Interlude: Distant Thunder

You watch dawn break, leaning against a tree on a hilltop with a good view of the district. Paying particular attention to the skyline of the city near the bay you glance back over the whole of Juuban. Its a nice park, there are many nice parks...but this one has a nice view.

They told you everything last night...your mother and sister. And it turns out your twin only learned things herself recently. The fight with Koyomi’s sister in the cafe was apparently the fall out of her learning.

Koyomi.

You slump down against the tree, your head reeling over what happened on the rooftop. It all plays out in your head, the subtle complaining you’ve done over Osaka-senpai in her presence. The way you never really took her seriously...the way you doted after the idea of the missing third…

High pitched but low output engine noises draw your attention to the path. Your sister, on her delivery bike, pulls off her helmet and strides over to you.

“You left early,” she accuses without malice and sits down next to you.

“Yeah, woke up early,” you sigh and look away.

“You left this in the kitchen,” she says and passes a thermos to you.

Holding it, you barely remembered brewing anything this morning. You must have...but it feels so far away. So distant.

“You’re mad, aren’t you Koito,” Kanari groans and stares up at the gradient brightening of the sky, “I was mad,”

“No, you threw a tantrum,” you chuckle and crack open the lid and pour yourself a cup.

She seems embarrassed, curling her knees to her chest and crossing her arms over them. Tucking her chin behind the defensive wall.
>>
>>39999217
“Okay, I might have thrown a tantrum...but then what are you doing?”

“Thinking,” you admit, “About all of it. About what mom did for everyone...for us. About what you and Koyomi are doing for everyone,”

Pausing, you take a sip and pass her the cup lid. What you say next may be a mistake given what you know about your sister...but you’ll test the water anyway.

“About what Mikage did for-”

“Don’t tip toe around me!” she barks and uncoils her defensive body language before taking a long drag from the cup, “Yeah I have issues with her, but she’s YOUR damn hero. I’m not gonna rip your head off if you bring her up. She IS part of this,”

You nod as she roughly hands the lid back to you.

“So then,” you nod, “What happened to her? It couldn’t just have been what happened to Osaka-senpai,”

“No...its...argh I never thought I’d have to tell anyone this story,” your sister grouses while kicking her legs a bit while rocking back from her seated position next to you and ruffling her own hair with both hands in frustration.

“Should I ask her at the...whatever the hell this thing is going to be today?”

“No. I can tell you this. I heard it freaking twice over anyway,” she sighs, “I just don’t know how to begin,”

“You can take your time. I wasn’t leaving anytime soon...I was trying to figure out how to say goodbye to mom,” you shrug.

“Having trouble with that, too,” she huffs.

You sit there for a minute in silence. Its comfortable and uncomfortable. Your sister finds where she wishes to start.

“The way she told it,” she begins, “starts after the fight, Osaka-san human again and talking about her dad,”

She tells it well, and you listen. Its sad to learn just how vulnerable your hero is, how human. It reminds you, that in the end even heroes need people to believe in them.

And you believe in Sailor Moon.

Quest Start

You sit on your sister’s bed, as the depression in the soft mattress topper that previously held your baby sister slowly rises back up to a smooth and depression free surface. She had rocketed out of the room at the arrival and call from the Tsukinos, your maternal grandparents. It makes you smile, you also love seeing your grandmother and grandfather...even if you’ve avoided it like everything else as of late. The barest and briefest sensation of guilt for avoiding even them flickers across your awareness, but is crushed against the juggernaut that is your good mood this morning.

So perhaps you should head down to see them.

You are Mikage Chiba, second year highschool student 15 years old and formerly the third champion of Love & Justice known as Sailor Moon. Koyomi, your baby sister who just rocketed out of bed while still in her pajamas, is the fourth after you passed the mantle worn by your mother and elder sister down to her. Your reasons for abandoning that calling and to an extent your own life feel a million miles away from you right now, even the sadness at your mother’s imminent departure from the planet earth feels far away.

A part of you suspects this is artificial, so you’ll enjoy it while it lasts. This emotional freedom feels like...you. How you used to be. However fleeting such a thing may ultimately be.

Well, your grandparents are here. You just lied to Koyomi’s face about something because you are clever. Mom and dad were waking up before you hopped in the shower, so they might already be downstairs...and you have no clue about Usa and her accompaniment.

Rising off the bed yourself, you calmly head downstairs to meet your arriving grandmother and grandfather. It's been some time since you’ve really seen them, which you have no good excuse for considering you all live in the same town. In fact it is a little embarrassing.

When you reach the bottom of the stairs, your long pink hair unbound and flowing behind you, you see your grandfather setting your petit baby sister down from a lifting and swinging hug.

Kenji Tsukino, your grandfather, is still has a young face for a man just past the end of his forties. His neatly cropped hair grays just over his ears and he wears a simple light colored polo shirt and slacks.

Ikuko Tsukino, your grandmother, stands with her long and voluminous fading blue hair tied back at the base of her neck. She wears a collared light sweater and a long skirt as is her usual fashion.

The two look up at your descent in surprise as Koyomi continues to bound around them excitedly at their arrival.

“Ah!” your grandfather smiles and then looks suddenly perplexed as Koyomi hangs off of his neck, “Us- wait...no way. Mikage-chan?! You’ve gotten so tall!”

“Mikage-chan,” your grandmother smiles and approaches you.

She stands a bit taller than you still, and wraps her arms around your waist in a tight hug.

“Usagi said you’d been coming back out into the world,” she smiles, “Its so good to see you smiling again,”

You’re smiling? Yeah, yeah you are.

Your arms whip out and in turn hug your grandmother tightly. She is at first shocked at the intensity of your hug, and maintains a gentle hold on you for a moment longer. When she relaxes, you charge from her to your grandfather and hug him tightly as well.

“Good to have you back, Mikage-chan,” he smiles and pats your head after the tight hug breaks between the two of you, “Look at you,”

He is suddenly in tears as he holds you away at arm’s length from your shoulders.

“You and Koyomi are already young women,” he is in tears, “How has time gone by so quickly,”

Your grandmother walks up calmly to the two of you and pats him softly on the shoulder.

“There there, dear,” she sighs lightly.

Koyomi excitedly begins telling your grandmother something about Koito Kino, but you’ve tuned it out as you happily sit down on the couch with your grandfather. Conversation is brief before your father comes down the stairs followed by your mother and everyone begins happily catching up.
>>
>>40002032
Your grandmother seems a bit sad that your mother will be gone for so long, but she assuages her fears as the two and your father join Luna in the kitchen to prepare this household’s part of what you now hear tell of being a fairly sizable picnic. Grandfather Kenji sighs as Koyomi plops down on his other side.

You get a message from Kairi that her mother just left to prep the action site for the departures later today and said she’d meet you at the gathering. Koyomi is busy with her phone, squealing about something or other, and you are debating what or when to message Keiko and Midori.

“EEEE!” your sister continues to squeal, “Koito said he wants to talk about everything later today and that he recognizes my feelings! HAHA! Fortune favors the brave!”

Your grandfather sighs again.

“Growing up so fast,” he cries a bit, “That’s always been harder to wrap my head around than the whole magical princess thing,”

~Wait, what?~ you ask and gauge the situation.

You pause and take a look at your sister on the other side of grandfather Kenji. Her eyes shine with the familiar enamorment and hope of love. The promise of heartfelt expression and the twinkle of indecent intent therein. Calmly, you stand and walk over to the kitchen, where amid the flurry of activity you obtain a glass of water.

As you slowly fill the glass, you text a quick confirmation to Kairi and explain in brief your plan to Keiko and Midori about her attendance in the interest of keeping everyone’s story straight. Kairi will change course and meet you at the house, Keiko will meet everyone there, and Midori will arrive staggered. You are met with positive response, though Midori continues to wonder why everyone is continuing to play cloak and dagger with this around the younger Senshi.

Diana is playing with little Diana and watches your methodical actions as you return to the living room. Standing before your sister, she looks up at your confused as you dip your fingers into the glass and then flick them in the general direction of her face.

~Down girl,~ you say with a sigh, ~Don’t go at this so hot and calm your nerves,~

You grandfather watches, worried.

“Calm my nerves?” she wipes the water off of her face and puffs her cheeks, “What about you, miss fight date?!”

“Fight date?”

~Nothing to worry about, Grandfather,~ you smile, ~Being a magical girl may be suffered, but being a teenage girl is war,~

“Yes, I have to agree with you on that,” he nods and crosses his arms, “Wait, you’re dating again? I can’t imagine that nice Sakurada boy would have a fight date?”

You suppress an annoyed frown, your little sister has turned this around on you. It is time to think tactically.

~It wasn’t a date,~ you say with self assured confidence as a matter of fact, ~He’s a boxer,~

“So you’re picking fights with boxers?” your grandfather asks, perplexed.

~Yes, but...I mean,~ well, this is frustrating so you change topics, ~So I wrestled a bear last week,~

“A bear?” Koyomi wonders.

“Like, a bear monster, an actual bear, or a big hairy okama?” your grandfather wonders in further confusion.

~No, an actual bear!~ you whip out your phone and show them pictures Midori & the others from that outing sent you.

“Oh, an actual bear,” your grandfather whistles.

“Whaaaaat?” Koyomi stares in amazement.

“Huh...you are wrestling a bear. A giant bear...are you dating the bear too?” he asks trying to get to the bottom of this.

~I’m not dating anyone!~ you grouse before slumping back on the couch, ~Argh...I have issues,~

“Its okay,” Grandfather Kenji pats you on the shoulder, “You’re family...and we have lots of issues. Did I ever tell you girls about the time I was about to surprise your mother with an early birthday gift, but caught half a conversation she was having with Luna-chan,”

You shake your head, mutedly.

“What happened,” Koyomi asks him curiously as you also receive a text from her requesting all the bear fight pictures.

“Well, she was talking with Luna about her...past life parents...and she was going on about how she couldn’t remember what her father looked like,” he sighs, “I took it pretty hard and thought it was a sign that I was putting too much overtime in at work and adjusted my schedule,”

You chat with him a bit more before Kairi arrives; and not before Usa and her guests descend and join everyone. In no time at all you are all loaded up with things to carry and on your way on foot to the site Mercury selected in a local park that she said would have an optimum view of the visual expression of the Teleportation.

You drift over to standing beside your mother among the massive group walking together. She smiles at you.

“Feeling better, honey?” she asks.

~Yeah,~ you smile up at her, ~Much better actually,~

“I was a bit worried about your fever, but I could feel something healing within you,” she pats your head, “Wow, your hair is really beautiful down. And so soft,”

~M-mom, you’re embarrassing me,~ you blush.

“Eh? Sorry. I’m a bit jealous of your and Usa’s hair,” she sighs, “No, a mother should never be jealous of her daughter,”

~Oh...I had a weird dream after I passed out,~ you explain.

“A weird dream?”

~I was talking to myself...my dark self,~ you explain, ~She came back to me and talking about who I was in all this and what I accept about myself now that I couldn’t before,~

“Has anything changed?”

~I don’t hear her...my voice in my head as a separate thing anymore,~ you say with some dejection, ~I can’t smell bad emotions anymore, but I still feel my fangs...and...I’ve been in the most amazing mood today. I just feel happy. I don’t doubt myself, I have no strange guilt...it's a bit strange,~

“Hmm, that does sound like a side effect of my magic,” your mother nods, “I’m sorry to say that it’ll wear off on you before too long,”

~Ah,~ you say rather neutrally, ~...so it is all going to come back later. I kind of like this,~

“Well,” she takes your hand in comfort, “Something to work toward, honey. And I wish I could be there to help you find it,”
>>
>>40005903
~I just came back and you have to leave,~ you sigh sadly, ~I know its important, but I still wish you and Usa-neechan didn’t have to leave,~

“I know, baby,” she leans over and hugs you, “I know,”

In no time at all you arrive at the park. It isn’t too crowded for a saturday morning, and you see the Kino have already arrived and all four of them are setting up a large blanket. They brought multiple food delivery containers.

“Koyomi-chan!” Kanari waves and rushes up to your baby sister before she can run over to Koito, who is blushing at the sight of your sister...until his eyes linger Kairi and then on you and then look away in guilt.

“What was that about?” Kairi wonders to you privately.

“Hello!” Keiko exclaims coming upon the scene and clapping you and Kairi on the back before turning to your mother and father, “Hello Chiba-sans!”

They chat a bit and you chat in kind with Keiko and Kairi.

Kairi actively seems concerned by your good mood, she was expecting you to be on the verge of tears today. You put her fears to rest and explain what is going on, she is relieved but confides in your her frustrations with Saori Umeki the night prior.

She not so subtly hints she would like you to take the edge off for her.

The Kumadas arrive next, bringing with them a few containers of ceremonial Sake. They are followed soon after by the Mizunos. In turn followed by the glasses wearing and poorly disguised Minako & Venus. Aunties Michiru and Haruka arrive on motorbike; and Setsuna just appeared as if she had been there the whole time.
>>
>>40005919
Rin’s father greets yours like an old friend, and asks him if he’d like join him to indulge in a little Sake before he leaves. You know he is supposed to be there to witness the departure in his capacity as diplomatic liaison.

Everyone sits down and starts talking to one another. The older Senshi seeming taking turns having a word with Keiko about her past life. She seems nervous, but you are pretty sure they don’t bear her any animosity. She only killed them twice, and they all got better.

...wow. Is there nothing that can get you down today?

Koito is looking over at your little contingent at the blanket, and is pouring a few paper cups full with coffee for whoever wants some. There is a certain nervousness about him, more so when he steals at glance at Koyomi who is surrounded by her friends and court.

Helios is telling a story to Usa and Tomoe-sensei...who is acting very un-Tomoe-sensei like.

As long as we're talking to them, I guess we should get them up to speed on our current situation.

Obtaining an assortment of snacks and picnic food among this pot luck of many families and blankets, you sit with Kairi and Keiko beneath a tree toward the outer edge of the gathering. Keiko seems relieved to no longer be a point of attention for the older senshi, and she was clamored and congratulated by the younger.

Venus thinks she is super pretty graceful. Keiko takes this directly to the ego, being complemented by an idol is a big deal.

~Oh, I wanted to thank you,~ you say to Keiko as she tries to choose which riceball of those she obtained from your family to start her meal with.

“Thank me?” she wonders.

~And Midori when she gets here...for you two helping stop me...from hurting the girls,~ you admit with a sigh.

You feel a bit...down about it but you are entirely bereft of guilt or actual sadness.

“Ahem,” Kairi makes a sound of fake offense.

“We didn’t do it alone,” Keiko admits and smiles as she claps you on the knee.

~Kairi-chan,~ you smile, ~I thank you everyday. You’re my best friend,~

“Probably doesn’t hurt to hear it,” Keiko jokes and Kairi laughs, “Seriously though. Chiba-san...Mikage. You saved me from...ceasing. You saved me from losing myself. I’ll protect you, and all of them, no matter what,”

“Likewise,” Kairi says and puts a hand on your shoulder.

You smile and laugh at that, and take a cursory look about the assembled party. Everyone is enjoying themselves. Aiha and her mother are even laughing together about something while talking to Setsuna. Briefly remembering the last time you saw the girl...it warms you that they are doing well.
>>
>>40006955
Even the briefest thought back to the vision Rin shared...it doesn’t pull you down. Especially because you’re averted it in two very strong ways. The original senshi will all be off earth, and you’ll be there.

No one is really looking at your group right now, so you decide to take the opportunity to make good on Kairi’s needs.

~Keiko, let me know if someone’s coming,~ you say.

“Why?” she asks as you become invisible and lean over into Kairi’s personal space.

She gasps and squeaks at your bite, and you mentally maintain and reactivate your powers of fading until your task is done.

Keiko watches this happen, well half of it anyway, with roses blossoming on her cheeks. Withdrawing from Kairi, greatly enjoying the familiar flavors of her suffering, you return to visibility and run you hand along your own neck. Your fangs remain extended, just because the sensation they feel exposed to air after use is good.

“Thanks Mikage-chan,” Kairi coos.

Keiko watches the two of you as you tuck into your physical food and Kairi seems more calm and at ease.

“So...are you two together?” Keiko asks in scrutiny.

You are in too good a mood to perform a spit take in surprise. However the question has been asked. Kairi almost chokes on her juice box.

While Kairi continues to choke on her juice and fails to physically be capable of forming a verbal response to that query, you put your hand to your chin in thought. Normally you imagine this would be the point in time where you’d be full of self doubt, but in your current state you honestly don’t give a fuck about some of the things that usually inhibit and define you.

~That’s up to Kairi-chan,~ you say honestly with a soft smile and a warm blush, ~There are few people I trust enough right now for that kind of intimacy, and if she made a move or was so inclined to confess those kind of feelings...~

Your best friend is blushing incredibly red. There is a flickering combination of worry, embarrassment, and curiosity spreading on her features. Usa joking about it was one thing, but for you to say something so bold is something else entirely.

“I mean,” she finally finds her voice, “I-that-there...never thought about-”

And then she’s entirely speechless. Blushing and speechless, she rocks back and forth a bit before grabbing her juice box and rising quickly.

“Ineedsomethingtoeatbebacksoonbye,” she stammers out in one breath and heads back over to the center of the contingent.

From the look of things from here, Kanari has been trying to keep her brother and Koyomi from being alone, to the boy’s frustration. Kairi’s arrival among them draws him over to talk to her...you can’t hear them but she looks further embarrassed. He seems oddly resolved and tired. You recall her plot to gauge his and Estra’s level of interest in her...but the idea of you seems to have set her off in a unique way.

Not disgusted or shutting it down either, just unprepared.
>>
>>40010204
“That was not what I was expecting,” Keiko breaks her silence and takes a bite out of her riceball and then gives you a mirthfully scrutinizing eye, “I mean, I knew she was gunning to Gai and trying to figure out how bad the Kino kid had it for her...didn’t really expect you to switch teams as well, Mikage,”

~That’s a complex thing though,~ you shrug and lean back before staring across the gathering at your older sister, ~One that I’m not going to get into right now,~

“No judgement,” she says, “Though I was just poking fun at the two of you,”

Honestly, even without the magical suffusion of happiness and contentedness in you, you still aren’t sure where you’ll wind up. After spending time thinking about this, you can say you definitely like boys and girls. It isn’t because that’s what Usa is, but it's who you are...and you think your first knight’s embarrassed blubbering was incredibly cute.

Kairi, somehow even reader after talking to Koito, goes over to tap Rin on the shoulder and draws her away from your sister’s group. Koyomi watches her a moment concerned by her obvious embarrassment, but then turns to the solo Koito who is moving with certain purpose.

Certain purpose toward you and Keiko. Kanari catches sight of his approach too before bristling and seemingly biting her tongue. At least that’s what you think from this distance.

“Excuse me, Chiba-san,” he gulps nervously, “could I speak to you for a moment?”

Keiko quirks an eyebrow, she had picked up that this boy was head over heels for Kairi the other day. That he’s now a nervous wreck around you seems to concern her, doubly so after what happened.

To clarify, I'm just talking sort of general "I'm sure you wouldn't upset Koyomi, because that would be bad.

For you."

I mean, geez. Incurring the simultaneous wrath of four Sailor Moons - and god knows how many Tsukinos - really can't be good for your health.

Depends what he wants to talk about I guess. The 'I'd like to date your sister' talk isn't his only option here.

He could be asking us about what Kanari and Koyomi have gotten themselves into.

He's been talking to Kanari, so he might have the idea in his head that we're 'secretly' recruiting.

He was pretty into SM3, so he might even be confessing to us here, though this one seems a bit unlikely after his text to Koyomi.

Or maybe he just wants to tell us that he still thinks we're a hero or some such.

Lot of ways he could go.

~Sure, Kino-san,~ you say with a heartfelt and earnest smile, ~What’s on your mind?~

You wonder what it could be about, his nervousness. Is he seeking advice for approaching your sister about her advances, as you briefly remember her ramblings from earlier, the other day? Does he have questions about how Kairi is doing? Is he suddenly smitten with you? Is he trying to apologize for Kanari’s behavior? Come to think of it, this morning it seemed like Auntie Makoto was avoiding you.

He looks to the side and tries to collect himself. While you really don’t want Koyomi and Kairi fighting over him, if that is what might wind up happening, you decide to preempt his still building train of thought with a very clear intent.

~I’m sure whatever you have to say to me wouldn’t upset Koyomi-chan,~ you say with a certain heavy sweetness by tapping into the fringes of the Red Eyed Beast within you, ~because that would be very bad for you, Kino-san,~

He freezes at your words. Keiko stares at you in surprise, and takes a slow bite from her rice ball while looking back and forth between the two of you. You sit forward a bit and bend your knees, he stands.

“NO!” he finally blurts out and then composes himself and looks slightly less embarrassed, “At least, I don’t think it will,”

Slowly, you nod for him to continue.

“I just wanted to say...thank you,” he bows at the waist sharply, “Thank you for saving us so many times, Sailor Moon,”
>>
>>40010821
This gives you pause. Someone has called you Sailor Moon, directly, and it isn’t your now recombined shadow. There is no knee jerk reaction within you as there had been before, no stark and immediate denial of it from your identity.

“You saved us all so many times. Me, my sister, my classmates, my friends, and my senpai; you are a hero. You are my hero,” he rises and speaks with resolve, “Kanari-chan told me about what happened; and it's tragic and unfortunate that you and Osaka-senpai had to spend so much time in the dark…”

You’re stunned. Not angry, despite the ease with which you could become angry from the threads connecting you to the idea of Red Eyes in this instance, just surprised that Kanari would tell him what you told her after the rest of the truth was revealed to him. You wonder how you’ll feel about that when you come down from this high.

“Everyone together for a minute!” auntie Minako calls out from the center of the gathering, “We’re going to be heading out soon. Don’t think of it as goodbye, think of it as See you Soon!”

>Thank you Koito, it means a lot that there are still people who think so well of me
>~I’m not a hero, Koito. I ran away~ just because you can’t feel it, doesn’t mean you don’t know the sadness is there.

You can feel his belief in you, it's something pure and part of his being and soul. It tugs on you in a unique way, as this close you feel his contribution into you. Belief in Sailor Moon and the fear of the Red Eyed beast, though tied to two specific powers within you, they are the same thing. A fuel for the divine spark in you. The one you know to exist in your mother and her possible future in Usa’s world. The one that exists in Usa-neechan herself. That likely will exist inside of your baby sister as well.

You stand up slowly and put a steadying hand on Koito’s shoulder.

~I appreciate that people think well of my time as Moon,~ you say softly ~though I think I was a poor fit for that mantle,~

“Chiba-san,” he says in concern as you walk past him toward the central point of the farewell gathering.

~This is a complicated life, Kino-san,~ you turn back to face him, ~It can be a hard one. Remember that when your sister needs support, or my sister for that matter~

Keiko finishes her riceball while checking her phone and rises as well.

“I...I will remember that,” he says as Keiko walks past him and pats him on the shoulder, “Wait, Chiba-san,”

~Hmm?~

“Why do you have two shadows?” he asks curiously.

“What are you talking about?” Keiko looks over at your curiously, “She only has one,”

You feel the weight of Kunzite and Zoisite in your mind. To your perspective you have three shadows. They remain quiet.

Moving among the rest of the group, Koito lingers behind a moment. Keiko catches up with you and pockets her phone.

“Midori is on the way, she’s a bit miffed about all the cloak and dagger stuff...and still a little shaken about what happened at the tower,” she explains.

~I think we’re all shaken,~ you sigh.

“Never a dull moment, right?” she laughs.
>>
>>40011792

~Yeah, and look at you,~ you smile and elbow her in the side, ~How many times did you get to be the big damn hero?~

“Hardly enough. I’m getting a taste for it,” she smiles broadly.

Upon reaching the group you give your mom a big hug along with Koyomi and Usa. She is sad, but resolved.

“Usa. Take care over there, and give Neo Queen Serenity my best, okay?”

“I will mom. I’ll see you soon” your big sister smiles.

“I’ll do my best to keep Tokyo safe, mama,” Koyomi cries in tears and buries her face into her stomach.

“I know you will, baby,” she pats her on the head.

You catch sight of everyone saying their goodbyes. Rin and her father to Auntie Rei. Thiago-Tio and the twins to Auntie Makoto. The Mizunos saying their goodbye, you think Aiha is going to crush her mother’s rib cage as the woman lays a gentle hand on top of her head. Venus is in tears as she hangs off her mother’s neck. Setsuna and Tomoe-sensei bid Aunties Michiru and Haruka goodbye…

Its emotional as you turn back to your own mother.

“How do you mean?” he asks carefully.

~It means you have the potential to take on a power. A power whose purpose and duty is to protect those of the house of Elysion,~ you say quietly and seriously.

“House of El-Elysion?” he asks confused.

“Mikage, I don’t think he knows all the finer details,” Keiko giggles to herself.

~...what about Silver Millennium?~ you offer.

“Uh...nope,” he shrugs, “I just got told about our Moms being the Sailor Senshi, our sister being the new group, and those in between,”

~Seriously,~ you wonder aloud, ~Not the starcrossed story of of Serenity & Endymion. Ancient Earth. Mass reincarnation? Beryl?~

“Uh, that sounds important,” he nods, “Though Kanari did tell me your dad was Tuxedo Mask and something about your big sister being...you from DBZ rules time travel?”

~Its not DBZ rules time travel!~ you lurch forward and gesticulate, ~At least...it wasn’t at first,~

“You know what, go say goodbye to your mom...I’ll give him the cliff notes. I was there,”

----

~I love you mom,~ you say while squeezing her back tightly, ~And I miss you already,~

“I know, honey,” she hugs all three of you close, “I know,”

~And I’ll protect her!~ you say into her shoulder, ~I promise you that I’ll protect her,~

Breaking from the huddles with their individual families, everyone shares their goodbyes with one another. You make your rounds, though find out that Auntie Makoto is still upset with you having learned you slapped Kanari across the face. You are given a stern motherly warning not to do so again. Everything else is fine, and Auntie Ami thanks you for helping Aiha make the first move to mend bridges she is embarrassed to say that she didn’t quite realized were down.

“Alright, Usako” your father says first to her and then to everyone before pointing at the sky, “It's time. I’ll be back afterwards...you should all be able to see the them leaving that way to the north of the metro building,”

“COME BACK SOON, MAMA!” Koyomi calls out before she cries into your shoulder.

~There there,~ you pat her on the head.

“Uh, excuse me...Koyomi-chan,” Koito comes up behind the two of your nervously.

“Eh?” she sniffs and snaps around to face him.

“I know this might not be the best time...but I wanted to talk to you about yesterday,” he says looking between the two of you.

You motion to your shadows and grant him a quick shushing gesture behind Koyomi’s back. He seems to get that. Koyomi tenses up, and you feel a particular aura take her. Quick enough to give you whiplash she springs forward arms spread wide and impacts with the boy.

“OUR MOMMIES ARE GOING INTO SPACE AND I’M SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD,” she cries out to him.

You, for the moment, leave him to his fate.

FInal goodbyes are exchanged, Keiko actually runs up to your mother and bows deeply to her before sharing a quiet exchange. As they leave, you see Midori at the edge of the park getting off of a bus. She waves and approaches.

She waves to you as Kairi and Keiko join back up beside you. Her first target is Midori, who she gives a full hug before kissing her on the cheek. Kairi is blushing, still a bit phased by your earlier statement, she stammers out a hello that Midori returns.

Midori then turns her attention to you, after taking a deep breath.

“Are you okay?” she asks tersely.

I guess that maybe we feel like if all that is out in the open, then that would mean that we're really all the way into back into the senshi game, and we aren't sure if we're ready for that. At least until we fix the golden crystal.

~Oh, I’m just riding a high. Worried about the crash,~ you roll your eyes and smile.

“It is going to take so much longer before I get used to you being Miki,” she sighs and massages her temples, “That shit at the tower was scary, what the hell even happened to you?”

~It was those...things. They were from...not around here. Empty, the only thing I got from them was their own hunger,~ you say with a small bit of embarrassment, ~Though, I want to thank you for helping to stop me, Jade,~

She smirks and gives you a hug; before pushing back from you and crossing her arms.

“Yeah, well, what are friends for?” she smiles and the four of you head back over to your blanket under the tree, “So, with the safety net of the original Senshi off world, we’re going to be getting busy,”

~Yeah,~ you nod, ~And the good news is I may have a lead on another knight,~

“Already? When?” Kairi asks, shocked from her lingering embarrassment.

“A few minutes ago,” Keiko explains, “Your first admirer thought Mikage had two shadows,”

Your best friend turns to stare at you. Her eye twitching.

“And now your little sister is hanging all over him,” Kairi grits through her teeth, “I want to be suspicious, but there is no way you planned all of that,”

You giggle nervously as Keiko tactfully changes the subject.

“I’m glad you’re here to day, Midori,” Keiko says as she grabs her arm and sits down on the blanket next to her.

“Yeah, well I’d have been here earlier,” she groans and leans her head on her shoulder, “but somebody wants to keep playing this close to the chest,”

~Yeah...Jade,~ you shrug and feel a minor flicker and falter in your previously unyielding good mood, ~If we take this into the open...I think it means admitting that I am back full bore into Senshi stuff, and I’m not sure when I’ll be ready to admit that,~

You lift up your locket and open it, to show the three fragments of the golden crystal.
>>
>>40013623

~Maybe once this is whole,~ you say, ~I’m closer to where I need to be...and once this is back together I can handle that,~

She nods.

“Okay,” she relaxes, “So, anything else big happened since you woke up?”

You and Kairi catch Keiko and Midori up on your own investigations and everything that happened since you woke up. And soon, the first of the streaking lights can be seen in the daytime skies over Tokyo.

Then again Koito has strong senshi heritage. What he might need is a means to tap that potential. For the Scouts it is wands and lockets, for us and our father it is raw access that took some awakening to really access.

..I really want more points in Arcane so we don't need to rely on others as much for answers.
I imagine there should be a way to go about it, though we should ask him about his preferences before we go headlong in a direction.

As you should. I imagine, from the Enemy POV, that things are going swimmingly for their plans.
Elder senshi off world and separated from each other and support.
Heavy hitter and leader of the B team out of commission, with the Quartet wrapped up putting out brushfires in distant parts of the world.
Leaving the young and relatively untried C team watching the homefront with no parents or 'useful' family. (I imagine our file makes us look more like a liabilty at worst, dead/mia as Moon at best, depending on details).

Enemy team is probably doing a happy dance right now.

Meanwhile, the E-Team continues to play the wildcard against their plans. *cue A-Team opening credits with members and possible members of team Eclipse* B.A. Boris, and Mikage playing like three different folk. Dan can be Face.

..That insanity aside: Did Uranus and Neptune go as well? I wasn't sure on that.

At this point, I am not certain Magician was working for them so much as it was a thing unleashed and they studied what it left behind.

For instance, it appeared there was ongoing effort to attempt to cleanse the taint from the shadowclonequeengrandma. Which seems out of line with the actions we've seen them take with shadow infectio- ...
..
Unless they have been using that creepy setup to harvest the Shadow material they've been using.
Though my instincts on this feel like there is a grander source tied to whatever caused that damage in the first place.

Back on my original thought train, Magician's statements to us and those recounted by Kairi seem to indicate it had a large concern and was completely amoral about its research toward preparing for this threat. And had a secret backroom attempting the cleanse/clone the ancient queen.

Even with our out of character knowledge, it seems like that chunk of crystaline nanotech supercomputer had its concerns beyond restoring the Earth Kingdom.

Crystaline nanotech.. shit, and here I was feeling paranoid about wondering where it went, now I feel like a wasn't paranoid enough, or thinking hard enough about it.
We need to find out where that stuff went.

Red Eyes isn't too far from our core now. More open about things that upset us, and even letting out a touch of her when threatening poor Kino.
I imagine the main bar will be other forces that would rather have Red on their side.
Like that bit of Metallia we nibbled on shortly before unleashing a more fully powered Beast onto the streets. -and the Enemy is still likely hunting for her as well. Don't forget their search is one of the things that brought Aiha's school into things, and us in turn.

If they were supposedly watching Magicians old lab as well, won't Kairi be at Risk after being seen enter with us?

And yeah, they're probably beast hunting. Good thing the beast has no visible public ties to any- OH WAIT! The sporty Primrose's photos of what happened at MgRonald's with Sasha.

On my way home to write that Omake.

home, writing.

Kairi's got a good cover/true story of facing her fears and such.

As for Sasha: Oh fuck, I hadn't thought of that.
Having a flashback to a scene in Gotham now.
Darn tabloids/social media.

Also recall we had made a point to plan to have words with them about those pictures for image reasons, along with owning their schools territory, but then stuff happened and we hadn't gotten to that yet. Argh.

Omake

“And the yellow beam is my mommy!” Venus-chan sighs and flops back on the blanket to stare at the sky, “Bye bye mommy!”

“Its scary, thinking about how far away they’ll be,” Aiha sighs and sets down her meal, “I was finally able to close the gap between us…”

“Don’t get yourself down, Aiha-chan,” Kanari punches her in the shoulder lightly, “They’ve left us a big responsibility and we gotta make good,”

“I’m aloud to be sad,” she snaps back verbally and telekinetically scatters the contents of Kanari’s cone of little fried dough balls with cinnamon and powdered sugar, brazilian rain cakes, “Oh no, I’m sorry!”

Rin leans over and gives Kanari her napkin while the taller girl stares, surprised and confused at the now shy and inwardly drawing blue haired girl.

“Is this happening,” Kanari ventures after taking a steadying breath while wiping powdered sugar from her face, “more frequently?”

“It happened yesterday,” Rin offers, “And I shared a vision with her that was a bit upsetting,”

Venus sits up, a rain cake sitting in her mouth. She snaps it up and spins to face Aiha.

“Do it again! Do it again!” she kicks up and tucks her knees under her and bounces on them.

“Ah- I...I can’t just do that on command,” Aiha says embarrassed, “I mean, I can move things...but I can’t actively make things pop like that,”

“Well, maybe we can help teach you to!” Venus stands and hops over to one of the coolers and leans over the lip to root around it for a bit, “Ah, here it is. Aiha!”

“What is it, Venus-chan?”

“THINK FAST!” the small blonde child spins and throws an opened snowcone straight for Aiha’s head.

I wonder if taking that clone from them was really that important.

I mean, they left it in a mostly compromised location. And mostly unguarded. I don't think they could have seriously thought that Saori would be good for much more than calling in if an intruder showed up.

Dad didn't seem to think moving it would be that hard, the bad guys probably could have done it too if they wanted.

If having that place found was such a big deal, why was it so easy for us?

Gambits can be turned against you as well.

Hm, something we should notice but Mikage hasn't yet?
>>
>>40066832
Something to that affect.
>>
>>40066832
The spider business with Keiko's fanclub maybe?

Personally I'm taking that on an 'as it comes' basis. I'm just hoping to just get as much done as possible before it hits.
>>
>>40067735
No, we've discussed that. It has to be something else.

I didn't bring it up in that post, mostly stuck ic.

But yeah, Enemy is responding to lack of info on us by attaching obessive spies to the known person we've rescued twice.

So they are hatching plans and plots.

Too many spiders people.
>>
For those who usually ask, going to try for next thread this weekend, preferably Saturday.
>>
>>40069620
And hopefully I can conclude the picnic and get to Venus asking Mikage a very important question about her Saturday night.
>>
Huh, Venus and Minako were described as arriving together incognito...does that mean when the party breaks up Venus will be alone?

Or is Sophia nearby with a car?

Also, we should start planning Venus's metal disguise now.

I'm thinking oversized black torn T-shirt as the base.

Upon review of this thread, I want to give Tsukino Grandpa a hug.

Which one?

The dragon? Sure, why not.

I recall that the rich guy working with PIT who met Mamoru on the plane along with the ancient aliens guy is supposed to have his appearance based on bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan
>>
Let us go and we'll see about a new thread tonight instead us Saturday. My evening plans fell through.
