>Hunt a demon, bring a red-faced Kat.

“Nah, go enjoy your day,” you say, letting your father go free.

“Awesome, if you ever need me you know where I am,” he waves and shuts the back door behind him leaving both you and Kat out here.

“So what do you want to do?” she asks watching you as you detransform, letting the bit of darkness you’d acquired dissipate harmlessly into you.

“You know, I was actually thinking about going hunting and dragging you along,” you explain as your Sundress comes to rest gently against you.

“Ah kay,” Kat nods and leads the way towards the front door, “Are you going to bring anyone else?”

You hum as you think about it. On one hand, just bringing Kat’ll make it easier to grab equal amounts of cores… on the other if you run into something strong and had another you could take it out without worry.

>Nah we’ll be enough for now.

“Nah, we’ll be enough for now,” you shake your head as you lock the door behind you.

As you turn around Kat puts away her key, wearing it around her neck; she adjusts her collar a bit before saying, “Kay… you’re looking again?”

“Might as well, since it’s easier on me,” you glance around before walking off towards the park.

Kat walks with you, chatting as you go, she mostly talks of the games you’ve given her to play. She’s a bit sour over some of the more difficult bosses, frowning as she describes one particular boss that has very little lead up into a kill move.

“I was really glad to finally beat it but,” she makes a sheepish smile as she rubs the back of her head, “I don’t think I’d be able to do it again…”

“Sometimes thats just how it is,” you chuckle, remembering when you’ve had to get others to beat a part for you and vice versa, “Thats why you have friends. Sometimes they get a hell of a lot luckier than you.”

“Ah, you would have helped..?” Kat asks as she tilts her head, curious.

“Maybe not at first,” you shrug as you come across a nightmare.

You’re a bit surprised even as you weren’t really paying attention listening to Kat more than actually looking, but here it is along the side of someone's house. There’s no car in the driveway and as best you can see the streets empty.

Kat shivers a bit as you get closer, “Found one..?”

Magical Burst: Nicky Extrapolated?
>>
So, hear me out for a moment yeah? I've hit a point in writing this where I've no clue where to go.

We've a vague general end set ahead which is 'fix any hiccups,' but nothing that can be directly worked towards or even act as a tangible goal. I understand that's my job as QM to provide ideas or at least hooks of things you all might want but the idea's I've got are all out of slice of life which people seem to come to this quest for.

And while I don't mind writing slice of life, I am running dry on.... inspiration I guess to write at the very least something that reads decently.

I am mentioning this to you all as you decide the story as much as I do and if anyone's got solid ideas on drives or goals that people agree on so I can write towards that it'd help a lot I think.

Going back to writing update in mean time, I suppose.

The inner city girls start trying to expand their turf? John accidentally walks into a mgic pocket? "witch hunters" come after us?
>>
>>39979377
>>39979342
>"witch hunters" come after us?
Might be cool. I recall some talks about possibly church shenanigans might be a thing in setting. (be funnier if someone from Johns family was involved in some way).

Wouldn't mind seeing more missions given to us as well from Boss man. Stuff that might take a few days to complete or something like that.

Then again we might need to start thinking on possibly doing some sort of time skip deal as well. Get us closer to school stuff and what not.

Long terms goal stuff for Alex? Hell if I know. Not die? I would like to see more of the magical side of stuff beyond MG things but I've been saying that for a bit now... Really don't want to sound like some whiny shit just something would like see more of. Might be a good way to go if you do use the whole church thing.
>>
>>39979342
The slice of life is great but it'll be getting staler until we get our aura of normality and start school, not much can be done about that.

For ideas I'd say maybe a big barbecue with all our friends invited (maybe a vote for our meguka friends and the girl that got stabbed). Or maybe a huge demon that needs all of us to take down like the fallen god did.
>>
>>39979342
I was expecting this issue to come up sooner or later. It's the side effect of a PC with a goal of "Just have fun". Either you'll need to have one of Alex's friends come up with a more concrete goal, or for some other entity to force a more concrete goal upon Alex.
>>
>Yeah, ready?
>Wait till you’re inside, someone might see an all.

“Yeah ready?” you say stepping up close to it, trying your best to look as though you’re supposed to be next to this person’s house.

Kat bites her lip, before nodding. You step inside, feeling the nightmare wrap around you feeling constricting as it does. When you can see again, you take in the nightmare around you; it’s a large bedroom with a four poster bed. The room is otherwise bare save for the two occupants, one of which is tied to the posts.

It’s hard to get a solid look at him as he’s got a woman on top of him strangling him as best she can despite the straight jacket she’s wearing... though with the arms missing she’s not having too much trouble there.

Neither of them notice you as you quietly call out your transformation line, Kat taking a hop skip and jump away from you and forcing it as usual.

Your clothes break away from you before you even finish, “Shield of glass, spear of light; Break now, mirror, aid my fight!” the sound grabbing the woman’s attention. The darkened shards protect you from the nova of flame from Kat, before falling into their positions leaving you with your book of mirrors, cargo pants and blouse.

Kat finishes shortly after you in her smoke coloured skirt and pantiehose, topped by the flaming wand and blouse.

All of this happens before the woman has even managed to get up off the bed, you note her eyes have a crazy look to them, as if a child scribbled the iris and pupils in frantically.

The guy on the bed lets out a gasp of relief, though makes no further noise. Kat glances at you nervously waiting for you as the straight jacket woman takes another step towards you.

The way I see it, we currently have a 'by the end of summer vacation' goal of 'addressing our changes enough to go back to school'. So if this were a TV show, that would be the goal we'd slowly work towards over the course of the season while we also deal with the hijinks of the plots of the individual episodes. So it sounds like it's the episode plots that are currently causing ya trouble.

If the slice-of-life stuff is good but seeming a bit dry for you, then maybe just throw in some random events? Relatively small things that don't necessarily derail us too much from the end-of-summer goal, but still give us other things to do during the days.
Maybe Alex comes across Nicki being lost or having a stranger-danger moment, or a polite zombie, or Kat gets stuck on/in something while wandering around in Shadow Alex's room and now Alex has to go on a bizarre but mundane fetch quest in order to free her, or a talking gecko, or Alex helps wash Beth's car and wardrobe malfunctions ensue, or we find out Beth didn't want to leave home one day because she got a bovine temp changes after a solo battle (and we proceed to milk it for all its worth), or John starts trying to get involved with magic via other sources of a questionable nature, or help TENKA deal with demonic (or otherwise not-normal) fleas.

You side step out of the way, refraining from backing into the exit as you pull a mirror from your book, charging it with magic as you take too much from the world around you.

The woman in a straight jacket follows after you, ignoring Kat entirely as she starts to slow down watching you carefully.

Wanting to get Shadow Alex out and about as soon as possible so as to not get caught with your pants down, you throw the mirror up and let the magic force you into a cross counter.

Shadow Alex recovers before you do, only to have to dive out the way as the woman reaches into her jacket and pulling out a belt that she quickly throws.

You scramble to your feet in time to hear more than see a fireball explode against her back, singeing her hair. She glares back at Kat and starts charging towards her.

I honestly hope you don't go shoving PLOT down our throats, what makes this quest great is the lack of PLOT charging over the horizon, where we just take things day by day, spending time with our friends and family, taking care of them and being a chill badass.

All of that largely gets torn up and thrown away in the face of plot. I come into this quest to sit down and chill out, relax and interact with the cool characters and occasionally sling magic around all fancy like, I don't want plot in this.

I'll be honest, I've been staring at this mostly blank update for the last hour an some change, and have gotten fucking no where due to thinking about plot hooks while drinking more than I should.

Instead of pretending that I'll update tonight I might just turn this into a Q/A with a discussion and maybe a recap of previous threads if I can get around to summarizing things.

I have managed to come to several conclusions during this time though, one of which being: in regards to aura of normal I think people who are looking for something that's wrong'll see through it but casual glances will be fooled.

This will prevent the full hand wave it was before while not contradicting no bullshit I think.

I get you all likely don't have much to ask about due to slow pacing though.
>>
>>39983789
>while not contradicting no bullshit I think.
not really, if we order a aura of normalcy and pay for it with cores, and it doesn't deliver, then that violates the no bullshit clause

I honestly don't see issue with it hand waving or trivialising things, its fucking magic, thats what the fucking goddamned cores to, they trivialise things, they give you bullshit free wishes, pure distilled untainted wishes

why should they not trivialise the things they are ordered to deal with? otherwise its just not worth spending cores on them.
>>
>>39983789
>people who are looking for something that's wrong'll see through it
So everyone in highschool? I really think that trying to find holes in the AoN is stupid and trivialises and denegrates the AoN and makes it not anywhere near worth it compared to when we first decided to get it.
>>
>>39983872
>So everyone in highschool?
What. From the way it currently reads they would need to be actively looking for something 'wrong' or 'off' not just looking at a person.

Yeah, I was on the hesitant side to even try as there's not a whole lot of ways you can move around 'intent of the wish, not wording.'

Not just suspicious, but downright malicious.

>A fair point as well, why expend shit when it won't fix the problem you're fucking wasting time and effort yeah?
Exactly, it's an all or nothing deal, it either does what it says, or you may as well remove it for being entirely useless.
>>
>>39984012
>Yeah, I was on the hesitant side to even try as there's not a whole lot of ways you can move around 'intent of the wish, not wording.'
Well with your current line of thinking on the thing, the AoN achieves neither the intent nor the wording of the deal.
>>
>>39984012
>Yeah, I was on the hesitant side to even try as there's not a whole lot of ways you can move around 'intent of the wish, not wording.'
What of AoN covering current changes and having to spend extra cores to cover future changes? I think it was suggested last thread. Interesting idea if nothing else.

Does Alex practicing her magic also benefit Shadow Alex? It seems that way, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Did Kat go to school before this summer started? Does she want to go to school?
Hypothetically, if there were such a thing as a high school for magic beings (perhaps the diplomas from which had their own auras of normality?), would buying a transfer and admittance to the school with a modest amount of cores be an option?

I am pretty hesitant to do such a thing as it'd pretty much fuck you on any temp changes and make people more shy at using shadow credits.

Practicing magic helps both of you, yes.

She did, though once she ran from foster home she stopped going. You should consider asking her for the second bit.

Yes, as long as core equivalent to AoN was accomplished.

That violates the No Bullshit clause anon.

It either works or it doesn't. It also makes it almost entirely worthless to buy until we get really bad changes.

Here's the thing, it isn't broken, not at all, thats EXACTLY how it is meant to work, imbalanced as some may perceive it to be.

>>39984108
That just completely removes its usefulness by having it have an upkeep, that means that we don't get the intent of the wish, and we don't get 'no bullshit' with it.

Hap dude, step back for a second, go clear your head then come back to this, because it's not broke, your just trying to find a way it might be broke, and in the process breaking it yourself.

I missed the 'nt or rather: "wasn't broke"

It would entirely skew the economy at play between saving/spending cores, earning/spending SCs, keeping/wishing away changes and would also mean we have to keep buying AoN's which goes against intent and spirit of the wish.

gonna continue tomorrow Hap?

While wishes are supposed to be straight up you-get-what-you-want, affordability is a factor as well. You could just have TENKA give the option of a cheaper version of the aura that doesn't cover temp changes.
>>
>>39984690
what would the point of that be then? may as well just use our magic instead, theres literally no reason to do that instead of spending a core on the AoN which is incredibly useful and vital for us going back to school
>>
>>39984710
The point would be to cover up permanent changes? Like being a girl?

Temp changes only last about half a day, so we'd just have to time our fights, and be careful with our sick day usage. And, like you said, we could potentially fall back on our magic if we need to, though that's probably something we'd need to practice a fair bit in order to use it throughout the school day, and has the risk of faltering.

Not sure, let the thread die. I'll make another if I figure things out, and am less moody from life.

If the threads still alive then through chatter I'll let you all know with either an update or post saying I'm bouncing.

Take care Hap, make sure to hide your wallet and keys from BoozeHap!
