You are Giles, Master Thief, lover extraordinaire, and professional fighter.

Your job has taken another interesting turn, as you’ve now gone from escort to spymaster.

Things with the brotherhood have been going well. You’ve now managed to put the info you received from them to good use and put the saboteurs to work.

Though she would probably deny it if you asked, Marcy seems to enjoy getting to be a girl again, and Selene is happy that the people around her are giving her love, though she still misses her mom.

With your escape from Harthren successful, the next stop will be Searise. You have things to ask your father, and things to do in Laust.

The fires of war rise and dance on the whim of a Devil.
Will you extinguish them before they spread, or let them grow into a conflagration to consume the world?

“Okay. I need a break” Marcy says.
“It’s been like… 2 hours” You reply.
“And you’re the one who said to be more vocal about pain, so I need a break” She says.

Right… you did say that. Maybe this would have been easier if you didn’t bring an injured person along. You could be halfway to Searise already if it was just you and Selene, but that’s life. Too late to do anything about it now.

You find a small clearing a little ways up the road, where the three of you sit down.

“Is the leg bothering you that much?” You ask.
“Not as much now, but it still hurts a bit” She says. “I’d rather avoid having to stop for half an hour again because the bandages need changing.”

“The bandages will need to be changed again eventually” You say.
“Yes, but hopefully I’ll be in proper shape to do it myself next time” She says. “Don’t get me wrong, you’re a cool guy, but I’d rather not have your hands that close to my uhh… nnnibbly bits… you feel me?”

“I get it” You say.
“What are nibbly bits?” Selene asks.
“They’re… uhh…” You start.
“It’s your vagina” Marcy says flatly.
Selene tilts her head. “Oh” She says.

The silence stretches for a bit after that, until Selene speaks up again. “Is it lunchtime yet?” She asks.

You look up to see where the sun is. It’s probably getting around that time…

“Sure” You say, reaching into your cloak and pulling out what’s left over from the rations you and Laura got in Catisse.

Laying it all out, you whistle for Kuma and she pops out of the bushes.
Marcy is caught completely off guard, jumping in surprise at the assassin’s sudden appearance.

“Kuma is coming” You say flatly.
“Heads up means forewarning!” She says. “As in warning me BEFORE it happens”
“I’ll remember that next time” You say.
“Sure” She says. “I’ll believe that when I see it”

Kuma stands awkwardly while you and Marcy argue. “Wh-what is it master?” She asks when she finally sees a chance to speak.
“Come and sit down” You say.
She looks at you in confusion. “Why?” She asks.
“Because you’re having lunch with us” You say.

“She is?” Marcy asks.
“I am?” Kuma asks.

“Yes” You say.

“If that is your wish” She says, shuffling her feet as she walks over to you.
Selene shimmies closer to you as Kuma approaches, you wonder if she’s not quite comfortable with your assistant yet…

And, if she has any comments about the floral dress, make sure to say that we can pick her up a new one in Searise, if she wants; she can pick it.

You pull out four wooden cups and fill with your water skin, then pass them around.

Then you wait until Marcy is drinking, and…

“So Marcy” You say. “What’s it like to be a girl again?”
Marcy spews her water out, coughing as she struggles to respond.

“You did that on purpose” She says once the coughing has passed.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about” You reply

She glares at you as she wipes her mouth off.
“Are you going to answer the question?” You ask.
“You actually want an answer?” She asks.
“That’s why you ask questions, isn't it?” You ask.

She ponders for a moment. “Pretty good, I guess” She says. “I’ll admit, while it’s pretty gaudy, it’s still the first dress I’ve gotten to wear in like… 8 years. It’s nice to not have to bind my chest, it’s nice not to have to worry about someone finding out what I really am, because for once it’s just out there.”

“Huh” You say.
“What?” She asks. “Is that weird?”
“No. I just wasn’t expecting an actual honest answer for some reason” You say.
“So why did you ask?” She asks.
“Curiosity” You say.

“You’re curious about whether or not I enjoy being a girl?” She asks.
“You seem to be enjoying it” You say.
“I get to breathe properly without those stupid bindings, what’s not to like?” She asks.

“So you actually like the dress?” You ask.
“Oh gods no” She says. “Too much colour, and it’s all the wrong colours. I like wearing a dress, but I’m getting a new one the first chance I get”
“Ouch. That hurt my feelings” You say.
“Good, you earned that” She says. “Though I like the style of it, and it fits pretty well”
“I’ll take that as a compliment” You say.

“In fact, it fits too well. You didn’t like… measure me in my sleep or something, did you?” She asks.
“Of course not!” You say. “I just kind of eyeballed it”
“Pretty good for an eyeballin’” She says. “If you weren’t already making good money as a spymaster, you could make good money as a tailor”
“I’ll keep that in mind” You say. “Who knows? Depending on how long we stay in one place, I may end up working as a tailor”

“Hmm…” Marcy says.
“What?” You ask.
“Nope, can’t picture it” She says.
“Picture what?” You ask.
“You with a regular job” She says.
“I can totally have a regular job” You say. “I was a regular servant at the castle for like… 5 days”
“And see how that went?” She asks.
“Point taken” You say.

>[1/2]

You bite into a piece of stale bread. Things don’t seem to go bad when they get left in your cloak, but they do get stale. You don’t actually know what it’s like in there, and you aren’t about to stick your head in to find out.

“Something’s been bugging me” You say.
“Shoot” She says.
“Did no one notice when you suddenly stopped being a girl?” You ask.
She shrugs. “People didn’t tend to notice much about me back then. I wasn’t exactly a pretty girl, and I certainly didn’t stand out among the helpers at the arena” She says.

“But someone must have noticed something” You say.
“Nope” She replies. “One day I was Marcella the helper girl, and the next I was entered into a tournament as Marcellus the apprentice duelist”

“Pretty impressive switch” You say.
“It gets more impressive” She says. “I actually won the first tournament I entered. People took notice of me then”
“I’ll bet they did” You say.

“Question” Kuma says.
“What’s on your mind?” You ask.
“How did you change genders?” She asks.
“I just kind of stopped dressing like a girl, styled my hair like a boy and took on a boy’s name” Marcy says.
“Is that all it takes?” Kuma asks.
“Yeah” Marcy says.

Kuma fidgets a little, while Marcy seems oblivious to what Kuma is actually talking about…

“So if I do all of those things, can I too become a man?” She asks.
“Well, it takes a bit more than that” She says. “You have to have the attitude”
“What attitude?” Kuma asks.
“That manly sort of attitude” She says. “It’s hard to explain”

Kuma nods in understanding, then looks at you. “Master, I need to borrow your clothes”
“Why?” You ask.
“So I can become a man” She says.
“You realize that Marcella was only pretending to be a man, right?” You ask.

Kuma’s shoulders droop, and she looks back to Marcy.

“Wait, did you actually think that I became a man?” She asks.
Kuma nods slowly.
“Giles, where the hell did you find this girl?” She asks.
“I already told you that” You say.

“So I can’t become a man?” She asks.
“No” You say.

“Why do you want to be a man?” You ask.

Kuma looks at you and thinks for a little while, before shrugging.
“Really? That’s it?” You ask.
“I thought it might be interesting” She says.

“To become a man?” You ask.
Kuma nods, and Selene giggles.
“You’re silly” She says.

“Am I silly?” She asks.
“Yeah!” Selene says.

Kuma ponders this like it’s serious business. “How am I silly?” She asks.
Selene clearly doesn’t have an answer to that, but she powers on regardless. “You don’t hafta have a reason” She says. “You’re just silly”

“So I am” Kuma says. “I can accept that”
Selene pouts angrily. Looks like that wasn’t the reaction she was hoping for.

You pack your stuff back into your cloak and stand up, brushing yourself off and then stretching out.

“So, anyone know what the next town is?” You ask.
“Don’t you?” Marcy asks.
“I do, I wanted to know if you knew” You say.

Marcy rolls her eyes and stands up. “What do you know about it?” She asks.
“It’s a place called Yellowvale” You say. “Supposedly it’s a nice little place, can’t confirm that because I’ve never been there”
“That’s not helpful” Marcy says.
“I’ve been there” Kuma says.
“Really?” Marcy asks.
“Yes” Kuma says.

“What can you tell us about it?” You ask.
“It’s a frequent stop for travellers coming from Harthren. So I don’t think they’ll suspect anyone who claims to be travelling from Harthren” She says.
“Anything else?” You ask.
“Not really” She says. “I hear the Lord is nice enough, but he is still in Harthren”

“So do we go there?” Marcy asks.
“Well, if it's a frequent spot for travellers, we could pick up anything we need. Like food, I think our stocks could use refreshing” You say.
“Could?” Marcy asks. “That bread tasted like a horse’s arsehole”
“Speaking from experience?” You ask.
“Shut it” She says.

“Yeah, I guess we’ll stop there” You say. “We might even stay the night, depending on how the day goes”
“Sounds good” Marcy says. “Maybe then I’ll get an actual bed”
“Not willing to camp?” You ask.
“I will if I have to. But I think a nice bed will do my leg better than the cold ground will” She says.

You start walking, and the three girls follow. “You know we’ll be picking up mats, right?” You ask.
“Still doesn’t beat a bed” She says.
“True” You say. “But it’ll beat a prison bed, if it doesn’t look like we can stay the night”
“I did say I was willing to camp” She says.

“Speaking of that, Kuma?” You say.
“Yes master?” She asks, drawn away from whatever it was she was discussing with Selene.
“When we reach Yellowvale, I’d like you to keep an eye open for any signs of suspicion” You say.
“Yes master” She says.

You chuckle a little as Kuma goes back to her conversation with Selene.
“What’s so funny?” Marcy asks.
“That reminded me of that guy… Coswell I think his name was. He worked for Melissa” You say.
“What about him?” She asks.
“I don’t think I ever heard him say anything but ‘Yes M’lady’.” You say.
“Me neither” She says. “Even when he was fetching us when we arrived. He only addressed the women, and he only ever said that”

How strange…

“I wouldn’t worry about that. Father Pitre wouldn’t share your secret unless you wanted him to” You say.

“Still… I guess I won’t need to do this forever” She says. “I’ll probably go back once our little 2 month stint is up”

“You could probably just stay this way” You say.
“Seriously?” She asks. “How do you think everyone would take that?”
“Not as badly as you think” You say. “At the very least, you would have Selene and I on your side, right Selene?”

“Right!” Selene says. You aren’t sure if she’s actually listening, or if that’s just her natural response to that question.

“And what about Laura? The whole reason I was hired on was because she couldn’t keep it in h-… her p-pants…” She says.
“I don’t think Laura will mind that” You say.
“And what will Eleanor say when she finds out that she’s been crushing on a girl?” She asks. “Hell, she’s not even the only one”

“They’ll be understanding, if not a little embarrassed” You reply.

Marcy sighs in defeat. “If you’re this insistent… I’ll think about it” She says. “But I make no guarantees”
“That’s all I ask” You say.
“Why the hell are you so invested in this anyway?” She asks.

“Because I know that masks tend to get stale and wear thin when worn too long” You say.
“I think mine is still going pretty strong” She says.
“Is it really?” You ask.

“Y-yeah?” She says.
“You didn’t seem too mad when I found out” You say.
“You were there, weren’t you? I friggin’ pulled out my sword and tried to stab you” She says.
“Kneejerk reaction” You say. “And you haven’t been angry about it since”

“Alright, fine. I’ll admit that it’s been nice having someone I didn’t have to hide from” She says.
“Now, imagine if you didn’t have to hide from anyone” You say.
“I said I’d think about it” She says.

You smile.

Behind you, Selene and Kuma continue to prattle on. You aren’t quite sure what they’re talking about, but it sounds like Selene is trying to convince Kuma to teach her how to beat people up…

Now kind of done with your conversation, you pick up the pace and let the others know to do the same.

As nice as it is to walk and talk like this, you’d like to get to Yellowvale as soon as you can. Lots to do there, and very little time in which to do it.

You have to stop and re-enchant Marcy’s bandages once, and at one point you looked back to find Kuma giving Selene a piggy-back ride. But otherwise the trip passes with little of note happening.

When you reach Yellowvale, you find that Kuma was right about it. They don’t even look twice at you when you tell them that you’re travellers, and you get in without a hassle.

“I had a feeling you’d do this” Marcy says.
“Am I that predictable?” You ask.
“Yes” She says, walking into the store.

“Not going to argue?” You ask.
“You’re buying, right?” She asks.
“Well, yeah” You say.
“Then why would I argue?” She asks.

You chuckle and walk in after her, with Selene and Kuma in tow.

“Come on! We’re gonna get you something sooooo pretty!” She says.
“I- uhh- o-okay” Kuma stutters out.

You shrug and let them go about their business. You were planning on getting something for Kuma anyway, especially if she’s going to be joining you outside the shadows more often.

You leave the girls to their business and go over to Marcy, who is going through a dress rack herself.

“See anything?” You ask.
“A few things” She says. “It’s been a long time since I’ve worn anything remotely girlish, so I have no idea what would suit me”
“How about this?” You ask, pulling out a garish number with more ribbons than you thought one dress could hold.

“You have strange taste” She says, taking it from you. “But it could work”
“I was kidding” You say.
“I know” She says with a smile, putting the dress away. “Now, if you’re going to help, try to find something that’s actually nice”

“How about this one?” You ask, pulling the garish, ribbon-covered dress back out.
“Don’t be an ass” She says, snatching it back and putting it away again.

You hum to yourself as you look through for another dress.

“How about this?” You ask, pulling out a dull blue dress.
“It’d probably look pretty nice if my breasts were as big as Melissa’s” She says, clutching her meager chest. “Alas, I was not blessed in that area. I like the colour though.”

You put that one away. Not good, but it’s a start.

You go through a few more until you come across it.

Bingo.

“How’s this?” You ask.
“That’s… damn. I do like this one” She says.

The dress in question is pretty much just a simple sundress, in a blue that’s around the same aqua blue that her uniform used to be.

“That… works” She says, taking the dress from you and holding it against herself. “I’m gonna go try it on”

How meager are we talkin', Smiley?

Bigger than Laura's, but not by much, and Laura's pretty damn small.
>>
>>40025186
If we divide sizes into Small/Average/Large, would you say she's on the big end of Small? Or the small end of Average?
>>
>>40025336
given the used term was meager, I'd say large end of small

“You do that, I’m going to see how the others are doing” You say.
“Okay” She says.

It’s not hard to find them. This is a small shop, and Kuma is currently carrying a lot of dresses.

Like… a lot of dresses.

“Aaaaaaand this one! Aaand this one!” Selene says, plucking dress after dress off the racks and handing them to Kuma.

Kuma gives you a pleading look.
“Hey there, slow down” You say. “What do you need all of those for?”
“I didn’t know what would look good for Kuma, so I picked all the ones that looked nice” She says.
“Were you planning on narrowing it down to one?” You ask.
Selene nods. “Mmhmm! We were gonna take em all to the change rooms and try them aaaaall on, then we could see which one was the best” She says.

Oh dear…

“Alright now. One at a time, Selene” You say, grabbing the dresses from Kuma one-by-one and inspecting them.

As you look over each one, you start a pile for yes’s and no’s. By the end of it, you have a solid pick for each of them.

For Selene, a nice, child-like yellow dress. Even with black hair, yellow still suits her.

For Kuma, a thin, dark blue dress that you think will show juuuuust enough of her toned body.

“Right then, go try those on you two” You say.
“Thaaaaaanks papa!” Selene says.
“Th-thank you” Kuma says.

Then Selene drags Kuma off to the dressing rooms.

Those two get along pretty well, considering the way things were when you first met Kuma…

Okay, no. Scratch that, Selene gets along well, Kuma gets dragged along. Though you’ve never heard her complain.

Period… You’ve never actually heard her complain about anything. Maybe you should ask how she feels about getting dragged along by the little princess.

You follow the girls back to the dressing rooms, and once they’re inside you knock on the one Marcy is in.

“How’s it goin’ in there?” You ask.

The door swings open.
“You tell me” She says, stepping through the doorway and twirling.

“Damn” You say. “Do I ever know how to pick ‘em”
“Right?” She says, twirling back the other way.

“You seem to be enjoying yourself” You say.
“I feel pretty right now” She says. “Don’t ruin my mood”
“Yes ma’am” you say.
“So, where’d the other two go?” She asks.
“In there” You say, pointing to the other dressing room.
“Both of them?” Marcy asks. “I guess they are pretty roomy”

HNNNGGHH

MY HEART
>>
You step back and sit down in one of the cushiony chairs placed strategically near the dressing rooms, and pat the one next to you.

“Take a seat, this might be a while” You say.
“You think so?” She asks.

You hear a bout of giggling from Selene inside the dressing room.

“Okay, yeah” She says, sitting down next to you. “You’re right”
“I usually am” You say.
“Don’t get cocky” She says.

The two of you sit in mildly awkward silence for a few minutes, before Marcy finally breaks it.

“So, what do you do for fun?” She asks.
“Normally?” You ask. “Nothing like this”
“I figured that” She says. “Do you actually consider this fun?”
“To a point” You say. “I think it’s hanging out with you guys that I find fun”
“Aww, that’s sweet” She says.

More giggling from inside the dressing room draws Marcy’s attention. “I should probably go make sure they aren’t being stupid” She says.
“I’ll be here” You reply.

>[1/2]
>>
You hear Marcy scolding Selene about something from the other side of the door, then about 5 minutes later they all come out.

Kuma and Selene both look incredibly cute.

You sure have good taste in dresses.

You pay the shopkeeper for them and you all head back outside.

“That took longer than I thought it would” Marcy says, shielding her eyes from the sun. At the moment it’s starting to drop towards the rooftops.
“Yeah, looks like it’ll be dusk soon” You say.
“You should find somewhere to stay” Kuma says.
“Already?” You ask.

“You don’t have to tuck in for the night yet, but as I said, this place is frequented by travellers” She says.
“And a place frequented by travellers is bound to fill up” You say.

Odd, you didn’t actually see that many people on your way here.

“Alright, I say we split up” You say. “I’ll take Selene and go find a place to stay, you two go see if you can grab supplies”
“Sounds good” Marcy says. “Meet back here?”
“Alright” You say.

You give Marcy a bag of coin, and she leaves with Kuma. Then you take Selene by the hand and go off to find a place to stay.

Selene skips happily along beside you, humming to herself as you go. You spot a few places that look promising, now you just have to find one that has open rooms…

Not the Ritz, but pretty nice!

You go through all of the average looking joints first and find nothing. All of them are full…

“If they’re all full, are we gonna have to stay outside?” Selene asks.
“Not just yet” You say.

You remember seeing a ritzier place on your way to find the dress shop, and decide to go look there. Sure enough, it’s there.

“Hotel de la Bella” You say, reading the sign. “Interesting name”

While it says hotel, the place looks more like a manor. It’s a good 5 stories high, with bright white walls and big ornate windows going all the way up.

“Are we staying here?” Selene asks.
“Maybe” You say. “If they have room”

You take Selene in and talk to the man at the desk. He looks more like a butler than a manager, and he acts like one too.

Thankfully, they have a room open. It’s pricey, but still within reason. You reserve the room and tell the man that you’ll be back with your other companions and leave.

You and Selene head back to the meeting spot, and they aren’t there.

“Must still be picking things up” You say, finding a place to sit.

Selene plops herself down in your lap and leans her head into your chest while you stroke her hair.

“So, you seem to like our new travelling companion” You say.
“She’s cooool” Selene says. “She’s gonna teach me all about how to wrestle”
“She’s going to teach you how to wrestle?” You ask.
“And punch, and how to drop on somebody from above” Selene says.

She’s certainly not hard to please. All you have to do is promise to show her some tricks.

“It occurs to me that I haven’t asked you this yet” You say.
Selene tilts her head. “Asked me what?” She asks.
“If there’s anywhere you want to go while we’re bumming around” You say.

Well… you aren’t really bumming around. Most bums can’t afford to stay in the kinds of places that you’re about to occupy…

Selene thinks about where she wants to go, and her face gets somber. “Can we go home?” She asks.
“Back to the palace?” You ask.
Selene nods.
“Eventually” You say. “First we’ve got to kick Rick the dick out, and then it’s all yours”
“When will that be?” She asks.
“Soon” You say.

Selene smiles, satisfied by your answer.

“Wow, I didn’t think you guys would beat us here” Marcy says, drawing your attention back up to see her and Kuma approaching.

“Hey there, you guys find everything we need?” You ask.
“Probably” Marcy says. “If not, there’s always tomorrow. What about you guys? You find us a place to sleep?”
“Yep” You say.
“It’s not some dive, is it?” She asks.
“Just wait” You say. “I guarantee you’ll be surprised”

That's all for tonight. I hope you guys still enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy writing it!

Next thread will be sometime during the week. I'm not even going to say what day, because I honestly have no fucking clue.

As always I'll be sticking around for question/suggestion time!
