"Okay," you say. "Sign me up."

Susan grins and extends her hand. You shake it firmly, unable to resist smiling yourself.

"Great! I'll put you in the system right now. As a starting agent, you'll have limited access to our resources, similar to what we gave you for your previous mission. Send us your banking account information when you get a chance and we'll discuss how the money will be sent and how much you'll be paid."

"Ah, right, I need to set up a checking account or something. Uh, I'll get back to you on that as soon as possible."

You feel a little relieved as you realize you probably won't have to spend any of your own money on equipment or transportation. Calling a taxi is an option now, although you wonder if you can get your parents to buy you a cheap used car. Maybe you can buy one once you get paid.

She gets up, taking your empty water bottle as she does so. Huh, you must have been thirstier than you thought.

"Give me your burner phone and I'll go grab you a new one," she says. "I'd offer you a more detailed tour of the building, but I know you're in a hurry to get back."

You hand her your burner phone and she quickly strides out of the room. Checking your pockets, you find that you have a bit of cash remaining, enough to pay for the train and bus fares.

How far away is HQ from our place anyway? Seems like quite a way if it takes train AND bus.

Not far, you just don't have any other modes of transportation at the moment. Bus is just for going from the station to your college, the station is near campus.

Or Rachel will get caught up with the shenanigans of a wereman on the way back that leads to the blossoming of a whirlwind romance. Later, as she find herself in his arms, lost in his eyes, he leans in close... only for him to turn back into a small dog as the moon goes down.
I expect the vote on whether or not to adopt the pomeranian as a pet to be quite contentious.

Time to head home, you suppose. Although it's not really home, you're just going back to college. Your parents would probably throw a fit if you somehow managed to get home now, right before finals.

Oh shit, finals. You've got your first one on Monday, and today's already Saturday.

You bounce a little on your bed, waiting for Susan to come back with the phone. It makes your back hurt a lot, actually, so you force yourself to stop moving.

She comes back quickly, thankfully enough. "Do you have enough money to get back?" she asks.

You briefly toy with the idea of lying so you can get some more spending money, but then you realize that would be a petty thing to do and that you'd have access to funds anyway as an agent, so you end that line of though. "Yeah, I'm good. It's a short train ride anyways."

She nods, handing you the phone. It's a little more advanced than the previous phone they gave you. Still a little clunky, but at least it has a touchscreen. "Not as disposable as the last one, considering our limited budget, but feel free to ditch it if you feel like you're being tracked. You can stay in touch with us through it, and we'll send you any information or tasks we need you to do. No installing other software onto it though, sorry. It doesn't use any of your standard operating systems."

(1/4)
>>
You turn it over in your hands. It has a black matte case that seems to be some sort of tough plastic, a small camera on the back and front, and no logo. It doesn't seem to be of a make you can recognize, but you're not really that well-versed in phone models.

"Any super-secret spy functions?" you say half-jokingly.

Susan cracks a smile. "If you hold down the home button, the power button, both volume buttons, and that little bump on the top for a 5 seconds, you can completely wipe the phone of all of its data. It'll be unusable afterwards, of course, so be careful where you put it so you don't accidentally wipe your phone when you need it."

You put your fingers into a position to press the buttons, using your index finger and thumb from both hands. It's actually not very hard to do. "I was kidding, but that's pretty cool."

You stand up and try to put the phone into the pocket of your jeans. It fits quite snugly, but the buttons are inset so you don't have to worry about them being pressed upon.

You check the time. It's past 1PM now, and you should get going. Susan walks with you to the entrance of the building, waving as she passes by the reception desk. The overcast skies and slight wind are a bit ominous, but at least it's not raining. And even though it's December, it's not too cold due to the local climate.

(2/4)
>>
Susan stops by the parking lot. "There's a map function on your phone, so if you want you can find the train station and walk to it if you want. It's not far." She glances at your back. "But due to your current condition, I would prefer to drive you there. Is that alright?"

"Yup," you say. "Besides, I'd rather not get jumped by some supernatural creature on the streets."

"You won't have to worry too much about that," Summer assures you. "We keep the area near our headquarters relatively safe, and even the less intelligent supes know to stay away from or at least refrain from revealing themselves in front of large numbers of humans."

The two of you get into a black unmarked sedan, and Susan drives you to the train station. True to her word, it's a short ten-minute drive. You say your goodbyes to Susan and tell her that you'll take her up on her offer of a tour next time.

As she drives off, you go to the ticketing machine and buy a one-way ticket to UCal. The schedule says that the train is going to be here in half an hour, so you sit down at an unoccupied bench and play with your phone.

The cameras on the front and back of the phone take decent quality pictures, enough for you to be able to zoom and get a few more details out of the image. There's a map function, which seems to have some sort of GPS, and a texting application.

(3/4)
>>
You use the camera to tidy yourself up, untangling the remaining tangles in your still lavender-pink hair and rubbing off the last bits of the fake tattoo on your jaw. You're loathe to part with your pink glasses, considering everything that it's been through with you, so you just decide that you'll find somewhere to hide it before Alice or anyone you know sees you.

The train arrives exactly on time. As you step on board, you notice that it's mostly empty, the only occupant some strange lady by the door sitting on a mat and playing with some sticks. A furred hood covers her face as she looks downward, making it hard for you to determine how old she is.

You notice a ticket stub is on the mat, wedged under a stick, so you decide that she's a legitimate paying passenger and not some hobo who snuck onto the train. You shrug her weird appearance off and take a seat a few rows down from her.

You wedge your own ticket into place on the top of your seat, then sit down gingerly, the row of stitches along your back making themselves as you try to lie backwards.

The train ride is going to be 15 minutes long, so you have a little bit of time to kill. Also, you should probably start thinking of excuses for whatever happened to your back and the huge splotch of blood staining your t-shirt.

Who just talks to random people they meet on the train? Or maybe I'm just super anti-social.

Oh, forgot to add, and if it does record video, maybe try to discreetly point it towards the woman for a moment while recording, then view the video afterwards? Making sure the volume is muted.

Anyone have an excuse for the wound?

I was thinking we went to a party and got hyper-drunk and woke up at the hospital with the stitches, same with the hair.
>>
By the way, sorry if I wasn't clear guys, but multiple options are allowed as long as you can reasonably perform them. For example, you don't have to spend 15 minutes staring at your phone and you can use part of that time to talk to someone or do something else instead.

So yeah, feel free to select multiple options. I'll tell you specifically if you can't perform all of the ones you selected.

I feel like we only really need an excuse if someone asks.

But, I feel like something simpler that can't be proved false very easily might be better. Went for a night run, tripped(fell down a hill) and fell on(across?) something sharp, someone found us and took us to the hospital. (also gives us an excuse for more jobs at night, we just went for a longer run. Or "oops, tripped and twisted by ankle")

A good story, but kinda a scary with how the harmful bit is unknown. That could give Alice or someone else additional reasons to try to look into it, and I don't think it would hold up then.

I was thinking something simple. Maybe Rachel was at a nearby park (or some other public but somewhat secluded area), tripped and fell back against a rusty bit of railing, then spent most of the rest of the evening making her way to an emergency room and waiting to get stitches and a tetanus shot.

I am actually having a hard time googling this, It is mostly deliberate self harm or faking an injury you don't have, nothing on how to lie about actually getting an injury.
>>
>>39798776
"I fell down some stairs, into a door. And the door didn't care for that one bit, so it pulled a knife, and just, dang, I'm just glad I was able to get away. Doors, yo. Doors are a jar with nothing but trouble in 'em."
>>
>>39799077
We can always go "Fuck you, I am not talking about it."
>>
Hmm. Maybe you could say you went to a party and got super, super drunk and woke up with the hair and the injury. Except you don't drink, and you probably don't want your friends to think that you drink. Or party. You're not really a partying type of girl.

Your hair, though, could just be written off as a personal choice. You kinda like it anyways. Maybe you dyed your hair with your friend or something.

Eh, you'll just wing it. Maybe Alice will make some assumptions you can just piggyback off of.

You think of engaging the strange lady in conversation, but whatever she's doing to those sticks is kind of creepy. You're pretty sure she's not just playing pick-up sticks with herself.

Instead, you just play with your phone some more. The camera function, as it turns out, also records video at a good framerate and quality. There's a little storage meter on the bottom telling you how filled the phone is, and it's currently completely empty. You record your shoes for a few seconds and notice that the meter barely even moved.

After deleting the video, you find the settings of the phone and set up a password for it. You decide that it shouldn't be too long, in case you need to use the phone in a hurry, and you probably shouldn't be letting the phone out of your sight anyways.

(1/2)
>>
You put in a 5-digit string of letters and numbers that kind of make sense to you, then type the password in a couple of times to make sure you can open the phone in a hurry.

You're able to unlock your phone in about a second by the time your stop is announced. You carefully raise yourself out of the seat and make your way down the aisle, only to find yourself blocked by the strange lady as she gathers her sticks into the mat and stands up to leave the train. She's a lot taller than you, but you can't see much else due to the cloak swirling around her.

You find yourself awkwardly following her as you walk toward the bus stop, the two of you apparently heading the same way. She either doesn't notice you or doesn't care as the two of you walk across the street and sit yourselves down at the same bench.

Huh, that's weird. She smells a little like smoke and dirt. You're not sure if you should be worried about whether you can smell the dirt on someone, or that she smells so strongly of it. Maybe it's some kind of perfume?

The sign says that the bus is going to be arriving in about five minutes.

You kind of want to go back to fiddling with your phone, but you also don't want to seem like you're ignoring her purposely because she of the way she's dressed.

Or maybe you should be avoiding her. That's what your parents would tell you to do. You resist the urge to slide away from her.

Yeah, no.

Mysterious strangers who smell like smoke and earth? She probably set fire to a house and buried some bodies in the woods or something. Maybe she's on the run from the cops, and you're going to be caught up in some sort of shootout. Wait, oh god, she's probably hiding an axe under there and maybe even a shotgun or somethi—

"H-hey, you okay? You're kind of freaking me out here."

You blink, turning to the source of the voice.

A girl with long tresses red hair, pale blue eyes, and striking features stares back at you with a nervous smile. "Hi? You haven't said anything the entire time, and I was wondering if you were okay? You're not some kind of stalker, right?" She laughs nervously. "I mean, not that you look like one."

What?

You open your mouth and close it, unable to respond a suitable response."What?"

She looks right back at you, just as confused. "Huh?"

Uh. "Wait, let's start over," you say. "I'm Rachel, nice to meet you."

"I'm Caroline," she says, sounding relieved.

"You, uh...come here often?" you ask.

"Yeah, I go to UCal," she says. "You go there too?"

You nod. "Yup, heading there right now. Sorry I didn't talk to you earlier, your whole getup and the whatever you were doing with those sticks kind of weirded me out."

"So it isn't weird now?" she asks, smirking.

"Well, now that I know you're also a college student and not some sort of witchy fortune teller," you counter with a smile of your own. "Cool cloak thing, though. Looks pretty warm."

"Thanks!" she says brightly. "I made it myself, took me the whole summer."

The two of you make conversation the rest of the time as you wait for the bus. You find out that she's a sophmore and an ecology major, and that her current object of interest is trying to figure out ways to do fortune telling. She eventually admits that she got bored of the sticks on the train and started building houses with them.

You laughed long and hard when she said that, partially at her but mostly at yourself. She pouted and asked you to explain and you did, making her burst into giggles too.

The bus eventually shows up a little later than expected, and the two of you step on.

The two of you sit down in the back of the bus, Caroline taking the window seat.

"So, any luck with the whole fortune telling thing?" you ask. "It'd be pretty cool to have someone tell my fortune."

"Sure," she says. "Fifty dollars and I'll give you some vaguely worded regurgitated wisdom I learned from reading uncited quotes of famous people on random websites."

You roll your eyes. "I mean like real fortune telling, not that snake-oil crap."

She shrugs. "What did you have in mind?"

"I dunno," you say. "I don't know much about fortune telling myself. Maybe tarot cards? Or reading tea leaves?"

She shakes her head. "Tarot cards? They used to be playing cards, and I'm pretty sure you can make them fit to whatever you want them to tell you. The tea leaves were even worse, I could look at the same thing and have it tell me a different thing every time. Hell, some of the advice I looked up just told me to go with 'whatever I felt was right'. So no, they didn't really tell me anything."

"...But you're still trying stuff? With the sticks?"

"Well, just because the things I've tried so far turned out to be frauds doesn't mean that I'm not interested in this kind of stuff," she explains. "I'm kind of hoping that one of these methods is going to give me repeatable, accurate results."

"Darn," you say. "Now I really want my fortune to be told."

Seriously, you could really use one right now. You'd like to know whether or not what you just did last night would be good or bad in the long run. Maybe there's a supernatural creature out there that could give you an accurate fortune telling.

(1/2)
>>
"Well," Caroline says carefully, breaking you out of your line of thought. "I've kinda been having a feeling lately. It's probably going to sound stupid when I say it out loud though."

"You can't say something like that and leave me hanging," you complain. "Come on, tell me."

She sighs, and looks into your eyes. "It's everywhere, you know? A little more in some places, some people, but it's growing."

It's hard for you to look away from those pale blue irises, but you finally break your staring contest with her and frown. "Can you explain more clearly? You just said something about not being vague."

"I can't," she says frustratedly, leaning back and running a hand through her hair. "Maybe I caught a bad head cold or something, but there's been this sort of pressure on me and I can feel something out there."

You're silent as she crosses her arms and leans against the window, biting her lip. She seems to be in a bad mood.

You really don't want to end the bus ride with this kind of mood.

"Hey, no, I believe you," you say.

She looks over at you. "Really? I mean, you're probably just saying that to make me feel better..."

A lot of complicated stuff that have very concrete explanations that, ultimately, really just explain the process of harnessing a natural phenomena. Some spare aluminum foil and some wiring can pick up a solid TV signal like magic, despite there being a solid explanation for it. There's a method to send those signals, and a natural phenomena that allows it, despite being completely invisible to the eye. So what's to say there's not more phenomena out there, just lacking a method?

You look around to make sure no one is listening in on your conversation before leaning toward her.

"Look, don't tell anyone about this, but I'm pretty interested in paranormal and supernatural stuff."

She looks skeptical. "Like, urban legends?"

"Sure," you say. "Something like that. But trust me, I've seen and I'm pretty sure there are stranger things than just people having weird feelings. Not that your feelings don't mean anything, but that I believe that you really do feel something." You pause. "Uh, I hope I got my point across."

She nods, looking at you curiously. "I believe that you believe me ," she chuckles. "Thanks. You're going to have to tell me about those supernatural things sometimes, though."

Oooh boy. Maybe you'll tell her when you can make sure she doesn't tell anyone else. Or maybe you can just tell her the rumors and lies, although thinking about lying to her doesn't feel too good, especially since you know the truth.

"Yeah, maybe sometime," you say noncommitally.

The bus ride reaches your area of the campus quickly. You get off while Caroline stays on, her stop being further than your's due to her living in an apartment off-campus.

Your dorm is a 4-story building, your room on the 4th floor, giving you a great view of the campus. You move to take the stairs two steps at a time as you normally do, only to realize that you still have your back injury.

(1/2)
>>
Sighing, you instead take the elevator up, your foot tapping impatiently as the elevator slowly crawls upward. When the doors open, you quickly turn left and walk past the open communal area, toward your room in the middle of the hallway.

You realize you don't have the keycard to your room and knock instead. There's the sound of one of those flexible office chairs cracking back into place from inside the room as someone gets up. You realize you still have the fake glasses on your face and end up shoving them into the sleeve of your jacket.

Alice opens the door and immediately narrows her eyes, looking closely at you. She looks the same as ever, with her short brown hair, green eyes, and predisposition for cutesy clothing.

"Welcome back," she finally says, giving you a smile. "Where have you been for the past two days? And what's up with the hair?"

"It's a long story," you deflect. "I'm going to go grab some clothes and change first, alright?"

"Sure, sure," she says. "But don't think I'm going to forget that you disappeared on me without warning and left your cellphone and student ID behind."

(2/3)

You grimace as you grab a fresh t-shirt, underwear, and jeans and head to the bathroom to change. You check the stalls to make sure no one is in them before taking off your jacket and lifting your t-shirt up in front of a mirror.

Turning around and craning your neck, you see from the corner of your eye that the wound on your back is neatly stitched closed and doesn't seem to be oozing or anything. It shouldn't scare your roommate too much if she ever asks to see it.

You head back into the stalls to change, eyeing the showers longingly. You're pretty sure that there's a rule about not showering for a day after getting your stitches, which means that you're not going to be able to shower for another fifteen hours or so.

Wait a minute, aren't you a fae now? Couldn't you just try to glamour your wound away? Summer did say something about the glamour not being very permanent unless you held it for a while, but right now your main concern is hiding the wound.

...Nah, you'll just come up with an excuse for Alice. Besides, what you if you mess up the glamouring? You're pretty sure Summer didn't say anything about that.

You change clothes quickly before Alice decides to check up on you. You wrap your ruined t-shirt up in your jacket and jeans, hiding the bloodstain, and you transfer your phone and your fake accessories to your new pair of jeans. You put your fake glasses in the bundle too so Alice doesn't see them.

Your shoes, thankfully, stayed mostly clean through the ordeal, although there's a bit of gunk on the bottom. You wash them quickly in the sink, scrubbing them with a paper towel, and put them back on.

Maybe you'll keep the t-shirt as a souvenir or something, like with the glasses. It might smell, though, so you'd probably have to put it in a glass frame or an airtight bag.

...That sounds like a lot of trouble. Maybe you should just throw it away so no one finds it and asks you uncomfortable questions.

After quickly washing your face, you head back to your room. Your mind churns as you think of a good excuse to tell Alice. Bear attack? No way. Mugger? Ehh. Might make her worry too much.

By the time you're face to face with Alice, you think you have a decent excuse thought up. You're both sitting on your beds, facing each other.

You take a deep breath. "Okay, so, I went to go visit a friend and she helped me dye my hair."

Alice grabs a pillow and places it behind herself before leaning back against the wall. "Uh huh. You think I don't notice how carefully you're moving right now? And have you seen how tired you look?"

"Uh..."

"Are you in a gang? Did you get in a fight?"

(1/2)
>>
"No, no," you say hurriedly. "Nothing like that. I just tripped like an idiot and fell really awkwardly against a sharp piece of fence. I got a lot of stitches and had to stay overnight at the hospital."

Alice winces. "Oh, that's what happened? Why didn't you just tell me that?"

"I...I didn't want you to worry," you say truthfully. "Sorry. Er, you wanna see the stitches?"

"Nope," she says, covering her eyes. "Please don't show them to me. Look, next time just tell me if you're injured or something. You'll make me worry even more if you try to hide it."

You breathe a sigh of relief. "Yeah, you're right. Sorry about that."

She nods. "Apology accepted. Did the doctor tell you how long it would take for it to heal?"

"Nah," you say. "But I'm supposed to avoid doing anything strenuous while it heals. Don't want it to rip open again or anything."

"Ew," Alice complains. "Okay, enough about nasty injuries. What are you going to do about midterms next week?"

You're gratefully take the shift in conversation topic and talk about school for awhile with her. You've got a few hours of daylight left, and you should probably try to make the most of it.

Like the good student you are, you decide to study first to make sure you're prepared for the finals.

Your grades have always been pretty decent through middle school and high school, and you plan to keep it that way for the first quarter of college. You sit at your desk, put on a pair of earbuds to muffle any distractions, and study until you begin to fall asleep.

It's almost midnight now. You put away your notes and books, confident that you should be able to do reasonably well on the finals. Considering you actually went to class unlike some of your friends, you have much less studying to do compared to them.

Alice is still hunched over her laptop, a large pair of headphones covering her ears as she frantically scrolls through a pdf document. You decide not to bother her, leaving the lights on as you collapse stomach-first onto your bed. After a bit of pillow-wrangling, you have your pillow in a sort of comfortable position that doesn't cut off your air intake. And then you pass out.

---

(1/2)
>>
You wake up the next morning well-refreshed, having obtained a good seven and a half hours of sleep. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining through your window, and Alice is dangerously close to falling out of her chair as she drools on her notebook.

You shake her awake and convince her to move to the bed, removing her headphones and placing them on the table as you do so. The moment she touches her bed, she grabs her blanket and covers herself up, then goes back to sleep.

Taking the opportunity while she's asleep, you grab a plastic shopping bag and shove your t-shirt and fake accessories inside, then drop it down the trash chute on your floor. No reason in leaving evidence where it can be found, you decide.

Speaking of evidence, you wonder what happened during the aftermath of the incident with Summer. Did they cover it up? Did anything about you get out? You feel like you should probably make inquiries toward that area so no one connects some pink-haired girl in that incident to you.

Well, you think Susan took care of it, but you probably need to check up on the situation just in case.

Your jacket and jeans should be fine after going through the washer, so you throw them into the laundry bin along with your underwear and socks. You check your work phone, and it shows that you have unread messages. Your personal phone also has a few messages, probably from your friends.

It's been about twenty-four hours, you reason, so you can probably take a shower as long as you're careful. Other than that, what else is on your agenda for the day?

You decide to shower first before checking your messages. It's been an entire day and you're pretty grimy from the sweat and blood you've been immersed in. As you shower, you awkwardly bend over and keep your head away from your body as you shampoo it, and you make sure your body wash doesn't get anywhere near your stitches. You're extra careful when toweling yourself off too, taking care not to stretch the skin near the wound and instead just patting yourself off.

You check your messages when you go back to your room, drying your hair with a towel in one hand as you scroll through your phones with the other. You check your work phone first, finding a few messages from Susan that detail your instructions and your starting pay.

It seems that at the moment, your college campus doesn't have any shady ongoings or persistent rumors, which means that you need be even more careful because something is bound to crop up sooner or later. Your starting pay is a thousand dollars a month, about on par for a part-time job.

Wow. A thousand dollars, all for you. That's a pretty substantial amount, especially since your parents are currently paying for your living expenses. At this rate you'll have enough to buy a used car within a few months.

(1/2)
>>
Your excitement is tempered when you remember how Summer probably could have killed you at any time, the furrow down your back a stark reminder. Maybe the pay is reasonable, after all, considering the risk of death in this line of work. Although they did say your future missions wouldn't be as dangerous as your previous one.

The last part of the message tells you that you won't be sent on missions for one or two months, depending on how quickly you heal. You can shorten that period by going to the headquarters and proving to them that you're fit to work.

Your other phone has a few messages from your friends in your group chat, mostly asking if you want to hang out after finals week. Chloe in particular wants to celebrate by introducing you and the other two to alcohol, while Laura and Mark make half-hearted protests against such blatant rule-breaking.

After dressing yourself appropriately, you head out to breakfast. The dining hall is pretty close to your dorm, so you take your time getting there and devote some attention to looking around for suspicious people. After all, you have job to do.

But soon you realize that you're starting to see how every random person you pass by could conceivably be some sort of monster in disguise. For example, you wouldn't usually give a second glance to the tired-looking girl by the bike racks, but now you're wondering if she's some sort of nocturnal vampire who just came back from feasting upon the blood of innocents. Or whether or not that short, muscle-bound man with a particularly impressive beard is actually a human or just an extraordinarily tall dwarf.

(2/4)
>>
Being too suspicious is bad, you decide. Even if they were some sort of supernatural creature, you wouldn't really have a reason to report them if they weren't doing anything to harm others.

The dining hall has a surprisingly large amount of people, considering the fact that it's Sunday morning and you were expecting most people to sleep in. It's nowhere near the amount of people that would be here for lunch, but its still a pretty decent number. You suppose the lure of a convenient breakfast is just too much to pass up.

Usually you either skip out on breakfast or buy something from the convenience store, but if you're going to do your job you're going to do it correctly. That means going to places where there are lots of people and maybe eavesdropping on more dubious ones.

The dining hall is buffet-styled, with self-serve pancake and waffle makers. Pre-made scrambled eggs and sausages are off to one side in dishes you can take, and one of the counters has people lining up to get omelets that are made on the spot with a selection of ingredients.

(3/4)
>>
Unwilling to wait in line, you grab some scrambled eggs and sausages and head off to a table in the back. You quickly realize from the saliva accumulating uncontrollably in your mouth that the only thing you've had to eat for the past day was snacks while you were studying. You lose yourself in the food for a few minutes, gorging yourself on the proteins and fats before wiping your mouth and looking around.

From your vantage point in the back of the room, you can see that most of the people nearby are sitting with friends. There are a couple of loners, but the one that stands out to you the most is a girl that's looking down at her food with an expression of disgust. Before you can even do anything, she quickly gets up and walks toward the bathroom, leaving the food on her table untouched.

Uh. Is this the kind of situation that you're supposed to be watching out for? What if she's anorexic or bulimic or something? You suppose that this is the first challenge of your career.

You look longingly at the custom-made omelets before sighing and going into the bathroom after the girl. It wouldn't do to have something happen while you were too busy stuffing your face.

You're prepared with an excuse when you step inside, something about fixing your hair, but there doesn't seem to be anyone else in the bathroom. Huh, maybe you should check the stalls, although you feel like that would be a little too creeper-ish. Maybe she just needed to use the toilet or something.

You're about to leave when you hear the sound of someone retching in one of the stalls, the pattering of fluid entering the toilet making you a little nauseous just from hearing it.

"You alright in there?" you ask.

"Y-yeah," the girl says weakly. "J-just leave, please."

"Come on, what's wrong?" you ask. "I'm not gonna leave until I can make sure you're okay."

You're starting to feel a little nosey, but you also wouldn't feel too good leaving a sick girl alone in the bathroom.

"Y-you can't stay," she pleads. "P-please just go."

"There are a lot of resources available on campus if you need help, okay?" you say, trying a different tact and tone.

You begin to worry when it takes her more than a few seconds to respond.

"Hey, w-wait, I don't have bulimia or anything like that!" she says finally says.

"Er, then why were you throwing up?" you ask, flushing a little.

There's a sigh and the sound of toilet paper being unrolled. A few seconds later, the toilet flushes and the door to the stall opens.

Now that you're able to see her face-to-face, you notice that she has very short white-blonde hair and dark hazel eyes, and she's about as tall as you. Her face is really pale, much paler than a healthy person's skin should be. And by that you mean that her skin is very nearly translucent, to the point where her veins are almost visible.

"I-I've just been having some issues with eating, recently," she says hesitantly. "Everything tastes and smells wrong, you know, like my senses are inverted. Things are either too bland, or bitter, or sour. Everything tastes bad."

She shakes her head, intent on moving past you. "Sorry for dumping my problems on you. Thanks for the concern, but I'll be fine. I'll just force myself to eat until this passes, maybe get some nutrient powder."

Red meat just means meat that looks red uncooked I think? So fowl isn't red meat since it's gray/white, etc.
Also technically 'bloody' steaks aren't actually bloody either, just full of myoglobin, almost all blood is removed during slaughtering. So vampires would have no use for an extra-rare steak even if animal blood could sustain them sadly.
>>
Well, from what we were told earlier, vampires still need to eat normal food as well since, they're just addicted to human blood rather than truly feeding from it. So unless that info was wrong or food tastes awful while craving, she might be something different. Hopefully something that doesn't eat people or whatnot.
>>
>>39805614
I don't think the craving idea is impossible, but it's still a good point. Hopefully that 97 will help us reason things out.
>>
Instead of stopping her in the bathroom, you instead just follow her outside, walking side by side with her.

"Hey, can I sit with you?" you ask her. "I'm not with anyone else at the moment, and to be honest I'm still pretty worried about you."

She looks uncomfortable. "I'd rather you not," she says. "I'll be fine, seriously."

"Come on, it's no fun to eat alone," you say. "Surely I'm not that ugly?"

"N-no! It's not you," she says quickly, "It's me."

Your mouth opens a little. "Did you just say tha—"

"But if you insist," she nearly yells, her face turning red, "I guess it's fine."

"Cool," you say. "I'm gonna go grab some food real quick, don't go anywhere."

She sighs, resigned, and nods glumly, resting her chin on her forearms as she stares at her plate of eggs.

You grab your food quickly and head back to the table, sliding into the seat next to her. She stiffens almost imperceptibly as you get close to her, shifting so little that you're not even sure how you noticed. Maybe it's the way her nose twitched, or how her fingers curled slightly.

"So when did your problem start anyways?" you ask her.

She watches you eat, a bit of jealousy in her eyes. "It actually started yesterday. I think I ate a protein bar that went bad or something, it tasted a little weird."

"And then your taste buds went haywire?"

"A few hours later, yeah," she says. "Nearly threw up when I went to go eat dinner."

You put your fork down and look at her. "This might sound silly, but have you considered going to see a doctor?"

She looks down at the table and mumbles something.

(1/2)
>>
You lean closer to her. "Uh, I didn't catch that."

She seems to shrink even further from you. "I can't," she whispers. "They'll know there's something wrong with me."

"That's the point of having doctors, isn't it?" you ask. "I mean, it definitely seems like there's something wrong with you right now."

"I..." She seems to war internally with herself, taking a good thirty seconds to make a decision. "Don't tell anyone what I'm about to tell you, alright?"

You feel your heart beat a little faster in excitement, but you don't let it show on your face. "I'm really good at keeping secrets," you tell her, crossing your fingers for evidence. You nearly say something like "cross my heart and hope to die", but with your new fae-ness you're not sure what would happen if you did end up breaking your promise.

She leans in closer to you, as if to share some deep, dark secret.

"You smell good," she murmurs, licking her lips.

You freeze, clamping down on your instinct to flee in order to avoid startling her.

She leans in even closer, her nose nearly pressed into your hair. You can feel her cool breath brushing against your cheek as she inhales your scent.

"Especially here," she say softly.

"Uh, my head?" you ask tentatively. You're not sure you like where this is going.

"Yeah," she nods slowly, as if entranced. She moans a little as she sucks in another breath. You can see a strand of saliva out of the corner of your eye.

"I think... I think I want your brains..."

No you idiot. The checks are the tastiest part of humans.

>checks
Wot?
Besides, there are plenty of nice, meaty body-parts...though I dunno how Rachel's figure is like.
None are for consumption though.
>>
>>39806555
Well Lesser Satan, we could cut off some parts to feed her.
>>
>>39806880
No.
>>
>>39806880
Beyond that being a generally bad idea, I doubt anything but our brain would suffice.
>>
>>39806922
What about other people's brains!

....Unless we're possessive of our new zombie friend and she can only have our brains?
>>
>>39806952
no, we report this to Susan and get our zombie friend some help, I'm sure they could whip up some synthetic brains for her
>>
>>39806952
Anon pls, no murdering people to feed our friend.
Maybe we should contact Summer and see if she knows any solutions.
>>
>>39806990
I'd rather contact summer than the other guys, but we'd probably need to wait a while before they release her?

Waiting might not be the best idea.
>>
>>39807009
yeah, and she seems pretty normal and not full murderhobo right now so we should ask Susan for help with her
>>
>>39807019
While it's true she might not be full murderhobo, there's no guarantee they wouldn't just kill her depending on how dangerous she can be. Summer has less risk in that way and we could contact our employer afterwards if she can't help, but yeah it'd take longer before we can do it.
>>
>>39807120
well so far they've given no inclination that they just kill supernatural people instead of monitoring and helping them
>>
>>39807140
Have they given any indication they even do that?

I don't think anyone's told us what they actually do with the supernatural besides investigate them.
>>
>>39807178
we should probably ask Susan
>>
>"I think... I think I want your brains..."
Aww, Nibbles says the sweetest things.

>>39807140
>>39807178
So far the only interaction between the Bureau and the supernatural that we truly know about is them hiring us to abduct Summer via force. Pretty much everything else is a matter of trusting Susan. But on the other hand, she has been really nice. Meanwhile Summer was willing to kill in order to spread her thing, so we should definitely be cautious of her fae butt.

Regardless, relying on either means potentially avoiding the cadaver defiling side-quest, and who wants that?
>>
>>39808553
>Meanwhile Summer was willing to kill in order to spread her thing, so we should definitely be cautious of her fae butt.
I dunno anon, she didn't even kill us and it would have been 100% self-defense.
>>
>>39808808
The attempt at conversion had nothing to do with self-defense, and everything to do with convenience (if Rachel died and went 'missing', who would look for her there?). I imagine there were other factors as well, but it was mostly the convenience.
>>
>>39809885
I'm not sure I get what you're trying to say anon. We attacked entirely unprovoked, so even if she killed us she'd have been entirely justified and we have no reason to be more cautions about her or characterize her as a big bad. So far Rachel has acted more morally questionable and like a villain in their interactions.
>>
>>39810976
I'm not entirely sure where the distrust for Summer and the trust for Susan is coming from in the first place, either.

Summer's a Fae - trusting them is probably bad, yeah. But she's also been pretty nice to us, all things considered. We persistently tried to kill her, stabbed her in the eyeball, and in return she praised us for being cautious and played along. We could do worse than to reach out to her, as long as we don't go full retard about it. Can we really fault her for doing the converty thing that might have killed us when we actively tried to disembowel her no less than twice?

>But she attacked the senator!
Didn't she offer an explanation for that too? And she's aware of the government, mentioned there was more going on with the senator being a jerk and the original court.

Susan on the other hand is part of the government. She's been really nice to us, but also more or less just sent us off with a knife to literally shank a whore, drag her back for questioning, and we still have no idea what the government is doing with supernaturals besides the fact that SCIENCE is happening.

I am just so baffled about why people keep going "lets trust susan!" and hissing over our fae-mom.
>>
>>39811290
Probably just innate distrust of the Fae overriding sensibilities. I mean at the time you could also go 'well we're kinda committed here and letting up would get us killed' but now there's not that excuse.

Also I doubt this'll run again within the next 24 hours but might be smart to sage it anyway just in case so a new thread can be made.
>>
>>39811290
>We persistently tried to kill her, stabbed her in the eyeball
I wouldn't be surprised if that's how they say hello, all things considered. Though I am, personally, hurt that fae-mom didn't even give us a good luck kiss after everything happened.
>>
>>39811290
You also remember the bit where Summer was all giggling as she said she was 'only' going to give us an equal level of bloody shredding?
>>
>>39811596
Fair's fair anon.
>>
>>39811681
Yeah but she's a regenerating super monster and we were a squishy human at the time
>>
>>39811706
And now we're not!
I mean, we did use cold steel.
>>
>>39811828
My point remains that she is at least a bit sadistic and insane
>>
>>39811895
You make it sound as if that isn't expected amongst the fae
>>
>>39811942
Well yes, hence why we shouldn't really trust her
>>
>>39811976
I'd rather trust her than Susan still.
>>
>>39810976
First, before the attack, Rachel told Summer to slow down, that she was going too fast, and Summer kept going. All of Rachel's other motivations aside, that by itself is sufficient provocation to physically attack her.
Second, the conversion attempt was after Rachel collapsed on top of her, utterly spent. Thus, the conversion was not part of self defense.
Third, from what Summer said during and after the attack, it is not unreasonable to assume that she had wanted to try the conversion even before Rachel had attacked her.

My wariness of Summer has nothing to do with general notions about fae natures or trustworthiness, and everything to do with her words and actions.
>>
It occurs to me that we took the job of a paranormal investigator, but we're actually kind of ignorant of... everything. We're not even investigating, we're acting as glorified trip alarms.

While our immediate concern is our new pet zombie, we really need to buckle down and start learning more about paranormals from a reliable source.

While I'm leaning towards fae-mom in that regard, she'd definitely know all sorts of things, I think asking too much might result in owing favors we're not quite ready to handle.

We could ask Susan and just seem really enthusiastic about our job, but they already confirmed that they don't know much about anything going on.

Anons, I propose we approach this like proper respectable fairies - Work both sides for information and further our own goals with the profit.

We call Susan, find out what happened with Summer, then maybe slip a question in about zombies.

If Summer got released, we casually call her up and ask her questions about fae and pet zombies[/spoiler[ as well.

It'll make fae-mom proud to see us already learning to scheme.
>>
>>39812096
While I like the path your going with, there's two things that are concerning me.
One, do we even know if fae-mum belonged to a faction or was she independent? If she was the former that'd be better for the possibility of working both sides.
B: Do we have any further notion outside of the brain thing that Blondie's a zombie? It could be something in our head attracting her hunger, could be something like a psionic vampire though that's probably ridiculous since she wouldn't be starving if that's the case.
Mindflayer doesn't make sense either since we'd probably be ded.
>>
>>39812242
Really just taking the brain thing at face value + her paleness. But we can't REALLY assess that until next session.

As for Summer, she didn't really clarify either way but it sounded like she was running solo but had powerful connections if she decided she needs them. Or maybe she's just washed out old nobility. Or maybe she was bluffing about all of it. Who knows!
>>
>>39812242

>Do we know if it's a zombie?
We don't, really. I guess we could take a while to gather more information, but that might be dangerous too. I trend towards thinking that it's a good idea to get some information about that soon, in a subtle manner, and work from there... But you make a fair point, we really have no idea.

>Is fae-mom part of a faction?
I recall her mentioning the original court, and she was really resistant to the cold steel. While the latter doesn't imply a faction, I think its safe to say she's at least some manner of big deal? And the Original Court reference, as well as her taking action against a senator for his threats to "their kind" seems to strongly imply that she is either part of a faction - maybe in a powerful position within one - or very well connected.

So basically what this anon said >>39812332
>>
>>39811987
What do you have against Susan? I mean yeah she could just be acting nice but based on actions she's only tried to help us while Summer well >>39812007 puts it pretty well
>>
>>39812575
I have nothing against Susan personally, I have little faith or trust in the organization we just joined after that clusterfuck of a first mission though. Until the organization convinces me they're at all worth trusting, I'm not about to trust a prominent employee either.

As for Summer, re-reading last thread the first point is pretty exaggerated to me. First off, anons had already voted to stab BEFORE she overstepped in any way, so it's not like we're any more innocent. Second, the extent of her 'keeping going' was crawling seductively towards us after we'd already let her start some REAL heavy petting without resistance just before, and she didn't even touch us again before we got the knife out. Was that still ill-advised and too aggressive? Yeah, for sure. But between the situation and her fae nature I'm hard pressed holding just that against her. If she'd physically forced us or clearly tried to manipulate us I'd more readily agree.

As for the rest, given we'd already attacked, I genuinely don't hold them against her, no. Third is just an assumption anyway. But there's also the fact that while I wouldn't trust her BEFORE she changed us, now that it's done I'm ready to do so. After all she can't turn us more than she has, and she's already both shown not to want to kill us and complied with all our requests regarding her capture.

Well, if you want to get meta instead of going off just the narrative, then okay, sure. Between the massage and the heavy petting, there was a roll. Or rather, there was a roll for all the options except "Let her do what she wants to you". What do you think that was for? It seems clear to me that it was a roll to resist Summer's mind-whammy seduction power thing. It (along with the poor rolls) made it so that Rachel was unable to put up much resistance. So yeah, Summer was overstepping then as well, just via supernatural means.

>After all she can't turn us more than she has, and she's already both shown not to want to kill us and complied with all our requests regarding her capture.
>She smiles. "You know, a small favor or something. I'll come help you out if you need help or if you're in trouble, and I'll even try to avoid hurting you.
She'll even try to avoid hurting Rachel, when Rachels calls in that favor. How nice of her. Yeah, I'm going to continue not making any assumptions regarding our safety around her. That said, she said she'd leave us and ours alone until we contact her, so at least there's that.
>>
>>39813837
>What do you think that was for?
To not lose our composure to the pleasurable sensations and our own nervousness/spaghetti?
I dunno why it has to be her supernatural powers. Especially since she very explicitly used them later and it was really obvious.
>>
>>39813955
It became really obvious later because Summer didn't lead into it as much, and it clashed more with what we expected. Early on, it all went in an fitting direction, so neither of those flags were raised. Despite that, it was a bit over the top and Rachel was already wary, so she did become suspicious, but she rationalized it as just her anxiety at the time because she figured that Summer shouldn't have been able to manipulate her mind. Summer was supposed to be a low-level fae, after all.
>>
Butchers sell brains. This is a potentially easy case to solve.
>>
>>39816230
Also maybe she doesn't need human brains. Only reason why she's going for that is because it's the only source around presently.
>>
For all we know maybe she's just a very awkward practical joker.
And I still think we should sage.
