Now, before we start the quest proper, I'd like to continue submissions for possible characters for those who may not have had a chance at the end of the last thread!

As said before, please submit them under these guidelines:

NAME:
GENDER:
PERSONALITY:
CREW ROLE:
BACKGROUND:

Remember, characters that have more effort put into their creation will have a greater likelihood to be included!

Also, please refrain from reposting submissions from the last thread. I've already gone over them and I don't really need to see them again.

>Now have at it! I'll give it about 20-30 minutes.

NAME: Jonathan "Johnny" joestar

GENDER: Male

PERSONALITY: Selfish, Determined, Sarcastic

CREW ROLE: Pilot

Before joining the VT ranks, Johnny was a famous horse jockey that got what he wanted until he suffered a horrible accident that cost him his legs. While living in the shadow of his former self Johnny met a doctor turned VT engineer called Gyro Zeppeli who by some sort of strange technique made Johnny's legs twitch a little. Baffled from the experience Johnny tries to find Gyro again but fails after hearing that he was sent to the battlefield, this is enough motivation for him to apply for being a VT pilot which normally would require... um ...you know... working legs but after showing up in a horse and beating the army current records both with and without his horse it was decided that Johnny should be given a special pass on the army

P.S: Johnny has a weird fetish of girls with mosquito bites so there's that.

Okay, here is a revised profile. Feel free to add or remove details, Merc.
>NAME: Alex Vegas
>GENDER: Fe/Male?
>PERSONALITY: Homesick (Determined to return, sometimes to the point of recklessness) Risk Taker.
>CREW ROLE: Commander/Radio Operator
>BACKGROUND:

Before joining the military, s/he spent time aimlessly riding his/her motorcycle throughout the country looking for a life goal.
Alex was often teased for his/her small stature (to which s/he often replies with jokes about his/her gender*), despite it being quite useful in the cramped interior of a VT. Even then, after being recruited, s/he lived day by day without any real thoughts about the future.

*Nobody, but those with access to official documents have been truly able to accurately discern Alex's gender.

That was until defecting to Tilea.

Alex and a couple of VT crews deserted their post due to low morale (from numerous defeats), and learning that they would be used as cannon fodder in an operation against Tilea. After defecting, Alex and crews joined the Tilean Army (though under a very tight leash) in the hopes that they would be able to reunite with their families and friends back home.

Currently, the crews that defected along with Alex are dying out, and rumors of a "Phantom VT" or even an Anti-VT sniper hunting down the defectors are emerging.

NAME: Justinian Gregor Halldemark IV
GENDER: Male
PERSONALITY: Older gentlemen who possesses a great deal of knowledge about military affairs, but has very little practical first-hand experience. Fortunately, he is aware of his shortcomings and does not impose himself when he is out of his depths. On the job, he's extremely professional and obeys his orders to the letter. Off the job, he has a moderate drinking problem. He's also an extremely vocal patriot.
CREW ROLE: Radio Operator
BACKGROUND: He is a former intelligence analyst who speaks over a dozen languages and has a great talent for cryptography. He was recruited immediately after he completed his basic training and quickly became a rising star in counter-intelligence. However, his career fell apart when his wife left him for a foreign diplomat. Although there is no evidence that his wife leaked any classified documents, Justinian still came under suspicion and his superiors strongly suggested that he retire from intelligence. In order to earn a living and prove his loyalty to his country, he returned to the army and used his linguistics skills and his knowledge of military science to apply for a position as a radio operator.

>>40002553

Name: John 'Riddle' Tyler
Gender Male:
Personality: Whimsical and a bit odd. He has a habit of saying puns, riddle, and wordplays as he talks to people. Kind of comes off like a inconsiderate, laid back person sometimes saying absurd thing to get a rise out of people but often used as a bit of a facade as he analyzes people and their reactions. He especially enjoys people with 'quirks' or 'oddities' (or insane but prefers to use those two words) in their personality since he believes that people like that are ones who often becomes great!

Crew Role: Radio Operator/Maintenance

Background:

John Tyle was born in a well to do family in the capital who have some shares in steel and ammunition production for military arms. With his family's finances and wishes he managed to go through technical school in radio operating/communications/engineering doing very well for himself in order to appease his family who put him through schooling. However, he maintained a healthy interest in psychology and how the human mind ticks and after a bid of turmoil with his family in which they believed that it is a nonsense degree but through his efforts and silver tongue eventually agreed to let him minor in it as long he keeps up with his grades.

That's actually a pretty sound overall design for a walker.

A big main gun for Anti-Mech, a smaller gun for light armor, a low caliber gun on the side for infantry support, and a gun on top for anti-infantry.
>>
>>40002802
However, he felt dissatisfied with the teaching of theories in his classes mostly due to the controlled environments and very small study samples.,This frustration grew frustrated with the lack of initiative and blandness of the so called 'professors of psychology' and wanted something more then what they taught. However he had no means of doing so until his engineering course visited a VT training camp and saw first hand the behavior and madness of VT tanks. He originally wanted to venture out to a more natural environment in which. oddities are free to roam. So this was a perfect environment to immerse himself in. Convincing his parents to use his major in communications to good use, he volunteered to the VT Program. Under this guise he is free to study the tankers and the crew that support them free of any controlled environment.

He keeps a book to write down things of his surroundings and a profile of their personality. He keeps extensive notes on people of 'especially odd' s case studies. He hopes to write a thesis based on his findings during his time as a VT crew man.

He main quote is:

"A person who chooses to work in a small metal death trap voluntarily must have a few screws loose and is a interest worth studying."

PERSONALITY: From middle-upper class family and with a fascination for a "proper military", Alan is a dedicated individual who tries to follow rules and regulations as close as possible as well as explaining to anyone he can about "proper military conduct and appearance".

She has what one may call a "Sixth Sense", or a funny feeling as to when to bail out, hence her nickname.
(Just don't call her "Bailout" whenever you're in a vehicle with her or else everyone will bail out. Most people call her, "B.O." in a VT, and mostly to her expense.)
After successfully escaping certain death so many times, her fellow crew members follow her lead whenever she decides to escape.

He applied for transfer to the Vertical Tank units after helping perform an operation on one of the crew members who had comeback from the field and told him there were open positions.

He is a very capable gunner and has been known to be able to fire a decent hit on an enemy VT even after hours of staring directly into the sun.

He is rather religious however and most tank crews won't put up with him for very long as he attempts to push his religion on others. However sometimes in a rough spot a bit of hope and faith is what one needs to make it through the day.

NAME: Vahn Longshot
GENDER: Male age 17
PERSONALITY: Calculated aggression. His background as a Scout Sniper transferred to his new role as a D-type gunner, where he puts his experience with artillery spotting and sharp shooting to good use. He will always try to cut the head off the snake by killing enemy officers first. He can be sarcastic and abrasive, often preferring to mock allies and opponents alike.
CREW ROLE: Gunner/Commander
BACKGROUND: Vahn's mountain town was the subject of frequent small-scale raids by neighboring bandits, and as a result the townspeople turned their skill at hunting into a prestigious tradition of sharpshooting, being revered as the Hawks of the High Peaks. Vahn's talents were put to use at an early age, when recruiters attached to a passing armor division requested members of the Hawks as artillery scouts. Vahn performed his job well, and eventually when he came of age, was sent to the academy to learn to pilot the artillery he had come to idolize as the pinnacle of gunnery.

You are ROY POWERS, a Vertical Tank Commander!

Right now, you're sitting anxiously in your seat as a military train brings you ever closer to Tilea's eastern border. To your side, taking up the window seat, Tarin casually reads a newspaper picked up from the previous station.

"Anything new?" You ask.

"Usual." Tarin shrugs. "Alin and Dhrachma being dicks. Reikland still quiet and mysterious. Things just going swell on the homefront."

"I see." You sigh at Tarin's very blunt summary.

You look around the train car, filled with military personnel who were also being transferred to the 4th Armored Division, or the "Devil Dogs" as they were popularly known. Not just VT crews, but all sorts of support personnel like mechanics, radio operators, and paper pushers. Axel and Alfie were sitting in the row across the aisle from you. Axel was munching on a bag of peanuts while Alfie silently dozed away on his shoulder.

As for your Vertical Tanks, they were being stored in one of the cargo cars, along with various other vehicles and equipment being sent over to the front as well.

Tank Destroyer doctrine has been misconstrued to be something that it isn't over the years. I'm hoping I can clear things up a little.

The Americans watched the opening moves of WW2 with great interest. As you know, concentrations of large amounts of German armor spearheaded their way through Poland and France, cutting through their competition faster than anyone thought was possible. The Americans saw this and needed a way to counter it. The solution? Tank Destroyers Battalions.

So how do you counter concentrations of enemy armor? You can do this by one of several means. First, you just strengthen your line everywhere to the point they can't break through. Simply put that is impossible. The other way is by concentrating forces specialized to defeat that armor where their armor strikes. As such, the Americans created Tank Destroyer Battalions, which would be deployed as a whole to counter the enemy's armor concentrations. Note that this doesn't mean they were expected to take on all the tanks. The Shermans were expected to take on other tanks, and, in the vast majority of cases did a damn good job at it with even the 75mm M3 and the 76mm M1.

In order to facilitate their role as a mobile reserve, they were stripped of armor to make them as fast as possible. They had a good gun, ranging from a simple 75mm gun on the M3 halftracks used in North Africa(which were highly effective against everything that was there, but merely an interim platform) to the mighty 90mm gun used on the M36, which was introduced in 1944. By the end of the war, the Tank Destroyers were able to kill pretty much everything they came across. And they were extremely good in this job. In the Bulge, they had a 9:1 kill/loss ratio.

Tank Destroyer Doctrine has a poor reputation, but why is that exactly? It stems from the conditions on the Western Front. With one major exception, the war that it was designed to fight never occurred. That war was going on in the Eastern Front. On the West, it was much smaller, more local counter attacks. As such, the need for concentrations of tank destroyers to counter enemy armor never really occurred. As a result, the Tank Destroyers were attached piecemeal to other units, used for infantry support, or even used as light artillery units. They performed well in all roles, including artillery. Interestingly, they worked well as artillery pieces, because their shells would not damage roadways. Particularly effective in this role was the M10, which had its gun firing lower pressure rounds than it could have because McNair was a bitch. Funnily enough, in that role, McNair was actually right, as it didn't wear out the barrel as quickly. Excuse me while I rinse out my mouth, as that was heresy.

Anyways, Tank Destroyers were extremely effective tools. They performed well in every role they were given, despite never being used as intended due to the fates of war. The one time they did, the Bulge, the Tank Destroyers proved their worth(I suppose I should say Gun Motor Carriages, but that vs towed TDs is a discussion for a different time.). If a mere battalion of TDs could hold up an entire Division, or more, then they were obviously a very valuable asset. Sadly, the Bulge was a little too late as well, as by that time most of the TDs had been attached to other units piecemeal, so they were not as effective as they could have been. Funnily enough, if Operation Unthinkable had been launched, Tank Destroyers would have proven to be our most valuable asset, although Deep Battle may have mitigated their strength somewhat.

Anyways, rant done. TDs a best. I might be slightly biased.

The M3 GMC was a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, they performed well, and were able to knock out everything they faced in the desert. On the other hand, they were extremely vulnerable, and in some cases used like tanks, to push unsupported. This, and other mistakes made due to how green the American troops were in North Africa, led to most of its casualties, as studies during the war conclude.

You get up from your seat, deciding to wander the train for a bit, you accidentally bump into another soldier as he passes by on the aisle.

"Oh, sorry about that!" You gasp.

"Hey, hey, no problem!" The man chuckles and he looks at your shoulder patches. "Hey, a fellow Veet pilot?"

"That's right." You grin as you point to the patch. "Joining up with the 4th today."

"Ha, always good to have some fresh blood in the unit!" The man laughs as he pats you on the shoulder. "Name's Heckler, Rosin Heckler, but everybody just calls me 'Rock.' You?"

Name: Eleanor "Elly" Graves
Gender: Female
Personality: Elly is quite friendly and approachable. She possesses a calm, easy-going demeanor, and there isn't much out there that fazes her. However, she has a rather grim sense of humor that some might find to be a bit off-putting. When she's on the field, she's very focused and professional, but not afraid to crack the occasional joke to boost morale.
Crew Role: Gunner
Background: Eleanor was born into a poor family up in one Tilea's many mountain villages. Sadly, her childhood was quite unstable: her father slaved away to make ends meet, and often took his frustrations out on the rest of his family, mostly verbally, sometimes physically. Her mother, while she cared deeply for her daughter, took to alcoholism in an attempt to cope, inadvertently creating a rift in their relationship.

Elly struggled to support her family while balancing school and withstanding the abuse in her teens. Needless to say, this resulted in her self-esteem being totally shot for quite some time. A hope for a better future, away from her home, from her family, was all that really kept her going until she graduated. Her family was unable to afford a higher education, which limited her options outside of her hometown.

(1/2)
>>
Elly steadily began to lose hope, before she learned of an opportunity within the Tilean military: the VT program. Through it, she would operate some of the most advanced weapons the army had to offer. A most prestigious opportunity indeed, provided she could make the cut, of course. It was decided: despite her family's protests, Elly left for the capital and enlisted in the Tilean army, and by extension, the VT Program. Though the training was grueling, she remained vigilant, and managed to pass the exam. Now, as a fresh recruit, Elly is eager to carry out her duties, start anew on a clean slate. Some would say she's a bit too eager: Elly doesn't really have any major life plans outside of the military. For now, that doesn't matter: whatever it takes to prove that she's worth a damn on this world, Elly's certain that she'll find it as part of the VT corps.

"Hey, so what's the 4th like, anyways?" You ask.

"The Devil Dogs? We're only the biggest, baddest armored force on the planet!" Rock grins an glances down at his unit patch. "Then again, my opinion might be a bit biased."

"So what's it like, then?"

"Well, we're essentially the thin green line separating Tilea from Reikland." Rock shrugs. "That means we've got to constantly patrol the border, and stare down Reik patrols and dare them to try and cross under our watch. They're generally pretty quiet and reclusive, but it's a big border, with lots of holes they can exploit if shit goes down."

"But no actual fights, right?" You ask.

"Oh, there have been plenty of border skirmishes that both sides kind of just cover up for diplomatic reasons." Rock rolls his eyes, his hands reaching for a cigarette. "Most of the time, it's just trigger happy morons taking potshots across the border, but there are times... times where it's the real fucking deal. That's how you separate the boys from the Dogs, seeing how they react when it happens."

He then glances at you and laughs.

"Hey now, no need to be scared from an old veteran's ramblings!" He chuckles.

Late for this, but i'll post it anyway.
NAME: William "Rat" Sharpe
GENDER: Male
PERSONALITY: Cautious, Generous, Depressed, Deceptive, Cowardly.
CREW ROLE: Commander/Pilot
BACKGROUND: Joined the military out of peer pressure. Hoping to get promoted to a position where he can send other people to fight and die on his behalf rather than the other way around.

Certainly not the most competent tactical commander on the company. But his unfailing reliability to keep his men alive, healthy, and well fed (It's advised to not think too much on how he scrounge all of those supplies) earned him at the very least, a grudging respect.

Better have a subordinate that are willing to take a bullet for you than shoot you in the back.

Dislikes the more "unstable" personnel, yet for some reason he keeps getting them shoved under his command.
>>

I guess not... damn it to hell. Wish I'd gotten home earlier.

Since everyones doing it ill just finish my edit on my entry

The thought of even attempting to join the army in such a state was ludicrous yet somehow it was more reinforced when Johnny appeared on top of a horse in the middle of the application process

While most generals and members of the army quickly tried to dissuade him from applying Johnny kept insisting until finally actually threatening to kill himself in front of the applicants if he wasn't even given a shot
What came before them was a record breaking run on top of a horse that left in shamble most of the test given to commandos and a synchronization of bodies less akin to an organism and more on par with an idea a "golden rectangle" if you can call it that

Even with this Johnny could still hold his ground without any help from the soldiers and managed to leave boot camp just as easily as most other soldiers technically giving him a "special pass" to become part of the VT army

"You make it sound like I should be." You frown.

"That's because I am." Rock takes out a lighter and lights his cigarette. "You don't read it in the papers, and we're not allowed to talk about it outside our unit, but Reikland... there's something not right about them."

"Not right...?" You raise an eyebrow.

"I never witnessed it myself, but I've heard the stories. How across the border, sentries have seen the dead walk. That Reik Veets don't have viewports or access hatches. Weird, mechanical beasts prowl No Man's Land after sundown. They're not like Drachma or Alin. Their soldiers are mortal men, and predictable. But Reikland? Nothing natural comes out of that place."

You're not sure if Rock is telling the truth or just fucking with you in an elaborate hazing ritual.

"You look like you don't believe me. But you will soon enough." Rock takes a pull from his cigarette and continues on his way. "Till next time!"

Man, what a weirdo, you think.

"What a wierdo." Tarin mutters.

"I know, right?" You chuckle.

Suddenly, the train's horn blares, signifying that the station was near and that anybody standing had to go sit their asses down right away. You get back onto your seat.

"Wonder if they're all like that." You muse.

"Who knows." Tarin shrugs.

Finally, the train grinds to a halt as the brakes engage, stopping right at a large platform.

"ALL RIGHT, MAGGOTS!" The conductor bellows. "VT PILOTS EXIT ON THE LEFT. EVERYBODY ELSE ON THE RIGHT!"

Still possessing the survival instincts honed into you by boot camp, you quickly follow instructions and disembark. You line up with the other passengers, and up ahead, you can see a trio of officers surveying the action.

So what rank is Roy exactly? I was thinking he was at least Corporeal, or something.

And for that matter, what is the ranking system for tank crews?

TC's are usually SSGs. The other positions are filled by lower enlisted but the pecking order usually goes driver, loader, gunner, then TC.

Possibly a SSG, they're the TCs. However, far fewer people here, so I'd lower it a bit.

"New recruits! Fall in!" One of the officers bellows. "The rest of you, report to your duty stations!"

"Come on!" YOU grab Tarin's hand and drag her with you to the front of the pack. Off to the corner of your sight, you see Axel and Alfie following suit, lining up next to you in the front row as well.

And just like that, the entire platform becomes silent as the lead officer, a Colonel, paces back and forth, glaring at each and every soldier gathered with a seemingly disapproving eye.

"Soldiers." He finally speaks, his voice hardened with experience and determination. "I am Colonel Sawyer, commander of the Devil Dogs!"

"OFFICER ON DECK!" One of his lieutenants bellows and you all instinctively stand to attention and salute.

"If you know anything about the Devil Dogs," Sawyer begins to pace back and forth again, "you will know that we NEVER retreat, and we NEVER surrender. Numbers don't matter to us. Odds don't matter to us. What matters is getting the job done! Am I clear on this?"

"SIR YES SIR!" You all respond.

"We are the thin green line holding back Reikland's expansion! We will be the first and most certainly the last line of defense! I will not tolerate disobedience, cowardice, or incompetence as long as you are part of this unit! Do I make myself clear?!"

"SIR YES SIR!" You all bellow again.

The Colonel then stops right in front of you and stares at you right in the eyes.

"You. You got the look of one of the mountain folk." The Sawyer grunts. "What brings you all the way down here? What makes you think you have what it takes to be a Devil Dog?"

"I just want to fight with the best of the best, SIR!" You shout as loudly and clearly as you could.

Colonel Sawyer continues to glare at you for what seems to be hours, until you see what looks to be the very faint indications of a grin tug at the corners of his mouth. Whether he actually did grin or not, you would never know, as he quickly turns away to face the rest of the unit.

"See, now THIS is the type of fighting spirit I'm looking for! I expect no less from the rest of you!"

"SIR YES SIR!"

"Captains Vance and Webb here will now be assigning you to your units!" Sawyer continues, motioning to the two officers at his flanks. "Dismissed!"

With that, the recruits all begin to line up in front of Vance and Webb, who begin handing out assignment orders. You line up as well, but you feel a hand on your shoulder stop you and you turn to see it's from Colonel Sawyer himself.

"Hold on there, son." Sawyer grunts. "I have a proposition for you."

"Sir?" You blink.

"You're from up north, right? You may be just the sort of tanker I need." Sawyer grunts. "We have a particular problem area on the border, which I feel that you would be particularly suited to operate in. You interested, soldier?"

"It sounds like there's a catch, sir." You observe.

"A bit." Sawyer grunts. "The area is a thick forest the locals call Shadowtree. The foliage is too thick for us to see through, and thanks to some stupid ass treaty we signed with Reikland decades ago, we're not even allowed to cut any of it down. Lots of stories that the place is haunted. But my personal opinion? The damn Ricks are using it as a testing ground for all those new weapons they're rumored to be making."

"Sounds tough." You frown.

"It is." Sawyer nods. "Lord knows, I've increased patrols in that area, but my men don't have much experience operating in forests, especially in places like Shadowtree. I think you've got exactly the skills that I need."

"Can't you just order me to go?"

"Tarin?" You turn to your driver. "What do you think?"

"Let's go for it." She shrugs.

"Sign us up, sir." You say to Colonel Sawyer.

"I knew you wouldn't let me down." Sawyer smiles and hands you a sealed envelope. "Your deployment orders. You'll be joining 7th Platoon, under the command of Lieutenant Bannon. Don't let me down, son."

"Yes sir!" You salute as you take the orders from Sawyer.

"Good. Dismissed." Sawyer looks off to the train, where your VTs are being unloaded. "That your Veet?"

"Yes sir." You nod as you watch your VT being carefully unloaded from the train by crane and lowered onto a waiting trailer truck. "Fresh out of the factory."

"Well take good care of it." Sawyer nods and walks off to yell at more soldiers.

You quickly tear open the envelope and read the instructions therein, instructing you to meet with your platoon at the marshaling field.

"That's odd. You'd never think there would be a forest out here." Tarin muses as she looks around at the wide and relatively flat plains surrounding the base. Just over the horizon, you can see the faint outline of the massive concrete border wall Reikland had built.

"I was surprised too." You grin as you survey the land. "Man, Alfie is gonna HATE it out here."

"Wonder why she came along, then." Tarin says.

"She'd never leave Axel. The two might as well be joined at the hip." You joke.

"Quite true." Tarin nods.

At the marshaling grounds, you could see the recruits were now dividing up into groups, meeting up with their assigned units. You look to see a sign with a large number 7 painted on it, suggesting that was your assigned platoon. You and Tarin walk over to see a pair of parked A model Wolverines standing proudly. At the foot of one of the VTs, you could see one tanker casually polishing a Wolverine leg and humming to herself.

It sounds like this forest is one of those old OLD growth deals where the trees are 10 feet wide at the base and hundreds of feet tall. The canopy is so thick that light never reaches the ground and the animals have no fear of humans. Impossible terrain for a regular tank but an interesting battleground for something with legs.

This is right up our alley, fits our tank specialization too because the name of the game is spotting the enemy first.

"Um, hi there." You speak up as you approach. "You don't happen to be Lieutenant Bannon, do you?"

The girl stops humming and turns to face you with a chuckle.

"Hah, close, but not quite!" She laughs. "I'm Lieutenant Parker, 2nd in command of 7th Platoon. You two must be our new additions!"

"That's right." You salute. "I'm Sergeant Powers, and this here is my driver, Corporal Richards."

Tarin just silently salutes.

"Nice to meet both of you!" Parker says happily. "Sorry, but Captain Bannon is away at the moment.... as is the rest of our platoon. Heh, some show of professionalism, huh?"

"Where could they be?" Tarin asks.

"Anywhere, really. It's not often we come back to HQ." Parker shakes her head. "Lieutenant Bannon is off to god knows where, and the Colonel's gonna be here any minute to chew our asses out again. You wouldn't mind going out to find him for me?"

"Sure." You nod. Not like you could refuse a superior officer, anyways. "Where do you think he is?"

"He might be at the Armory checking out new toys, Command to pick up intel, or snuck off to the Officers' club to get drunk." Parker sighs. "All equally likely."

"I think I'll check the armory. Can't hurt to see all the new toys too, right?" You say.

"That's the spirit!" Parker nods. "Just a word of warning, but Lieutenant Bannon can be a bit... abrasive. Please don't hold it against him."

"Uh, I'll keep that in mind." You nod. "Come on, Tarin."

The two of you head over a large, angular building where the base's weapons and munitions were stored. Of course, it was well armored against possible attack, and well guarded as well. The building was surrounded by foot patrols and VTs. The guards give you suspicious glances, but don't make any moves to stop you. You and Tarin walk through a pair of massive blast doors and nearly stare in awe at the rows and rows of ammo and weapons. Not even boot camp was this well stocked!

"What the hell are you talking about?!" You hear a voice yell. You motion for Tarin to follow you as you both home in on the source of the voice. As you round a corner, you see a man with a small busy mustache, presumably Bannon, in a heated conversation with an utterly bored looking scientist.

"I believe I was rather clear on this, Lieutenant Bannon." The scientist says flatly.

"You mean to tell me that you want us to go out into Shadowtree and engage those things at CLOSE RANGE!?" Bannon continues to gripe. "That's fucking suicide, Egan!"

"I never did say the chances of success were high." Egan says coolly. "But these are orders straight from the top."

"Now see, what bothers me is what exactly you mean by 'top.'". Bannon scowls. "Is this straight from Command, or just you and your scientist buddies at R&D? No way I'm putting my neck on the line for one of your dumb science projects!"

"'Science project' is an incredibly juvenile term." Egan huffs, her tone becoming slightly more annoyed yet somehow her facial expression remains unchanged. "We simply want to gauge Reikland's current rate of technological advancement as well as the research trends, which will be crucial for us to understand their capabilities."

"Well if you want to go out and capture a Rick Veet, why don't you go do it yourself?"

"Well obviously, I can't pilot a Vertical Tank." Egan responds dryly. "And the only area we've confirmed that Reikland's new Vertical Tanks are operating in are in Shadowtree."

"Yeah, well, don't expect any results from me." Bannon grumbles as he storms out of the building.

"Damn eggheads." Bannon grumbles as he stomps away.

"Silly meatheads." Egan shakes her head.

Since the Wolverine is Tilea's main VT (equivalent to the Sherman), do you think there'll be a development for a variant equipped with Rockets?
>>

>>40009124

>>
>>40009119
>How effective are those rockets against other armour?
Not very. It'll slice up anything exposed, such as radio antennas, and might do track damage, but won't kill. That is, unless, you get a direct hit. You'd probably kill the crew from the concussion. Still, you aren't going to be getting a direct hit. That would be sheer coincidence.
>>
>>40009144
Calliope had a 75mm. And I wouldn't call the 76mm M1's anti-infantry performance to be sucky, just not great. It was adequate.
>>
>>40009124
If it's any consolation, we probably have at least 1 machinegun.
>>
>>40009151

And if we get a direct hit anyways, that means the ground is literally VTs and we're completely fucked.
>>
>>40009175
I'd be right pissed if we didn't. Did you know that the T-14 was shown without a coax? Why would you not put that on the official reveal?
>>
>>40009168
I'm not talking about any realworld gun. but when merc gave us the choices of VT we took the one that specifically said that this is less effective against infantry

>M2D1 STRIKE WOLVERINE

>Taking a separate path from the C model, the D model swaps the 75mm cannon with a high velocity 76mm cannon, giving the D model vastly improved armor penetration capability against enemy VTs, as well as increased range. However, due to the cannon's design, it cannot utilize HE shells effectively and therefore has poorer performance against infantry.

I know that. but I was commenting on the idea of the Model D with a calliope rocket rack and someone started going on about the 75mm HE shells. Which we don't have.
>>
>>40009197
If you couldn't connect the dots to Shermans, I don't know what to tell you.

And the 75mm M3 had fantastic HE performance. So the lesser HE of the 76mm M1 still wasn't bad. Enough of a difference that some tankers wanted to keep the 75 over the 76, seeing as they didn't normally fight tanks, and those they did were generally vulnerable to the 75.

M4. The M3 is the gun on it, as well as its predecessor, which used the 75mm M2 gun. America had very confusing naming schemes.

>The description of the Model D specifically says we don't get HE shells. At all.
That would be incorrect.
>>
>>40009292
You might need to do some alterations for crew space though. I'm assuming that it'll take 2 people to operate the damn thing, but then again the auto loader mechanism will take up some space...
>>
>>40009327
Yeah, that's one of the big issues I'm trying to tackle. The Autoloader easily takes up a good 1/4th of the interior, not considering the Commander's console thingy and the drivers pit. It's a bit cramped in my head as I work it out, but it works. But there's all sorts of little things that are giving me trouble as I work it out, especially considering they're 2-man crews. Such is VT design I suppose.

Man, Parker wasn't kidding when she warned you that Bannon could be abrasive. You follow him out of the armory, where he starts heading back to the marshaling area. He's obviously not in too good a mood, judging from all the grumbling he's making.

Upon making it back to your meeting point, you notice that the rest of your platoon has apparently arrived. You're a bit surprised to see Axel and Alfie there, as well as Rock and one other VT crew member you're not familiar with.

"Well, it looks like we'll be fighting together again!" Axel laughs as he fistbumps you.

"Heh, I guess we're lucky for that?" You grin.

"Ah, so you two know each other already? That simplifies things!" Rock laughs. "I'm assuming you haven't met my commander yet, Alex!"

Rock then motions to the young man standing behind him... or was it a woman? You honestly couldn't tell.

"Pleasure." Alex says simply, almost sounding bored.

"Well well, looks like the gang's all here." Bannon grunts as his gaze falls on you, Tarin, Axel, and Alfie. "Welcome to 7th Platoon. You'll be following my orders and everything. Just don't be a ass and things will run smoothly."

You see Parker roll her eyes at the irony of his last sentence.

"Anyways, I know that we've all just met, but we got orders to start a patrol in Shadowtree." Bannon sighs.

"What? On our first day here?" Axel frowns.

"We got a lot of border and not nearly enough VTs to cover it all." Bannon snaps. "Now get your asses to your VTs and prepare to move out!"

Well, things were starting to get interesting now...
