You are Kusajishi Riku, and you are now staring death straight in the face.

After attempting to investigate a disturbance in the Rukongai you were attacked by Ninth Division's Lieutenant Mashiro, who had partly transformed into a Hollow. Before long you yourself succumbed to the same affliction she did, losing control of your physical body. Inside your mind you fought a Hollowfied personification of your missing memories from life, which called itself “Rosa”, and defeated her. Although the threat has passed, it seems now that during that time your body was likely acting on your last conscious thoughts, at least at first. Those last thoughts were “get to Yoruichi.”

The result is what you see before you now. Yoruichi's face has been covered by a smooth mask, her cheeks framed by two large fangs and her eyes now dark and predatory behind the white porcelain of her Hollow bones. The mask extends back across her scalp, where her hair has grown long and wild, leaving two trailing black tails ending in feather-like blades of bone behind her. Her shoulders and upper arms are covered by jagged bone armor as well, which comes to large, wicked spikes at the uppermost edges. Her hands are encased in white gauntlets that end in sharp claws, and even the bony armor around her legs has taken on a feline appearance from the edge of her ragged hakama down to her clawed toes.

The Hollow, who until moments ago was your closest confidant, hisses menacingly.

“Sorry about this,” you mutter, as if hoping that some part of Yoruichi can still hear you. “But I don't think I can hold back.”

Tenkotsuki releases herself as you draw her, having quickly grasped the severity of the situation after her return. “I am ready,” she reassures you. “But please remember, you are already in rough shape.”

The most noticeable thing right now, to you at least, is that Hollow-Yoruichi hasn't attacked you yet. You seem not to register as a threat, or perhaps she simply lacks the capacity to consider what she should do beyond standing there hissing.

Either way this is the ideal time to strike, as once the battle starts you likely won't get another chance where she's so wide open. You and your Zanpakuto cast in unison.

“Bakudō 75, Gochūtekkan!”
“Bakudō 79, Kuyō Shibari!”

Your spell goes off just after Tenkotsuki's: five tall, massive pillars connected around the tops by a circle of chains slam down onto Yoruichi's body, pinning her head and limbs to the ground in a resounding crash. The second spell then appears as a black ball of energy at the center of the pillars, where they crush mercilessly against your Captain's back, while the other eight manifest along the ground in a circle around her prone form.

All the while, Hollow-Yoruichi screams at you in rage.

“That should hold her, for a time,” Tenkotsuki sighs in the back of your mind. “Sadly, it will not make her stop making that infernal noise.”

You simply frown at your Captain as she strains against the two spells. “It won't last forever, though,” you observe warily. “Her spiritual pressure is going wild... I've never felt anything like it.”

It feels like you'll have a precious few seconds before Hollow-Yoruichi breaks free of those spells... depending on your decisions in the meantime you may be able to recover from some of your numerous wounds, or buy yourself a few more seconds.

>Increase the strength of your binding spell (drains reiatsu, but may buy a little extra time)
>Add a third layer of binding (may be difficult to maintain, may buy a little extra time)
>There's a healing pool here. Use it. (helps recover from physical injuries, will take most of your time)
>Yoruichi did something to the training room. If she thought it was important, it probably is.

Just buying enough time for Hats to at least arrive with a more stable solution really.

After that, we can chain-cast Hakudo and hopefully keep her floored for long enough that she exhausts herself fighting against it and doesn't immediately kill us.

Situation is FUBAR.

Delay, delay, delay. We can heal if this is successful.

Okay, so, what's our general game plan?

We obviously want to stall Yoruichi as long as possible until she's cognizant again. The straight forward way is to spam ghost magic all day, but Yoruichi going Super Berserk Ghost Saiyan 2 might be enough to over power us in our weakened state.

Bankai would theoretically be a good idea, because then we could just tie up Yoruichi because we made her power up irrelevant, but the Bankai would also mess up with the barrier she apparently set up.

So... ghost magic seems like the best idea, but not optimal.
>>
>>39772337
That wasn't like Her roll to win against herself was it?
>>
>>39772117
>still no character sheet in the OP
why
>>
>>39772346
Bankai nukes all energy so there wouldn't be anything to emit though would there? I mean how do you detect something that's had it's energy shut off.

So I don't think that'd be horrible. The problem would be that she's a much fucking scarier melee fighter.
>>
>>39772346
That's pretty simple. We facetank in the healing stream. So long as we don't leave or get knocked out, our HP pool will never go in the negatives.
>>
>>39772337
...Low? Since i'm going to guess the roll was for how long it would take for her to win?
>>
>>39772207
It was the number of turns that the bindings will last. We're DOOMED!
>>
>>39772346

Emergency plan is to open a garganta and bait her in.

weird atmosphere might do stuff to her, but it beats her getting killed by a captain.
>>
>>39772409
....FUCK!
>>
>>39772346

Bankai would be BAD. It may shatter the seals that yourichi put up.

So everyone would sense the hollow energy afterwards.

>>

>>
>>39772495

>>
>>39772495
It may also get us mauled by even more hollows.

There are many more out there who are powerful and not best shark.
>>
>>39772424
This is definitely a last ditch effort kinda thing but is a pretty good backup plan.
>>
>>39772450

Again, last resort.
>>
>>39772346
Our bankai is a TERRIBLE idea in this case, because in berserk state she's probably going to be a brute fighter, in which case Riku gets her shit wrecked.
>>
>>39772524
Don't forget that we can also put on the mask in a super dire situation
>>
>>39772424

>>
>>39772542

>>39772346
Yeah we're more of a speedy caster. If we pull that out we're forcing melee. She will stop us.
>>
>>39772542

>>39772390

>>39772542

We don't know we can do it yet. It'd be meta to try that.
>>
>>39772557

Takigoi: full-round defense, reduces DC on next turn. Human-sized targets only.
Tesshō – slam your opponent's head into a nearby surface. Difficult to initiate, but stuns the opponent.
Sōkō Shunkō – “Armored Shunkō”: improves hakuda and speed, protects the body, slows blood loss.

Going to need to go shunko, and likely use top 2 if forced to melee combat.
>>
>>39772557
>Do we know we can do that?
You're forgetting that this is essentially metagaming: the quest
>>
>>39772579
No its not
>>
>>39772570
Let's call going melee Plan B. Plan A is to keep her pinned down with japanese ghost wizardry. Dunno if there is a Plan C. Heuco Mundo I guess.

Either way, this is less than ideal.

>>39772615

>>
>>39772579

Plan D for "DAMNIT, WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU HATS?"
>>
>>39772560
It is a HoT effect. Bleach runs on hotblooded shounen tropes. So long as you're getting a heal, you'll stay standing.
>>
>>39772615
I'd rather let her maul is a bit and hope Hat'n'Cloggs shows.

I really like Hue Co is a bad idea.
>>
>>39772615
>pinned down with japanese ghost wizardry

Riku is gonna get a crash course in shibari here in the next few minutes.
>>
>>39772665
what
>>
>>39772636

Riku does not know that.

Also with how strong and fast both are, will be a cluster fuck fight. Good luck staying in a spring.
>>
>>39772150
Not content to simply wait it out and hope that your spells all hold fast, you cast yet another spell at Hollow-Yoruichi. And just in the nick of time: her spiritual pressure has risen dramatically enough to start straining against the two spells already in place. This will buy you a few extra seconds to plan and prepare, but it's quickly becoming apparent that no amount of bakudō is going to stop this beast forever.

“Bakudō 63: Sajo Sabaku!” you declare, aiming a glowing length of chain at the pinned Hollow, further biding its limbs even as the pillars of the Gochūtekkan begin to crack.

Tenkotsuki eyes your handiwork nervously. “This may be difficult,” she admits. “With the rate at which her spiritual energy is increasing, any further impediments may see rapidly diminishing returns.”

“I know,” you agree. “The raw power there... it's terrifying. Doesn't it shake you to your very core?”

“I feel no shame in admitting it.”

At that very moment the chains around the Gochūtekkan rattle as the pillars tilt back towards each other, and with a sound like an immense gong being rung they collide and shatter. That didn't last long.

I'm being methodical in my thinking, and everyone votes immediately after the ballot opens up, so I guess it's natural planning would be too late.

I guess that's a gameplay flaw with quest threads. Unlike if we were all physically at a table together, we could plan and talk before we made a decision. But because it's online and voting takes place in a short window of time, decisions are more impulsive because people are compelled to go with their first good idea as fast as possible.

When was it decided that Yoruichi is definitely going to leave? That's still up in the air. Gin saw what happened to us, yes. If we leave now he might assume we died. If we pretend nothing's wrong after this, I doubt he's going to sell us out.

>>39773194
Pretty sure we shouldn't get involved in real world conflicts, and that should go double when it comes to helping fascists. There's no reason for it and the only possible outcome is a large number of new players from \pol\.

“She did something,” you frown. “This place feels different somehow.”

“Get me close to one of the walls,” Tenkotsuki requests. “I will attempt to discern what she has done to this cavern.”

You use hirenkyaku to get right up against one of the walls of the training chamber, looking carefully at it. Now that you're this close you can see that the walls are glowing faintly with reiatsu, that somehow feels like Yoruichi's. You also feel that its strength is compromised in some places, and fading overall as time passes.

Tenkotsuki immediately figures out what it is you're looking at. “This is a barrier,” she explains, stating the obvious. “It is designed entirely to protect from reiatsu generated from within its boundaries, and has been nearly destroyed in several areas.”

“Destroyed? How?” you ask nervously.

Tenkotsuki sighs in the back of your mind. “You used cero several times while in Hollow form. The places where those ceros impacted the barrier nearly destroyed it.”

“How worried should we be about that?”

“A second impact near those spots will destroy the barrier, and ensure our fight will be felt through all of the Seireitei,” she tells you. “Well, what portions of the Seireitei survive the blast that is. It is a scenario your Captain tried very hard to avoid."

“Guess I'll just need to avoid letting it get hit in those spots,” you mutter. “No time now to repair it.”

A second short dash ends with you nearly tripping headfirst into one of the healing pools, which are so endlessly useful for situations like this. Well, not exactly like this, but similar at least. Any time where you're nearly dead on your feet and need healing. But you manage not to fall in as Hollow-Yoruichi dispels the second spell holding her down, leaving only the chains. The creature slowly rises to its feet, inestimably powerful muscles straining against your bakudō... and slowly winning.

You stoop for a moment and cup some of the healing water in your hands, swallowing it in great gulps. Much of the pain throughout your body eases as muscles heal and tendons reattach throughout your lower arms, and internal injuries begin to mend themselves. You even feel a tooth or two grow back.

“That should keep you standing at least,” Tenkotsuki tells you. “She is coming now. Are you ready?”

With a shrill, reverberating roar, Hollow-Yoruichi shatters the last bakudō around her. Severed lengths of chain fall to the ground around her, already dissolving into the air as her head whips back and forth. Finally she seems to notice you, and she growls in delight.

She disappears.

The first attack is a simple, mindless swipe across your chest that you mange to parry with your kodachi, followed by a kick that you block with the sheath. The raw power sends you sailing though the air and crashing heavily into a rock. At least one of your ribs cracks.

Though you stay on your feet, the two blows were absolutely incredible. You'll have to even things out somehow.

I tend to fully explore our hollow powers unlike the vizards.

>>39773408
No bankai yet.

Stay as close to the center of the cavern as we can to allow us to maneuver and reposition. Stay on the defensive and use our one kido that I can't think of the name of right now to have our afterimages going. If we get kicked out of melee, Cap'n might try and send us to Mexico with a spirit bomb.

>>
>>39773513
Thing is you rely too much on those hollow powers. you lose control. There's a reason you don't get high speed regen with just the mask. Not even Ichigo had it until his hollow self came out in a rampage.
>>
>>39773408
>Activate Sōkō Shunkō, try to match her strength and speed.

Try to keep more distance, use kido like a motherfucker, intersperse quick boosted ones with multiple casts, and if we get a good hit in, try to follow up with one of Tenko's divising.

Use Tenko to make illusions of us attacking or dodging in different ways to try and throw her off.

If we think Hojojutsu would help, do it, it seems good against someone who's acting a bit predictably.
>>
>>39773484
Depending on how long this fight goes on, we might need to turn it on just to cover up the fact we're fighting a hollow if there's a breech in the hull. Dog the hatches and hope we can stay in melee.
>>
>>39773561
I'd be worried that she'd go look for other targets. Defeats the point of containing her if she rushes out to wreck someone else.
>>
>>39773513
How the hell would we know about that in character?
>>
>>39773541
Perhaps, but would the wards come back up when we're done, or would we be forced into bankai for the entire duration? Hollows have basically only cero, while we rely quite a bit on our kidou. I think we're probably more disadvantaged by our bankai than hollow yoruichi if we have to maintain it.

One the other hand we have to be wary not just of being hit by ceros, but dodging them too. When we start fighting, could we try and steer towards areas where the ward is relatively undamaged?
>>
>>39773561
Wouldn't that just engage 'Cero everything mode'? after all, if you fill the room with enough death beams, eventually you're going to hit...

Hollowification is weird. You face your selfoul turned into a hollow and then your sword is also almost turned to one and forced On the body.

Only after regaining the fight for the soul does the sword return the body to normal.

Pushing your energy outwardly in an explosion of power, then pulling some of that power inwards through your veins, you activate your Sōkō Shunkō. Dust and dirt swirl wildly around you as Hollow-Yoruichi pounces on you.

Her claws you manage to smack aside with your fists, though each exchange hurts your hands. Her feet you manage to avoid as well, as your techniques keep you moving fast enough to avoid taking too much damage. But the longer you fight, the more you realize that your enemy's strength and speed are actually greater than your own, even in this form. The only thing keeping you in the fight is the fact that Yoruichi is completely out of control.

“Hadō 63, Raikōhō,” you shout, firing the weakened spell at the Hollow. She takes it right in the face, barely even flinching as it singes her hair. But that's not the point at all, as Tenkotsuki adds a little flourish to the spell.

The Hollow is terrifyingly powerful, but not too bright. It goes for your illusory double without hesitation, leaving her wide open to a rapid series of blows to her back. She screams in rage and swipes at you, but you've predicted her movement and parried with Tenkotsuki's blade. The force slides you several meters across the dirt as she begins to charge energy for a powerful attack.

“A cero!” Tenkotsuki shouts in your ears. “No... not a cero. That feels more like several ceros!”

Sure enough Tenkotsuki's observation proves correct: Hollow-Yoruichi has gathered powerful cero energy at the tips of her claws as reiatsu, dirt, and chunks of stone swirl around her in a chaotic vortex. An attack like that... it'll definitely destroy any barriers in place, and may not even be slowed enough to prevent them from destroying a large portion of the Seireitei. No regular Shinigami could survive that.

You can't let that happen.

It's about sensation and instinct, not about an elaborate setup or a chant, which makes it difficult to learn. The right mindset is one of a pure desire to impose your will on an unwilling cosmos, and nothing else that would distract you.

>Emptying your mind of concerns, worries, and even anything resembling a plan or forethought, you begin to reach out with one finger. You demand that the world split asunder for you, that the laws of reality that would otherwise impede your progress bend to your will until they shatter. And shatter they do. With a sound like fabric tearing, the very fabric of existence ripping open at your command, the Garganta appears. In its depths you see mostly darkness, but at the end a glimpse of pale sand drenched in eternal moonlight.

Garganta takes a while for you to manage, since it's not even a technique other Shinigami can even use at all let alone well.

There's not much time to think, and only two options. Neither of them are very good.

“Bankai,” you mutter as Yoruichi begins to release her attack. In the back of your mind you can hear Tenkotsuki sigh in resignation, understanding full well that the alternative is literally blowing yourself up. “Higeki no Ōjo.”

You don't even get the opportunity to admire the elegant twelve-layer kimono of blues and whites wraps around your body. Though the cero-claws disappear immediately, the energy that comprises them literally being crushed out of existence, Yoruichi's regular claws don't stop. And in this form, you understand that you're not fast enough to step out of the way. You knew that going in, and pinned this all on your own toughness and your Captain's inner strength.

Her claws tear deeply into your shoulders, staining your outfit with a concerning amount of blood. Despite your Blut still working, at least at partial strength, you feel bones crack throughout your body. With the last of your strength you drop Tenkotsuki to the ground to grasp the Hollow around its wrists.

“Gotcha...” you mutter, flashing the Hollow a toothy grin. “You're not goin' anywhere... not if I've got a say in it...”

As your vision dims, you see the mask beginning to crack. One of those black eyes has begun to return to normal, and both now stare out at you with a dawning realization and increasing concern.

“You...” she mutters.

You nod, as your grin eases into a genuine smile. “Welcome... back...”

The world spins, and everything goes dark as flakes of Hollow bone fall like snow all around you.

You have the strangest dream that night. Kensei, Love, and Shinji are all there, but they're being carried by Kisuke. Your Captain is there as well, her clothing still tattered but the blood now largely gone. Kisuke and Yoruichi argue about something, and you're not strong enough to butt in despite wanting to. She seems angry at him, yelling at him despite her obvious exhaustion that he should have trusted her.

And then they're gone again, the dark, heavy weight of exhaustion crashing down on you like the Sōkyoku hill above has crumbled and fallen in on you. The tension eases: the stony floor beneath your worn body is replaced by a futon, the heavy coffin becomes a light comforter. The crushing darkness is chased away by the pre-dawn glow.

Eventually, you're roused by an insistent prodding against your ribs.

You roll over, only to be pelted in the back as you mumble. “No... Yoru... not... in fronna...”

Suddenly you snap awake, sitting bolt upright to find an aggravated Suì Fēng standing over you. “One, you've invaded my quarters,” you growl. “Two, you're kicking me. You have five seconds to account for these mistakes or rectify them.”

“What've you done with Lady Yoruichi!?” she demands loudly.

What... have you done with her? Oh, right. You keep forgetting Suì Fēng's not at the same level as you, which means it's harder for her to feel out spiritual energy. To you, though, finding a pressure as strong and familiar as that of her Mistress is a trivial matter. You yawn, stretching your arms above your head before fumbling across the uniform that's been laid out at your bedside.

Why's she even worrying, though? It's not like Yoruichi would run off without telling you or something.

“Don't get your undies in a twist,” you scold her. “And use your senses for once. She's on the Sōkyoku hill... with two other Captains. Wait...”

A sense of dread fills your heart as you notice a pair of badly-crushed black butterfly wings resting on your pillow. Oh. Ooooh.

Oh shit.

“Sorrykidgottago!” you shout, quickly throwing on all the rest of your uniform and tumbling out off your balcony into the garden below, still trying desperately to straighten your clothes. You garner a few odd stares as you dash towards where the Captains' Competency Exam is probably going to be held for you any moment now. You may even be late already.

As you dash down one alleyway after the other, the air currents you leave in your wake scatter the falling cherry blossoms in a mad storm of pink. Ordinarily you might have stopped to enjoy the scenery, but you've got no time this morning. Your body feels strangely light, considering the extent of your injuries last night. You've probably been healed again, you realize.

Yoruichi waves to you lazily as you reach the top of the Sōkyoku hill, where she and two other Captains are waiting for you: Jūshirō from Thirteenth Division and Lord Ginrei from Sixth. They stand together, a stiff breeze making their white jackets billow and sway as if given life of their own. Ukitake's long white hair is similarly lively this morning, and were it not for what you know occurred last night you might be in a mood to tease him about it. But as friendly as his smile seems, the mood is decidedly somber.

“I take it your Captain has made you aware of what has occurred?” Lord Ginrei asks you from behind his bushy mustache, which seems to know better than to misbehave like Ukitake's hair is doing.

You nod quietly. “I know some of it,” you reply, swallowing an unexpected hint of bitterness over the ordeal. He mustn't know you know not because of anything Yoruichi said, but because you were directly involved.

If you're late, nobody makes any mention of it.

“Good. That will make matters simpler,” he continues. “We have brought you here as a formality; as we do not currently have the nine Captains required to appoint you to the position of Ninth Division Captain, we are left with no recourse but to hold a proficiency examination.”

You look around at the desolate, wind-swept landscape surrounding the four of you, finally wondering aloud what's been on your mind since you got here. “Why the Sōkyoku hill?”

“Captain Yoruichi insisted that your abilities can be quite... grandiose,” Ukitake explains. “We wanted you to have plenty of space to let loose.”

“I appreciate the gesture,” you nod wearily. “But if you really wanted me to 'let loose' you should've found a bigger space. Sirs.”

Ukitake laughs enthusiastically, clearly not understanding how deadly serious you were being. “Well, that's the spirit then! It's common knowledge your shunpo and hakuda are up to snuff, so let's skip that part.”

“It would be a waste of time,” Ginrei agrees with a solemn nod. “Even as a formality. Instead, please show us the most powerful kidō you know.”

You might be overreacting. Kisuke did the initial training, and any training that Yoruichi did took place in SS, where she basically just sat back and watched him get brutalised by Fake!Zangetsu to achieve Bankai.

As long as we aren't blanking Kisuke out entirely, things will proceed as intended, unless we've thrown a massive spanner in somewhere else, which is actually fairly likely.

Point being that this change won't have a huge impact on that particular part of the plot. He certainly won't be Chad 'King Job' Yasutora. I don't even think that's possible.

“I'll need a target,” you reply. Lord Ginrei points you towards what looks like an oversized sandbag: you recognize that it's a portable punching bag, designed to resist reiatsu. “Is it okay if I break it?”

Yoruichi chuckles to herself. “I'm hoping you do.”

You nod, taking a moment to ensure the other two Captains are paying proper attention.

“Kuyō Shibari,” you declare, using your own unincanted version of the spell. Its familiar nine black orbs are noticeably weaker than when Tenkotsuki helps you out, but are still decent enough work. And their raw power is diminished, so your next move won't risk maiming you.

Ukkitake cocks his head at you. “I thought you said you were gonna...”

A tenth ball of black energy appears at your palm, and you crush it in your hand. “Yūgure Kasō.”

The previous spell explodes in a powerful column of black flames, even tremendous despite being far weaker than when you last used this technique. The punching bag disappears entirely in the raging, shadowy inferno.

“The Twilight Cremation,” you explain, waving your slightly singed hand. “A numberless spell that detonates a Kuyō Shibari to devastating effect, similar to a mid-nineties attack.”

Lord Ginrei glares at you. “To think, even after Tessai nearly destroyed his barracks with that spell, eh taught it to another? Does his irresponsibility know no limits?”

“Actually,” you admit, “that casting was me as well, at full strength. Nearly burned my arm off.”

Ukitake nods quietly, obviously impressed. “So you weakened the spell and reduced the backlash to a manageable level... quite impressive, considering number ninety-six will take your arm for a comparable effect without the option to throttle it back.”

Silently, you decide they don't need to know about the Quincy technique that saved your arm the first time.

"Most impressive, young woman," Captain Kuchiki congratulates you. You'd almost say there was a hint of warmth there. "No wonder young Byakuya seems so set on surpassing your skills. To call you a mere stepping stone on the way to Captain Yoruichi would be selling you short."

"Thank you, Captain," you reply with a small bow. Tenkotsuki seems happy at the compliment as well. "I assume you wan to see my Shikai now?"

Ukitake nods thoughtfully. "I've seen it released once or twice, but you've never explained what it does. I'm interested."

You sweep your blade from her sheath, and transform it in the same movement. Even that seems to surprise Yoruichi's colleagues.

"Impressive," Lord Ginrei offers. "That demonstrates a close bond between Zanpakuto and Shinigami... rare in one so young."

"That's nothing," you grin. "Watch this. Tenkotsuki?"

After some hesitation, you get your sword to agree to sealing and releasing herself rapidly, causing her blade to lengthen and shrink repeatedly for the Captains' amusement. Finally, she stops in her sealed form.

"That is more than enough," she growls, though you can tell she's giving you a hard time.

"Fine, sorry," you apologize aloud. "Just... release again. This'll be over soon enough."

Reluctantly, she agrees.

"So, other than that," Yoruichi asks, trying to give you some sort of hint with the way she waggles her eyebrows and fingers at you, "what can Tenkotsuki do?"

The good thing about having a shikai with such an extensive arsenal is that it is entirely believable that just a single one of the stronger abilities can pass off for the entire thing.

Things we definitely do not want getting out are the ability to dispel illusions, and the bankai. If we can, it might be a decent idea to pass off the spell modification as Bankai, and demonstrate the See-Me-Not Hakudo as a proof of concept, since that is an extremely intimidating spell.

You might have a point there. The reason I opted for that one was because it's a worryingly potent spell, and would draw an impressive reaction from them.

>Half-truth, pass off her ability to cast spells through the blade and sheath as your Shikai.
>>
>>39776427
There are some nonsensical apsects to bankai. Like toshiro's timer, but given that bankai is more of physical manifestation of the spirit it makes sense given how much tenkotsuki wears.
>>
>>39776107
You take a moment to retrieve another punching bag, which you drag along behind you like a prisoner condemned to die.

After setting it up, you resheath Tenkotsuki and free her sheath from your sash.

“Bakudō 63: Sajo Sabaku. Hadō 73: Sōren Sōkatsui,” you quickly recite, feeling the spells enter your sheath and sword respectively.

“Nothing's happening,” Yoruichi observes, putting words to what her confused colleagues must be thinking. She probably already knows what's going to happen, but still wants it to be a surprise.

Your hirenkyaku propels you towards the target at blinding speeds, and your first blow lands as you draw the sheath diagonally across your body from below. It strikes the target dummy and releases the Sajo Sabaku, and bright yellow chains of light quickly wind around the target and anchor it to the ground. The momentum from the strike nearly sends the target flying, but the chains hold it fast in place. What it really does is gives you a bit of space to withdraw the sheath until it's high over your left shoulder, then draw Tenkotsuki's blade lightning-quick. The massive blue waves of Sōren Sōkatsui release as your blade slashes through the target, burning away anything that was left and destroying the chains in a flash of light.

“My Shikai is a two-weapon type, that allows me to cast spells into my sword and sheath,” you explain to the stunned Captains. Even Yoruichi seems to have enjoyed the display. “It lets me deliver normally slow spells at the speed of my blade... which as you saw is quite fast. My Captain saw to that.”

“Most impressive,” Ukitake grins manically. “I see your swords like eating spells, too. I like it.”

“Sort of?” you admit, scratching at your hair. “I don't know I'd put it that way though.”

And now, the question you've been pondering comes up: your Bankai. What are you going to do about that? An ability like Tenkotsuki's is truly best left hidden... not even Yoruichi really knows what it does, though she must have some suspicions.

“Do not use my Bankai's true name,” Tenkotsuki suggests. “Giving a Shinigami the wrong name for a Bankai lets them use a much weaker technique, until they are ready to learn their true Bankai. Do this, and you may be able to pass of my spell modifying techniques and speaking the incantations for you as Bankai.”

>the spell you just used clings to your two kodachi like flames
>two kodachi

I know it might only apply to shikai, but if we go through the long version of reciting for the released form to our bankai and show the twin swords, Shunsui and Juushirou might just be amused enough to grant approval with no further inquiries.
>>
>>39776857
“Bankai... Higeki no Hime,” you call out to your sword, deliberately botching the name to withhold Tenkotsuki's full power. Your outfit is decidedly less complicated than it is in your true Bankai, now only comprising five layers. It's easier to move around in though which lets you show off a bit after setting out a third target.

You settle on Haien being a good spell to try out, silently willing Tenkotsuki to work her magic. Instead of lancing out towards your target and incinerating it, the spell clings to your twin blades like violet flames, heatless but obviously deadly.

“Watch carefully,” you advise your fellow Captains. “I don't like showing this ability, if I can get away with it.” Only Yoruichi seems to realize that what's coming isn't your true Bankai, which piques her interest all the more.

Hirenkyaku doesn't damage your clothes in this form of Bankai... either they're too billowy for that, or more likely Tenkotsuki just refuses to allow you to appear so shabby before an audience. Your first blow is a powerful uppercut that sends the target dummy straight into the air.

“IKKOTSU!” you roar as the blow connects, before dashing up after it. One slash of your flaming kodachi, two slashes, then three: each leaves a deep gouge in the target where Haien's flames cling like oil and flicker, burning into its kidō-resistant shell as if it were a trivial thing. As the target's meteoric rise finally slows you roll beneath it, and build pressure between one of your middle fingers and thumb.

The powerful flick sends a shockwave that propels the target dummy still higher, until you're sure you must be thousands of meters into the air, before you use a third step of hirenkyaku to get out ahead of it.

Casting alongside Tenkotsuki, you release a full-power spell. “Hadō 88: Hiryu Gekizoku Shinten Raiho!”
(1/?)
>>
>>39777108
With an overwhelming blast of blue reiatsu, you annihilate the dummy midair. The spell continues all the way down to the Sōkyoku hill far below you, gouging out a tremendous crater where it impacts. Not long after that you fall lightly to the ground in front of your three-Captain audience, your two kodachi still apparently on fire. With an appropriate flourish of your blades, lifted shamelessly from Eishin-ryu's blade-cleaning technique, the flames of Haien finally gutter out. Yoruichi lets out an appreciative whoop, while Ginrei and Ukitake simply stare at you as your clothes return to normal.

You sheath your sword, satisfied that the test is pretty much over now.

“That was a...” Ginrei asks incredulously.

“Yup.”

“And then, with no incantation?” Ukitake presses.

“Also yup.”

Yoruichi grins as she tosses you a sleeveless white coat, lined on the inside with a deep orange and bearing the character “9” on the back. “I don't care how or what. I think that's good enough. Any objections?”

“I did have one question,” Ginrei muses as you don your new uniform component. “How do you feel about Captain Urahara's supposed involvement in last night's incident?”

Yoruichi's previously excited expression suddenly becomes unreadable.

>Point out that last you checked he was here when Kensei got in trouble.
>You don't know. At some point you hope to ask him.

“Don't know. If the Central 46 decided he's guilty that's one thing, but if I ever see him again I plan to ask him myself.”

“Sounds as if you have your doubts as well,” Ginrei mutters softly. “You are wise to keep them to yourself.”

“I think that's all for today, Captain Kusajishi,” Jūshirō tells you, waving you off. “Your few personal possessions will be moved to your new home, and you can address your Division over the evening meal. Until then you're free to go.”

“And I would suggest you not keep your fellow Captains waiting again,” Ginrei warns you.

You grin, gently massaging your head. “Sorry, I kinda... well, I think I swallowed the hell butterfly in my sleep.”

“You swallowed it?” Ukitake stares at you. “That's... never happened before. Ever. I didn't even know that COULD happen.”

“Sorry, both of you,” Yoruichi bows politely. “But I've got to find myself a new Lieutenant now.”

“And celebrate with the old one, I'd warrant,” Ginrei grins back at her knowingly. “Go. The old men will handle Aizen's examination.”

“Thank you," she replies as their shunpo carry them towards First Division's meeting hall.

“I know what you're thinking,” Yoruichi mutters to you when they're gone. “It'd make a great story about friendship and loyalty and all that good shit, but let's be serious here. Let's say for a moment that I ran off with Kisuke: what would that actually accomplish? I'd be blowing any chance we mighta had to investigate as two Captains... for what? So I could sit around on my hands and watch him work?”

She turns to face you, both of your white jackets fluttering lazily on the breeze as the cherry trees around the peak of the hill sigh gently. “And besides, I don't think I could abandon you like that. And now even if the investigation doesn't pay off, we can at least be sitting on our hands together."

"That didn't sound as dirty in my head, but you get the point.”
