Instead of being relieved that it’s only Matthias on the other side of the door, you’re left with a strange feeling of disappointment.

A look of confusion falls upon his face. He sighs heavily. “Somehow, I was expecting you to have devil horns by this point.” He shrugs.

Wait, if he made his way over here, then…

A shy pair of amber eyes peaks out from behind Mathias, and is thrilled to see that it’s not a stranger opening the door.

“Your bravery ran out after you knocked on the door, huh.” Matthias looks behind him for Aya, but she already ran toward you, and is now marveling at the new condition of your hair.

You indulge her and strike some poses, allowing your long hair to flow elegantly wherever you lead it.

She marvels at the sight, looking upon your new length with some longing.

After a few minutes of this, you catch Matthias’s gaze, and the look in his eyes is one that you recognize easily. He has something important to talk about.

You grab Aya by the hand. “Come, let’s see if we can find Izu.” You lead the two of them inside your house.

“He can’t be too far…” You look around, and as if sensing he’s needed, comes trotting out from the kitchen with great enthusiasm.

He locks his sights upon Aya, and wraps around her waist. “Welcome to my house!” He looks up at her with his bright green eyes.

Aya smiles gently and pats the boy on the head.

“I’m surprised we’re not all up in flames with how he ran up to her.” Matthias quips and catches a heated glare from Aya. “Kidding of course…”

You can tell that his heart isn’t into his jokes right now, he really must be distracted by something.

You quickly turn to Izu. “Go on and show Aya all your new things.” You suggest, to get the both of them out of earshot.

“Okay!” The boy hurries off dragging Aya upstairs.

He’s going to mess with your things.

“Don’t mess with my things!” You yell after him.

No response.

You sigh and head into the parlor room to be alone with Matthias.

You take your usual seat. “Well, nice of you to visit, but I know you didn’t come here just for that.”

He nods, but keeps his gaze focused upon his own feet. He’s quiet for a long time. Normally you wouldn’t stand for him holding you up like this.

“Do you think…” He finally starts, but then quickly stops to scratch the back of his head roughly.

You lean forward, you have a feeling this is going to be good.

He sighs and rubs his hands together. “Do you think…that Aya…ugh. That she could…get pregnant from a human?”

Oh.

You poorly keep yourself from laughing. “Oh, hell.” You smile, and continue fighting the urge to laugh. “You didn’t!?”

He groans at you asking what you already know.

“Just answer the question.” His face turns red from anger and embarrassment

You haven't the slightest idea, but this is an opportunity to screw with him like no other.

You stop laughing and pretend to become very serious.

“I actually have some findings regarding this.” You inform him as he hangs onto every single one of your words. “Aya belongs to one of the few races that this entirely possible, in fact they’re known for their high virility.”

Fear, you can practically eat his fear with how tangible it is at this moment in time.

This is too good to stop now. “She’s very likely to have more than one child at a time, with the average hanging around four at a time.” You cross your arms in a vain attempt to keep your chest from heaving with laughter. “I know of a good family planner that I can, hahhaaha!” Catching his expression of despair is the tipping point and you lose it.

His punches to your arm only serve to fuel your laughter, you clumsily fall from your chair and onto the floor. You finally recover from your fit.

You quickly stand. “Ahem, heh. I don’t actually know.” You look down at him with your first genuine look of somberness. “You wouldn’t actually leave her behind if she were pregnant, would you?”

He looks you dead in the eyes and responds without hesitation. “Of course not. I couldn’t leave her…” He peers off toward the window. “Doesn’t make it any less scary.”

You settle back down in your chair. “True, but now is the best time to have a kid since… well since a very long time.”

Those words leave a bitter taste in your mouth for numerous reasons.

>>39962073

“Yeah.” Matthias chuckles lightly. “For a moment there I was actually thinking about moving out near the lake. Must’ve been all that water that appealed to me.”

The two of you idly chat about your memories playing in the lake when you were young, and all the times you explored that derelict dam your grandfather always warned you to stay away from.

“Things are changing so quickly.” Matthias looks at you with a grin. “You especially.”

“-I’m- the same person I’ve always been.”

Not really.

“It’s you that’s changed-” You begin to respond.

Another knock at the door interrupts your light-hearted conversation. Soft, almost hesitant knocks.

You swiftly rise from your seat to not show any fear in front of Matthias. Gone are the days of peace and quiet it seems.

A timid girl stands in front of you when you open the door. Vicki, the young savant, looks around nervously everywhere, besides into your eyes.

“E-excuse me, but I was sent here by Miss Ali to formally extend you an invitation to the first meeting of the city council.” She holds out a small piece of paper. “If you’d please give your response. There’s many things I have to do.” Her gaze takes you in for a brief second but immediately looks away again.

Now, why would you ever want to a part of something like that and why would Ali ever invite you to such a thing? Does she want to stroke her own ego in front of you or something of the like? You look at the paper intently as if trying to pull reason from it.

Hello there! And yes, yes they did.

>>39962282
Since Ali seems to know so much about you, why not take some of your free time to return the favor?

You don’t take the paper yet, taking a moment to stare intently at young messenger in front of you. “Vicki, where’s Ali right now? I think I need to speak with her.”

Vicki looks back to the paper in her hand, and catches you staring her down. “S-she’ll be at the meeting.” A small breeze takes the paper from her hand, causing her to have to clumsily run after it.

After she catches it, she immediately teleports back to you, and holds the paper out to you again as if nothing happened.

You take it before something else happens.

“Thank you.” Her words barely hit your ears before she disappears from sight.

Show off.

You return to Matthias, who you find doting over Aya, as they prepare to return home.

You throw him a skeptical look as he buttons her jacket. “I guess changing is just finding out things about yourself you never knew.”

They both fuss over whether or not the top button should be clipped as well. Matthias gives up and sighs. “You’re right, unfortunately.”

“Doesn’t feel terribly foreign, does it?” You laugh as you see him envelop her hand within his, a slight smile forming on both their faces.

“We’ll be sure to come back soon.” Matthias reassures Izu as he appears to not want to let either of them leave.

They leave quickly after that, very much on both of their minds.

You unfold the paper and read the contents.

Directions to which building in the market the meeting is taking place, taking place at noon, and a small note.

>”I patiently look forward to seeing you again.” -Ali

You crumple the note in disgust.

“You didn’t tell me you were inviting an angel, mayor.” An older and regal-looking merchant bends over slightly to kiss your hand. “Pleased to meet you, I am-“

“Save it.” Ali shuts him down firmly. “There’s much on the agenda for our first meeting, and I don’t need you bothering my guest.”

You, Ali, and four other important looking men stand around a long meeting table. The room is furnished with little other than that, only a few file cabinets line the wall, and huge open windows let in quite a bit of light.

“Of course…” The man nods politely at you and turns to his seat.

“Sophia here is a consultant on the Occult.” Ali informs the others.

All of them murmur their excitement to each other.

“She was gracious enough to accept my invitation, so let’s not waste her time any further.” Ali settles in the seat at the head of the table, signaling for you to sit to the right of her.

As much as you don’t want to, you comply without missing a beat.

“First thing on the agenda.” Ali looks through her ledger. “The matter of the creatures that assaulted the market proper.”

The merchants begin to squabble about needing to hire more guards to ensure the safety of their many businesses.

Ali nods patiently, taking in all their words, with seemingly real interest, and patiently waits for them to finish.

“Seems the main concern is that no culprit or culprits were tied to the crime, leaving them free to do whatever they want.” Ali turns toward you. “Do you believe that they would strike at the market again?”

Sayuline has been off everyone’s radar since that rainy day, but you don’t doubt that she’s heard about the new state of the market and its security. You don’t know her motivations, other than Marissa telling you that she likely has something bigger planned for the future. Would she risk her plans? You ponder your answer, and whether or not you should give Ali a genuine answer.

Not specifically. I don't know what the culprit wanted, but it didn't seem like the market was the target. More like "it happened to be nearby". At the very least, the culprit is probably keeping a low profile, if they haven't already left.
>>
>>39963459

You shake your head. “No, I don’t think so.”

Ali mulls over your words for a few moments before turning back to the other council members. “I agree, but we’ll hire on thirty percent of the amount of guards suggested. We are expanding after all. For all serious concerns, I’ll deploy my own team.”

Begrudging acceptance from the other merchants, but acceptance all the same. You’re slightly surprised that Ali was willing to compromise on the matter.

“Right…” Ali checks something off from her ledger. “While we are on the matter of the Occult, the matter of this area’s guild must be addressed.”

Mostly negative and dismissive words arise from the merchants.

“Now, I know you have little experience dealing with large Occultist organizations, so you have little to base your opinions on other than rumors, but allow me this…” Ali leans back in her chair. “Most their members bring business to this market, most of them are fair in their dealings. There are bad eggs, but you’d get that with any group of people.”

“Yes, but they have the potential to be dangerous given their numbers.” A merchant speaks out. “They should take a note from your pretty friend and run solo.”

Ali is silent for a moment.

“Ninety-five percent.” Ali states simply, and pauses to the confusion of everyone else in the room. “Ninety-five percent of the guild’s children are enrolled in one of our youth programs. They’ll grow up thinking the market to be another home, and will give back to us likely the rest of our lives.” Ali slams her ledger on the table, causing everyone to jump. “Only if we treat them with the same decency as we treat everyone else!”

[1/2]
>>
>>39964151

A long silence befalls everyone now.

The merchant that greeted you earlier speaks up. “We can achieve both.” He waves off the looks of confusion. “Artificially drive up the price of blood, except of course if Sophia here needs some.” He winks at you. “Make it more worth it to buy it in small amounts, and it will fall apart from the inside, bit by bit, and we’ll still be their friend.”

Intrigued murmuring arises from the other three.

The youngest merchant speaks up. “Or we could just secretly stomp out the hierarchy and relocate the rest. We more than have the manpower to manage it.”

Wow, if you had any cares for guild, you’d be appalled. But you severed your ties long ago.

Ali broods over the arguments and turns to you once again. “Anything else to add before I come to a decision?”

Again, you’ve never cared for the guild, but the elimination of their hierarchy seems a little harsh to you. But you remember how stuck in their ways those old geezers are, so if those younger people still associated with the guild want any chance of surviving in this new world, it might be necessary.

You point to the older merchant. “You had quite a good idea, but it lacking in one place.” You turn back to Ali. “Alter the price of blood as he suggested, but also support some of the younger members to take charge in place of their current leaders. Once they’re installed, slowly bring the prices back down, making them cope and letting them know who’s ultimately in charge.”

Ali smiles deviously and turns back to her council. “You all thought that organizations were the dangerous ones around here. Keep thinking that and you’re in for quite the unpleasant surprise. It gives me the same results as my plan, only with more direct control. I’ll support it.”

The merchants cheer over the advent of their new insidious plan.

Ali flips through her ledger and sighs. “Festival preperations…We’re in for a long one gentlemen. But since it seems that we’ve wrapped up the matter pertaining to the Occult, why don’t we let Sophia here go and we’ll take a short recess before resuming again.”

Everyone rises from their seats.

The merchants are first to leave, fervently discussing something and quick to get out of earshot, but you catch a few words.

“Her name is Marissa, ridiculously expensive but worth it…”

You and Ali are left alone in the council room.

“I’d like to thank you for helping me with these matters.” She organizes a few papers into a filing cabinet. “Your second plan was especially clever.”

She’s too hard to read, always with the right words at the right times…Maybe all she really wanted was an expert opinion in the discussion.
Ali finishes and turns back to you. “I’d like to thank you with something, but I don’t think I have anything to give you at the moment, but I will repay
the favor.”

“Just keep the prices the same for Matthias.” You quickly respond.

Ali’s shoulder tense almost imperceptibly before relaxing once again. “I will do so.” She nods. “Anything else?

You shake your head and without any unneeded words, you leave the building and begin the walk back home.

~

“Did you bring me anything?” Izu beams at you with his emerald eyes.

“Get out of here with that.” You push him away by the forehead. “Did you make the bed like I asked?” You make for your room to check.

He doesn’t respond to your question, choosing to wrap his arms tightly around you in hopes to stop you.

It does little to impede your progress until he begins to squeeze at your sides, causing you to laugh involuntarily.

You struggle past the stairs. “I’m going to delve in your blood heh…IZU heheh stop!” You hardly get to finish before you caught into another laughing fit.

Finally when you make it past the entryway to your room, Izu lets go of your body.

There’s your bed, diligently and caringly made the way you like it.

You might actually kill him this time. You quickly turn around to find him, but he’s nowhere to be seen.

He knows.

The kid is like a ghost when he doesn’t want to be found, so you turn your attention new the tome you’ve been working through.

Interplanar travel can be explored, but you’re less than a day off a delve, so it would be limited to other objects or people.

Sealing is a breeze, you don’t think you’ve taken to anything other than delving so quickly. Which brings you to the other end of the spectrum with how things are going with your spatial transportation, poorly.

You immediately think back to how easily Vicki took to teleportation. If her notes didn’t indicate that she was terrible at sealing, you might be getting angry right now.

But so it is, that everyone has their strengths, you briefly consider some sort of cross tutoring with the girl.

You shake your head at the matter, you will master teleportation, it’s only a matter of time…and pain, lots and lots of pain…

Maybe one of you should check on one of your other housemates?

There is something that needs seeing to before you can really start practicing.

You stop by his room, the garden, the kitchen, and begin to think that he might not be home, until you find him outside repairing the frames around the windows.

You stand there for quite some time, simply watching him work, not having the slightest clue as to what he’s doing, but trusting that your windows will be the better for it.

Laurent startles when he realizes someone is behind him, and seems to take a slight moment to recognize that it’s actually you.

He roughly wipes his hands on a nearby rag. “Umm, something you need? I’ve been working around the house on whatever needs fixing…like you said.”

You shake your head. “Nothing that I need. I just wanted to talk to you about something.”

Figure out why he’s been acting so strange lately.

He looks around as if searching for an excuse before sighing heavily. “Alright. About time I took a break, I think.”

The two of you sit on your porch, with him subconsciously placing as much space in between the two of you as possible.

No sense in beating around the bush.
>>
>>39966767

“What’s been troubling you? And don’t tell me that it’s nothing.” You quickly add as he was just about to do so.

He looks down at his raw hands for a long time before finally speaking. “You remember when we first met?” He looks toward the neighborhood. “You were so weak that you could hardly defend yourself against a single vagabond.”

That encounter was not your proudest moment.

“And those things that Manolo sent after you.” He shakes his head. “They might’ve killed you.”

Again, he likes to bring up shameful things from your past.

He continues. “But now, I hardly recognize you anymore. Literally.” He rubs his chin. “I uh, had a hard time coming to terms with what you became. But I did, but I guess umm…” He sighs impatiently and gets up in a hurry. “Forget what I said, I just have a lot on my mind with all the things that’s been happening. That’s all.”

Ah, you think you’ve finally deduced what’s been bothering him for so long. He’s been feeling unneeded, irrelevant. Which is actually becoming truer and truer the stronger you become.

Damn, quite the problem.

You’re certainly not going to stop getting stronger any time soon, and Laurent lacks the subtlety to be sent on the same kind of tasks Marissa is sent on. But it helps to keep him around for the grunt work that comes up every now and then.

Well, at least now you know that he doesn’t hate what you’ve become, directly. He only hates the results.

I'm pretty sure she's used it with either no invocation, or short enough of one that the timing is negligible. We have no basis for believing we can counter it, and as for immolating the user, it appears to be a who shoots first scenario where we're both armed with deadly weapons that can kill the other. I think hers travels significantly faster than our flames though, to the point that she can teleport away from our attacks, but we are less likely to be able to do the same for her attacks.
>>
>>39967133
Except you know, we can seal her with a wave of our hand.
>>
>>39967146
What makes you think she can't do the same to us, or even unseal herself?

Your house still needs extensive repairs, so you’re not about to lose the only person capable of doing anything about it.

“Listen up!” You quickly call after him.

He stops and turns slightly, but still doesn’t look directly at you.

You continue. “I’m only going to say this once. I still need you Laurent.”

You’re not going to say for what exactly, but it’s not a lie.

“Ellie can be a handful with how much her head is in the clouds, Izu is only a child, and Marissa can be much more than a handful at times. But you Laurent, I can depend on you because you’re grounded, which helps keep me grounded.” You approach him."I might not be alive it wasn't for you."

You let your words sink into him for a moment.

“Things change, they’re bound to. But despite what you might think Laurent, you still help me and –I- still need you.” You punch him lightly in the arm.

“So don’t you dare think about leaving me any time soon or making me have to tell you this sort of thing again.” You fold your turn around in mock embarrassment.

That ought to have sold it.

“I-I-I work, uh have, I have work to do…” He speeds off in embarrassment, but not before you catch the intense redness of his ears.

You lightly swirl your cloak in victory. So much to do, and the day is still young…

Well for one our natural magic quotient blows hers away, two she sucks at sealing hard, three unsealing something requires you being able to put forth effort, Kinda hard while sealed.

Thanks for running Auri! Inviso cannons require a delve chant right?

thx 4 runin budi gud thred

could we rek Vicki 1v1 no items final destination?

Yeah yeah, I know you can't answer that. A more serious question(s), does our new form and internal energy give us any defense? How does Sophia feel about those invisocannons? If she were to get hit by one what does she think would happen, would her internal energy protect her or complete obliteration like what happened to that one hunter?
>>
>>39967248
You're very welcome! If you're referring to what Vicki did when you first met her, then yes, it requires an incantation. Teleportation doesn't.
>>39967258
You're also very welcome! And I'm very glad you liked this thread.
>>39967287
You're very welcome! She mains fox, so no.
Sophia feels relative unconcerned about Vicki, whether or not your true form provides a type of protection remains to be seen since you've yet to be seriously hit in that form. Supposing that she got hit by what Vicki did to that one hunter, the results would depend on the caster. The intent of the spell is to send the object whole. But ultimately, it would be best not to get into a situation where someone can cast something like that on you.

This was certainly one of the most active runs, I like it.
>>
I'll be stepping out now. I had a lot of fun tonight, so until next time!
>>39967438
I liked it very much as well.

Is it just me or has the Mc's character changed from a snarky slightly lewd person to a borderline megalomaniac manipulative bitch?
>>
>>39967458
Power changes people I guess The lewd thing changed because people stopped suggesting it.
>>
>>39967476
The lewd change is fine, the rest is worrisome
>>
>>39967488
Yeah kinda reminds about what ali said about roles and other such stuff
>>
>>39967532
Hence the worry
>>
>>39967458
>borderline megalomaniac manipulative bitch
That's just players being /tg/. No worries here
>>
>>39967843
Thing is we haven't been playing like that til recently and she's been acting like it well before then.
>>
>>39967875
That's because we had a really small playerbase. This quest isn't usually bustling with playeres, more so at the start of the quest.

>“Her name is Marissa, ridiculously expensive but worth it…”
.....can we at least tell Marissa how absolutely retarded it was to give her real name out? Her shadow powers don't work if she isn't there to use it on the people who hear of her!
>>
>>39969298
>Her shadow powers don't work if she isn't there to use it on the people who hear of her!
What?
>>
>>39969429
>customer spreads word of Marissa
>someone with a brain hears it
>Can connect the dots
>Marissa isn't there to charm him/her
>>
>>39969522
How would they connect the dots?
At mkst they would learn about a very well known
Uh
The thingy. Whatever that was.
