Welcome Back to Call of Maido Quest. The unholy union of CoC and Maid RPG. Why? Something long dead now turns restlessly in its slumber.

Your name is James Vanhorn, local investigator, war veteran, and apparently wanted dead by some asshole in a paper mask. Nothing unusual besides not getting the customary “get out of town by sunset” warning that you usually do. On top of that there’s now a girl in a ridiculous get up, cluttering your bedroom and front office with really expensive disassembled appliances. She showed up when your childhood pendant got covered in blood and bam, some dame in a late-night red-light getup is on your desk. At least she got rid of the evidence.

Gameplay : Attributes give you that number of rolls to roll under a given skill number.

So you decide to go poke Panako about just what in the hell she is doing, ruining the rather expensive appliances you just bought. She looks like she is making quick work of gutting them, wires and bolts lie strewn about, widgets and components look to have been hastily sorted. There is an old cardboard box to the side, piled high with more bits with something written on the side in the same wavy script that is on your pendant. “Junk. It says Junk. I will endeavor to complete my work quickly Summoner.” Panako doesn't look up from shoving the bits together. A blue glow softly bathes the room from her device as she works.

You put a hand on her shoulder, bringing the work to a sudden stop and ask what she is making. “I am making a tool, something far more advanced than I can explain. A compass, for finding many things. You wouldn't understand. Unless you need something more Summoner than I request you leave me be. These hands are difficult to operate and your tools primitive.” Well, good to know she has a hobby, the ingrate.

Okay then!

Luck is 3, Insight 40. You have a tip about the location so you get a +15 bonus.

I'll take the next 3 linked 1d100s. DC55 roll-under.
>>
Rolled 91 (1d100)

>>39873754
Best of 3?
Do we add to +15 to the roll?
>>
>>39873776
Adds to the DC. CoC system is roll under your skill level so. Insight right now is at 40+15= 55. So you have a 55% chance of a favorable outcome. Investigating involves luck to find a clue so your attribute with that is 3, giving you three chances to pass.

>Leave Panako be and investigate the masked man and the church (Luck/Insight)

You decide to leave Panako’s work alone for the time being. Sciencey stuff like that made your head spin a little, and with the rest of the hoodoo junk leaving it be makes the most sense for you mental health. Don’t need to end up in a padded room with a view. The old church wasn’t too far, a decent stroll would be good for the lungs. Taking your Luger in your side holster and draping your coat over your shoulders, the day wasn’t getting any younger. Crossing the threshold got you a tug at your side. Panako had gotten up while you dressed and was at your side. “ Summoner, you cannot leave here unattended. I would be remiss in my duties if you were to come to harm at my negligence. “ You can’t argue with those eyes. You tell Panako to get dressed in some normal clothes and you head out.

The sun has begun to set when you reached the old dilapidated church. Rays of light peek through the dilapidated roof tiles, forcing your eyes downward to avoid the glare. The windows had long ago been shattered and then boarded up and the lawn, though unkept, had withered away into a short, turf-like brown mass. The gnarled and withered trees seemed to block out all the noise of city life, giving the whole area a somber feel. You don’t want to be around after sundown and get shanked by some drifter looking for a new pair of shoes so you head towards the front door.

After a few steps Panako grabs your wrist and throws you backwards, further than a girl her size should be able. “Stop, there’s a trap.” What trap? There’s nothing but an old boulder and grass between you and the front door. Christ, there goes those knives again. The first knife sails through the air and then stops dead, hovering a few feet from the door. It quickly turns to ash and then disintegrates in the wind. That’s certainly something. The next few knives catch and burn up before Panako find her mark above the door frame. There is a snap in the air as the knife embeds in something. She nods that it is safe to move forward.

Hanging over the door is a wooden plaque, long since weathered but some of the words are legible. “Esoteric Or… arry Wisdom…on this spot…1634” The knife intersects a strange symbol, painted in gold leaf beneath the worn away paint. You pull out your notebook and make a quick note of the information. Panako is silent but you can hear her breathe draw short and quick. She’s nervous, but then again, so are you. Who booby traps an old church with some magic bullshit. Ha, magic. (-1 Sanity from witnessing magic). “Shall we proceed Summoner?”

>Count yourself lucky and head to the library. You should research more before entering.
>Fortune favors the bold, head inside and search.
>Nope, fuck this. Magic, strange girls bound to stones, attempted murder. Head home and sleep.

The rotted planks of the door give way to a few strong kicks. Someone wanted people to stay out, enough to kill anyone who got too close to the door. If there are answers to why someone wanted you dead, this is as good a place as any start looking. It’s a small church, a small vestibule to the west, the church office to the east. North around the corner is the actual church proper. Stairs lead up to the attic by the west. The place has seen better days, but a quick check of the donation box shows it hasn’t been looted. (+$50 Funds).

The walls are covered in soot, suggesting there was a fire before this place was abandoned. Maybe not abandoned, as you swear you could hear something shuffling around upstairs. Panako is still on edge, knives glowing softly in the dark as you press on searching,

>The Vestibule, there may be more info on that strange symbol you found.
>The office. Anything substantial to investigate will be there.
>The Church proper. Just what went down in this strange place?
>Upstairs. Attics are always filled with things left forgotton.

“We can loot this place once we get some more leads to chase down, Panako. Let’s get into the vestibule and see what we can find. Watch my back.” Panako nods, still the icy, unblinking stare and the hum of her knives. The floor boards creak as you walk, kicking up years of dust and mold. You can see how thick the air is with the last waning rays of sunlight peeking through the windows. The door to the vestibule had long been removed, but you can’t help but notice fresh footprints in the dust. Men’s shoes, about size 9, worn by someone with a shuffling gait. Why the man was shuffling became apparent at the sight of the large stone altar within.

Roughly carved and engraved in Latin, the five foot tall stone basin was bathed in blood. Almost like a giant stone goblet, the top was concave and filled with stagnant blood. Peering around the base and at the walls revealed the same strange sigil found on the sign out front. Within the basin floated a single, skinned skull, lifeless eyes staring up at you with the last moments of horror etched into it’s flayed face. The smell reminds you of the war (No sanity loss to gore- history bonus). Panako is still steeled and alert. On the rim of the surface lays some butchering tools. Knives, hooks, and a strange, jagged dagger. Cults were a terrible thing. You write down the inscription and make a note of the symbols and dagger shape.

Eating dinner, sorry for the delay
You decide to head upstairs, confident that nothing good lurks within that pool of blood. Panako covers your rear as you ascend the stairs, boards creaking and shifting with rot. There is a sudden shuffling sound, louder than before. Something is rummaging around up there. The door is padlocked and bolted with a heavy iron framework, juxtaposed against the aging wood. You are unsure how this lock could keep anything sealed up. There is a thin mail-slot you can open on this side. The shuffling continues.

Do you open the mail slot?

You lift the latch only to meet a gigantic eye peering back. It blinks. You blink. Panako curses, and the beast screams. You stumble backwards, catching yourself on the railing before the thing starts banging on the door. The lock glows with golden runes but they sputter out and the wood begins to splinter. Panako grabs your arm. "We need to run". As you bolt down the stairs, the door explodes with a terrible screeching. You catch a glimpse of the beast over you shoulder. Oh fuck no, what the Christ is that. (-5 sanity from witnessing a horrible creature attack you)

And that's where we are going to call it. Thanks for playing!

Thanks for running. Too bad that everyone died at the end. A few more threads and we should have a bigger player base.
