General Synopsis/Quick Introduction: As the subject line implies, this quest will be taking place within the Nasuverse

For those not as well-read into TYPE-MOON's works, please do not feel overwhelmed or threatened; I will do my best to ease as many of you in as possible

This particular installment of the quest will be continuing our latest trend of beginning with our main character, instead of with a prologue featuring his Great Grandfather, whose penis began this entire shitshow.

In a normal post you can expect me to provide four options with the fifth being a prompt for write-ins.

Thank you in advance for any consideration you may give this thread and please feel free to offer any criticism or feedback.

Previously - We went out on a date. Despite the fact that we are the bastard, half-breed son of a mythological horror and a housewife, we managed to convince a girl that we're an alright guy. Lucky us! However, our good mood was slightly spoiled once we learned that our 'Grandpa Eli' has set up some sort of training program with a mysterious branch of the church. On the bright side, we managed to get our friend, Dante Wilson, to join us at game night. So there's that.

The last seven and a half weeks have been some of the most physically, mentally and emotionally tasking of your life. Given the enormity of the responsibilities that have been placed upon you, you relished in the opportunity to push yourself physically. To take out all of your frustration upon a target that would accept it without much complaint; yourself.

You have pushed your boundaries and found yourself capable of remaining standing, though, in many cases, only barely. Your weekday schedule consists of waking up at 6 AM, taking part, alongside Dante, in a 10 Kilometer run and then returning to a nutritious, but fairly bland breakfast. Then, the two of you get into weight and strength training. When Afternoon rolls around and lunch has been served, the two of you switch to sparring and skill training. You practice numerous situations, many combative but some focused purely upon things like stealth or surveillance.

All in all, you have learned quite a bit during the last two months or so. But, your incredibly tiring workout and training schedule aside...what have you been doing during your free time?

A) Going out with Jessie. You enjoy spending time with her and it relaxes you.
B) Getting some extra training in with Dante; he's an incredible athlete and seems to learn almost purely by instinct
C) Gaming with the Anime Club; it's always fun to pretend to be other people...especially when Toby is GMing
D) Studying lore; your 'Grandpa Eli' has so much information in his private study and he's more than fine with you perusing it
E) Some mix of the two (Only gain half the benefits of any one option)

Over the last seven and a half weeks, you've managed to split your free time almost evenly between hanging out with Jessie and training with Dante. Fortunately for you, it seems that Jessie has been given weekends off this summer, so the pair of you have spent most of your saturday afternoons together. You've taken Jessie swimming and she's taken you to art classes. You've taught her how to shoot a bow and she's taught you how to sketch. You've taught her how to roller-blade and she's taught you how to skate-board.

And, it seems, the two of you have taught each other the basics of kissing. You've finally stopped puckering your lips so much that they become hard and she's finally stopped giggling whenever you two take a break.

However, the rest of your weekends have been spent in grueling sparring matches, races and push/pull-up competitions with Dante. He's taught you quite a bit about fighting outside of your weight class and you've taught him....basically everything else. As it turns out, his fighting expertise was really just learning how to avoid getting punched in the face. He didn't even know not to tuck his thumb into his palm when he made a fist. Damn near dislocated it the first time he hit you with a right straight.

But overall, your hard-work seems to be paying off. You've put on a fair bit of muscle and even Jessie seems to be taking notice, though she hasn't mentioned it since you went swimming two weeks ago. Dante has also become a pretty close friend; he's funny and shares a few of your interests. He also seems to like you and Jessie as a couple, though he always snickers whenever he sees you two together.

So, your friendship with Dante having grown into full-on brodom, the two of you slouch in the entertainment room of your Grandpa Eli's home. You have spread yourself across the incredibly comfortable couch while Dante hangs by the heels of his feet from the loveseat beside the couch. Neither of you are particularly invested in this episode of dragonball and have simply been trading stories about your lives. You've come to possess a very basic understanding of what Dante and his father do and what the church has to do with it.

Dante is basically a monster slayer. The church arbitrarily decides upon which monsters are 'heretical' and sends monster slayers after them. The Wilson family has worked within the church for a very long time and it has come to the church's attention that Dante has the potential to change the world with his actions, so they are intent on having a hand on he does so. Thus, he must pass some sort of grueling test to join some sort of 'executioner' squad. His other option? Allow his little sister to be put through what he's going through.

Needless to say, he's intent on succeeding.

Thankfully, your situation isn't too far off, in terms of insanity and danger, so you two have gotten along fairly well.

But as a break in conversation forms you feel the need to fill it with...

A) Ask Dante about Carlos and that gang he's rumored to be a part of; is that going to be a problem for you?
B) Ask Dante more about the church; it's pretty interesting and you figure he might feel better if he talks about it
C) Challenge him to a sparring match; maybe a bit of exercise will take his mind off things
D) Ask Dante about girls; he seems pretty popular with the ladies and you kind of have a cluster fuck of ladies to consider. You're kind of dating Jessie, but Anna kissed you at the start of the summer, plus, you and Jessie's sister, Georgia, kind of had a moment.

We should ask Dante what both kids saying no to the Church would mean.
>>

"You know, I'd probably be able to help if I knew more" you mutter as you struggle to right yourself; this feels like one of those situations where sitting up would be far more appropriate than lying down.

Dante rolls his eyes and then rights himself as well, speaking, even as he does so. "Well, the church is...weird. There are a bunch of units and organizations branching off from the main one. There are some that just the supernatural equivalent to infantry, there are some that basically just paramilitary. And there are some so specialized in what they do that unless you have some sort of weird talent for it or you've been trained for decades, you'll never even hear about them let alone be a part of them. The orgnization that my father would like me to join is the paramilitary one. The Executors. Dependent on what they think I'd be best at, they'll send me out to hunt down and deal with some sort of supernatural threat. It could range from magi to vampires to demons"

"Wait, Demons, like, naturally occurring ones are a thing? I thought demons were some sort of thought-crime monster or something"

"No, I think both exist? I'm not too clear on it myself. But from what I remember, the 'thought-crime' ones exist, but so do the 'independent from mankind' ones"

The two of you roll your eyes, your exasperation only matched by your lack of expertise.

"But yeah, that's basically all I know about the church man....let's head outside for a minute; I need to move around a bit" Dante whispers as he gets to his feet, obviously not feeling much better, despite having told you all he knows about the organization that wants to recruit him.

For a moment you feel bad, but stifle it. You want to help him...but you also want to know more.

A) Ask him about Carlos and the gang
B) Ask him what would happen if both he and Melody refused the church
C) Just head outside with him
D) Ask him to stay and watch Anime with you; he needs to relax

Joining Dante as he leaves the room, you ask him "What would happen if Melody and you say no to the church's offer?". Dante glances at you, an odd sort of smile on his face. It looks equally amused and sad. "That isn't an option, Eli. Not even close" his reply comes back a bit muffled as he slips his long-sleeve t-shirt over his head. Slipping out of your hoodie, you unlock the door to the backyard and gesture for Dante to precede you outside.

The two of you begin backing way from one another, Dante stopping just long enough to pick up his hand wraps from off the ground. You have kept yours in your pocket, so you have no need to stop. "What does that even mean? Why wouldn't it be an option?".

"Because" Dante has begun to wrap his hands up just as you have, his identical black handwrappings far more frayed than your own. Dante tends to hit the bags a lot more often than you; though he learns quickly, he seems to have a lot of trouble following any sort of pattern, so he practices his basic exercises more. "If both of us say no, then the church will just choose whichever one it wants more and take them. Maybe just take the both of us"

"How do they know you'll accept if they kidnap you"
"They don't; but if we don't accept, they'll find a way to force us. If I volunteer, then they can focus on making me do what they want and consider my sister a last ditch effort" He has finally finished wrapping his hands and it seems the pair of you have come to a similar conclusion of what you are going to do, as the sun sets upon this day.

Letting loose a ridiculous battle cry of "Wolololololo", Dante charges at you. There's a good fifteen feet of distance between the two of you.

A) Charge right at him yelling "Gugagugaguga"
B) Wait for him to get in close and try for a take-down; make sure he can't use that reach advantage for long
C) Charge at him into a jump-kick; it might be fun
D) Try and activate your adrenaline (Roll 1d100)

If we save Inversion Impulse for enemies then there really is no point.

So you want someone to kill us cause we did something stupid?
>>
We should have Dante introduce us to Geeray Gobomenay :DDDDDDD
>>
>>40076321
Not exactly, if Dante can't handle one Inverted half blood then he won't exactly get any stronger, It also applies to us, we need to eventually deal with Inversion, the sooner we manage to get control over it the better.
>>
>>40076356
Except springing it now out in the open is a bad idea. Without someone like gramps keeping an eye on us we could up dead since we'd probably beat the shit out of each other at minimum.
>>
>>40076385
Then let it happen. Maybe we'd be able to stop halfway. Nobody goes anywhere without taking risks.
>>
>>40076413
Except we have literally no one to cover for us right now. If one of us takes a seriously injury they're dead, if a brinwell shows up after we've kicked the shit out of each other, we're dead. etc. if we're going to do stupid shit have gramps or dante's dad on hand to pick up the pieces and make sure we don't get ganked.
>>
>>40076443
There is no need to play it safe, if they wanted to attack us then they had plenty of opportunities already.
>>
>>40076476
Except maybe they don't want to commit their better units too us, so their waiting for us to slip up so their runed up fake mages can kill us.
>>
>>40076520
They've had almost 2 months, surely we've been in even worse shape than before to be attacked. Whatever they are sending for now aren't exactly what you'd call professionals. Whatever happens will happen, high risk high reward unless you want us to rely on Inversion in front of an enemy that can exploit that to their advantage?

Grinning, you can't help but appreciate Dante's willingness to stick to the bit. Back when the two of you began training together, you would both yell truly ridiculous things whenever Jason Wilson, Dante's father, made you spar. It irritated him and amused the two of you. Eventually, you stopped doing it and focused on fighting; Dante was getting far too good for you to be thinking about jokes while trading blows with him. Dante, it seems, is determined to continue to shout stupid things.

Got to give the guy credit for that.

However, you certainly don't have to give him credit now...instead, you can just give him a bloody nose. So, as Dante launches himself into a superman punch, you duck below it and slam your shoulder into his stomach. Immediately, Dante responds, his legs spreading out so that you can't get a good grip upon them. It's a good move. It would stop any traditional takdown you might use. Thankfully, if there's one thing you've learned, it's that fighting only as a textbook would suggest, is ridiculous. So, instead, you wrap your arms around Dante's waist. Immediately, it seems he understands what you're going for and attempts to wiggle free, alas, all in vain.

Roaring with the effort it takes, you bend at the knees and rocket upwards, thankful for all the squats Mr. Wilson has put you through, as Dante's feet leave the ground and you guide him onto his back. Immediately, the two of you begin to scramble for position, your practice at this giving you only the barest of advantages over Dante's superior physicality.

After about ten seconds of scrambling, muffled cursing and chuckles, you find yourself mounted on Dante, knees on either side of his hip, though your hands remain trapped in his grip as he holds them at his chest.

"Damn! Guess my hatred isn't strong enough" he whispers, affecting a slight shift in tone. As you make the connection as to which anime he is referencing, you frown severely and glare down at him, seriously considering headbutting him right in the face. "Why did I ever tell you I used to like Naruto" you mutter as you struggle to free your hands. Laughing, Dante continues "But today, I will avenge my clan!" and with that, you suddenly feel something clamp down on your next and gag ever so slightly. Then the world flips.

For an instant, disorientation overtakes you and you're forced to shut your eyes and as you struggle to make sense of what is going on. A splint second later, when things are back to normal, you find yourself flat on your back, Dante scrambling to mount you and you struggling to escape.

The fucker threw you with only his legs. Dante had bucked his hips, wrapped his legs at your throat and thrown you onto your back. Shit. His technique might've been crappy as all hell and his follow-up was sloppy to boot, but when it came to random bouts of crazy athleticism and creativity...he had you beat, hands down. Thankfully, Dante's aforementioned follow-up results in you rolling away and scrambling to your feet, so now there's about six feet of space between the two of you and you are circling one another.

This might be a bit more fun than you anticipated.

For an instant, you aren't sure if it's worked but then, an odd sensation of disembodiment hits you

And the world....slows to a crawl.

In the seven and a half weeks since you read that sheet of paper, you have tried at least once a day to try and use your adrenal gland on demand. Unfortunately, you haven't done it once. Though you have done so involuntarily.

But tonight? Tonight, it seems, is your night. Even more so, you feel...oddly calm and yet lively. It might be the adrenaline or it might be the fairly relaxed ambience that you and Dante tend to establish whenever you are left to your own devices, but you feel as if you are in complete control right now. No urges for human flesh, no barely contained fury. This is all Elijah Shoshtak. So, lunging forwards, you feint as if going for a jab to the face, causing Dante to throw a hand out to meet the blow, however, with your increased speed and reaction time, you take full advantage of his raised defences. Slamming your shoulder into his waist once more, you lift him from his feet before he has time to defend himself and soon you are mounting him.

This time, however, you grab his wrist, forcing his left hand, the dominant one, down beside his head and planting your left hand on his throat. For an instant, you give him a taste of the adrenaline-fueled strength you have your disposal causing his eyes to bulge, but then you ease up on the grip. For a moment, it seems like Dante might still resist, but then he grins, rolls his eyes and you know you've won. So, jumping off of him, you help him to his feet and focus on trying to make sense of the world through the slow-motion version your adrenaline is giving you.

After a few seconds, you find yourself back in the saddle and still pretty lively.

"Well, that was surprising; you been using one of those grip things guitarist use?" Dante asks you, massaging what appears to be bruised flesh on his neck.

Wincing you whisper "My bad; I didn't think I was squeezing that hard"

However, Dante waves away the apology and says "Don't worry bout it; we were in the thick of things. I probably would've done a lot wor- Is that your phone?" Dante stops reassuring you long enough to reference a slight ringing noise that can be heard from downstairs, towards the entertainment room.

Cursing, you sprint towards the room, determined to catch the call before your voice mail gets it. When you finally get to your cell, you see that you've actually missed quite a few calls, and most of them seem to have been from Anna.

Anna and Toby.

You haven't seen much of them in the last two months. Busy with their own summer activities, the three of you have only seen each other three times this summer. Smiling, you answer the phone.
"Hey, Ann-"
"Toby's been shot"

Anna voice sounds both horse and oddly....hollow, as if she's downright incapable of putting emotion into her words.

"Tell me where you are Anna. I'll be there as soon as possible and we can talk about this"
"I'm...I'm not sure that's a good idea"

For a moment, you're stunned. How is her not telling you where she is a good idea? OH! She must mean the Brinwell; of course they must've bugged one of your phones. That makes sense.

"You may be right Anna to warn caution, but if the Brinwell want to find us they can. So ju-"
"That's not why!" she cuts you off and you take note that she's starting to sound hysterical.
"Ann-Anna?"
"All of THIS! ALL OF IT! ALL OF THIS IS YOUR FAULT!" She screams over the line. You can hear the door of the entertainment room opening but don't turn to address who you suspect is Dante.
"OUR ENTIRE LIVES ARE OVER!! MONSTERS!" She's started sobbing and her voice is breaking "Our lives would be normal! We wouldn't have to worry about..about wizards and, and wendigo and getting shot, Eli! You destroyed our lives! Just....stay away from us"

And with that, Anna hangs up on you.

"Is everything alright?" you hear Dante ask.

"Toby's been shot. Not sure by who and not sure why. So, no Dante. Not alright" you whisper, stuffing your phone into a pocket and reaching for the hoodie you had discarded. Dante nods once and before you can continue, claps his hand to your shoulder and grins toothily at you.
"Son, say no more. You grab your tiny, lady gun and my man-sized pistol and I'll take care of your toothpick-knife and my keys; time to ride" and with that, he's off, gone before you can even ask him to grab your things for you.

Well, it seems Dante is as determined to help you as you are to help Toby and Anna...you're really going to have to start inviting him to more game nights. Assuming those are still a thing in the future.

After about forty seconds you and Dante are sitting in his car, your pocket filled with your mouse-gun and both of your switch-blades tucked neatly away. One rides on the inside of your shoe, the clip on it's side being used to secure it while the other remains in your sleeve. It would take a fairly perceptive individual to notice that you are armed, which plays quite well to your interests. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Dante, who is backing out of the driveway with his .45 revolver sitting in his lap and a machete lying beside him. Behind you, his ex-hockey stick turned spear remains within arm's reach.

"So, where are we headed?" Dante asks, sounding downright eager.

A) "To the hospital; Toby might be there and it'd be a good idea to check"
B) "Take me to whatever neighbourhood Carlos and his gang hangout"
C) "Toby's House; he and Anna would probably hangout there"

You try. You try to relax and just let it happen but you can't do it. Not the way you did with your adrenaline. It seems the trick to turning on the ability you gained from your grandfather still alludes you. Damn. What is even the point of having an ability like that if you can't use it to figure out how to turn on an ability like it? You really do have shit luck, don't you?

Sighing with frustration you turn to Dante and say

"Alright, I think we need to cover our bases here. Drop me off at the hospital; it's along the way to Toby's house, which is where you'll head. If either of us finds something, he'll call the other and we'll meet up" You explain your plan as Dante shifts into drive and begins the journey. As your friend drives and fiddles with the radio station, you contemplate what Anna said. Could she be right? Could all of the crap that Toby and Anna and their families be going through, could it all be your fault?

No, you decide. You make the choice not to think about that, not at the moment. Assuming your fears come true, you will soon be in a fairly dangerous fight, so thinking that you might not be justified is not an option.

Instead, you hop out of the car just as Dante pulls up in front of the hospital, only managing to close the door at the last possible instant before he begins to pull away. Bursting into the hospital, you spend the next two minutes asking a few questions, but find your inquiries are left unanswered when your phone rings. Accepting the call, you are subjected to the sound of Dante, who sounds excited but also slightly fearful.

"So, good news and bad news. Good news is, you were right. Whatever went down, pretty sure it went down at Toby's house. Bad news, I have no clue what went down because I'm parked about three blocks away from his house and it looks like electricity has been cut for a few blocks in the direction leading towards his house. What's our play?"

Dante informs you of the intersection he has parked at and soon you are off. If there's one thing the last two months have prepared you for, it's jogging. So in only a few minutes you are warmed up and find yourself jogging beside Dante, who, it seems, has taken a lesson from you and hidden his weapons on his person....somehow. However, the pair of you don't make it far into the darkened streets of Toby's neighborhood as Dante as something goes blurring past you and something, wet and meaty sounding impacts the street approximately two dozen feet from Dante and you.

Immediately, the two of you stop and turn and find yourselves being slowly stalked by a small horde of humanoid silhouettes, all of whom shamble towards you, slowly and clumsily. Due to the darkness you're having trouble making out any details, but from what you can determine, each of these individuals is dressed in their own distinct fashion and they appear to be the exact type of people you would see in a neighborhood like this. With the exception that they seem to be suspiciously approaching you and can't quite seem to make their legs work the way they should.

"Dante?"
"Yeah"
"Are you thinking zombies?"
"Not exactly; I was more thinking ghouls or something"
"Are those worse?"
"Arguably"

Glancing at Dante, you don't voice your opinion, you simply do as you see fit. The both of you begin sprinting as fast as your legs can carry. Dante is far faster. Dante is far faster and capable of accelerating far more quickly, so he leaves you behind in his haste to escape, not that you can blame him. However, what is far more alarming is how quickly those shambling individuals throw away their semblance of your typical zombies and have begun to sprint after you. They aren't quite as quick, but they show no interest in slowing down.

A 17 will make the roll

You. Are. Off. That same queer sense of disembodiment hits you and you take off like a jet. With adrenaline pumping through your system and your focus on escaping the strange people chasing you, you soon find yourself catching up to, and, amazingly, actually passing Dante. Unfortunately, your victory is short lived as the sound of glass breaking and a small group of short, but quick moving silhouettes burst out from one of the houses in front of you.

Well, shit.

They're moving far too quickly for you to pass them before they occupy the street in front of you and Dante, who you are only just barely ahead of.

What's the plan? You've still got your adrenaline running, so your options are probably a lot more viable than they would be.

A) Keep running and try to jump them; full on Nightwing mode
B) Try to run them over; full on Marshawn Lynch mode
C) Try to get around them with a juke or something; Full on Eyeshield 21 Mode

These...things reek of blood and move far too quickly to be entirely human; you suspect they might be able to keep up with you. However, those traits mean nothing to you, not right now, anyways. Because you hit these things shoulder first and they might as well be made of smoke. You plow right through them. In fact, you send many of them hurtling away as you throw your arms out, ridding yourself of their very presence. many tumble over one another, but one actually goes flying into the side of a car and bounces onto the hood you hit it so hard. Behind you, you can hear Dante letting loose a single "HAH!" in appreciation. Though the adrenaline in your system makes it a little hard to see the humor in anything, you begin laughing as well, ignoring that odd sensation in your forearm.

You're alive right now. You have your friend at your side and while the darkness may be surrounding you, for once, you feel as if you might be ready for it this time. You've got this, Eli. You've got this. You can beat....whatever this is, you can save Anna and Toby. The odds aren't in your favor, but you can do it.

This neighborhood may be dark, but at least your future looks bright.

How much does adrenaline raise our stat by?
>>
>>40082304
So if we get shot in the ass, will it heal better than before?
>>
>>40082382
Depends on the stat. However, a good rule of thumb to use is that it ADDs to Endurance but multiplies Strength and Agility.

So, let's say, in theory, that we were to convert letters into numbers. Your average person has a physical stat of, say, 20. Two threads ago, when you first used that paper, your stats were as follows.

Strength - 30
Agility - 30
Endurance - 55

With adrenaline, your stats would become

Strength and Agility - 75
Endurance - 70

Gentlemen, we must test this theory.
>>
>>40082513
So at 100 ish that person is equal to a weak heroic spirit?

Did our training increase our base stats any?
>>
>>40082756
More than likely, no. The numbers I've given don't translate directly into real-world strength.

A person with 20 strength would have trouble, but be able to lift their own weight but a person with, say 40 strength would be able to lift their own weight with relative ease. Think a person who has a max benchpress of their own weight and another person who uses their own weight for reps.

And yes, your training has increased your base stats.
