Previously, you left the city and indeed all of Teleran behind you as you began your fantastical voyage on a ship full of assholes.

You wake up with a sudden start. You don't recognize this place, where are you? Memories rush back into your head as you calm down. Right. This is your cabin aboard the Quedeshi ship.
It's the day after your departure and you're not sure what to do with yourself.

Bunyip is most likely just following the ship
>>

Like I said he'll find us. Besides we can Ask Oster who will likely no exactly where it is via batman powers.
>>
> Go find Oster.

You get up and get yourself dressed before exiting the cabin. You should go find Oster first and ask him just what was going on back on the docks there.
There's just one problem. You have no idea where he is and none of these sailors speak your language. This could be a problem.

You wander around the ship for a bit, the sailors giving you quite the wide berth. And why shouldn't they? Not only are you a pale foreigner, you're Snake-marked besides. Unable to speak Quedeshi or whatever the name of their language is, you get yourself thoroughly lost.

"You look like you're in a bit of bother."

Ah, there he is. You suppose he has a knack for showing up when he needs to.
"I was just looking for you."

"I know," Oster says. He isn't wearing his Ophi mask, finally in an environment where his branded face is a mark of pride rather than a secret that must always be kept.
"You won't get anything from the sailors. I've been checking around, none of them speak Avling."

"I noticed. Isn't that going to be a problem then? I don't particularly want Tash to be translating for us all the time."

Oster shakes his head.
"I get where you're coming from but you don't need to worry. Her Highness has already mastered their tongue. She will provide for both of us. Now...You can thank me any time you want."

"Eh?"

"For saving you a whole lot of trouble back there on the docks yesterday? Don't you want to hear how I did it?"

"Yeah, thanks, whatever."

> "Sure, go ahead and tell me."

>>

Hiss did that though. We just helped. A lot.
>>
> "Actually, I've come to ask about those knife lessons."

He smiles, pulling a knife from somewhere and giving it a little twirl that threatens to cut his fingers off.
"You want to continue our training from the river? I didn't get to work you that hard that day."

He didn't? Oh no.
"Yeah, that sounds great."

"No worries."
He leads you back down the hallway towards a room you assume that he has claimed for his own. There are several knives laid out in fastidious order, along with his leaf-bladed sword, a straight sword that looks like it came from one of the city guard and one of the long curved swords used by the Quedeshi.
"I've got a bit of a collection going, as you might see. Which one do you want?"

knives are actually kind of shit for fighting. Especially against swordsmen
>>
>>39921624
We're an alchemist and sword fighting is totally beyond us.

>>39921571
>> Just the knife thanks.
If I can get competent with a knife then maybe I can try a sword. As it is I'm for more likely to have a knife on me than a sword. Also if push come to shove it'll be poisoned.

Speaking of which remind be to whip some things up for you before we finish the journey.
>>

>>

> Pick the guard sword.

>>39921661
What? I can't use a gun! I'm a doctor!

Sword fighting =/= knife fighting
>>
>>39921661
There's only one way to get good at fighting with swords anon. Which is actually learning to fight with swords through practice and learning from one of the best swordfighters around.
>>
>>39921681
Sword fighting =/= knife fighting

I know but Cennen will not be competent with it any time soon, at least with the knife training he already ahs + poisons he's god with a knife. Also knife is far more concealable.

>>39921692
We'll still need months to get to basic proficiency.
>>
>>39921827
A mediocre swordsman is more useful in a fight than a slightly more proficient knife user
>>
>>39921827
Knife fighting isn't easier than sword fighting. They're both distinct and difficult practices.

You can poison a sword.. and most of the time we're using them as grenades.

A sword can actually be used reliably in an actual fight. A knife is not.. really preferable at all.
>>
>>39921851
>>39921877
Knife is far more easily concealed, easily coated without detection and let's face it if Cennen is anywhere near the front line he's fucked anyways.
>>
>>39921827
Haven't you heard the saying nobody wins in a knife fight?
>>
>>39921917
Far easier to win when you coat it in OHK poison.
>>
>>39921827
Knife fighting is far more difficult to become proficient in. I have no idea what you think knife fighting is actually like.

We'll be far better with using a sword sooner than actually becoming a competent knife fighter.

So fucking what if we can conceal the knife? We're with Hiss and this is the land of serpents or some such. We'll actually be allowed to carry a sword.

That "Well front line dead anyway." is bullshit. We've been on the front line and a sword and knowing how to use it would have been extremely useful.
>>
>>39921938
We can still quite easily use poison on a sword anon.
>>
>>39921938
>knife vs knife
both fighters get cut up
>knife vs sword
sword user laughs and uses superior reach to kill knife user
>>
>>39921571
>> Pick the guard sword.
Best learn how to use something with reach. And if it comes time to actually sort our loadout, there's nothing to stop us keeping a concealed knife in reserve. Or twelve.
>>
>>39921970
Takes longer and more and is easier to see.

>>39921950
Except you're wanting him to actively be a front line fighter when he will never be. He' better off attacking from surprise or lobbing potions.

>>39922042
>Sword Vs. Alchemist
Acid to the face GG. Stop trying to make Cennen a fighter. It'll get him killed.
>>
> Pick the guard sword.

You bend down and pick up the guard's sword. The cross-shaped hilt fits snugly into your hand and the blade itself is straight and double-edged.
"I was thinking, even though we've already done a bit of work on knives...I was just remembering what you told me back then about reach."

Oster nods approvingly.
"Reach wins battles. I taught you knifework in the river because knives were all we had back then and because knowing how to use a knife can never really lead you wrong. But if you want to actually fight then the sword is the way to go."

You think for a moment.
"If reach wins battles, wouldn't I want to learn how to use a spear or something?"

Oster scoffs.
"Bit hard to take with you, isn't it? And they can't be concealed or used in confined spaces. And you seem to end up in confined spaces a lot. Now, let me see you swing that around a bit."

You take a few practice swings and he just shakes his head, stepping in to correct your stance and the way you hold it.
"Oi oi no. You can't just swing it around like a club, not if you want to fight anyone with a lick of sense about them. Remember what I just said about reach? Well one of the ways that matters is that there is an optimal way to swing, the best way to extend the length of your arm. If you don't get used to doing that then the moment you fight someone who can they'll cut you up before you can even lay an edge on them. Basic body mechanics. There's no fanciness here, the basics is just trying to stick them before they can stick you."

You spend the next few hours swinging the sword about and getting beaten around by Oster. Eventually you can take no more and sink to the ground. Oster plucks the guard sword from you and puts it back.
"Don't think I'm letting you keep this just yet. You're still more dangerous to yourself and your friends than any enemies right now. But that's to be expected, the process is neither easy or short."

>>39922067
No. I don't want him to be a front line fighter.

I want him to be able to use a fucking sword. Because if shit goes down and he gets caught he needs to defend himself and a knife is the suicidal option.
>>
>>39922078
>Making Him want to go into melee against opponent who will out class him in both martial skill and physical prowess.
Need I remind you the snakecatcher, or the lieutenant or Frahm? Cennen is several years behind the curb and any skill he's focusing on with the sword take away from his alchemy which is his true strength.

>>39922093
>Not having potions prepped to kill whoever or escape.
We're an alchemist not a swordsman.
>>
>>39922146
Learning to use a sword doesn't make us any less of an alchemist. Obviously we'll still use brews when it's advantageous but swords have their own uses as well.

You groan.
"But if I come back here every day...that'll make it easier right?"

He shrugs.
"Probably. I'll be honest Cennen, you're not exactly suffering from a surplus of natural talent in this regard. But practice beats talent any day of the week."

"But what if I meet someone who has both talent and practice?"

"Then don't sword fight him? I once knew a man who I could never beat no matter how many times I crossed swords with him. He was just better in every way. Want to know how I beat him?"

You sigh. You're pretty sure this is just an excuse for him to get off some boasting.
"How?"

He actually has to spend a few seconds searching his memories, looking troubled.
"I got him chained to one spot and then I just stayed out of his reach and threw rocks at him until he died. It wasn't a good death. But death is just death, at the end of it. If you meet someone better than you with the sword, and that's most people, then just throw acid at them or something. As long as you win."

You shake your head, trying to knock the stars out of your vision.
"Now that you bring it up, do you want anything from me? Smoke bombs, flasks of acid? Just to carry around."

Oster strokes his chin and nods.
"That'd be really helpful I think. Thanks. No need to brew them up just yet though."

"No, of course not. But just as an arrangement. Since you're teaching me how to sword things."

He laughs.
"I don't need payment for that. We both help protect the princess. The more capable you can be at that, the better. I hear you've already been doing well in that regard with the last Snakecatcher."

"Uh, yeah that thing. I don't know. I made some questionable decisions."

Oster shakes his head.
"That's not how her Highness tells it."

"Really?"

"Absolutely. She was very impressed."
Is that a sour tone edging his voice there?
"I wasn't there."

"You were busy elsewhere, you can't be everywhere all at once."

He chuckles, more at himself than anything else.
"Not that I would have been able to help. His scales were quite impenetrable I hear. The same with that spirit. What would I have done there? Tried to cut the lightning? No. It's like the Children of the Master back when we first met. I couldn't cut them."

"Lucky you have me around then. I had a lot of trouble with a bunch of guards yesterday, maybe it would have been better for Hiss if you had been there instead of I."

"Maybe that's it then, isn't it mate? I'll kill the men and you stop the stranger things."

He sits down beside you, clapping you on the back painfully.

"So how DID you get the King's help?"

He smiles.
"It was a bit of an accident really. I was sitting in prison when..."

The two of you talk for another good length of time as he regales you with his tale of fighting his way out of the palace.

>>
> Go back to your room and read.

You decide to leave Oster's room and tread your way back to the cabin that has been assigned to you as an honored guest. You pull out the book that you had procured yesterday. It is wrapped in dark leather and bears the title 'Fire & Water: Mastering Alchemical Theory'.

It has no potion recipes in at all and you learn nothing about crafting anything new. But what it does contain in bulk is theory, the study of just how alchemy works once you get past the practical nature of recipes and brews.

Alchemy is both magic and not magic, a mixture of Art and craft. The base process is all about passively drawing on the magical power of the ingredients you use. Even the most insignificant herb contains some sort of alchemical property, even if it is a useless one. Anyone can use the craft side of it, borrowing power from the ingredients and the elemental power of both fire and water to create what they need.
These people are apothecaries, as you well know. They train and memorize recipes and can replicate apprentice and even journeyman brews provided they have the exact ingredients for it.

But it is upon the side of Art where the alchemist truly shines, where their own natural magic mixes in with the magic borrowed from the reagents. Nobody can learn to be a true alchemist, they must be born with it. A true alchemist can ignore either the water or the fire aspect to make cold or dry mixes respectively, a true alchemist can use anything in place of mundane ingredients if he needs to and only a true alchemist can ever make a master-tier brew.
While apprentice and journeyman brews can all be theoretically be replicated by craft and the proper ingredients and procedures, the brews of a master alchemist rely heavily on the magical potency and understanding of the one brewing them.
1/2
>>
>>39923113
I bet the constrictor would rather use hypnosis and speak with us while we're in a trance.
>>
>>39923132
2/2

To become a master, an alchemist must find an understanding of both of the forces inside themselves and the forces they invoke from their reagents with each mixture.

You continue on deeper into the book, reading about 'elemental balances' and the differing tiers of ingredient potency until your head starts to spin.
This is no dry recipe-book that can be read and immediately understood. You'll have to spend some time tackling this one. But for now, hours have passed and you feel theory'd out.

[You have unlocked the Alchemy pastebin, which is yet to be completed on account of all these pastebins taking way longer than I thought.]

Shes also definitely too good to transform into a ""lesser"" form. I assume our turning into a dragon was a bit of a complex thing in and of itself because on one hand its a lesser being pretending to be ""as good"" as a snake (also we're acting like we are too because mindfuckery), but on the other hand, Dragons are a form that has been made extinct by god himself, turned into snakes. By us transforming into a dragon, we are effectively telling god to go fuck himself and that we can be whatever the hell we want to be. Which will probably dick us over as he now has a direct reason to smite us (god forbid we discover how to permanently make people into dragons)

You wander about the ship looking for what could be loosely called your pet. The powerful magical beast that you had tamed with alchemy alone.
It's...probably not on the ship.

Your search takes you to the deck where you stand among a great many busy sailors. None of them have time for you as they guide the black ship along its lonely path but you are permitted to stand by the railing and look out upon the ocean.
You can't see any land in any direction. Are you already so far from home? You call out and smile as you hear a mimic of your cry come from the waters beside the boat as the Bunyip crests the surface. It is tireless, the Bunyip and can swim forever and has kept pace with you.

Yeah all this is possible for us. We just need a few more bunyips for breeding stock, Hiss to be a queen, and to fully understand that book we got.
Any other possible, future achievements you want to add to the list?
>>

Competent swordsman
>>
>>39926736
Wow there anon don't go crazy!

I kid. Anything else?
>>
>>39926755
not him, but 'still alive' is something that should be mentioned
>>
>>39926777
These are achievements anon, not miracles.
>>
>>39926755
I want to kill enough spirits that they eventually become afraid of us and leave us alone. At this point it's only a matter of time until one kills us
>>
>>39926835
Since spiritbane throws them into auto kill mode, I doubt we'll ever kill enough.
>>
>>39926835
We need to perfect our spirit killing techniques at least. We've gotten kinda lucky in our last two spirit encounters
>>
>>39920642

Can someone give me a quick summary about what this quest is about?
>>
>>39926969
im curious, if we wanted to shapeshift into a spirit, could it work? could we ingest some unholy combination of souldrift and shapeshifting and delayed dispel to turn into a spiritual pro-boxer whose punches remove spirits from this plane?
Really looking forward to those alchemy pastes
>>
>>39927038
Souldrift is effectively that, temporarily become a spirit.
>>
>>39927031
Snakes are magical creatures
Alchemist capture one to get wishes
Snake is snake princess running away from home
Alchemist falls for snake
They're traveling so she can get a power base knock off her father and rule the snakes and all mankind.
Alchemist is trying to temper snake's pride and temper cause she's stubborn willful and bloodthirsty all the while.
Also Alchemy is the shit, it lets you one shot spirits, tame Bunyips and other cool thing if you're good at it or can get your hands on the potion for it.
>>
>>39927080
but shapeshifting into something like a spiritual Snakecatcher, rather than the spiritual twig known as Cennen
>>
>>39927038
Souldrift, Shapshift won't but it. But souldrift lets us take spirit form for a few minutes.

>>39927141
We one shot spirits in astral form anon.
>>
>>39927141
That spiritual twin murdered a spirit with one punch. Apparently the literal essence of spirit death is a very potent weapon.

Rolling to summon ouro
>>
>>39927185
wtf the 6 and 9 together looks a bit like the image
>>
>>39927118

Sounds cool, i'll lurk the threads a bit.
>>
>>39927277
Read the archive, Be warned players are retarded. So have a drink on hand.
>>
>>39927163
I mean combine them, change our souldrifted spirit
>>39927172
pls, i doubt he was exactly a big cheese, and we had to use our own frozen, cursed soul as a club.
>>39927277
read from the archive, its a fun ride and its always better to know what you're voting for
>>
>>39927291
Yeah. Mistakes were made.
>>
>>39927291
>>39927300

Well it's /tg/, what can you expect.
>>
>>39927324
I think we've been doing fairly well since then at least
>>
>>39927298
We can't replicate shapeshift yet. So that'll be a long while.

>>39927300
One Word. Melire

>>39927324
They tried to Kiss a defensive girl with poison fangs, and poisonous spit after the mood had past.

>>39927335
Last dumb thing was the kiss.
>>
Granted, we didn't fully understand our QMs M.O. yet, it wasn't so clear he'd put us in some of the situations he did or that he would include so many double edged and/or blatant trap options. Also we underestimated hiss's idiocy.
>>
>>39927354
>still salty about the kiss
haha wow
>>
>>39927356
Hiss has been played rather consistently anon. We were just wearing waifu goggles. Very big ones. Also wish greed did not help.

>>39927436
Cost us brew time and made us part plant. We'd have been better prepared for the spirit and snake catcher if we had not kissed her. Granted we lived(which was not a foregone conclusion) But still it was a goof.
>>
>>39927354
Lets face it, the kiss wasn't THAT dumb, and this is coming from the dude who told you all not to ruin everything ever. Granted, we are now part plant because of your stupidity.
>>
>2 hours since last post
don't forget about us ouro
>>
>>39927598
Hey I voted against it anon.
>>
>>39927540
I ain't even mad about becoming part plant. Made us a bit taller and now we can probably modify treebrew potions to give ourselves other traits
>>
>>39927623
Well yeah that part was alright. Thing is we legitimately could have died then, and it cost us a lot of time regardless.

Guys I think ouro might actually be gone. Or some nasty australian critter got him
>>
>>39927965
I hope he's ok.
>>
>>39928103
as an australian, its most likely he spent the 500 MB that he spent 30 ausbucks on with those ripoff hotspots
>>
>>39928156
Fuck I really hope not
>>
>>39928247
Nah. it's more like $5 in the last year or so.
>>
Hi!
>>39928156
This bloke understands completely. If you've seen my twitter than you might know that I recently bought a shitty hotspot until my phone lines are replaced and I just burned through my connection and have been spending the last few hours trying to get it renewed.
100 bucks for 10 gigabytes, I wish I could murder someone right now.

Anyway, thanks to the guy who archived the thread while I was indisposed but I'll have to pick this up tomorrow. Sorry to all of you.
>>
>>39928923
i know that feel. as someone who payed 40 bucks a month for 200 MB until 2011 due to living far rural queensland, australian telecoms are a fucking joke
