You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the temporary wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

It is the morning after the Battle of Morsland, and you decided it was time to have a serious talk with Galadriel now that a Crusade is imminent. The result was Galadriel asking you to become her permanent Champion, and though you still have your reservations, you decided to accept. Besides, by now you're already a target, it may actually be safer to stay close to Galadriel and the Watchtower. After you finished talking with Galadriel (and she gave you a new power), you realized you friends were starting to wake and you had no food in the house, so you brought everyone with you to eat with your family.

This should be interesting.

The seven of you sit at the table with your father, crowded together from lack of space. Meanwhile, your mother is hard at work in the kitchen, making breakfast from what you bought at the market.

The scene is almost comically bizarre. Your father sits next to you, his smith's apron laid on the back of his chair. On your other side is Roland, wearing clothes that would seem more appropriate in a noble's court than in a blacksmith's house. Beside him is Joan, still wearing her robe and hat, her familiar Berry perched on her shoulder. Then there's Justine, wearing normal clothes but with an expression so cold and distant it makes you wonder if she wants to be here or not. After her is Nerillian, the only elf at the table, with his bow and a quiver of arrows leaning against the wall behind him. Beside him is Ganelon, the most out of place of them all, wearing heavy armor decorated with religious iconography, face hidden by the helm he's still wearing inside the house. And finally there's Erika, sitting next to the seat where your mother will sit, wearing the same plate armor she wore when you first met, her greatsword set next to Nerillian's bow.

All this would look perfectly normal at the tower, but not in your parents' home. The kitchen is absolutely silent save for the sounds of your mother hard at work. Your father looks at the collection of uninvited guests sheepishly, while your friends sit there quietly, seeming oddly at home as though they don't know how out of place most of them appear.

Damn, this is really awkward.

This is just too awkward, looks like you'll have to be the one to break the ice.

"So, how have things been since I left? Besides the attack yesterday, I mean."

"Hm? Oh, they've been just fine." Your father says, snapping his attention from the motley crew you've brought with you. "Actually, your sister Sarah just passed her Master's examination a few days ago."

"Did she?" You ask, surprised at how quickly your sister's reached master status. It wasn't too long ago she'd become a Journeyman, you'd have never guessed she'd advance this quickly.

"She sure did, passed with flying colors from what I hear. I couldn't be there because I'm her father, but I've heard from the others in the guild that she did an amazing job. I'm proud of her."

"She's going to be moving out soon now that your father's finished teaching her. Your father's been sad about it all week."

"Bah, what father wouldn't be sad when all his kids have moved out? Place just won't feel the same after she's left."

"You said the same thing when Siegfried moved out." Your mother says with a giggle. "Speaking of which, how have you been Siegfried? We haven't heard from you in over a month, how have you been?"

"It's been...interesting. I've met a lot of new people at the tower, as you can see." You gesture to the six guests you've brought with you. "Besides that, I've also learned how to cast magic, and the tower's blacksmith actually taught me how to enchant."

"Enchant?" Your dad asks, interest piqued.

"Yeah, though honestly I've only learned one so far. Helped me enchant the shield you gave me, look."

You remove the glove on your left hand and pass it to your father, instructing him on how to use it. Your father raises an eyebrow at the glove, but does as you say, causing the shield he gave you to suddenly appear in his hand, catching him off guard.

"Interesting." He says, looking over the shield carefully. "And who did you say did this?"

"The smith's name his Festus, I think you two would get along if you ever met. He didn't enchant the shield though, he just taught me how to do it myself."

"I see." He says, nodding as he passes the shield back to you. You quickly change it back into glove form and put it back onto your left hand.

"And what about your friends here? You haven't introduced us yet." Your mother reminds you from the kitchen.

"Oh, right, my bad. Well, this is Roland, that's Joan, Justine, Nerillian, Ganelon, and Erika. They're my friends, the captain of the watchtower assigned them to be my honor guard."

"Honor guard? That seems a little much for someone who's just watching their sword for them, don't you think?"

You hesitate. They don't know everything that's happened since you left Morsland, and you're not sure whether you should tell them or not. But then again, now that you're the official Champion and a new Crusade is on the horizon, there's not much point in hiding the truth from them.

"Well, about that..." You start, not really sure how to go about telling them how you were kidnapped and met face to face with a demon lord.
>>
>>39840375
Your father picks up on your concern and raises an eyebrow. "What's wrong son? You sound like a guilty pickpocket."

You sigh. "I won't lie dad, a lot has happened since I left Morsland. Yesterday you saw the worst of it, but the attack isn't the only fighting I've seen since I left."

This earns you concerned glances from your mother in the kitchen and your father right beside you. "What's happened?" they both ask.

You explain to them what's happened since you came to the watchtower. The kidnapping, the farm, the behemoth, all of it. You try watering it down so it won't worry them too much, but it's hard to water down an encounter with a demon lord. Your friends add to what you say from time to time, either to help reassure them or to help recount some of the finer details. Your parents listen intently, very clearly concerned especially when you get to the part about Alastor. Finally, you conclude with what you discussed with Galadriel just this morning, that you are to become the official champion. This news catches even your friends by surprise.

"And that's everything that's happened." You conclude, just as your mother finishes breakfast and starts passing out plates. "But you don't have to worry, I'm just fine and now I have these people to help me stay safe."
>>
>>39840395
Your parents are silent for a while, as are your friends, who aren't sure what else to say, or if they should right now. Finally, your father picks up his silverware and starts cutting into his breakfast.

"I'm glad you've told us this son. I won't lie and say I'm not worried for you, but I'm glad you're safe." He then starts eating, still looking a little concerned but trying to hide it as best he can. When he looks up and see no one is eating or saying anything, he swallows his food and gestures with his fork.

"What's everyone so serious about this early in the morning? My wife's just cooked us a wonderful breakfast, no need to sour it with worry this early in the morning."

The others look at each other hesitantly, but pick up their silverware and start eating as well. You mother shares a glance with your father and sits beside him, getting started on her food as well. Before long your father's started another conversation, asking about Festus at the tower and what sort of things he makes. Soon that slides to another topic, and everyone starts to relax, enjoying your mother's cooking and making small talk with each other.

Long post or Sparks needing to go out for bit?

At some point during the table conversations, the topic turns back to you and Galadriel, specifically about your encounter with Alastor's behemoth.

"Now let me make sure I'm hearing this right, you're saying my son, the boy who used to cry when he hit his fingers by mistake while I was teaching him to smith, somehow fought off a giant three-headed demon and saved a city's worth of people? Are you sure you're not mixing him up with someone else?" Your father jokes.

"It's what Berry said at least. I still don't buy it." Erika says, already on her second plate.

"Berry?"

"Yes?" Berry says, perking up at the mention of his name.

"It's her familiar." Justine explains. "We sent messages to Siegfried through him."

"I see...Well, uh, thank you Berry."

"Do you have any berries?"

"Berries? I guess I could go check." Your father says with a shrug, standing up and moving to the kitchen to look for a jar for the hungry raven.

"What I don't understand is how would you even hit the thing if it's as big as you say?" Roland comments. "Did you suddenly learn how to fly or something?"

"No, that was today actually." You tell him, drinking your glass of milk nonchalantly.

"Wait, what?"

"Yeah, remember how I said I talked to Galadriel this morning? While I was there she taught me how to fly. And yes, it's exactly as fun as you'd think."

"Oh what a load of sh-er, don't lie to us Siegfried." Erika says, stopping herself before she swears in front of your parents.

"I believe him." Ganelon pitches in, helmet revealing only his mouth even as he eats. "There are stories of old champions that could fly, if Siegfried says he can then I believe him wholeheartedly."
>>
>>39841411
"Well then why doesn't he pull out his wings and prove it right now then?"

"That would be a rather frivolous use of Lady Galadriel's power."

"See? Ganelon believes me. Besides, I already used them for practice today, I can't fly again until tomorrow."

"Uh huh, sure. That's awful convenient for you."

"Just shut it and eat your meal before it gets cold."

-------
Breakfast becomes a much more light-hearted activity after that. Once everyone has eaten their fill, your friends volunteer to clean the dishes for your mother, as a way of thanking her for the meal. Your mother is more than happy to accept, and you're about to help them as well when your father taps you on the shoulder.

"Son, could I talk to you for a second?"

"Of course." You answer with a nod, before following him into the workshop. Once you're both inside, he shuts the door behind him and takes a deep breath before speaking.

"Son, is everything you told us about back there true? The demons, the farm, all of it?"

You nod. "It is."

"I see. Well, son, I'm going to be honest. I'm worried about you. Your mother and I were worried when you first told us about this business with the sword and the tower, but now I can't say I'm too thrilled to see you get caught up in all this. All last night while we were in the castle we were worried about you, wondering what was happening outside. We didn't know what was happening or whether you were okay or not, and now that you're involved you'll probably end up fighting in a lot more battles like this one."

You say nothing. Somehow you knew this wouldn't end at the dinner table, you knew your parents too well to think they'd just brush off everything you told them and not worry.
>>
>>39841436
"Son, if I had it my way, I'd send that sword right back to the watchtower and tell them to find someone else. I'm scared of what will happen to you once the towers call for a Crusade. But if this is something you feel you need to do, I'll support you all the way. Is this something you're sure you want to do?"

>"I'm sure."

"I honestly don't want any part of it. But I have to, so there's no helping it."

"Then that's your decision?"

You nod. "Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'll come back safely, I promise."

Your father stands there quietly, thinking over what to say. At least he seems to have relaxed a bit now that you've said that.

"Son, do you know why I named you Siegfried?" He finally asks.

"Because...It's an old name and sounds good?" You guess, confused as to where this is going.

"No, because it actually comes from an old Iserian word that means 'always honest'. I've always believed you, so if you're promising that you'll come back safe and sound, then I'll believe you and wait for you to come home."

You smile. "Thanks dad."

"Don't mention it son. Now, let's get back to the kitchen, your friends should be finished cleaning up by now."

------
After your talk with your father, you and the group bid farewell to your mother and father, carrying whatever was left over from the market back to your house. A lot was left over, so you now have ingredients to cook with if you choose to later today. Now that that's settled and everyone's fed, you have to figure out what to do now, and who to bring with you. You know Captain Laurentius would want you to stay with at least one member of the honor guard, but you could always bring the whole gang as well if you wanted, no one seems to be doing anything currently.

Well, you're back in town now, so of course you need to go see your pal Reinhardt again while you're here. So, after you put away all the stuff from the market you head for the door.

"Hey, Erika, I'm heading to Reinhardt's place, are you busy?"

Erika, who was busy doing pushups, stops to look up at you.

"Not particularly. Need me to go along?"

"Well Laurentius probably wouldn't want me walking around alone, so if you can I'd appreciate it."

Erika gets up and dusts herself off. "Sure, where does Reinhardt live anyways?"

"Not too far from here, hopefully he's not on patrol right now."

-----
You knock on your old friend's front door three times and wait for him to answer. When you get no response, you try knocking a second time. You're just about to assume he's out on patrol when the door finally opens and you see Reinhardt, dressed in civilian clothes, hair all messed up like he just rolled out of bed.

"Are you just now waking up? Did you get the graveyard shift again, after all that happened yesterday?"

"Sieg, those Aureus damn sticks are rigged I tell you. No other way I could keep drawing the short one."

"I'll take that as a yes then. Do you still have a shift later today then?"

"Not this time, thankfully. Why?"

"Well in that case, want to go get drinks at the tavern later tonight? It's been a long time, and after yesterday I could use a drink."

"Heh, yeah I know what you mean. I thought dealing with that asshole in the black armor was bad enough last time, never thought he'd come back with friends."

"Well he's gonna have a hard time come back again now that he's missing both legs."

"Yeah, guess he doesn't have a leg to stand on now."

You laugh at your friend's bad joke. Behind you, you hear Erika chuckle as well.

"That was awful and you know it."

"Whatever, you still laughed. Anyways, count me in for drinks tonight, anything else you wanted from me while I'm still awake?"

You shake your head. "Nah, that's all. Go get some sleep, we'll meet at the same tavern as usual."

"Right, if I'm not there, I'm probably still sleeping so just come here and knock a few times if I'm late, I'll wake up sooner or later."

"Will do, see you then."

With that, Reinhardt closes the door and presumably trudges back to bed. You're now planning to go to the tavern tonight with Reinhardt, you could also bring the whole gang along too if you want.

"Anywhere else we need to stop by?" Erika asks.

Come to think of it, you should probably go visit your sister as well. She wasn't at your parents house, so she'll probably be at Fredrick's house. Actually, now that she's earned her master rank, she may have already moved back in with Fredrick now that her training's done and she doesn't have to stay at your parents house now.

"Yeah, I want to go visit my sister and tell her congratulations on her Master rank. It's a bit of a walk though, follow me."

------------
Fredrick's house sits close to the city guard post, where you can see people wearing the White Watchtower's heraldry training some of the guards. Seems the tower's already preparing them in case of another demon attack. One of the crusaders recognizes you and waves, you wave back despite not recognizing the man in question, and knock on Fredrick's door.

Sure enough, your sister Sarah answers the door. For the first time in a long time, she's not wearing a smith's apron covered in soot.

"Siegfried? What are you doing here?"

"I heard the news from mom and dad, that you got your Master rank while I was gone. Just thought I'd stop by and say congratulations."

"Oh. Well, I appreciate that Siegfried, it means a lot."

"Who's at the door?" You hear Fredrick ask from further in the house.

"It's Siegfried, come to visit" She calls back.

"Siegfried? Hold on, I'll be out in a second."

"Fredrick's still here?" You ask, surprised. "I thought he had guard duty around this time."

"He does, but he can't do that right now because-"

"Ah, there he is!" You hear Fredrick say, much closer this time. Soon he comes into view, and you're surprised by what you see. Bandages are wrapped around his left arm, and in his right hand he's using a cane to help him walk. A nasty looking scar crosses his left cheek as well, though thankfully it doesn't look so bad it won't heal.

"Siegfried, it's good to see you. That was a rough battle last night, my father says we might not have made it if you hadn't warned us in advance."

>"Fredrick? The Void happened to you, you look awful!"
>"Are you alright? Did the healers look after you at all?"
>"Looks like it was especially rough for you. Here, hold still, I'll see what I can do." Cast Heal

All of the above.

Also offer the idea that they learn some basic magic from Daniel later since it looks like he'll be staying in town for some time.

"Fredrick? The Void happened to you, you look awful!"

"Eh, one of those big demons with the fiery heads got a lucky swing. I'm fine though, there were others much worse off than me."

"Even so, looks like you got hit pretty hard. Here, hold still, I'll see what I can do."

You extend a hand out towards Fredrick and cast Heal. You concentrate on his bandaged arm, but you can't feel the spell take effect. At first you wonder if you're just not casting the spell the right way, but then you remember Daniel said when he first taught you the spell that older wounds are harder to heal, sometimes even impossible if the damage is significant enough. Seems you won't be able to fix his arm, so instead you switch focus to the scar on his cheek. This time you feel the spell take effect, and see the scar start to slowly fade until it disappears entirely. That was tiring, not terribly so, but more than your spells usually are.

Fredrick leans against a wall and feels his cheek with his good hand. "Well what do you know, seems you've learned some new tricks while you were away at the tower."

"You could say that. Tried to do something about your arm too, but I guess it's too old for me to patch up."

"Ah don't worry about it, I'll heal over time. Might have to rest a while before I do, but at least I'm still kicking."

"And thank Aureus for that." Sarah interjects.

"How did you go so long without getting your wounds healed by the healers though?" You ask. "Didn't they go around and check to see who needed healing?"
>>
>>39844597
Fredrick nods. "They did, but there were more wounded then there were healers. When they finally got around to me, they had the same problem you just had: said the wound was already too old and I'd just have to heal the old fashioned way. So they patched me up, gave me a cane so I could walk, and sent me home."

"Which is why he's here right now, Siegfried, because his father told him to take a break while he heals." Sarah adds.

"What about you Siegfried? Doesn't look like you got banged up too bad. What's your secret?"

"Magic and healing potions. Also the magic sword I've been watching since last time Andras showed up in Morsland." You respond with a shrug.

"Guess I should have invested in some potions myself then. Anyways, thanks for stopping by Siegfried, make sure you speak to my father some time before you leave, he said he wanted to speak with you when you had the chance."

"Why? Something he needs?"

"No idea, just asked me to pass the message if you stopped by."

Weekdays are usually fine, it's just that these past few weekdays I've been way busier than usual. Should calm down in the near future though.

As for Saturdays and Sundays, I try to run on Fridays and either Saturday or Sunday at least. This Saturday is a no-go, so Sunday will probably be when I run again.
>>39844631
Yeah, Fredrick's dad is Captain Gregory.
>>
>>39844602
before we leave can we show off that we learned how to enchant
>>
>>39844684
You could, but you really only know one enchantment, and your sister has no idea how to use magic, which you need to have a grasp on before you try enchanting.
>>
>>39844602
Right show her about enchanting.
And borrow her the book for a day or two to copy it down.
Ask her to learn the basics of magic from Daniel while he's in town and she'll be able to do it.

She's a genius so let's let her make more swords like galardriel's.
>>
>>39844602
Talk her up on enchanting. Tell her that she can learn basic magic from Daniel and you can borrow her the book to copy it down.
>>
>>39844703
i mean more of "i know something you dont know" brotherly teasing
>>
>>39844721
What? No let's not. That's a long involved process you're talking about, and we're a busy champion right now. If you really want to pass on the knowledge, make an arrangement to come back later and start teaching her.
>>
>>39844778
I agree

>>39844769
We can do this though.
>>
>>39844703
We can ask Daniel to tutor her in basic magic and borrow her the book so she can copy it down.
>>39844778
She can learn on her own and Daniel can take care of the magic tutoring.
>>
>>39844789
We aren't here for long and we can't monopolize Daniels time like that.
>>
"Alright then, guess I should go see him now then. It was nice seeing you, take care of sis for me alright?"

"Oh don't worry, I'll make sure she's safe, come demons or anything else."

You say goodbye to the two of them and make your way to Captain Gregory's office. Not a very long walk considering it's practically next door. The guard at the front desk lets you and Erika through, and you knock on Captain Gregory's door. A moment later he answers the door, just as big and intimidating as any other time you've seen him.

"Hm? Oh, Siegfried, you're here already. I'm guessing Fredrick sent you?"

"Yes sir, he said you wanted to see me?"

"Yes, I actually wanted to ask you for help on something while you're in town. Something that bastard Henry's been bothering me about for weeks"

Henry? If you remember correctly, that's the name of that noble the captain threw down the stairs yesterday.

"What is it you need sir?"

"Well, seems there's a thief that's been causing trouble around town, and recently he's started targeting the Lord-Governor and his brother Henry's property. Normally that's something I'd relegate to the other guards, but you've had experience dealing with him, so I decided to ask you instead."

"Experience? Sir, I've been gone over a month."

"And you had a run in with him not long before you left. Remember that pickpocket you ran into at the festival?"
>>
Alright, I'm going to have to go ahead and call it a night before I fall asleep and start drooling on my keyboard. Next thread should be on Sunday, but watch the twitter just in case. I'll stick around a little longer and answer question if you've got them.

Thanks for playing, hope you guys had fun even though not a lot happened.
>>

Thanks for running Sparks.
>>
>>39844857
Thanks for the run boss. One more SoL thread/pickpocket thread before we get back at it?
>>
>>39844857
thanks for running
quick meta question tho is will there ever be a spell that will allow sig to show his memories to others.
>>
>>39844857
Thanks for the run.

Also since Siegfried is using mainly transmutation spells can we get an option of wind and earth based offensive spells next time.

The wind spells should be useful for avian combat and the earth spells for making fortifications along the way or shooting rock hard bullets...

>>39844823
Guess we will teach her later on.
>>
>>39844887
"Ay yo Roland, Erika. Come into Galadriel's plane real quick. Were going to show you the behemoth memory."
>>
>>39844923
the look on every ones face tho would be priceless when Sig has to tell them to grab his sword.
>>
>>39844879
Depends on how long the stuff with the pickpocket will take. I'd actually planned some more SoL stuff to help ease out of the sudden PLOT of the farm and the battle of Morsland, but I can probably spread that out rather than going 2-4 threads of just SoL.
>>39844887
Never really thought about that. I'll add that in to the spell list next time you guys level up.
>>39844900
I'll add those two in as well. I should add that the elemental projectile stuff is all one spell, so if you can throw fireballs you can also throw icicle, wind blades, rocks, lightning bolts, etc.
>>
>>39844923
We should ask Galardriel if we can take along our squad on the meditation training.
Then ask them if they want to see something really scary and close our eyes listening to the mayhem.
>>
>>39844972
I actually don't mind the SoL threads, was just curious. Take the time you need to get out what you want. No rush.
>>
>>39844972
>Never really thought about that. I'll add that in
to the spell list next time you guys level up.

it could be a good tactical power later in the game like you need to show every one the plan or see something you missed like a an assassins face in a crowd.
>>
>>39844972
Cool so we aren't getting sidetracked by learning to many spells.

Can we ask Joan in the mean time to teach us more spells. You can limit it to one or two spells between levels (not the ones learned upon level up) so we actually do get to improve our magic during a level up.

That pickpocket is in for a nasty surprise isn't he?
