You are Randal Tallstag, a young lord of House Tallstag, one of the great five noble houses of the kingdom of Whitestar. There has been much trouble in Whitestar the past few years and your house has fallen greatly because of it. Barbarians from the far North have invaded your kingdom and stolen much of its land, nearly wiping out your entire noble house save for you and a few others in your family, namely your father and your uncle and his family.

Your house along with the other great houses, have been called to the capital of Whitestar, the city of Snowhaven. This great city is where the king resides with his family, the Frostclaws. After attending your coming of age ceremony, you have chosen to join the King's Rangers, and will leave to join them in two days time.

You wake up at first light feeling refreshed, you bathe and get dressed. While getting ready you think on the events that transpired last night. How Trista confessed her feelings towards you and you her. How you told her you were still undecided as to whom you would choose between, her or Lydia. You hope she isn’t too upset with you.

You push those thoughts from your mind as you head downstairs and see that your father is home and already up. He must have come in quite late last night. You see that your father hasn’t noticed you yet, it looks like he’s looking over a stack of papers and is signing them.

>”Good morning father, why were you gone all day yesterday? Are the preparations for me becoming a King’s Ranger that time consuming?”

”Hello father, what are those papers you have there?” You ask as you sit down next to him at the table and grab a platter of breakfast.

“Oh, Randal I didn’t see you there, and these are documents that I need to sign in order for you to join the King’s Rangers. You’ll be needing to read and sign them as well,” says your father looking up from the papers.

Great, paperwork, you’ve always hated paperwork, and that stack of papers in front of your father looks quite large. But, if it means you get to join the King’s Rangers, you’ll sign the blasted things.

“I see father, how was yesterday by the way?”

“Very long and tiring, but its nothing I haven’t done before. I had to go through the same stuff when your brother joi-” Your father stops himself, he had never once mentioned your brother since his death all those years ago at the hands of the barbarians. His death had affected your father and drove him into a deep depression for a time. Your father’s face turns sad, but he straightens up and finishes signing the paperwork. “Alright, no that that’s done you’ll need to sign it and then take it to the palace, after you do so King Richard will officially grant you the title of King’s Ranger. Now then, I’m going to head out, there are a few more matter that I must attend to before you leave tomorrow.”

“Alright thank you father,” you say as he walks out the door.

You look at the stack of papers and begin reäding over and signing them one by one. Most of it is things pertaining to wills and legal matters of becoming a King’s Ranger, along with a few forms that are to be filled out and signed. It takes you an hour or so to read and sign all the papers. After you finish you lean back with a sigh, that was boring, but you’re glady you’re done. Now all that is left is to take the papers to the palace. You figure you could stop by Wolfshield manor and see if Trista needs to do the same and join you.

You decide to go ahead and stop by at Trista’s place. You wager she has to do the same thing with her paperwork as well.

You walk out the door of your house and the sky is starting to get overcast, it might rain or snow soon, being this early in winter its hard to tell. You make your way over to Wolfshield manor after about 15 minutes of walking. You knock on the door and Trista answers.

“Oh, why hello Randal, its good to see you,” she says with a smile, “I was hoping you’d stop by, I wanted to thank you again for what you did last night. I really enjoyed that kiss, I couldn’t stop thinking of you all night.”

“Ah, well it was no trouble at all. I’m glad you’re not upset with me any more.” You say returning the smile.

“With a kiss as good as the one you gave me last night it would be hard to be upset at you, then again you are a bit of an idiot. So tell me what brings you here?”

”Oh well I’m headed to the palace to drop off these papers for joining the King’s Rangers, I thought you’d have to do the same and figured you’d like to join me.”

“Why certainly Randal, let me fetch my papers and I’ll join you.” she says leaving the door.

After a few moments she comes back outside and closes the door. You both begin walking towards the palace.

What do you say to Trista while walking?

”So how is Tyrel’s training as a King’s Guard going?” you ask Trista as you both leave the estate.

“Well enough I guess, he leaves very early in the morning and doesn’t come home till midnight, so I haven’t really gotten to ask him,” responds Trista. “But he hasn’t complained about it to mother or father so I guess he likes it. We should see him around the palace, so perhaps we’ll get to ask him ourselves.”

You assume thats right, especially considering after turning in the paperwork you’ll be going to see the king, and more than likely Tyrel with him.

“So what do you think we’ll be doing as rangers Trista?”

“I don’t know yet, but I assume one of our duties for sure will be watching our kingdom’s northern border with the barbarians. I haven’t looked at any of those books we bought yesterday, but we can read them on our way up to the King’s Rangers headquarters.”

“That makes sense,” you confirm. After a few more minutes of walking you arrive at the palace, the guards at the gate let you pass and you enter inside after walking through the courtyard. Inside you’re greeted by a steward.

“Ah Lord Tallstag and Lady Wolfsheild, we’ve been expecting you. I’ll take those papers of yours and guide you to the throne room.”

You both hand him your papers and follow after him. He leads you down a few hallways until you arrive at the throne room.

“Ah Randal, Trista, please do come forward,” beckons King Frostclaw from his throne as both of you are lead into the room. “I’ve been expecting you two. Are you ready to officially become a member of the King’s Rangers?”

>”Yes my king, I am ready to offer my services to you and to the kingdom.”

”Yes m’lord,” you say promptly as both you and Trista kneel down before the steps leading to the throne.

“Very well then,” says King Frostclaw as he gets up from his throne and steps down towards you. “Now repeat after me. I, your name, promise to uphold the laws and statues of the kingdom, to carryout the King’s orders and to bring justice to all that would disobey. I swear my life to the King’s Rangers until such a time has come that I am relieved of my duty as such.”

You and Trista repeat the words, and after a moment of silence the king speaks again as he draws his sword and taps you both on your shoulders with the flat of his blade.

“Then I, Richard Frostclaw, King of Whitestar, dub thee Lord Randal Tallstag and Lady Trista Wolfshield, as full fledged King’s Rangers. Arise.”

“Thank you King Frostclaw,” you both say rising to your feet, “we are honored.”

“Good to hear I’m certain you will both serve well. You should both relax today, you may not get a chance again on the road to the headquarters of the King’s Rangers. I believe someone you both know will see you out.”

As the King says that and heads back up to his throne, you turn to see Tyrel behind you in a suit of armor holding a halberd.

“Hey guys, it feel like it’s been forever since I’ve seen you both.”

“Tyrel! I’ve missed you!” Yells Trista throwing herself at Tyrel to hug him. Tyrel, caught off guard, nearly falls over at Trista doing so.

“And I’ve missed you to sister, come follow me, I’ll walk both of you out, the king is expecting other guests and we need to clear the palace for their arrival.”

You both agree and walk out of the throne room. Once you all arrive at the courtyard, you decide to speak to Tyrell.

What do you say?

”Its good to see you again Tyrel, being in the King’s Guard must be a busy life,” you say, offering a handshake.

“Its good to see you as well Randal,” replies Tyrel, shaking your hand firmly. “And it is very busy, with training early in the mornings, with guard duty all day and into the evening, its very busy. I’ve never been so tired, but I already feel very accomplished so thats good.”

“So how are you liking the King’s Guard? And how is the training?”

“Despite me being busy, I’m really enjoying the King’s Guard. I’m really learning quite a bit from the senior members, they are very wise. Not to mention the palace walls and towers provide a wondrous view of the city,” Tyrel continues. “No the training, that is very rigorous, there are sometimes so many drills and exercises I feel like my mind and body are going to give out and its only been two days. But all in all, I’m enjoying every bit of it.”

“Well that’s good to hear, I’m glad for you Tyrel,” you respond with a smile.

“Thanks, it was good talking to both of you, but I’ve got to head back now, don’t want to úpset the captian. See you guys later!”

Tyrel head back inside as you and Trista wave goodbye to him. Its almost noon now but the sky is overcast and its just slightly starting to sprinkle rain.

Trista turns to you and asks, “Well what should we do with our last day in the city Randal?”

“How bout we walk around the city one last time and then go for a drink at an inn?”

Trista smiles and replies, “Randal, you’ve read my mind. Lets do that.”

You both walk around the city for a few hours, taking in the sights and the people. You walk by the Wall of the Past Kings, a large marble mural with the names of the past kings of Whitestar and their deed that they accomplished. You marvel at the street performers in the city square, ones that swallow swords, spit fire, and juggle knives. You both chat about how excited you are to join the King’s Rangers and what you’ll do. Trista talks about how she wants to be a scouting ranger just like her father was back in the day, and how she wants to eventually help take back the northern part of the kingdom. She seems very passionate about being a ranger, you get the feeling she’ll do well as one.

After a little more walking and chatting Trista speaks up, “Randal, I think I’m ready for a drink now.”

You nod your head in agreement, “Me too,. Hey look, there’s an inn over there. Lets go in and have pint or two.”

You both head inside and find a table to sit at, after a moment young blonde haired woman with an apron and regular clothes stops by your table to take your order.

“What’ll you two lovebirds be having this evening?”

”My friend and I would like some ale o honeyed mead please.”

“Friend? Oh sorry, you two just seemed like a lovely couple, and sure honeyed mead coming up.” The waitress leaves to go fetch your drinks.

You look over to Trista who seems to be blushing at the waitresses statement.

“See Randal? I told you we’re perfect for each other,” she says. Seeing that that statement made you visibly nervous she laughs and speaks again. “ You idiot, I’m kidding Randal I know how you feel, you made it clear last night.”

“Oh yeah, sure.” you chuckle. The waitress comes back just in time with your drinks just in time. You take a nervous swig of your mead. After a few swigs you don’t feel so on edge anymore. Yu look around the inn to see some men playing darts, others playing cards, and others just eating and drinking. After a few minutes a burly man walks over and sits down at your table, he is clearly drunk.

“‘Ello dere lassie, you’re a mighty cute on aren’t ya’? How’s bout you and me get a room for the night an ‘ave some fun? Eh? Eh?” he says as he starts to try to put his hands on Trisa.

“Oh! Please don’t, sorry but I’m not interested,” Trista says pushing the man away gently.

“Oh come on! I ‘aven’t had a good goin’ in a while, and I’d love to fuck you girly.” The man goes at her again trying to grope her breats. Trista gives you a look and mouths to you to help her.

”Hey! Stop trying to grope my friend, you’d best be leaving.” you say in a commanding voice to the drunken lout.

“Oy, why don’ you piss off laddy? No one’s talkin’ to you, you prick.” The drunk man says hatefully followed by him spitting at your boots.

“Yeah? Well I’m talking to you jackass, now leave her alone. She’s not interested.” You say standing up from the table.

The drunk man cocks his head slightly to the side. “What’s that? Did you just call me a jackass? Oh you’re gunna pay for that laddy!” The man gets up from the table as well and puts his fists up and walks towards you. The other people in the bar take notice at the drunken man’s shouting. Some of them start to cheer on and yell to fight.

Well too late to go back now, you think to yourself. You put your fists up and get ready to fight.

Boxing has some tactics, but a drunken barfight doesn't. We're inebriated and not the most skilled at hand to hand combat. And if our tactics actually gave us modifiers to combat/actions, I'd try them more. But I think no matter what we try, it's gonna be heavily roll dependent anyway, so we might as well just follow along with the normal/defense/offense suggestions for now.

Well. I sit corrected.

Gents, we must fight smart, not hard. But let's see where this goes first.

You focus this time before you make a move. You calm yourself and watch your opponent for an opening. As the drunken man blinks you move forward quickly and punch him square in the nose before he can react, you think you hear a crack as you punch him.

“Argh! Bastard!” he yells as he moves back out of your reach, holding his nose, blood begins to pour from it as he puts his guard back up. You’ve really pissed him off now, this time he comes at you full force.

The drunken man runs towards you full force, but you can read his attack from a mile away. You duck right as he swings and grab his waist. You use his forward motion and large body to suplex him over you and into a nearby table.

The man lands into the table headfirst, causing it to break and shatter. As he does, the entire inn lets out a gasp. The man doesn’t get up, one man in the back yells. “Holy shit is he dead?”

another person says “ Well that was short, ol’ Vilkan had it coming though.”

You breath a heavy sigh as the adrenaline subsides and you rub your jaw, you didn’t realize how big of a bruise that man left.

I guess this is alright.
First checking to see if we didn't commit homicide, then we check on bestgirl to see if she's doing good.
Then we do whatever else.

You decide you better check on the poor drunken bastard and see if he’s alive. You kneel down over him and check his pulse, its good and strong, his breathing is normal too. He does have a broken nose and a large gash on his head, but you figure thay serves him right for picking a fight.
That reminds you of how the fight started, Trista! You get up quickly and go over to her.

“Trista, are you alright?” you ask in a concerned tone.

“You dumbass!” She yells. “Why’d ypu have to go and pick a fight? What if you had gotten badly hurt?”

You take a step back, “Whoa, sorry I just didn’t like the way he was behaving towards ypu, and besides I told him to leave first. And don’t worry I can handle myself.”

Trista’s face changes from angry to concerned. “I know, but its just seeing you get hit like that...and look you have a bruise now.” she says grabbing a hankerchief from her pocket pour some her mead and rubbing your wound with it. You wince slightly at the pain as Trista continues. “What if you had gotten hurt badly? What would I have done then? I just worry about you Randal, I can’t stand to see you in pain.”

“I’m sorry Trista, I didn’t mean to make you worried.”
>>
>>39621880
And this is why we shouldn't pick fights. You make bestgirl worry.

Just then the owner of the inn interrupts your conversation. He looks to be a middle aged man with blonde hair and a beard. He’s followed by two big imposing men that look to be bartenders, they also sport the same beards as the owner. You’d wager they are his sons.

“Excuse me, but sir you’re going to have to pay for the damages caused by that fight and for your drinks. I’m also going to have to ask you to leave before you cause any more trouble.”

“ I see, and I’m terribly sorry for all that.” you say bowing your head. “How much do I owe you for the drinks and damages?”

“All in all, you owe me 15 gold pieces. 10 for the table and 5 for the honeyed mead drinks.” says the owner with a gruff tone.

“Very well here you are. And I’ll be on my way, sorry again.” You hand the money to the owner and leave with Trista. It did go better than you expected, at least you didn’t get thrown out. Not to mention on your way out, many of the customers there cheer for you and whistle. Some of the women even give you lustful looks and wink at you.

You walk out side and see that the sun has set and the sky has cleared up, revealing a full moon.

“Well now what do we do?” Asks Trista.

>”Say lets go to the park and and sit by the fountains, its nice out now."
>”Its getting late, we should go to bed, come, I’ll walk you home.”
>”We can go to another tavern, I’d still like to drink.”

Women throw themselves at us left and right. My new goal by the end of this quest is to stay chaste and smite evil as a Ranger.

well Randal is a handsome young man like his father was back in the say, who was known to be quite the womanizer. Also your brother, before he died was also quite the handsome ladies man.

”Say lets go to the park and and sit by the fountains, its nice out now." You mention with a smile.

“That sounds absolutely wonderful Randal lets do that.” gleams Trista. The moonlight reflects off of her white skin making her seem as if she has a glow about her. She looks absolutely stunning, and you feel your pulse racing now and your palms are getting sweaty.

What the hell is going on? You’ve never felt this way before. Is this what it feels like to truely love someone? As you think about these things you’re snapped back to reality by Trista grabbing your hand.

“Come on, lets go to the park, I want to sit and watch the fountains.” Trista beckons, leading you to the park.

After a few minutes of walking you both arrive at the park and sit down on a bench facing one of the ornate fountains. The fountain has depictions of the Goddess Sindas and her watching over two lovers kissing. Water flows out from underneath their feet and into the pool below, all the while it sparkles in the moonlight.

Trista scoots over closer to you on the bench and you can feel her shivering.

“Randal, I’m cold, will you hold me so I can get warm?” She asks looking up to you. Her icy blue eyes seem the brightest they’ve ever been and her rose red hair shines in the moonlight.

>”Umm...sure of course Trista.”
>”Here take my over shirt I don’t need it.”
>"Certainly Trista, come here, I'll warm you up."
>say nothing and stare off nervously at the fountain.

here is some music to help set the mood as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tsno9RSI_hE

tell me if you guys like that or not, I'd like to do it at various points in the story to help set moods and tones.

I like it, but it seems a bit ominous. Is shit about to go down?

I'm not opposed, I don't know that I would have picked that particular track, though. It seems more tense/dark than what we're going through.

"Certainly Trista, come here, I'll warm you up." You say with a smile.

Trista smiles back and moves even closer, leaning against you. You put an arm around her and look up at the night sky. Its really peaceful and beautiful out now. You feel so at ease.

“Mmm Randal, thanks for today.” Trista says softly. “I really enjoyed it.”

“It’s no trouble at all.” You respond. “And sorry again for getting into a fight, I really didn’t mean to worry you.”

“Its okay Randal, you were just protecting me that’s all. But...if you ever get hurt badly and don’t die I’m going to kick your ass for making me worry.”

“Uh, sure you got it Trista.” You say nervously.

“Good.”

After about ten minutes of peacefully listening to the the fountain bubble, Trista speaks up again.

“Randal, I’m ready to go home, but can you kiss me goodnight before we do? I won’t ask anything more because I remember what you said last night, but can you at least kiss me?

>”Sure, Trista, I’d love too.”
>”Actually Trista I’ve grown more fond of you now, I’m willing to kiss you and do other things.” (take her virginity
>”I’m sorry Trista, but I’d think it would be best if we didn’t kiss.”

Might as well. Doubt the Rangers will like us kissing her when we show up for training, so let's get it out now.

Thanks anon, that song goes way better with the mood i was trying to set, and no need to apologize, I liked the song.
>>
>>39622952
Tales games seem to have a nice wide range of emotions that aren't super awful, so if you're in need and can't think of any other song for the mood, I'd recommend just scouring through some of the OSTs from that series.

”Sure, Trista, I’d love too.” You say with a smile as you look deep into her eyes. Trista leans forward and so do you, your lips meet and you feel a rush of adrenaline, your heartbeat quickens and you begin to sweat a bit. Trista’s fingers run through your hair as she holds you tight and moans slightly. Her other hand begins to slowly move up your leg, suddenly she stops herself and pulls away.

“I’m sorry Randal, I didn’t mean to do that. I just got caught up in the moment.”

“Its okay, I’m glad you stopped yourself. That kiss was amazing though. That being said we should head home.” You say rising up off the bench and offering Trista a hand.

“Alright, lets go, we’ve got a big day tomorrow.”

With that you both head off and you walk Trista home, she hugs you goodnight and turns in. You walk back home and head to sleep as well. Before falling asleep you think how this will be last time you’ll probably sleep this good for a long time.

----------

Far to the North, in barbarian lands, and army marches southward through a blizzard, torches from the army light up the mountain pass.

“Move!” A large man a scarred face, a long beard, and an axe in hand yells over the wind. “We have to reach Northwind castle and take it before Winter ends, or we’ll never conquer the southlands!”

The army continues to march into the night.

that's a wrap folks, thanks for running!

I'll stay up to answer questions alittle longer and archive the thread.

I'll run tomorrow as well. Keep an eye on the twitter just in case.
