Our Current Resource List: http://pastebin.com/X2EGb3Es (Sloppy)

2nd week back, lets see where our story leads us this time.

>+/- Environmental Development: Water levels have risen and Tropical storms are more common.
>What was foretold as the coming of the "Leviathan" has translated directly over into a dramatic increase in the rate of Tropical storms; stranger yet is how predictable they are, often happening at dawn and dusk. Water levels have also risen, but they seem to have "capped": many of the channels in your cities and fields are near the point of overflowing and your beautiful sandy beaches have been consumed by the tide.
(2nd post inc)
>>
>+Political/Economic Development: Volcanic Island agricultural Lease
>You now have a "lease" of sorts on the Volcanic Forge island in the south (see updated map). The Southerners are leasing you the larger portion of the island for agricultural purposes: Sweet potatoes, plantains, fungal products, spices, and livestock for slaughter and egg/dairy products are all being produced and the volcanic ashen soil has become quite productive bread basket for the Souths industrialized nation. Currently 90% of the food produced is distributed directly to the south, leaving behind a 10% excess that is exported to your own nation.

>- Adventure Development: Greenhouse Fiasco
>The Observatory and a small portion of the neighboring mining and forging towns surrounding it have come under the control of plant construction: they are making everyone's lives very comfortable, but they are restricting outside access. Mycea is trying to passify and solve the situation in her spare time, but she believes you should tackle the issue yourself before some of your greatest minds are "coddled to death".

>+Spiritual Development: The Kids have come home
>Stepping through the Volcanic gate, the black stone construction crumbles behind them as it's constricted crushed by violent vegetation that seems to abhor the spiritual door. Their brief adventure into the realm of stars and dreams is over and the following beings have returned to the waking realm of mortals: The Hydra Mother, Foliatom, and Abyzousithis. The Hydra Mother was not available for question; she briefly held both Foliatom and Abby, kissed them, before immediately slithering away. No one has seen her so far.
>Both Foliatom and "Abby" are temporarily staying in the Arcanum: Abby needs to acclimatize herself as she has never physically existed before.

Alright guys, go ahead: 3 rolls, any combination of Ideas or Actions. Actions are d20, Ideas are d100. Talking to NPC's costs nothing.

>High End Results.

The Sage Council Unanimously decides that the indirect threat of the sea can no longer be ignored anymore and immediate action needs to be taken: Hydromancers, Geomancers, Masons, Metal Workers, Sages, Mathemeticians, Civil Engineers, and a small army of thousands of other civilians and volunteers are summoned forth to not only "flood prep" the city, but to actually update, maintain, and polish the Arcanum as it's come into a state of overgrown dereliction and decay in more contemporary times; considered more of a Jungle than an URBAN Jungle at times.
The Channels are deepened and the various other Aquducts are cleaned, re-organized, and separated to keep the poo water out of the drinking water and the flood water from out of everyone's homes and businesses. The largest part of the project though is the very 'slight' raising of the lowest portion of the Arcanum which houses hundreds of thousands of people: it doesn't take as long as you'd think as everyone is quite polite about the whole thing and the sage council rationalizes, "When the floods subside, everyone in the lower section will walk out of this with another floor on their homes."
The most appealing upgrade however out of this renovation is the "water draining and pump system". Cyclopes are horrendously lazy, but they're not stupid: The Cities Aquaducts and Water supply channels have been "tilted" and given curves so that the flow is more natural and creations a marginal amount of suction: Water can be moved farther, indoor plumbing is more possible, and people no longer have to shit in latrines.

>+Societal Invention: Public Washroom
>Seen as something of a large Deluxe outhouse to your people: They're an outhouse that can be "flushed".

By the way, you messed up the title, OP.
>>
>>39714380
Oh and few more things:

>+Technological Development: Dyke/Levee
>You have also invented the Levee. The Levee is a "layered" stone construction that has a very deep section to the middle of it and a number of layered walls surrounding it that can be raised or lowered as seen fit. Essentially; it's a gigantic stone pool that can have it's walls raised or lowered to control the flow and depth of water in an area.

>+Technological Development: Rope Pump
>This is one of the more complicated things your society has produced, but in hindsight it's ridiculously simple: A wheel is fitted to a knotted string of rope or chain and then has a bucket or water carrying device attached to it: the wheel spins, water flows, and the buckets or containers dump the water. Some of your foundry and smith workers imagine it could be used for mining purposes as well.
>>
>>39714502
You don't "industrialize later", you're either there with the first ones industrializing or you get colonized later on, unless you're worthless as a colony like Japan.
>>39714495
I like how you think: we should really father some heroes and sages and go shopping in R'lyeh when we can. Also we should do something about our southern cousins isolation: they only commerce with us and would like us to do like wise but we're too involved in international, interplanetar and interplanar politics for this to be viable.
I've build some United Nations Building at Mycaea city and invite them to send representatives so we can ease their ascent by our side in this world's political and commercial scene.

>Two Step Program to solve the Plant Problem: Find the Cyclopes responsible, ask Foliatom and Mycea for help, we lied- the third solution would be magic and maybe dancing if there's time.
>Roll 16 + 12
>Census reached: High End Results.

A small local section of your Sages Council within the province of Mycea's grove come out to where the Growth has become quite rampant: Mycea herself has actually come out and she's visibly annoyed and impatient- she's even attempt to infect it with a manner of fungal growth, but all this has achieved is there is now a symbiotic and much more rich biodiversity present in the growth and the occasional plant construct that take the appearance of a much more sexually explicit Mycea- wearing little servant girl outfits composed of thin fungal mycellium fabric. Mycea is both annoyed and now a little self-conscious about her appearance.

Your Sage council politely and quite literally "knock" on the door of the Greenhouse; they are welcomed by a swarm of small plant humanoid constructs. Your Sages ask if the "Master" is at home.

The Plant Constructs close the door and return 30 minutes later carrying a very old, very happy, two-headed Cyclopes who is giggling like an idiot while his plant constructs carry him around like Ants would a piece of cake. "Well Helloooo! If you're with the Church or the Government get of my lawn!" both of his heads laugh hysterically at his own joke- You can hear the other Cyclopean attendants groaning at it. "Yes? We are the Master."

>How would you like to solve this, exactly?
>>
>>39714744
>I dunno how ok they'd be with this.
Thats the crux of the problem. We've mostly been trade partners, and they love us and respect us as much as we do them. But thats the thing they experienced a divergent evolution from us. Where we were approached by others and accepted them and worked with them, they were approached by others only to be abused.

its presumptuous at this point in time to go "Maybe we can work together and you can do what we do and make friends with everyone just like us".
>>
>>39714708
No, they couldn't.
They do not have the supply this far south, we are friendly will all of our neighbors pretty much and our species magical abilities means going over open water is a great invitation for being sunk with prejudiced. Leaving only land attack available, which would lead into mycea's Forrest.

Attacking us would be a very bad idea.

>>39714744
Seems to be working so far, there are plenty of country's in the world were multiple micro cultures exist side by side. So long as we don't repress their culture and work together for a joint identity, it should be fine. Besides, there is literally no reason not to. We have the same end goals.
>>
We probably need to examine their culture more closely. How are their demographics? Technology? Architecture? Are they ruled by a group or an individual? Etc.
>>
Hey what's going on? Why are there so many plant constructs around, they seem a little out of control and starting to make it difficult to reach people in the surrounding area. Also Mycea is nervous. Is everything alright on your end?

That, or grant them sentience with Mycea as their god and don't make any more of them. This should have been limited at the start before this even began.

The Two-headed Senior Cyclopes adjusts the position of his ass in the hands of his plant constructions and listens to the questions and concerns of the Sage Council while Mycea looks and hovers over impatiently.

One of the Plant Constructs hands him a cup of water and he begins answering questions, "Well, originally Akalade had shown us how to make these little guys.. but everything sort of got out of hand when we found out we could make them into more people-like shapes." His two-heads laugh to themselves as he seems to reminisce over something. Your Sages gently poke him and he starts up again, "So they started waiting on us hand and foot as all good constructions do and so we got more involved in our work and eventually it got the point that we couldn't even be assed to make more so we made a few that could self replicate so we could focus on..wait, hold on-" One of his heads tilts over and soon he's leaning 180 degrees to the side as he peers out on how the vegetation has grown quite "virile".

"Well. That wasn't there last time...What year is it?"
No one has left the observatory in years. The "Master" very quietly realizes he and his four companions are the last the original team of a few dozen Cyclopes who came to study and work in the observatory: in the span of maybe 50-60 years they've worked almost endlessly while Constructs waited on their every needs- to the point where even as they slowly died of old age, their bodies would be whisked off in the night and buried in the Greenhouse. As you're slowly guided by the "master" and you find out this for yourself; the light in his eyes begins to fade and the laugh-lined wrinkled face of his becomes sullen and sad. The other five attendants are all just as old, just as ignorant, and just as depressed to be updated on the news.

>6 Very sad, very intelligent Moon-touched Cyclopes have been reclaimed.
>>
>>39715100
Well they might as well make presentations of the information they've collected over the years to the arcanum, and hopefully we can find journals or research of the rest of the team.

Still need to do something about the plant constructs though. Ask them to end self reproduction until we find an optimal solution to the situation?
>>
>>39715100

Botanomance the unneeded plants into one big plant.
>>
>>39714832
To clarify: i wanted to ease their introduction to the world through a system they had power and control over exactly so that it doesn't feel like us imposing our culture on them. They would be able to choose Who to send and when, to have some measure of control on when and how to interact with people, so that it won't have to allways be a power struggle and they won't allways have to fear to be enslaved or brutalized by any stranger that passes.
Their society will never be as multiethnic as ours: except for the odd genocide we're caracterized by our friendlyness to strangers and adaptability to new customs and technologies from outside. It's fine. But what kind of cousin lets his sibling be a neet?

The team of Cyclopean observatory workers quietly rise up and wave their hands to shoo away the plant constructs that constantly hover around them. Their legs are shakey and their joints pain them from spending days on end being carried by their small army of plant Servants.

They do a few very slow old man laps around the Observatory, through the neighboring mining town, all the while kneeling down on aged joints that snap as they lift their constructions, open up a seal on their chests, and pull on an almost invisible hair-like plant membrane that pops out a small seed before the construct turns into a pile of brown mulch.

It takes all day, but they eventually complete this task and the team of old men make their final stop for the day in the greenhouse; where in the center a small graveyard has been constructed by the plants burying their creators as they've grown old and died.

The 6 very old, very intelligent, Cyclopes sit down in the greenhouse and hand your Sage Council the Seeds they've collected. "If you want to replant them for whatever reason you can.. You know, Mycea had been nagging us for years? We were ignoring her this entire time- we thought she was just overacting but we had never left the dome, why would we? In hind sight, maybe not the best idea." They all just sort of lay down and think quietly to themselves.

>You now have Access to the observatory, greenhouse, and mining town again.
>Mycea estimates the Vegetation will wither and return to normal growth in a few months.

>Give seeds to Foliatom while we check up on him and his new girlfriend. See what we can get them

Foliatom and Abby have been staying in and around the Arcanum for a while now: Abby does not feel comfortable around mortals though and the two of them have been staying in the highest confines of the Arcanum where the spiritual immersion is most dense. Foliatom has been an absolute delight to be around, he doesn't talk much and he prefers to come out later in the day, but he's been assisting in rituals, alleviating the flood construction efforts, and has been hosting some lectures in the halls of the arcanum- going into great detail on the inner mechanics of numerous theological and arcane studies.
A few months pass, but you eventually get the seeds to Foliatom. He doesn't say much, just asks a few questions before looking off into the distance in the direction of the observatory and seemingly become aware of "something". He thanks you for your sages effort and stows the seeds away in his coat of eyes.

Abby never leaves the Mana pools.
Your Cyclopes occasionally come to visit her, but she's incredibly sheepish.
The Gorgons NEVER visit her; Gorgons appear to demonstrate a visible and worrying fear that walks the line of genuine horror triggered by the presnse of Abby- as if the Gorgons see something your own Cycloptic people are unable to perceive.

Abby only seems to be comfortable in the presence of Foliatom and no more than 10 Cyclopes at a time.
>>
>>39715678
We could probably make her some kind of veil dress that hides her visage from others if that helps her feel more comfortable.
>>
>>39715678

Maybe we ask our waifus about this.

I wonder if there's some strange perceptual thing going on between abyzousithis and the gorgons, they see her for what she is, or she appears to them fundamentally different from how she does to us. It started a few years back: He began his career as a calligraphist on one of your smaller, rural, islands doing commission jobs for signs, shops, boats, while living out of his sister's home and making enough as to not be a burden, but at the same time kind of being a bum.
His writing however became extremely popular with sages and youth, even though for all intense and purposes his mission statement summed up was, "If everybody was just a little less lazy, we could all collectively be lazier." His "essays" if you could call them that; became even more popularized among the foreign workers farming the Volcanic islands, but remained only as a cult-status book since the more industrial minded southerners wrote it off as "The rantings of some LOOSE Islander; and to not be taken seriously."

It wasn't until a tongue-in-cheek personal essay criticizing the papers- written up by a retired Foundry worker from the South did this entire thing explode: He wrote upon the importance and value of a proper work ethic, of the satisfaction of sleeping and eating after a hard days work, and even when the days are cold and the blast furnace rages on and there's no solace in life- you can always depend upon your own two hands, etc.. etc."

Fast forward 5 years later: you now have an entire Generation of Island Cyclopes with increased job satisfaction and whom are significantly less lazy.
The Original Cyclopes? He still does Calligraphy, but he eventually opened up a small print shop in the coastal jungle city neighboring the plains; he has three husbands and one wife.

The Local Sage councils takes note: The infrastructure in your two oldest cities has become quite noticeably derelict and the entire situation is lousy with graffiti, jungle vegetation, nesting animals, and GRASSMEN; they just stand there and when you're not looking the start shuffling, they shuffle and move so slowly and before you know it they've grabbed you...only to shuffle more!

>+Societal Development: City Workers
>Cities now employ a small army of workers: usually young, entry-level workers that maintain, fix, and keep the cities clean as they re-stone the roads, clear out "low level monsters" such as Grassmen, and even trim the advancing jungle vegetation to keep it from consuming peoples homes and businesses. They're also in charge of assisting the Gong farmers and the monthly cleaning and inspecting of the Sewer- oh my god.

>Roll 97 + 1 + 66

>Overwhelming Success, met with perfect failure, and OMINOUS INTERESTING RESULTS.

Your people have become very inspired and enthralled by your floating and even flying pots: people take rides in them, people float and have them soar around the island, but for the most part they've been restricted to the use of trained Cyclopean men and women of advanced Arcane Sciences; not just ANYONE can pilot, build, or handle one of these babies- especially when they reach a top speed of 20km an hour.

Though, Cyclopes have been quietly making advancements in Flying pot technology and asking themselves important questions: How "big" can we make this thing? What exactly is holding it up? Is it the Air it pushes out? Or is it the Magic pushing against the Earth itself? Would this be easier to do with Areomancy or Geomancy?

Several tests and models are made: Some made out of clay, some made out of wood and metal, one very expensive one made entirely out of metal and all of them with various propelling arcane mechanisms. One relying on Geomancy, another on Aedromancy, and one with a "hybrid" mechanism.

Things however truly get out of hand when Pedals, Sails and rudders are added- steering Mechanisms, SAILS, as well as lighter and more durable materials: different clay and metal mixtures.

>+ Magi-tech/Arcane Invention: Flying Ship
>Lacking any Aerodynamic engineering in mind, the "Flying ship" looks like a gigantic, hovering, pot covered in sails, lined in holes, and hosting a dozen or so cyclopes simultaneously amazed and afraid of their results. Possessing the ability to STEER, Sails for stability, and an inner arcane finger-thin metal paneling; it promises a safe ride that is almost guaranteed not to spin out of control and dump it's passengers.

>>

Continued Results:

In the end, the "propulsion mechanism" was derived out of a combination of monolithic Geomancy and Aeormancy engravings and constructions. The Flying Ship is capable of BOTH hovering AND legitamit flight as the Geomancy polarizes and dissipates the weight of the construction itself with advanced Aeormancy techniques provide lift and push against the weight of the passengers and it's cargo.... Your Cyclopes vaguely understand this, for the most part they're simply enthralled by the novelty of flying around in what they perceive as "style".

Later models are painted and have either poetic or inspiring things written on the sides of them, only later becoming more common place underneath very stylized of Handsome/Cute Cyclopean Men, Women, and one very particularly sexualized image of the Hydra Mother dramatically constricting a dinosaur that became so popular your Engineers and Masons made a print of it so they didn't have to constantly re-paint it.

There was also a Mycea one that was more of a Mural and possess a breadth of style, showmanship, and LEWDNESS; but it was later banned as your people were very eager to show it to Mycea herself and she was simultaneously embarrassed and flattered.

The Elderly researchers, sages, and arcane scientists have been in the care of Mycea ever since their departure from their studies at the observatory. Mycea's never mentioned this, but she secretly loves old people. She finds them adorable.
The Elderly arcanists feel as though they've swapped one doting overlord for another as Mycea constantly sends fungal shoots to look after them, peer over their shoulders, and keep the elderly NEETS company.

In between avoiding Mycea the elderly Arcanists hand you copies and designs of all their past and present works:

>+Magical Development: Advanced Elementalism: Metallomancy
>"This wasn't actually something that Akalade taught us, but was something we adapted and pioneered ourselves with what Akalade taught and told us about the consistency and "spirit" of earth-based materials.. don't let Akalade known I said "spirit"; he had a much more official term for it." Theory would dictate that Metal is more or less a processed extension of EARTH, but this is incorrect: Metal is a pure, elemental piece of the universe. "Earth" as most know it is composed entirely of impurities and compounds produced by living beings; that's why it's so easy to bend. Earth is an extension of life, but metal is an extension- a voice, an ECHOE of the greater reality.

>+Magical Development: Advanced Elementalism: Cyromancy.
>"Ice isn't something we get to experience very often.. Unless you're from the South where they experience perhaps a little "too" often. Akalade directly taught us this- he made an important distinction that there was more to ice than just "cold water". To create ice is to control a fundamental principles of energy: There is no cold, there is only the absence of Heat and thus Energy.

10th The Weeping Sage
All cyclops must value their life, treating it as the precious gift we all know it to be. He must preserve it not waste it foolishly. However there are times, when the unthinkable must be done. There are time when a cyclops can find a meaning and calling that he will value even more then his most precious gift. There maybe a time, when a cyclops may sacrifice his for a greater calling. Such as it was with the weeping sage, a man who had already given up his happiness in the pursuit of knowledge gave up so much more for all of our sakes. A sacrifice must never be taken lightly, and always remember to honor the life now lost.

>+Magical Development: Advanced Elemantalism: Applied Botanomancy
>+Spritiual/Philosophical Development: Mendelian's SOUL
>"Akalade taught us a long of things- or at the very least tried to. One of the things we struggled with most though was his constant need and affinity for his own appliances and knick-knacks to be made out of "plants". We could...never replicate his level of sophistication; it was beyond us, but we made our own advances in time once we rationalized it under our own terms." Souls are not stagnant; they are alive, they change, they constantly shift partners, owners, and a single soul can be used to alight endless vehicles of life. Diverse and powerful souls are independent and cannot be controlled; but plants, microbes, and simple forms of life possess simple souls that are open to suggestion. Over generations they may be shaped, direct, and re-purposed for varied uses as they physically express themselves. "One who works with souls though should work with caution; lest he start accidentally putting his own soul into his work."

>+Technological Development: Green Houses
>When asked why Akalade never taught them more about technology, gears, mechanisms, they bashfully reply with a sheepish grin "We never said we were very good students- we excelled at magical and arcane studies, but.. well.. math is hard!" Akalade however was able to pass onto your people the proper techniques and methods of constructing "greenhouses": Glass domes, supported by specifically blown thick honey comb shaped glass panels that let the sun in, but keep the cold out. They admit though, that they've never been able to construct a Greenhouse as perfectly as Akalade, "We'd still need metal framing- the one by the observatory is a damn flawless work of Art."

>Full disclosure on the Situation.

After swapping notes with the Elderly Arcanists; you ask them about the nature of the Parrats you've witnessed coming in and out of the observatory's greenhouse. They all manage to escape Mycea's clutches as one by one they ask one another if they any one among them knew anything about the Parrats.

Their stories seem to riddled with nothing but personal anecdotal experiences with the Parrats as nothing more but "pests", but one of the attendents luckily enough does has an interesting piece of information. "I had worked very closely with Foliatom compared to the others- he was a young master and he didn't speak much, but he was incredibly interested in the relationship between the Mind and the Soul as well as the study of plants, animals, and dreams. You know, he wouldn't often spend more time sleeping than experimenting.."

He proceeds to rant on for a half an hour about nothing interesting or constructive until you catch the tail end of his run-on-sentence, "Reach into the realm of dreams, in an attempt to devise the true reality of the waking world: what extent do the mind and soul have one another- can thought supplant reality? "

The Attendant then takes a nap.
Mycea quietly leans over to scoop him up and gives your people some passing advice, "I mean no disrespect when I say this; Foliatom is a good child- he turned out better than I could have ever imagined, but a soul can never be destroyed.. it can be split apart, but it only ever truly 'changes owners'."
>>
>>39717422

Shinji is clearly Foliatom, while Zeto is Asuka. Mycea is Rei. Akelade is that gay dude who was evil all along.

>>

Your sages however are not interested in side-quests at the moment; they have Parrats to check up on! They excuse themselves and immediately make their way over to the Greenhouse which now lay abandoned; save for the abundant growth of flourishing self-sustained plant life that remains inside.

The Greenhouse is actually much larger than anyone had ever noticed- it takes your people 2 entire days before they finally find the parrats and what they can only guess would be the entrance to Foliatom's "room".

Thick, rich, and healthy jungle growth surround what appear to be some mixture of plant and fungal mound molded and grown vaguely in the shape of an organic structure that resembles entrails and organs in it's construction and design; a Ventricle-like door seems to be the entrance, but it is sealed shut tight and the entire.. "room" seems to flex and convulse in protest when any attempt is made to come closer to it. Half buried in the greenhouses soil; this weird, pulsing, disturbing mound.. has numerous little "doggy door" sized holes and channels that open up revealing mucous membranes that allow only certain creatures to permeate them: Birds, Reptiles, Flying reptiles, and the occasional Parrat.

Your Sages attempt to "poke" Foliatoms room with a stick, but any aggressive or rude disturbance towards them fills their mind with a sense of.. almost "apologetic retreat."
The Sages excuse themselves.
This is all very weird.
>>
Maybe the guy who said something about a giant plant familiar was right to an extent, then. If we make many plants with small souls, they're dominated by their programming- helping us. If we instead make fewer plants with bigger souls, they manifest their own will. I doubt they'll overcome their purpose entirely- even Akalade, whose soul was likely at least as big as a gorgon, was obsessed with fulfilling his mission.

The question is how big exactly should the souls be? At what point does this become dangerous? At what point does it become unethical? Is it already?

I vote we don't fuck around with souls until we understand them more, especially considering Akelade, demons and probably angels were all created by soul magic.

FYI, I'm suspecting mana works the way vys does in Banished, if anyone here reads that.

>>39718214
get in the robot, Foliatom.
>>
>>39717834
>>39717855

Well, alright then here we go.

Foliatom and his guest have staying within the Arcanum for a few years now and all the while Foliatom has been really opening himself up more and more; letting his individuality really shine as others come to know him on a more personal basis. The most note worthy thing however is his constant lectures on astronomy, theology, and metaphysics, but what's more interesting and appealing is the Aura of "Dreams" he seems to give off. People napping or sleeping within the presence of Foliatom wake up and later express some of the most beautiful, vivid, and wondrous dreams they've ever had; inspiring them, motivating them, and dramatically improving the moods and moral of hundreds of people.

The Same cannot be said though about Abyzousithis. No one "hates" her, per say, but your Cyclopes feel mildly uncomfortable around her and the feeling seems to be mutual at times. They insist in their hospitality though as they see the potential for her to be the consort of Foliatom... and honestly your people are 'crazy' interested in what happens if demi-gods fuck. Do they make a real god? Do they make more Gods? What will come out? You don't even know what their Genitals look like!

What however can't be ignored is the Gorgons reaction to Abyzousithis; they fear her, they express a real and startling phobia- the worst of them genuine horror at her mere presence. This has isolated "Abby" from the rest of the city, but how should we begin?

>Where should our investigation begin?
>Common sense would dictate to just directly ask Abby, Foliatom, and perhaps the Gorgons about whats going on?
>But maybe you, the anons have some suggestions or ideas?

What do you guys think?
How should we do this?
>>
>>39718253
>>Common sense would dictate to just directly ask Abby, Foliatom, and perhaps the Gorgons about whats going on?
Let's start here. It seems reasonable enough, and if that doesn't work we try asking the Hydra-Mother (if she'll see us) Mycea, and even ask our local sea demigoddess even if she doesn't like us very much, we don't want Foliatom to have to choose between us and Abyzousithis, and she's always wanted what's best for her siblings.
>>
>>39718253

Start discreetly. Interview gorgons of various levels of fertility, magical aptitudes, and breed, see if there's a correlation between motherhood, or cyclops blood. Have them elaborate on their feelings around Abby.

Also worth investigating might be the mana baths she used when she isn't there. Is the mana changed in any way? Does it become less or more?
>>
>>39718253
I suppose asking them would be the best. If we want we could experiment with Aby's repulsion field- does she need to be in line of sight? Would her standing next to a wall affect a gorgon on the other side?

Is it any particular gorgons who feel her more then others? Anyone or anything that doesn't seem bothered by her?

Maybe we could expose her in short doses over a long period of time to people to normalize the reaction
>>
>>39718253

I want to ask based Mycea as she'd never lie to us, but the presence of a demon might make her flip out, what with her previous experiences with the Red World and all. We should probably leave that for last.

>>39718378
>>39718317

Practically guaranteed to make her feel even more uncomfortable. Silly cyclopes and their utter lack of tact.
>>
>>39718253
No one has touched her, other than probably Foliatom. I think the one thing I want to investigate is her "power" over her domain. Which might be the primary thing that makes Gorgons hate her and us unconfortable.

Does she have an egg obliteration ray? Does her touch cause zygotes to shrivel in sheer terror?

That said, it would be CRUEL to experiment on anyone sentient. To ask someone to, stand in front of Abby to see if they can have kids afterward.

Some testing might be required though.
How do we feel about animal testing?
>>
>>39718253
Does magic nullifying iron help any with this 'awkwardness field' aby projects?
>>
>>39718460

We could bring forth a fertile and an infertile gorgon, see if there's a difference in their reactions.

If we pay them up front and give them full disclosure, it'll be morally correct imo. There must be someone who can have children but doesn't want to. Arcanum is a big city.

>>39718504

You mean platinum.
>>
>>39718527
Whichever materials and rituals nullify magic, we could try that
>>
>>39718537
Have we ever figured out if such implements effected magical creatures in some way?

Like did we ever directly experiment with Iron on Hydra Mother or Mycea before. Cause if Iron nullifies magic... does that mean it could KILL or HURT magic creatures?
>>
>>39718317
>>39718347
>>39718378

>Start discreetly.

Your "investigation" committee decides to start small and work their way up: They need to try and find out what the Gorgons are seeing and what's got their little snake covered heads in a tizzy. The sage council will have to start looking for their answers in the Gorgon district of the Arcanum.

Past the Mural to the Hydra mother and into the Square of the district your sages host a small and polite get together to receive public Gorgon opinions on the Demi-godess Abyzousithis, they put forward a simple line of questioning; "What does "Abby" look like to you?" The results are interesting, but some of their claims are conflicting.

"She doesn't make sense; how she looks I mean. I thought maybe I was just seeing things since the Cyclopes boys don't notice anything, but then I saw how the other girls looked at her- how some of them even ran away from her and now I don't really know what to think. She doesn't seem to.. she's like a cloud? Like a Cloud made out of constant, wavering, flowing parts of people and animals.. I couldn't look at her for that long, but that isn't even the worst part; it's the smell, the sound, she- that thing, it constantly chimes out this horrible, clattering, echoing, rusty noise and there's this constant, salty, bloody smell that surrounds 'her'." This was a claim that seemed to sum up most of the middle-aged Gorgons complaints; the Older ones seem to be more explicit in both their description and trauma.

The "Native born" though, the Cyclopes sired Gorgons- They don't seem to have as much of a problem with her.. They at the very least express a distinct "discomfort", but they don't seem to express an ability to perceive this "cloud" the other's seem to swear by.

>Where would you like to go with this information?
>We could go and see Mycea or we could find the Hydra mother and ask her directly- she's had the most contact with Abby.

what should we do next?
>>
>>39718446
Hey, we'd do it with TACT. Subtle like. Explain that we want to figure out a way so that more people can interact with aby, and so she can be happier too
>>
>>39718707
also make sure to send a SMALL group of Cyclops to ask about this, we should start with Mycea.
>>
>>39718707
Let's bring Foliatium into the loop on this and he can float it by Aby. Meanwhile we'll bring our research to Mycea and start looking for the hydra mother, I guess checking her old haunts in the Gorgon Empire first and then moving outwards. We have many hands after all
>>
Rolled 67 (1d100)

>>39718707

Hmm. Gorgons were always super sensitive to magic. Can we roll to find a way for our sages to bring their sensitivity up using various mediums and rituals, or is that something reserved for civ mode only, seeing how it might improve our society as a result?
>>
>>39718707
I'd say to find the Hydra mother and ask her directly.
>>
>>39718707
You know I wonder if the "island" gorgons are "immune" because of Cyclopean heritage, or the nature of Hydramother's intervention in allowing for the cross breeding.
>>
Rolled 78 (1d100)

Mycea hates demons
Hydra Mother hates us
I'd rather roll to commune with the Moon
she seems to know about fertility
>>
Rolled 40 (1d100)

>>39719031
I'll support this on top of the other Anon's suggestions
>>
>Bring Foliatom into the loop, Ask Mycea, and try and look for The Hydra Mother.

Your Council divides two groups: One group to de-brief both Foliatom and Mycea on the entire situation and one to go and look for the Hydra Mother.

>Mycea's side of the Story

The Council decides that it would take too much time, money, and resources to make the commute over to the province of Mycea just to ask her a few questions, so you opt out for the cheap method and simply summon an Astral projection of her to communicate with within the Sanctum of the Arcanum.

You procure the reagents, align the monoliths, and all the necessaries hymns are sung for the ritual and soon the area is a lit with the comforting, cool, lighting of her divine fungal presence of Mycea's projection. "Oh, my, well this is rather formal, to what does this mushroom owe you most honorable sages the privilege of a summon? My, my, don't I feel important?" She giggles and her light-borne extension reclines down with open arms to welcome your Sages closer. Foliatom is off to the side- in the Audience, a quiet spectator.

You ask about "Abby" and she sits back up immediately: her cheer and formality gone and her gaze very briefly shifting from Foliatom and back to your Cyclopes. "What of the new child?" She expresses a level of concern you had not anticipated and your sages are quick to debrief her on the topic. She does not seem relieved, but she seems to show maybe more "discretion".
"Divine beings by nature are shaped by the psychic echoes of peoples dreams, admiration, respects, and feelings; both from the past and the present.. There's no doubt she physically exists, but obviously there's some internal conflict between your Gorgons "memory" of her and your own. I'm not at liberty to say which is her real form, because frankly I don't know..but I think the best course of action would be to treat her hospitality and affection.. Love is as always a very powerful force when it comes to suggestion."
>>
>>39718707
See if we can find a way to nullify or at least bring this distortion field into focus for cyclops, try platinum, design new rituals
>>39719031
>>39719065
I disagree. The Moon doesn't know Abyzouthis from adam. We should talk to Mycea, she won't hate Aby once she sees what a good person she is.
>>
>>39719031
Moon is definitely the most impartial in this case. I mean she pretty much was the one that set Foliatom and Abby up. But I don't know how difficult it could be to communicate with her.

Plus are we sure Abby is a demon? I feel like we need to define "What is a Demon?" at some point.

Is it a unique lesser order of magical being? above monster but below demigod? Or is it essentially a term for "God/Demigod except reigning over something nasty".
>>
>>39719265

A demon is a being whose soul was artificially enlarged to beyong mortal levels. Do try to keep up.
>>
>>39719261
Well there we go then! We just treat her with love and affection and let her grow at her own pace, if it comes up later, we tell her what we know, and that we're willing to be around her and move at her pace until the memories of her being shift enough to make it possible for her to appear before others without causing terror.
>>
>>39719262
>>39719265

Moon is the one who said she was a demon, and instantly recognized her for what she is. She also knows what Foliatom is but didn't tell us. And she only needed their names to derive this information-after the ball, I imagine she knows more than she could even explain to our dim-witted council.

We should really do something about that council. I think everything would be a lot better if the councul members were selected based on a meritocratic system rather than a magocratic one, since we've all but proven that strong magic doesn't make one a competent decision-maker.

Oh well. Another thread, perhaps.
>>
>>39719492
>meritocratic system rather than a magocratic
I was under the impression we were a meritocracy in general.
That said perhaps its a time for what constitutes merit to change. Magic power was symbolic for spiritual understanding and responsible use of power. But we don't quite need creative storytellers and powerful wizards as much as we used to.
>>
>>39719261

>The Hydra Mother and her Sacred Den.

The search fro the Hydra Mother isn't as extensive as your people thought it was going to be: It turns out the Hydra mother has been bunking in the subterranean dungeon of her old palace- the Theocracy taking over the above ground Quarters and the Hydra Mother largely reduced to The "Demi-god squatting in the basement."

Your Sages seek a Council with her and the High Gorgon Priestess are happy to oblige, but the Hydra mother is anything but cordial, there is a distinct and obvious rudeness to her and she comes off as very bitter and sarcastic.

Her form is drawn out in her chambers; dozens of Maidens lounging around a much larger snake body that coils and surrounds the inner chamber. She allows the presence of your people and hosts an audience with them as they lounge on her and along side her, "Yes, yes, hellooooo my little one eyed babies.. so glad you could make it out here and find me essentially living in my "parents basement"- my how the might have fallen.." You update her on current trends and she doesn't seem phased, "Have they fucked yet? That's all that I care to know. Foliatom is a good boy, he's got a set of very healthy-" You tell her of the more pressing matter with the Gorgons. Dozens of her maidens roll over, frustrated. One of her Maidens insists on finishing her sentence, "Penises, He's got a very healthy set of penises- I'm confident the two will have beautiful children. Don't interrupt me darlings- it's the least you could do."

She grows impatient and mildly offended, waving you away with some passing advice, "Listen, if it's a matter of what physically exists and what doesn't just view her reflection; there's no need to complicate things."

You're unable to get anything else out of her as she shooes and carries off your Cyclopes away before slithering down back into her dungeon, alone.
>>
>>39719546

I feel like we should apologize. Not that I'm genuinely sorry or anything- it's just that she's powerful and pissed off.

So. A mirror? Magic mirror? Platinum mirror? Let's do it.
>>
>>39719546
That won't do... that's hardly the way for her to be treated. We should give her a nice tropical home in the isles.
>>
>>39719594
>>39719546

hey guys. Let's not.

Let's seriously not.

If somebody HAPPENS to view her physical state in a reflection. Sure, that's fine. Hoorah and all that.

But otherwise, who -really- cares?

Given what she ACTUALLY represents. Her actual physical incarnation may NOT be a good thing.

We shouldn't do that to ourselves or to her. Does it matter? No. It really doesn't.

Mycea gave us the answer. Over time, her effect on gorgons and others will lessen.
>>
>>39719546
We have regular mirrors invented right? Silver plated on glass. should... should we dare look at her?

You know you want to know.
>>
>>39719625
I agree, we just have to work over time to make people view Abby in a positive light and let time march on.
>>
>>39719647
I do, but I don't want to know badly enough to either A) permanently ruin our own perception of her, or B) learn enough about her to permanently ruin any chance of her being adapted to the gorgons by our group conciousness.

It's not worth it. We're talking about a being who was formed from the psychic fallout of an entire generation DIEING OFF. Fuck that.
>>
>>39719625
I'm curious myself, but thats just it, its me who's curious.

It might provide experimental insight to the nature of spiritual things but that might be the one benefit.

Does she really want to know? Do the cyclopses really NEED to know? These are questions that need answers before we dare do anything.
>>
I still think we should have someone not a gorgon or a cyclops view her to see if it a gorgon thing or a mother thing
>>
>>39719340
Since when? I don't remember who gave us that definition

Also we're still not any closer towards getting around Aby's problem besides public relations. She's not really the social type..
>>
>>39719715
we'd need a changeling or tengu then. The Parrats are too closely connected to her birth to be a safe choice.
>>
>>39719744
maybe the parrats might view her oppositely. After all they did create her partially

that would add a much needed self esteem boost
>>
>>39719546

As it currently stands, your Sage council has the following options set before them:

They could very well construct a mirror and gaze upon the reflection- the "true" honest, unbiased, and untampered image of Abyzousithis; reflected by a mindless and unthinking crystal clear object or surface that could only be created with a pristine and reflective surface such as a mirror.. but this could have unforeseen consequences.

You could see something you don't like. Your perception of her could just as well change what she looks like once again; she could even stop existing as your perception of her enters into a logic loop until she becomes imaginary. This is something you've never had to think about before.... You would undoubtedly learn a lot though.

The other options is to simply let her grow and develop: let her be happy, let her court Foliatom, let her physical existence be cemented in a positive emotional environment and let well enough alone.

>She's waiting there; almost entirely immersed in the golden pool of wavering Mana as only her face sheepishly hangs out while her long hair floats gently on the surface.
>The Mana glows to brightly to be a reflective surface, and there she's most comfortable dwelling; immersed in the physical fluid of souls and only ever rising to welcome the company of a few individuals or her precious Foliatom.
>What are you going to do?
What will you do?
>>
>>39719777
They do need a god. And she is their "baby". Of a sort.
>>
>>39719744
Might be an interesting point of view, though. Maybe they'll like her the way gorgons hate her.

>>39719697

We don't know this. The manaia incident may have merely fallen under her domain and thus became associated with her if she was born before that.

>>39719777

It would also be ironically adorable. Genocide survivors worshipping a Goddess of stillbirth and protected by the perpetrators of said genocide as well as the God of Horrorterrors.

D'awwwwwww.
>>
>>39719802
Wait and see, no need to risk creating or invoking a paradox. We'll just let her be and help her be happy .

Ask Fol to introduce her to the parrats sometime
>>
>>39719802

>look at the reflection of her face
>>
>>39719802
Do nothing of course. We've yet to get our hands on a single scrap of info on the gods we could wrap our minds around or use, and most of the time we have incurred tragic consequences. Let's not do that here.
>>
>>39719802
To do the mirror is the path of instant gratification. Instant gratification could be good or bad. Its 50/50. She could finally see her true self and feel good, or we could see her true self and make things worse.

I say, no mirror. Its basically like plastic surgery on an awkward teenager. Its trying to skip all the beautiful changes that could happen just because the process is hard. Sure they might look pretty, but then they can have their face rot off with botulism.

That metaphor went way off the rails but still. We should let her grow on her own.
>>
>>39719802
Let's let her develop in a positive environment, but encourage her to go out a little more often, brave gorgons can occasionally come by to see if the bad thing still exists, but otherwise we let them know ahead of time since they mutually disturb one another.

We got a good thing going, the only thing I think is we should get her to go a little bit outside her comfort zone. There are plenty of places where she can go to be alone you know? With her few close friends, without the hustle and bustle of crowds. We just don't want her getting burnt by over exposure to mana (I don't -think- that can happen to gods, but why risk it?)
>>
>>39719802
>she could even stop existing as your perception of her enters into a logic loop until she becomes imaginary

If that was the case, wouldn't Zenon have stopped existing when he tried to overtake the turtle? No, functions can come with limits. I believe it'l stabilize her appearance so that her outside appearance matches her inside appearance for whoever looks at her. Maybe have one cyclops look and tell the others if it was a good idea.
>>
>>39719802
don't look at her for now, we can always pull out the mirror later if we need it
>>
>>39719802
>let her grow and develop: let her be happy, let her court Foliatom, let her physical existence be cemented in a positive emotional environment and let well enough alone.

Let's be good parents to her and help her grow into a positive demi-god. She and Foliatom could help the Parrats immensely

>Decide to let her be.

The Sage Council ultimately decides that inaction might be the best thing for it and a sigh of relief is felt unanimously wash over everyone present- even the minority that wanted to "see her true form" eventually come to accept this decision.

As far as you know though, "Abby" is never made explicitly aware of this private and secretive meeting; what she is though made aware of is her welcoming party. You decide if you're going to let her grow up you're going to starts things right from square one and formally welcome her to the community.

>She allows a maximum of 25 people at a time.
>The Party is a small, close, and quiet occasion, but it doesn't feel uncomfortable and 5 of the attendants are Gorgons- whom express no issues.
>The night of the Party; Abyzousithis requests Foliatom spend the night within the mana pools by her side.

Things remain quiet for a while and nothing of significance happens until roughly 9 months later where in "Aby" abruptly rises from the pool of Mana; the golden fluid trickling down her naked body like water from a ducks back- before the presense of a Gorgon.
With the Gorgon as her witness; she extends her claw and hands the Young woman a single, ominous, but otherwise flawless perfectly healthy egg. The Egg is quite large, but doesn't seem to weigh anything; Gorgons seem to have some kind of natural affinity towards it and it invigorates within them an overwhelming sense of "broody'ness", they can NOT take care of it.

No one has any idea what to do with it though beyond keeping it safe.
