You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

Six days ago, the sky turned red and a Thor from another world flattened the city of Dammam.

Sometimes stuff like this just happens, pretty much.

The sky turning red pushed your exploits to the second page. The casualty reports that followed soon after – the scenes of Dammam collapsing into a burning crater, shots of two Thors fighting in the sky overhead – pushed you off the face of map, as far as relevant news is concerned. The Corsairs managed to get a few TV sets out in public, and you huddled together in the snow to watch the devastation unfold. Overhead, an eerie mirror-image of the planet Earth hung like an omen in the sky.

It only lasted an hour. The alien Earth vanished and there was a worldwide Avengers announcement assuring the public that the invading Thor was indeed not ‘ours’, and the event, while tragic, had been brought to a close. Then it happened again merely a day later, and again, just ten hours after that.

That time it stuck. Nothing appeared to wreak havoc on some unfortunate city, and the mirrored Earth was replaced by a great, black void cut in its proportions. There was another announcement, by Cap himself, stating that measures had been taken to ensure the safety of the planet, and that the Avengers – the real ones, and the fifty teams officially endorsed by SHIELD – were proceeding ‘offworld’ to resolve the situation.

So, that happened. And now you’re here, on some rooftop near the edge of Brooklyn, following the sound of sirens.
>>
>(2/2)

A month or two ago, when you were all about keeping your head down, the red sky would probably have meant very little to you, practically speaking. You expected it to make people panicky, and it does, but not quite in the way you expected. After the initial panic, people shifted to a sort of slow boil while they went about their lives, the constant gnawing of the red waiting just under the surface of things. General opinion is that it’ll be okay – the Avengers will fix it. Stuff like this happens sometimes.

It’ll be fine.

That said, with a lot of antsy people literally seeing red all the time all day, things between the major syndicates have… escalated. And with no Avengers teams currently operating in New York, it’s been a bit of a free-for-all for anyone with a bright suit, a set of superpowers, and a will to use them in villainous pursuits.

You leap over to the opposite roof, easily clearing the alley below. The sounds of gunfire snap and shriek through the night.

“It should be just up ahead.” Says the Phantom, from the other end of your phone. “According to the witness reports going up on twitter, there’s around five of them.”

You frown. That’s more of them than you.

“I’ve been in touch with Cage. He and a friend are en route. Sit tight until then.”

“Sure.”

Volunteer work. You never thought you’d be doing volunteer work, but apparently the Agency and most like it have something of a policy regarding times like these. And since Remy straight-up vanished around the time of the third skyline incident, you guys are a little understaffed, so you’ve been running around NY doing lots of very dangerous stuff for no pay.

Nearby, people shout and scream. You hear metal tearing.

>[X] Take a look at the trouble.

Doesn’t sound all that great for anyone involved over there, does it?

You could probably afford to get a little closer. Just to see what’s going on.

Moving silently, you creep your way to the edge of the roof, surveying the scene unfolding below.

Six cop cars idle in various states of disarray throughout the T-section, one of them thoroughly upturned and currently occupying several tables on the window-side of a coffee shop on the corner. The officers that aren’t on the ground and bleeding are toting heavy duty gear – bulletproof vests and rifles and stuff – and have clustered themselves behind three of their vehicles.

The people they’re taking occasional potshots at are arrayed around the scene, blocking off the roads. There’s five of them, like the Phantom said, and they’re all women clad in various levels of clingy spandex and leather. They seem to have some sort of… snake person theme… going on.

They don’t seem to be that bothered about the cops. Mostly, they seem to just be keeping them where they are – occasionally one of them keeps the police pinned down by casting a bolt of weird, arcing green light across the chassis' of the cars they’re huddled behind.

Hmmm. You don’t know who any of these peeps are.

But that’s okay. You have an app for that.
>>
>(2/2)

Pulling out your trusty Moon Phone, you train it on the scene. A slight whir indicates that it’s accessing facial recognition or something, and soon enough you get a bunch of short, succinct notes superimposed across the screen:

>Moniker: Asp
>Identity: Cleo Nefertiti
>BIOELECTRICAL ENERGY PROJECTION
>POROUS TOXIN EMISSION

We should go out of our way to make it as lame as possible, for example having it just be a bunch of second hand tourist apparel (A random big apple T-Shirt or one that says I heart NYC on it or something lame). >and the winner is...

The breath pounding in his lungs, Lucas takes a moment to steady himself, before trotting after you. You guess keeping up with you on foot is pretty difficult.

You can’t help but be a bit amused by him. He’s assigned the task of protecting his identity to a torn, bright red bandana with a set of raggedy eye-holes poked through the fabric, wearing it atop his head in a manner that stirs vague recollections of Saturday mornings and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Of course, you doubt it has any real value, as there is nobody but Lucas in NY with the nerdish gall to wear this in combination with a Superman shirt and a red jacket.

You guess it puts across the right impression. ‘Don’t shoot, I’m the good guy! The goodest guy!’

“Hey.” You nod to him across the rooftop. “Help should be here soon. You got a full tank?”

“Yeah.” He replies, a brief flash of red light arcing between his eyes. “I just haven’t, uh, switched it on yet.”

Good.

You smell fear moving on the wind, and turn your attention to the street below. Cops are looking real nervous now – and for good reason. One of the snake women, the one with the costume that looks like it was ripped off an actual viper – is waving her arms about, directing a swarm of assorted serpents across the road towards them, circling them in.

“Whoa, that doesn’t look good.”

You hear the muscles tightening in Lucas’s legs, his entire rhythm changing. He really would just jump down there.

“Yep.” You reply. “I’m taking a shot. We’ll move a little further down the street after, cool?”

Lucas nods, a big, excited smile on his face. “Cool.”

Slipping your shades down your nose, you focus your vision on the snakeokinetic (is that a word?) redhead apparently going by ‘Princess Python’. A lance of blue-white light streaks out over the street and slams straight into her chest, and she goes down instantly, her teammates freezing up in shocked silence. Immediately, the snakes layering the tarmac lose their uncanny sense of direction, some of stopping in their tracks, some of them even turning on one another.

Apparently, the girl’s suit is Kelvar or something, because she’s not out cold. She drags herself up, pointing up at the building you’re perched upon and shouting something.

You move.

A burst of crackling, bright green light spirals across the roof, twisting like electricity as it snaps to and fro through the air. You and Lucas manage to leap back before it can do you any harm, but you notice the brickwork around you sizzle at its touch. Yikes.

Running at full-pelt, the two of you move to the building on your left. It’s a little tall to jump to, so you land yourself on the fire escape hanging out over the street, slipping out of the visible spectrum before you come into sight. Lucas drops into the alley below, and you pick up the strange, distorted percussion of him absorbing the impact.

You turn your attention to the criminal element.

The snakes are spreading out now, obviously directed to search the street for interlopers.

Hmmm. Snakes find stuff by tasting the air, don’t they?

With a grunt of exertion, you tear free two of the metal bars lining the sides of the platform, the rain-worn steel coming loose with a little application of strength. You remember one major thing about your fight with Mr. Negative – the whole time, you were wishing you had something on hand with hit him with.

Time to stupid.

Your muscles roil under your skin, and you leap down from your perch, glancing a quick blast in the redhead’s direction as you plummet down toward the street below. You catch her around her shoulder, spinning her about – not perfect, but it makes her scream in frustration (and probably pain). Before you hit the ground, you tuck yourself in and slam your feet against the lowermost fire escape platform, shunting your momentum outward. You sail across the street and land safely in the middle of the road, rolling once or twice before you’re back on your feet.

Of course, all that effort has left you very visible.

The snakes converge upon you, but you release an almost reflexive hiss, and they give you a wide berth.

“He’s – he’s there!” Clutching her shoulder and wincing painfully, ‘Princess Python’ jabs a scale-gloved finger in your direction. “My snakes won’t get near him!”

“On it!” The tallest one – the one with the green skin and the huge, spiny tail – charges across the street toward you. “Keep the heat on the pigs!”

Oh. That would be Death Adder.
>>
>(2/2)

Behind her, the girl in white – Asp, apparently – releases a constant, sustained burst of crackling green electricity that lashes at the cops and their barricade.

Right. You can’t keep the snakes away forever, and you can’t keep sniping Python if ‘Death Adder’ (Christ how edgy) gets to grips with you.

Hmmm.

Squinting, you tilt your posture back, and hurl one of the metal poles. It whips through the air, passing straight by Death Adder as the reptilian girl bulldozes her way toward you. You don’t want to put it straight through anyone’s chest, so you adjusted your aim a little, and it ‘skips’ off the hood of an intervening cruiser, changing its angle of approach minutely. Instead of sticking Princess Python to whatever’s behind her, its spin lands one of its blunt lengths straight across her forehead.

Conk. She crumples into unconsciousness without a moment’s swooning.

You focus on the oncoming Death Adder.

In the brief moment you have before Death Adder is upon you, you consider breaking your little improvised weapon up into two even littler weapons, but decide against it. According to the Moon Phone, the lady has things called ‘toxin emitters’ built into her. You think you want to stay as far away as possible from anything that emits toxins.

She moves as a blur. She’s not dumb, this one – she comes at you poised for a swing of those big, nasty claws on the ends of her fingers, but at the last second she skids to a halt and pirouettes, bringing the immense weight of her tail around on your flank. You see it coming, though – something in her body language just speaks to you – and you vault over its sweep. As you pass over her head, you swat her across the side of her head with your weapon.

She grunts in pain, her head jolting slightly to one side. The sound and general feel you get from the impact is about what you’d expect from striking solid stone.

You land, and immediately slap one end of the bar across her back, eliciting yet another angry snarl from the woman.
>>
>>40177628
What is the context of this gif?
>>
>(2/2)

Whirling around, she hops adroitly from offensive to offensive, swiping at you with her claws. She’s fast, and agile, and she’s clearly realized that you’re just as nimble, because most of your attempts to counter result only in superficial slaps across her flanks. Her tail works constantly to offset her weight, allowing her to sway away from your attempts to land a solid hit.

Behind you, the sounds of fighting intensify. You hear Lucas charging from his hiding place. You guess the cavalry is here.

Leaning away from a swipe of her tail, you manage another sharp blow across the side of Death Adder’s face, this time leaving a slight spot of bruising upon her otherwise pristine features. She doesn’t appear to be going down, though…

But why would you want to, really? It won't do much for JJs strength since he is already way over human levels thanks to his mutation. So all it will do is alter appearance (in a way not very convincing if we want to continue passing as a hobo).

Strength can still be improved by working out. This has been confirmed.

As for hobodom: being fit and muscled does not mean he will bulk up stupid amounts. In the time given, JJ would have probably just got muscle toned stage.

JJ also has contortion extrap. Flexibility is not a concern.

>not mediocre

You breathe in, try to mediate the flow of adrenaline through your veins, and focus on being one step ahead of her. Nothing good will come getting pumped full of deadly mutant toxins because you got careless and tried to end this quick. You try to think like Laura does.

Death Adder leaps at you, and you pirouette aside, swatting away her tail as she curls it about to strike you in the midst of your arc. You catch a glimmer of a smile cutting across her face as she spins around to rake at you with her claws, a set of no-doubt venomous fangs flashing eagerly in her mouth. High heartrate, palpable waves of adrenaline in her sweat, minor flexes in her musculature that speak to you of something like hunger – on some level, she’s enjoying this.

Well, you can’t have that. There is no fun allowed in this battle.

She swipes, and you flick your weapon down to intercept, cracking it over her wrist. Concentrating, you release a brief pulse of electricity through the implement. The woman yelps in surprise and pain, recoiling instinctively, and you see your opening open up. You jab the pole straight at her stomach. Her toned abdomen shares more in common with masonry than muscle, but it’s a solid it, and she skids a few feet backward, the air leaving her lungs in a sharp, hoarse gasp.

She recovers quickly, but you keep dancing one step ahead of her, occasionally prodding her with an annoying zap of electricity. Gradually, the enjoyment fades from her features, and is replaced by a mounting frustration that bunches like barbed wire in her physique, ready to uncoil.
>>
>>40178758
Explain how many albino people there are in Marvel that aren't mutants. That's the lynchmob's reasoning.
>>
>(2/2)

Eventually, she’s had enough, and one of your jabs is answered by a cry of anger. She rushes you, swinging her tail around over her head. It scythes through the air, passing an inch from your face, and you know that this is your moment.

You reach deep, prying into your core, and you feel the sun rise in your chest.

Streaks of twisting, almost fiery bioluminescence extend through your flesh, blooming from the center of your chest. For a moment, the smell of lilies and… something else… becomes overpowering, even for you, and you feel your limbs quaking with barely-controlled strength.

Her eyes go wide as you slip in close and slam your weapon straight across her stomach.

She flies off her feet, pitching backwards through the air as through caught in the path of an invisible wrecking ball. You feel bones creak and splinter – both in your arm, and in her chest – and the steel bar in your hand snaps cleanly in half.

That’s a cool thing you can do now.

Death Adder crumples to the ground, gasping and wheezing as she struggles to pick herself up. The glow clings to your skin as you advance on her. She glances up, panic evident in her eyes, and forces up a weak smile.

“Y-know… you have a sort of lizard thing going, and – and we have an opening, so…”

Uh, nope.

You bring the remaining half of your weapon around over the back of her head. She slumps down into unconsciousness.

Yes, and at no point did I say they were. Old-style mutants are just odd humans who probably work in a circus, and no point did I say there were a separate race.

The breath sags in your chest. You can’t help but flinch slightly – your arm stings something mighty after that last blow.

Before you can catch your breath and turn back to the rest of the crisis, you feel a familiar, white-hot warning passing up your spin, and you throw yourself back instinctively. A spear of… of ink? Of liquid shadow?... rises up out of the tarmac below your feet, bristling slicing noiselessly through the air.

It flexes, twisting like a snake, and lashes out, keeping you back.

The woman in the black leather, the one identified as ‘Black Mamba’, rises from the tarmac like a creature straight out of gothic literature, the road seeming to twist and flux around her. She shoots you a very pointed look before her arms close around Death Adder’s unconscious form, and the two of them fade back into the tarmac.

Huh.

Noticing that the gunfire has stopped, you turn around.

The snake chicks are gone. Lucas, looking almost surprised as you are, stands beside one of the cruisers, her outline seething with red light. Cage (his name isn’t T-Shirt Man, apparently) is nearby, nursing a dark scorch upon his shoulder, and his ‘friend’, Iron Fist is… jogging toward the cops.

You guess you won?

You make your way toward Lucas, watching Iron Fist’s dialogue with the cops in the corner of your eye. At first, they don’t seem all that bothered with you – you imagine they’re mostly just thankful to be alive, conscious, and not bitten all over by poisonous snakes.

“Hey, Man of Steel, you alright?”

Lucas turns to you, the glow of his power gradually receding. He’s breathing hard, but you can’t see any signs of real injury on him. He’s probably better for wear than you are, to be honest – a notion supported by the big, almost dreamlike smile on his face.

“That was awesome.” He says, squeezing out between heavy breaths. “I-I just took on the Serpent Squad!”

The what?

Man, y’know, whatever.

Something about his sheer enthusiasm is infectious. You can’t help but smile in return. You guess it was sort of awesome.

“Yeah.”
>>
>(2/2)

The cops are eying you now. Keeping your senses honed on them, you fish out your phone and call the Phantom. She picks up quickly, and it doesn’t take you long to give her the rundown on things. Apparently, from what she can tell on her end, the ‘Serpent Squad’ were hired to keep the cops busy while the Russians hit one of Owlsey’s properties.

Messy, messy.

“According to Cage, Daredevil should be there now.” She pauses, and you hear her slump back slightly in her seat. “I’d say that’s it for you, though. Honestly, I’m sorry for even calling you up on this, it’s just… everyone in the Agency agreed that we’d play by certain rules when we got started, and this is one of them.”

She could’ve mentioned it, thinks the malicious, deep-down part of you.

“…It’s fine.”

But you guess no one really expects the sky to turn read and everything to go insane.

Cops are getting antsy. None of them are making a move, but you can see that the talk between them and Iron Fist is turning impassioned. To their credit, they don’t really look like they WANT to do anything, but…

>[X] Ask if you should help Daredevil.

Yeah, you’d say you’re gonna be making yourself scarce soon.

You motion for Lucas to take your hand – which, after much practice, is nowhere near as uncomfortable as it once was – and the two of you vanish into the background. The cops start and shout, but they don’t make a move. Iron Fist steps back a bit, just out of their sight, and offers an exaggerated, corny-ass salute in your direction.

You guess he knows you’re not a teleporter, then.

“You sure I should be headed home?” You ask the Phantom. “There anything I could do to help Daredevil?”

She considers it an almost-silence, but you can hear her chewing on a strand of hair. She must be alone – she doesn’t do that in person.

“Well, if you insist…” Fingers on keyboard. Tap tap tap. “…The property in question is four blocks from your position, assuming the police haven’t chased you off.”

“Not quite yet.”

“Oh? That’s an improvement.” Yeah, you guess it is. It’s better than bullets right off the bat. “According to Cage, The Owl’s boys are hunkered down in the back of a bar, and they have a hostage. The Russians are blocking off the street outside. Apparently they have a superhuman of some kind.”

You grimace. Two superfights in one night? You think that might be a new record if you throw yourself into this.

“…I’ll see what I can do about the Russians.”

You guess the night isn’t over yet.

“Be careful.” Says the Phantom. “Those men are professionals.”

Yeah, you remember.

“I’ll be fine.”

You say goodbye, drop the line. Sighing, you turn to Lucas.

“Welp, let’s go help Daredevil fight evil Russians.”

He gets a kick out of that. You pretty much thought he would.

That said, though, your last encounter with the Bratva was a considerably harrowing ordeal. You did not like how smooth an operator that that woman with the burns was, not to mention the glass. Control over glass, man. Why would the universe give anyone a superpower like that?

>[X] Call Noriko.

You think a little more about all that glass.

Yeap. You should probably phone Laura here.

There is a moment of expectant silence when she picks up, on both sides, before she ventures forth:

“…John?”

“Hey.”

“Are you alright?” She asks, the sound of your voice seeming to spur her on. “Were you successful?”

“Yep.” You feel a warm glow rising in your chest. It’s nice to be cared about. “Everything’s fine. I’m actually headed a little ways uptown, to assist Daredevil… uh…” Her silence deepens. It’s something in her breath. “…You want to come along? We could use your help. And we could do some stuff afterwards…”

How did you manage to turn “let’s fight the evil Russians” into “let’s go out”? How did you do that?

“…Where should we mee”–

She’s interrupted by the sound of Noriko’s voice. You wait for a moment, before Laura returns to the conversation.

“Noriko also wishes to help.” She says, her voice flat. “She can bring Roberto.”

Oh? Roberto is a guy she got to know on the night before the red. He’s okay, he has sun powers or something.

“Yeah, I guess.”

You agree to meet a block down from the incident.

Shivering, you head out under the red.

Just reminding him.

It's been nearly 2 weeks since the last answer.
>>
>>40181578
We have seen so many mutants that probably are part of x-men or the brotherhood in secret but are not telling, because otherwise there are very few guys left who could be active members.

It's my theory that cuckoos are with X-men at the least.

We're getting Adhesive Touch next thread.

or not

nah

No. They're not either faction.

They're with the Corsairs, Young X-Men or some other group in the Scar.

NatWeap 3 is cooler.

Scorpion shovel tail.

Plus NatWeap 4 comes with bony raptor legs.
>>

no thanks, healing vitae or back wings (depending on how next thread goes down)

claws or subdermal armor

i would prefer healing 4 cause we got fucked up by Mr.Negative

If Noriko, Daredevil or Lucas get shot badly I'm pushing for healing vitae three. Hopefully we gather enough sunlight for a charge, and boost it if necessary

By the by, we are available for the sub dermal upgrades vs heat or vs electricity.

I suggest we pick one after we choose next thread.
>>

Subdermal 3
>>
>>40181917
and if we have no charges we got healing 3 that's all fine and good but it took like 5 hours to heal after we got back to every one

subdermal 3

our wings will become bullet proof. we can save more people from getting hurt

>>40182022
They are better though. Subdermal a shit, Shadowfield or Nat Weap 4 would be far better

>>
>>40182050
That's possible I guess, they might not have the infrastructure to help them so they are trying to get them organized
>>
>>40182039
Subdermal 5 is when it gets bullet proof, I think
>>
>>40182022
>>40182039

I vote for shadow field and sub dermal. All the defenses.

>>40182048
Can't dodge everything, and nat weap 4 will only go so far in comparison. Since ya know, subderm is very good for lack of downside.

>>40182090
It is for the most part.
>>
>>40182070
Got anything to back that claim? I mean it's been heavily implied that Toad at least is with the brotherhood.

I mean he was one of the original members
>>
>>40182090
that's for anti personal weapons like 50cals and what not

3 and 4 are for small arms like 9mm and 45's
>>
>>40182116
>I mean he was one of the original members

Source on that for HMQverse?

And you don't have much to back your claim either.
>>
How about that Phasing 3 guys? That'd be pretty useful.
>>
>>40181887
Healing, Strength, and a few others are capped at 3.

On just about every fucking universe in marvel comics, toad was always part of the brotherhood.

No it's not.
>>
>>40182230
There are two "toads" in this verse.
The highschool brotherhood toad from xmen (evolution?) cartoon
and the ganger we beat the crap out of.
