Welcome to Magical Soldier Quest! Where you play Akane Shogo, an ex-member of the most deadly squad of mortals on the planet. But once you killed a Witch all by your lonesome, you were recruited by the Em-Gees, or Magical Girls, and you’ve been one hell of a team mate since, killing Witches and cooking food since.

>Wait a second Artemis, there's another quest there in the archives! What's that?

Well that is my new quest, Lost In Time! It will be a lot more serious than this quest, with more focus on strategy, realism, leadership, and rolls actually meaning more than how good your food is. If you're into that I am I'll be running it tomorrow! Maybe read it now, and tell me what you think!

But now, back to Magical Soldier Quest. You arrived at the HQ of Games Workshop, where an Em-Gee who appears to act out Khorne has offered you a task.

---

Okay. Whatever just happened was extremely confusing, and you feel uncomfortably similar to the time in Cookingspace.

But either way, you have a task to carry out.

“There’s a wargaming shop not too far from here that’s having a few games set up in the city hall. We need some entertainment for the players.” The girl, who had called herself Chaos, looked over to where Roland and Matey were standing. “I don’t know, but it seems to me that these two could play the part.”

.Roland looks at you with pleading eyes. “Shogo, there is nothing more that I would love to do right now in this instant than to be a real life Space Marine for these people.

Matey jus’ shrugz. “I don’ mind whicheva way we go.”

”Hmm. Yes. We can do that.”

Roland does some weird celebration ritual while Eliza looks confused. Alice, though, follows along, and pulls out some plans from her pockets which seem to be for Adeptus Sororitas armor. Matey just seems rather relaxed with the entire affair.

“Before we do, though, Chaos, you’ll need some-” before you can finish your sentence, Eliza has pulled you away from the group. “Yes, Eliza?”

She takes a breath, before not so quietly whispering “What on earth do you think you’re doing?”

“...Uh, is there something I’m meant to be doing?”

She facepalms. “Do you not notice that every single thing you’re doing seems over the top right now? I get that we’re Em-Gees, and we break the laws of physics and reality on a daily basis, but you’re going straight to fiction.”

You shrug. “I mean, I can see what you mean, but for the most part it’s not that bad. Do you honestly feel that way, Eliza?”

“Yes.”

“Well...”

>Alright, how about you and me go kill some Witches, like sensible Em-Gees?
>...I think you’d look great in the Sisters of Battle armor that Alice has ready. How about it?

”..I think you’d look great in the Sisters of Battle armor that Alice has ready,” you raise a hand to prevent the onslaught, “and yes, I know, it is silly. So, as soon as we take care of this, we’re going to go hunting Witches, like proper sensible Em-Gees. Please, Eliza?”

She fumes for a few seconds, before eventually giving up. “Fine. Hey, Alice? Got one that fits me?”

Alice grins and grabs hold of Eliza, helped by the rather impressive bulk that the power armor adds. “Oh, they’re one size fits all. So what color do you like? Imperial Blue and Gold, or Chaos spattered blood over Imperial Blue and Gold?”

As Alice takes care of Eliza, you turn to Chaos. “So, where is this place?”

---

Roland grunts as he parries another hit, his chainblade stalling slightly under the relentless onslaught of the ork’s fists. He slowly descends toward the ground, forced into a crouch by the hits, but he pushes back with a great roar, sending the ork flying backwards across the room, to smash against the brick wall.

The ork itself frees itself from the dent, dusting itself off before looking back at Roland. “Roight, if dat’s how ye’re gon’ play it, den ‘ave at ye!” the ork starts running at the last few words, coming back to crash with Roland in the centre of the room.

You watch as all this happens, then nudge Matey, who’s sitting next to who. “Who do you think’s going to win?”

Matey shrugz. “Eh, Roland. Chaos iz a good orky, but jus’ doesn’ave de spirit. ‘Er akshuns still feel hoomie, you know?”

You shake your head in agreement and continue to watch. Not five minutes later, the truth is revealed, as Roland manages to throw back Chaos and plunge his sword into her, ending the battle. Neckbeards around the room rejoice, shouting out “For th’Emprah!”. The Chaos players merely laugh and continue to absolutely destroy their opponents. The single Eldar player in the corner is sobbing, since no one cares about him nor made an effort to bring an Eldar to the fight.

Turning back to the leaderboards, you see the next match will be the Adeptus Astartes v. Adeptus Sororitas. Alice looks rather fearsome, her power suit only emphasized more by the two chainswords ready on her waist. Eliza is with her, and looks rather bored, the bolter held in her hands pointing down and low.

You walk on over to Eliza, who’s watching the battle between Alice and Roland just starting. “Hey. Remember that promise? Let’s go kill some witches.”

Eliza grins. “Wonderful. Back to a nice, normal, proper, perfectly fine day.”

---

After escaping from the convention-cum-arena, you and Eliza make your way outside. Eliza looks around a bit, then gestures in two directions. From both you can feel a sense of power.

Welp, you’re looking for a challenge. You indicate the more powerful one, and Eliza nods. You both start heading towards the point...

And find what seems to be a rather large collection of demons waiting for you. The local MTRT is out in force, firing rounds downrange into the mass of demons. You also spot members of their Alpha team in the middle of it all, cutting down demons left and right.

And further in, you spot the entrance to the Witchspace itself, where another Alpha member seems to be rigging up a det-pack. You remember that not a week or two ago you were in the exact same position. How quickly time flies when you get hired by Em-Gees.

Hey, show up tomorrow at maybe...2PM CST, for the continuation! Sorry about the direction we had to take, and I realize my own writing skills fell apart towards the end, but I'm working on the world building, planning out where you're at, and I'm going to make it a ton of fun!
>>
>>39856045
I'm personally hype for reverse engineering magic/magical tools
>>
>>39856118
God damn it, I'm so fucking excited for it too. Obviously magic can do some stuff you guys can't, so I can't wait for JEP to combine them. Joan in a half magical and half mechanical suit of armor will be fun. And who's to say you guys can't learn how to use magic yourselves?

As a side note, the thread may have gone a different way if you went for the fusion engine, and not the Playhouse. Both are good, but there's a way to convert magic>energy, and vice versa. And with a fusion engine...But the playground's pretty fucking fun too. Magically enhanced lathes, with nano-metre precision? Fuck yes.

Alright, you better deal with the small demons first. You remember seeing both Em-Gees helping you and completely ignoring your time as one of the Alpha team, and you flicked off the latter each and every single time. Time to actually be the former, yourself. You start running, quickly building up a pace, and you feel the energy both in your armor and your body build up, ready to fight.

>Your magic is currently full, at 20/20
>Lightning Strike, Costs 5M. Basic lightning strike you learnt from Absorbing Marie's magic.
>Supercapacitor, Costs 20M. Shocks enemies, can chain on weaker ones.
>Shotgun Charge, Costs 1-InfiniteM, or runs passively in high-magic areas. Power up the rounds in your shotgun for more power. Yes, Infinite energy would look really fucking cool.
>Absorb, Can replenish mana, deals damage based on what you absorb.
>Conversion: Absorb matter to refill Magicks, or do it the other way around!

One of the MTRT turns around at the sound of footsteps, and tries to stop you, but is interrupted himself as you and Eliza jump over him, straight into the middle of the horde. Eliza gets to work, looking completely in her element as she retrieves some weapons from hammerspace and begins hammering in the space of the demon’s skulls. You, on the other hand, get to using your shotgun properly for the first time.

(1/2)
>>
>>39856045
It's all good. A tad disappointed we won't be uplifting medieval Europe, but modern engies v. Fantasy magic is cool too.
>>
>>39856190

Soon enough, the demons start to clear, and the MTRT push up upon seeing the Em-Gee in their presence. They ignore you, though, which is slightly annoying, but understandable. After all, you’re not in the kinda frilly dress and shooting unnecessarily large weapons at people, are you?

The last demon is felled, and the MTRT push up, ready to secure the gate itself. The Alpha team approaches Eliza, bowing before her. “Thank you, Miss. I had thought the Council said they couldn’t spare an Em-Gee.”

Eliza smiles. “Well, I’m not from the local Council. Came out here for...reasons,” she glances at you, “but I decided to see if there are any gates that needed taking care of. And here I am!”

“Perfect! Now, would you help us secure the gate itself?”

Eliza nods, then turns to you. “Right. We’ll go ahead-”

“We?” one of the Alpha interrupts. “You mean, him?”

Eliza nods. “Yeah. Shogo, introduce yourself.”

Okay. You got this. You’ve read plenty of shounen manga. First, lean head forward to cover eyes in convenient shadow from hair. Next, opening line.

“Heh, who am I, you ask?” you say, quickly materializing a pair of sunglasses. “The name is Shogo,”

Slapping on the sunglasses, you look up at him gloriously, and, first checking the area behind you is clear, convert magic into already-ignited fireworks. “AKANE SHOGO!”

Eliza looks suitably impressed. The Alpha team does too. The one talking to you, though?

“Cool, you’ve got trick fireworks. Uh, Miss, are you sure he’d be that helpful?”

You scoff at the leader’s reaction. ”Really? Wasn’t good enough for you? Come on, George, what was my rating?”

George thinks. “With three judges, you’d probably get two sevens and a six. With four judges, probably seven, six, seven, and then one shithead who gives you a minus two because he can.”

You nod, and turn back to the leader. “So, before you try to insult me any more, what makes you so good?”

The leader glares at you. “I have no doubt that that magical creature around your neck is the only reason you’re capable of anything, but I’ll allow you to come. Now,” and turning back to Eliza, “miss, may we?”

The group advances towards the gate, and one by one they all go through. The leader seems to be waiting to be the last one in. As you follow the queue, he pulls you to the side and whispers, “You may think you’re lucky to accompany a magical girl, but realize that you’ll never be able to live up to their standards. Or even mine. Bet you failed the basic MTRT courses. Now stay to the side, and don’t fuck anything up.” With that, he pushes you through the gate.

Once through, you arrive in what appears to be a mine. The ground beneath you is rocky, with a set of rails passing through under you and the group that had already arrived, leading further inside. You spot Eliza planning out something with the other Em-Gees.

Eliza looks up and smiles. “Perfect, you’re here. So, from what I can tell this may be an elemental based Witch. Easier than one of the Seven Sins, but as you saw from Ramsey and Harriet, they may not be what you expect. So,” she indicates the mine ahead, “we’re going to run down there and find out what’s what!”

This is a Witch we’re talking about, Mr. Akane, and while maybe the Em-Gee can take care of herself you’ve got nothing going for you.” You flinch slightly as the leader approaches the group, looking very...salty. “I suggest we go for the humans first, then take care of the Witch. After all, this place may collapse on us once we kill the Witch. So,” he points at you, “You’ll rescue the victims, while those who actually know what they’re doing handle the Witch.”

You sniff the air delicately, getting a little too close to the leader. “Wow, I know you can hear the ocean with a shell, but around you it’s like I can smell the ocean! Is it even good for you to have an electronegativity that high?”

“What-”

“Listen, guy. You’re right. These are Witches we’re talking about. And there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that any MTRT member can kill a Witch. I mean, sure, I killed my first in the MTRT too,” the leader does a spittake, “but I was part of the Alpha Squadron then, too. And I had some good teammates. Heard of MTRT 17? Roland’s our squad leader.”

A few of the other Alphas blanch, and one asks, “Roland? With the armor? And the slab of steel?”

“He’s got more armor now, but-”

“Fine, then. Fine, Mr. Akane, I’ll send the MTRT to rescue. But I’m coming with the Em-Gee, so she actually has someone to help her.”

You shrug. “Sure. I always liked incense, anyway.”

“You little-”

Eliza cuts the both of you off. “Alright, stop with the dick measuring contest. Let’s get to work.”

You quickly open up the fake wall, by simply absorbing it and turning it into magic.

>Magick 30/20. You feel the magic draining itself.

Before the leader can make a comment, you and Eliza are already running down the hallway, and you keep running for quite a while. You check your Radar occasionally, ensuring that you aren’t running into any never-ending corridors.

And eventually, you find yourself in the centre of the Witchspace. All around you, pools of lava bubble, rocks dissolving inside them, with larger boulders scattered everywhere to act as stepping stones. In the centre of it all is a stone plateau, where you see nothing but what appears to be two Witches. One, a rather short and stout woman, seems to be made completely from stone. The other, taller and incredibly curvy, is composed of lava. Both turn to look at you as you enter.

“Why, I must be stoned or something,” comments the shorter Witch. “An Em-Gee and her sidekicks just walked on in here, unaware of their imminent death.”

“Indeed,” says the other, “it just makes my blood boil. And that’s not counting my already...fiery countenance.”

You quickly assemble your sunglasses, and first start with the fire-Witch. “God damn, girl, I’ve heard of hot chicks, but you’re on fire! I actually think you might warm up to me, but from what I can see you’re already in heat!” even as the fire-Witch starts to choke back laughter, you turn to the other Witch. “And you’re just as gneiss! Really, you are just so sublime(stone), and you seem so fancy! Definitely part of the upper-crust!”

The stone Witch laughs, and turns to the fire Witch. “Well, he’s definitely beating us at our own game,” and turning back to you, “I’m guessing you’re hear to try stop us?”

You nod. “Indeed.”

“Well, good luck, you’re gonna need it.” And with that, she launches herself towards you, the fire Witch following close behind.

Even as the Witches approach, you ground yourself and start absorbing the magic from the air around you. Even as that runs out, you start converting the energy of the vibrating atoms into magic, lowering the temperature to below zero in a few seconds. Soon enough, just as the Witches are a few metres away, you hit Absolute Zero.

Now, you can’t see anything but a large blob of white. Now that the air itself has frozen, you can’t see through to where the Witches are.

“Eliza, how do you want to take this?” you turn to ask.

She grins. “Thaw out the stone Witch’s head. Because it’s time for rock,” she slaps on a pair of sunglasses, and grabs an executioner’s axe, “and roll.”

You do as she says, and once the head is out the Witch comes back to life, coughing. Once done, she stares at you. “Impressive. That was your hand, and yet I don’t feel any magic coming out of you. In fact...” the Witch has no time to think before Eliza has cleanly decapacitated her.

“Next!”

“On it.” You get to work on thawing out the fire Witch. This time, the Witch doesn’t wake up immediately, and even as her skin works to ignite again you see the human features underneath.

”Uh, hold on one second, Eliza.”

She stops, and looks at you. “Why?”

“Well, we kinda just absolutely destroyed them. And I worry that this isn’t even close to being fair.”

Eliza smiles. “What’s meant to be fair about it? They took normal human beings prisoner. For what, it’s easy enough to guess. Therefore, this bitch’s ass needs shanking.”

“Well, how about we actually ask them questions first? You can still kill them.”

Eliza thinks about it for a second. “Alright then. Fine. A few questions.”

Finally, the fire Witch wakes up, but her skin remains in the perpetually igniting state, unable to maintain a steady burn so close to the cold. She looks first to her left, where the body of the other Witch is still frozen in the block, and sniffs. “Good riddance.” then she looks to you. “Is this how I die?”

Eliza grins. “First, some questions. Willing to answer them?”

“Nope. Why should I? You’re going to kill me as soon as I do.”

Eliza shrugs. “Fair enough. Anything you will say?”

The Witch thinks for a second. “Nope. It’s not like you can make me, either.”

“On the contrary,” George says, unwinding himself. “I think I’m perfectly up to the-”

“So, what questions do you want me to answer?” the Witch cuts in, panic clear on her face. “Any questions, as long as I’m guaranteed a clean death.”

You begin, “What was your plan-”

“Find humans, harvest them for power, take over world. Like every other Witch.”

“Aren’t there sane Witches?” you ask, remembering Gordon Ramsey.

“Well, yeah, but whatever route you take you end up at taking over the world. Next question.”

“Are there other Witches in the area?”

“No idea. We don’t exactly stay in contact. I only befriended her,” she indicates the other Witch’s body, “because we were both elementals.”

“Anything you really want to tell us?”

“No-” and with that, Eliza beheads the last Witch. She turns to you. “Wonderful! And we’re done.”

The leader, having stood back for most of this, interrupts, “and what the hell was that? You can’t just behead people at random, even them. She had given up! Or, at least, we had her under control.

Eliza grins at him, a feral expression. “Oh, definitely. But I’m angry. I’ve been incredibly confused these past few days, and I wanted something normal. Plus, these fucking Witches continue to take people for their fucking playthings.”

“...Alright.” you turn around, and start walking away, leaving behind the quietly sobbing Eliza. Because you don’t know how to solve her problem. You don’t know what else to do.

---

It’s with a more calm disposition that you look out on the city of Nottingham, later that night. The MTRT managed to take care of rescuing the prisoners, with apparent minimal casualties, as the Witches had never got around to taking care of...whatever they had in store for them.

But it’s the other situation that worries you. Eliza has disappeared. And no one knows where. Once you found Roland and the others, you had explained the situation to them, and you had all waited for Eliza to eventually come back. But she never did.

So while Roland has gone on to meet th’Emprah, and punish him for lying to the world, you’ve been looking around, trying to find Eliza. With not much luck. It’s two in the morning now, and there hasn’t been any sign. Those you’ve stopped to ask haven’t seen or heard of her. And you’re getting tired yourself

>>
>>39862809
False! She just spends all her time in it.

>>39862848
With the acceptance of Em-Gees, the normal form isn't really necessary anymore. You don't exactly have to hide it from your parents. So that's why most Em-Gees spend their time like that. Some research since the Coven Event shows that there aren't problems with prolonged stays in either state, though going for a year without going Em-Gee may lead to a weakening of power. That's about it.

Eliza's another case, though.
>>
>>39862676

No. You have to find her. Eliza is important, the leader of Haioku, and you’d like to think your friend. You’re not going to let her get lost.

So you use your Radar. Even when you try to be ready for the spike of pain, it still hits you like a sack of bricks, the pain almost overwhelming your efforts. Slowly, you’re able to bring it down to Nottingham itself, and while the pain is still there you aren’t incapacitated by it anymore.

>Magical stress! 1/3.

But even with your efforts, you still can’t detect her. So either she’s left the city...or, judging by the amount of gates you find lying open everywhere, she’s been going in and out of Witchspace.

>Go to the most powerful one. She may eventually find her way there, if she isn’t already at it.

Looks like the best thing you can do is head to the most powerful gate there is, and wait for her to inevitably find her way there. Figuring out the sense of direction, you start heading to the gate, keeping your own weapons at the ready.

Once you arrive, you find that you needn’t have bothered. Demons, or what could have been demons, are smeared on the streets. The gate itself stands in the centre of it all, pulsating a deep red.

You best enter. If the demon paste is evidence of her being here, then you worry about the fate of the Witch inside. Slowly closing down your Radar, you hop through the gate, letting it take you through the hole in dimensions, and dropping you off in what appears to be a forest. The trees appear to be weeping, and the leaves are covered in a thick blood that reeks of sadness and misery.

You shake your head of the scent, and try to look around for a clear path. You find two paths going around a thick patch of trees, and what appears to be a path straight through the trees that seems to have been installed rather recently. The charred remains of the poor plants that stood in the way of whatever blast there was are still smoking. Through that path, you can see a very large tree. George around your neck coughs at the sight of it.

”You seem nervous, George.”

“Indeed I am.”

“What’s the reason?”

“I think you realize it at this point. You know of the tree from the great norse myths?”

You think for a second. “Yggdrasomething, right?”

“Yggdrasil. The World Tree. From the roots of Hell up to the high branches of Asgard, the World Tree is what encompasses all the worlds.”

You peer harder at the tree in the distance. “It doesn’t really seem that big.”

“It isn’t. This is merely a remake of the tree, not the true thing.”

“So why are you so nervous?”

“Those who know of the tree have a hard time letting it go. They may create their own, however much it pales in comparison, because they need that presence, that being greater than themselves.” George shrugs. “I wasn’t much for it, but considering I was the one thing that was as great or greater than Yggdrasil itself, I haven’t felt much of a need to.”

“So what do you recommend?”

“This Witch is an old one. From my time, at least. I have no doubt you’ll be able to manage most of the possibilities, but be careful nonetheless.”

You nod, and start advancing up the pathway provided by (you’re guessing) Eliza. After fifteen minutes of hard running through the charred road, you finally come to the core of the Witchspace.

Where you find Eliza throwing weapon after weapon at a tall woman, who’s appearance seems regal, but cold, in an ice queen sort of way. But her beauty almost overwhelms it, tugging at even your own heart. You manage to shake the feeling off after a few seconds, though.

“That would be Freyja. You can best her, for sure. But Eliza...” George mutters, watching the battle.

Eliza roars as she pulls out another weapon, this time a Greek javelin, and tosses it as hard as she can towards the Norse goddess. Freyja, in turn, steps to the right, dodging it. But you can tell from the scars already present on the supernatural beauty that she’s been hit already, and she’s angry about it.

“YOU ARE NOTHING!” the goddess roars, throwing forth a gigantic bolt of darkness towards Eliza, who dodges out of the way. “YOU ARE THE DIRT BENEATH MY FEET!”

Eliza says nothing in response, just unleashing a hailstorm of knives at the goddess, who dodges all but one, which sinks into her thigh. Freyja screams, and lets loose a flurry of bolts, which home in on Eliza.

Eliza manages to dodge them as well, but you can tell she's tiring. A large scar runs across the left side of her face, leaving behind an oily reflective film from the darkness. She stumbles slightly, but manages to catch herself and toss some more weapons at Freyja.

Watching this all, you whisper to George, “Any recommendation to fight Freyja? What’s her weakness?”

George responds, “heavily magic dependent, but very strong. Of course, this means nothing to you. What do you have planned?”

With that, you step forward, ready to

>Kill Freyja

Come on, Anon, I'm in Central. I STAY UP FOR YOUR SAKE.

Or, you know, we could all get some well deserved sleep. It's 246 posts, that's pretty good. And we left on a good point. How about it?
