This is the first session of this quest. for the first hour we will discuss the rules and hold a vote on character creation.
>>
* Your Character will have a Strength, Dexterity, and Mind score.

* Your score will determine the dice size of related actions. I.E.: A mind score of 8 will allow you to roll 1d8 on related actions.

* Every quarter hour, a post will be made with a series of choices to be made. Players may vote on any single or logical combination of choices. The most popular choices voted on within the first 10 minutes will be used.

* Write in votes with sufficient support may also be used.

* After the vote has been decided. The QM will roll relevant dice to determine success rate for the next quarter hour's progress post.

* You can follow Twitter account @sbf2009 for updates between quest sessions.
>>
The difficulty of an action will be stated as part of the choice for the vote, but not the numerical value needed to succeed. You can estimate the roll needed using the chart below.

Dice Roll Difficulty:

> Trivial (1-2): Most Hunter's Guild Members would have little trouble accomplishing this.

> Easy (3-4): Not necessarily difficult, but it would be best to let a specialist take over if available.

> Moderate (5-6): A strenuous task. If your class does not specialize in this kind of task, you may wish to find an easier alternative.

> Hard (7-9): Only an experienced guild member should risk this.

> Heroic (10-15): Not possible by even experienced guild members. Even legendary hunters like Rico Tyrell would hesitate to try such a task.

> Impossible (16+): As it sounds. Such actions defy perceptions of reality.
>>
Character Creation:

* A character starts with a MAG with a score of 6 in each attribute.

* Each race has benefits for certain stats and role playing situations.

> Human (Vote A): The standard race. They tend to hold the most positions of power. +1 DEX

> Newman (Vote B): Genetically engineered humanoid chimeras. They have natural weapons in the form of claws and fangs should they ever be caught off guard. They have lighter frames and razor sharp intellects. -1 STR, +1 DEX, +1 MIND

> Cast (Vote C): While A.I.'s that have been declared as responsible and self aware by the Principal's Office are granted the same rights as any Human or Newman, the realities of being an artificial being come with certain difficulties. Often referred to as Androids by less sensitive people. They move slowly but have great strength. They are unable to harness the biological energy needed to use techniques. +1 STR, -1 DEX, +1 MIND

* There are three classes that determine combat abilities.

> Hunter (Vote D): Weapons specialists that like to get in close during combat. Start with a long sword and a handgun. +2 STR

>Ranger (Vote E): Long range specialists. They aren't as hardy as Hunters, but make up for it with survival and tracking skills. +2 DEX

>Force (Vote F): Technique specialists. They can bend the latent photon energy of they equipment with psychic powers to devastating effect. Fragile but deadly. +2 MIND
>>
* You must also choose a gender (even as a cast.)

Male (Vote G): Expected to be more brutish in the field. There is a culture of masculinity in the Hunter's Guild that would makes working with others more fluid when Male forces tend to be looked down on by their female peers.

Female (Vote H): While certain aspects of sexism are alive and well on Pioneer 2, there are benefits to being female. Positions of power and influence tend to be more open to females in the government and guild offices, especially female forces. Female Newmans should learn to ignore catcalls for their own sanity.

Setting and a quick history:

Phantasy Star RPG takes place in the Ragol star system. Ragol is a yellow star with an inner asteroid belt, a habitable planet (also called Ragol,) an ice covered planet (Ragol II), and a dark matter belt.

When planet Coral’s biosphere deteriorated beyond any hope of terraformation, the Pioneer project was put in place to evacuate the families of the wealthiest, most influential, and most intelligent in an attempt to find a new homeworld. Unamnned probes were sent on scouting missions to find a habitable planet. Due to the sensitivity of FTL communications, only limitted amounts of data could be sent back to Coral. A manned mission would be needed to confirm the suitability of the planet. When the probe sent to Ragol reported a near perfect habitability score, Pioneer I was sent with a small complement to confirm the findings and begin colonizing.

Pioneer I, the first interstellar transport ship ever constructed, landed on Ragol with 100,000 colonists. Ragol had nearly the exact same atmospheric and sedimentary composition as Coral. The principal of Pioneer I transmitted an all clear for the colonization effort, and began construction. Pioneer I immediately sent out a subspace signal to Coral to send the remainder of the evacuees to Ragol.

Pioneer II arrived seven years later. Pioneer II held on board the remainder of the evacuees Upon acheiving geostationary orbit above the Central Dome of the colony, Pioneer II opened up channels to receive a data burst. Pioneer I began sending a signal, but was interrupted by a massive explosion from just outside the Central Dome. The explosion, visible from orbit, shook the entire planet. All communcation was cut off, and any orbital scans of ground zero returned with nothing but noise. Strangely enough, infrastructure damage seemed to be nonexistent.

You didn't really make it very clear you wanted the vote right now, since you wrote "discuss the rules in the first hour". Might wanna clear that up.

>>
>>39879182

Sorry. My bad. I just thought it would be important to clear up any confusion about rules before we started a vote. But you guys seem to have things down. We're going to need a few more players to get a solid decision down.
>>
MIND is still useful even if we don't have access to force powers, right?
>>
>>39878769
>Newman (B)
>Force (F)
>Female (H)
>>
>>39879395
>>39879264

I just want you guys to know that C is the cast option, and F is the force option. Casts can't use techniques, which is the only poitn in being a force. It'd be like playing a corceror who can't use magic. I'm not going to say you can't be a force and a cast, but...just don't.
>>
IF Cast can still be force, then female Force Cast. Else, female Force Newman.
>>
>>39879468
Yeah, I just realized that when I looked over my post, hence why I deleted it. Sorry for being an idiot.
>>
>>39879416

Yes. MIND is used for intellectual pursuits. Computer interface challenges will use MIND. Also, hunters and rangers have access to techniques, but they are notably weaker than a force's and are usually best left for utility.

I'll extend the vote to 8:30 to give me time to think of a good intro and to leave time for any mroe questions. Here's what the vote looks like as of >>39879791:

Human 2
Newman 4
Cast 2

Hunter 2
Ranger 2
Force 4

Male 2
Female 6

Looks like the consensus so far is a FOnewearl.

He specifically asked for a female cast in a male-design body, so no husbandoing, either. Unless someone wants to be dommed by a brick shithouse, I suppose.

Butch cast, while a viable option, sounds kinda trolly. On that note, Cast gender involves subtly different social subroutines when they are programmed. You'd essentially be giving yourself mild gender dysphoria. Part of being an A.I. is integrating into the biological culture, including gender roles.
>>
>>39880746
>Part of being an A.I. is integrating into the biological culture, including gender roles.

So a cast who attempts to fulfil those gender roles but has been stuck in a body better built for combat? Sign me up, sounds choice.

You are Pheonixia, a female newman and, as of last week, a Hunter's Guild certified Force. While most others on Pioneer 2 got on board through nepotism or bribery, you earned your way in. Top 10% of your class at Brandis, Coral's premier technological university. You only have a Bachelor of Science in Photon Technology, but that effectively makes you an expert to anyone outside of the Lab.

You've recently been issued a basic set of survival gear and weaponry for planet-side missions. You have a handgun, a cane that focuses Photon energy for use in techniques, a MAG, and a photon crystal with which to feed it. Principal Tyrell has summoned you to his office for special assignment. You should probably feed your MAG first, but you must tell it how to assimilate the crystal.

“Pheonixia, is it? You have a pretty impressive record. I trust you know your way around a Ryuker conduit?”

You gain a bit of confidence and respond firmly. “I do, sir. I wrote my graduating thesis on it.”

“Understood. Is that all?”

“Yes. You'll be joining the group 8 AM tomorrow in the Hunter's Guild lobby. The information is being uploaded to your MAG, so you shouldn't have any trouble recognizing them by their pictures.”

Tyrell waves his hand and his secretary escorts you toward the elevator.

1. Bumplimit is 300. After that, it really depends on how much new htreads are being made. You can sometimes spend five hours or so on autosage. So reply number isn't so important.
2. Yes.

no, autosage/bump limit is at 300, after that you watch your page number. Focus on how long you can run/want to run.

later, it updates rather slowly, but it'll be temporarily archived on 4chan while that's happening.

Guys, I'm changing the rules so that votes are every 20 minutes, with 15 minutes to vote. I overestimated my typing speed. Next post at 10:20. Moving on:

Your MAG floats up to you and a display is projected in front of your face as you read through the record. You briefly look over the summaries on the dossiers you were sent.

Ash – Male Human Hunter. Guild member for 6 months on recommendation from Kireek. Average scores on combat, survival, and tactics. Primarily uses sabers in combat. No technique proficiency on record.

Ash doesn't sound any more experienced than you. Hopefully the next one will give you more confidence.

Eleanor - Female Cast Ranger. Guild member for 1 years. Granted legal sentience this month. High scores in combat and survival. Barely passed the tactics exam. Primarily uses a rifle.

Better, but still sounds like amateur hour.

Kireek – Male Cast Hunter. Guild member since the Guild's inception. Granted legal sentience 10 years ago. Perfect combat, survival, and tactics scores. Proficient in multiple close range weapons. Prefers long armed weapons.

Kireek sounds far more experienced than these others...

You decide that seven years is a bit long to try and recall highly technical information from memory. You haven't touched Ryuker tech since you came on board. There is no need for teleportation when everything you need is within walking distance. Besides, by the time you finished your thesis, you were practically sick of hearing about mass-energy conversions and Photon condensation.

Your MAG brings up some helpful notes from the net encyclopedia, long with some helpful diagrams and video presentations.

“Wait...is that me giving that talk? How long ago was this? What the hell was I thinking with that hair?”

You start actually paying attention well into the lecture.

“...which is only possible because of the unique spacetime bending nature of Photon energy. The object is converted into a matter stream made up of particles similar to, but distinct from, light. The matter stream is then transmitted in what is effectively a laser to the receiver, when it is decoded through a mass-energy demultiplexer and reconstructed.

The matter stream behaves as light would, and can be interfered with in the same manner. Scattering and refraction effects are identical to similarly colored light. When transmitting through a medium, it is vital to have reconstruction algorithms to compensate for loss.”

You immediately look for Kireek. A seven foot tall cast shouldn't be too hard to find.

You walk around a bit, getting a good feel for the Hunter's Guild Hall. There a many guild members here, a few with what look to be clients. Many are enjoying the discounted drinks at the bar. You take a look out the window and look at the planet beneath you. It suddenly strikes you that you'll never see Coral again...but you're ok with that.

A hand on your shoulder brings you out of your thoughts.

You reach over your shoulder and grab a metallic hand. Impressively, you manage to make the cast attached to it lurch forward a bit.

“Careful. Surprising me like that is a good way to lose an arm.”

You turn to face Kireek. His featureless face 'stares' back at you before letting out a strangely robotic laugh.

“Killer instincts. Good! You'll need them where we're going.” He begins walking away. “Come on, we're running late. Our other two team mates are on their way to the shuttle.”

Everyone is strapped in to a small shuttle. The shuttle bay is sealed and depressurized. The sound of crowds on the colony ship quickly fade away and you are left with the silence of three less than talkative strangers. The shuttle leaves the airlock and you are treated to a view of Pioneer 2.

As you breach the atmosphere, the shuttle begins to shake violently. The viewport shows nothing but the flames of reentry (or, in this case, simply entry.) You become visibly anxious as the turbulence becomes stronger. You see that Ash is similarly disturbed.

Eleanor notices and tries her best to distract you. “I don't think we've met yet. I'm Eleanor! I actually watched a couple of your lectures during my mission prep. What have you been doing with yourself while onboard Pioneer 2?”

“Well, I've been doing mostly weapons research in the Lab.”

Kireek probes, “Don't you need a doctorate for that level of work?”

“Well, I'm an assistant. But they've liked some of the ideas I've had enough to pursue them. I actually found a way to increase the potency in a lot of Photon enhanced arms.”

“So then what made you drop that for the Guild life?” Kireek asks. This is beginning to feel less like an interview and morel like an inquisition.

“I'm good at it, and the pay is better.”

Eleanor, presumably satisfied with the answer, moves on. “What about you Ash?”

“Well, I uhm...”

Ash is interrupted by a blackout in the shuttle along with a sharp lurch.

Kireek takes a quick look at what was the navigational display. “Shit...” With his robotic voice, swearing seems almost indistinguishable from an archaic computer's error code.

You wake up groggy. You notice Ash and Eleanor are strapped in but not responsive. Kireek is nowhere to be seen, and the hatch is open.

Current stats: 5 STR/7 DEX/10 MIND

You feel a bit achy, but otherwise ok. You reach up to your forehead to discover dry blood, presumably your own, and some medical gel. It seems that you've been treated for a wound by a MAG with a monomate. You decide that it's best not to touch it.

It takes a bit of effort, but you manage to pry yourself out of the electronic safety harness despite the power outage. You switch your handgun to ready, grab your cane, and activate your MAG. The hatch above your head shows that it's daytime, and the skies look clear. You can hear some distant sounds of the native life, and much louder sounds of scampering on the hull.

You look up to see a massive bird staring down at you through the open hatch in a curious fashion. In other circumstances, one might say this bird looks adorable.

You reach up and stroke the bird's beak. It let's out a gentle, low cluck and stretches it's head down into the shuttle. You take the hint and scratch it's neck, causing it to reflexively scratch the shuttle. It let's out a loud vocalization that awakens Ash.

Ash looks up with his face two feet away from the bird's.

“Pheonixia...what are you doing?”

“Petting the bird.”

Ash frees himself from his harness and takes a couple steps back, “...why?”

“Seemed like the thing to do.”

Ash let's out a nervous grunt. “Why don't you take that outside while I check on Eleanor?”

The bird clucks and brings his head back outside. You climb up to survey the area. You find three birds in front you. Behind them is a field of mangled wildlife in various states of dismemberment.

You cautiously approach the birds. They waddle around you. You decide to part with your trail mix to keep them in good nature while you examine them.

The birds peck away at the nuts and dried berries you leave in a pile on the ground. You see that they all seem to have a single wound somewhere on their bodies. Looks like...plasma burns? Your MAG floats about, taking pictures of the birds.

A rustling in the woods gives them all pause. Kireek emerges from the brush. The birds seemingly faint.

“Ok...it took a while, but while you lightweights were sleeping, I managed to secure a 50 meter perimeter. You need to grab the constr-” he suddenly pauses and notices you squatting down amongst the fallen birds, “What the hell are you doing.”

“Just some field research. The more we know about the native wildlife, the better. Somethign hurt these birds.”

“Yeah. Me.” Kireek interrupts.

“What, why did-”

He interrupts you again “The 'native wildlife' was swarming me while you three were out. Those three birds, along with half a dozen others, were a lot less friendly before I humbled them.”

His angry tone seems to startle birds. They run off in different directions before you can react. You suddenly notice Kireek's scythe. That explains the plasma burns...

“Field research is a secondary objective. In case you haven't noticed, we no longer have a way back up to the ship. You need to get that Ryuker conduit up and running now. Unless you want to wait for another pack of those things,” he gestures toward the sizable pile of large sloth-like carcasses, “to come say hi. Somehow I doubt you'd be able to make friends with them.”

Deciding it best to do as he says, you go back to the shuttle to retrieve the constructor kit for the Ryuker conduit. Ash informs you that Eleanor somehow shorted out during the crash, and her internal repair systems are taking over until she can function again.

As luck would have it, the hatch to the storage compartment is stuck.

Well, the hatch is FUBAR, so it can't hurt to break it.

“Barta!” You psychicly focus photon energy through your cane. A subzero jet of icicles assault the hatch. You hear the metal whine as it strains under the temperature change. You grab your cane with both hands and bring it down hard on the hinges. They shatter, sending the falling inward onto the construction kit. You notice some shrapnel from the inside of the door has penetrated the box. You hope there's no damage.

“Ash! Eleanor! I want both of up here right the hell now!” Kireek barks from outside the shuttle. Eleanor jolts awake.

You lift the heavy box through the hatch and see what the commotion is about.

There appears to be a pack of wolf-like creatures with scales along their packs. You can tell they won't be as friendly as the Rappies.

Kireek faces down the largest wolf. “Eleanor, stay on top of the shuttle and shoot anything that isn't us. Ash, cover Pheonixia. Pheonixia, I want the conduit up YESTERDAY!”
