[Hello, /tg/. This is an otome game-ish Quest (Well, with less effeminate men, the inclusion of combat and a greater general focus on the male perspective) inspired very much by Unbreakable Machine Doll. As per the setting, you're playing a unique female Automata, one strikingly close to human.

In the previous session, you entered the grand ballroom of House Ortiga, on the second day of the Festival of Masks...On the arm of a long-winded admirer you didn't quite manage to shake off.

The OP image is the closest I could find to the heroine's appearance, which was described as purple-haired and voluptuous.]

Previous Thread: https://archive.moe/tg/thread/40125788

The round of light applause dies away, as plangent music fills the air; and - for the first time of the night - the gawky, unfortunately boring blue-blood falls silent at last. He's been trying to alternately look down your dress and fumble his way to impress you, with a half-coherent monologue on Automata theory, his family's estates, the new Grumgeist prototype they're about to unveil...Master would probably be interested in this, but it's all an incoherent blur.

But now, his eyes more bulbous than ever, he's staring over your shoulder, Adam's apple working. It's as if he doesn't know whether to duck down or to sit up straight, and he settles for hunching over instead.

> (Sweetly) "Is something wrong?"

You say it with just the right amount of innocence, canting your head to affect a look of fascinated concern. He's actually changing color now, as he blanches beneath his mask-

...And a hand comes to rest on the small of your back, fingertips grazing the creamy skin left bare by your gown. The warm contact is measured, a presence that lingers for a savory moment.

"-Is my son boring you?" the voice is low, amused, as you look up - It's the man from before, in his late forties of early fifties, distinguished beard peppered with silver. His brocaded uniform is devoid of insignia, except for the scarlet sash he wears; a sash identical to your escort's - who gulps, audibly, his upper lip sheened with sweat.

"L-Lord father," he manages, his shoulders drawing up. "I was just..."

The older man looks at him - it's a benevolent look, a distantly tolerant one, but he goes quiet so suddenly you hear his jaw 'clack' - before his grey eyes come to rest on you, his hand remaining right where it is.

This look lasts longer, and lingers.

You can't help but notice that, a few tables away, the Academy trio are suddenly very interested in their drinks. Above, the conversation between the masked men - at one of the grand, fluted columns bracing the high-vaulted ceiling - has faded to near-silence.

> [ ] "My, thank you for your intervention. I was afraid I was about to be bored to death."

The corners of his eyes crinkle, as he does not quite smile - but there's a secret, shared amusement in the moment, as your former escort wilts a little more. "Elson," he says, indulgently; and the younger man almost springs up from his chair, as if scalded. He makes a hasty, if almost dignified retreat, with a watery-eyed glance over his shoulder that's relieved and...almost jealous?...at once?

The meaning is clear: Be somewhere else.

> [ ] "I don't see the family resemblance."

"Mmmm." the sound is low, thoughtful - Lord Ortiga's gaze is appraising, as he spares his son's receding form a glance...though his attention returns to you, where it remains. It's a weighing look, a look that takes you in - and from the subtle shift of his grey eyes, becoming just a little warmer, you can tell that it's an appraising one.

"-Truth be told, neither can I," he says. "Too much of his mother in him, I think."

You note that he speaks freely, but the air feels closer, slightly muffled. A privacy field, or some form of warding. You can't help but notice, however, that the exceedingly well-preserved blonde at his table is now looking in your direction, too - she purses her lips, her regal mien slipping for just a moment as her brow furrows.

"My thunder's rather been stolen - But I was glad to be of service," he offers, inclining his head in a slight nod; holding your gaze, for just a moment longer. "Soirees like these are always so tedious; aiding a lady like yourself, I'm afraid, has been the highlight of my day."

This time, he allows himself a smile - it's a confident one, with a kind of secret amusement...as if you're both conspirators. "-If I may be so bold...you're a newcomer to the city, I believe? It's rare for my family to not be recognized - But such is the burden of success, I'm afraid."

Your costume's mask is a veil of black gauze, so fine it hangs like smoke; the sable fan and long weeds of black silk are accessories that came with the ensemble.

"Tell me...How do you find the city, so far?"

[ ] "Enlightening. It's been an...illuminating visit."

This is the first time you've seen a city, let alone a major one...And more, this is the first time you've seen the wide variety of Automata that exist, each one a individual masterwork, limited only by the creator's resources and ingenuity. The ones you were trained on were little more than mannequins, featureless and disintinguished by their jerking, twitching motions. Here, you've seen fantastic shapes like clockwork gryphons, lumbering behemoths sheathed in ultra-dense exoskeletons, soldier automatons that move with a deadly, precise grace...

And none of them like you.

> I'm afraid you've been the highlight of mine as well.
> "I like it a lot better now."

"Indeed? Then we have something in common," Lord Ortiga murmurs, almost to himself - holding your gaze, this time, in a way that lingers long enough to be pleasantly uncomfortable. It's rather different from the way Master looks at you, but...it's intriguing, not unpleasant, which is more than can be said for the attention you're getting. Heads are turning, now - you can feel the redoubled presence of curious and envious looks alike. Clearly, Lord Ortiga is dallying longer at your table than he should be.

> "I'd rather learn more about you."
> Possibly offer your hand, for him to kiss?

His eyebrows rise. "Another happy coincidence," he says, his words lower, now, warmer - Even as you profer one lace-gloved hand. He doesn't kiss it - Instead, he holds it in his own, until you can feel the firm pressure of his fingers against yours...right through your gloves, an unusual sensation.

"It would be a pleasure to enlighten you, my Lady. But first-"

"...Would you care to dance?"

You nod assent - His hand is very warm around yours, as you're lead out onto the ballroom floor. Lit by a thousand suspended flames overhead, it seems as though a jewel shop has exploded into extravagant shards of light and color. The colour comes from the men's uniforms, almost universally black - but adorned with plumes, froggings, epaulettes, aigulettes, and gold-furnished scabbard. There are fur-edged dolmans, silk-lined pelisses, gorgets of sterling silver and pure gold, all lit by the hovering fires overhead, flickering beneath the high-vaulted ceiling.

The women wear paler colours, or darker, as the fancy takes them. The firelight glints from pearls and rubies, diamonds and gold, from exquisite masks and ethereal forms in gauzy dresses that cling to their bodies as they move. A burst of applause announces Lord Ortiga's arrival, but it fades to something half-cohered, almost puzzled, as he raises a hand in an indulgent gesture, both to quiet them, and for the orchestra to strike up a waltz-

The regal woman at the table, watching you very coldly, gives you a gaze of pure poison - one so brief you might almost have imagined it, as Lord Ortiga offers you his arm. The other couples have found their cue, turning lithely to the music; in a few moments, the chatter is back, as if the momentary confusion has never been. You can't help but notice, however, that the other dancers are giving you a wide berth - you're quite sure that no-one wants to risk interrupting you, the crowd parting in Lord Ortiga's wake, drawn closer in his absence, like a magic trick.

A faint murmur passes through the crowd, a curious note markedly more intrigued than before: You can't hear the words, but you know what they're thinking.

> Who is that woman?

The music is winsome, a perfect match for the glittering ball. Not quite sprightly, but dignified, stately - Lord Ortiga's hands coming to rest on the full curve of your hip, your slender arms, sending that palpable heat coursing through your limbs, waking them up...

The only problem is: You've never actually danced before.

[ ] You're built for strength, first and foremost. You'll have to try to keep up.
[ ] You're built for grace, and it shows.
[ ] You learn extraordinarily fast, and observing the others is all it takes.

Nope, this is the best. Learning to leverage your strength, learning martial techniques, learning how to move and how to balance will eventually in the long term make up for our other deficiencies.

Learning can also be applied to other fields, and seems the most versatile overall. Also seems to be the most useful for a stealth fake-human doll.

It takes a glance. Well, more than that, but you've had ample time to study: Master didn't change your body too much - something about upsetting the delicate channels of Azoth - but you learn, and you learn fast. You aren't that much stronger or faster than other Automata...but you have talents of your own. Just watching the other couples, the play of limbs and exquisite, focused poise - that makes sense to you, easily. It never lasts, not for too long, but something like this...

You move as if you've been dancing all your life. Your first steps are measured, demure - finding your footing, finding your poise. But then, as the music swells, you're moving in time with Lord Ortiga; you feel his surprise, then his approval, and that becomes part of the waltz, too. He's actually too stiff, too formal, his moves ingrained by long practice rather than any inherent grace: an act of will and effort, rather than with any real fluidity. There's a tight control, a rigidity - one that focuses on not placing another step wrong, on the exacting precision of the positoning of his arms here, and his feet there-

The music helps, if you ignore the others. Keeping time to it, accounting for the little flaws and pauses that come with even the best-trained orchestra, you find a match for the swell and ebb of the gallery, enough that you can feel the internal rhythm of the other dancers drawn into synch. Lord Ortiga finds that he can do no wrong, with you as his partner; if he's about to make a misstep, you're already ahead, ready to turn it into a seamless transition - the mole of effort that furrows his brow fading, at last, as he allows himself to enjoy the pleasure that comes with the waltz.

(Continued)
>>
>>40143490

His hands move, shifting from your hip to one supple flank. It's a caress, a touch that lingers, as your dress swirls around your legs like smoke, with tempting glimpses of the smooth, flawless skin below. His other hand comes to rest on the small of your back, stroking lightly - only for a moment, as his gaze meets yours through the veil. At some point, you realize that you're the one leading the dance, and he's clearly savoring the sensation.

"Extraordinary," he breathes, and the sound is rich with honest admiration and more than a little fascination. The other dancers have changed partners, but he doesn't seem about to relinquish your arm.

Well, Master told you to "Have fun, but not to make a scene." You're quite sure that he had a lot of things on his mind, and you're also quite sure that you're still within the boundaries of his orders...mostly, at least.

You think.

>>40143554
>>40143613

And the dance continues - a volta of sublime grace, a meeting of minds...with no indication of the amount of effort it takes to make it look this easy. It's actually quite an intriguing challenge, for you to factor in your partner's movements, your spatial senses, your centre of gravity...against where you should be, in time with the music of the waltz, as the orchestra plays on. You become an open channel, half of a superconducting loop completed by Lord Ortiga, the graceful cycle that exists for the sheer delight of it.

Impasse, but an enjoyable one. It's becoming effortless for you, now - your body handling it without the intervention of your mind, as your feet slide and your weight shifts and your shoulders turn in precise curves of their own direction...

>>40143629
>>40143645

Until it becomes only a matter of whim to draw closer, to tilt your head back to meet his gaze and hold it, for one velvety leg to brush against his, never quite tangling, a slight arch of your back accentuating the sultry pressure of your full bosom against his chest. You can feel his breath come a little harder, his pulse rising...and then he begins to respond in kind, his caresses, his holds, becoming less inhibited - but still part of the dance, as his hands slide up and over your smooth flanks with that sensuous whisper of silken material, the music following in time as he draws you back against him.

>>
>>40143981

His breath is warm, scented with exotic spices, against the pale, slender rise of your neck-

And when the music comes to a stop, at last, you realize that you might have lost sense of time just a little. You're almost alone on the dance floor, now...but the applause that comes is uninhibited, louder than ever before, from the gallery above and the diners at their seats. Lord Ortiga blinks, just once - as if surprised by the interruption, before he sketches a stately bow...A bow that, of course, gives rise to cheers.

"My, but we have made quite a scene," he says - his words for your ears only, your arm adriotly captured by his own. He's breathing a little harder, his gaze lingering on your veil. You're quite sure that, at this moment, he wants nothing more than to see what lies beneath.

"-Before we steal the limelight any further, on this day of revelry...Shall we retire upstairs? The view from the Hanging Gardens is quite spectacular. And-" a pause, as if contemplating the wisdom of his words...before he decides to continue - "You must be exhausted after all that exertion. I fear to impose on you further, but I would consider it a personal favor if you would grace me with your presence for a few moments longer."

"It is, as they say, quite a sight."
