he was Killinger's Plan C for learning more about the hive bugs, there's no way he would've sent him out when he had the specimens coming in. Is there?
>>
>>39600223
It takes Canderon to do that shit. CANDERON. Costing millions of credits for enough kilograms of the stuff.

If you can't aim it without destroying your power source, it's not viable.

The question is, who are the subjects. They couldn't have access to the Commonwealth-loyal humans who worked on the psionic cannon and were affected by the relay-monolith. They'd all be dead on the moon, or retreating into Commonwealth space.

>It appears to be built on a similar principle as the gravity drive, but instead of creating a method of acceleration by projecting a singularity just beyond the ship's hull, it creates a singularity within a target ship's hull, or at least very close to it. Despite your understanding of the gravity drive, neither you nor the human factions have devised a way to overcome the massive power requirements and herculean amounts of calculations required to operate and aim the device properly.

>a delay like that
I never said keep him prisoner for the whole 5 days.

Let him go about his business, then we can just have the parasite remove itself by:
- flooding him with Nepenthe to make him suggestible and obedient
- telling him, as a hallucination, to stay in the shower for a while while the parasite crawls out of him
- anesthetize him hard, and heal up the exit wound with medi-gel before the parasite self-destructs and washes down the drain.

But that's assuming they even do that kind of deep CAT scan stuff if he's not missing for nearly a week.

We have to implant him and dive his memories to find out how invasive their security measures are. It may be surprisingly easy to avoid.
>>
>>39600522
I'm fairly certain what you've described is beyond the capabilities of our parasites.
>>
>>39600539

- Parasites are an all-purpose pharmacy, they can inject any drug we know of.
- Nepenthe makes you 100% suggestible.
- Parasites heal wounds with medi-gel. You've seen this in action with Lyle's wounds.

The man in the office seems to be kept waiting for a few moments, staring at a divided screen before him showing four large symbols, of each seat on the Secretary Council. Eventually they fill the screen one by one. There is the stern looking woman you know as Alexandra Dupont in the square of the Secretary of Defense. Next to her on the monitor is a rough looking elderly man with a scar across his face, and what appears to be an orchard behind him in the square for the Secretary of Intelligence. Above them is the Secretary of Commerce, a thin looking man with a large mustache and wire thin glasses, and the Secretary of State, a young looking and dark skinned man in a fine suit. His right eye is clearly artificial.

The Secretary of Intelligence is the first to speak. "I just got off the phone with Killinger. He was brief, but he did not paint a good picture of the situation." He begins to walk along the aisles of fruit trees, the camera floating after him. "Despite our complex situation, you are still under my direct authority, and while your actions are far from daylight, and you will not be held accountable in any public court, you will be held accountable to me." He speaks softly in a calm tone, but the agent in the office is sweating.

"Yes sir. I was told to prepare to move the facility. My men are already packing as quickly as possible, and we can evacuate properly once we have a site to move the, eh, artifacts, as well as the remaining subjects."

"I'm already on damage control with the events on Tadega." Dupont says, far louder. "Seiner was too obsessed and had too little to work on. I don't want another containment issue, or worse. There are plenty of sites on the far side of Gemini minor, and nobody bats and eye when we test a bombardment warhead there, so containment won't be an issue."
>>
>>39600602
Is it Gemini Minor, or Gemini Beta?

>artifacts
Those better be dead void shards we can steal.

Fragments of the cannon are fine too.
>>
>>39600602
>we can evacuate properly once we have a site to move the, eh, artifacts, as well as the remaining subjects
Artifacts eh?
>>
>>39600668
Which reminds me.

I was thinking of sending an additional search party to earth in search of the spent ammunition that the cannon used up.

Dead void shards are only noticeable by their -absence-, they absorb all radiation and reflect nothing-- we can use that.

Fill corvettes with hundreds of gilled workers and aquatic sniffers, and have them spread out deep in the crater and sonar to each other.

Suspicious blank spots in the sonar where nothing is reflected, and nothing is received from the opposite end, would suggest a possible shard buried in the muck somewhere.

The secretary of Commerce adjusts his glasses as he reads something. "I tend to agree, but we should make sure to avoid these drastic costs. I can't keep diverting funds at this rate without either risking attention or using third party resources. The Union already owes more to the Valen in total then our tax base, plus I expect it to be a major issue in the coming election."

"Not quite." The Secretary of State is sitting in an ornate looking office, drinking a hot drink. "Killinger and I have made arrangements. Once we get the bill rushed out this week we can shift the public discourse back to national defense. You'll have all the funding you need."

The Secretary of Intelligence looks back at the agent in the room. "What about the subjects?"

The agent quickly shuffles through several files. "Most quickly regress without a proper implant, and some even with it. So far only agent Yune has shown any significant capabilities, which is limited to what the researchers refer to as a kind of extra sensory perception. He claimed he felt something very faintly during his last mission, which is why I contacted Representative Killinger immediately. As for the others, our newest subject has begin initial treatment, but it will be a while before we know anything for sure. The others have had... mixed results."

"That's a fine way to say failure. I've read the reports." Dupont says. "It's nothing but a bunch of lab techs talking about how great it is you managed to stave off a total mental breakdown by another day, then going on a tangent about the applications, meanwhile the Commonwealth managed to build the same artifacts into a weapon capable of annihilating half a fleet in less then three salvos. Void shards speak to people and make them increasingly more psionically sensitive. That's how it starts. They implant knowledge and desires.

Exposure to void shards increases psionic sensitivity over time, which is probably what's happening here.

"Go get the door, Michael, see what mess it is this time." She says. He complies, opening the door just enough to block the view from the screen.

"Sir, it's Yune. He was complaining of a headache so we ran a scan, here are the results." The man hands him a small display. Your fly makes out the view of a human skull, with a decent sized spheroid just behind the eye. Underneath there are a number of graph readings. The agent pales.

"Set up a silent alarm. Don't mention why. Get whatever data you can out of the facility, and burn whatever you can't move." He glances back to the council for a moment. "And lock down the labs, call it a contamination if you need to, just do it."

The agent moves slowly back to the screen, as if someone were holding a gun to his head. "I'll have the facility evacuated as quickly as possible, and will report back when we are ready to move the sensitive materials. I-I'm sorry, but I need to go. This line is not secure." As the four on the screen react he cuts the line before they can speak in protest, and then lets out a gasping sigh, then hits the intercom.

Any race that has some form of psionics that isn't them pisses off the Void gods and marks them for annihilation.

Humanity sealed it's doom when they started messing with things they shouldn't have.

Your flies make their way under the doorway and crawl their way back up the walls. The room is a security center, with the wall filled with screens covering much of the facility. In one, you see Yune in the infirmary. A man walks in to speak with him, and a moment later he is getting dressed in his jumpsuit and walking out.

On another is a series of cells, most empty, but others containing what appear to be comatose humans in what apears to be the containment area.

On another is a medical lab, where you see a number of bodies in a morgue, several humans, at least six Ceph on screen, and off in the corner is a wall of shell-like flesh. Several humans in lab coast are working over a Ceph body, its thought shell dismantled and spread across the table.

On another you see armed guards working over a series of large armored vehicles, loading crates into the backs. Another seems to be manipulating the controls on a large box, and the box unfolds into a quadrupedal machine with a thick wire hanging from the back where the guard operates a controller.

On another you see a young man in a jumpsuit, similar to the other patients, in a large machine of some kind. Static on the monitor indicates some manner of radiation, and technicians operate the controls from behind transparasteel glass. The screen indicates it is in the main medical area.

>So this is why the Ceph have been attacking humanity!
>Any race that has some form of psionics that isn't them pisses off the Void gods and marks them for annihilation.
>Humanity sealed it's doom when they started messing with things they shouldn't have.

Yeah. I was thinking the same thing when we got the memories of the Commonwealth designing the psionic cannon.

So that's why the Ceph are attacking the Union! They're attacking all the humans anywhere near Earth, where the experiments happened like 90 years ago.

...but apparently there is still shit ongoing for them to be upset about, too.
>>
>>39602177
Well the ceph are dumb as bricks

And the weak human psykers must give enough signal to notice but not enough to pin point where it is
>>
>>39602177
Not that anon, but I don't understand why some are saying that this project was reverse engineered from the Moon PsiCannon. Since from what I understand, the PsiCannon was just a machine that focuses a void crystal's energy into a deadly weapon. There's nothing inherently psionic about the cannon itself.

Now, if the things in question are void crystals or other artifacts like Mother's moon relay which CAN affect other living things by just being near them, that's more plausible in my opinion.

>Order Lyle to attack the facility at once
>Have your flies move to attack

You quickly send Lyle the pertinent information. They are back at the hotel where Dillon looks over the telescope, which is beeping madly.
"What in the hell? Looks like armed guys all over the courtyard, lots of activity. Shit, they couldn't have found the charges already."

"They're getting ready to evacuate sooner then I thought. We need to move out now. Anyone have a plan?" Lyle says. Dillon furrows his brow and paces quickly, changing his disguise out for a ballistic vest.

"Ok, I think I got it, but you won't like it." He says. "Jackob, you get the easy job. Get the skiff back under the building, but stay away from the blasting caps. It's going to be our exit. Lyle, you and me will go in on the roof."

"How?" He asks. "They'd probably shoot down a shuttle or have a firing squad ready by the time we land."

Dillon smiles and looks at the massive block of metal sitting by the window. "Not exactly."

Lyle cracks a smile. "You won't get your deposit back."

The hybrids are unarmed.

They should be manning Lyle's getaway vehicle.

By which I mean the skiff we're going to use to take Jackob and Dillon away on to be parasited so we can copy their memories. Since we don't have any bio-tanks hatched yet.
>>
>>39602271
Man I can't wait until we get biotanks set up in that processing plant so we can start pumping out hybrids.

Can we load up some pods from our main bases with some extra hybrids and start to sneak them into the system as extra help?
>>

That would take too long and risks rolling badly again. Might as well just clone people on-site.

Well that and anyone who witnesses us attacking either of them.
>>

>>Have your flies attack now, targetting Yune and the head agent
Ultimately, ensuring these bastards don't have enough time to call for backup is more important than notes giving us info we can just pull from severed heads.
>>
>>39602331
That doesn't make any fucking sense.

Pods are not for following. They're for observing the star system.

If you want to track the vehicles in case they leave, ask Theseus to track any vehicles leaving this facility that Yune entered, via the traffic cameras.
>>
>>39602454
IDEALLY, we can corner head agent and Yune in head agent's office, along with the guy escorting Yune.

And leave them all dead or half-dead and paralyzed. Which at least will trigger no alarms, until someone barges into his office.

Which should be long enough, I would think, for Lyle to still have the element of surprise.

I'll get the next thread started up in just a moment once you have your plan of attack set up. Your flies scouting the labs will have made their way in by then, fortunately, just before it was sealed.

Hey QD, did you fall asleep last week?

We didn't get to have a vote to queue those ship construction suggestions we were discussing at the end of the thread.

Or cover some of those other questions.
>>
>>39602781
In particular , we really should have had the cost for producing fusion reactors that mimic human construction methods statted.

Since we really should have a big batch of those finished at the same time the hybrids are ready.

I did, just about right on the keyboard. It was a rough week.

On the note of horrifying invasion plans.

Coral is where the rich elite live, right?

Hatch some stealthy aquatic drones deep in the sea, and have them sneak up to rich kids swimming in the shallows of their parents' beachside resorts/mansions. Or rich adults. Whatever.

It could be tricky, but we could drug them with Nepenthe and get the parasites inside with some very improvised surgery. The bio-salve can clear up the obvious infection problem afterward.

Then after a while if they're turned into hybrids, or just get dosed with nepenthe again, they can make generous donations to the appropriate account.

We need food and metal that's it

And most of the tech we want we just steal
>>
>>39603037
I'm considering it.

We at least need a bank account and loadsamoney in order to smuggle ourselves to Ceph space via Valen hyper gates.
>>
>>39603101
Stealing is such a harsh word, were just forcing them to share with us.
>>
>>39603071

>>
>>39603125
We're not selling them in the Union.

We're selling them via Space eBay. A Valen bank.

And the idea of smugglers selling fusion reactors isn't that fed-worthy.
>>
>>39603150
I think anyone selling fusion reactors is going too be paid attention because of just what their selling

And no, you wouldn't get Union registered serial numbers if they're made in the Commonwealth and sold among the Valen.

>Humans utilize prefabricated sheets welded or riveted together, and while you would be able to mimic the design if you tried, it would increase the cost of production and the time required. Although it may also be possible to attempt to market the alternate aesthetic as a feature.
>>
>>39603237
>And no, you wouldn't get Union registered serial numbers if they're made in the Commonwealth and sold among the Valen.
But it would have serial numbers if it did. The entire point of serial numbers is to track them down. If they don't have serial numbers it's good chance they were stolen.
>>
>>39603334
Well duh.

That's what smugglers often do.

But there's another reason to file off the serial numbers: to sell them in foreign space, Valen space, is against Commonwealth laws. The person who produced them would never want it traced back to them. Only the sweet sweet credits.
>>
>>39603373
Correction.
http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Quest:Hive_Queen_Quest#Life_in_the_Commonwealth

It's only mentioned as illegal to import goods from the Union. It technically doesn't say anything about banning selling.

But ever colony has its own laws, so it might just be a matter of tax dodging one particular colony's regime by smuggling on the black market.
