“So, what’s next-” the door to the kitchen bursts open, as Eliza appears, horror in her eyes.

“Maggy,” Eliza breathes heavily, “we can’t find her!”

---

Welcome to Magical Soldier Quest! Where you play Akane Shogo, an ex-member of the most deadly squad of mortals on the planet. But once you killed a Witch all by your lonesome, you were recruited by the Em-Gees, or Magical Girls, and you’ve been one hell of a team mate since, killing Witches and cooking food since.

And yet, now, it appears you’ve made your first, and biggest, mistake.

---

”W-Wait, what?” you demand, shocked by the news. “What happened to her?”

Eliza shrugs, still panting. “I...I just realized when we got back that we never had Maggy with us. Somehow, we left her behind, or she left herself...” Eliza shakes her head, turning to George. “Do you remember where we saw her last?”

George shrugs. “I do not know this Maggy person. She never ascended the mountain, and I don’t recall seeing her afterwards.”

Eliza turns to you. “What about you, Shogo? Surely you remember where she went?”

“...Sorry, Eliza. I remember her being with us when we were with Sue, but not after that.”

“Then where could she have gone?”

“...Well, Shogo?” Eliza asks.

You nod. “I remember. She definitely did disappear. But it was because someone took her.”

Eliza looks rather alarmed at this. “You’re saying that something managed to kidnap an Em-Gee without us even realizing?”

You grimace. “Well, whatever it was, it...changed what I remembered. But not thoroughly enough. It prevented my eyes from remembering it, but there are other senses...”

“You lost one of your girls?” you look up to where Robin is peeking around the corner. “You know, we’ve got access to one hell of a surveillance network. We can help you look, if you want.”

Eliza smiles. “Perfect! And I can head back to Haioku, grab some Em-Gees to join us!

“Alright then! Eliza, you grab who you think would be b est for a rescue mission. Robin, to be fair, I was your coworker for six years, and I only remember you using the surveillance camera to look up skirts. I’ll join you so you remember we’ve got a job to do.”

Robin pouts, muttering “spoilsport” under her breath before turning around and heading to the surveillance room, you following her.

You soon arrive, and you take note of a few extra monitors added to a room where even the floor is a giant screen, albeit a static map of the area. The walls themselves have more tech on them, a few keyboards suspended on wall-mounted desks, a few looking like they were being used recently.

You walk over to one already set up, and start tapping in search terms. Of course, you don’t really know what to look for. But hey, you can figure it out, right?

Once again, you find yourself needing to use your magical abilities. Handing over the keyboard to Robin and giving her an idea for what to look for (“glitches in the camera system, tearing, repeated frames, stuff like that”) you sit back down on the floor again, and concentrate.

Okay, so you’ve never really used Magical Radar before outside of Witchspace. But the Cookingspace was pretty damn large, right? You should be able to handle it.

Pain.

The sensation of pain burns into your skull, like a bright light into sensitive eyes, tearing away at the coverings and protection. Even as the pain rushes on, you seek your target, slowly shutting your mind again till the borders come down to near you, a few miles in radius. Large, to be sure, and your head is still having spikes driven through it, but nothing like the...pain from before.

Slowly, you figure out where you’re meant to be looking.

“Robin, concentrate your search in a four block radius near the apartment store one block south of the Willis Tower.”

Robin nods, giving you a glance and then continuing to stare. “Uh, Shogo? You don’t look so good.” she rubs her finger under her nose, and you copy her, staring at your own finger as it comes away covered in blood. You soon realize that your nose is bleeding rather heavily. You also feel your own magical core ticking quietly, reacting to the high magic use.

>Magical Stress! Seriously, holy shit, you can’t get swole by benching 300 pounds straight away. Too much may result in the core ticking over to save you. Currently at 2/3 Stress.
>Of course, by pushing yourself to the limits you get consistently better. So it’s a balancing game between growing stronger, and not instantly becoming a god.

“Ah, I found it!” Robin declares, pulling you up from your cross-legged position. She indicates a monitor where a repeating video loop is playing of a glitch in the air slowly walking through a crowd, holding onto something else...

Maggy.
>>
>>39698364

Finally, Eliza bursts back into the room, a phone up against her ear. “Did you find her?” she gasps.

You nod, and Eliza sighs. “Good. Well, what girls do you want? We’ve got to punish whoever tried to steal one of my girls.

”The Magical Threat Response Team asks that you calmly evacuate the area. Any money or items lost will be refunded by the city council once the current emergency resolves itself. Thank you for listening.”

The loudspeakers on every corner surrounding the immediate area of the apartment store shout out into the night. You spot many people starting to leave, notable for paying attention to the Don’t Panic message. With the gates becoming relatively more common over the years, and much less dangerous with the MTRT’s and Em-Gee’s working together on crushing any threat, most citizens considered it a fun way to figure out how much money they could make on lying about what they had on them at the time. You yourself remember your dad handing in one of those forms, straight faced, while a council representative with his own straight face commented on the sheer misfortune of losing seven kilos of gold in one night. It didn’t matter, either way: the Em-Gees were remarkably loose about giving away free money, and it took quite a lot to upset an economy.

As the last civilian leaves the area, the MTRT moves in, quickly securing the area, before stumbling upon the first of the demons.

Looking on the demons now, you realize that you can feel the magic in all of them, keeping them alive and moving. You also recognize that you could probably extinguish them relatively easily, if you wanted to. Nevertheless, you’ve got your own job to do.

“Ready, Shogo?” Eliza asks. The team is surrounding you, ready to move in. Eliza herself is draped in a few weapon slings. Tony, wearing what seems to be a military uniform, excluding the short skirt (he sends a shrug your way when you raise an eyebrow at him). Roland and Matey are both grinning as a slightly flushed Alice hands the both of them some weapons. You yourself are wearing your armor, and the “Kiss the Chef” apron you got from Sue. You even have the new shotgun from Alice slung across your shoulder.

"Ready?" you ask. "I'm-"

”-so fucking ready. Just have a few questions before we head in there.” you turn to your scarf. “George? I forgot to ask you, but do you know what the hell could’ve done all this?”

George hums. “Most likely? You’re going against a very powerful Witch, or a Fallen.”

“Fallen?”

Eliza interrupts. “I guess you’re not familiar with all the lingo. We obviously know that Em-Gees and Witches aren’t all that different, just that the latter may be more likely to be evil, since they can form directly from a concentration of negative emotions. But if an Em-Gee, specifically, goes bad, enough to give up their morals, then they are Fallen.”

“What if their morals weren’t that great to begin with?”

Eliza frowns. “I guess. But usually Em-Gees are pretty decent to begin with.”

You nod, and look back to your scarf. “One last question, George. I stressed myself out a bit using so much magic earlier. How good am I if I need to use it again?”

George sighs. “You’re close, Shogo. I can tell you that. If that Memory thing you pulled wasn’t bad enough, then you went and tried to scan the entire world, even if for only a few seconds. I’d...try to avoid using any more if you can. You should be good to Absorb, if you must, but be careful reforming and creating your own magic.”

“Got it.” you turn back to the department store. “I guess we should get to work.”

4: Take a shot every time Shogo tells the laws of physics to fuck off

”Right, let’s start on the roof.” you suggest. The group nods, and you lead them off, quickly ascending the wall of the department store till you reach the roof. You notice several of the MTRT grunts watching you with a mixture of admiration and jealousy. You certainly understand that feel.

Once you reach the roof, you find a rather large hole in the world in the centre of the roof.

“That was quick,” Roland mutters, hefting his sword.

Matey nods, liftin’ iz own dakka, lookin’ reel suspicious like it woz a tank dakka. “Roland’z roight. Somethin’z off.”

Eliza nods. “Well, what happens? Do we go in?”

You step forward after a few seconds, taking care to watch where you go. Soon enough, you’re near enough by the portal that you can feel the gate between the worlds without straining yourself. You can’t feel anything wrong about the gate itself, but you sense presences waiting for you. Including something the shape of Maggy.

”Alright, let’s take this slow,” you say, “I don’t really know how we’re meant to approach this, though.”

Tony frowns. “We could open another portal and get in on another side of the Witchspace, if they’re waiting for us,” he suggests.

You grin. “That’s perfect. Right on the opposite side, would you kindly.”

Tony nods, and closes his eyes, magic quickly surrounding him as you feel another hole tearing open in reality. You can sense movement on the side of the original gate as the new one opens, but the distance between the two is large enough they won’t make it in time if you’re quick to get through and get ready.

“Alright, move!” you order, stepping forth into the new gate.

And you come out on the other side, finding yourself inside your parent’s old living room again. You recognize the same style of spells set up as in Sue’s prison, the memory magic forcing you to see what your head gave it.

You wait a few seconds, but the only person who tumbles out of the portal is Matey.

“Uh, Matey? Where are the others?”

”Hey, Matey, what do you see right now?”

Matey givs anovver shrug. “Steel corridors. Nuthin’ special. Magick circles everywhere, though.”

“Would you mind if you lead me, then? I can’t really see much of anything right now.” You curiously attempt to ping your surroundings, but your headache only grows stronger, revealing only what Matey just told you about the corridors. At least you have some idea of where to go, at least.

“Sure, boss,” Matey grumblz as ‘e walks alongs, keepin’ ‘is dakka at da ready. You follow, your own weapons raised and ready. The shotgun you were provided by Alice responds nicely to your touch, and you can feel the energy drain where your Absorbed (and now true) magic could go. Of course, probably not a good idea to try that right now.

Slowly, you both make your ways through the halls, until you stumbled upon an open area-

Where you find Marie, looking away from you, watching over what appears to be a pit of mortal humans fighting each other like gladiators. You can guess they’re all men.

Marie turns, and stares. And slowly gets more and more angry. “You,” she spits.

“Me,” you reply, keeping the deadpan.

“You fucking animal who just can’t remember where he belongs. Who can’t figure out that he’s less than dirt, a piece of shit marring my world.” Marie sneers. “But that’s over now. Fuck Eliza and her cowering before you apes. I’m done with this shit of letting you men-” she spits that word too, “-take the charge. So now, I’ve started to put you back in your natural habitat.” she indicates the pit, where the men continue to fight. “With some help, I’ve managed to get them to realize exactly what they are.”

Matey lookz at da hoomies before lookin’ bak at da Em-Gee. “Ey, dat’z sum reel shit roight there. They’z been mind-wiped. If we’z did da same to you, same thing wud ‘appen.”

Marie glares at the ork. “You’re even more of an animal. No matter. That mind wipe reverted them to their natural state of being. Doing the same to me would mean nothing.”

“’Ow about we’z try dat out?” Matey offerz.

Welp.

Let's punch her in the face for being an ass and continually spout proof as to why her actions damn her belief system.

Nothing like rational arguments + punching in the face.
>>
I very much doubt this is the real cause it seems all too easy. Not to mention far outside of Marie's powers to accomplish.

I do love watching my chaos unfold though.
>>
>>39700904
Regardless of whether it's real or not, it would no doubt be cathartic to punch her in her face.
For us and Shogo both.
>>
>>39700530

And Marie begins to fight. Like nothing you’ve ever seen before. She quickly gathers a ton of energy, unlimited it seems, from the tell-tale wisps of darkness, due to a lack of control.

All the better, in the end. For who, you don’t know.

And she lets it go, aimed squarely at you. The lightning races towards you, and you allow yourself to brace against the floor, and prepare to Absorb.

The energy pours through you. More energy than you can handle. Far, far more energy than you can handle. Your magical core ticks faster and faster, coming closer and closer to turning over, but you ignore it, taking the energy and routing it straight through the floor, holding onto none of it. You can’t risk that right now. But you keep enough to send right back at the colossal bitch. Even as it passes through you, you passively adjust the strings of magic just so, to become that much more lethal, that much more dangerous. You figure you’ve got a hand on this style of magic.

Marie screams as the energy courses through her body again, and without the self-imposed limits you watch in horror as Marie’s skin comes off in chunks, her own face scarred and destroyed by the lightning. And she falls to the ground, dead.

Matey coughz. “Uh, boss? Even for me’z, a bit overkill.”

You shrug. “She was trying to do more than that to me. Like hell I was gonna take it.

Matey frownz. “Still. It’z too eazy. Dere’z summat about ‘dis I don’t like.”

“I...would have to agree, Matey. That was way too fucking easy.” you walk on over, keeping a little bit of distance between you nad her. Too easy, and you really don’t trust her. And you can’t even find a stick to poke her wi-

“Well, it seems you’ve broken my toy.” the voice echoes from around you, from inside you, reverberating around the room and also passing straight through it. “Such a shame. It was a fun toy, too. Easy to play around with.”

“”Ey, Who’s d’ere?” Matey roarz, shoutin’ to the ceiling. “Show yerself!”

(1/2)
>>
>>39701186

The voice chuckles. “No, I think I won’t. You’ve decided to invade my domain, so you need to be punished, certainly not rewarded with a glance at my face.”

You step forward at this point. “We came for Maggy! And if you don’t let her go, then I’ll grind you into a fine paste and remove you from every dimension there is.”

The voice starts to laugh. “How precious! Alright then, if you so wish to kill yourselves. Then how about we first make you realize that in the end, you’re far, far worse than me.”

At those words, the world starts to go hazy. You feel the magic enchanting the halls creeping inside you, even as you realize that it’s been doing that ever since you appeared here, and you fade away, into another world, one just as dark and miserable as this one.

Roight, so you *cough* no hoomies lookin’ now, you can think a bit smarter. Funny how amusin’ they find da accent. As if anyone could ‘ave an apostrophe every other word. More like once a sentence, or summat like that.

Anyway, you grab da movin’ sorf fing. “Oi, George, roight?”

The sorf nods. “Yes, that’s me.”

“What’s ‘appenin’ with da hoomie?”

The sorf bends slightly. “He’s currently...not here. That’s his body, for sure, but his soul is elsewhere, in another time and place. He’ll be fine, but we need to take care of his body first.”

Roight. You grab da hoomie and wrap ‘im ‘round yer shoulders. Fireman’s carry, Rolan’ ‘ad called it. Course, you ain’t on fire, but Shogo probably wouldn’t appreciate dat. Now, your job’s ta find yer friends. Dey can ‘elp Shogo, or keep ‘im safe.

Ya scent the air for yer friends, but ya can’t find anything in da immediate area.

“Oi, George. Can ya find da friends?”

“I think so. Take a left outside this area.”

You follow ‘is directions an’ run into a pack’a demons.

Aliz was reel careful ‘bout yer not showin’ dis toy off to Shogo. “E’ll steal it off ya back, ‘e will,” she warned. Course, Shogo didn’t seem like dat kinda hoomie, but hey, ya never know.

But now was da time.

For da ultimate dakka.

No dakka like it.

Cuz it’s actually a Melta, not a dakka.

It’z a bit ‘eavy, but just enuff ta need two ‘ands. You tried askin’ for a Multi-Melta, and after Aliz stopped quiverin’ on da floor she said “buy me dinna & a movie firs’.” Ya don’t know what dat means, but this was all ya could get.

And it’s definitely enuff.

Da demons all run at ya, and ya just hold down the trigger an’ let the Melta do the rest.

After about five seconds, the screams start, drawn out even from the demons.

After seven seconds, they abruptly stop again, nothing left to scream from.

After ten seconds, there aren’t enough component elements between the piles of ash to make one set of vocal cords.

Dis is definitely enuff. You holsta the gun again, and keep movin’.

An’ ya run into da group.

“Matey! You’re alright!” Rolan’ exclaims, but ‘e stops when ‘e sees Shogo on yer shoulder. “Oh, fuck. What happened, Matey?”

Ya giv da rundown on da encounta wit Marie. Eliza getz all angry lookin’, and stalks off into da space. The others make room for Shogo on da floor, where Rolan’ and Tony look over ‘im. Tony casts a few Stasis spells, keepin’ ‘im safe. For now.

“So, Rolan’, iz he gonna be alroight?”

Rolan’ shrugz. “I don’t know, Matey. I don’t know.

You’re in a place that now seems awkwardly familiar to you. Your old family’s room. But your mother isn’t facing off against one of those things. Your dad’s body isn’t lying against the wall, gun in his dead hands. No, he’s sitting in a chair, reading. He smiles as you look up at here.

“Hey there, Shogo, my boy. What’s bothering you?”

You feel a lump in your throat, but you can’t seem to get it out. “Nothing, Dad.”

He smiles wider. “Alright, Shogo. Now, Mom should be coming home soon from work. Fancy trying to cook something to welcome her back?”

You grin at your dad. “I’d love to! Thanks, Dad.”

He waves it off. “Just be careful with the oven. And tell your mother I supervised you, or something.”

You trot off into the kitchen, and quickly get what you need. Three hundred twenty five grams of flour. Two hundred grams butter. One hundred twenty five grams of sugar. Two egg yolks (Eggs are yicky). Two teaspoons of vanilla essence (Tastes nice in biscuits, NOT straight from bottle). You think that’s it.

You hear a crash from the backyard as you set everything in the oven.

You quickly put down the cooking supplies and head outside to see what the commotion is about. You slowly exit through the back door located in the kitchen. Outside, there’s a nice breeze in the air. Maybe you can go to the park with mom and dad before dinner.

That doesn’t really bother you, when you see the mess that the backyard has become. As opposed to the clean and green expanse that it was, now it’s a wasteland, a crater located in the centre. Inside you find a familiar shape, that you’ve seen at least once before in your life.

Slowly, your mom stands up inside the crater, and smiles at you sadly. “Hey there honey. Sorry about the entrance.”

---

Another memory. Earlier this time. You feel younger, and your body feels even less responsive. But you still remember what you heard.

“This isn’t what you promised!” you hear your father say Except his voice is higher. Different, yet still familiar. You can’t see him, around the corner, but you can spot your mother at least, talking to him in your view. She’s wearing the same thing that she had on in the crater, except less battered and bruised. Looking more regal, in a way.

“I know it wasn’t, but it was necessary!”

“Necessary? Revealing yourself? Think about the council-”

“-Honestly, fuck the council. I figure that in a few years, unless we actually respond, something is gonna come along and show exactly how much we fucked up by not doing this.”

“And what about the child?”

Silence. Then, “We can find him another home-”

“-No.” Your father is angry. Very angry. “We have a responsibility.”

“To the people of this world!”

“To my son. I hereby withdraw from the Covenant, and allow myself to once again to be protected by those who protect-"

"-ARE YOU INSANE- "

"and may those who do find success where I didn't."

A flash. Silence. And then, in his deep voice, your father says, "So, honey, what would you like for dinner?"

You feel the dreams fade away again, and you feel more control over your actions now, as you come closer to the present time again. You feel the memories pour away, but you hold onto the few that matter, the knowledge inside precious.

“SHOGO!”

And you’re finally pulled out all the way. When you open your eyes, you find yourself on a carpeted floor, in what appears to be your old house’s entrance hallway. So that’s still not taken care of, then.

You see Eliza and the others standing over you, watching. Eliza herself crouches down next to you, worry apparent in her eyes. “Shogo? Are you okay? What happened?”

You wave her off. “Nothing important right now. What is, is that Marie is working for whatever Witch runs this place.”

Eliza chokes on that. “She turned?” Eliza’s face goes pale at the words. “Has she Fallen?”

You shrug. “Honestly, Eliza, I think that it’s possible Marie’s morals are certainly bad enough to go bad without needing to abandon them. Might just be me, though.”

Eliza nods, and helps you stand up, draping your left arm over her shoulders. “Alright, do we know where we need to go?”

Matey lif’z ‘is ‘and. “Aye. I see da hallz plain, no magick on dem.”

“Then lead the way, Matey, to whoever is doing this.”

Soon enough the group is walking along what seems to be your house, though you are clued in enough to guess your house doesn’t go on and repeat for what seems like miles. With what you remember from the quick Ping you did, though, you’re getting closer to the epicentre of the Witchspace.

Soon enough, you’re only a few corridors away from what you assume to be the lair.

“Alright, so what’s the battle plan? Since Shogo seems to be out of action...” Eliza starts

”You guys go ahead. I think I can just rest here. Remember to be careful, though.”

Eliza nods, and leans you against a wall close to the entrance of the centre. “Sure. We can take care of it from now.”

You watch as your group of friends keeps moving into the next room, the gate swallowing them and revealing nothing. Now you’re all alone, in your parents’ living room, waiting.

You shift slightly, trying to find the most comfortable position. Your entire body, while not as painful as it was before, is certainly aching, and isn’t holding up too well. You used way too much of your own magic recently, and it’s coming back to bite you.

With some effort, you stand up again, and peer at the gate. Still an unshifting magical surface, revealing nothing of what’s behind it.

So you sit down, and wait for a bit.

Five minutes.

Alright. Looks like you have to do something, at the least. You walk up to the portal, and slowly push your face through, so you can see what’s going on. As your head slowly sinks through, you wonder about what may be waiting on the other side, but you’re too far gone.

And then, you’re looking upon the centre of the Witchspace. In horror.

All around you you can see the fractured images of your memories, your worst memories. The walls repeating that dreadful night, your mother standing before the creature, blazing light in hand that you now recognize as a sword, and taking a gun from your dad’s hands, a faded magical circle scarred into his palm, and the Witch herself looking on in terror as you rip her apart and destroy her.

Definitely not good memories. The landscape itself is no better, constantly shifting, never standing still for more than a few seconds. And as the obstacles and pits move, you manage to make out your team standing in the centre of it all.

They really don’t look like they’re doing too well. Eliza’s panting, streaks of red running down her face and arms, but still holding onto the two hand cannons she’s firing at...something. Matey’s roight next ta’er, WAAAGHing roighteously as ‘e fires ‘is dakka at da same ting. Roland himself is carrying Tony in one arm, who even with what appears to be a broken leg is constantly hurling out orbs of what appear to be refined darkness, the other hand cleaving around him, cutting up...

Nothing. All of them are fighting nothing.

“It’s a funny sight, isn’t it?”

You feel the entire arena shift around you, pulling you through the door in a pile. You grunt as you hit the ground, and attempt to get up before seeing a woman before you. She grins.

“Ah, it’s refreshing to see that something can actually stand up to their worst memories. I’d be more entertained if you could kill me, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

Okay. For this, it’s worth it. Whatever comes next, you’ve got to bear it. So grabbing some magic from your surroundings, you Ping the area, feeling the information flooding into your brain. Instantly, you know that the magical blasts are fake. So is everything else in the room. Your friends aren’t battling against nothing, they aren’t battling at all. Instead, they’re watching you from where they hang on the wall to your left, horror written on their faces.

And a woman isn’t in front of you, or anywhere in the room. Just one large, pulsating mass of pure darkness that you realize has been seeping into you for a long time.

And that single ping of yours just ignited the fire.

You scream in pain as you feel energy rushing through you. The mass cackles, and attempts to hit you with a true blast of concentrated darkness. But it never gets to that point. The magic inside of you, convulsing and running through your veins with an abject fury, filling up your magical core until finally, for the first time in one hell of a long time, it turns over, and starts up.

You collapse to the floor, panting, your hands barely keeping you off the ground. You definitely feel weaker than before, but your sense of magic feels...heightened to the point of insanity. You can feel magical enchantments around your core, constricting it, slowly slowing it down until you know it’ll inevitably stop again. But for now...

For now, you feel more powerful than you ever have. You have no doubt that even pouring milk into a bowl of cereal would cause it to glow incandescently. And with something as simple as plain old fightan?

You slowly stand up, looking towards the mass of darkness, which has now paused at the new developments. And you grin at it, very, very slowly.

“Alright fucker. Time to take the gloves off.”

>You're an Em-Gee! But for whatever reason, your core is starting to slow down again. You don't have long till that fades, and you're not looking forward to the toll on your body from that.

Any lurkers fancy dropping in to vote?

Also, I may actually leave soon, gonna be doing some volunteer work.

Right, I'll write for Deconversion, leave on a cliffhanger, and then come back an hour later to finish off this thread. Good? Good.

Got caught up.

Not going to lie, Eliza was me during the cooking thing, and I gave up on the quest for a bit because of it. Good to see it's over. I'm a fast-food shitter without an inkling of knowing how to cook, so I got out since I couldn't contribute worth a damn.

You have to admit though, some pretty awesome moments.

After bothering to read it? Yeah. But most of the jokes were lost on me.

But you guys didn't really lose much by me not being there considering my last rolls were embarrassingly bad, and I wouldn't have helped much outside of probably not leaving Artemis feeling so alone at the end of that one thread.

To quote someone else, "Don't let him do it, he'll just fuck it up."

First of all, anon, that's perfectly fine. That cooking thing, while a ton of fun, should be a bit more rare, and relegated to a few posts per entire thread (as in, making breakfast). In that case, it went on for quite a while since I was looking for material. Glad to have you back.

Please roll, you guys need to fail at something at some point.

As the blast of darkness approaches, you seize upon it’s energy, quickly changing it to obey your commands, and send it right back along. But this time it’s different. This time, it’s a small ball, the size of a marble, concentrating all the darkness energy into pure matter.

And at that point the Laws that govern the universe realize that there’s actually something for them to do.

The mass of darkness screams as a singularity opens up within it, the super-concentrated marble collapsing in on itself and tearing a hole in the universe, much different to a gate. This wasn’t controlled, a needle slipping through: it was a sword cutting through the fabric of the universe, tearing it with no purpose apart from to destroy.

And despite the power of magic, that mass of darkness couldn’t do shit about a singularity right in the middle of it. Most of the mass is absorbed by it, the darkness trying to claw and break its way free, all to no purpose.

You watch as the singularity eventually closes, leaving only a small pile of darkness left. Even that fades away, revealing a battered and bruised woman, like the one you saw earlier. Except this woman has even paler skin, blue lines running up and down her arms. Whatever she was wearing before has been torn away, replaced only by a tattered dress of darkness.

“Impossible,” she whispers to the floor, as you walk on up. “T-that’s impossible. That’s not-”

You end it by placing your hand on her head, and Absorbing.

The Witch collapses. And you, filled to the brim with the most potent brew of magic ever, do the same.

You guys are fainting a lot

You wake up in a familiar room. Your room, back on Haioku. You take a few minutes to remember exactly what happened, but it comes back to you soon enough, crystal clear. You had become an Em-Gee. Again. Second time.

Looking down at yourself, you find a distinct lack of magical or girl features. So once again, you’ve turned back. Inside, you feel your magical core sitting dormant, except now you can feel the magic upon it that keeps it from activating permanently. That’s what you recognize it as, at least.

You wonder who could’ve put that upon you. And why. In the end, that’s not your primary concern right now. You need to find the others first. Slowly, you get out of your bed, hissing a little at the pain. You notice that you aren’t wearing your armor, and find it hanging on a cupboard. On closer inspection, though, you find that it’s shrunk down in some areas, a bit more room in others. It appears that when you went Em-Gee, you just made your armor fit you as opposed to creating your own.

Welp. You shrug on a plain T-shirt and a pair of jeans. Where to?

Nope. Fuck finding people that you just spent your time trying to save. Because now it is your time and you *check wallet* have ran out of every single fuck you saved up.

Plus, you’ve got an aquarium to build.

You head on down to the main hall, passing by the Engineers, Eliza, Maggy, Roland, and to each and every single one you simply shrug, indicating your lack of fucks. They, of course, have their own supply of fucks, and continue to follow you, attempting to get your attention even as you find George chilling out inside the kitchen sink, and drape him around your shoulder, and grab the Engineers, and get them to building one hell of an aquarium near the kitchen, cutting a hole in the wall of the castle to provide George his sunbathing area.

A few hours later, it’s all taken care of, and there’s a beautiful aquarium (with bubble chest) that George chills in.

You finally turn to the group who are all watching you impatiently, tapping their feet in coordination and checking their watches (real or imaginary) every fifteen seconds.

“Hey guys. And...Maggy?” You spot the...huh. You feel like you should recognize her.

“Hi there, Shogo,” the girl says, waving. “Thanks for saving me.”

“No problem...” you turn to Eliza. “Can you explain what I’m thinking right now?”

Eliza sighs. “I can guess. Whatever that Witch was, she has powers over memories. Sure, she can send out blasts of magic, so can any Witch or Em-Gee, but her thing is making people think she’s got power over a hell of a lot more. Anyway, that memory thing wore off on...”

“Maggy,” the girl offers.

“Right. Maggy. Of course. Anyway, no one can remember her,” Eliza finishes, “except Matey.”

“Aye.” Matey sez.

You nod after a second, understanding. “Okay then. Can you fix it?”

Eliza shrugs. “Tony tried, but he can only change the lifespan of magic. This one is pretty damn long lasting. We don’t have anyone good enough at magic to untie it. Even the engineers prefer making big and easy circles over what this is.”

You frown, and approach Maggy...the girl. Whatever her name is.

“Huh. So let me get this straight. You need someone who is not only unrealistically good at manipulating any type of magic, but also removing it?”

“Yeah! Exactly that!”

“Huh. Good luck with that. Now, I’m hungry, what do we want for breakfast?”

The group stares at you. Not aggressively or anything, not at all. Just staring, all of them.

Slowly, you raise your hands. “Kidding?”

Roland says, “What do you want? I’ll cook, you work.”

You sigh, and give in. Roland skips over to the kitchen (the floor only protected against his monstrous weight in the armor by the many enchantments cast on it for that exact reason) and begins to make what appear to be oven cooked eggs in ham, you sit down with the magical girl and begin fixing what’s wrong with her.

As Roland cooks in the background, you allow yourself to open your mind again, Pinging the girl to find what’s wrong with her.

With the Ping, you find a huge criss cross of spells wrapping their way around the girl, like a large cloak hiding her from any onlookers. You set to absorbing the magic, taking care to unwrap it piece by piece so you can examine the worksmanship for yourself. Soon enough, you’re confident that you could recreate the spell, either on your own body or someone else’s.

>Cloak gained! Costs 10M, makes you invisible to mortals, very hard to see for Em-Gees except those with appropriate powers.

The rest of the spell is a piece of cake, and soon enough Maggy is hugging you, the tears you hadn’t quite made out before apparent.

“I was so scared! That no one would come, t-that no one would remember me!” she cries into your shoulder, her arms still wrapped around you. You can see Roland in the kitchen grinning at you, sending a thumbs up your way.

You flick him off, and gently hug Maggy back. After a minute or two, she finally lets go. “Thanks, Shogo. I-I really appreciate it.

>Social Flag! Maggy really looks up to you! You’re her idol!

“Food time!” Roland announces, slamming down a plate in front of everyone of the delicious ham and egg looking monstrosities that taste just like they look: not healthy, and very very tasty.

>Anything else you want to do or discuss?

To give you an idea of how your magic works: you don't have your own magical style, except Absorb. You can do magical circles, and basic magic, but that's it. Your real power comes from not just being able to take magic, but also learn the skill needed to make that magic. Right now you're definitely weak in terms of knowledge, but you could effectively master everyone else's magic if you wished.

Alice, sitting at the end of the table, grabs a napkin to wipe away the blood trickling out of her nose. "S-So forward," she mutters, before turning to you. "Well, I certainly haven't made a meltagun yet or anything like that, not at all, but I think, maybe, I might be able to do a plain one up for you.
