It’s been nearly a week since Hiss rejected her own advance and more or less made things real awkward. You got over it pretty quickly despite your own forestalled excitement but for Hiss...it seems to be a bit of a different matter. She hasn’t shown her face for days and it’s starting to get a little concerning. You’ve wound up in her room multiple times since then but she’s steadfastly remained in snake form every time.

Besides that, you’ve spent your days constructively or so you hope. Still doing your best to puzzle through the book, continuing your painful training with Oster and experimenting.

But what experiments exactly?

> Focused mainly on the bunyip hair.

> Focused mainly on snakeskin.

>Focused mainly on scales.

>Focused mainly on venom.

>Focused mainly on snake blood.

>You spent less time experimenting and more time picking through what was left of your Journeyman books to shore up your fundamentals

Let's us make more combos with stuff later.
>>
>>39978865
Fundamentals are lame. Snake blood is completely uncharted territory in alchemy.
>>
>>39978906
It's all spirit shit. It also needs a source meaning hiss or Constrictor.

Hiss is having a Hissy fit, and hurting the constrictor is suicide.
>>

Just because the idea of each time we saw her she's left only skins.

> Focused mainly on snakeskin.

The shed skin of a snake carries with it powerful transmutation properties, which makes sense as it is the medium through which Hiss and her kind affect their own shapechanging. A potion with snakeskin is always transformative in some regard.
You already still have some snakeskin with you and harvesting more is easy, all you have to do is search Hiss' room. The snake hisses at you from its spot by the fireplace but does little else to stop you.

You may pick three potions from the following list:

> Alteration Brew: This potion is your best emulation of Master Yolan's shapeshifting potion and can alter superficial features for a few minutes.

> Dandelion Elixir: Spreading this on any plant life causes it to break out in a plague of yellow flowers that are all quite alchemically potent.

> Descaling Fluid: Inspired by your current dilemma, this also mixes in snake scales in order to make a brew that forces a snake in natural form to assume the last form they took.

> Youth Cream: Does not actually make anyone younger but gives the appearance. Not useful but you could probably sell it for mad bank.

> Rumpleskin: Mixed with an acidic concoction, this potion causes the skin of anyone it touches to seize up in pebbly lumps and immobilize them for a few hours or until they receive an alchemical cure.

> The Dud: The Dud transforms other potions. When sprayed or splashed, it transforms anything alchemical into messy water and separates potions into their component ingredients.

> Collapsibility Brew: While you can't emulate the effects of Eugene's rejects just yet, this potion shrinks any non-living object it comes into contact with for easy storage and transport.

> Silent Brew: This potion can be added to any other potion to make it appear as a different brew of your choice. Excellent for tricking people into drinking things.
>>

Most of this is crap.

>>39979406
Spirit magic wouldn't be much better right now. We need to stock up on basic so we can combo better.
>>
>>39979420
It's not spirit magic it's soul magic. There's a difference and the uses of soul alchemy could be amazing. It has never been done before
>>
>>39979307
> Silent Brew: This potion can be added to any other potion to make it appear as a different brew of your choice. Excellent for tricking people into drinking things.

So we can actually poison people or do shady shit.
> Youth Cream: Does not actually make anyone younger but gives the appearance. Not useful but you could probably sell it for mad bank.

We have to benefit from this shit somehow, if we can't become a literal snake oil salesperson we might as well become a plastic surgeon.
> Descaling Fluid: Inspired by your current dilemma, this also mixes in snake scales in order to make a brew that forces a snake in natural form to assume the last form they took.

This acts as a trump card against anyone dumb enough to try to replicate our little trick against us, it means if anyone decided to go and dragon themselves out we can just revert them back to there original form.
>>
>>39979420
This isn't crap, this is all extremely useful in its own niche way. We just need to decide which niches we want to be able to fill.

For all the times these potions are useful we have our trusty acid, venom, and explosive potions.
>>
>>39979470
Except we have no idea what we're doing and soul magic right now would be even more useless since we have limited options with it.

Well yeah, Cennen's done almost nothing with snakeskin before. You had to brew the Snake Oil before you made the Snakebreaker Flask.

> Alteration Brew: This potion is your best emulation of Master Yolan's shapeshifting potion and can alter superficial features for a few minutes.

You add several new recipes to your repertoire, increasing the breadth of your power further. You also spend a significant time getting a proper understanding of how to brew snakeskin, a reagent you admit that you haven't done much with.
Snake scales is probably your 'strongest' field if only because you've already practiced so much with it. But now you think that any further investigation into snakeskin might yield grander results.

In addition, you were not entirely focused on just this one reagent for the past few days. You've spent a trifling time on something else.

> Pick one of the previous ingredient choices or the journeyman books for your minor focus.

Pick one (1) from the following list:

> Greater Restoration. This brew wipes out all fatigue and counts as over ten hours of sleep from just drinking it. Leaves you very energetic.

> Hyperactivity. Crowds the mind with energy, leaving the imbiber unable to follow any proper trains of thought and rendering them unable to focus on anything for a few hours.

> Hearty. This doesn't cure poisons or disease but it does vastly increase the drinker's resistance to them for the next day.

> Potency. You could refine a brew that fills one with the strength and endurance of the Bunyip for a limited time.

You also do a little more work with the Bunyip hair, it's not like you have a limited supply. And getting it from the Bunyip is always fun. It doesn't sulk for days on end, that's for sure.

This continues until the seventh night. There's a storm out and the sea is rough. You're sitting in Hiss' room flicking through your book while she's coiled up by the fire and is either asleep or pretending to be. You don't fancy being bitten trying to find out.

You haven't had any trouble adjusting to your sea-legs like some people apparently do but even you are starting to feel a little queasy from the ship's movement now.
You can hear thunder and the ship almost feels like its bouncing up and down amidst the storm. It's not pleasant.

You get to your feet unsteadily as the ship shudders beneath you. You think about taking Hiss in your pack but you decide to leave her be. She might try to bite you if you touch her now and if there is something dangerous up on the deck being trapped in your pack would hardly be a great place for her.

You do your best to stumble through the shaking corridors of the deck, throwing the doors open to find a deck lashed with rain. The air is filled with thunder, the sound of rain on wood and bellowing Quedeshi profanities.
The slippery deck is swarming with sailors and to each side you can see the wine-dark depths rising up on either side of the ship. The ship crests another wave and you are nearly thrown from your feet.

You look up into an iron sky, the stars and moon obscured by swollen clouds lit only by the flicker of lightning.

You stumble back and nearly trip over Tash. The masked ambassador doesn't say anything but simply shoves you aside as the captain of the vessel, a plump Quedeshi with a bristling mustache wider than his face does his best to bow to him under the conditions.

They jabber at each other in their own tongue, leaving you entirely left out. The Captain has a map but it is one of winds and sea currents and you cannot read it.

"Excuse me?"

Tash starts, as if he truly didn't notice you were there.
"Ah, Cennen. Please secure your lady."

"What's going on?"

"A storm, what does it looks like? Most unseasonal."
He sounds calm, with only a hint of tension in his voice.
"I've been told that we may have to take emergency port with one of the Teeth. It might be messy."

Shit, what can you even do about a storm? If it's spirit-born than you could just drive that back but if it is natural than it is dumb and deaf and cannot be reasoned with.

Bunyip is probably submerged to avoid the storm. He'll be fine
>>
Yo Ouro which brews do we actually have made right now?
>>
> Run to get Hiss.

You stagger back down through the ship as the rocking increases. Taking port with the Teeth? That can't end well. From what little Oster has told you of the jagged islands that rim the Jheri Bay, you know that they are inhospitable and populated by savages besides.
Not to mention that the phrase 'emergency port' doesn't really fill you with confidence.

You throw open the door only to find Oster already in Hiss' room. Oh, of course this would be the fist place he'd come. He's trying to pick up Hiss, his words lost in the racket but the snake is recoiling from him with her fangs bared.
Luckily Oster occupies all of her attention so you can just sneak in behind her and grab her behind the head. Hiss twists in vain to bite you but you just stuff her in your pack and latch it up tight.

Oster shouts something at you but you can't hear him anymore. He doesn't seem too annoyed. He points out the door. The other snake? You can't tell. Surely someone is already taking care of that one?

You direct a quick prayer for Hiss to please stop writhing around inside your pack or else she might break one of your potions. This actually stops her for a moment before she restarts the writhing once again, this time twice as hard.

You sigh as you run across the hallway to the other room, the one the constrictor was living in.
The room is very similiar to Hiss' room, in fact you might even wager that they've been outfitted the exact same way. What immediately draws the eye is the huge carved chest, one currently being slowly dragged along the ground by two of Tash's faceless soldiers.

Aw hell, you probably shouldn't help. This isn't any of your business and where the hell are they planning to take the chest anyway?
And yet here you are, helping anyway.

You reach into your pack for Potence, praying for Hiss not to bite your hand. She listens and you take a swig, feeling sudden strength and power flood your body.

You get your hands under a corner of the chest and begin to lift. The men try to speak to you in Quedeshi but fall silent after a few seconds, no doubt realizing that they can't talk to you.
Hiss could translate for you but she'd have to be human for that and also not in your pack.

Nevertheless, all three of you share the same intent and that communicates itself just fine. They don't even seem that distrustful of you! You recall what Hiss said about your draconic actions in the dock making it so that they never had to fight the Snakecatcher. You might have saved their lives for all you know and they seem pretty respectful.

Their 'still & silent' act is starting to fall apart under the circumstances and you can see their eyes widen behind the chain veils as you take the weight of the chest.

Together the three of you carry it out of the room and start heading downwards. It looks like they want to deposit it in the very bottom of the ship's hold. You follow their wordless instructions as you all struggle to both keep the chest high and to keep your footing in the shaking corridors.

Nobody else is done in the hold, you imagine they're all busy. You let out a groan as together you slowly deposit the chest onto the ground. That wasn't so bad.
Hell, even the ship's stopped shaking so much. Seems like you're finally in clearer wate-

An unholy din blasts your ears as the whole ship rumbles and a splinter of rock smashes through the bottom of the ship's hold, carving a gash along the bottom and up along the wall. Water rushes in with enough force to splinter the black wood and widen it further.

Aw nuts.

In retrospect the bottom of the ship was the worst possible place to go in this situation
>>
Looks like it's the Bunyip's time to shine once again. And we should be pretty great at swimming with increased strength and endurance
>>
> Secure your pack!

You do your best to hold onto your pack as the water rushes towards you. You've got way too much in here to lose it to some bullshit like this!

And then the water slams you into the opposite wall and lacking any proper handhold, you are dragged under.
You drift through the water reeling for a moment before you reorient yourself and try to make for the surface. Are you still in the ship? Where the fuck are you? How long were you under for?
Your pack is waterproof but how long can it stay latched shut for? You have snakes and books in there!

You break the surface with a shout, gasping for breath amidst the waves as the storm rages around you. Fuck, you must have been dragged out of the ship. Where is it?
You can barely spot the ship in this weather and you're getting dragged further and further from it. You can see rocks breaking the surf around you and just above the tips of the immense waves, a lonely peak of stone towering above the waters.
The Teeth. They'd gotten here at least.

You do your best to swim but you don't have the right leverage to best use your enhanced strength and you feel that it might have only been your enhanced endurance that kept you conscious beneath the water.

And then something soft slaps against your feet. You're not alone.
The Bunyip rises from beneath you, doing its best to keep you on its back as it surfaces! You grab hold of its neck as best you can.

You do your best to nudge the Bunyip towards the closest thing resembling land and it obeys, even the great beast struggling to make its way through the waves now that it is up among the turmoil upon the surface.
You do your best to hold on with your pack out of the rain as much as possible.

In the periphery of your vision, you see the stark Tooth getting closer and closer as the Bunyip keeps swimming. You can only see the one right now though you know that there are hundreds, the barrier archipelago that guards the Jheri Bay.

You feel the blackness about the edges of your vision rising up, something you're well familiar with now. Only the effects of Potence keep them at bay and only it lets you keep clinging to the Bunyip for dear life as it strives forward.

You lose track of time and space within the storm, just clutching to the Bunyip in a trance. And then your foot scrapes against the bottom and you are lifted free and dropped on a steep beach made of sand and gravel.

The rain is still pounding down but the air is quieter and the Bunyip drags you up further, away from the waves. It licks you along the face with a foul-smelling tongue and you finally drift off.

...

Dawn is breaking when you wake and you're still on the beach. You can tell first by feeling the warmth and then by seeing the light that a fire has been lit across from you.

A strange person is silhouetted against the light, looking down at you. This all feels very familiar and for a moment you think it's Hiss but you can make out just enough to know you've never seen this person before in your life.

Strange people live in the Teeth.

No point in trying to start something with whoever this is. Best to just be polite and non-threatening. You win every battle you don't fight.
"H-hello? Uh, I don't suppose you speak Avling do you?"

Your eyes adjust to the light and you notice that they are brown-skinned and seem to be wearing the same coarse vests and trousers that the sailors of your ship had been wearing. She's also very obviously a woman, something that throws you for a bit.
She says something to you in Quedeshi before changing tack.
"I...don't speak tongue well. You safe?"
The words are forced and the bad translation almost feels heavy handed.

You don't remember seeing any female sailors aboard the ship, much less one that actually knew some of your language!
The sailor woman pulls you closer to the fire with a casual strength.

It is there in the light that you finally get a good look at her, noticing that her right eye is covered with an eyepatch. She continues speaking.
"Don't speak well. But I know you. Rest."

> You know what's going on here but you're willing to pretend you don't.

You look askance at the sailor-girl. You wouldn't miss any woman working on the ship, particularly not one with those proportions. She looks like she should be modelling a corset somewhere, not working on a ship.

You're pretty sure you know exactly what's going on here. Hiss escaped from your bag and had to take human form to help you, especially since you might have just dragged her into a wish-bond again accidentally. But she's still embarrassed about what happened so she's trying to hide her identity with a different form.
She's not doing a great job of it because she's beautiful but you're not going to complain about it.

Now, you could either tell you know exactly what's up and make things awkward again or you could have some fun with this. You choose the latter option as you search through pack.
"Oh shit! Have you seen a, uh, snake anywhere? She's not here!"

"She went someplace, will come back soon."

"Okay. That's a relief. You don't know how much she means to me."

You hear her breath catch in her throat but she stays silent.

"Is there anything to eat?"

She motions to a what appears to be half of a very large rat. It isn't even singed. She throws it in the fire a moment later.

"Nah, it's fine I can make do."
You get your kit out of your pack and start cooking up a restoration brew. That should fill both of your stomachs.

In the meantime though, you can't help but think of the best way to have some fun with this absurd charade.

> You know, she's pretty great but I wish she would tell me what's on her mind. She's been acting very strange lately.

You fetch the restoration brew off the fire and give an exaggerated 'oof' at how hot it is.
"Do you want some?"

"Sure."

You drink first, feeling energy flood back through you. Ah, that's the stuff.
She reaches out for the bottle but you swoop down in a gentle movement and sit right by her side before offering it to her. She doesn't stop you.

"Sorry, I'm feeling a bit cold."
You put the arm around her shoulder as she drinks and she smiles.

"Shouldn't you be treating your snake this way? I'm just a sailor."
She's dropped the forced mistranslation and sounds a lot better for it.

"Well..."
You hold her closer and she acquiesces, leaning in against your chest.
"She's great but I just wish she told me what's on her mind right now. It's been weird lately."

She looks at you, her eyes narrowed.
"She's just going through some stuff. She's at a fork in the road and she doesn't know what path she ought to take. She asserted herself but underneath all of it, she's a little scared and unsure. And now she can't bear to be with him because it makes her think of how she can't tell him how it feels and that with each day, with each day spent in my fit it feels like there's more and more reason to say nothing. When I choose to do something I always make sure I take it to the end, I assert myself and make my will reality. But what about when I don't know what to do?"

She then jabs you in the ribs with no small amount of force, knowing the wind out of you.
"Arsehole."
She doesn't say it unkindly.

You wheeze and puff but you don't move away until you can speak.
"...You're welcome."

She strokes your hair. She doesn't sound very angry, only tired and somewhat annoyed.
"Remember when I said we needed to talk about the airs you give yourself? More than ever, now. Why won't you remember your place?"1/2

"Preferably soon."

Aside from losing the ship and all that.

I'd say we tease her for a bit, and then maybe wish that after she's free she doesn't have to give wishes to anyone who catches her? Because that's kind of a big thing for her enemies to be able to do to her.

We might even bring it up that it's safer for us to hold a wish to prevent that, since we'll pretty much do what she wants anyways.

She shrugs.
"You were alone when I built the fire. I don't know where it's buggered off to or why. Disgusting creature."

Oh dear, you hope something hasn't happened to it. It's probably just out having a bit of a swim or something.

"As for the ship," Hiss continue. "I think I saw it run aground on the other side of the island. I wanted to go check it out but..."
She tightens her grip further to the point where it's a little painful and you're basically forced into her bosom. Not that you're resisting that bit.

"This wishbond," you manage to say. "Yeah, yeah I'll make a wish. Uh...I wish that you had the power to rapidly regenerate permanent damage from scars and injuries."

Hiss lets go of you though you decide you're pretty happy staying where you are right now.
She feels her face slowly, flipping her eyepatch up. She grimaces at what she feels beyond it.

"Maybe that helped a little. But I don't think being able to heal like that is ever in my power. You might as well ask me to raise the dead. Still, I appreciate the intent."
Her hand tugs at the buttons of your shirt.
"I really appreciate it."

She fumbles with your buttons somewhat until you lend her a hand. Then you lend her another and she tenses as her fangs come out as you undo her vest. They almost immediately recede, sheathing themselves as her eyes widen.
"Oh, I guess the wishbond has SOME use then."

You nearly go for a kiss before you remember and instead she pushes you to the ground as she pushes her own trousers down. You can feel the sand and gravel in your back and oh wow this is actually really uncomfortable. You don't complain though because you don't think it'd stop her.

A forked tongue tastes the air and things start to get interesting.
By which I mean fucking skeletons come out of the darkness and kick Hiss off you. Yes, really.

Hiss gets to her feet instantly, hissing defiance while you're left lying down, feeling increasingly frustrated and also really confused.
There are six skeletons in all, each of them covered in rusted armour and huge seal-skin capes but skeletons nonetheless. Barely any flesh remains on them as far as you can see and their eyes are empty. Each of them is holding some sort of curved hand-axe. Some of them have ancient blood still crusting the blade.

The first skeleton falls over when Hiss touches it but the second just pulls out a bronze-shod spear from behind its back and uses it to drive her back while remaining safely away.

What the fuck are these things? Skeletons don't just move around on their own after death or so you hope. The skeleton collapses when Hiss touched it tells you that they're something like the Children, human souls trapped in unliving bodies.

Still, what the fuck do you think they're doing? You were finally getting somewhere! Can't they go and be unexplained mysteries of the ocean somewhere else?

You grab your pack from where Hiss had thrown it but one of the five remaining skeletons kicks it away with a surprisingly agile movement. His axe is held forward threateningly so you let him herd you back because you're only wearing pants right now and you don't fancy your chances blocking an axe with your torso.
But this backward movement only leads you back to the downed skeleton and you take up his axe.

...You really don't have much of an idea on how to use an axe, now that you think about it. Goddamn, you need your pack!

And then the skeleton drops his axe. The other four quickly follow suit as they examine the skeleton that Hiss felled. The spear falls to the ground.
One by one, they take the knee and prostrate themselves before her.

Hiss looks really confused but also happy.

Hiss looks puzzled as she stands among the kneeling skeletons. It's a weird tableau, especially considering that she is completely naked.
"Cennen, do you know what's going on here?"

You shake your head.
"No clue. I'm keeping this axe though."
You get as close to one of the skeletons as you can and still feel safe.
"What's your deal?"

The skeleton looks at you, its gray face showing no emotion save a rictus grin. It looks you up and down before actually speaking, bony jaw stuttering out a mangled, archaic Avling.
"Kills that. We die. Can die. Help die. Thanking you."

"I uh, think they want to die? They seem pretty impressed by you being able to kill them."

Hiss wrinkles her nose.

We can let them die, but nothing comes for free. We don't ask them to help us as a threat, however, we rely on their own sense of honour to do it.

> "I can wish for you to regurgitate them later, I guess."

You shrug.
"You don't need to worry that much about that. Still got one wish left. Can use that to get you to spit them back out."

Hiss smiles.
"Yeah, that works."
She reaches out her hand but you forestall her, praying to her to wait just a little while.
There's something you need to know first.

You lift your axe and bring it down upon the head of one of the kneeling skeletons. It takes you several tries but you eventually chop it off. The body just picks up the head and puts it back on, not even looking at you.
"Huh. Okay, go for it."

Hiss brushes past each one of them, causing each to collapse as naught but a pile of bones and old equipment.
In the end, she is left standing naked and smirking in the circle of human skulls.
"They taste disgusting but at least they had the right attitude."

"Right, well do you want me to wish for-"

She stalks forward and silences you by putting a finger in your mouth.
"Not just yet."
She looks you up and down and bites back a laugh.
"We still need the wish-bond for something first."

She puts a hand on your shoulder and forces you down.
"Fuck them. I haven't been able to see you properly for a week because I was being an idiot. I'm going to right my mistake now."

You take your pants off and to her credit she only giggles a little at you suppose has to be inherent absurdity of the penis that must be present to a species that do not have them.

"Jeez, you're making me feel unappreciated."

"Right now Cennen, I don't care what you feel."

Naturally.

bit of a spoiler, that's actually hyperbole done for the last line. He's not a king or any sort of noble. The court is legit mind you.

Anomaly I go to sleep and you vote for smut we'll never see that fucks us over badly, why?
>>
>>39987848
Learn to play maybe?

Cennen wanted to get in her pants since always. We didnt vote for smut, do you even see any smut in the thread?

> Cennen wanted to get in her pants since always
True but Cennen knew there was dangerous shit out there that could fuck him and Hiss over, and all snobs thought off was sex sex sex. It's like they got off on the idea. It's a miracle this quest is still running considering how stupid in aggregate we players seem to be.
>>
>>39988352
you seem upset anon
>>
>>39988434
Just a bit, seems like we're backsliding into the mindset that got us fucked over so often earlier on in this quest
>>
>>39988352
>and all snobs thought off was sex sex sex
correction
>all he thought off was sex sex sex
like billions of other virgin teenage boys who did stupid things for sex.

What, you thought you could get your perfect mc who always acted exactly as you wanted?
>>
>>39988471
Except you know doing it in the middle of a fresh battleground with obvious signs of necromancy like at Tedwell with the children. I don't expect perfect but some common sense would be nice.
>>
>>39988469
Hopefully you with your vastly superior intelligence will swoop in and save the quest from all us snobs
>>
>>39988498
1 it's using common sense
2 everyone in playing has it
3 just because you can't defend why you turned yours off doesn't mean you should be a passive aggressive tumblrfag over it
4 this is a group game one anon can't change shit except through rampant samefagging
5 I'm not going to samfag too much effort for too little reward
>>
>>39988569
so much butthurt in this faggot.
>>
I was thinking, in theory couldn't you feed someone with scars a regeneration potion and then completely cut away the old wound? This might make it so the damaged area fully regenerates.
>>
>>39989814
Might work but Hiss would probably bite whoever tried on instinct unless a wish bond was involved, and even then she'd be pissed over more likely than not.
