You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

"Are you absolutely sure?" You ask Uncle over the phone as you look at your map. "If he went down, he would have had to put down near Rutherford?"

"It's the most direct route from B7R to Oured." Uncle explains. "From what you told me, even with the external pods, he doesn't have enough fuel to take a more complicated route. Going over Rutherford, he'll be flying over Oured Bay for the final half of his route, where chances of being spotted by radar or by ground observer are minimal."

"What makes you think that he didn't go down over the Bay?" You ask.

"Because I've been doing my homework." Uncle chortles. "I dug through old news reports, looking for references to odd, unidentified aircraft. I found a long, unbroken chain leading from the Great Lakes all the way down to Rutherford, and then nothing. I've narrowed down the search area, but I need, as you say, 'boots on the ground' to confirm."

"And by 'boots on the ground', you mean me." You grumble.

"Ah, that's the niece raised!" Uncle chuckles warmly.

"I... I can't go. I have commitments here." You shake your head, even though you know your Uncle can't see you do so."

"Well, that is your choice. Go now or wait. What happens next is up to you." Uncle explains. "And unfortunately, our time is up. Until next time, Karla!"

The phone clicks as your Uncle hangs up, leaving you staring at the phone for a few brief, silent seconds.

See if we can ask for some vacation.
Also see if we can get some teammates or Jager tag along.

At best we'll get one person. I mean, we kinda are in an active combat zone, and we kinda are seeing action every few days. We'll get 72 hours and one tag-along, at best.

Speaking of me missing last thread, before we get into plot heavy stuff, I have a surprise for the people who encouraged me to make an X-COM map.

It's not setup for proper terrain types yet, and I'm wondering if I can get someone who knows a bit more about the geography of some of the continents better to help out. Especially since I haven't played 6 or X.
>>
>>39840714
Looking good
The northern half of Anea seems to be forest, there's two deserts at that major bay on the left and towards the narrow part of the continent, and it's otherwise kinda like the northeast

You had to leave now. You had to know. The thought of an entire life of uncertainty coming to an end was just too tempting. You immediately rush over to Samantha's office, where your superior was busy filing more paperwork. She had been busy trying to get in ops for Atlas' battle with Dahl and OB over the Vault, but was continually being rebuffed, much to her frustration.

"Oh, Karla. What do you need?" Samantha asks, not even looking up from her work.

"Samantha, I need a really big favor." You shift uncomfortably. "I'm requesting an immediate temporary leave of absence."

THAT gets Samantha's attention, and she slowly looks up, her gaze suspicious.

"I suppose you have a good reason for this." She says quietly.

You silently debate whether you should tell her about your missing father. She might ask questions, and maybe find out about the two Trinity missiles he stole. While you don't doubt she was sympathetic to your cause, she still was a cog in the corporate machine...

Y'know why I like Idols?

Think about what they are, what it represents. Idols are popular because they're cute, or moe, or because their drooling legions of otaku fans maintain fantasies of waifus. Not because singing, that's ancillary.

Do you know how *demeaning* that is? To have this tacit acceptance that your entire multi-million dollar worth basically boils down to getting up on a stage and parading around? Smiling and making heart-shapes with your hand? People don't like aidorus because of who they are, most of them don't give two shits about their feelings or their innermost dreams or whatever.

And, even more, just *one* idol has a net worth in the multiple millions. This is a culture, one shaped by ours, that will place multiple-fucking-millions on a cute smile, a manufactured persona, and a set of pettankos. Isn't that completely fucked up?

Who they are, as a person, is completely fucking irrelevant; As long as it's cute, it'll sell.

And *that* is why Idolmaster ero-doujins are best ero-doujins. Well, no. Love Live is also a strong competitor, because while the im@s might love their job, the Lovelives are literally doing it for the money. The entire concept of an idol is incredibly satisfying, on a psychological level.

Furthermore, this is why Ritsuko is best IM@S; Because she perpetuates this. Ritsuko is the Producer's assistant who moonlights as an idol; Usually though, she handles the business side of things. Think about it; P-san grooms these girls into mindless singing cute things and Ritsuko pushes them out onto the stage with Zenis in her eyes. How is that anything but bestgirl, especially amidst a horde of mindless singing cute stock characters?

"Escort?" You blink.

"You think I'm going to let one of my star pilots run off on her own when OB has a price on your head?" Samantha rolls her eyes. "I'll task Jager to keep an eye on your while you're away. Maybe he can help with the punching. You have any objection to that?"

"N-no." You shake your head.

You look awkwardly at the private charter plane sitting on the tarmac, a bit unsure of what to do. Do you wait for the others to arrive? Do you just board and wait? You were used to flying these things, not actually riding in them!

"Yo, Karla, what are you doing just standing out here? You look like a chicken with its head cut off." Amy smirks at her own joke as she walks up, in casual clothes and slinging an duffel bag over her shoulder.

"Just waiting for everybody else." You shrug nonchalantly.

"Where are we going, anyways? Samantha told me it was something about tracking down your deadbeat dad?" Amy cracks her knuckles. "Gonna be spending 'quality time' with him?"

"Maybe." You chuckle at the thought. "Anyways, we're flying down to Rutherford."

"Huh, never been there." Amy shrugs. "Guess it'll be an experience."

"Karla. Amy." Jager greets you both as he arrives. He's dressed very professionally in a suit and tie, like some sort of private bodyguard. Then again, that was kind of why he was coming along. "Let's get going, then."

He stops by the stairs leading up into the plane and motions for the both of you to go first.

"Maaaaaan, I'm so jealous!" Amy whispers in your ear as the two of you head up the stairs, safely out of earshot from Jager. "How come you get to hang out with a stud like that?!"

"It's all because of my superior Belkan charms, of course." You give a smug grin. "A mere Ustian like you can never hope to match me!"

"Ha ha, very funny." Amy grumbles.

"Ah, don't worry about it!" You pat your wingmate on the back. "You'll find a nice bedwarmer someday!"

"Hmph." Amy huffs as she enters the plane before you.

"I get the feeling she doesn't like you." Jager says as he catches up.

"Nah, she's just sexually frustrated all the time." You explain.

"I AM NOT." You hear her yell from inside.

"I can see you two get along very well." Jager nods.

"Oh, don't you start getting cute with me!" You slap him on the shoulder.

"This is gonna be a long flight..." Amy sighs.

You settle into your seat as the plane prepares to take off. You see Amy plant some earphones on and closes her eyes as she leans back in her seat, obviously catching up on her sleep. You meanwhile take a seat next to Jager.

"So, I hear we're going out to find your father?" Jager asks.

"Yeah, I guess Samantha told you?"

"Ah, well, what is there to say? I hardly knew him at all." You smile bitterly. "All I really know is that he was a pilot in the Belkan War. Served with distinction until near the end of the war where he went MIA, and everybody assumed he was shot down."

"Evidently, that wasn't the case." Jager points out.

"Yeah, I came across evidence that he might have deserted Belka, or at least crashed his plane somewhere near Rutherford."

"Yeah, it makes sense. A lot of Belkans started to desert when the end became evident." Jager nearly spits the words out. "Didn't have the guts to face up to what they did and accept responsibility."

"I don't think it's that simple." You frown. "I mean, from what I can tell, my Dad was ordered to launch a nuclear attack on Oured? I mean, what else would he do in that situation?"

"That's true." Jager nods then pauses. "Wait, a nuclear attack?"

"Yeah, some kind of portable V weapon, that was stored in the Vault we destroyed." You explain. "But since Oured isn't a glass crater, I think it's safe to assume that he never fired those off."

"I see. Yeah, that might change things." Jager admits.

"But really, I just need to KNOW. Like, is he actually alive? Or did he not make it? The uncertainty has been eating me up since forever..."

"If I can somehow help, I'll gladly do it." Jager nods. "You can count on me."

"Thanks." You smile as you rest your head on Jager's shoulder."

---

"So... is this the place?" Amy frowns as she looks out the window at a small farmhouse in the middle of a field.

"Probably." You nod. "My Uncle did his research. This farmhouse actually does not show up on local records, or at least doesn't have a registered owner, yet it's clearly inhabited. Also wasn't using utilities until shortly after the Belkan War ended. Kind of a lot of coincidences, if you tell me."

"Your Uncle is kinda scary." Amy frowns.

"Oh, he is." You grin.

"Girls, we have a problem." Jager frown as the car pulls to a stop. Up in front is a small iron gate, locked shut with a thick chain and padlock and a sign reading TRESPASSER WILL BE SHOT hanging off it.

"How inviting." Amy says sarcastically.

"We'll have to go on foot the rest of the way." Jager gets out of the car, opens up the truck, and arms himself with a rifle. "I suggest you girls arm yourselves, as well."

"Whoa, I thought we were here to talk, not start a fight!" Amy frowns.

It's like you guys don't even want to have cool Belkan Space Magic guns. Caseless ammo and decent accuracy, plus no recoil until after 3 round burst has gone off.

Nope, X-COM: UFO Defense world map editor. AKA, the original X-COM. Which, I might need to repoly all of Verusea because it's not a detailed enough continent. Osea I think is my best, and it's my third try at making, Usea is meh, Anea I have no idea what looks like what so I'm okay with. But Verusea came out the worst.
>>
>>39844135
Actually, you got Anea pretty down
Just need to reflect how much of a shithole Estovakia is, and it's gold
Usea needs much more desert towards the Western tip, and the north should be icier-see Breaking Arrows and Whiskey Corridor for reference
>>
>>39844167
Ah, yeah, I need to add terrains to Osea. But at least it'll look a little more organic, hopefully. Also need to see what the heck Fato and those other countries are like on the other side of Belka. Sapin is apparently mostly mountains, and I have the mountain range through B7R. Also need to touch up Usea, but that'll come after terrains on Osea and repoly-ing Verusea.

Anea I've really given up on for now because at that altitude, the distortion sky rockets for warping when the game makes a globe. So I tried widening it a bit, but stopped because it's a bitch and I'm not too good anyhow.

"We don't want to provoke him. Let's just go with concealed weaponry." You suggest.

Jager just gives you a skeptical look before stowing the rifle back into the trunk.

"Whatever you say." He grunts, obviously unhappy with your choice. Instead, he takes out three handguns and divides them among you. Both you and Amy hide yours under your coats, while Jager slides his into a prepared holster.

"You girls ready?" He asks.

Both you and Amy nod.

"Good, then stay behind me." Jager effortlessly vaults over the waist high gate, and helps both you and Amy clamber over it.

"Jeez, you make it look so easy." Amy grunts.

"That's because it is for me." He points out.

"Way to rub it in." She sighs.

You take the chance to take in your surroundings. You were surrounded by large grass fields with some light tree cover scattered around. You get the ugly feeling that if someone wanted to shoot at you, you'd be completely exposed. However, none of you encounter any resistance.

"It's quiet." You muse.

"Too quiet." Jager grunts. Your little group was now just a handful of meters away from the farmhouse. "You two stay back. I'll go check it out."

"You two wait here. He might recognize me." You say.

"Might?" Both Jager and Amy raise an eyebrow skeptically.

"Well, better than three strangers walking up, making him feel outnumbered." You point out. "And no offense Jager, but you're pretty damn intimidating."

"None taken."

You break cover and approach the farmhouse very, VERY carefully. However, you pause when you hear a gunshot, and a puff of dirt explodes no more than a meter in front of you.

"One more step and the next one is between your eyes." You hear a voice grunt from within the farmhouse. "No turn around and go away. And take your two friends with you."

"Wait!" You yelp. "Does the name Karla Weiss mean anything to you?"

There's a loooooooong silence. Finally, you hear the sound of numerous locks begin undone and the front door of the farmhouse swings open to show a fairly aged man, with prematurely whitened hair. He looks at you with a suspicious eye.

"How do you know that name?" He grunts, his hunting rifle still pointed at you.

"It's mine, after all." You say simply.

The grizzled old man lowers his rifle, a look of disbelief on his face.

"Is it really you, Karla?" He whispers, stumbling forward.

"Dad." You respond, walking towards him.

Verusea's desert is slightly fixed, tried to make Usea look less shitty, Osea should be next to terrain map before final adjustments get sent around to make it more official. If anyone wants to save these and recolor them how they think the geography looks, I'll do my best to edit the map to reflect as such.

You stride up and punch you father in the face as hard as you can, sending him spinning and dropping to the dirt.

"THAT'S FOR LEAVING ME AND MOM, ASSHOLE!" You bellow, venting out years of pent up frustration. God it felt so GOOD.

"I probably deserved that." Dad nods, massaging his jaw.

And then you drop down to you knees and hug him.

"But I'm glad to see you're still alive." You smile.

You suddenly feel your shirt getting warm and wet, and you see your father sobbing in your shoulder.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I wanted to come home, I really did, but..." He sniffs. "I couldn't leave this place. I just couldn't."

By this point, both Amy and Jager had come out of the trees to investigate, but are smart enough to keep your distance as both you and your father vent your pent up emotions.

Fuck, you promised that you wouldn't cry, but you pretty much failed anyways as your eyes start tearing up as well.

"You've grown into a wonderful woman, Karla." Dad sighs. "And I'm sorry I missed all of it."

"What was so important that you'd stay out in this wasteland for 25 years?" You ask curiously.

"I'll show you." Dad finally stands up and glances at Amy and Jager. "Do you trust these two?"

"Why my life." You say.

"Okay, they can come, too." Dad wipes the last of the tears out of his eyes and heads for a distant barn. You, Amy, and Jager follow. "What I'm about to show you, CANNOT tell a single soul of this. Is that clear?"

The three of you nod.

"The last two Trinity missiles." You frown.

"You know of them?" Dad gasps.

"We found the Vault you took them from. That's how we managed to track you down." You explain.

"Looks valuable." Jager leans in to get a closer look. "Interested in selling them?"

"NO." Dad grunts. "Wasn't sure how to safely dispose or destroy them, so the best I could do was keep them hidden away and hope nobody found them."

That was a vision, it wasn't real.

Stupid halloween themed thread vision thing that somehow became a legit plot point.

Biggest gripe I have.

>Don't worry, we can safely dispose of them.
What would even be worth using them on at this point?

>>39845154
Good job! When I play UFO Defense I always put my first base in Crete, my second in the central US and the third on Borneo. That strategy gives pretty good radar coverage over the majority of funding nations. With this map I would have to totally rethink my strategy. Also:

I was thinking we could fly the plane and fire them at the vault being fought over by Atlas, Dahl and OB
>>
>>39845355
This is actually a rather good idea.

Then if anyone gets on our tits about it, we can just say we were testing experimental tech and we're terribly sorry and blah blah blah.

Two birds with one stone.

No, in and out only.

"Don't worry, we can safely dispose of them." You say. "We uh, actually have a good idea of their blast radius."

"You do?" Dad raises an eyebrow.

"We kinda blew the third warhead up."

"I see." Dad nods. "And your friends here?"

"Oh right, we never introduced each other!" You nod and point to Amy. "This is Amy. She's one of my wingmates, and a Warthog driver."

"Pleasure to meet you." Dad smiles and shakes her head. Amy just glares at him suspiciously. "Did... did I say something wrong?"

"Nah, she's just Ustian." You say.

"Ah, nobody's perfect." Dad nods without missing a beat.

"Great, now I gotta deal with two assholes!" Amy rolls her eyes.

"And this young man?" Dad asks, nodding to Jager.

"Oh, that's Jager. Works at the same company I do, though he focuses on ground ops."

"Pleasure to meet you, sir." Jager salutes.

Dad just looks at you, and then back to Jager a couple of times.

"You two aren't..."

"Oh, we're not dating." You assure him.

"Ah." Dad sighs in relief.

"...yet."

He then shoots a poisonous look at you and then Jager, who just shrugs innocently.

However, the moment is ruined when there's a loud beeping sound. Dad pauses and takes out his cell phone.

"What's happening?" You ask.

"Perimeter alarm that I rigged up." Dad grunts when he looks at the screen and then shows it to you, revealing a convoy of black SUVs barreling up the road leading to the farmhouse. "These your people."

"No, it's just us three." You assure him.

"Damn. They must have followed you here." Dad seethes. "I don't think they're here to make a social call."

"You think it's OB?" Amy whispers.

"Must be." You whisper back.

"Are they here for you or the missiles?" Jager asks.

"Does it really matter?"

"We can't let them get to the missiles." Dad grunts and walks over to the other end of the barn. "Thankfully, I've been preparing for something like this."

He then stops by a tarp covered shape and pulls the tarp off, revealing a pair of aircraft.

An OV-10 Bronco and Malmo MFI-9, armed to the teeth with jury rigged and improvised weapons.

"Holy shiiiiiiiit!" Amy squees. "These are some fucking classics right here!"

"You up for some flying?" Dad asks.

Hell yes you are.

If we ever get an opportunity, we should totally ask Dad if he knows any Vault locations as well if he remembers what's in them, specifically which one of them has those skintight flight suits.

thanks for the thread Merc

Also that Bronco is totally going to be us and Jager's joyride and romantic getaway plane

hell you don't even need to jury rig the guns on it, they had a centerline 20mm chaingun turret and could carry hellfires, mavericks and sidewinders as well as rocket pods
