Welcome to Academy City. The time is late night, the weather is chilling, and the date is January 7.

You are Kyril Torikov and you were slightly shaken. Tonight had been a harrowing experience. You had an inkling it would be. It had all started out so smoothly after all. The food was good, the music was pleasant and the dancing was fun. You even charmed the American Ambassador’s daughter and used her to your advantage. All in all, it was just an average night in the name of international espionage. How all that managed to culminate in a desperate struggle to contain a grey goo scenario was beyond you. It was a question worth asking but you were trying to get your breathing under control.

The corridor was slowly flooding with the goo in question. There had been four of you at the start. They were the embassy’s Marines. One was used up in the distraction. The sergeant stayed behind to secure the rear. Now it was down to you and one injured private with enough fingers to form a hand. On you were a tank of gas and several canisters of nanomachine counteragent, in your hands was a flamethrower. Fuel was running out as you had to burn your way forward. For now, the corridors were navigable. Who knew how long that would last? Jenkins was slowing you down but he was also your guide. The marine on distraction duty was still out there, if the sounds of distant fighting could be of any consolation. There weren’t many options at this point, you wanted out so you had to,

>Leave Jenkins behind
>Find the other Marine
>Stay the course

Through the helmet you tried your best to pinpoint the best way towards the sound of fighting. If it wasn’t your errant Marine then at least it was near one of the ways out. Jenkins wasn’t arguing as you led him down the halls. As the normally featureless underground tunnel became even more featureless grey, it was getting harder to tell the direction in which you were headed.

You found your distraction, Ramirez, conducting a grim last stand at the end of the hall. It was a room where interviews were conducted. In his hands was a shotgun, several bandoliers of ammunition hung from his body. He was calmly discharging incendiary shots in to the approaching goo despite the damage to his uniform. The look on his face was quiet relief as he continued holding the line. It wasn’t much given that you had backed yourself in to a corner. Now that the goo’s attention was no longer split, it was building up faster than ever.

“I don’t suppose you have a way out of here?” you asked.

He simply pointed further in the room. There was another tank of gas and some plastic explosives. It was hardly worth the trip to find him in your opinion.

“Jenkins, how deep are we in you reckon?” you eyed the explosives.

“Blast our way out? Not a bad idea tin man but if we’re out, we’re out,” he replied, “I’m not sure if we can blow a hole in the ceiling but it should be enough to create a shortcut.”

You started refuelling your flamethrower as he approached the explosives.

“We’re in interrogation room C, I won’t ask how Ramirez got this but it should be enough to blast a few walls down though I’m not sure if we’ll live long enough to rig this all up. That and we have no cover really.”

You looked down the corridor. It was filling up fast and even Ramirez shook his head as he emptied his shotgun once again.

“The corridors are a no go Jenkins, we’re going up.”

The injured Marine could only nod before rigging up the explosives.

“What about the blast wave?”

“You let me worry about that, just get it set up.”

“Alright, we’re set.”

“Step in to the hall, and pray that I can shield you.”

You stood in the door as the fuse went off. It was a contained explosion and there was only one way out of the room. Fortunately, your personal shield held, losing only 30% from the total of 70% you had.

“Holy shit, I knew you were tough tin man but that was enough to bring down the whole building.”

You stepped up to the hole in the ceiling.

“We’re going to need another one, come, let give you a lift.”

The Marine didn’t waste any time as you hoisted him up. Another round of explosions, though notably more muted, later and you could see the night sky above. It took only a moment before the face of another Marine showed up as they tried to get you out. There was no need honestly. You picked up both Marines and threw them up the hole yourself before leaping out. With your task completed all that was left was to get paid. That said, you were curious as to how the situation came about in the first place. Maybe you should ask,

“Well done son, the day is saved,” the Ambassador said.

“I’m sure it is sir,” you replied, “It brings to mind a few questions however.”

While he didn’t outright grimace the older man shifted in place. He looked up. Overhead, the sound of a helicopter’s rotors drowned out conversation that wasn’t conducted face to face. Ambassador Polendina then nodded, as if telling you to go on.

“I’m just curious sir. You’re a diplomat and everything, there’s not much I could do to you,” you continued, “I’m just wondering about the means you came to possess such a dangerous gift in the first place.”

“I didn’t get it from a second-hand yard sale if that’s what you’re asking,” he smiled, “More of a private auction. This may be a City of Science but money makes the world go round.”

“Of course.”

“Now if you’re interested in such things I may give you a way in,” he explained, “It’s rather exclusive and since I’m due back in States in oh, a few day. It would be a damn shame if I were to lose my membership card.”

“I suppose it would,” you agreed.

“Of course such a thing does come at a bit of a cost. You see, I find it mighty suspicious that my personally secured vault was opened without my knowledge of it being so. Only a few could have gotten in. You wouldn’t know anything about that now would you son?”

“Perhaps, but if your security was that lax then perhaps I may have to report on your,” you paused to find the right word, “Negligence? Indiscretion?”

“You drive a hard bargain son,” he rubbed his chin, “So let me be clear, you tell me who, or how, someone would have gotten in and I’ll see to it get a lead to follow. Otherwise we could just pretend this conversation never happened.”

“Oh I have a few theories of my own, but nothing concrete,” you told him, “I find it highly suspicious that a mutual acquaintance of Lupin IV was on your guest list yet you did nothing about it.”

“Well there’s the rub,” he smirked, “I invited her because she is the owner of the auction in question.”

You sighed. So much for trying to shift the blame.

“Then I suppose we couldn’t hear each other properly.”

“Say again?”

“I said, have a good night sir.”

“You too, son, you too.”

The two of you parted.

The time is now late morning, the weather is cool, and the date is now January 8.

While Asuka was rather tight-lipped about what happened with the Ambassador’s wife, you suppose that it wasn’t important. You all got out okay and even prevented a potential disaster. All that was left was to go over the kind of intelligence you stole from the Americans. Then you had to bring the juiciest bits to Lady Junko and get paid. Other than that your day was kind of free. Classes had resumed today so Asuka would be unavailable until evening. Maybe you could check in with Sagara and Kyousuke. Then again you weren’t surprised that Nayuta had sent you a message, asking for a report on the near-disaster of last night. Paperwork wasn’t quite your speed though so you were probably going to have to just go see her first.

It was just a matter of who you decided to see,

Well you wanted to get paid after the last job fell through. There was nothing wrong with a bit of money to pad out that off shore account. Kyousuke could also do with a little cash injection himself, if his plight was anything to go by. First though you had to sift through all the loot. Most of it was boring reports, diplomatic cables that didn’t really have any value to you personally. Hopefully Lady Kudou could make something out of it. The real interesting stuff was when you got to the drafts of the documents that were to be for the replacement ambassador. Good old Uncle Sam was planning on making overtures on the stray enclaves of Code M within School District 10. It was why they were bringing in the replacement in the first place. You were sure that information was not just interesting for Lady Kudou.

There were also dossiers of the two Code M at last night’s dinner. The reason it didn’t stand out to you was because most intelligence agencies were not trained to deal with Code M. You were sure the Lady London would know more.

“In fact, I do.”

The time is now lunch, the weather is heated, and the date remains unchanged.

Lady Kudou sat across the table, leafing through the papers like she grading them.

“They’re like Shamu-nii, real pros,” she explained, “The New World magicians are always an odd bunch so I can’t say I can tell you for free.”

You had expected that really.

“How much are we talking about here?”

“This for that.”

She held up the sum of your loot. That was a lot of money for information on two people. You also weren’t sure if you could make a profit out of it later.

“How about I offer you a front row seat at the wedding instead?”

“Oh silly Billy, the parents always get front row seats,” she replied amused.

“I have a pretty big family,” you grumbled.

“On your side maybe, but it’s just me, Shamu-nii, and Tomo-kun for Asuka-chan.”

Well, it wasn’t that important anyway. One was committed to academia whilst the other was contracted to Uncle Sam. With the current climate, both of them weren’t enemies unless something drastic happened. In fact, the more immediate danger, in terms of Code M, were probably the ones in School District 10.

“Interesting,” Lady Kudou remarked, “The Americans are already moving on them huh?”

“You mean the Code M in School District 10.”

“Yeah, I mean I suppose there were bound to be some like them eventually,” she looked at you, “Are you going to do anything about them?”

“I haven’t decided yet, and it’s the last day of vacation,” you shrugged, “Why, are they really that dangerous?”

“Tomo-kun would describe them as,” she struggled to recall, “Oh that’s right, ‘political dissidents.’ That’s what he called them.”

It was nice to see that the enemy was also divided but that didn’t really mean much in the long run. They still had to be dealt with, by your hands or otherwise.

“I’m not paying you to get rid of them though,” she clarified, “The Anglicans have enough problems on their plate.”

“No bounty then?”

“The Catholics like to say the slaying of a heretic is its own rewards. Then again, some sects of Islam say that too.”

Lunch devolved in to meaningless chatter at that point. Personally, you were now five million JPY richer. The total payday had been split between the four contributors. Before you left you,

The time is now afternoon, the weather is dizzying, and the date remains unchanged.

As much fun as to have tea and simply chat with Lady Kudou, you thought of better things to do with your time. For example you had friends you could be playing games with. Thus politely excused, you found yourself in a small internet café called Splinter Cell. Kyousuke, Sagara and Last Order were playing that space mining MMO again.

“So let me get this straight, you just straight up bought this place?” you asked as you arrived.

“What’s the point of money if I don’t spend it?” Sagara answered, “You’ll be amazed how easy it is to handle everything through a lawyer anyway.”

“They have two Titans?” Kyousuke squawked from his monitor.

“Misaka wanted to spice things up a bit, says Misaka says Misaka as she relishes the upcoming gratuitous space battle.”

“So wanna join us Kyril? Could always use another fleet commander?”

“Just how many of you are playing again?”

“Probably a third of the Sisters.”

“3042 says Misaka says Misaka to be specific.”

Why not, you thought and sat down as another client opened up.

“By the way, I hope you enjoyed the money, compliments of the Lady London,” you said to Kyousuke.

“That I do man, that I do,” was his reply, “You can’t believe how expensive rent is when it isn’t being paid for you.”

“You’re a Level 0, you weren’t being paid much to begin with,” Sagara added.

“True, and if we keep this up, soon I’ll have no idea what to do with the money. I’m a simple guy really, I like music, I like games, but I don’t think they’ll be the rest of my life you know?”

“Thinking that far ahead already?” you asked in turn.

“Well if I don’t plan on retiring I don’t think I’ll ever get out of the game,” he argued, “We can’t do this forever.”

“Yeah, it’ll get boring after a while,” Sagara said, “And a lot of this stuff is way more trouble than it’s worth. No wonder Toulour handed everything over to me so quickly.”

[1/2]
>>
>>39978694
“Speaking of trouble, what about that chick who stole all our cash?”

“Can’t seem to find a damn thing about her,” Sagara sighed, “She’s like a fucking ghost and if you believe it, she named herself after the director of the NSA, Anna Grimsdotter. Was thinking of following up on that but then again…”

He gestured to the video game you all were playing.

“That and we may have a Code M infestation in the tenth,” you continued.

“Damn, you should probably tell Kyouko.”

“You’re right, but first, space battles,” you agreed.

Much podding later, you and Kyousuke were on your way to the Slumlord’s new office. Apparently, Kyouko had run afoul of the vigilante before. The encounter had prompted the need to relocate. That and she started delegating way more.

“She’s not turning paranoid on us is she?” you asked.

“Not really, more like she’s taking the whole Slumlord thing more seriously now,” he answered, “She said she wants to be more approachable, ‘hold court,’ and make time for her ‘subjects.’ You know, I think Grímsdóttir’s gotten to her man.”

“Then it’s a good thing it we aren’t here to talk to Kyouko about her.”

Kyousuke only nodded. The new building still looked shabby compared to the rest of the City but the interior was something else. It was nice and clean for one. She even had a secretary. That said secretary was more muscle-brained thug than proper eye candy was beside the point. Though, if you considered it from her perspective, he probably was eye candy for her. The thought did not bear repeating. Atop an iron throne sat Kyouko, an apple in one hand and a sheaf of paper in another. As soon as she spotted you, she tossed it aside and greeted you,

“’Sup Pops.”

You had a feeling she was glad for the distraction. The lower half of your helmet retracted as you replied,

“It’s been a good day so far. I just got paid.”

You smiled.

“Oh, here to make a donation?”

The smile grew.

“Has anyone ever told you that I never run charities? And I ain’t your sugar daddy.”

“Figures,” she mockingly pouted, “what d’ya want now?”

“Friendly visit,” now she frowned for real, “Honest.”

“I get that Kuso’s in school but I know I ain’t as easy as she is.”

Kyousuke chuckled.

“Look I just wanted to tell you that we may have some Code M in district and I was,”

“You mean ‘have legitimacy,’” Kyousuke interrupted.

“Yeah that, whatever. If you’re so damn smart I’ll pay you to do that shit, what d’ya say?”

“I’m not cheap,” he answered.

“Not the first time I owed someone money,” she waved him off, “as long as you do the work.”

“Alright,” she turned to you, “Now you said something about some Code M.”

“Yeah we have two whole colonies here,” you recited from memory, “One of them is from Europe. The other one is from somewhere in America. First is bigger, the other is better. Not sure which of them we can hit first since it will take some time to find them.”

“How come I ain’t heard of either of them?”

“They’re too busy trying to kill each other to bother with you. Pretty sure if we take one out, the other one is going to gun straight for. And if you think that’s dumb, the Americans want to play nice with them.”

“Wow, I feel so international now,” she laughed, “Not bad for just a Slumlord am I right?”

“Better than I could have done,” Kyousuke interjected.

“Yeah, well cleaning up the district ain’t my first choice either but hey, these kids here they don’t care about asshole sitting at a desk somewhere telling them what to do. Instead they’re making me do it since everyone ‘round here knows me.”

“For better or for worse,” you joked.

The time is now sunset, the weather is chilly, and the date remains unchanged.

It had taken most of the afternoon, and both of you had to get takeout. Well it was more like Kyouko got some thugs to get her some food. She even paid them. Then she shared some with you since the thugs had reasoned that the silent robot man didn’t need to eat. It was obvious in hindsight. There was only one building in the whole district that vaguely looked like a church. Now that there was a proper cross out in front, it might as well be.

“Ya know, I shouda known better than to let a church be set up here. Nothing good ever comes outta them.”

“Spoken from experience?” you asked.

She remained silent. Dismissing the question, you kicked down the door surprising the congregation within. They were all middle school girls inside. All of them wore a dark habit. It seems you were here to exterminate a nest of nuns. That surprise soon turned to grim determination. No doubt they knew the Slumlord in some way or another but even they recognised the supposed Code M boogieman that you were.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you VERDICT.”

Another voice rang out. Dropping down from the rafters was a hooded, masked figure. The voice was undoubtedly female. It wasn’t one you recognised however.

“Grímsdóttir,” Kyouko growled.

You are Kamijou Touma and you weren’t feeling very fortunate at all. Your life was never one without some misfortune but some days you think you may have offended a higher power. It was a bad enough you got in to a fight with Biribiri’s literally evil clone but then you had the sense to follow Kyril in to danger. To be fair he was trying to help rescue Shutaura. You remembered the few times you teamed up with him. The first time ended in massive property damage, the second ended up in third degree burns. Otherwise he would try and get you drunk. To what end you did not know. It didn’t help that the bastard set you up. Especially when you told him you would be giving him what for if he did, he still set you up.

Unfortunately, justified fisticuffs would have to wait for now. There had to be a quantifiable amount of awkwardness at present. You had woken up on a couch at Torikov-san’s place. Yes, you had fallen asleep at Kyril’s mother’s apartment. Not only that, your ex-girlfriend was in the shower. You had brought home two unconscious girls, one you didn’t even have a name for, and now Kyril had brought the matter to light. Now all their attention was on you. His mug was looking mightily sluggable now. While the conversation carried on, you couldn’t help but wonder what the deal with the girls were. You were more concerned with evacuating the hotel but it looked like the two were there for their own reasons. That they chose to fight as the building fell apart around them was telling. You, along with Torikov-san, were going to start with,

Torikov-san was a very scary lady because as luck would have it, the two of them woke up at the same time. They recognised each other with a start and spells would have gone flying if they hadn’t registered the blood red coils wrapped around their limbs in a vaguely suggestive manner. As much as you appreciated that a fight wasn’t going to break out, you were worried that it would tax Torikov-san. Her face was paler than usual and she breathed slowly. Slitting one’s own wrist was not a very healthy thing to do, especially when you’ve done it before multiple times.

“Now, we’re going to discuss this like mature young men and women alright?” Torikov-san asked in that threatening but also sweet voice of hers.

Her voice wasn’t that hoarse yet. Hopefully it wouldn’t be.

“Now, we’re going to start with you,” she gestured to the chocolate bombshell, “What is your name girl?”

“X-x-xochitl,” the girl stammered out.

“Good, and while I am somewhat familiar with nuns I do not believe I am familiar with your cabal, or sect, whatever it may be.”

It wasn’t a question and while the bloody tentacles relaxed momentarily, it’s continued constriction drove the point home. Wait that name sounded vaguely Mesoamerican. You had a run in with one once before around the end of summer.

“Wait, do you know a guy name Etzali?” you asked.

She gave you a good look from head to toe.

“We were sent here to kill that traitor,” she finally admitted, “You will tell me where he is.”

Torikov-san turned to you.

“They’re Aztecs, I think,” you rubbed the back of your head, “I honestly don’t know where he is, but he’s probably hiding from you.”

“Of course, he couldn’t even kill one,” she paused before falling back in to silence again.

Alright,
>”So Agnese, what’s your story?”
>”I guess I’ll leave you to the Witch of Karelia.”

>”So Agnese, what’s your story?”

You assumed then that they were some kind of expedition, or punitive taskforce. Whatever, there couldn’t be that many of them. You even had a good idea of where they were hiding, and since you knew Agnese, why the two were fighting. Obviously mages outside of their own little groups tended to not get along with each other. You had seen it before so it wasn’t all that surprising. Thus their presence at the hotel was no doubt due to Shutaura. She too was involved in the world of magic, both as a player and a victim. They were no doubt there to secure her and further whatever advantage their shadow war needed. All that was supposition of course, merely hypothetical, so you turned to Agnese and asked her,

“So what’s your story Agnese?”

“Che,” she clicked her tongue, “If only I didn’t owe you for that steamy night in Venice.”

Torikov-san looked at you questioningly.

“Just, answer the question,” you sighed.

“We’re refugees I guess,” she answered, “We didn’t ask for this war, we didn’t agree to it but when the Pope himself declared a crusade. Well, I guess it’s just our bad luck to be caught in a conflict of interests.”

“So you chose to hide out here, of all places?”

“Safest place bar none,” she smiled smugly, “And would have bet you the maiden, Our Lady Orsola that it was until they showed up.”

She gestured towards the Xochitl as best she could.

“So what exactly are you fighting over?” Torikov-san finally.

“Survival.” “Survival.”

They answered simultaneously then looked at each other.

“We cannot allow the Roman Catholics to know that we are here.”

“And neither can we.”

“This is so stupid,” you sighed.

That’s it you were,

>going to help broker peace

>going to help broker peace

sounds like the Touma thing to do
>>
“Alright, you two are going to kiss, and make up, and then we’re going to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” you told them.

Silently in your heart you hoped that they would make out too.

After that of course, you were going to have to something about Kyril. It was in his job to deal with magicians like them. If you were going to resolve this dispute in any way you were going to have to do it fast. There was only two days at best, so no pressure there. Of course by the time you caught up with him he was busy preparing himself for a fancy dinner date at the American embassy. He wasn’t home and you were admittedly running a bit blind since you couldn’t just ask his little sister to spy on him. She refused, citing your lack of skill at videogames. And you didn’t really have the money to afford her services. Man that was a real dirty thought to contemplate. Torikov-san was fully confident that you were capable of resolving it all on your own. You couldn’t disappoint her.

What did disappoint you was that by the time you were on his heels it looked like he was going to take matters in to his own hands. He wasn’t alone. If his performance against Biribiri’s evil clone was any indication then he was going to have powerful allies. You just hoped you were not too late. If you were, you were still going to punch him in his fucking face.

Interlude end.

Two words. A sentence goes here. A question goes here? When writefag and /tg/ meet, the story begins.
Questions? Comments? I’m available for the next few hours. My AoE2HD multiplayer game is still paused.

Oh there were follow up questions? Still, we're only in January, we have at least a month to go before any Valentines or dare I say it, White Day shenanigans will befall Kyril.

Has Kyril gotten to 2nd base with Asuka yet?

I know, just food for thought.

Oh boy. Kyril and touma. Bro fisting each others faces. Though funny enough I would honestly rate Kyril as one of the worst match ups for Touma. He can do a kind of accel style toss in full combat and he isn't a slouch at gun combat.
>>
>>39984041
Kyril would become a rag doll if Touma punched him though
>>
>>39984088
Depends. Only so long as he grips him.

Be pretty hard to get that close. Depending on the where. Might need to go into aggressive Cadme though. In order to keep him away.

Most of January 7th was skipped over. Make of that what you will. I'm too busy trying to finish Kaoru's interlewd without death through dehydration. Then I still have that threesome to write. Mmmmm.
