A Great Success!

The roads back to your kingdom are surprisingly less fraught with danger as one would expect and you return home with almost no incident. However just outside your borders you come across a traveling band of bards.

"Greetings and well meet! Far we have traveled, so pardon my questioning but are you no other then the Princess Lumora of Treeline, herself?" Ask the lead bard.

>Indeed, you may bow.

>Approach the bird
>Have a cleric tend to it

You tell your personal cleric to come close and heal it as you approach it.

The cleric begins to perform her healing magics as you get close but it seems unaffected. That is until it forces itself back up and you notice the half of it's body that was on the ground is riddled with tears down to the bone, with even an eye missing.

"Squawk!" It sounds before mechanically ticking the angle of it's head towards you. "hello princess. Pardon the interruption. I wanted to have a little chat with you." Says the voice of the Lich, The King of Ivory.

You say as you personal Cleric Farahdol stands at the ready to purge it with holy light.

"Well this dying raven is merely a puppet, an instrument, a tool. You should know a thing or two about puppets right princess? You've managed to string along an entire kingdom to believing your worth following after all." He says before laughing.

"but I haven't come to speak with you to mock you. In fact in some ways I've grown to respect you. That's why I come to talk to you. I think you'll listen. I might be taken down a peg but there's still something rotten going about between your neighbors. In particular the beloved Angelic Chruch. but only after we look away, kind of hurt but also really impressed...because that was a pretty good line
>>
>>39926810
Well you know they are pretty isolationist for the most part and are currently holding a sleeping spell on a ancient red dragon that they can release at anytime to unleash it on the dwarves mountain range. Which they have frequently used as a bargaining chip against them. Other then that you know they have a powerful magical source called the Tree of Light.
>>
>>39926716
>This better be good
Angels aren't gods. They have not the foresight, intellect, or perspective that the gods have.
Angels are not to be trusted, for they are not perfect but demand that they be treated as such.
>>
>>39926716
>I'll hear you out...for now...

Mention that we already know about their stance on clerics who still pray to the gods but also we should point out to him that the Church already came by and their messenger gave us a cryptic warning before leaving.
>>
>>39926922
>>39926810
It's worth mentioning that they used the sleeping dragon to demand the Tree and quite a bit of land from the dwarves.
>>
>>39926983
They demanded land and a tree?

These are not your average tree-huggers.
>>
>>39927015
They're a bunch of rules lawyers, because technically the agreement with the dwarves for the Tree in exchange for dealing with the dragon did not explicitly state that they had to kill it.
>>
>>39927082
....I deal with legislation as part of my job, so I can't help but appreciate them for being smart....fucking elves.
>>
>>39927082
Not to mention we rarely know what they are capable of, aside of those dragon sleepy spells.
>>
>>39926983
>>39927015
I'd also like to mention that the plans from last thread to try to awaken the red dragon and use its awakening to force the elves to ally with the dwarves to kill it is pretty stupid, since the elves are the ones who put it to sleep in the first place with magic. Why won't they be able to put it to sleep again, especially since they control the most powerful source of magic on this continent?

Also, asking the Green Dragon how to kill dragons?
The Green is lazy and a NEET, not fucking retarded. It's obvious that any advice it gives could be used to kill it, and it's not stupid enough to fall for that.
>>
>>39927144
We don't want to kill the Green Dragon, though, precisely because it is lazy and NEET.
>>
>>39927144
Wait, why wouldn't the Red Dragon be mad at the Elves for knocking it out? And perhaps, more importantly, mad at them for having the audacity to use it as a bargaining chip.

Is it an ally of the Elves?
>>
>>39927204
No if anything the first thing it'd do is go burn down the elves place then go after the dwarfs
>>
>>39927225
Ah. So their biggest threat is literally a suicidal dragon bomb?

It waking up will destroy the dwarves first.
Remember the location of the red dragon's lair.

The elves are simply confident that by the time the red dragon has dug its way out of its lair and laid waste to the dwarves in the process, they can put it back to sleep again because, as said before, they control the continent's greatest source of magic.

>>39927182
We may not intend to kill it, but it's not going to want to tell us how to kill dragons for obvious reasons.

"Yeesh, no need to get uppity. Anyway, over the last few months the church has created this new policy of "re-educating" those who still worship the dead gods. However, since your brothers bounty on you has been mostly ignored, especially after providing aid against, well, me he's been trying a new tactic. Since your closest allies are the Druids of the forest he's been spending a lot of money and influence to get the church to consider Druids as heretics to.

Well as of last night he got his wish and church doctrine changed to include your tree hugging buddies as heretics. So now the church is as we speaking setting up an ambush to destroy your druid buddies with a small battalion of paladins.

All because your half brother wants to cut out one of your allies while making it look like it's all the churches doing, and he sits pretty looking innocent.

Now here's the deal, I can summon enough undead to stop the paladins before they kill the druids, making you seem neutral in the matter instead of outright attacking the church and your druids get to live another day."

That saying doesn't mean that you ally yourself with your enemy so that everyone around you becomes your sworn enemy.
That's just stupid.

We still allied ourselves with a genocidal war criminal who still wants to kill us all. When this comes back to bite us, we won't have an opportunity to betray him because everyone else will be trying to kill us.

A good success!

They're no maestro's but they are certainly better then your average bard. They end on a relaxing melody that puts you at east to get a good night sleep.

When morning comes, a ranger of yours reports that a small legion of undead came through the woods last night and killed a battalion of paladins and attacked the druids. Fortunately, he reports, that no druids got hurt.
The Paladin bodies were carried off by the undead until they left the forest in the direction of Steelgate. Besides this news, all is normal.

>Train Shilvile in swordsmanship
>10% tax law
>Send a message to the Church

You start your morning by writing up a new tax law. Taxing 10% of the wealth of the general population. Your trade adviser Basalton, becomes acting tax collector. Your kingdom is small and poor, with a population of roughly 370. You gain 300 gold a month from taxes.

You get your ink and quill and write up a message asking why there were paladins in your territory without permission, and why there was an attack of undead in the area, and wither or not they had anything to do with attracting said undead to the area.

After the message is sent you find Shilvile at the bar of the tavern by himself drinking some of the dwarven ale you had brought back from Cravenwood.

You insist he begins training to improve his swordsmanship. He insist only if you train in turn with him. Together over the course of a week you play off each other styles and both learn some new things.

With his expert training you gain:
>Expert Swordmanship
And with your help Shilvile improves beyond expert to master. Giving himself the new title of Sword Lord.
>Lose 1 bandit lord
>Gain 1 Sword Lord
>>
By the end of the week of training, you finally receive word back from the church.

How is their response?

During the weak of training they church publicly announces druidism as heresy.

"Dear Princess Lumora of Treeline

Firstly I would like to deny the accusation that our presence in your forest was what attracted the undead into your forest. True they attacked your druids as well so it's clearly not their blame. However, as you now know druids are now considered heretics by church decree, such non-holy magics are gate way to that which is un-holy.

We have jurisdiction in all the 3 kingdoms except yours for they have nothing to hide, do you? Having harbored heretics, and having undead roaming your forest, regardless wither or not they are connected, something ill is happening within your woods.

I will be sending a Holy Inquistor, to investigate this further and to "Re-educate" your druids. Should they refuse, they will be taken into custody. Should she find evidence of more undead in your forest, they shall be purged. Should you refuse him entry to anywhere he deems necessary for investigation, he shall report it back to us, and all the other kingdoms will know your hiding something.

We apologize for our intrusion without permission in our last visit. However there are more important matters then formalities, but since we are not unforgiving we will abide by them. May our Inquisitor investigate your kingdom?

Sincerely Arch Paladin Meraphim."

We will not accept this label of heresy on druids, an order which the gods themselves had accepted.
There will be no extradition, there will be no re-education.
This is blatant over-reach of the Church, and the other nations will be notified of this.

>Send letters to the Druids, Dwarves and the Elves
This is not acceptable, as the Church is obviously overstepping its bounds.
Appeal to the elves that the Church has begun to show its true colors. It consider any magic not its own to be a threat and it's only a matter of time before arcane magics, the non-holy magics, are deemed by the Church to be heresy.
Enclose a copy of the Church's response to the Elves. They can see that the Church will come after them next, since the Church included non-holy magics as a gateway to the unholy.

It is not long before the elves, quickly followed by elvish pressuring the dwarves give major greivences with the church. The inquisitor does not make it halfway to your castle before he is turned around by his superiors. With the pressure of 3 kingdoms, and not long inter conflict with the clergy, accusations of corruption and bribery flying, the church appeals church doctrine, reinstating only unholy, demonic, or necromantic magics as heresy. Several paladins are sent to serve the elves and dwarves as penance for this transgression. However, you are not sent any, and in fact you hear rumors among your citizens the following week that your kingdom has been forbidden to paladins by the church.
