You are Giles, Master Thief, lover extraordinaire, and professional fighter.

Your job has taken another interesting turn, as you’ve now gone from escort to spymaster.

After getting some distance between you and Harthren, you and your companions decided to stop and resupply in a town called Yellowvale.

Of course, resupplying came second. First up was dress shopping.

With that out of the way, you all decided to stay the night in town. Though, all the regular inns were full, so you also decided to go a little… higher class.

The fires of war rise and dance on the whim of a Devil.
Will you extinguish them before they spread, or let them grow into a conflagration to consume the world?

Marcy jumps up and belly-flops onto the very large, very comfy looking bed.

“Maaaaaaaaaan” She says. “This place is nicer than my old room, and that’s saying something”
“I dunno. I’d say your old room is about the same as this” You say, going through the stuff that Marcy and Kuma bought while you were looking for a room.

“This edges in because the bed is big enough to do… THIS!” She snatches Selene, who was walking around the bed, and pulls her into a tickle grab.

The two of them roll around on the bed laughing like maniacs, until Marcy finally releases Selene from her hold and the two of them roll away from each other, completely out of breath.

“Having fun?” You ask.
“Of course!” Marcy says. “I never gWOH-“

Marcy is cut off by Selene pouncing on her for round two, as you and Kuma stand by.

The two of them continue to wrestle on the bed as you finish checking what they bought. There really isn't much here… what the hell took them so long? You had time to check every inn in town in less time than it took for them to buy what’s here.

“So Kuma, what took you guys so long?” You ask.
“What took us so long to what?” She asks.
“What took you guys so long to get supplies?” You ask again.

“Ummm…” She says. “Marcella wanted to get… underwear”
“She did, did she?” You ask.
“Yes” She replies.
“Hey! That was supposed to be a secret!” Marcy says.
“Even from him?” Kuma asks.
“Especially from him!” Marcy replies.
“But he is my master” Kuma says. “I thought you meant to keep it a secret from the general public”
“And why would the general public care if I’m buying underwear?” Marcy asks.

Kuma thinks hard about that question, but Marcy cuts her off as she opens her mouth to answer.
“Don’t answer that” She says. “It was rhetorical, and I don’t think I want to know what you came up with…”

“I’d like to hear it” You say.

Marcy groans.
“Market research” Kuma says.
“What?” Marcy says.
Kuma nods sagely. “If someone wanted to know how best to-“
“Thaaaaat’s enough of that” Marcy says, flopping back down onto the bed next to Selene.

Kuma looks at you.
“I think I agree with her on this one” You say.
Kuma shrugs. “Your loss” She says.

“So why did you need underwear anyway?” You ask
“I’m not wearing bindings anymore… I needed something for… my… y’know” She says.

“Exactly” She says, covering her face with a pillow.

“So what did you never get to do?” You ask.

She puts a hand on Selene’s head. “I never really got to play” She says.
“Really?” You ask.
She nods. “I had to remain professional. That means no fun times” She says.
“That makes sense” You say. “Though Laura probably would’ve been fine with you cutting loose a bit”
“Ugh… don’t even get me started on Laura” She says. “She hasn’t always been the way she is now. When I first started, she was a massive bi-… g… meanie…”

“Nice save” You say.
“Thanks” She replies.
“But Selene is asleep” You say.
“She’s what?” Marcy asks, looking down at the little girl. Sure enough, she’s asleep. “Dang it”
“Consider it good practice. I’d rather not send Selene back to her mother with a new vocabulary” You say.
“I wouldn’t worry about it. You’d have to be pretty creative to come up with curses that she doesn’t already know” She says.

“I’ll keep that in mind” You say.

>>

Probably treated Marcy like she was just the 'Replacement', until Salem came back.
>>
“So what did Laura used to be like?” You ask.
“I may have been exaggerating before” She says. “She was just… She made it pretty obvious when she didn’t like you. She still does”
“I didn’t get that” You say.
“She liked you” She says.

“I figured that” You say.
Marcy rolls her eyes. “What was your first clue?”
“Probably the snuggling. But I digress. What was she like to you?” You ask.
“Mean” She replies. “Like she was annoyed about the fact that I dared to exist. She would ask her parents when her old guardian would be coming back every chance she got.”

“And what would they say?” You ask.
“They’d give mostly non-committal answers” She says. “It wasn’t until Dalen told her that Salem was never coming back that she finally started to mellow out. But that was… 2 years in? Until then she acted like I was a nuisance”

“Well, being abandoned by your first love and left with his lovechild will do that” You say.
“I know that now. I wish I had then” She says. “Dalen gave me the most threatening talk when I first arrived”
“Did he really?” You ask.
“Mmmmmmmhmm. He was all ‘you dare to lay one hand on her you’ll lose it I swear on me mum’. Needless to say, I kept every last one of my appendages to myself” She says.
“Dang. I’m glad I didn’t get that talk” You say.
“Dalen’s cooled off over the years too” She says. “I doubt he’d do that now. Though I wouldn’t put it past him”

“Noted” You say.

The three of you decide to take this out into the main room and let Selene sleep. You turn down the lamps while Marcy tucks her in and pecks her on the forehead. Then you all exit the room.

“You’re really stepping into this whole ‘mother role’, aren’t you?” You ask.
Marcy smiles as she closes the door. “I kinda like it. Selene’s always been a good kid, and even if her mother can’t be around she still deserves some motherly affection” She says.
“Well said” You say.

Marcy smiles at you, arching her back and intertwining her fingers behind her as she turns to go sit down.

“So what do you find fun anyway?” You ask.
“Me?” She asks.
“Yeah” You say.
Marcy plops down onto a chair and frowns. “Never really thought about it” She says, shrugging. “I like sword fighting. Not the ‘fight for your life’ kind of fighting, but the ‘for fun and bragging rights’ kind of fighting”
“I figured that” You say.
“Other than that… I’m not sure” She says. “Being a Guardian is a no-fun kind of job, and I haven’t really had a chance to sort things out”
“I could probably give you a hand with that” You say. “We’ve got two months of laying low, pretending to be a family. I’m sure we could find something you enjoy”

“That’d be nice” She says. “Mind if I ask you the same question?”
“What I find fun?” You ask.
She nods.

Hold up, why's stealing an option? Isn't it only Laura (and Melissa) who knows he a thief?
>>
>>40136588
They're the ones we've told directly and brought up the Master Thieves stuff with, but if the rest of the party hasn't worked out that Giles is/was a thief, or something along those lines, they're blind, deaf, dumb, and mentally handicapped.

Kuma and her brotherhood know some, though I'm not sure exactly how much.
>>
>>40136781
The day Selene is told directly, she's just going to think he's more fucking awesome then she thought already.
>>
“Taking risks, taking things” You say, listing them off on your fingers. “Hanging out with you guys, the attention that a rogue-ish chap like myself gets from the ladies, aaaand-“

Marcy’s face gets a little red at that last one.
“-teasing” You say.
“Sounds like there’s a lot of things that you enjoy” She says.
“Of course” You say. “I’m the kinda guy that doesn’t do things if he doesn’t enjoy them”
“So why have you stuck around this long? There must’ve been stuff along the way that you didn’t like” She asks.

“You missed the last three things then” You say. “I enjoy being around you guys. It’s hard to get attention from the ladies when they aren’t around. And if I left, I’d have to find all new people to tease”
“Your reasoning is shaky” She says. “That’s always bothered me about you, you know?”
“My reasoning?” You ask.
“Yeah. If you really wanted to, you could be in the wind and halfway across the world before anyone even realized you’d left. But you stick around for stuff like teasing?” She asks.

“What can I say? I am a man of simple tastes” You say.
“Also, stealing?” She asks.
“I was wondering when you’d ask about that” You say. “Yes, I have dabbled in thievery from time to time”

More like all the time, but you leave that unspoken.

“I kinda figured that” She says.
“Really?” You ask.
“Yeah. The skills you used to break us out of Analask and later Restoule belonged either to a spy, or a career thief” She says.
“Huh” You say. “Was it that obvious?”
Marcy nods. “So, which one are you?” She asks.

“I never said you were” You say.

“So?” You ask
“You’re going to play dumb, aren’t you?” She asks.

Far too many people have figured this out in the past couple of days.

Well… Laura saw you use something you stole, and Melissa probably always knew. But Marcy suspects you simply because of the skills you possess…

“What makes you so sure that I’m one of them?” You ask.
“You came out of nowhere to the palace and were there on the night the crown was stolen. You have the skills needed to get just about anywhere without being seen. And I have no idea how much this room cost, but it was more than anything a petty thief could afford.” She says.

“Still playing dumb, huh?” She asks.
“You misunderstand” You reply. “I’m not ONE of them”

Marcy blinks a few times. “I think I’m following?” She asks. “But for clarity’s sake, please clarify”
“I am not one of the master thieves. There has never been six master thieves, just one with different faces” You say.

“Doesn’t change the fact that you’ve been lying through your teeth this entire time” She says.
“I have never lied about what I was” You say. “In fact, any time anyone has specifically asked me if I was a master thief, I have told the truth”

“Except when I was telling you how shitty it felt having that trophy stolen you just sat there and said nothing” She says.
“And what was I supposed to do? Whip it out and say ‘by the way, I’m the Riddler and here’s your trophy’? How would you have reacted to that?” You ask.
“Probably violently” She says.
“And there you have it” You say “Reason number one why I keep such a tight lid on this”

You take her to one of the 2 unused bedrooms and lay her down, then get to work on her bandages.
Unintentionally, you catch a glimpse of the underwear she bought. They’re pink, with little frills. Very girly.

You hope she didn’t see that…

“Alright, close your eyes” You say once you’ve finished with her bandages.
Marcy closes her eyes. “Please don’t be something weird…” She says.

You reach into your cloak and try to pull the trophy out…

It’s too big. When you remade the cloak you must’ve made the opening too damn small…

“Shit… come on” You say.
“Something wrong?” She asks.
“Uhhhh…”

We can probably open it a bit with scissors, it'll be easier to mend than tearing it.

Please tell me we're using maximum innuendo.

"Its shaft is too big", "this hole just hasn't had anything its size in it before", etc.

OMG, THIS.
>>
“Uhhhh… Minor difficulties” You say.
“Can I open my eyes?” She asks.
“Not yet. Give me a moment” You say. “Damn thing is too big, it doesn’t look like this hole will be big enough…”

“Just what the hell are you doing?” She asks.
“You’ll see” You say

You pull out a dagger and clip some of the stitching on the edges of the false seam until the hole is big enough to fit the trophy out.

“There!” You say.
“Can I open them now?” She asks.
“No” You say.

She opens them anyway. “Don’t be an… ass…” She trails off as her eyes come onto the trophy.
“It’s yours” You say.
“Wow…” She says, taking it from you. “It was hard to win this one, now I actually get to keep it”
“You did solve the riddle eventually” You say.
“I did” She says, handing you back the trophy.
“Why are you giving it back?” You ask.
“I can’t exactly carry it around” She says. “You’ve held onto it all this time, you might as well keep it a while longer”

“Alright” You say, stowing away.
“But you have to give it back eventually” She says.
“What, like I was going to decide to keep it now?” You say.

She smiles. “So, who’s sleeping where?” She asks.
“I dunno, why?” You ask.
“We have three bedrooms. I figure that Kuma will take one, which means that one of us will have to share with the kid” She says.

“You say that like it’s a bad thing” You say.
“I never said it was a bad thing” She says.

Besides, what if someone tried something? Better to have two people in bed with her that can protect her, then just one.

Besides, Selene would love it.

“We should both stay with Selene” You say.
“I thought you might say that” She says, getting up off the bed and strutting out of the room.

“Not going to argue?” You ask.
“No, why would I? It’s a solid plan. Our job is to keep Selene safe for the next two months, that’ll be easier if we both stick close” She says.

You stare at her for a second.
“What’s wrong?” She asks.
“I dunno. I just thought you’d respond differently to that” You say.
“If by that you mean: take the bait for your teasing, I am much too tired for that” She says. “So I’ll be heading off to bed first. Knock before you come in, I’ll be changing”

“Alright then” You say.

That gives you some time…

“I guess I’ll join you in a bit” You say.
“Just make sure you knock” She says. “I get that my nethers aren’t exactly a secret anymore, but it’s still nice to keep them hidden”
“I get it, I get it” You say.

She heads into the room with Selene, and you walk over to where Kuma is sitting, straight backed and looking very proper.

“Your discussion went well, I see” She says.
“It did” You say. “I take it you heard all that”
“I did” She says.

“I can trust you with that secret, right?” You ask.
“If you ask me to, I will take it to my grave” She says.
“Please do” You say.

“Did you have fun today?” You ask.
“I did” She says. “As strange as it was to be doing such things on the job, I did find it enjoyable”
“Glad to hear it” You say.

Kuma looks uncomfortable for a moment.
“What’s up?” You ask.
“That girl… she was my original mission… correct?” She asks.
“Your original mission… to take her back to the palace?” You ask.
She nods.
“Yes, that is her” You say.

Kuma frowns. “It feels strange to be getting close to her like this” She says.
“How so?” You ask
“Had things gone differently in Catisse, she would have been borne back to the palace by my hands to be killed” She says.
“But things went the way they did in Catisse” You say.
“But-“
“Don’t worry about what could have happened. Just enjoy the present as it comes” You say.
“Yes master” She says.

Tell her to come wake us at some point in the night so that we can take watch and she can go to sleep

She's an assassin with no idea how to act like a normal person. She won't be comfortable with us all being asleep at one time. This is the best compromise.

“Anyhoo, you should pick a room and head to bed” You say.
“Any room?” She asks.

You let out a yawn. “Sure” You say, heading off to your room.

You give the door a quick knock. “It’s me” You say.
“I’m decent” She says.

You open the door and enter to find that Marcy is already dressed in her nightclothes, in bed, and snuggling. “Yo” She says as you enter.
“You look comfy” You say.
“I feel comfy” She says. “Why don’t you come join me?”
“I will, as soon as you stop looking so I can change” You say.
“Gotcha” She says, laying back and closing her eyes.

You change quickly and slip into bed next to Selene, making yourself comfortable before closing your eyes.

After a few minutes, just as you’re on the edge of sleep, the door opens and a figure silently approaches the bed…

Pull Selene on top of us so we can move to the middle of the bed, have Kuma take our previous spot.

Seriously though, get ready to pounce. I don't know how close we keep that cane, but we gotta be ready to get the jump on this. if it's hostile.
>>
“Kuma, is that you?” You ask.
“Y-yes master” She says.
“I see you’ve chosen a room” You say.
“I thought it would be beneficial to our purpose if I slept closer to you and the girl” She says.

You chuckle, then roll over and scoot closer to Selene and Marcy.

“I suppose this bed has room for 4” You say holding the covers up for Kuma to come in.

She settles as close to the edge of the bed as she can, leaving ample room for you, and falls asleep quickly.

At least you think she does, it’s hard to tell with how quiet she’s being…

You smile and wonder what Melissa would think if she found you like this…

That's all for tonight, I hope you guys still enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy writing it!

Next thread will be sometime during the week, as I will not be able to run tomorrow.

I apologize for the lack of a thread this week, I decided to take my running time and put that towards planning future events for this quest based on how things have been going.

As always I'll be sticking around for question/suggestion time!
>>
>>40144666
