This is a quest based on the Phatnasy Star series of video games. You are Pheonixia, a newman force and member of the Hunter's Guild.

* Every 20 minutes, a post will be made with a series of choices to be made. Players may vote on any single or logical combination of choices. The most popular choices voted on within the first 15 minutes will be used.

* Write in votes with sufficient support may also be used.

* After the vote has been decided. The QM will roll relevant dice to determine success rate for the next progress post.

* You can follow Twitter account @sbf2009 for updates between quest sessions. https://twitter.com/sbf2009

* Previous sessions can be viewed on suptg. http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=PSOQ

The difficulty of an action will be stated as part of the choice for the vote, but not the numerical value needed to succeed. You can estimate the roll needed using the chart below.

Dice Roll Difficulty:

> Trivial (1-2): Most Hunter's Guild Members would have little trouble accomplishing this.

> Easy (3-4): Not necessarily difficult, but it would be best to let a specialist take over if available.

> Moderate (5-6): A strenuous task. If your class does not specialize in this kind of task, you may wish to find an easier alternative.

> Hard (7-9): Only an experienced guild member should risk this.

> Heroic (10-15): Not possible by even experienced guild members. Even legendary hunters like Rico Tyrell would hesitate to try such a task.

> Impossible (16+): As it sounds. Such actions defy perceptions of reality.

Current stats: 5 STR/7 DEX/10 MIND

Last Time:

“Well, let's say that the person using the ryuker conduit is a sailboat, and the dark matter is like a whirlpool you can't really see. If you just keep sailing toward...”

Tyrell's eye briefly twitches. “I didn't get this job by not knowing the basics of transportation! Stop patronizing me and just answer the question!”

You feel your heart sink to somewhere around your boots.

“Uhm...N-no, sir. Not for now. I have a fix in place, but you should probably have some additional gravitational sensors hooked up for safety's sake. The Lab might also have a few suggestions as to what should be done.”

“Good. I'll forward the data to them.”

You turn to leave.

Tyrell stands up. “One more thing. Given the nature of the native life, I think that we'll be restricting all travel to Ragol without a permit. Are you up for future missions planet-side?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good. Read this file and report to me tomorrow.” He taps a few buttons on his console. Your MAG gives off a sound indicating it has mail. “That will be all.”

You wait until you have the privacy of the elevator before you open the file. It's a dossier on Rico Tyrell.

For those unaware or not familiar with PSO, "Red Ring Rico" Tyrell is a top-flight hunter, daughter of the resident commander-in-chief and major plot device forst a major chunk of the actual PSO game; Red Ring Rico went missing, so you spend much of the first half of the game following her trail.

You read the summary:

Rico “Red Ring Rico” Tyrell -Feale Human Hunter. Guild member for 8 years on recommendation from Heathcliff Flowen. High scores on combat, and tactics. Perfect Score on survival. Exotic weapons specialist. Primarily uses sabers in combat. Moderate technique proficiency.

She certainly sounded like something special.

The elevator opens up. You find Kireek and a couple soldiers awaiting the elevator.

“Hey! Kireek!” You to him as he walks by.

He seems a bit preoccupied, but returns the wave. “Hey kid. Good job yesterday. Not bad for your first day. But you’re going to have to learn how to keep your cool a bit better if you ever want to take the lead on a team commission.”

“Uhm...thanks.” You take the mixed compliment. Kireek probably doesn't know how not to give constructive criticism. “What are you up to right now?”

“I’ve got a meeting with Tyrell about another mission. Classified.” He turns back around to the elevator. The soldiers follow him.

...

You collect your earnings from the hunters guild counter. The woman bids you a nice day, and you are free to relax before your meeting with Tyrell tomorrow.

You take your earnings and head to the shopping district. You want to focus on getting something useful for the upcoming missions, especially after that wolf bite.

The nearby notice board is posting news updates and announcements from the principals office. Tyrell wasn't kidding about the restrictions...

‘State of Emergency declared on Pioneer 2. Principal Tyrell restricts all shuttle movement to WORKS officials and special permits granted to Hunter’s Guild.’

The other stories seem to be sentient interest stories, advertisements for VR simulations, and a a speculative piece on organized crime.

You get to the shopping district and find it completely crowded. Better to choose which stall you want to visit now because the lines will be terrible.

I'm not keeping track of hard stats like that. We already have the attributes to roll with. Essentially, you have the opportunity right now to pick up some items or techniques that can help either give you a larger variety of choices in the future, or make the difficulty checks a little easier. You guys can pick up two things right now. Your inventory:

Weapons:
Handgun
Cane

Armor:
Basic Frame

Technique:
Foie (Basic Fire Technique)
Barta (Basic Ice Technique)
>>
>>40021420

You can get a frame with a booster unit on it to give you a bit of a push. But Shifta would have a stronger effect.

Or we could always go for a more conventional blaster mage setup. What's the electric force spell?
>>
>>40021708
A flame wall or auto-turret would certainly be more useful than armor or dashing if we have to set up more Ryukers.
>>
>>40021594

You make your way to the front of the technique shop’s line. While considerably shorter than the weapon shop’s line, the wait was still irritating to say the least. The lady at the counter greats you.

“May I see your guild card, please?”

You hand it over and look over the inventory. Information discs with subroutines for your cane. Risking using a technique without knowledge or proper equipment is risky, which is what keeps this store in business.

“Thank you, Pheonixia. How may I help you?”

> A. Zonde (Basic Electric Technique – Strikes a target with electricity from the nearest convenient source)

> B. Gifoie (Moderate Fire Technique – Creates a ring of fire to seperate you from your enemies)

On second thought, saving would be prudent. You thank the clerk and leave the shop. You take the subroutine disc and install it into your cane. The actual technique instruction will probably take a few hours for you to grasp properly.

Exiting the shop, you find that the shopping district has somehow become more crowded. The only way to get through to the transport shuttles is sliding and shoving your way through. You bump into Ash in the middle of the crowd.

“Pheonixia! Hey!” At the very least, he’s a lot more excited to see you than Kireek was. “I just got out of the weapons shop, heh. Figures I’d find you around here though.” Excited might be the wrong word. He seems...nervous?

He stops you just outside the guild. “Look, these guys are old friends of mine, but they can be a bit...much. Just ignore most of what they say.”

“I’m sure your friends are fine.” Is that what he’s worried about?

“Yeah but...”

You get impatient, “Let’s just go to the bar already!” You start walking. Ash follows you, looking somewhat defeated.

You get to the counter and three human men great Ash with buzzed hurrahs.

“Hey if it isn’t our little hunter. And look, he brought his girlfriend.” The stocky, green-haired one holds up his mug.

You grab his hand by the wrist with a firm grib, then reel back and deliver a headbutt that knocks him into a nearby lounge chair. Ash is both mortified and, somehow, ammused. The rest of the bar is now looking on.

“Tell you what, ladies man.” You grab his beer mug, “If you can lift this mug off the counter, maybe we can talk.”

The green haired man laughs, “What the hell kind of a drinking game is that? Come on Bernie, don’t let Mrs. Force show you up!”

You down the mug, quickly flip it over, and slam it down on the counter. The blonde casually tries to lift it up...but finds that it seems stuck to the counter. He starts using two hands...then using his leg to push against the counter. The mug finally comes up with a loud sucking noise, and continues up until it hit’s the third man’s head.

He rubs his cheek and laughs, “Ash sure kknow how to pick ‘em. Sure, I’m having a Blue Star.”

You get him a new drink and turn to Ash. “Ash, you still haven’t properly introduced,” you cast a dissaproving glare to the other men, “your friends.”

Bernie contributes, “You know the kind. Cruises, VR sims, for the right price when no one’s looking, newm-“ Bacci unsubtly jabs him in the ribs and gestures toward you, “temporary companionship.”

Gizel continues, “They sent off the Gran Squall to go on an orbit cruise right before the explosion. They went out of communication afterwards. WORKS picked up some distress beacons and the company sent out hunters to track them down.”

Bernie gulps his drink. “The bastards didn’t even have enough escape pods for the damned ship. Figures a company like that would cut corners when it mattered. We tracked down 12 pods that still had active transponders. Know what we found?”

You don’t answer.

“Ninety-five corpses. You know how I know they didn't have enough escape pods?” He doesn't wait for you to answer this time. “All kids. Every damned one of them. Now here’s the best part.”

Bacci interrupts, “Look man, she doesn't need to hear this part.”

“Shut up, I’m telling the story!” Bernie takes another drink. “Each escape pod holds eight people. We found ninety-five corpses and one kid still breathing, barely. We had to patch him up with a dimate and have Gizel carry him on his back.”

Bacci get’s angry, “That’s enough, Bernie!”

“No! We just ‘successfully’ completed a mission, so I’m going to brag about it. So Gizel’s got the kid on his back, right? Kid can’t even breath. We’re half a klick out from the conduit, and we get jumped by a pack of alien wolves. Before we knew it, the kid was gone, Gizel’s on the ground, and we’re surrounded. Barely made it out of there in one piece.”

Bacci rubs his temples. “We were never trained to take on the stuff that’s on Ragol right now. Tyrell’s got the right idea closing down travel. The three of us probably aren’t even going to keep doing missions planetside.” He places a small capsule down on the counter. “This is the only good thing that came out of the mission. I don't know who you are, but you must know that there's something unusual about Ragol. This is important. Pay attention to everything around you if you want to survive.”

She goes on to describe the birds, sloths, wolves, and a few other creatures you haven’t encountered yet.

“What made the animals become so violent all of a sudden? They weren't before. They were very quiet and friendly... There must be some cause. I'll find it. I know I'm a fool. This won't make me any richer. Perhaps that's why I'm exalted by them... Red Ring Rico, ha, ha. But I'm not really the great hunter citizens say I am. They needed a hero. And I just happened to fill that position.”

Her face becomes a bit more sullen. “A disaster occurred. Things were shaking, then something broke through the surface. And then it exploded in the Central Dome! I don't know what to say... For 7 years, we've tried to adjust and improve the environment. What was it? Was it related to the accidents we've had recently? Where is everyone else? Why can’t I find anyone who survived the explosion?”

“Pioneer 1 may have damaged the ecological system of Ragol before we were aware of it. So, the native creatures tried to remove the invaders. That's one supposition. But what about the explosion? I need more information. I have to go do some research.”

You wake up early to meet with the Principal. On the way out of the transport shuttle, you bump into Ash again.

“Hey, Pheonixia. Small ship, eh?” He’s less tense than he was yesterday.

“Hi, Ash. I was just about to meet with Tyrell. What are you doing?”

“Me? I picked up another contract before I left the guild yesterday. I’m going to go meet the client.” Ash seems very proud of himself

You remember how little time you have to spare. “Well good luck. I have to head out.”

He stops you. “Wait. Before you go, sorry about yesterday. I didn’t know that was going to happen, they just invited me over when they got back onboard.”

“It’s fine, Ash.” You start to get impatient.

“Maybe next time we can hang out without the guys?”

You don’t have any time for this. “Yeah, sure Ash. Look I’m in a hurry.”

“Right, ok, good luck!” Ash heads off to the guild hall while you take the elevator up.

...

Secretary Irene escorts you in before leaving you and Tyrell by yourselves.

“I trust you’ve had time to read over Rico’s files.”

“Sir, I’ve only had time to read the summary. But I did manage to get my hands on this.” You place the capsule on his desk and activate it.

“Rico...” His face softens. It seems like he is close to tears. You both stand in silence as Rico repeats her message. When the capsule deactivates, Tyrell finally responds.

“Sir, we have every reason to believe Rico is still alive somewhere around the Central Dome area.” You stand at attention, waiting for him to say anything.

Tyrell finally composes himself. “It would do you well to read the dossier before your next mission. You are to continue to take any Hunter’s Guild mission that will lead you to the Central Dome. Finding Rico is your top priority, before any guild business.” He clears his throat. “Don’t disclose this mission to anyone.”

“Understood, sir.”

“Pheonixia, I cannot stress this enough. I am placing an incredible amount of trust in you, do not dissapoint me. It may surprise you to hear this, but I am not the only person in power on this ship. Rumors of misallocated resources could be disasterous. But...” he looks you dead in the eye, “this is my only daughter.”

You nod your head. “I know sir. I’ll find her. I promise.”

“Thank you Pheonixia.” Tyrell sits back down. “You are dismissed.”

Irene walks you to the elevator. “I overheard your conversation, sorry.”

You shoot her a glance. “So much for privacy...”

“Privacy is in short supply around here. Just a word of warning, Colin wasn’t exagerating.” She gives you a serious look. “If you’re going to be helping him like this, be careful of what you say around certain people. Especially soldiers, or that cast you seem attached to.” Irene heads back to her desk.

Sorry my response times were so slow. I had a lot of content I wanted to share in the 20 minute intervals. Next session we're going planetside unless very strange choices are made, so less grimdark and more combat.

As always, follow @sbf2009 on twitter for updates to the quest when I actually make proper announcements. suptg has old quests under the PSOQ tag until that gets wiped..

I'm guessing we won't be supplied a Ryuker to avoid the return trip?

Well, it's very likely that Rico will be escorting us rather than the other way around.
>>
>>40026971
Finding Rico is long-term. See >>40020434.
>>
>>40026971

You're still pretty inexperienced and the infrastructure is pretty primitive for that just quite yet. Once you've established a strong presence in the Central Dome, things like telepipe or a Ryuker technique will be more feasible. Right now, the government is still trying to reclaim Pioneer I resources.

>>40027058
okay, let me rephrase: I guess we won't be allowed to return very often to resupply unless it's with resources?
>>
>>40027101

More or less. If you're going out on a mission, be sure you're able to accomplish your goal and get back.
>>
>>40027170
so can we kill the cute rappies or should we encage it and then sell it to anyone who want one for easy money
>>
>>40031039
I think we need to figure out what causes them to go hostile, first.

Whether we remove that possibility or abuse it to make cute little tyke bombs is a whole different question.
