Well, it's just about the new firetrucks the fire station is getting... wait, actually, in the US, firemen aren't volunteers, right? I think they actually get paid? over here they are 100% volunteers and they have to pay for their own equipment, courses, trucks, etc, so polititians like to show off whenever they donate stuff to the fire department, which is sadly NOT often enough.

I guess it could be about how the mayor is doing a good job leading their community in peace and prosperity yadda yadda, typical "re elect me!" speech?

Depends, some people volunteer part-time, some are firefighter reserves and some people firefight full-time as job.

They are popular choices when donating but it doesn't happen on a large scale often. Some firefighter units in my area also participate in international aid efforts abroad and multi-state efforts in the USA when large fires break out.

Cedric shrugs and nods, knowing he'll go with her a way or the other, anyway.

"Of course, sergeant." -says Ellie on the radio
"Alright, be there before 10 and help with security, alright?"

Indeed, they arrive too early. There is just a skeleton crew checking the wires and sound systems for the speech, and even the foldable chairs are still loaded in a nearby truck.

Since they have time, they park nearby and cross the town plaza to a café right across from city hall, where they can have a snack while keeping an eye on things.

"Shouldn't we go help?" -asks Ellie
"Help do what, check the mic? it's too early. To thank you for breakfast, I'll buy you a cake"
"Alright!"

They sit by the window and order two coffee and a cake piece while waiting for a few more people to show up, or for it to be near 10am, whichever happens first.

"What is an election?" -asks Ellie as she sees the banner for the major's reelection go up on the back
"Ah, every few years, people vote on who they want as their leader... I guess it would be like picking your tribe's elder?"

As a conscious citizen, Cedric does his best to explain things to Ellie.

After a while, a van for the local news channel shows up and they set up their own cameras on the roof of the van, and soon its 9:30, thus Cedric pays their bill and they head over to the city hall.

The mayor greets Ellie and Cedric, and asks her to stand behind him next to the (female) firefighter and the other authorities/guests that he invited/ordered to his speech.

Meanwhile, Cedric is going to be walking around and helping as needed.

With a sigh, Cedric starts moving about, while Ellie stands on the platform and looks cute.

After a while, more people starts arriving, and when the news spread that there's a elf cop behind the mayor, the speech gets surprisingly high ratings across the nation.

Well, elves are exceedingly rare, after all, and honest curiosity isn't a sin.

Cedric helps a senior citizen to stand up from his seat after the speech, but other than that, there really was no incidents, albeit the city hall website gets flooded with comments.

A great deal of posters are criticizing the mayor for obviously using minorities to gain votes, a few "Human Rights" posters are angry at the city giving jobs to non humans, and pretty much nobody cares about the mayor himself.

Well, it looks like everyone wants to know if Ellie will be around on his next speech, so he may actually reach a lot of people that way.

It looks like the people who are angry at Ellie being there are the ones that will be guaranteed to watch the major's next speech.

The sergeant is informed about it, but decides he does not really cares about the opinions of hate mongers. He's interacted enough with Ellie and the rest of her people to just shake his head sadly at the rumors that people try to pass as facts.

Meanwhile, Ellie and Cedric are explaining her father about the democratic process.

Since he was the tribe's elder because the previous elder picked him for the position, he's a bit conflicted, albeit interested in being able to take part on choosing the leaders of this new world.

By the way, the elder's greenhouse pots are beginning to show sprouts. It's all earth plants since the government took their seeds for studying (and it takes a lot longer to grow and check a plant to see if it is safe than it takes to see if an animal has parasites and/or get rid of them) and making sure they were safe, but he seems rather excited about growing completely new plants, anyway.

It's not as of nomads did a lot of farming, to begin with. Most of their seeds were the type that need to be processed in order to make medicine with them, but since they have healing magic, AND a local clinic in their community, they don't really miss them too much.

The children specially seem quite in love with effervescent medicine for tummy aches.

Anyway, the elves are much more interested in the elections than the average person, albeit they seem confused by how short a term of office is.

Later, they are back in the patrol, once Ellie has said good bye to her father and friends and they are preparing to end their shift and go back home.

At this point, it feels like they have reached a suitably happy ending. We could keep going forth and having specific moments if you guys want, like their first child, meeting Baldric in person, going to the beach or camping together, stuff that's just sweet slice of life, but I think they will be fine now.

Even with a cloudy sky, the day is quite bright as the guests begin arriving at the church.

Of course, the police department made no issue of giving the bride, the groom and their guests, the day off, as well as letting them take a few patrol cars for ambiance, having them parked outside the church.

It was decided to have no shots or weapon salute. Instead, everyone has their rice ready in the trunks.

Inside, the wedding is about to start, with Elliezabella squirming about in the fluffy, large white dress.

"W-who came up with high heels! why!?" -she cries as she tries to get used to them
"Aww but you look so beautiful" -says her dad as he holds her hands to help her steady herself
"Alright, it's about to start!" -says her maid of honor, and helps them go around to the entrance.

Inside, Baldric has just finished giving a talk to his son. As they stand side by side, the elven guests are having trouble accepting that such a large person is not an ogre of some kind.

When the music starts playing and Ellie starts walking down the hall holding from her father's arm, Cedric smiles, his nervousness going away as he drinks in how beautiful she is.

Exchanging vows is simple and beautiful, with Ellie starting to cry when Cedric promises "until death".

As they kiss, the guests stand to cheer (except for Baldric, so he doesn't block the view of the people behind him), and as they leave, Ellie cries out in surprise as she gets showered with rice.

"W-what...!?" -she asks laughing
"It's for luck!" -he says as he kisses her again
"Alright!"

They drive off in a patrol, with cans tied up to its rear bumper.

"My baby just got married" -sobs Baldric quietly as he tries to not tear up

Elliezabella's father looks at him, slack jawed, then laughs and nods.

Indeed, they kiss through the red light, and then the green light (thankfully only they and their convoy of cars were waiting for the light to change at the time). When the light goes red again, the sergeant comes down from his patrol behind them, knocks on their window (gently) with his baton (since he's in full uniform) and gently chides them.

*clears throat* "Sir, I have to ask you to move your car" -he says in his best "on the beat" voice, trying not to smile too much
"Ah, yes sir!" -says Cedric, and lets go of Ellie to get back behind the wheel

He does feel quite guilty about the horrified expressions of the french people around them as Ellie goes on and on, adorably and relentlessly misunderstanding everything.

But, well, they did take plenty of pictures of her, so, in a way, they already got paid for their pain.

Besides, she's too adorable to get angry with her.

They decide to walk down the stairs, mostly so they have a longer hand-holding time than if they had taken the elevator, and then wander into a bakery to horrify the locals about their massive cultural misunderstandings.

"French people must really love bread. This one is enormous!" -she says as she holds a paper bag with two loafs of it

Cedric nods.

Once back in their small hotel, he picks her up, bags and all, and closes the door with his foot as he carries her to their bed.

"Cedric! we'll miss the evening tour!"
"We can horrify the locals later" -he says as he shushes her with a kiss, then gently lowers her unto the bed- "Let me take this from you..." -he takes the bread bag and leaves it on the night table

The castle is built atop a tall hill with cliffs under its walls, making it into quite the fortress. As Cedric looks around, he wonder what a castle from Ellie's world would look like.

As he's busy trying to imagine that, he sees her taking something out of her handbag and putting it on.

Its her beret.

"Cedric, take a picture!" -she says as she strikes a cutesy pose
About half a dozen japanese tourists take pictures before he can pull out the smartphone his brother gave him and figure out the camera again.
"Ah, there we go. Oh, let's go see the dancers in town"

After going downtown in Barcelona and enjoying the sights and foods, they enjoy the flamingo dancers in stage and finally head back to their hotel.

"You know?" -he says
"Yes?"
"I love you" -he grabs her and pulls her into a side street to hug her tightly as he starts nibbling on her ears
"Cedric! we're just five minutes from the hotel"
"That's alright. I'm just kissing you a little bit"

With a much brighter Ellie, Cedric rushes back to the hotel, and they make a mess of the sheets.

The thing is, the doctor seeing me currently said to me that the surgery was pretty much guaranteed to cause too much undue stress on the eye and cause further eyesight loss, even if it succeeds. Since im already almost blind, he didint dare to do it because he was sure he was going to leave me blind.

So, you know, not the best hopes for it.
