On the other side of the planet, a strange artifical girl and her new sidekick are hunting you, but right now that isn't important. Your name is Fifer Gotsley, and right what is important, is the fact that you're imprisoned. Your cell is no more than an empty housing apartment, with a locked door, no windows, and two guards outside. You know why you're here, you disobeyed orders inorder to rescue a down escape pod, but quite frankly, you aren't sure you agree with it.

It's been a long night, and you've definitely had time to think things over now that you've calmed down a bit, but you still aren't exactly okay with being brigged. Hearing a knock on the door, Arkadi's voice booms into the room. "Gotsley, do you want to talk now? It's important." His voice was as boisterous as ever, but you felt a hint of dire concern under all of it, something was wrong, you just knew it, you'd only heard Arkadi talk like this once before, and that was when he brought news of your mother's death to you and your father.

Bit of a slow start, huh?

You look up at the man, you eyes red and watery, having gotten next to no sleep last night. Your mind has been racing non-stop, thinking of the battle behind you, the people of the Apollo, and most of all... The feeling you felt in the middle the last battle. The slowing of time, the sudden focus, the life saving shot on your enemy. It all still feels unreal, but, you know it happened, it's the only reason you're still alive. Still, you shake that off, and reply to the task at hand. "Fine, lets talk this out Arkadi, not like I have much of an option."

Sighing, the man pulls out a chair, sitting opposite your bed. "Fifer, now's not the time to be bitter, we've got bad news... I apologize for treating you like this, but, if you kept it up, you would have put yourself, the Bogatyr, and most importantly, the people in danger."

>"It turned out alright, didn't it?"

>"It turned out alright, didn't it?"

It seems so
>>
>>39976932

You look up at him, frowning as he spoke. "Look, I couldn't just leave those people behind Arkadi. Hell, it even turned out alright, didn't it?" While you are right, you know he's not talking about what did happen, but what could have happened, still, right now your mind is on other things.

Wordlessly, the man stands, slapping you as he looked rather displeased. "Dammit Gotsley! Your father raised you better than to go against orders like that. The local militia offered their protection, and if you keep this up, I have half a mind to have them replace you! Listen, you're the only reason we survived in the first place, if we lose you to a cocky decision, the Apollo has nothing."

>"Good, let the locals replace me"
>"Alright, alright, I get what you're saying..."
>"...Was smacking me really necessary?"
>>
>>39977279
>"Alright, alright, I get what you're saying..."

Feels weird to be the only anon here
>>
>>39977419

You raise your hands in the air, letting out a sigh. "Alright, alright, I get it Arkadi, but why are you coming in here now? I thought I still had another day in here." Rubbing your cheek, you can already tell it's going to be leaving quite a mark.

"...I told you, I have bad news Fifer." He raises a piece of paper in the air, uncurling it and letting you look upon it. Rimmed with gold leave, the sheet was printed on fancy paper, and it had a simple enough message. A picture of the Bogatyr, as it was in your last fight, with a subscript beneath it 'Wanted: 10 Million Blessings'. "I had no idea what the hell a blessing was, till I asked one of the locals." He flicked a coin, spinning in the air, you saw a flash of gold as it landed back in Arkadi's hand.

>"Where did you find that?"
>"What should I do?"
>"What's the point of this?"

Staring at the photo, you eventually shake off your confusion, looking up at Arkadi to speak. "Where'd you get that? They couldn't have been put out any earlier than yesterday..."

Arkadi stood, letting out a sigh as he dropped the poster in your lap, turning to stare at the wall. He was silent for a moment before speaking again. "They were airdropping them over our camp. We know for a fact they know exactly where we are, and what are they doing? Dropping these damn things!" He turned on a heel, looking like a man out of options as we spoke.

"You want to know why I'm here? I want you out of here Fifer, for your own good. Last night after the drop, there was a riot. I had to rotate out your guards, one of them wanted to sell you out, turns out about a ton and a half of gold coins is enough to break a man."

>"You want me to what?"
>"Where will I go?"

You blink, your mind not exactly registering what exactly the commander just said to you. "I'm sorry sir, I heard you, but... You want me to do what now?"

"I want you to leave," He repeats, and while to you it sounds like a joke, you hear not even a hint of humor in his voice. "They're trying to turn the Apollo against you, and no matter what we're trying, as long as you're here, things are going to get worse." Reaching into his jacket, he pulls out a pistol, though hand cannon would be a much more fitting description. A seemingly massive revolver, you take it and feel it in your hands, the weight feels powerful, intimidating almost. "Take this, Lucille's going to serve you well." Smirking, you're merely more confused as you look up at the man.

"Arkadi, none of this makes /any/ sense, where am I going to go? What am I going to do? Look, if it's not safe here, it's probably not any safer anywhere else, is it?" You grab the gun and put it to your side, grabbing a holster as it's handed to you.

"Fifer... I don't know where you'll go, or what you'll do, but if you want the Apollo to be safe, then this is the best choice."

>"Alright... I'll do it."

Looking around, you sigh, holstering your new side arm and grabbing your military duffle bag from underneath your bed. "Fuck... Alright, alright I'll do it." You smirk, looking up to Arkadi. "I'll make sure to find those Cathedrale goons who put that bounty out, I'll be back in no time."

The large Russian man said nothing, merely giving you one of his great, nearly famous bear hugs. You stood there for a moment, not sure what to do until he let go. "When the day comes where we reach peace, I'll have your room ready for you. I'm sorry this all had to happen so fast, losing your father, and now your home, but it'll be better in the end, I'm sure of it. You're a good kid Fifer, you're doing your old man proud."

As he let go, you put your bag on your back, and turned to Arkadi. "Alright, take me to the garage then, I'll miss you too, hopefully you aren't wrong you old oaf." Grinning, you get a pat on the shoulder as you leave the room, now unguarded. Rushing out the hall and along the edge of the forest, you quickly reach the area where the Bogatyr stands. Giving Arkadi one last salute, you unlock the cockpit, and climb inside.

Giving Arkadi one last goodbye, you turn on the mek, and read your compass. To the north, Arz Creek, the sleepy town you were sent to investigate. The locals were friendly, but, likely they had seen the bounty as well, and their reception wouldn't be the warmest. Thinking of your options, you turn to the west, and take off. Beam rifle in one hand, shield in the other, and your new axe strapped to your thigh, you bound over felled tree trunks and the occasional ditch, trying your best to navigate through the darkness.

Trying not to think of the Apollo, sooner, rather than later, you come to a stop. Streching as far as you can see to the North and South, a deep ravine divides the forest. Past it, you can see the trees start to thin out, yet, the sun not having risen yet, you can't see what lies beyond it.

Seeing just a simple obsticle, you fire up your backpack thrusters. Standing at the edge, you jump, boosting your way across with relative ease. Landing on the otherside, you smirk with satisfaction, until you hear a click. Looking down, the ground around you is covered with ashes, extending past the ravine as far as the eye can see. Yet, it's not that that worries you, it's the blinking red light beneath your feet.

It doesn't take long to realize you're standing on a landmine.

You decide to try your luck, and simply get off of the mine. Your thrusters still hot, you fly up high. The moment you leave the mine, it goes off, and while the damage isn't as bad as it could be, a warning comes up, the ankle servos have taken some damage, and traversing over rough terrain will be much more difficult. Still, up high, you get a view of the area.

To the west, miles upon miles of flat, grey ground seem to stretch for ages, a valley of nothing but ashes, a strange, haunting view. It seems like a sea, except for the mountains far, far past the plains where nothing lived. To the north, the hills continue on and on, green and lively, forming a sharp contrast with the dead grounds to the west. And to the south, you see how close you are to the sandy coast, the sea heading out without interruption, only a few of the islands you saw from much higher up visible

Passing up the dead, barren wastes, you follow the hills north. Landing to conserve fuel, with your busted ankle, the trip is a bit trecherous, but you continue on until sunrise just fine, minus the fact that you aren't moving at full potential. For a while, you see nothing but emptiness, but in the distance, something catches your eye.

The horizon is orange with fire, as you see some sort of town, much bigger than Arz Creek, or even the bases set up by the Apollo. You can see several large shapes, most likely meks, moving around as the flames lick at the sky. You have no idea what's happening, or why the town is burning, but you're curious nonetheless

Approaching, you crest several more hills as you notice something strange. In the air, at first you see what appears to be a thin cloud of fog rolling in as you move closer to the fires, yet as you close the distance, you see some of it land on your cockpit, and realize it's snowing ashes. The morbid reality of what's going on gets worse as you finally reach the large town. Massive meks, easily twice the size of the Bogatyr seem to roam without thought, smashing, and torching everything in site. The streets are lined with bodies, and the few civilians you do see are immediatly chased down by one of the monsters, being crushed, burned, or killed through various horrible means.

They seem not to notice you still, the Bogatyr's grey paintjob doing a good job of blending in with the now grey hills, but you notice something. Each of the meks isn't standard issue, rather appearing to be piles of junk. Random servos, armor plates, and weapons welded together. None of them seemed to have a cockpit, instead having a large, dull metallic tentacle coming out of their backs, cutting through the ground like some sort of demonic plow. Their eyes glowing red, you stand back and watch them lay waste to the town

Raising your rifle, you decide that first things first, protecting what's left of the town is probably your best bet, and to do that, you need to get these maniacs away from what's left of it. Firing a few glancing shots at the closest of the behemoths, even the minimal contact shots manage to blow chunks of it off, revealing it to be almost nothing more than left over mek parts held together by will power and cheap welding. It stops its rampage, and turns to look directly at you.

As a matter of fact, they all do, five in total stopping in place and locking eyes with you. Not the Bogatyr, but you, it seems as if they stare into the cockpit, and even your eyes directly as the freeze, their glowing red eyes doing a whole lot to unnerve you. You prepare to book it, to try and lead them out of the area, but they in unison, they begin to scream. A visceral, and all too human scream, the five of them charge you, the ear piercing noise continuing as the book it with a ferocity you've never seen before.

You turn and attempt to book it, pushing the throttle as hard as you can... You get a few steps off, and for a moment it seems like you have them, but then the ashy ground gives out under one foot, and with a fierce tumble, you fall onto the Bogatyr's chest. Suddenly, warnings and notifications start popping up and you feel like a fool as you turn the mek's head to get a better view.

Behind you, your foot lies, detached, as the pack of meks approaches with no sign of slowing down. In a fit of panic, you pull the trigger a few times, aiming for the leader of the pack. Your shots blow straight through him, clean enough, and strong enough to the point where you can see clear through the machine's torso, yet it doesn't even seem to flinch, in fact approaching faster and faster, and screaming louder as time goes by.

Using your shield as a sort of makeshift crutch, you manage to steady yourself, and think about what you've seen. So far, you've only pissed these things off, they seem to be walking scrapheaps attached to tentacles, and they seem to just shrug off any and all damage... Smirking inside the cockpit, you raise your rifle to the head of the nearest one, now within lunging range, and fire.

Being close to point-blank range, the beam burns clean through the beast's head, and blows it clean off. The eye explodes, and the body collapses at your feet, the tentacle connected to it making a pained hissing noise as it retreats back into the ravine behind the mek that it had formed. With four of them still charging at you, you aren't fairing too much better, but at least you know the things aren't invinsible.

Without your other foot, you aren't as stable, and caught up in the excitement of the moment, the beast is upon you. Raising both its metal claws over its head, it slams them down upon your cockpit, trying to crack it open like some sort of living nut. Screaming, you draw your axe from your waistband, once again, you feel something in your mind change, as time begins to slow. The loud, rapid hits of the metal monster are now slow, almost melodic in comparison. Bringing the axe up, you lock on mentally, preparing for an epic, killing blow. With a grunt, you smash the control stick forward, and with it, the Bogatyr's arm moves, the axe following through. You let go, aiming to hit the bastard upside the head.

Watching expectantly, you quickly realize something... You've missed. The axe flies on by, seeming to zoom into the sky, abandoning you forever, or so it seems. Time beginning to flow as normal, with one last hit, the cockpit goes dark, the screen going out, and the controls locking up. You fear for you imminent death... Until you feel the mek, and yourself being dragged somewhere. You wonder where, when suddenly, you feel yourself falling, fast. With a hard landing, you go unconscious, fading into a painful sleep for now.

Five years ago, you watched your parents burn to death. Five years ago, you watched your every possession get stolen, your inheritance, and your family's caravan business that had run for generations? Dead, gone, and buried.

It was five years ago when you decided to become a bandit yourself, and today, you are Armen Azhari, or as the people of the Golden Seas call you, The Prince of Death. With your men, you've been hot on the trail of a Cathedrale mek for the last week. Having intercepted another one a month or so ago, you found a planned voyage unlike any other. Crossing the entirety of the Golden Seas in a caravan was unheard of. Normally, several took shifts, transferring cargo to one another, it took longer, but it was safer, and less predictable. Drawing your attention, you sent your scouting mek, and it's pilot Ikau a half day ahead to keep an eye on them, and now he returns to you, bearing information

"S-Sir! I've been observing their radio communications, they're stopping a day for repairs, we have a perfect opportunity to attack!" While only a year younger than you, at 17, Ikau wasn't exactly confident, yet he was a hell of scout, that was for sure. "They have only two meks on them, and a small squad of buggies, their main transport is heavily armored, and it's container is covered in high-security warnings, what should we do?"

"Gather Xylia and Cedric, we'll approach their encampment and determine a plan from there. Have them take the rear, we'll lead as we approach" You leave Ikau with his orders, and see him hop into his mek, the Sunrunner, a small spindly chassis with one hand, and one arm mounted anti-tank cannon. Your band of raiders prefers speed over firepower, a common trade off out here, where battles are often decided in mere minutes, and whoever gets the first advantage, often wins.

You quickly take your tent down, something you've done countless times before, and head to your mek, the King of Blades. While it only reaches to the waist of your average mek, and it's armor could be penetrated by small arms fire, you've rarely even been scratched in it. The King trades off armor, for limbs, sporting six of them in total, each of them carrying a thermal scimitar, it cuts through armor like butter, slaughtering meks, tanks, and infantry like nothing.

Suiting up and packing, you see the Sunrunner approach, and take off. The sun hanging low, you've spent most of the day doing repairs of your own, but now it's all going to pay off. Moving so fast over the golden dunes, from which the Golden Sea takes its name, you're practically skiing, and in no time at all you reach the clearing in which the caravan is stopped. Painted in a flat matte tan, you practically blend in, and you spy on them with ease. At the moment, only a single, medium sized mek is manned, two tanks, five buggies, and a single large, treaded transporter are all stopped, being worked on by furious squads of meks.

You wait until the sunsets, taking an hour to scope out the camp in full. You notice that none of them are equiped for close quarters combat, and you realize how doomed these bastards are. You would feel bad, if it wasn't for the Cathedrale doing the same to you, five years ago. As soon as the sun crests the horizon, you and Ikau charge over the dunes, you send him for the buggies, while you go for the meks.

Surfing over the sand, you quickly come up on the shocked, and confused mek. It raises a sniper rifle of sorts to its hip, and attempts to fire, but it goes straight over you. Grinning, you close the gap with ease, and bring two of your six swords forward, decapitating the mek with one fell swoop, slicing through the torso like butter, you leave it in ruins as you close in on the other, its pilot just barely having gotten in moments ago. It attempts to unsheath a knife, but before it can even move, you've minced it up like it was childs play

With the soft thunk of a grenade launcher, you grin as you watch the parked tanks go up in flames, Cedric and his bulky mek standing on the edge of a dune, he raises one hand to give you a thumbs up, and you can't help but give a hearty chuckle over the radios. You see Ikau make short work of the buggies, and Xylia has already secured the transport, using thick metal chains to jam its treads, preventing it from moving. "Excellent!" You call out over comms, the team approaching the vessel. "Another raid without a hitch, heh, when will these bastards learn that this continent is ours?"

Send a team to open the container. Bandit leaders get to chill and enjoy the spoils brought by his subordinates.

With all the loose ends tied up, you approach the back of the container, and find it locked. You let out a soft laugh, as to a bandit, locks are meaningless. With one swipe, it's melted clean off, and falls in the sands with a thud, letting the thick metal cargo doors of the transporter slide open.

Seeing the cargo bay from the outside, you would think this thing was carrying a mek, maybe weapons, or tanks, but instead, you find four metal crates, each of them labeled neatly on each side "TOP SECRET: PROJECT ZETA". You have no idea what it is, but you know one thing, anything top secret, is worth top dollar to the right buyer. Cracking one open, you peer in, and immediatly, your attention is piqued. A small, almost tiny mek reactor, no larger than an average car engine. It looks normal, except for its core, instead of the standard fusion reactor chamber, a clear sphere sits, a purple crystal suspended inside of it.

"Heh, looks like we hit the jackpot, some sort of new Cathedrale mek engine, four of em to be exact..." A thought crosses you mind, and you turn to face Xylia's Arch-Angel, the support mek of your team.

Try to gauge how much we might fetch for one of these first.

>Suggest another option
Keep one for our self, consider selling the rest if the pay-off is good.

In any case, sticking around the scene of the crime is a bad idea. Remain mobile, fade back into the sands.

Keep one for our own Mek, and keep the other three to sell.

"Xylia, come here, you should see this." Approaching you, her mek stands below even yours, being short and winged, the Arch-Angel is meant for long range support, and aerial support, she's saved your ass countless times, and she knows her way around a mek unlike anyone else. "We're saving three of these, but... I think I want to put one of them in the King here, think you could do that in a night?"

She lets out a chuckle over the radio, looking into the crate. "One night to do a reactor swap? I'd say impossible, but I have a feeling if I said no to you, tomorrow I'd be out of a job, and my mek. Alright, I'll give it a try, but don't expect a miracle." With that, you give Xylia her space, hoping out of your mek and grabbing your tent, setting up alongside your teammates, today was a job well done, and you need your rest.

Aaaand done here for the night, I expected it to go a /bit/ longer, but you fucks destroyed combat this time around, expect another thread tomorrow, follow https://twitter.com/ZQuestGM for updates and such

d20 on /tg/ just goes all over the place.

Anyway, thanks for running and I hope we'll put the various PoV protags in a crossroad meeting point some time within the next few threads.
