You are Alex Mauerhan, a somewhat average student. Tall and beginning to pack on muscle for football, you take after your father. Oh yeah, you just found out that your dad is Hercules. You were on a field trip, when a strange deer with gold antlers ran past your group. Oddly, you were the only guy who noticed. You abandoned your group to search for the stag, ultimately finding him in the cafeteria fighting a hellhound. You help fight it off(okay, you were bait but that's not relevant), then escape to a beach in New York. Following the directions of the golden hind, you discover a camp made up of other insane people. Sorry, demigods. They're totally not insane. I'm definitely not saying that because they have superpowers and are threatening my family. send helpYou play a quick game of capture the flag and get claimed by the god Hercules. >inventory>orange camp halfblood shirt>jeans>golden stag tine(the size of your finger)1/2
It's another day at Camp Halfblood, a week after you were claimed by your father. A lots happened since then, a major part was moving to a new cabin. While the big twelve have cabins just for them(despite two being purely ceremonial), the minor gods with few campers share a large cabin separated by gender of the godly parent. You're the first son of Hercules, and as such you bunk in the minor's cabin. Hecate, Iris, and a few of the other...looser gods and goddesses have their own cabins separate from the minor gods'. Until they build a Hercules cabin, you'll be hanging out with legacies and kids of the minor gods. You met a lot of people, seems a lot of Ares campers want to fight a son of Hercules. You've lost all but one of the fights. Dick measuring contest like that come naturally to you and children of Ares, even the chicks. Tonight's another war game, though Chiron hasn't announced what it'll be. As the councilor for the Hercules cabin, you get to decide your schedule. One of the perks of being an only child. You have some free time between archery and Latin, what do you want to do?>go to the Hephaestus cabin, a magic item might be useful>check out the armory, your own weapon would be nice>talk with(insert someone. The two people from capture the flag are amber(Aphrodite) and Marco(ares) and there's Megan(blond chick))>wander around the camp>write in
>>40180213>>go to the Hephaestus cabin, a magic item might be useful
>>40180213>check out the armory, your own weapon would be niceCan we get a cestus? As a son of Heracles we should totally just beat things to death. If not then- >go to the Hephaestus cabin, a magic item might be useful
>>40180213>go to the Hephaestus cabin, a magic item might be usefulCould that magic Iteo be a weapon?
>>40180573Presumably it would be made out of the stag tine... so maybe?
>>40180213>>check out the armory, your own weapon would be nice
You finish your quiver of arrows, most hitting within the target. The daughter of Apollo unstrings the bow, grunting at the large draw weight. The Hephaestus cabin smells permanently smells of smoke and hot metal, with four smokestacks rising along the left wall. A squat, brick building, it looks like a factory from the industrial revolution. It even comes complete with child workers. You ring the doorbell, then watch as the gears spin a hammer which rings a small gong. It takes a while for someone to answer, the sound of the gong blending with hammer striking anvils. When the door finally opens, it's a short Latino guy with...yep. His hair's on fire. He doesn't seem to notice, so it must be something normal in the cabin. "How can I hel...sorry, you reminded me of someone. What's the matter?""I was wondering if you guys could help me with this" you pull the antler from your pocket. He takes it from your hands then calls over a girl. "Lucy, what's up with this?""Looks like a horn Leo. Could be good for something if you want to work on it. Where's you get it?"Leo steps aside, letting her see you through the doorway. The female smith fumbles with the horn as she hands it back to you. "Do you need help making something out of it?">what do you want to make?
Reckon it could be made into some kind of weapon?

>>40181196>Besides, we are a demigod, do we really need cestus when we can use our fists?Yes and no - there's a lot in greco-roman mythology that's stronger than demigods, though our godly parent's legendary strength will help

Looks like gauntlets win, writing.
>>40181633Yeah, basically normal gauntlets for protection, and imperial gold plating or spikes on the knuckles.
>>40181596The Hercules in Percy Jackson is a bigger jerk than in mythology. He's also a whinner.
"You know those boxing gloves they used to wear? Cestuses? Cestii? Something like that. Can you make some of those out of those out of it?""Sure, you want to help? I might need help with the heavy lifting." The short girl asks. You have some extra time, so might as well. Lucy takes the antler, and grabs two ingots of bronze from a rack. You carry an anvil over to where she points, then grab some pliers and hammers. At her direction, you remove a ingot from the flames of a forge, then hold it for her while she it's it. Sparks fly with each strike, the metal deforming under the steel. After it's thin enough and cut into pieces by a small lathe, you are forced to stand still while gouts of flame shoot from around the room for your measurements. The golden antler is cut into pieces, then shaped into eight small pyramids. The celestial bronze plates hiss and spit as they're dipped in oil, blue flame dripping from the magical metal. Steel rings attach the plates to one another, backed with a black leather. Finally, the gold pyramids are slotted into the bronze finger plates. "Not bad wonderboy. Looks like you won't have to worry about papercuts anymore." Lucy hands you the arm-or. You slip them on, moving your hands around to test the maneuverability. When you clap them together, the gloves disappear. Instead, two gold and bronze rings rests on your middle fingers. >gonna write the next scene unless you guys want to do something

>>40182494Wait. Really? That is how my dad actually acts? Hold on though didn't he die at the end?
>>40182494Well, I'll take that as a compliment, then.Aside from the comically incorrect body proportions.
>>40182533More than that, Danny Devito is a mythological figure?
>>40182533I've never met him, he lives in Greece I think. That's what Percy told us at least. >>40182559Just a demigod. Son of Dionysius You sit with the rest of the minor gods' children during dinner, taking in the normal gossip about other campers. It's not mandatory, but seeing how you know them a bit better, its the main table you sit at. "CAMPERS, AFTER DINNER, SHALL BE THE ANNUAL TREASURE HUNT. IN THE WOODS HAVE BEEN STOCKED WITH MONSTERS AND FIFTEEN PACKAGES WITH VARIOUS ITEMS. FORM TEAMS OF THREE FOR THE HUNT." Chiron announces as you push the food into the fire, the smell an intoxicating mix of all the best smells in the world. >>40182862I meant in the books. But yeah, in the myths he's not bad either, though he's unlikely to intervene, for better or worse
I remembered where I had heard of the golden deer before.THE ELAPHOS KERYNITIS (or Cerynitian Hind) was a golden-horned deer sacred to the goddess Artemis. Some say the deer was a gift from the Nymph Taygete and was one of five, the other four drawing the chariot of the goddess.Herakles was sent to fetch it as one of his twelve labours. After chasing the swift animal for a full year he finally captured it on Mount Artemision in Arkadia. When the goddess Artemis complained at the treatment of her animal, whose horn the hero had broken off in the struggle, he persuaded her to let him borrow it for the completion of his Labour.
>>40183159So that's how it recognized us smelled our dad in Us.
>>40183041>he's unlikely to intervene, for better or worseNeutrality is just about as nice as these guys got in the myths. I mean, as far as I know all the other gods cheat on their spouses, punish people for things out of their control, and constantly murder/rape/curse everything they can get their hands on.I haven't read the books this quest is based on, but I've always been a fan of mythology. They any good?
>>40183211The books aren't bad.
>>40183211I've read the first 5 books. They're entertaining and keep close to the myths.
>>40183211>>40183333But don't expect literary genius either. They are fun kids books for learning about greek myths. As someone who as teaching a class on greek mythology when I read them. They frequently made mistakes that pissed me off a little bit. Hurt my enjoyment, but this quest still drew me in, so I liked something well enough.
>>40183211Yeah, though occasionally they'd bless you or reward you richly. They're pretty good - they're at a fairly low reading level, so there's nothing particularly taxing or complex about them, but the stories are sound and the integration of myth and modern is pretty good. Also they're pretty funny
"Hey Marco! You got a team yet?" You shout over to the Ares/Mars(Greek and roman children of the same god sit bunk together. You think in terms of Greek gods though, as dad was Greek when he was with your mom)."Nah, you wanna team up?""Sure, you want anyone else?""Not a Demeter kid. They're cun-"Marco's cut off, a ringing smack passing through the crowd. His councilor reminds him that there's little kids around. After dinner, Marco runs off to his cabin, returning with a number of other weapons. Where did he get hand grenades? Lucy walks over to your pair, which is standing around looking for a third. "You guys need another guy?"You shoot a glance to Marco, then nod. Once every camper's teamed up, weapons and armor are laid out on the tables once more. Lucy grabs a strange crossbow, made of what looks like bone and a mix of metals with a lever on the bottom. You grab a sword and smaller round shield than what you had for capture the flag. Everyone in camp is kitted out in an incredibly varied array of weapons, excluding a few children of Apollo who'll be acting as medics. They have recurve bows, and are supernaturally accurate with them. "LET THE HUNT BEGIN!">where do you run?>north>south>east>west(This will choose what monster chart I use for the encounters)>>40183211Avoid the movies like the plague. I loved them from the beginning(the first one came out ten years ago, feel old yet?) and he finished the series a year ago. It's written for 14 year olds, or about that. The books start when the MC is 12 I think
>>40183399Frequent mistakes? Other than excluding the rape, were there really that many? The author taught history, I thought it was fairly spot-on, save maybe a few places where you get multiple versions of the same myth?Mind you, I'm sure they would have stuck out to an expert
>>40183480The Perseus myth makes me sperg out a little, cause Bulfinch fucked it up, and everyone and their mother makes his mistakes after him. A few naming inconsistencies (swapping greek and roman), which I could overlook but he included roman as a separate thing so it sticks a little more. I would have to read over it again for more examples.
>>40183538I'd say the way he did the roman/greek thing let it work, as the camps were a very new thing - they only happen after WWII (though Roman demigods seem to have had at least a loose organisation thing with Luna since the Republic)What's messed up with the Perseus myth?
>>40183654It is very commonly blended with the myth of Bellerophon, which, all credit he did get mentioned in the books, I was happy about that. Here's the issue. In the common Perseus myth, Perseus rides the Pegasus, who was born springing from the neck of Medusa, who is killed by Perseus, after he shows up on the Pegasus. In the correct myth he gets Hermes' sandals and flies there that way.In myths where he kills Keto/Cetus/Sea Monster, that is also sometimes part of Bellerophon's myth but that doesn't cause the same continuity problems and actually was part of Perseus' myth in certain parts of Greece.
...wait wouldn't our dad technically be Heracles? wasn't Hercules his roman name?
>>40183776Pretty sure he doesn't particularly like Hera, and "Heracles" means "Glory of Hera", so...
>>40183874i suppose the myths kinda didnt change when he was adapted, so he probably avoided the whole split personality rampancy thing, I could see him just deciding to keep the roman name.
>>40183906Especially since by canon the power of your myth changes you, and thats how everyone in the west knows him. Roman name, Greek story.
>>40183906>>40183776>>40183874Near literaly, he says "I hate Hera, so I didn't complain when the Roman changed my name"It's probably the only thing he didn't whine about
>>40183906It's how hes referred to in the books, there's no explanation for it. My headcanon is that he'd rather not be called glory to Hera for eternity"I know a good place to track monsters from. Follow me!" Marco runs to the north, vaulting over tables. You and Lucy run after him, the crowd of halfbloods scattering into the trees. Marco slows a bit to let you catch up, then leads the way through the forest. His chased steel cuirass rings when a branch hits it. Following in his wake, you drive a path through the forest veering farther and farther away from other campers. Eventually, you come to a stop in a small clearing, slightly out of breath"Okay, now we just need to hope you stink enough. I'll ask around if there's any monsters near by. I saw Percy run to the west, so we should be good." Marco says, then pulls a bag from his backpack. "Hey Marco, whatcha doin?" You ask, as he bows to a blueberry bush. He places the bag at the bush's base. "Shut up Alex, I'm working." He then mumbles something to the bush, and pours...dirt out of it. A green tinged face pops through the leaves of the bush, then the rest of the girl's body rises from it. You look away quickly, along with the rest of your party. The berry girl looks down, blushes green, then pulls a top and shorts from the bush. "You humans are weirdos." The dryad holds up the bag of dirt from the ground and start grabbing handfuls like its popcorn. "There was a drakon a while ago. I'd say a year. Wait, no. It was a hour. Somewhere between those two. You turn around quickly, pulling your sword out and swinging your shield to your arm. You click your two rings together, leather and metal materializing on your hands and forearms. Lucy and Marco run to your side, pulling their weapons out. Two *TWANG*s come from your side, and the bronze tipped bolts rocket toward the grey drakon and stick in its scales. Lucy pumps the lever on her crossbow, ratcheting back the strings with four movements. You split off from the group, Marco running parallel to you. The giant snake turns it's couch-sized head back and forth, watching the two demigods running towards it. You close in on it, as time seems to slow and it strikes at you. The massive head rockets at you, the fangs glinting in the sunset. You catch it in the face with your shield, the smooth scales sliding past the bronze. You stab at it with literally Herculean strength, the short bronze sword cracking and slipping into the monster's skull. The speed of the monster's head rips the blade from your grasp, making you wonder on the practicality of melee weapons against giant animals. Marco jumps on the back of the giant snake, pulling two golden sai from his belt. He sinks them into the monster's armor, using them like handles as the monster bucks. Armed with a shield and cestus, your sword is stuck inside of the monster's face above its nostril. The monster rears up again, taking a pair of bolts to the...chest? Damn it, your internal monologue is going to be going on about that for the rest of the night. Anyway, you clench your open hand into a fist. The golden pyramids shift from atop your hand to to your knuckles. A cloud of dust and leaves are thrown up as the snake slams it's head into the ground. Marco rolls off the monster, leaving his sai in its neck."Grenade's live. Five seconds," Marco shouts over the sound of battle. You duck behind your shield, then a massive explosion blows a chunk out of the monster's body. It writhes in pain, the celestial bronze burning like napalm in the monster's flesh. You charge at the wounded monster, shield facing the monster's jawYou leap at it's face, your shield slipping off as you grab your sword. With the hilt in your hand, you swing on top of the monster's head. It's slit pupils turn upwards, cross eyed as it looks at you. Questioning what to do next, you punch it in the eyes. Clear fluid bursts from its punctured eyes, coating you. That's not gonna come out easily. Blinded, the monster rolls in a desperate attempt to remove you. Thanks to it being big enough to eat a cow whole and slippery as Hades, you are forced to dismount. Lucy puts another set of bolts into the monster, straight down it's left nostril. >>40185645that one sword art online quest? You write up battles similar to that one guy.
You roll with the fall, your muscle cuirass hampering it slightly. The monster, hampered by its missing flesh, strikes out at the nearest demigod. The drakon aims at Lucy, it's mouth opening in slow motion. The pavise she's been hiding behind while reloading snaps almost in half when the monster's jaw snaps around it. With it, goes the double shot crossbow she wields. Lucy screams in pain, falling backwards as she clutches her hand. Marco throws something at the monster, pulling weapons from every part of his body. Seriously, the guy is a walking armory. Whatever it was, it gets the monster's attention. Marco's eyes go wide as it lunges at him, and he takes off into the woods. Apparently he takes after his father. You rush at the monster as it slams into two trees, then jump up onto its neck. One of Marco's sai remains in the monster's body, which you pull out. With it, you crawl up its body to your sword. You pull that out as well, but get knocked from the monster's head when it rears up. You somersault off it, your hands clenched around the hilts of the weapons. Lucy has another shield set up, hiding behind it with a Baggie in her unharmed hand. Were the hell is Marco?>drakon HP 42%>status: BLINDED>team HP 78%Man that was a long wait, sorry. >>40185659Nope. Left without a partner(thanks Marco) and the other injured, you do the only logical thing to do. You wait for the monster to fall to the ground once more, before stabbing the sai into it's scales. Leaving that in it's side, you stab down into it's rib cage. Gold dust falls from the monster's wound when you sweep the blade to the side, the bronze blade catching momentarily in thin bone before it breaks in two. "MARCO YOU PANSY! GET BACK HERE OR A SWEAR TO THE GODS THAT ILL KILL YOU AFTER THIS THING."You withdraw the sword from the snake, stabbing it again behind the neck. Something inside the monster snake is cut when you pull it out, blood spraying like a fire hose from the wound. You slide down the monster's arced back, the scales catching slightly on your jeans. You stab the drakon near the end of it's tail, the bronze blade sinking into the ground like an anchor. A javelin shoots from the trees, spearing the serpent through the neck. "THAT WAS RUDE ALEX! I WAS LOOKING FOR MY SPEAR!" Marco rushes through the treeline, a double headed axe held over his head. He throws it up to you, then draws a curved sword from a sheath on his back. He has at least six swords that you can see. You swing overhead at the monster's skull, the bronze head sinking easily through bone and scale. Beneath you, scales crumble away into yellow dust. All that remains in a pile of dust is a pair of massive fangs, a piece of Lucy's crossbow, and a black cube about the size of a shoe box. >THE DRAKON HAS BEEN DEFEATED!Lucy holds her hand gingerly, the flesh still lobster red. She slides the crossbow into a backpack, along with the fangs. Marco puts the cube in his pack, grinning. >want to do/say something?

>>40186331"Maybe some warning next time man?""How's the hand Lucy?"Right, that was a (surprisingly) big and dangerous monster - if things are as they should be we should be near a cache of loot (which we WILL get first dibs of)
>>40186331Oh, come now, I put that much effort in, and you just leave me the dust?
>>40186354"Depends on what we got. No stable duties hopefully. We could get anything from extra dessert to better shower orders" You have to admit, that would be nice. It rotates daily, but anyone who isn't before the Aphrodite cabin gets cold showers. >>40186358"Yeah, I'm fine. Grey drakons aren't poisonous." >>40186379"Sorry. It takes a little while setting up some of my stuff," Marco says, pulling the javelin into six inch pieces and sliding them into a quiver. >>40186407"You don't have a backpack, do you really want to carry it around for the rest of the night?" Marco swings his backpack around, unzipping it to reveal that it's divided into a number of pouches for weapons. And a 3DS. "Anyway, I need the fangs to repair my bow. I'll make something for you if you want. " Lucy starts picking up pieces of the broken bow, gears and a broken lever scattered on the ground. "You can have the next one if you want"
>>40186681ask him what games he has for the 3ds.

>>40186975Well.That and ADHD.We are a demigod.

>>40186721>>40186722"Pokemon X, Super Smash Bros, Monster Hunter, and two Zelda games"With a freshly harvested pair of fangs, you set off into the forest. The scantily clad dryad waving goodbye, the forest swallows you up again. Lucy's watch says its a quarter till 9, the game ends at 10. You're not sure exactly how many more packages are still attached to monsters, but noone's gonna stop you from getting some weird magic item. The sounds of combat reach you through the trees, pushing everyone into a run. Sadly, as you break into the combat zone, come cries of happiness. The three demigods dust off their clothes, then lift the black box from the dust. Damnit. After greeting the other team, you set off in opposite directions. The minutes tick away as you hike in through the woods, irritatingly quickly. A tree falls, followed by two more. You draw your sword, then rush toward the fallen trees. The monsters have created a small clearing, lined with fallen trees. What the hell? These monsters were not covered in class. Three humanoid monsters, each 8 feet tall at the shoulder. Which is the highest point in their bodies. They look like that one Pokemon, hitmonchan/lee. One of those. Their faces are in their torso. Eyes where their nipples should be. Mouths stretch across their thick cores, all three monsters are built like fridges. >battle plan?>roll 1d100

"Hey Lucy? You got any backups?" Marco asks, then pulls two swords from his back"Sorry, just my crossbow""What you best with?""Short sword""K" Marco hands over a gladius, then grabs his swords off the ground. Armed, you burst through the clearing with a battle cry. The three headless monsters pause in their tree-knocking-over, then morosely pick up crude stone weapons. They show a odd intelligence for monsters, especially those without brains. Why they love pushing over trees, you don't really want to ask. All of the monsters have a reach advantage over your team, excluding Marco purely because he has every weapon in the world hidden on his person. Right now, his weird hooked swords have about the same reach as the flint knives. You hold back a bit, feigning strikes to herd one away from his group. Lucy slips behind him(or her, it's like a ken doll down there), her gladius held low. You rush it again, the stone blade cracking and skittering off your shield. The monster stumbles backwards, then falls to one knee when Lucy cuts out it's knee. A guttural cry comes from it's core, echoed by the other two monsters. The unoccupied monster turns away from Marco, lumbering to its fallen brother. Marco slices at its back, before turning back to his opponent. With fluid grace, he spins past the monster while slicing two lines into side with his hand guards. You turn back to the hamstringed monster, where Lucy is carving into its skin while dodging wild strikes. The other monster pushes aside fallen trees in its quest to save its brother. >>40188575Then my cat is a monster you got a point.

Leaving the fallen monster to Lucy, you leap over two trees to get close to a monster. The wandering one leaves himself open when he steps over a tree, snapping branches as he passes through the crown. You wait for him to be stuck in the thickest part, then throw your shield at it. The heavy metal and wood disc flies through the air like a frisbee, the armstrap whipping around. It strikes the monster across the chest, the strap's buckle smacking it in the eye. You rush in as it falls over, stabbing downwards. A wild strike of the monster's stone knife cuts into your thigh, a flap of skin and muscle hanging. Nothing's messed up to a high degree, but the muscle isn't working as well as normal. You stab downwards, grounding the blade between the monster's shoulders/head. Monster biology is weird. It begins to dissolve, your blade shifting from its back to lodged in the tree trunk. You lean on the blade, shifting the weight off your leg. Lucy's killed her monster just now, and wraps a bandana around a minor cut on her sword arm. Marco is still fighting, though his monster is cut in a number of places. Most seem to be surface cuts, from the sharpened outer curve of his swords. As you watch, Marco jumps over the monster, does a frontflip, and stabs the pommel blades into the monster's back as he falls. The headless monster dissolves into gold dust as Marco walks away from its body. >ACEPHALOS(3) DEFEATED!You kick around the dust of your monster, finding nothing but twigs. Lucy grabs a black box from her dust, then places it in her pack with the fangs and broken crossbow. >CONGRADULATIONS! YOU LEVELED UP!
