You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After stopping by Arniel's shop to chat and pick up some supplies, you sent Erika to fetch the rest of the honor guard from your house at the other side of town while you went to the tavern to drink with your old friend Reinhardt. Thinking you'd celebrate with something stronger than usual, both of you ordered the strongest drink the tavern served, Black Mountain Whiskey, and talked about what happened since you left Morsland. Reinhardt urged you to get rid of Galadriel for your own safety, and did not take it well when he learned you had actually become the new official champion. You both argued for a while, until finally Reinhardt gave up, and decided that if he couldn't convince you to get rid of the sword, he would join you and watch your back as best he could.

Also you got black-out drunk and started hallucinating. Apparently Black Mountain whiskey is some crazy shit, made even crazier when you have a 2000 year old angel in the back of your head.

Your headache makes you wince when you exit your room and find the rest of your honor guard already up and about. The smell of breakfast makes your stomach grumble, and you see that Roland is handing plates and forks to everyone. When he notices that you're now up and about, he hands you one as well.

"You might want some cold water to go with your food as well. I'll go grab some." He says, returning to the kitchen to fetch a glass.

"Thanks." You mutter, taking a seat on the living room floor with the rest of the honor guard. You start eating breakfast slowly, it's not as good as Gunther's cooking, but it's good regardless.

"What got into you yesterday?" Erika asks from across the room. "By the time we got there, you were already completely drunk."

"Sorry, thought I'd celebrate a little since we survived the battle the other day. Really starting to regret it now though."

'I told you to slow down.' Galadriel scolds you. It sounds like she's still huffed about what happened.

"Well, I'm sure you were having fun at the time, at least until you started hallucinating." Roland comments, returning with a glass of cold water for you. "Also, someone from the castle stopped by while you were asleep. They left you some stuff for helping them with that pickpocket yesterday."

You look where Roland points and find a bag of gold sitting on one of the few tables that weren't destroyed during the invasion. Next to that you see a fancy new helm bearing an eagle motif. You'd guess the eagle helm is that bonus the Lord-Governor promised for not embarrassing his brother any further.

You take the glass of cold water and sip it slowly, hoping it will help your hangover a little. "So yeah Erika, that was a great example of what NOT to do when drinking. I hope you were taking notes."

"Wait, if you knew that was a bad thing to do, then why did you do it in the first place?" Erika asks, confused.

"I was with Reinhardt so I didn't think things through as much as I should have. Speaking of which, Reinhardt agreed to join us at the Watchtower, so he'll be coming with us when we head back."

"Wait, you actually managed to convince him?"

"Well, more like he decided for himself after he found out I'm not just a temporary Champion anymore. We had a talk, and he said he was coming with us. After that we both got drunk, and you know the rest of the story."

"So you and your friend had a heart-to-heart and then got drunk together. That would be touching, if you didn't start freaking out when we got there." Roland jokes.

"Yeah, apparently booze and mind-linked angels don't mix well."

"Doesn't help that it was Black Mountain whiskey." Justine adds.

"Yeah." You say aloud. 'Speaking of which, sorry about what happened yesterday.' You add mentally to Galadriel.

'It is fine, just don't do it again.' Galadriel complains.

'Believe me, I won't. Are you alright though? I don't know what booze does to angels but most mortals would have a bad headache at the least after that.'

'My head aches and my wings feel sore, but it is nothing to be concerned over. Just listen next time I ask you to stop.'

'I will, sorry.'
>>
>>40184316
----------
Breakfast is fairly peaceful after that. The others are kind enough to keep it down while you eat, and after a while you think your headache starts to get better. After everything that happened yesterday, you'd have thought you would be in bed the rest of the day, but you feel surprisingly good all things considered. After a while you pick up the bag of gold sitting on the table and count 40 gold pieces inside, more than you would have expected for catching a pickpocket.

>41 Gold remaining.

Adding the gold to your coinpurse and setting the helm aside for now, you think about what you should do now.

>Find dad, elaborate on enchanting process, and see if he's got his own ideas on how to apply it, or if he wants to try it.
Because at this point, getting the family able to protect itself may be prudent.
>>
>>40184364
we cant do that for like a few reasons one we need to know the enchantment for the weapon and magic to bind the enchantment to it all of which Sieg cant teach.

but we can inform him about the smith at the tower to send our sister to learn from.
>>

the process is more important than the specifics. What dad can give to enchantment with a different perspective and new ideas may be better than what enchantment can give to dad.

enchanting that helmet with true-seeing or some shit is probably pretty prudent, but we should wait until we get to the tower for that.

let's meditate and mind-kill some demons.

You shift Galadriel into her dagger form and grab your backpack. "I'm going to check on Reinhardt real quick, make sure he's alright." You inform the others.

"I'll go with you then." Roland says, standing up and leaving his plate on the nearest counter. "I had nothing else to do today anyways."

"Alright then, let's go."

----------
Upon arriving at Reinhardt's house, you knock three times on his front door. When you receive no response, you knock again. Still nothing.

"Maybe he's just not here?" Roland speculates.

"Maybe, but I don't know where he would go this early."

You knock one last time on his front door, thinking if he still doesn't answer you'll just come back later and hope he's home. There's no need for that though, as Reinhardt's bedroom window opens to your right and you see Reinhardt pop his head out.

"Whoever you are, I don't want any." He says, sounding quite groggy and very grumpy.

"Reinhardt, it's me. I just came to make sure you were alright."

Reinhardt blinks and clears his eyes. "Sieg? How the Void are you so chipper after last night?"

"No idea. Why, are you feeling sick?"

"Oh no, I feel juuust fine Sieg." Reinhardt brings his head back inside the window and you hear him start puking, hopefully not onto his floor. He pokes his head back out the window after a moment. "Like I said, never better."

"So it seems. Here, hold still, maybe I can help." You tell him, before muttering the incantation for Heal. The spell causes soothing yellow light to envelop your friend, before slowly dissipating. However, upon casting the spell you feel a jolt of pain come from your head, making you wince.

"Well I'll be damned, my head doesn't feel like it'll explode anymore." Reinhardt says, feeling his head.

"Well that's good, because now my head's starting to hurt again." You complain, holding your head as your headache returns with a vengeance for a while before starting to go away once again.

"'Starting to?'" Reinhardt asks, still groaning a little. Seems the spell did a lot, but didn't quite cure his hangover completely.

"Yeah, it's weird. This morning all I had was a bad headache, but after a while even that went away. I cast that spell just now and my head started pounding again, but I think I'm good now."

"Well gee, aren't you lucky." Reinhardt complains. "Wish I had whatever magic bullshit you have to stop a hangover."

"I don't have any magic 'bullshit' for a hangover besides what I just used Reinhardt."

"That's strange. Maybe it's because you have Galadriel?" Roland offers.

'Is that why?' You ask Galadriel mentally.

'It is possible, yes. Our link may be responsible for your quick recovery, though it seems spellcasting will still be difficult for you until you've fully recovered.'

"Well great, that's wonderful, the cursed sword is good for hangovers. Some of us still have to deal with them the old fashioned way though, so if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go back to doing nothing, thanks." Before anything else can be said, Reinhardt closes the window and leaves the two of you alone outside his house.

"Your friends seems to be a little rude." Roland says as you both leave.

"He's always like that when he's hungover, don't let it bother you."

Well, now you know Reinhardt is fine for the most part. With that out of the way, what should you do now?

"So, where to now then?" Roland asks.

"Let's head to the church, I haven't seen Daniel since the invasion."

"Sounds like a plan, lead the way."

----------
The church has obviously taken some damage from the invasion, but like the tavern it seems all the damage has already been patched up. Not surprising, considering all the people you find staying here. After the battle, the crusaders that stayed behind to help repair the city and train the militia needed a place to stay, so the church has been offering them shelter. There others here too, people who lost their houses were also given shelter here. As a result, the inside of the church is filled with people and the floor is lined with sleeping matts. Though overcrowded, at least everyone has a place to stay until they can get back on their feet, and in exchange the people staying here helped repair the church.

You ask one of the crusaders staying here where you can find Daniel, and he points you in the right direction. You find Daniel sitting in one of the pews, reading from a small book. He looks up from the book when he hears you approach and smiles.

"Ah, there you are. I was wondering when you would stop by."

"Sorry I didn't stop by sooner, I've been pretty busy."

"I would imagine so, it seems all of us are busy with something here, be it repairing the city or something else. Here, have a seat, what brings you here?"

"Just thought we'd stop by and chat, see how you were doing."

"Is that so? Well thank you very much for doing so. Was there something specific you wanted to discuss?"

>"What's going to happen here now?"

"Honestly, I've got a lot on my mind right now, like what's going to happen to Morsland now?"

"Well first, we're going to help repair the city and teach these people how to defend themselves in case there's another attack. After that, I believe the Knight-Captain will recall most of the crusaders here, though I imagine he will leave at least one squad behind to continue training the militia and advise the city's leaders should they encounter more demons."

"How long do you think that will take?"

"Who knows? I would say at least a month, though I will be returning to the tower much sooner."

"How soon?"

"I will be returning tomorrow like you and the others. There's not much for me to do here anyways, and as one of the tower's instructors I'm going to be needed there once we receive new recruits."

"That reminds me, there's two other people we'll be bringing to the watchtower with us. The first is my friend Reinhardt, you might remember him. The second is a pickpocket who's taking the Rite of Conscription."

"A pickpocket?"

"He's able to use magic without a foci, so he could be useful. Though again, he is a pickpocket, so I'd keep an eye on him. I figured I should warn you since you'll probably be the one teaching him magic."

"I see. That it quite surprising, but if he has been casting spells with neither a teacher nor a foci, then I am interested in meeting this person. I thank you for warning me in advance though, I will be sure to keep a close eye on him. Is there anything else I should know before we leave for the tower tomorrow?"

"Nothing relating to the pickpocket, no. There is something else I wanted to tell you though, but I'd rather not do it here where everyone can hear."

"Ah, I see. In that case, follow me, I will find us a place where we can talk in private."
>>
>>40186732
The old priest stands up from the pews and leads you away from the main chapel, into an adjacent hallway and stopping in front of a door near the end of the hallway.

"Roland, would you be so kind as to wait here and make sure no one tries to eavesdrop?"

"Sure thing Daniel." Roland replies, waiting outside the door while you and Daniel head inside.

The room in question turns out to be a storage room, filled with spare pews and other assorted things. No one else is here, so the two of you are able to speak privately.

"Now then, what is it you wanted to tell me Siegfried?"

"Well, I spoke to Galadriel about what happens now that we're heading for a crusade."

"Did you now? And what conclusion did the two of you come to?"

"Well, that's what I wanted to tell you. I thought you might like to know that as of yesterday, I'm not just a temporary Champion anymore."

The old priest is shocked by this news, but not in a bad way. His smile brightens at this news. "Is that so? Wonderful! I was beginning to wonder what we should do if Galadriel did not choose a permanent Champion soon. But are you sure about this Siegfried? You didn't seem very eager when you first picked up Galadriel's sword."

"I'm sure. I'm in too deep by now anyways, might as well see it through."

"Very well then, that is good to hear. I will keep this news a secret for now then, though I doubt it can be kept secret for much longer."
>>
>>40186756
"Thanks. that actually leads me to the other thing I wanted to ask you. What do you think Laurentius will want me to do once we get back to the castle? He said we had a lot to do, but he didn't say what."

Daniel thinks. "Hm...Well, earlier I would have guessed that he would either double his efforts to find a permanent Champion for Galadriel, or try to push you to accept the position yourself. Seeing as you've already done that though, I imagine he will want to start your training as the permanent Champion immediately. After that, tradition has it that the Champion visits all three kingdoms to attain their aid in the Crusade."

"More training? I thought I did that already."

"That was just basic training, something any new recruit would go through. As Champion, you'll need to learn more than basic fighting. You need to know how to lead, how to identify demons, how to cast stronger magic, and much more. Your honor guard will need to train as well, to better protect you in the coming Crusade. You've both learned much since coming to the tower, but there is yet more to be learned."

"Your welcome Siegfried, I'm glad I could help."

The two of you exit the storage room and walk back to the chapel with Roland. Daniel returns to the pews to continue reading while you and Roland say goodbye and leave the church.

"What did the two of you talk about in there?"

"I just told him what's happened since the invasion. I told him Reinhardt and that pickpocket Sirus would be joining us, and a few other things. Then I asked him what happens when we get back to the tower."

"And what did he say?"

"Apparently we've got more training ahead of us. Probably a trip to Galloway and Bellmore too."

"Really? Well that's great, I admit I was starting to miss my home country."

"Then that's something for you to look forward to, but we've got more training to do first."

You're about to head back to your bedroom and meditate when you remember you still haven't asked Joan about that spell she case earlier. Curious, you approach her and ask.

"Hey Joan, what are you reading?" You ask her, trying to be friendly.

Berry is still asleep on her shoulder, so she just turns the book around and shows you the cover. It says "Practical Applications of Arcane Theory"

"Sounds pretty advanced. Does it tell you how to cast spells?"

Joan holds up a hand and shakes it in a "sort of" motion.

"Is that where you learned that weird ice spell you used during the battle?"

She shakes her head, and pulls out a different book from her stash, labeled "Elements: An Intermediate Guide to Elemental Spellcraft". She flips the pages, and points to an entry labeled "Curse of Ice", and pushes it towards you for you to read.

"Curse of Ice: This advanced spell allows the spellcaster to bestow the Curse of Ice to an object (or with practice, objects) for a limited time. This causes the object to freeze any organic material it comes in contact with, potentially slowing down the target and making the effected area brittle."

"Huh, sounds useful. Mind if I borrow this?"

Joan nods.

"Alright, thanks. I'll bring it back to you as soon as I finish with it."

Joan shakes her head.

"No?"

She pulls out another book from the pile, a large leather bound book with no title. You remember seeing her pull the same book out when you were attacked by Scavengers a while ago. She points to the book in your hands and back to her book, giving you a thumbs-up.

"Are you saying you already have what you need copied down or something?"

Joan nods.

Alright, in that case I'll hang onto this then. Thanks Joan."

You take the book with you back to your room, where you place it in your backpack with the books you borrowed from the tower library. You make a mental note to flip through it some later, but for now you sit down on your bed with Galadriel laid across your lap, closing your eyes and meditating.

---------
The familiar rush of wind blows past you and when you open your eyes you find that you're atop the clouds once again. This time however, Galadriel is not sitting on top of the mountain peak like she usually is. In fact, she's nowhere to be seen.

"Galadriel?" You call out, standing up and looking around for her.

'Here' You hear in your head, the voice seemingly coming from your right. You turn your head and walk, presumably towards Galadriel, though you don't see her at first. After a while though, you come to what appears to be a flow of water, floating a few feet above the clouds and flowing in a fashion similar to a river. Gazing down the floating river's path, you see Galadriel crouched down in front of the unnatural river, her helmet lying next to her and splashing water onto her face.

"Galadriel?" You ask, realizing you've never actually seen her without her helmet on. Well, technically you have, but that was different, and there were a lot more eyes...

Galadriel looks towards you, and for the first time you get a glimpse of her normal face. She has shoulder length blonde hair, and eyes that appear deep red, clearly unnatural though at least this time there's only two. She reaches down and pulls off a tuft of the cloud, using it to dry her face. How a cloud can dry someone's face, you're not sure, but then again this place clearly doesn't follow the normal laws of the world.

"Hello Siegfried." She says groggily. "What brings you here today?"

"Well before that, what's wrong? You sound a little groggy."

"Well, I was actually going to ask you about the Demon Lords. Since I'm the official Champion now, I might as well learn what I'm up against."

Galadriel picks up the helmet lying next to her and stands up, holding the helmet under her arm. "I see, that would be a wise course of action. Before we start, what do you already know of the Demon Lords?"

You think. "Well, I know there's four of them. Alastor, Eligos, Balaam, and Lilith. Alastor's domain borders Iseria, Eligos' borders Belmore, Balam's borders Galloway and Lilith's is behind their domains, close to Malaphas' fortress."

"Good, do you know anything else about them?"

"Well Alastor is the lord of wrath, and I know he's blind in his left eye. I'm guessing he has a thing for fire or something too. I don't know anything about the others though."
>>
>>40189079
"Very well then, then I shall summarize the rest of what you should know. Eligos is the Demon Lord of Fear, and is unique amongst the Demon Lords in that his soul is split between his body and a separate one, which takes the form of a mount which he rides into battle. His mount can change it's form to suit his needs and is very powerful on it's own. However, if one were to die, then the other would be severely weakened. He often employs ice magic, and can create powerful illusions. Balaam is the Demon Lord of Greed, and is a very powerful spellcaster. Though he is not as strong in conventional combat as his peers, he is the strongest spellcaster amongst them. He has no affinity for any particular element. Lilith is the Demon Lord of Pride, and the weakest of the surviving Demon Lords. As such, she prefers not to fight her opponents head on, instead using spies and assassins to do her work. When she must fight in person, she is capable of bending the wills of others to suit her, either controlling her enemies and making them her slaves or forcing her foes to kill each other. She is in charge of most of Malaphas's spies and assassins, and has no elemental preference, much like Balaam."

You listen closely to everything Galadriel says, and when she finishes you ask her a few questions.

"How many Demon Lords were there before?"

"Hundreds. Only the four that rule over the Forsaken Lands remain, the rest were slain in the Great Crusade, when my kind still fought side by side with your kind."

"What about Malaphas? What's his vice?"

"No one knows. He has kept it a secret since he was born of Malal's spilled blood. Not even his Demon Lords know."

"When I've practiced fighting demons here before, you said they were from your memories right? Is it possible for you to show me the actual memories? If so, could you show me memories from fighting the Demon Lords?"
>>
>>40189094
Galadriel thinks. "It is possible, yes. You may learn something from watching, but many of the memories I have from fighting the Demon Lords do not end well. Many of my Champions have been lost to them, you may see them die in some of my memories. Are you sure you want to see them?"

You're reminded of the dreams you used to have, where you saw past champions die. Seeing that was not fun in the slightest, but you could learn a lot from watching.

"I'll be fine." You tell Galadriel.

"I already have a vague idea on what Alastor is like, so let's start with Balaam."

"Very well then." Galadriel says, and suddenly the scenery begins to change. Galadriel still stands next to you, but now you stand in front of a large fortress built into the mountainside, the stone all painted red.

The scene is chaos, as spells and arrows fly overhead and soldiers clash with demons of varying shapes and sizes outside the tower. Catapults and balistae mounted on the tower fire at the demons, some of which fly around the tower, evading the coming projectiles as best they can.

On the ground, the demonic horde starts to split, and a figure can be seen approaching the tower. This figure is a demon, with three hideous heads, pale white skin, and four arms bearing a normal hand holding a staff, a clawed hand, a blade, and a fourth hand which looks like some sort of torch. Though only average height, something about this demon is very unsettling. All demons move out of this one's way, and any projectiles aimed at it are frozen by some invisible force, before being turned around and sent back to the source. You see one unfortunate soldier try to charge this demon, who does not even looking in the soldiers direction. When the soldier gets too close, he is suddenly frozen solid in a block of ice, before the demon reaches out with it's bladed hand and slashes the frozen soldier in two, red blood staining his frozen remains.

"This battle is pointless." It declares, in an unnatural voice which can be hear loud and clear over the sounds of battle. "Surrender your archives, and I will allow you to leave with your lives."

A new figure approaches, a human wearing plate mail and wielding a golden battleaxe in both hands. "Ye won't have the archives, Balaam. Not until ye've pried it from mine cold dead hands." The tone of the Champion's voice makes you think it a woman, who's accent and old-fashioned way of speaking make you think she's from Galloway many centuries ago.

"That can easily be arranged." Balaam states, before hunching over and uttering a low growl. His form begins to change, changing from pale white to sickly brown, and he starts to grow much larger, until he stands taller than a house back in Morsland. His first two hands take on a more human shape, while his last two sprout insect-like wings. He grows a new mouth, from which a long barbed tongue lolls forth, and lets out a shrill hiss that sounds akin to the sound an insect might make.

Having assumed this new strange form, Balaam takes off, throwing fireballs as big as a horse cart at the Champion. The Champion responds by growing six wings of warm yellow light, and flying after the Demon Lord, maneuvering around the giant fireballs thrown her way. Balaam changes tactics, taking a deep breathe and exhaling a large green net of dripping acid at the Champion. The Champion mutters an incantation, creating a shield of force around herself and charging through the net of acid unharmed.

Their airborne duel continues for a while, one casting a spell while the other counters with their own. At some point, the Champion finally catches up to Balaam, slashing at the grotesque demon with her battleaxe. Balaam holds up a hand to block it, letting it's blade cut his palm rather than his face. It sizzles as Galadriel burns Balaams flesh, causing him to roar in protest. It seem Balaam does not have a high pain tolerance.

"Insolence!" Balaam screams, his speech filled with rapid bug-like clicks. "How DARE you lay a hand on me!"

"The archives are not yours to take, demon! Ye will never have them."

"Then I will destroy them, and all of you as well!"

Balaam suddenly disappears, reappearing high above the tower and flying Champion, silhouetted by the full moon. He swiftly begins clicking out a new incantation, causing a swirling ball of fire to take form in his hands. It swiftly grows in size, until it almost eclipses the moon behind him. The Champion, realizing what's happening, tries to stop him before he can finish the spell but reaches him too late. He hurls the massive ball of hellfire down towards the tower, capturing the Champion, crusaders, and many demons in the blast. For a moment, you fear the fire will burn you and Galadriel as well, but when the fire reaches you you feel no pain. It seems the things in this memory can't hurt either of you.

When the fire finally clears, the entire tower has been destroyed, only a molten pile of magma left where it once stood. It cools and hardens into solid rock in a matter of second, leaving nothing but stone and ash where once a large battle took place.

Balaam changes back to his original pale white form, all three of his heads breathing heavily.

"Perhaps I overdid it." He mutters to himself between pants. "A shame I could not obtain the archives, but now they will not have them either."

Balaam begins to fly east, presumably to the Forsaken Lands, leaving nothing but ash and ruin behind. Once he's so far you can't see him anymore, you see something move amongst the stone. A golden battleaxe comes into view, seemingly phasing through the solid stone. It then sits there atop the stone, motionless, and somehow you feel as though the axe itself were mourning the loss of it's wielder, and all the crusaders who died in this battle.

The scene changes once again, and you find yourself standing next to Galadriel on top of the clouds by the floating river once again.

"Now you see what a Demon Lord is capable of." Galadriel says, looking down as she speaks, probably saddened by the memory.

"I don't get it, that was the Red Watchtower right? Isn't it still standing?"

"The current Red Watchtower is not the original Red Watchtower. It was rebuilt after the original was destroyed by Balaam."

"What about the archives he mentioned, what was that?"

"The Red Watchtower's archives are where much valuable information is stored. Ancients tomes on everything from history to arcane theory can be found there. It is also where much forbidden lore is stored away if it cannot be destroyed."

"Forbidden lore?"

"The secrets of necromancy, rituals for demonic posession, and many other terrible secrets are stored in the archives, all of them either impossible or difficult to destroy, so instead it is sealed away where no one can abuse it."

"So the archives are all gone now?"

"No, some of the archives tomes survived the Red Watchtower Disaster, as your kind have taken to calling it. The archives run deep underground, so not all of it was destroyed by Balaam's spell. What remains is only a fraction of what there originally was, and among the things which were destroyed were the official records of what powers my Champions possessed. After their destruction, all that remained were legends and fictional tales, leaving the truth skewed and difficult to find. It is why the crusaders know little of my capabilities outside of old legends of varying accuracy. But enough of that, what's important is what you learned from this vision. Was there anything you noticed from that battle?"

You think on everything you saw for a moment. "Well, obviously Balaam has a lot of power to destroy an entire watchtower with one spell. However, it looks like he can't handle pain very well. That's useful to know."

"Very good. Was there anything else you could guess about him?"

"It looks like he's also easily angered if he's hurt. He was pretty calm up until he got hit, and then he lost it."
>>
>>40190788
"Indeed. And as the Demon Lord of Greed, it is his personal belief that if he cannot have something he wants, then it is best to destroy it so that no one can have it. It is why he destroyed the tower and killed everyone in it."

You can feel Galadriel's sadness through the mental link between you. "Are you alright?" You ask her.

"...I am fine." She responds, her face blank. "The loss of my old Champion saddened me, as did the deaths of the red tower's crusaders. It was a tragedy, but one which can be learned from. So long as they help you when you encounter him yourself, I do not mind reliving those memories. Though if you don't mind, I would prefer to stop there for today. My head still hurts, and I admit that seeing those memories again is not easy for me."

You begin flipping through the pages of the book you borrowed on entry level enchantments. There's of course the first chapter, which goes over the basics of enchantment, the part you had to study after your first attempt at enchantment. The rest of the book divides it's enchantments by type. There's a chapter in the book for offensive weapon enchantments, defensive armor enchantments, and utility enchantments for items in general.

Choose 2 of the following.

>Elemental enchantment (Weapons are wreathed in the chosen element. Armor protects against the chosen element)
>Holy enchantment (Weapon does increased damage to demons, though the damage is not permanent like Galadriel. Has no effect on non-demonic targets)
>Ward enchantment (Armor protects more effectively against physical attacks)
>Strength enchantment (Armor or item increases wearer's strength)
>Speed enchantment (Armor or item increases wearer's speed)
>Weightless enchantment (Weapon, armor, or item weighs significantly less than normal)
>Monster-Slaying enchantment (Weapon does increased damage to monsters. Has no effect on non-monster targets.)

You spend some time studying the elemental and ward enchantments. You have Galadriel so you won't be needing the weapon variant of the elemental enchantment, but making yourself resistant to certain elements and more resistant to physical attacks will be helpful. Plus, you could always enchant your honor guards weapons if you have time.

>New enchantment learned! Elemental enchantment
>New enchantment learned! Ward enchantment

By the time you've memorized them, the moon is already starting to climb into the sky, meaning all the shops will have been closed by now. You also hear chatter coming from the other room, meaning the others have probably returned by now. Setting your book back inside your bag, you go to check.

In the living room, you find all the members of your honor guard have returned. Justine and Nerillian are carrying a bag full of meat with them, apparently fresh judging by the fact it's still stained with blood.

"Where did you get that from?"

"Justine and I went hunting." Nerillian answers. "We overheard some locals at the market complaining that a pack of Dire Boars were skulking around the roads outside town, so we decided to lend a hand."

"Dire Boars? This close to the city? Must have gotten bold because of the attack."

"Perhaps. They're gone now though, we've dealt with the pack." Justine says.

"Wait, you killed the WHOLE pack?"

"You forget that Justine and I were hunters before we came to the watchtower, though our choice of prey was different." Nerillian responds.

"There was too much meat left over, so we sent the rest to the church, to help them feed the civilians staying there." Justine says.

"There's still a lot here even now." Roland adds. "It will take me a while, but there should be more than enough here for everyone."

You can enchant an item with more than one enchantment, but the more enchantments a single item has the less effective both will be. So for example, if you enchanted armor to protect against fire, it would do a pretty good job of protecting against fire. If you enchanted it to protect against fire and ice, then it would protect against both, but not as effectively as if it had been specialized to protect against one or the other. Some enchantments have less of an Aetheric "cost" then others though, for example your shield's ability to swap between a glove and a shield doesn't really drain much of the aether it's been saturated with, so you could put another enchantment on it without there really being much of a difference.

"So Ganelon, Roland, what are your home countries like? Apparently as the new champion I'm expected to make a grand tour of them to rally their support for the upcoming crusades, what should I expect?"

"Wait, you're heading to Galloway and Belmore? Who told you that?" Erika asks.

"Daniel did, and it's not just me, we're all heading there at some point."

"Is that so? That should be interesting, I'll admit I've never been outside of Iseria." Nerillian says.

"I am more than happy to tell you about Belmore, Siegfired." Ganelon says, setting his fork down.

"I don't mind talking about Galloway either." Roland agrees.

"Alright, lets start with Galloway then, since we'll probably be heading there first. What can we expect from the locals there?"

"Hm, where to start? Well, you should know that Galloway has always been proud to stand with the crusaders, so your reception there should be very good. If you're going to rally their support, you'll likely be speaking with the nobility there. I will be there to help you, but you should know that the nobility of Galloway can be a little...tricky at times, and I say this coming from a small noble house myself. There are a few customs you'll need to know about before speaking with any of them, I'll do my best to teach you before we go there. We have a very high opinion of Galadriel's Champions in Galloway as well, which means you'll be held to a very high standard, so be careful of what you do while in public. You might have to give a speech or two while you're there, so you may want to practice that as well."

"Why the high opinion of Champions?"

"My country has a very romantic view on the crusades. They think it is a noble cause, and as such they think a lot of the Champions who lead the crusades. A lot of the support is patriotic as well, we have not forgotten the Red Watchtower Disaster and many are eager to repay Balaam for that tragedy."

"Okay, anything else I should know?"

Roland thinks. "Oh! There is also an old tradition in Galloway, that a new Champion should be looked over and approved by the House of Lione before Galloway accepts them and sends their support. Though it's been a long time since we've done that, since it's been a long time since Galadriel actually chose a Champion."

"House Lione? Who are they?"

"You don't know? They're the descendants of the first Champion, Asher 'The Lion'."

Asher? He still has descendants? You had no idea.

"Okay then, I imagine we'll need you to help us with a lot of the customs once we get there. What about you Ganelon, what can you tell us about Belmore?"

Ganelon sits up straight. "Well, my country does not glorify the crusades as much as Galloway does, sadly, but there is a lot of support for it as well. Our border with the Forsaken Lands, the Lost Marsh, is a very dangerous land where many people have been killed or captured by demons crossing the border to capture mortals for their farms. As such, we have a very grim but realistic view on the crusades, seeing it as a dangerous yet necessary war to fight. The people have many traditions and superstitions surrounding demons and the Lost Marsh, including an old tradition that you leave a red candle lit on your doorstep during the New Moon."

"What does that have to do with demons?"

"It keeps the villages lit even when the moon is gone. Demons from the marsh often come to raid border villages during the new moon when it's darker than usual, so the candles keep the villages lit and allegedly discourage demons from raiding them."

"Oh, that makes some sense. Anything else I should know?"

"Just a few do's and don'ts which I will instruct you on before we arrive there. We are a very traditional people, so there are a few thing you should know when we get there. However, I must warn you that because Belmore lies on the border to the Lord of Fear's domain, the people can be a little suspicious, especially of outsiders. Most will trust you once they know that you are Galadriel's Champion, though I would advise against giving out that information freely."

"Why?"

"Though we have always supported the crusades, there are some in Belmore that would rather not see another crusade, just as there are some who think that in Iseria. They fear marching into the marsh, though I cannot fault them for that. Many strange things come from there, not all of which are demonic. The church is very prominent in Belmore though, some even hold real power in the kingdom's government. You will always find friends amongst the church's clergy."

The rest of dinner is spent discussing things you need to know about Belmore and Galloway. Traditions, Do's and Don'ts, some manners that differ from Iseria's, amongst a few other things. Both Ganelon and Roland promise to guide you once you actually get to their countries though, so you will have help at least.

Before long, everyone has finished eating and the dishes are put away. It is late at night by now, most of your honor guard is either getting ready to go to bed, meditating, or reading by now.

We gotta annoy Sirius and Rinhart in the morning.
Also when we see Sirius ask him about his spellbook.

>>

that's not creepy at all
>>
>>40192392
No something better. Lets make it a meaningful dream. Like we are on our deathbed as an old man surrounded by our family and friends and Galardriel is there to guide our soul in her human form. ITT: Good premotion dream.
>>
>>40192435
you fool that is a deathflag
>>
>>40192435
That is going to end with us successfully defending Morslad after defeating one or two demon lords. Then we'll be ambushed by two demon lords at the same time, and we'll lay there dying surrounded by family and friends.

Dreams can be metaphorical, too.
>>
....hey, if we stacked Weightless Enchantments on all, and I do mean ALL of the stuff we wear, would Galadriel be able to lift us without the wing power?
>>
>>40192495
interesting thought maybe
>>
>>40192456
>>40192482
Have you read the ''old man'' bit or the bit with Galardriel not being a sword any longer (which means no demons or she's whisked away to the Void)

>>40192495
Um our hits would carry no weight. But hey we can fly by jumping up and casting a bit of wind magic for propulsion.
>>
>>40192508
Compared to all the other champions, defeating two demon lords counts as retiring age, alright.
>>
>>40192508
>Um our hits would carry no weight.
We can't enchant Galadriel, so our attacking weight is not changed. Knockback and recoil resistance, though...
>>
>>40192517
Then we let Galardriel guide our soul to be reborn as an elf (for longlivety) with our memories intact.

Imagine Nirrelians face when we call him dad.
>>
>>40192555
I don't think Galadriel is a valkyrie, nor has any control over the souls of the dead.
>>
>>40192576
She's an angel. Same thing really.
>>
>>40192659
That really isn't her department, anon. And even if it was she basically quit it to smite demons on the mortal plane.
>>
>>40192659
valkyries are from a different mythology and have different domains. Said domain is NOT reincarnation, but using the souls of honorable warriors to plunge them into MORE fighting.

It's the complete opposite of what Galadriel wants for Siegfried, or any other champion.

I don't think it works that way, and probably would require Sieg to learn necromancy and do or learn something that goes against everything Galadriel stands for.
>>
>>40192303
It's been a long day, so you decide to head straight to bed. Leaning Galadriel against the bedroom wall, you get changed and fall in bed, closing your eyes and quickly falling asleep.

-------
The young man stand victorious, holding his dulled greatsword in the air triumphantly. The crowd roars with applause for him, commending his skill at arms. He smiles, proud of his accomplishment. He has done it, he was won the tourney. Even if this is as far as he goes, his name will become quite famous in his region.

“Congratulations, you are this years champion! In addition to the gold you have earned, you shall be given the right to test your worth with the sacred blade, Galadriel!”

Two people come into the arena, wearing enchanted gloves and bearing the golden blade over their shoulders. They place it on a pedestal in the center of the arena, and motion for the young warrior to come over.

This is it, the moment of truth. If he can lift the sword, his name will be recorded in the annals of history. He will become the new Champion of Galadriel, and lead his kingdom and others in a glorious crusade to retake the Forsaken Lands. Fortune and Glory await him, should the holy maiden find him worthy.

The stadium holds it's breathe, as he steps up to the pedestal and places his hands on the blade's handle.
>>
>>40192696
any aid Galadriel would give would be in the form of "get back up for one last heroic charge" deal, rather than reincarnation.

Because this is SERIOUSLY not Galadriel's domain.
>>
>>40192753
--------
From within the blade, Galadriel senses the young man's presence the moment he touches the blade. In a flash, she sees it all. His history, his motivations, all of it. In just a split second, she knows this man better than he knows himself. He is strong, brave, eager to fight and retake the Forsaken Lands. His motivation is glory, he wants his name to live on long after he does. Not the most noble of motivations, but not one worthy of disdain either. She ponders his worth, he has proven his skill for sure, but he is not the pinnacle of virtue she would like. Deep down though, she knows that her expectations are too high. It has been a long time since she chose a new champion because her expectations were too high. He is strong, and he is brave, more so than the average mortal by far. If he were to wield her blade...

---------
A collective gasp escapes the audience as the sword starts to slowly rise from it's pedestal. This young man has done it, he has been judged by the holy maiden and found worthy. The crowds erupt in cheers.

“Ladies and gentleman, I present to you your new Champion, Andras of Taernsby! May Aureus smile on him from the Void!”

---------
You eyes snap open, and it takes you a moment to remember where you are. You had another dream, just like before, except this time you didn't see a Champion die. This time, you saw Andras when he first became Champion. Something was different about him in your dreams though, if you hadn't heard his name you would have never guessed it was him. Why were you seeing that though? Galadriel said she wasn't the one giving you visions, so where are these visions coming from?

You shake you head. There's no use wondering about all this early in the morning. Besides, today's the day you head back to the watchtower, you need to hurry and get ready.

Everyone meets up at the city gate before noon. There's you, your honor guard, Reinhardt, Daniel, and Sirus, who is currently wearing manacles around his arms, the key to which is held by Daniel.

"Well I'll be damned, I didn't actually think you'd manage to convince that haughty asshole to let me go." Sirus admits.

"-I- can't believe you thought bringing a crook along was a good idea." Reinhardt complains.

"I don't like him any more than you do Reinhardt, but he's got talent. We're going to need that talent once the crusades start."

"Do we really need him though? I mean, one guy's not going to change the tide of the crusade, but he can be a pain in our asses."

"Oh no, don't mind me, I'm just standing here in the background. By all means, continue talking about me as though I'm not here." Sirus says dryly.

"See, he's already a pain in my ass."

"That's enough, both of you. Our friend here has agreed to help us, so I am willing to trust him." Daniel intervenes.

"Wait, you're seriously going to trust a thief?" Reinhardt asks.

"I am willing to believe in him, yes."

"See? At least someone here's willing to give me a chance."

"Also because the Rite of Conscription involves casting a curse that will make him lock up if he tries to run or cause trouble. The captain of the guard tells me the spell was cast on him last night while he was sleeping."

"Wait, wha-"

"Now, enough dawdling, we have a long road ahead of us. Siegfried, if you would be so kind as to lead the way?"

You nod, and lead the group through the city gates and down the road towards the White Watchtower. The last time you were there, you were only a temporary Champion. This time, you'll be entering the tower a fully fledged Champion of Galadriel.

"So, how's our 'friend's' little upgrade coming along?"

The lord of Greed, Balaam, turns around to see Alastor enter his workshop. "Ah, Alastor, I was not aware you were coming to visit."

"Malaphas wanted me to check in on the cripple's progress. How's he doing?"

"Quite well actually. I doubt he will be ready to enter battle again for quite some time, but he hasn't died from the treatment yet so I'm hopeful for the future."

Alastor sneers. "Figures. To be honest, I was hoping I'd find out he keeled over already."

"I see. If I may ask, why the hostility towards our king's fallen general? I would think you and him would get along fairly well."

"Pah! Just what would make you think that?"

"Well, your the lord of wrath, and he's a very wrathful individual. Don't birds of a feather flock together?"

"We are nothing alike. His anger is tainted, misdirected. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and it makes me sick every time I see him."

"I'm curious, just what about his anger is 'tainted' exactly?"

The lord of Wrath shakes his head. "You wouldn't understand. It's not the fact he holds a mean grudge, it's where that grudge comes from that makes it tainted."

"I'm not sure I follow."

"That's because you never really paid attention to him back when he was human. I fought him back then, and I saw how different he was when he came to Malaphas. He used to be fun to fight, but now I can't stand him."

"I see. Well, I'm sure I would understand if I were a lord of wrath rather than greed. I'll just mark it down as personal differences for now though."

Alastor groans. "Call it whatever the Void you want. I need to go let Malaphas know his little pet is still kicking, you have fun with your little experiment."
>>
>>40192791
"Oh don't worry friend, I shall." Balaam says returning to his work. Red eyes shine behind iron, as Andras awakens to find the lord of greed continue to work on him. Something is different though, his eyes seem more savage then before, glowing with an aura of palpable hatred. Soon, he will return to the battlefield. Soon, he will be a useless cripple no longer. Soon, he will have his revenge. Soon...

Akright, and I'm going to call it a night here folks. This is where I'm going to go on hiatus, so once I'm ready to run again I'll inform everyone on twitter. I'll stick around to answer questions if you've got them.

Thanks for playing folks, I hope you all had fun. It's been 25 threads already, and I've had fun the whole time. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next thread.

Oh yeah, and for those of you who don't follow the twitter, I got this from Decu's drawthread yesterday. Thought you guys might like it.
>>
>>40192824
That's probably why Andras is so angry. Galadriel wouldn't spoon him.
>>
>>40192843
Thanks for the thread OP! Very enjoyable.

>>40192843
Thanks for running Sparks, wait you're going on haitus?! Any idea when you'll be coming back?!

Please don't be too long, this is one of my favorite quests.

>>40192844
>We meet again Seigfred! This time I will take Galadriel from your shattered corpse, and none shall stop our embrace!
>Really, Andras? Have you ever even seen her without the helmet?
>SHE CAN TAKE THE HELMET OFF?!
>I know right? You wouldn't believe how drunk I had to get her just to take off that....
>U WOT M8
>>
>>40192903
Oh man. I can see this coming.

Sorry Andras but she dumped you for a good reason so you best stop bothering her or i'll enforce that restrainment order and seal you in this magic shield.,.
>>
>>40192508
>Um our hits would carry no weight.
A weapon with the weightless enchantment wouldn't make your hits carry less impact. However, you could potentially get sent flying by a really hard hit if all your armor had the weightless enchantment. Then again, if something's hitting you with that much force, odds are you'd have at least been knocked down anyways.
>>40192495
Maybe
>>40192903
Not sure, though it won't be more than two weeks tops unless something major happens. I'm just using this time to unwind, do some planning for HSQ, and figure out how to make combat not boring as fuck for you guys.
>>
>>40192941
>Maybe
perfect! I mean, obviously not for us, as that would be terribly wasteful of enchant slots, but being able to ferry-in one of the Honor Guard if Galadriel ever gets separated from Sieg(again) would be useful.

As for actual builds, I'm all for defense. We've already got haste, so Speed Enchants can maybe go to one of our other members.
>>
>>40192941
>two weeks
Thanks for the reassurance, haitus translates to several month long absence for some quests.
>>
>>40192941
>figure out how to make combat not boring as fuck for you guys.

Hey what about Fall Guy's combat chain system. I always had fun with that.
>>
>>40192994
No problem man, I know hiatus sometimes translates to "Dead Quest", so I understand the concern. I have no intention of dropping this quest though, I enjoy running it way too much to drop it.
>>40192966
I'll be honest, I have some mixed feelings. On the one hand, it makes Angel Wings pointless. On the other hand, it's cool and I like cool. Also, I could always say that having Galadriel carry you is less controllable than Angel Wing flight, so...

Fuck it. Yeah, if you enchanted all your gear to be weightless Galadriel could probably lift you, though it would take some effort on her part so you couldn't fly that way for too long.
>>40193048
I'm not familiar with it. What quest is it from and how does it work?
>>
>>40193064
>Fuck it. Yeah, if you enchanted all your gear to be weightless Galadriel could probably lift you, though it would take some effort on her part so you couldn't fly that way for too long.
that's great, but I think you're misunderstanding something here: we won't be the ones riding. Reinhardt/Erika/Joan the golden surfer!
>>
>>40193064
>I'm not familiar with it. What quest is it from and how does it work?

Deniable Assets Quest and more recently Extranatural Enforcer.

Essentially we write in a chain of moves that we want the MC to preform then roll for each move individually against DCs you feel are right for the difficulty of the move.

Ex.
1. Cast Blink
2. Blink behind enemy
3. Power attack enemy neck
4. Blink to enemies side to get clear.
>>
>>40193064
>>40193117
to make sure rolls are better spread, every roll is 3d10(as in each post is 3d10).

In DAQ and EEQ, the excess from previous DCs is added to later attacks, to encourage progressively ballsy actions. Not really fair or realistic, but hella cool.

oh, and Blink doesn't work that way, it's purely random and defensive.
>>
>>40193117
Hm, that sounds interesting. I'll give it a look.

>That action chain
>No "Psh, nothing personal...kid"
I'm disappointed anon.
>>
>>40193161
A better example would be:

>run for cover
>provide covering fire
>vault over cover
>Charge in for melee attack
>Take cover behind enemy mech
>Suplex enemy mech
>>
>>40193161
Hey regardless if you like the combat system they are both really fun reads.
>>
>>40193161
>>40193184
translated into HSQ:

>Run for cover
>switch to bow and provide covering fire
>vault over cover
>switch to sword and charge, shield first
>Slide under big demon and do a crotch attack
>Switch to hammer and break spine
>>
>>40193117
>>40193156
So to clarify, the first anon to reply with a roll puts his 3d10 towards the first action, the second anon puts his towards the second action, etc., and any excess from the previous DC is added to the next roll?

I'll give both of those quests a read to see what the system's like in action, but yeah that definitely sounds better than how I've handled combat up to this point.
>>
>>40193267
The first MC (yes there is two) in EEQ uses a bat and is mostly a melee combatant so he's a good source to look at for Sieg.
>>
>>40193267
yup and yup.

.....didn't I recommend these to you after the very first battle in HSQ?
>>
>>40193307
Did you? I don't remember. If you did then I probably should have listened, combat is the most common complaint I hear about HSQ, and for good reason. I'm hoping once I come back from hiatus and change the system that'll change.
