The sun shines ever on as you pull yourself back onto the beach and start wiping the water off of your scales. Nearby your new merrow friends have started doing similar, much more slowly since they lack the advantages lizards have. Advantages like legs. You're laden with the spoils of a single well dressed skeletons worth of loot and that isn't as much as you'd like for the amount of skeleton shaped things that tried to kill you to keep you from getting it.

At least you learned a neat trick where you spin on your head and use your arms to make yourself go so fast. That was fun. Also incredibly damaging to skeleton things, fragile as they were.

Mom and "Natty", the mertwins' mom, are still on the beach and have stopped chatting in favor of looking at you and your friends expectantly. You're carrying a shiny new sword, they probably would like to know where you got it.

As you retell your tale to the moms their expressions change very little. Mom is probably used to you going out and doing dangerous stuff by now. Your friends' mom just looks shocked and disturbed though. She hasn't moved in a bit. You wrap up the story by showing off the discs, er, coins that you found alongside the shiny sword. Mom is apparently impessed by the coins, complimenting you on the variety of them more than the number.

"You'll have to see if someone can rework the sword when you go to town," she says, after looking at the sword.

"Wait," mom's friend interrupts, her tentacles twitching in annoyance, "That's it? You aren't worried she got hurt or that something could have happened?"

Mom exchanges a look with you and you both shrug at the giant squid woman.

"It wasn't bad," you tell her, "Just some weird skeleton shaped things. What were those anyway? Bugs? Like stick bugs? They were creepy."

Now everyone is staring at you. What'd you say?

"No, Sunny," Mom says, "Those were probably just skeletons."

You blink. That doesn't make sense. Since when do skeletons get up and move around by themselves. Should you be worried about some of those things you swallowed whole?

"No. They were probably made with magic. The dead usually stay down unless someone makes them get up."

"so those were real bones trying to eat me?"

"I'm not sure how well they could eat you in their condition but yes."

That's...

That's actually not surprising now that you consider it. You've literally bled the might of the sun from you scales and immolated your enemies as you burned in holy flame. The world will have to come up with something more interesting than walking bones to be creepy. If it happened all the time and without warning that'd probably be something else but as long as those blue jays you swallowed aren't going to start pecking you from the inside you're not terribly concerned.

"Why would anyone wastes magic on that," you wonder aloud.

"Usually they're just easier to use to guards a place for a very long time," mom explains.

"How's that?" Natty asks.

"They don't asks for food, pay, or a comfortable place to sleep."

That actually does sound kind of useful. "But they weren't guardings anything, you tell her. Except maybe the one skeleton that didn't gets up."

"I think they probably gots up before they were ready," Mom says, "From what you describeds the man left probably was trapped when his friends ran."

Poor guy. Still you got a free sword out of it, speaking of which.

"Why do I need to gets my sword messed with at the town?" you ask, inspecting it again for any defect. It still looks like its in perfect working order, years in a cave and a dip in the ocean withstanding.

"Trys to swing it," Mom suggests.

You shrug and wrap your hand around the hilt and immediately realize the problem as you draw the sword out fully for the first time. Your fingers are longer than a normal elves, and thicker. The hilt is too thin and the bit of metal wrapping around the hilt gets in the way of a good grip. You swing it and can feel how the sword doesn't seem as sure as your macuahuitl.

"Elf hands are smaller than most lizards. And shaped slightly different. You can use it this way but it will not be very comfortable."

That's a bit disappointing. You fiddle around with your sword on the beach for a bit, Milly watching your footwork with interest while Dezzy sits further into the surf doing something. Mom and Natty return to their chat, though it sounds like now they're discussing parenting methodologies. Specifically mom's nonchalance at your jumping into dangerous situations. As they talk you notice the squid woman idly rubbing one of the tentacles where mom got a clean bite and you remember a question you had earlier.

"You change colors," you say to mom suddenly, she looks at you and nods before waiting expectantly for you to explain your comment. "Why?"

"Ah. I have many kinds of poisons and venoms. When I change poisons my color is also changed."

"And blue is your antidote color?" Milly jump in.

Mom shakes her head. "Blue is the opposite of purple. If I bit you with blue you'd still die."

Milly seems confused by that but you can explain. "Most poisons do damage, but in a certain way. If another poison does the opposite then it will cancel out." Mom nods and you feel proud of yourself for knowing the answer. You aren't going to volunteer that you know this because you've had to hang out a with healers a couple times.

"So why did you turn purple again if you're still poisonous?" Milly asks.

You roll your eyes at such a dumb questions. "Her scale pattern is prettiest in purple, duh. Blue doesn't look nearly as nice."

Mom covers her face at your answer but doesn't say anything to correct you.

You listen to Mom and Natty for a minute. Apparently Mom is really impressed that you've already grown once, and she really wants to see how far you get despite the problems you've had/caused. If she were to worry about every little thing you did whatever you're doing to make you grow so fast might stop working. Then she starts talking about the general lizard viewpoint of offspring and how they have a lot at once since most of them die anyway, and you get bored.

Then you're struck by the realization that you've been on the beach for hours now and haven't eaten a single crab. That changes now. You conspire with Milly and she agrees to help you with your noble quest in exchange for a cut of the spoils. Apparently crab isn't a thing she's tried yet. Fish are just "like right there" so it never occured to her to try them. The two of you scurry/slide off and leave Dezzy and the mom's to their own devices.

Two hours later you're back, more than a dozen good sized crabs in a bit of discarded fishing net Milly found. Two or three easily bigger than the one you fought when you were still tiny. Sadly you couldn't find a crab big enough to be a challenge for you. You start setting up the stuff you need to prepare the crab for consumption while mom and the other watch.

"I thought you were hunting crabs," Mom says, looking pointedly at five seagull corpses you tangled in the outside of your net. You agree that yes you were hunting crabs. She waits for something but you're not sure what she's waiting for so you just continue squeezing meat out of the crabs before turning to clean the seagulls you happened upon in the course of your hunting.

"Are you going to share with the rest of us?" Mom adds.

You look at the pile of crab meat then at the behemoth and leviathan mothers.

Exchanging a look with Milly you come to a quick conclusion. You're going to need more crabs. You gather up the net again and tie it around you waist before tucking your sword into the makeshift belt. Together the two of you head back the way you came, the snickers of your mothers hissing behind you. You think they're trying to talk but find something too funny.

Last time you and Milly mostly stuck to the beach and surf where you could both move around. Maybe you should cast a wider net.

You follow Milly into the water and the two of you swim around looking for a place crabs might live. You pick up one or two small crabs as you swim. Sadly auntie's tracking lessons didn't prep you for underwater hunting that well. You think you're supposed to hunt by the smell in the water but you can't really sniff around underwater. You're fairly reliant on Milly's talents here and she's been fairly clear her talents are better for fish. Apparently some fish are like birds of the sea. You made a point for her to tell you more about these "dolphins" later.

After a seemingly endless amount of searching you spot a long crack in the seafloor. Upon closer inspection you find the crab is full of things that apparently hide inside to avoid large creatures. You can see very large crabs not terribly far in. Even further down the crack widens and you think you see even larger crabs.

You signal Milly to follow you and swim down. You pass several nice sized crabs, including one that might be fun to wrestle with, but nothing so stupendous it could feed mom. As you thought the crack gets wider and wider as you go down. When you finally reach the smooth stony bottom you're in an area that even mom could sit in quite comfortably.

You're also devoid of crabs. Most of the creatures living in this hole stop about 10 meters from the bottom. Small crabs and urchins and the like still persist but nothing near your size is in sight. Milly seems confused too, and pokes around looking for sign the large crabs you know have to be down here are hiding.

>Help Milly look. They've got to be somewhere

While Milly swims around checking behind some of the irregular rock pillars and formations you start sifting around in the layer of sand over the rock you're standing on. You shuffle sand off and follow the slope of the rock plate underneath to a crack where it abuts another rock in a nearly vertical line. When you try to pry them apart you find the two shift apart with surprisingly little force. You see sand flying up around the edges of the crack as the plates of rock shift. A gap opens into a deeper space beneath them. you can see a short ways into it by your glow, the only thing illuminating this entire crack.

You look up to signal Milly over to follow you and find her higher up in the crack pointing at you and making crab motions with her hands. Then she gives you the "go up" thumbs up. You look down into the squarish hole you opened. It might be unreasonable to expect crabs to be in the hole if you had to go to this much effort to open up the cave. And Milly seems fairly insistent.

After a moment's consideration you head up. The mermaid may have found a big crab for you to fight. As you swim you notice that the slow rain of particulate matter that always seems to float in the ocean has started to flow past you faster. Then you feel a solid current pulling you back down toward the bottom.

You swim faster as the current pulling you down grows stronger. Finally you just reach your claws out and dig into the side of the crack. Climbing up the side assisted by your paddling tail. Progress is slow but you're able to look over your shoulder and see a distortion in the water around the hole you opened, which looks significantly less hole like and a lot more like a mouth.

Returning your gaze up to your climb you see your mermaid friend struggling against the current. She's not going back down like you were but she's clearly not escaping it either. You also notice all the critters you passed on the way down have either hidden or are hunkering down to the sides of the crag.

Then the flow of water cuts off and you start making serious progress. Above you Milly stops swimming and looks like she's trying to catch her breath. Her gills, flap open and shut rapidly on her sides. Everything else above remains hidden or solidly stuck to the surface.

>Keep going, swim properly now. Get out of the crack.

Claws to stone you continue climbing. Above you Milly is quickly recovering and starting to complete her exit. You look over your shoulder and look back down again. The mouth isn't moving but you can feel the earth trembling beneath your claws. Then you notice those rock pillars you'd written off ARE moving, bracing themselves against the crag walls and pulling something up. And indeed so is the mouth. It's just not closing. It's getting closer.

Then the water around the mouth distorts and you have only an instant to dig your claws in before the distortion grows as it approaches and hits you. The flow down has been replaced by a blast of water that causes you to temporarily unhook from the watery cliff face before you recover your grip. When the force persists you use it to start a controlled slide back toward the surface. You've lost sight of Milly but the blast probably blew her clean out of the crag, and with a third dimension available again she'd probably get clear easily.

You yourself feel the back half of you slide off the top of the cliff edge when the blast ends, much faster than the suction did. Around you various critters that weren't gripping hard enough float in the water flailing wildly.

If Milly comes back, tell her to go get mom!
If she doesn't come back, assume she went to go get mom.

This is about the opposite of basking. Mom can do the mom-sized hunting herself from now on.

Whipping around in the water in a weird perfect circle you get your head and shoulders over the top of the crag, your tail and hips replacing you in it. Blessed sunlight is finally on you again and you feel the stronger for it. You almost climb out when something occurs to you and you clamp down on the rock so hard you think your claws sank into the stone.

You're immediately rewarded when the suction resumes again, much worse than before. You guess whatever was down there was still warming up with the first round and you feel a cold iron thread of fear spike up your back when you hear what sounds distinctly like rock cracking and tearing away. You're too terrified to pull your head away from your perch to see what tore away, all you know is the spot you're in is still solid and you're not being sucked into a mouthy death.

Then the suction stops and you climb out of the crack and haul tail away so fast you'd think it was on fire. Behind you you can see massive columnar legs reaching out of the crack and sweeping the ocean floor around you. Then the ground groans and you nearly lose your breath letting out a terrifed shriek. It takes you a moment to realize what happened. The legs of the monster behind you flailing and clawing at the ground trying to pull its bulk out of the ground and finding the top of the crack too small to pass through.

Milly swims down to you and you both watch as the legs begin moving after a moment, now carrying the colossal beast sideways in the trench into deeper ocean. Milly seems slightly worried by this and signals for you both to surface.

As soon as you can hear she starts freaking out. Apparently she noticed from a higher angle that the legs were legs and what you were digging into was a mouth. Recognizing a giant crab when she sees it she tried to get you to come out but the underwater language barrier manifested itself.

You do your best to calm her before she drops another bomb. She recognizes the crack now. Further out to sea it widens into a proper underwater canyon. The crab is probably going to get out soon and then will start eating everything in the area since the two of you woke it. You're pretty sure you woke it, but she wants some of the blame and you really don't want to foot the bill for this by yourself.

You're probably going to need mom for that thing. Probably Milly's mom too.

If you have anything you look forward to the lizard being able to do let me know. I don't know that everything is realistic with one evo but it'll at least give me more ideas to work with

Alright, where's this bastard glowing red
>>
>>40061058
Solar burst to find it?

Also good work decoding it!
>>
>>40060710
>>Yes
Hey, hey guys! What if we used solar beam on it!? Solar beam is super effective on water and rock types, and this crab is clearly both!
>>
>>40061312
Sadly we don't now solar beam yet. Also Kuru is the plant type.
>>
>>40061330
But we can use sun attacks, and solar beam is a grass type attack. Which makes sense for reasons despite the fact that its literally a beam of fire/laser.
>>
>>40061343
Beam of collected and focused sunlight. So far I think we're a water ground type like Mudkip.
>>
>>40061343
photosynthesis is a plant thing! So clearly lasers!

Also we should be careful, there was that one crab pokemon that was Bug/Rock not water, bug is strong against grass
>>
>>40061390
But we aren't a grass type, are we? What are we anyway? I'm leaning towards water ground as said above, the species as a whole is evolved to swim effectively.
>>
>>40061449
We are a Sun type.

Sometimes we go underwater, but it's just so we can shed the light of the sun on the abyssal dwellers.

Sometimes we go underground, but it's only because the sun might be killing us because we suck at magic and became more sun than lizard.

But we are always Sun typed.
>>
>>40061449
Nah I just meant Solar Beam won't hit as hard as we expect if he was some Bug mix is all
>>
>>40061449
Kuru is obviously grass type, Sariisa is dark/water?

Mom is Fighting/poison.

>>40061491
I'd agree but no sun type pokemans.
>>
>>40061505
Hey guys what if we are Fairy type.
>>
>>40061554
I somehow doubt we're immune to dragons. Probably closest to sun though.
>>
By the way, I can't wait to see how we confront our mom about this "Sooo, I have good news and bad news, the good news is we found something big enough to feed both of you. Unfortunately we also may have also woken up crab'thulu...
>>
>>40061697
MOM! HEY! Found a crab to feed you! Come see!
>>
>>40061728
Right, I forgot we're young and naive, this is the right response! Especially as it MASSIVELY underplays the severity of the situation!

Also I vote to hereby refer to this monster as crab'thulu.
>>
>>40061755
Seconded. Mom's going to regret sending us out to hunt for her.
>>
>>40061449
I'd say water-fire, honestly.
Or fire-poison, by nature of lizard
>>
>>40061771
You guys really don't know your mom very well. You probably just won "favorite child forever but don't tell your siblings"

Alright Meta Iguana Challenge active. 2 Active challenges!
>>
>>40061771
Mom's going to be so proud of us*
Milly's mom is going to forbid our friendship. It will lead to starcrossed adventuring comrads, being perpetually dragged down by the whiny mertwin dezzy who keeps threatening to tattle.
>>
>>40061825
I can see that, of Course Dezzy could be a bro about it yet.

>>40061804
Is that if we complete the challenge? Or just for what we've already done?
>>
>>40061058
Hmmm... Crab's weak point.

I'd say on the underbelly, just behind the mouth. The shell is much thicker, and going straight up through that goes straight to the brain. We need a spear.

Or a harpoon.
>>
>>40061873
Or an elven sword tied haphazardly to a strong stick.
>>
>>40061853
Can you imagine how much fucking MEAT is in that thing?
It could probably keep mom fed for several days.

Hey, Lamb, what would have happened if we crawled into the crab's mouth?
>>
>>40061909
We'd get the vore bad end.
>>
>>40061873
Or we could do what the Mantis shrimp does and punch it at 1200fps.
>>
>>40061885
Nah, the cross guard/hilt would stop it. You want the tip to be thicker than the shaft.
>>
>>40061930
L-lewd
>>
>>40061922
Quiet you. You'll attract the HueHueHues
>>
>>40061873
>>40061926
Or we could tail whip it until its defense was low enough for us to do actual damage.
>>
>>40061942
Pretty sure tailwhip is a damage dealer/guard breaker in this game anon.

>>40061804
About how many evos does that crab have?
>>
>>40061922
... I miss him...

>>40061942
By god, yes. And it DEFINITELY won't have killed us with rock tomb at that point.
>>
>>40061942
>Not wanting to punch it fast enough to create plasma.

Disgusting.
>>
It's big, sure, but does it 420praiseit?
>>
>nobody wants to tear it apart... from the inside

Ultron would be ashamed.
>>
>>40062577
Ultron can't bask luminously so why should we care?
>>
>>40062577
I was considering that.
But I'd prefer going inside it and using magic wrong. Roast the sucker.
>>
>>40062577
I was considering that but Some crabs have teeth in their stomach so it's probably not the smartest Idea.

...You guys remember that one time Spidertits killed a giant crab and it had a water stone inside?
>>
>>40062972
Yes I do. Odds on the stone being the weak point?
>>
>>40063024
The stone is the loot. Don't damage it, asshole.
>>
>>40063149
Well it'd likely encased, but taking it out should open up a weakpoint, since the flesh would need to connect to use it.
>>
How about we get on its back where it can't do shit all about us, and smash it repeatedly with a pick axe.
>>
>>40061909
I call Hue to write an ending.
>>40061969
fourish? It used to be a fairly normal good sized crab
