Tahenohan has been pretty blunt in judging New Royo's mayor, but you cannot quite say that she was wrong, he hasn't been exceedingly helpful. Fortunately you have secured a place for Bryld to stay where she can work on her mapmaking magic (it's not actual magic as far as you know, but you can never be sure) and she should be able to produce something interesting to show the Duke in a couple days.

You also still have the census to give him, by the way. Both jobs, once completed and accounted for, should net you a bit of money that would make you quite comfortable in the immediate future. Not long-term safety, of course, you doubt your compensation is going to be this lavish but it's going to be way more than you've earned in your latest years.

Which reminds you, you still have no idea who the new Marquise is, but you suspect he or she is going to be found in Maner, up ahead to the North. Hopefully, the situation is going to be a lot safer than you've heard before, although the royal army has supposedly accumulated nothing but successes in the Reconquista campaign, at least up to date, and there's supposed to be very strong people up there.

Right now, however, you're in New Royo, a village that is still being built which is halfway between Reboldeux and Maner, with a caravansary helping new settlers and especially merchants to get acquainted with this continent's still developing economy.

Which makes you wonder: is the money you're going to earn of any use out in the frontier?

"Hey Lillith", Tahenohan asks, snapping you out of your train of thought, her manic smile always a welcome sight, "What do you want to do today?".

As a matter of fact, you have time until tonight before you’re bound to leave with Astreya to go and see Susanna and the others. Which means...

"Would you mind checking out the caravansary again?", you ask Tahenohan. Unfortunately, frontier places have little to offer in terms of entertainment and such, meaning you can't exactly take her out for dinner or something. Not that you'd have much money to pay with anyways, not yet.

"Yeah!", good thing it doesn't take much to get her excited about something, "Let's! It was a nice, lively place! I wonder if we'll meet some interesting people again".

That's right, you met a weird girl with a very visible cloak and a strange sword at her side, and that could nonetheless disappear from plain sight without much effort. Maybe you'll see her again, or meet someone else, who knows. It sure wouldn't be the first time you meet strange yet interesting people in your travels.

You wonder if it has something to do with you being weird and only attracting weird people in turn or if it's just a mere coincidence. You sure have a higher than usual chance of getting in touch with monsters of all kind due to your peculiar divine connection with the ancient mother goddess, maybe this contributes.

The caravansary isn't too far away and it's still morning, if you travel at a decent enough pace you should be able to go there, hang out for quite a while, maybe even dine early and be back at New Royo in time for Astreya to take you away to the East, past the lake.

"Say, Lillith", Tahenohan tilts her head, grinning widely, “What do you want to do after this job?”.

“Well, we’ll have to go meet the Marquise and-”.

“No no no”, she shakes her head. Of course it can’t be that simple, “I mean what are you going to do with your life?”.

“That is... A tall question”, you blink. It’s not something that has an immediate answer.

“I know”, she smiles, “But aren’t you here to start over?”.

>”Yes”.

>>"Maybe?"

"Yeah", you give her a knowing smile, "That's my quest isn't it?".

"Your quest?", her manic smile accompanies your trek outside town. This village doesn't even have anything approaching walls, or an identifiable border, it's barely a motley collection of wooden huts and temporary houses, "You mean your divine quest?".

"Well, I've been focusing on the short term a lot. It's been good to establish myself, this is still a point towards starting over isn't it?".

"I suppose", her smile is as sincere as it is manic for a moment, "I've started over, so to say, plenty enough of times. I ask because I find the idea fascinating, to me it doesn't really make much sense to have an idea of starting over at all. Isn't every day a different one? Or do you feel like it's important to put a full stop at a certain point and, like...", she makes sone weird gestures as her tongue meanders to find the appropriate word, "You know what I mean".

"I... Think", you can never be sure with a half-elf, "Do you enjoy being free and living every day like it's different from the previous?".

"It's not a matter of enjoying, it's just how it is", she tilts her head a little as she stares at you, "Though I guess that's my elven blood speaking. Maybe your demon blood doesn't find the prospect of settling down alien and hard to focus on".

"Not particularly", you must admit. Your demon blood hasn’t really influenced your thoughts much, at least not that you know of. Tahenohan did previously mention that she has a certain wanderlust and wouldn’t stick around much, though “not much” must be a few decades in elven minds.

"But will you? That's the question", and she stares straight at your eyes, curiosity sparkling inside of hers.

>”I plan to settle down in the Shadow Marches after all”.
>”I don’t think I’m settling down, no”.
>”It’s too early to decide”.

"I'm not that old", you joke, smirking back at Tahenohan. There is still not much of a road, meaning you have to follow the vague trail of pressed grass caused from several dozen feet and caravan wheels passing through; you can also spy the faint trail of smoke coming from a very distant chimney, far to the South-South-West. cooking fires, you suppose. "I also don't have children or anything, I'm not really in a hurry to find a home and settle down".

"Thought so", the half-elf grins, her gait perkier than usual.

"I would entertain that thought if I had someone else to settle with. There's not much holding me down at the moment", you admit, you've never been in such a serious, life-defining relationship. Not yet at the very least. "I guess this could change if there was someone special".

"And is there?", she asks with a way too interested look.

"I wonder", you smile back at her, "How about you?".

"Eeeeeeeh I don't know, I don't think I will ever settle", she answers, honestly and a bit bluntly, with with sincerity clearly prevailing in her intentions, "It's probably the elven blood, or maybe being a magic-user, which kind of weirds you out a lot. I don't think I'm meant to settle down at all, I would feel strange".

"You don't have to settle the same way everyone else does", you're not sure about magic users, most of what you know about them are stories, but it's pretty well-known that they tend to be... Strange. Not elf-level strange but, well, Astreya alone is quite telling in this regard. Which is a good example, "Look at Astreya: she's kind of settled down despite being a demonologist. Of course she's a bit in the sidelines if you look at the town layout, but...".

And Tahenohan just laughs, "I get what you mean", she chuckles again, "Thank you".

>”No, thank you”.
>”Do magic-users find it difficult to settle?”.

"Thank you? What for?", you ask with a confused smile.

"For being you", she answers with a sincere smile.

Unsure on how to answer, you decide to change topic for the time being. "What makes it so difficult for magic-users to settle down?", you wonder. You can understand the elven blood, but you haven't had much experience with magic in general.

"I'm not sure it's one thing in particular", Tahenohan wonders, as if she asked herself this very question for the first time, "I think it's partly because people don't know what to expect of you, and partly because, well, magic is a very attention-intensive craft, and you tend to want to do more with it, which requires getting involved in things that most people consider strange. Such as unearthing buried corpses".

You can very easily see how this can be a problem, yes. You guess you don't always find skeletons that are already conveniently animated and walking around waiting to be brought under your control.

"How strong is your wanderlust, anyways?", you ask, "Would it prevent you from settling down for a special someone?".

"I wonder how much of this question is idle curiosity", she grins, then laughs woleheartily, "Don't worry! I already told you, I'd stick around if we have children, and I'm not eager to abandon you anyways. You don't happen to find people this fun just around every corner you know". She then sighs, staring wistfully at the horizon but with a smile still strong and manic on her lips, “It’s not just wanderlust. It’s... I find it difficult to being tied to a place. It feels limiting, restricting, maybe it’s because I’ve been with a full-blooded elf for a while, and it showed me that the whole world is your stage, and settling down is for when you’re short-lived”.

Sudden disappearance of one or the other, pre-planned separation years ahead, ???
>>
"Would you stick around even if we don't have children?".

"Yes", she giggles, "Don't feel obligated to knock me up just to keep me around".

"Oh, alright then", and you pull up your trousers with (mostly) feigned relief, as if you were thinking about doing it right there and now, "Anyways, How long do you expect to live?".

"I don't know for sure. Nobody does", she shrugs, "But I guess I have at least a few centuries ahead of me. Between three and four according to my elf friend. Assuming nothing else befalls me in the meantime, of course".

Three to four centuries. That's a lot of time, Prontera might not even be a kingdom any more in that much time, and who knows how much the rest of the world could change, too, "I suppose that makes me short-lived in comparison".

"You really shouldn't think about it", she says that with a smile but she sounds dead serious, "Being afraid of dying will prevent you from living".

"I'll take that advice, you seem to have some experience in the matter, what with your magical arts and all", you smile, trying to defuse even the vaguest hint of tension, "By the way, has necromancy ever made you feel... Lonely?".

"Hell no", she smiles brightly, "It's like asking a hunter if he wants to change job because he feels lonely. When you have a passion to fill your life with, you never feel like you're doing something wrong. And besides, you'd be surprised at how many interesting people you can meet thanks to necromancy".

You're not sure what she means with that, but the possibilities are blood-curling. Reason for which you decide to change the topic again, “Say, if I didn’t want to settle down, would I be able to follow you around?”.

Tahenohan looks up at you, her smile unconsciously on, but regarding you with an uncannily serious look, “Only if you really wanted to”.

“Besides, how did you part with the elf you’ve travelled with? Did you plan years ahead and-”.

“Oh no”, she shrugs, “He just up and left”.

I'm not sure Lillith could handle that sudden a separation at least...

You blink. That was sudden. "Wait, he just...".

"Yeah", she blinks as well, as if not understanding what's odd about that, "Oh wait, he did mention something about his plans and his duties and everything, so I knew one day he would have just done that. I just didn't know which day, exactly".

She sounds incredibly chill about it, as if she understands his reasons, "Still, that doesn't sound like... A very nice thing to do. Leaving without saying a word, I mean".

"No, he...", she pauses, unable to find a satisfactory explanation despite her best attempts, at which point she just smiles and shrugs, "He's an elf".

That makes sense, you suppose.

Before too long you're in sight of the caravansary again. Plenty more caravans have taken shelter there than there were on your last visit, and you're pleased to see it's still a very lively place, with several tents mounted outside as the inn grows steadily, room upon room being built every passing day.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the road, who was abruptly interrupted. It did progress from the time you've hitched a ride to get to New Royo, but you suppose the undead outbreak made the workers a little too scared of wandering murderous skeletons to have long, taxing days of work far from anywhere civilized. You suppose some of the caravans you see parked at the caravansary are also there to take advantage of its shelter rather than braving the undead-infested neighbourhood.

Speaking of which, you've seen no skeletons around. Whether it’s luck or the fact there’s no real danger still is hard to tell, but you start to get the feeling the threat was, possibly, a little overestimated.

“Caravansaries bring back memories”, Tahenohan wistfully claims, “I’ve eaten, drunk and danced so much in places like this...”.

Regardless, this might be a good chance to gather some information.

You suppose that the information will be waiting for you inside the actual building, you could bother the people outside but you'd have to do so at random, which isn't the best way to go around when gathering information. At least taverns are places where you're supposed to bother other people, and where others expect, in turn, to be bothered by strangers wanting information.

Once the choice is made, and as you head inside, you can't help but look back at Tahenohan and wonder, "What is this about your dancing? Does it have anything to do with that outfit you have in your possession?".

"Oh! You remember!", she grins merrily, grabbing your arm, "Yes! I've been waiting for a chance to put it on again!".

You remember alright, it's one of the skimpiest things you've seen, with some round plates to cover the breasts and everything else is a light yet rather tight chain holding what little there is in place. The cloth that should cover her crotch is... Well, let's just say it wouldn't cover anything if you were to don it, and would be just barely passingly decent for her figure.

She'd become quite popular if she put it on to dance here, that's for sure, but you're not sure it's the right sort of establishment for that outfit.

The inside is even more crowded than you remember it from last time. You've eaten a good supper and sat on comfy cushions, around low tables, at barely more than elbow distance from the other patrons. Right now, it would be difficult for just the two of you to find free spots on the ground and the air is filled with a faint haze of tobacco smoke.

“I’m sure you’ll get one”, you promise her, even though you’re not sure how and when she will. Right now, you suppose you should just gather information or, alternatively, kick back and relax for a while.

You really just want to hang out with Tahenohan, inquire about her dancing skills and see if she can teach you some tricks. You know a few yourselves with a sacred Calistrian pole, but your half-elven friend surely knows something with a more exotic feel that she could share.

However, you're a responsible, reliable fellow and therefore feel the need to inquire about actually important things, such as the colonist transit and all the tents outside.

Asking around, you quickly realize that many of the settlers were, in fact, scared off from continuing. Not as much from the undead outbreak as you might think, as news of that event are still scarce and relatively recent, leading you to believe that there must have been practically no incidents closer to Reboldeux; the main reason were the pirate raids, who have put quite a dent not only in trade and movement of goods but also in the worldly possessions of several colonists, and the lives of some, too.

And there's nothing as bad as leaving your home and what little you had, maybe even bringing your family with you, only to be robbed blind on a ship and be left completely destitute in a still savage and mostly untamed land where the only proper town is already grossly overpopulated and in severe shortage of imported goods.

People are understandably reluctant to go into details about the situation in Reboldeux, but some feel the need to vent about how you could barely move, and the prices of everything went sky-high, and it was impossible to build more houses so you were either forced to starve and die or brave the wilderness and hope you won't get eaten as you find some meagre excuse of a colony village in the middle of nowhere.

You can't help but feel a tinge of apprehension for your childhood friends you've arrived with. You left them in Reboldeux while you looked for some fortune yourself, but they might not be faring as well as you hoped considering the recent turns of event.

As you expected, trade has become a deathtrap for most people. Outside of Reboldeux there is still not much of an economy, it's either communal living or barter, just like in New Royo, and you suspect Maner isn't much more developed in this sense, meaning most merchants aren't going to be able to make a lot of money, or any at all, and won't be able to for a while.

After all, if piracy really did put this much of a dent in supplies from Rune, there won't be much money coming. As a particularly talkative patron explained to you, if they don't bring money from the mainland, there won't be any money to trade with. No money, no commerce, no commerce, no money, no money, no development, no development, no Reconquista.

It sounds a little convoluted and quite a bit pessimistic, you've seen New Royo work despite all the problems, surely not being able to make big cash for a while isn't going to kill the Reconquista. That would be amazingly stupid.

"What about the tents outside?", you ask the tavern owner, after you've had your ears so full of random patrons to last you for a couple days. At least a couple of them offered you something to drink so that your throat isn't really as parched as you'd expect it to be.

"Most of them are from merchants who are using this caravansary as a base of operations. Many still believe that the Shadow Marches will turn out to be a profitable enterprise despite the current situation. Some, however, belong to scouts and messengers".

"Messengers?", you ask.

"Well, they recently nominated a Marquise, so there's bound to be a lot of... Political play between Reboldeux and Maner from now on", he gives you a crafty smile, "And most people prefer to be on the winning side of a fight".

>”A fight? What fight?”.

"A fight?", you frown, "What fight? Aren't we all on the same side?".

The innkeeper gives a hearty laugh, "We are! That's why they invented politics, so we can fight each other despite being on the same side!", he chuckles again as he shakes his head, "The Shadow Marches are going to be full of problems, and the excessive amount of settlers we have, along with the fact we don't have enough resources for everyone, means that it's a problem someone will have to solve or face revolts. The duke of Reboldeux, who is everything but a stupid man, has been very eager to allow the Reconquista to proceed without a hitch so that a new Marquise could be nominated... And he could shove all of the problems in his lap".

"Is the situation as bad as they say in Reboldeux?", you wonder.

"Some are excessively bilious about it, but it's certainly not as rose-tinted as they might have made you believe when they were still preparing the Reconquista. I doubt they'd get many volunteers if they tried today", he smiles, as if the situation simply amuses him.

That still gives you plenty to think about, especially in regards of your friends' situation. Good thing you're coming back in a few days, so you can check on them, personally.

Unfortunately, there's not much you can do but worry right now. Or distract yourself with some lighter topics, "Any interesting news you've heard? Or interesting fellows you've seen?".

"Other than you and your knife-eared friend?", he chuckles, "You should check out the tents outside. Look for the cream one, with the wind rose hanging from the entrance. It's a bit smaller than the others. I'm sure you two will have something to talk about".

Well, that was generic, "Say. Are you in need of dancers?", you then ask, leaning a bit on the counter as you do.

“What kind of dancers?”, he asks back, intrigued.

Not exactly. She has had various partners before, so insecurity isn't what she has. And from MP's ask.fm, most people may find it unusual, but not abhorrent. It's just genitals, rare it may be so.

That is a very good question, and you weren't expecting to hear such a businesslike interest. You still don't know yourself how serious you were with that proposal, but you get the feeling he'd let both of you dance on a whim; after all he can't have failed to notice that two people have offered you something to drink, and he sure must have noticed your assets, which you might have showed off a bit as you leaned on the counter.

You're not sure how he's regarding Tahenohan, she is pretty sexy under her clothes but looks rather unimpressive on that front when she is dressed, especially if she is fully covered. Still, she's a half-elf, she has to count for exotic at least as much as you do.

Unfortunately you don't have much in terms of dancing clothes yourself, it's just Tahenohan with her definitely lewd outfit, but it'd be safer, and perhaps smarter of you, if you could just show off some actual dance skills rather than just flaunt your body. Besides, there's a particular part of your body you're not sure you want to flaunt about, you never know how people react there.

Which means you could let Tahenohan dance alone, and you're pretty sure she'd enjoy it, but... What kind of dance?

"The good kind", you decide to claim, "And it can get pretty sexy, if you know what I mean?".

"How sexy?", he insists, still very businesslike, "Because I'm sure there's plenty of clients who would be interested in more than just a dance show".

You might be a country bumpkin but you know when someone's talking about prostitution.

"Not that sexy", Tahenohan interjects, smiling brightly. Well, that settles it.

“In that case, feel free”, the innkeeper smiles broadly, opening his arms, “Do you need music, or can you provide your own? I can give you a room to change into, if you want”.

There’s barely room to move, dancing would be complicated, and nearly a matter of skinship.

"It'd be better if you could give us some music", you confess, as you weren't quite planning to do this and therefore didn't bring any instruments, or anyone to play them, "But we can manage without".

"I can have some drums and flutes, but I can't have them coordinate with two complete strangers, will you still be able to dance?", he asks, oddly intrigued.

"Yes", you confidently answer. At this point, you're way too convinced to pull out, "We'll manage".

"Very well then! Here, take this", and he hands you a heavy iron key, quite simple in looks, "It's a private room that's currently unused. It's a bit messy, but don't mind the crates and everything, just use it to get dressed. I'll have the music playing in the meantime, you come in and dance as soon as you're ready", and he winks at you, "Good luck!".

Well he certainly was trying to encourage you, can't deny that. You look at Tahenohan and she's basically hopping in place, extremely eager to give her own contribution to the dancing cause.

The two of you move towards the rooms and you find the one you're looking for downstairs, actually beneath the stairwell itself. As you turn the key and open the door, you expect to find a storage locker and little else, and you find... Well, pretty much that.

It's a small, rectangular room, a bed against the thin wall on the right above which rests a small, square window that lets some light filter inside. A cupboard a bit too large for a place this cramped is resting near the entrance and a few crates, covered with a simple orange blanket, occupy practically half the space.

You’ll have problems not hitting each other as you undress.

“So”, and Tahenohan gives you a bright smile as she immediately starts to take off her clothes, “What are you going to wear?”.

Oh. Right.

There are two things you didn't consider when going through with this plan. Well, other than how the innkeeper would have been so agreeable and easy to convince and businesslike, to the point he was pretty much asking outright if you were prostituting yourselves, something which you have no doubt he'd have helped you with, most likely for a share of gains.

The first thing is that you don't have a dancing outfit. Sure, you could put your swimsuit on, but... Well, that would reveal a lot about you, and you know very well about which specific part of "a lot" you should be concerned about.

The second thing is that relying on Tahenohan brought the most expected results to bear: she's a full head shorter than you are, she is very thin, and her breasts are... Well, compared to you, it's like she doesn't even have them. There's no way anything she has will ever fit you, especially not the exotic, barbaric and extremely revealing outfit she's dead set on wearing. Not that it doesn’t suit her, you can see very well that it does, and it’s not even that revealing on a figure as thin as hers.

"How about we tie some of my clothes together at your breasts and crotch and send you out like that?", she asks, completely serious and with a wicked smile on. You'd look more ridiculous than sexy but hey, it might work; after all you don't want to look too sexy, you've seen how extremely easily people can get the wrong idea about your interests.

Of course there's still that stock full of crates covered by nothing but an orange blanket. The innkeeper did say to not let them bother you, and you're pretty sure he wouldn't like you to steal from there, but he wouldn't have let you in so easily if there was anything actually precious in there, would he? Besides, it's going to be a loan at best...

>Go with Tahenohan’s idea.

>>
What will the mystery box hold?

>>
Just a quick peek won't hurt, will it? Besides, nobody will know you took a look, there's nothing to be worried or ashamed about, it's not like you're going to steal anything.

You move the orange blanket aside and see that most crates are covered but not really locked or held in place by nails or anything, so you can really browse to your heart's content and none will be the wiser. Unless you make a huge mess, you suppose, or whomever put them there has a photographic memory and is crazy enough to check that every single mote of dust is in its original place, but that'd be terribly bad luck.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much of use: several sheets, blankets and cushions are to be found, along with a plethora of empty green glass bottles, cutlery and other implements who would indeed be very useful to have in a tavern, but you presume they're in excess for the current amount of business this caravansery has. Or maybe there's nowhere to put them since the inn is still being built.

There are some clothes after all, but it's just some night gowns, and not the sexy kind: the plain, unisex sort that you're only going to wear if you don't want to prance around naked and have nothing else to put on, or are too lazy to go and grab it.

Well, you had to try.

"That's a pity", Tahenohan comments with a smile. You can't help but wonder where she got that outfit of hers: the metal plates seem to be made on purpose to cover exactly her breasts, almost completely, especially because it's pressing them quite a bit from how tightly she tied her chain. The cloth on her waist seems to be meant to flutter rather than actually cover her genitals, although thankfully it also does that job. “Seems like you’ll have to go with my solution”.

Just look at her smile, it’s obvious she knows you’re going to look ridiculous.

You're about to throw away your dignity, and for what? Well, to accompany a good friend of yours into something she really wants to do, which you guess is important, but it just reminds you how strange it is to be with a half-elf, although in all honesty y- wait a second.

You briefly feel like a harpy as your gaze is instantly drawn to a faint reflection that you've noticed for a split second amidst the messy, disorderly crates just as soon as you were about to cover them again with that orange blanket.

Curiously, you try and wedge your arm between the gaps, pushing the crates aside as carefully as you can, until your hand grasps something cold. You pull it back, finding it heavier than you'd expect, and you're not surprised to see why.

It's a gold medal. Solid gold. You can't mistake that particular shine anywhere else. You wonder what it's doing in there, it was just wedged in there for no reason, and wasn't even inside a crate but rather between two of them, and it's a miracle it didn't fall somewhere to the ground where it would have been a lot tougher to pull out. On one side you can distinguish the face of a young woman with long, flowing hair, and on the other is a heraldry that's completely unfamiliar to you.

"Hold it right there", comes a voice behind you, before Tahenohan even has a chance to nose into what you just found. You turn to see that the bed is now occupied by a young woman, posing on top of the blankets with her legs crossed and looking like she's been there for a while. A quick glance at the fur-lined red cloak, the fishnet stockings and the leather halter is enough to recognize her, as if her crop-cut blonde hair wasn't enough of an indication.

You weren't expecting to see her again so soon, and you certainly weren't expecting her in such a circumstance. Then again you should have, you've been able to witness just how fond she is of dramatic entrances.

"Where were you?", you can't help but ask, in fact, as it was patently impossible for you to have missed her coming inside, especially considering how little room there is.

"Here", she opens her arms, like it's the most conclusion to come to, "I came in just in time, it seems".

A quick glance above her head shows that the window is now open, but come on, there's no way she could fit through there, she's not Tahenohan. Besides, she'd have made a mess and you'd have spotted her the moment she opened the window, it's just flat out impossible.

"I was putting it back down I swear", then, realizing you didn't sound convincing at all, you add "I was just looking for some costumes to wear, we're going to dance soon but...".

"So you found a hidden gold medal because you were looking for...", she points at you, but pauses, as if her dramatic flair was somehow disturbed, "... Dancing clothes?".

"Mine don't fit her", Tahenohan helpfully explains. Anyone could see that, though, the size difference is just too noticeable.

"Is this yours?", you offer the gold medal, and she springs to her feet with natural flair, hands in her pockets.

"Yes. I have hidden some of them around in inconspicuous places. No better hiding spot than somewhere people know, for a fact, to hold nothing precious nor important. Of course the unexpected can happen, but... Well". She looks like she wanted to say something cooler but she just fails to, and stares at you instead, “Anyways, you have quite a good sight, you’d make a fine scavenger... If you trained extensively, that is”.

"What... Are these medals and why are you hiding them?", you can't help but wonder, it's not exactly something you could find any day so you're sure there's an interesting story behind them.

"There's an interesting story behind them", Pyorindel admits, crossing her arms to get a better pose, "But you're not supposed to know it. After all, you're not even supposed to find these medals, and it would be rather... Inconvenient if you were to hold them for long".

She stares at you for a long few moments, and you stare back at her in tense silence as you wonder what she's going to do next; she sounded rather threatening, and you have to remember she does have a sword with her. Then, after a while, she clears her throat, "Er... Are you going to give that back?".

"Oh, sorry", you answer without thinking and hand the medal back, which she slips handily in her pocket with a sigh. "No wait a moment, you were spying on us".

"Yes", she candidly admits.

"Do you usually spy on young, innocent girls changing clothes?", you cross your own arms and put on your most outraged face, "Should we refer to you as miss lecher from now on?".

"Wha-".

"I'm sure everyone would LOVE to hear about your voyeuristic explots! Who knows how OUTRAGED everyone could be at your peeping exploits".

"Oh please if I wanted to watch you naked I'd just wait in your rooms or stalk you until you take a bath", she answers with a disarming honesty.

The confidence with which she claimed to be able to do that sent a shiver down your spine, even though she doesn't look like the kind of person who would actually do that.

You hope.

“It’s okay, we’ll forgive you”, you reassure her, trying to keep your bluff despite everything, “As long as you dance with us”.

“No”, not even a split-second of thought.

Well that was quick.

I am torn. I'm sure she will sneak away if she does join the dance, but it might also get in the way of pairing with Tahenohan.

"Come on", you encourage her, "It will be fun!".

"No it won't, don't try and trick me", she frowns and keeps a tone typical of someone who hates fun.

"We'll be happy to teach you if you're not too confident in your skills!".

"I don't want to learn".

"Surely you can spare some mercy for our ravaged psyche after being seen changing and heed our humble request?".

"You're not even making sense now".

She has a point, and seeing how she resists any attempt at even just being teased, you're forced to change the topic, "Well, what are you doing here anyways? I figured you'd be the type that moves around a lot".

"I am", she admits, "I just returned from something I had to do. I'd rather have my base of operations here after all".

"Why is that?", you wonder.

"Because the royal army's lieutenant in Maner is annoying and Agnes is...", she sighs, "I guess it's my fault, but I don't have the heart to tell her I'm just not interested at all".

That sounds like a story, right there, but before you can focus on that, there's something else you need to ask: "Can you at least lend us some clothes?".

“What for?”, she wonders.

“For dancing”, you explain, and look at her outfit, “Yours would be pretty good, for example, I-”.

“Absolutely no, no way in hell, no, just no”, she shakes her head with a most firm expression, “These clothes are more than just a uniform, they’re a testament, a statement, a state of being; they are the very proof of what I am and how far I came to achieve this state. It is not something just anyone can wear-”.

“You can keep the cloak”, you interject.

“Oh”, she goes, “In that case you can have my spares”.

What’s concerning is not the ease with which she agreed to your new conditions, but that she pulled out a halter and shorts with fishnet stockings from just under her cloak.

“By the way”, she then adds, “Did you find that sword I asked about?”.

>”Yes”.
>”No”.

"I'm not sure", you cautiously answer, "Which sword was it again?".

"Name's Keshanberk. It's supposed to be studded with red gems, likely rubies, and magical. It's probably single-edged, too", she explains, eliciting some familiarity about that description, "So, did you find it?".

"I've seen quite a few swords while I was travelling", you continue, careful to not let any emotion slip past your own control, "What would you do to someone who had the one you're looking for?".

She remains silent for a while. Then, tilting her head a little, she goes "I don't understand the question".

"How far would you be willing to go to get that sword?".

"I've never had problems acquiring things that aren't mine", is all she says, with more than just a hint of pride in her tone, "So you have seen it after all".

"I can't tell you without being certain that you're a good person", it's starting to sound desperate, but you don't want to endanger the monsters you're supposed to protect.

"A good person? I'm afraid I- Wait", she was about to go on some kind of boast again before something struck her, "You do realize I am not an assassin, right?".

That sounds like a trick question, "... Yes?".

"Good", she looks honestly relieved, "Because I'm really in a completely different league from that kind of people". Again, it sounds like she's boasting about something.

Meanwhile, you look down at the clothes she gave you. It’s a leather halter (yellow, for some reason) and a pair of brown shorts with fishnet stockings. There’s no boots included, but you’ll have to make do. Of course, the clothes are a bit small for you, especially in the chest department. Pyorindel is normal, not flat as Tahenohan, but compared to you she’s still very small.

But, about the sword...

"Frankly, I think you're just going to steal it, and that's bad", you state, wanting to be clear about the issue, "I care about the owner of that sword, so you will have to barter honestly".

"Fine", she claims, way too easily.

"But you'll have to convince me you won't just steal it, and that I can trust you", you warn her, "Meaning you will have to do something for me, in change".

"You seem to be greatly overestimating yourself, if you think you're worthy enough to demand my services", nonetheless, she smiles with a certain amount of smug self-satisfaction, "But I will still listen, for I am curious to see what your proposal is".

"You'll have to dress up and dance with us-".

"Screw it, they don't pay me enough for this".

Well that was amazingly quick. And somewhat disappointing, too, it’s not like she doesn’t have a figure worth of a little dance, "... Why? I don't think I'm asking that much. I don't think I'm asking much at all".

"I think she's just shy", Tahenohan helpfully intervenes, and looking like she’s having fun at the intruder’s expense, giggling behind her back.

"I'm not meant to dance", Pyorindel excuses herself, "I'm a shadowy stalker, not someone who thrives in the midst of everyone's attention. I'll gladly leave that to you while I return to my own business".

"I can help", you offer, you’re not even sure why you want to help her out. Well, you don’t really, Leiana is your friend and you don’t want to endanger her, nor you want her to lose your sword, but this girl’s behaviour is too odd to just let go. You have to go deeper. "And not just with the dance, with getting you that sword too".

She pauses for a moment, staring at you with distrustful eyes, "Don't tell me I really have to dance to get your help".

Psshh, please. lillith knows how to entrance people, I am sure.
And anon, just think ot it. They dance, get close to each other, Tahe turns to Lillith and grind against her, they cross gazes and their faces come even closer...
>>
You give her question some careful thought. You're balancing a possibly dangerous person's intentions on the tip of your fingers here, and what you say may sway her following behaviour wildly one way or another, sending her into a stealing spree or having her behave correctly and, most importantly, not hurt Leiana or rob her blind.

Nah, of course you just go "Yes", flat and bold in her face without really thinking. At least Tahenohan seems to approve wholeheartedly of all this.

Pyorindel looks visibly fought, and, perhaps surprisingly, does not immediately answer "No", like she did before. She crosses her arms, taps her foot, looks around in that nervous look where she would like to focus on something else but you're right in front of her and annoying her quite a bit. She then scratches her head and sighs heavily.

"One minute", she says.

"That's way too little", you shake your head, "One dance. Just one, then you slip away like only you can do and we keep the audience".

"Where are you even planning to dance? There's barely any room to move back there". Well, all of her protests before might just be her being shy, but this one makes sense; you barely have the space to move, let alone dance. Of course you could just brush against everyone and grope and be groped, but that sounds dangerously close to some kind of orgy that not even Ishtar would condone rather than a dance.

It is a real problem. How are you going to dance if there's no room? Pyorindel sighs, crossing her arms, “I bet you didn’t even think of that. See? We can’t do that, even I, who am quite experienced in getting where I’m not supposed to, don’t know how you could possibly dance in a room that crowded, of course at this point we’ll just need to give up”.

“I have an idea”.

Tahenohan interrupts Pyorindel’s streak of self-assuredness, earning a glare that is both surprised and pained, and only smiling in return. “I have an idea”, she repeats.

Honestly, there wasn't much of it. We had some with the dance, but aside from that we've barely had any across all the multiple threads. It's sparse, non-intense and non-indepth, perfectly fine.

>Honestly it looks shit to me. Even for a super-lewd outfit.

Both QMd know each other and are clise friends in real life. There was a small fuss and many jokes about it (and a few possibly creepy ones). The QMs were even shipped together as OTP (despite both having girlfriends). Presumedly, this is why >>39979927 exists.
