General Synopsis/Quick Introduction: As the subject line implies, this quest will be taking place within the Nasuverse

For those not as well-read into TYPE-MOON's works, please do not feel overwhelmed or threatened; I will do my best to ease as many of you in as possible

The quest will NOT begin with a focus on the main character, but rather on his great grandfather. The one who brings this entire shit show into fruition via his penis.

In a normal post you can expect me to provide four options with the fifth being a prompt for write-ins.

Thank you in advance for any consideration you may give this thread and please feel free to offer any criticism or feedback.

Previously - After finally making it to Toby's house, we found out that Toby was, in no way, exaggerating when he claimed his father was a survival/gun nut. So, of course, we 'borrowed' as much gear as we deemed appropriate and then went to search for our friends. Unfortunately, we were soon jumped by some sort of monster, which we managed to fend off. We then met up with Grandpa Eli, who gave us a weapon to give to Dante. And we won! We totally scared that thing off after gravely injuring it.

But we also lost one of our friends. Toby is gone.

It took you the better part of a month, but you've finally done it. You, Elijah Brinwell, have managed to gather six allies to your cause. You've managed to collect six of the beings you've come across or assisted since stepping into the often eccentric underworld of the super and preternatural. You've even convinced them to meet you at your estate, in your study. The room has been made up to be extra cozy and it seems that it appeals to the majority of the folks you have gathered.

Gordon, the 'Wendigo' you once saved from the wrath of the church remains standing, gaze slowly drifting across the room, only stopping when he chooses to stare intently at one of it's inhabitants. Connor O'Reily, the Church's expert Magus Hunter is currently sharing a glass of whiskey with the blond-haired Hans Dreschner. Hans seems to be trying to nudge Emilia into drinking, but the raven-haired immigrant seems far more interested in simply watching the two young men joke and laugh. Standing beside you is your good friend and confidant, Bernard, who has seen you through some very troubling times, including the time his estranged father attempted to kill you. The last of the room's inhabitants is none other than Samson, a grizzled man of indeterminate age who you've suspected of being some sort of retired assassin for quite some time.

Of the people in this room, who are the ones most capable of sabotaging your mission to invade the Brinwell estate and rescue your daughter and the love of your life, Elisa Orchard?

A) Samson and Emilia; you don't know much about either of them, and they work with far too many people to be trust
B) Gordon; he is not your friend, he just owes you
C) Connor O'Reily; the church's goals are a mystery to you and that's not okay
D) Bernard; it's always the butler and doubly so if the butler is your best friend

You can't help but glance at Gordon for a moment and, perhaps as if sensing your gaze his eyes meet yours. Though it only lasts a split second, you see beyond the visage of humanity that Gordon wears. You see the predator lying underneath and you mange to only just suppress a shudder. Gordon may wear the skin of a man, but he is no human and he does not understand how to be one. That does not bode well for the delicate nature of this operation. However, you are not exactly drowning in options so you keep your thoughts to yourself and rise from your seat behind your desk.

"Thank you very much for meeting me here today, everyone" you exclaim, opening your arms in as welcoming a manner as you can. Connor smiles at you and raises your glass in salute while Hans claps politely, prompting Emilia to roll her eyes and mimic him. Samson and Gordon don't seem particularly impressed and simply watch you expectantly. "Well, the job won't be easy, everybody. But it will be rewarding....very, rewarding" you take a moment to include a dramatic pause. Hans looks about excitedly, obviously enjoying the showmanship.

"We will be raiding the estate of one Samuel Brinwell, the Head of the Brinwell Family of Magi." You take a moment to observe your audience and you are satisfied. Even Samson looks fairly impressed and Hans and Connor look downright ecstatic. "Our first move in this operation will be to set up a meeting between Mr. Dreschner and Samuel Brinwell. Hopefully, Mr. Dreschner will be able to give us a detailed blueprint of the Brinwell estate as well as secure, for himself, an invitation to a very special event." You pause to take a sip out of a cup of whiskey that Connor holds out for you, taking the opportunity to prepare what you will be saying.

"You see, the Brinwell's latest heir, a beautiful little girl who will be celebrating her fifth birthday on May 6th, 1898...and I intend to give her a very special birthday present; her freedom." At that you seem to have secured Samson's interest as the older man sits up a little straighter. Even Gordon seems mildly amused now, as he smiles, ever so faintly at you. "We will be taking young miss Diana Brinwell from her home and escorting her to an appropriate safehouse. However, if, at any point in time, you feel the need to...liberate anything else from the Brinwell Estate, please, feel free". Emilia suddenly shoots to her feet, a smile plastered to her lips. However, you cut her off with a raising of your index finger.

"But be prepared ladies and gentlemen...this will not be easy. Samuel Brinwell is a very wealthy and very powerful magus. Coupled with the fact that he has already set his sights upon me...the odds are not in our favor. So, I will understand if you do not wish to follow me in this, but I MUST know now who WILL follow me"

Luckily, it seems, everyone will as you are answered with six variations of yes.

Oh...you are good, Elijah Brinwell.

It took you the better part of a month, but you've finally done it. You, Elijah Shoshtak, have managed to get over the death of your friend. You've managed to master the near overwhelming waves of self-loathing and anger that have plagued you over the last four weeks. You even managed to get a line out to your family, who, apparently, are spending the summer with one Grandpa Eli's friends in Hamilton. Your siblings had a lot of questions regarding themselves and your father and life in general, but it seems they are adjusting well. Or so your mother claims. You even got a spend some time with your family, but the question is....who REALLY helped you get over the fact that your friend Toby is dead. Who helped you get past the fact that while you tried your best to rescue him, you failed to.

A) Dante. He's proven to be a true friend over the last month, spending extra time training with you and taking you out to do stuff. He's kind of become one of your best friends
B) Anna. You two have been best friends for years and this event, oddly enough, has somehow brought you two even closer. I suppose grief can do that.
C) Grandpa Eli. After pulling some strings, he managed to cover up Toby's death as a suicide, which, apparently, was not that much of a surprise to the school counselors. Apparently, Toby had some serious problems at home.
D) Jessie. Toby's death acted as an odd sort of catalyst for your relationship with Jessie. You two have spent most of your free-time together in the last month or so.
E) Your Family. Deciding to spend some extra time with them, you spent a week or so in Hamilton with your family and have reconnected with them. Your mother helped you get past Toby's death and Grandpa Eli's Friend, Ms. O'Reily and your siblings have helped you immensely
F) Yourself. You decided to stop feeling bad for yourself and have thrown yourself wholeheartedly into this war. You've learned quite a bit about your own capabilities.

"Hide, hide, HIDE!" you whisper urgently as you hear the hallway floor creak. Rolling her eyes and stifling her giggles, Jessie slithers off the far side of your bed and out of sight. You've spent most of the summer at your 'grandfather's home, so you know that the floorboards only creak that much when he or someone close to his size steps on them. You also know that he does not approve of you having Jessie in your room....or the house, for that matter. He's never quite elaborated on why, but to be fair, you've never asked him to.

Grabbing hold of your t-shirt, you pull it over your head and step off of your bed, reaching for the doorknob just as someone raps on your. Swinging the door open, you smile at your Grandpa Eli arrogantly and say "What? Do you need my help opening a jar of pickles or something?". Your Grandfather snorts and replies "Please. If I couldn't open a jar, you'd suffer an aneurysm even trying. No, Dante is requesting you at the front door" he says before he turns around and begins to walk back towards his own room. Sighing, you glance over your shoulder to smile at Jessie just in time for your grandfather to shout over his own shoulder "And tell Miss Saunders to keep her shirt on if she insists upon being snuck into my home"

Well shit.

Jessie suddenly bursts out in laughter as she gets to her feet and begins putting her bra back on. She has an odd sort of rapport with your grandfather, not that you've seen them speak to one another very often. Only once or twice. "You should go talk to Dante....do that whole 'bromance' thing guys do. I think I should apologize to your grandpa" She says before she hops over your bed, picks up the t-shirt she discarded just in front of the door earlier in the evening and continues dressing herself once more.

Reluctantly, you leave the room and make your way to the first floor.

Standing in the doorway to your grandfather's home is your friend Dante. Given his attire and the satisfied grin on his face, you can tell he's made his way over here from another saturday spent playing soccer. Dante is quite possibly one of the most dedicated athletes you've even heard of; he spends most of his free-time either practicing or simply taking part in impromptu games of the sport of his choice. After having gotten to know him better, you can't help but feel that he's earned his reputation.

Stepping into his personal space, you raise your hand and find yourself pulled into a broshake, which concludes with both you and Dante slapping each other's back slightly harder than either of you would need to. As you separate you notice that Dante has now adopted a far more serious expression.

"Eli, I need your help with some shit; some serious shit. Like, life-threatening shit"

A) Nod and say "Say no more; let me just grab some gear, let Grandpa Eli know and we'll head out"
B) Frown and say "Alright, but I'm going to need to know more before I agree"
C) "Depends on what it is, but I wouldn't get your hopes up"

Raising your hand you gesture to stop Dante you smile and say "Stop talking. I'm gonna need a minute to tell Grandpa Eli, grab some gear and then we'll get to business." And with that, you hustle over to the stairs and make your way up. As you make your way over to your room, you carefully avoid stepping on any section of the hallway that may creak. Frowning, you stop and consider your wide-open door. You were intending to frighten Jessie with your sudden appearance, but she's obviously not in your room.

Continuing along the hallway, you stop outside of Grandpa Eli's room, noting that you can hear two voices whispering. Pressing your ear to the door you hear:

"That's good....the boy still isn't ready. I doubt he could best Dante if, they seriously got into it" It seems your grandpa isn't pleased with you...or some other person he refers to as 'boy'
"Are you sure you want me to keep doing this? What if he finds out on his own?"

...That second voice is Jessie's, no doubt.

A) Open the door, and say "I'm heading out with Dante...feel free to finish your conversation"
B) Don't interrupt them, simply sneak away and prepare yourself to head out
C) Stay hidden and keep listening in
D) Open the door and ask "So, what're we talking about?"

Licking your lips, you ignore your pounding heart and do your best to breath as quietly as you can. Why are you suddenly out of breath? Why is it so hot in this hallway? The air conditioning is on for god's sake.

"Why would I want you to do anything else, Miss Saunders?" your 'grandfather' sounds downright amused, and you can hear his favorite chair groan as he, no doubt, shifts. You can even imagine EXACTLY how he and Jessie are positioned now; he's sitting in his leather chair, facing the door and smirking at Jessie. She's standing awkwardly and probably looking past him rather than at him. She tends to do that when she isn't very comfortable, you've noticed.
"I just...I'm not comfortable keeping this from him; he deserves to know"
"No. No he doesn't. The boy is a failure. He's been a failure since birt-"
"Don't say that!" Jessie sounds pretty angry, now you can imagine she's staring right at your grandfather.
"Oh, please shut up. The boy isn't ready to know about you or the things you've learned about yourself, Miss Saunders. He isn't ready to know and he won't be, not for quite some time. So, this is what's going to happen, you are going to keep your mouth shut regarding your little gifts, I'm going to continue to exploit your ridiculous weakness for my grandson and he is going to continue to be none the wiser. Have I made myself clear?"
"...Crystal, you disgusting, decrepit monster" and with that, you can hear Jessie stomping her way towards the door. Slipping away smoothly, relying upon the eleven or so weeks that you've been training with Dante, you make your way back to your room and pick up your backpack, placing things inside of it just as Jessie walks in.

She jumps, ever so slightly, obviously frightened to have run into you.

Smiling at her, you subtly drop a switchblade from your sock drawer into your backpack before zipping it up. "Where have you been?" you ask as you throw your backpack over your shoulder, and she saunters over to you. Eventually, she's close enough to kiss you, and she does. When you break away and frown at her she smiles mischievously before explaining "Well, I was apologizing to your grandad and he was lecturing me on the things I can and cannot do while in his house. He mentioned something about stripping being one of the things I can't do....luckily, his grandson wasn't specified, so I'm going to say that falls under 'can do'". Smiling, despite the fact that you know she has just lied to your face, you kiss her quickly before groaning and saying "Sorry. Not right now; Dante needs my help with something big and I don't think it can wait".

Though she frowns, Jessie nods and soon you walk her to the front door, where she greets Dante before leaving and begins walking towards the bus stop around the corner. Dante grins at you and raises his fist "Boy, I don't know how or where you got that game, but respect". Rolling your eyes, you smash your fist into his and make your way over to the coat closet beside the front door. Taking out the vest you 'borrowed' from Mr. Mcintyre's collection you slip it on, noting that Grandpa Eli's tailor did a good job of making it fit more snugly. Zipping up your hoodie to hide it, you grab your gloves and shin guards from the floor of the closet and follow Dante to his beat-up, old car.

Dante waits just long enough for you to slide into the passenger seat before he starts the car and begins backing out of the driveway. As your seat belt clicks, he begins speaking.
"I found the Brinwell agent" he whispers.

>>
>>40203209
Clapping your hands together, you smile at him and shout "That's great news! Why do you look so bummed?"
"Because the Brinwell agent is also a freelancer with a bunch of friends in the church, Eli" Dante growls back, obviously frustrated by your elation.
"Wait, what does that mean?"
"It means if I help you, I'm going to be making enemies in the church before I even get a chance to apply for the executioners. And even if I don't help you, it means you're going to have enemies in the church before I have any sort of influence, meaning, eventually, someone is going to pull some political bullshit and you're going to end up some sort of Church hitlist"

Oh. Well...

A) "Is that why you called me out here? To just tell me what's at stake if I go after this guy?"
B) "Well shit, who is this guy?"

"Well, crap. Dante, dude. I get it" you mutter, reaching out and tapping him on the bicep. "This is your family we're talking about; you can't afford to fuck this up man. I'm not going to ask you to come with me, but if you could just drop a name, that'd be great" you focus on the outside the window, a little embarrassed to meet Dante's gaze.
"Bruh, Fuck outta here with that whack shit!" Dante exclaims, snorting with laughter. Frowning you turn to face him and find he's staring right at you, obviously about to, as he puts it, 'drop some knowledge'.
"Bruh, I'm driving you over there so we can kick this motherfucker's nuts into his nostrils. Da fuck you thought we were gonna be doin'?"
Smirking, you nod appreciatively and begin checking on your gear. You managed to snag a pair of switch blades, a mousegun and your customized full-auto glock. You only have two clips, so if you meet major opposition, you might end up burning through your bullets.
"What can I expect from this guy?"
"Not entirely sure. I only caught wind of him while talking to the guy who's supposed to be handling my integration into the Executors. Apparently, the guy has been working for the Brinwell's for a while, but he's also involved with organized crime; he's some sort of drug runner or something." Dante explains as he pulls to a stop at a red light.
"I got word of a couple of places he might be at...but you're going to have to choose which one we go to"

A) Turn right and head to the guy's hotel; he might be there and even if he's not..you guys could get some clues

"Dante, drive us to Carleton Village, we've got some questions to ask and some heads to crack"
"Hell yeah"
And with that, you and Dante are off, driving west towards Carlos neighborhood. As you drive, you make sure that your vest remains unnoticeable underneath your hoodie. You've tucked your knife into one of your shoes and another into your sleeve. You've placed your mousegun into a pocket and your glock has been separated, with the shoulder stock hanging by it's strap under your armpit and the gun itself tucked between the small of your back and the waist of your pants.

After a few minutes, you and Dante are parked approximately two blocks from the neighborhood and Dante has you standing beside the car "Eli, I need you to stick with me on this. Carlos wants you and he knows more people around here than me. So I need you to stick with me and follow my lead. Got it?"
"Yeah, sure"

And then you two are walking through the streets eyes looking this way and that, Dante nodding at anyone he passes, neither of you wearing an expression even close to smiling. Eventually, however, you notice that you are being followed, there's a young man who has been tailing you for about a block and a half.

Spitting, you hock a glob of saliva and mucus mere inches from the tip of Dante's shoe prompting him to stop and stare at you in wonder. Immediately you hold up both hands and exclaim "My bad" before whispering "We're being followed" and then turning and walking once more, as if nothing had happened. For a moment, Dante lags behind you, but a moment later, he's walking beside you once more swaying with each step and telling you about how 'bitches be trippin'.

"Ay yo, we're turning down here" Dante says as he nudges you towards an alley. Glancing down the alley, you can see that it ends in a dead end and it dawns on you what Dante may have planned. Ducking into the alley, you flatten yourself to the wall as best you can and flip your hood up. At the same time, Dante takes out a switchblade and flicks it open just as the young man who had been following you two takes a peek into the alley. Reaching out, Dante drags the young man into the alley before slamming into the wall beside you. Immediately, you slap a hand over the young man's mouth and the other onto the arm you can reach.

As it turns out, this fellow can't be more than fourteen, but if the length of metal you can feel under his hoodie sleeve is any indication, he is not to be underestimated.

Dante glances at you, obviously unsure of what line of question you may have.

A) "Why are you following us?"
B) "There's a guy who supplies to the MS-13 in this neighborhood, who is he and where can I find him?"
C) "Besides the knife I can feel in your sleeve, what other weapons do you have?"
D) Take your own knife out and stab it through his sleeve and ask "Why and Who? Leave nothing out"

Using your ring and pinkie finger, you tug your switchblade off from your sleeve and flick it open, ignoring the youth's widening eyes you plunge your knife into his sleeve, holding his gaze the entire time. "Who" you whisper, tugging on the knife and splitting the boy's sleeve so his own switchblade clatters to the ground through his now split sleeve. "Why?" you continue, eyebrow raised hand rising from his mouth so he can speak. He immediately begins stammering, but Dante soon slaps his own hand over the boy's mouth, staring into his eyes almost apologetically.
"Look little homie; I know you ain't no snitch, and you know you ain't no snitch. But white boy here is crazy. Just tell him why you tryin' to jump us and you walk home. If you don't, on the real, I'm not getting in his fucking way" and then he lifts his hand away.
"He called Milly, yo" the boy mutters, looking utterly defeated.
"H-he gives us the white, we sell it n' shit. You know, we out here tryin to get that paper"
Frowning, you glance at Dante and he raises an eyebrow. This boy is obviously not Hispanic, and as far as you know, though the MS-13 have become more open-minded regarding who they allow in, they are not quite open to black members just yet.
"Who you reppin', kid?" Dante asks
"The Crips, cuh" the boy even throws up a gang sign, perhaps involuntarily, as he quickly allows his hand to drop to his side again

Realization dawns on you a moment later and you tap your knife on your nail. This 'Milly' guy is double dipping on his sales; he's selling to each and every gang he can. And why would he ever do that? Because he needs bodies.

"Kid, does Milly have tattoos or give them out or something?" you ask

For a moment, the boy looks confused but then he seems to understand what you are asking. "Uhm, yeah, Milly be inkin' niggas"

"What do the tattoos look like?"
"I dunno, shapes n shit. Like, triangles but like, with the end touching and shit, y'know?"

Nodding you tap Dante's arm and whisper "Let the little shit go" and as he follows your instruction, the boy scrambles away, obviously terrified. Frowning, you lean against the alley wall, attempting to make sense of the new information you have. As you contemplate, Dante seems to be staring after the boy as he runs away, but stops suddenly and looks at you.

"We've got company. Looks like Carlos has heard you're in the neighborhood, because he's coming this way with a fucking crew. Looks like ten or eleven fucking guys"

How are you so unlucky, so often?

A) Run down the alley with Dante, if you turn right there should be a tall fence...you MIGHT be able to scale it (Requires a 1d100 Roll)
B) Run out of the alley and down the street; you and Dante run regularly, you should be able to outrun some angry gangbangers
C) Take out your gun and try to summon up your adrenaline. Turn this into a shootout and take them out before they do you in (Requires a 1d100 Roll)
D) Ask Dante to give you a boost, you MIGHT be able to get up to the roof of this building you are leaning against if you both try hard. Dante may not be friendly with Carlos, but you know the two of them don't outright hate one another (Requires a 1d100 Roll)

Grimacing, you tap Dante on the shoulder before flicking your switchblade closed and gesturing towards the street.
"Any chance you're up for a run?"
Dante rolls his eyes and then takes off, leaving you standing there. Immediately, you take off after him, sprinting as fast as you can. You aren't quite fast enough to keep up with Dante, but you're better off than you were when the two of you were running for your lives from the undead. Still, Dante begins pulling ahead of you just as someone shouts something in Spanish behind you. Running after your friend, you follow him down the street before making a sharp turn just as a truck approaches, nearly getting yourself flattened. Ignoring the driver's blaring horn, you and Dante vault a fence and run through someone's open door, into their home. Ignoring the screams and protests, you run through the home until you hit the backdoor and then burst your way out into the backyard, following right behind Dante.

Hopping a neighbor's fence, the two of you begin doubling back, running around the home until you are back on the street and now behind the gangbangers, who have just finished bursting into the home you two just invaded. Stifling a laugh, the two of you sprint with all you have towards the direction you came from. As the two of you run, Dante slows down just enough to be running beside you and, within a minute, the two of you have managed to make it back to his car, both gasping and fairly elated with yourselves.

"Well hotshot, what's the plan now?"

A) Head back to your place and inform Grandpa Eli; whether you like it or not, he's basically the leader of your side of the conflict in this war with the Brinwell
B) Head to this Milly fellow's hotel; see what we can find out about him
C) Head to Grandpa Eli's house and see what you can put together regarding the information Grandpa Eli has in his library about 'Mystic Codes' 'Runes' and junk

The trip over to the hotel doesn't take quite as long as you'd expect, and soon, you and Dante are sitting in the parking lot of a local middle-quality hotel, debating the virtues of going in or staying outside.
"We don't know what this guy looks like, and I only know the alias he uses when he speaks with the church"
"Well, we aren't going to learn anything about this guy sitting out here, talking about him"
"True, but at least we can't get ambushed....easily. We can't get ambushed easily" he corrects himself quickly, as if attempting to ward off some sort of bad luck. Honestly, given your track record, you can't blame him for being superstitious.
The two of you glance at one another and then sigh, both leaning back in your seats as you mull over your individual thoughts. However, you do not have much time to mull before your phone is ringing and after a cursory check, you see that Jessie is attempting to call you.
Frowning, you answer the call and mutter "Hey, I can't really talk right now"
"Oh, no. That works, sure. Just...we really need to talk and whenever you have time would be great"

Well that's foreboding

A) "What do we need to talk about?"
B) "Alright, I'll text you and we can meet up later tonight or something"
C) "On second thought, just tell me what you need to tell me now so I won't worry about it"

"Alright, I'll text you and-" You find yourself cut off by Jessie growling or making some other, similar sort of noise.
"No! Enough. Eli, you always do this. You always stop people from talking to you because you're busy or whatever. And I get it! You have stuff you want or need to do. But...please, this is really, really important too" She sounds distressed, so you stop for a moment and allow her to continue.
"I...need you to drop whatever you're doing and just get to my house. This is probably one of the most important conversations we are ever going to have" And with that she hangs up, leaving you with more questions than answers.

Turning to face Dante, you note that he is looking at you quizzically, obviously expecting you to say something of importance.

A) "Jessie really wants to see me; can you monitor the hotel on your own?"
B) "Screw this waiting stuff; we are going in, we are finding out whatever we can and then you are dropping me off at Jessie's place."
C) "Let's call it a night; can you drop me off at Jessie's instead of my grandpa Eli's place?"
D) "Well....she is gonna be really pissed when I don't show up tonight

"Dude, you were right; bitches be trippin. I need to call it a night and I could really use a lift over to Jessie's." you mutter, as you drop your phone into your lap and begin to shove your equipment into your backpack. You leave your vest on, due to the fact that it simply would not fit into your backpack. Though he does not speak, you can see that Dante is glad to call it a night as he shifts into reverse and smirks at you. "So, in the future, if I want you to listen to reason and give something up, all I gotta do is get you some pussy?" He chuckles at his own humor, even as you punch him lightly in the shoulder.
"But nah, on the real, you and Jessie cool?" he asks as he nears your girlfriend's home.
"I'm not sure..my life is way too odd for me to answer any question like that with any sort of certainty, but I'd like to imagine my relationship with Jessie is one facet that isn't under siege or attack by all the oddity that surrounds me"

Nodding, Dante parks the car and leans back in his seat, staring out the window at Jessie's home. "Well, go in there and make sure your crazy doesn't fuck up what good you got going on" and with a light fist bump, you are out of his car. Taking your phone out, you shoot a text to Jessie, who, instead of answering, simply throws her door open and gestures for you to come in. Frowning, you walk up and, as always take your shoes off at the door. "My parents are gone for the night and my sister is upstairs studying or sleeping or something" she whispers as she drags you along.

Jessie's parents gave her the basement as a studio/bedroom following her first win at some sort of youth art competition. You've only been down there a few times, but it looks pretty cramped, considering how little Jessie does to clean the area. Ignoring the discarded clothes on the ground and the half finished pieces of art she's left about, Jessie leads you to sit on the edge of her bed and then stands in front of you, obviously nervous.

"Eli, this is going to sound really, really crazy, but I need you to listen and take me seriously before you freak out or anything, okay?"
"I don't freak out Jessie. I am easily one of the single most stoic individuals I know. Plus, there isn't much that could freak me out at this point, but please, feel free to do your best"

Jessie rolls her eyes before clapping her hands together nervously and then wiping them on her jean shorts...and then again on her paint splattered t-shirt. "Imantywhzzard" she blabs all at once, tripping over her own words, but staring earnestly at you, as if expecting you to burst out laughing or scream. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. One more time"
Jessie licks her licks before taking a deep breath in and slowly saying
"I am an anti-wizard"

She stares at you expectantly, equal parts worry and anticipation clear on her face.

A) "I have no idea what that's supposed to be; can you elaborate?"
B) "...Like, a dark wizard? Like Voldemort? Or not-Gandalf from Lord of the Rings?"
C) "Oh. Good...I'm not a wizard, so that should work out fine"

"Oh. Well that's good news." You reply, smiling slightly at her obvious confusion. "I'm not a wizard, so this should work out just fine"
At that, Jessie places her fists on her hips and glares at you, obviously less than amused by your flippant comment.
"Stop being snarky"
"I'm sorry; that's not an option. I can tone it down, but there is no off on the snark train"
"Ugh!" she groans and then begins attempting to explain further "So, a couple of weeks ago, some spanish guy was talking to me and then he....did something. He yelled and fire shot out of his hand" At that you sit up straighter, immediately reminded of your fight with Jose. "But, it didn't hurt me. It hit me, it totally did. But it didn't even burn my clothes. And then, I dunno, some guy in a black cape or cloak or something came out of nowhere and they fought and the spanish guy ran off" Jessie takes a moment to consider your expression, but she does not seem to get anything reassuring so she glances away and continues
"Then he took me to your granddad's and he told me...stuff. He told me that he'd look into what happened and that I'd be protected, that he knew what to do....then he made me promise not to tell you. He made me promise because he said they might come back and that you would get hurt if you knew. But you deserve to know....I think I'm involved in some sort of weird, wizard war and you might be in danger because of that." She's started to tear up

"I am SO sorry, Eli. I think...I think they shot Toby because of me"

Sitting her down you give Jessie no time to break down and cry, and, instead keep her distracted with the sheer volume of information you hit her with. Beginning with the basic revelation that her attack was actually a consequence of being seen with you and from there working into the Brinwell War that you have found yourself a part of. She appears to be far less interested in the delicate balance of politics as she does in the information regarding your own heritage as a hybrid of something preternatural. She seems distinctly interested in your claim that a number of Mixed-Blood species find it difficult to maintain a balanced psyche.

"So, yeah, basically, you've been forcibly conscripted in the shitshow my 'Granddad' managed to begin"
"...But, like, Mixed-Bloods...that doesn't mean that one of your parents has to be a monster or whatever, right?"
"I don't think monster is the appropriate term, Jessie, but no. Technically speaking, Mixed-Blood refers to any mixture of human and something not. So, you could be 1/64th 'demon' or whatever, and it would count"
"...I see"

She seems notably relieved at that revelation and is smiling softly to herself.

"Why do you ask, anyhow"

At that, Jessie looks a bit like a trapped animal before she visibly steels herself and says

"Because....your granddad thinks I might be some sort of Dragon 'Mixed-Blood' "

Why does gramps still consider us a disappointment?
>>
>>40211365
The last that Eli heard regarding that matter, while Eli's psychic ability and the combination of abilities he has retained impressed him, he's still immensely disappointed that he is essentially just a human.

On the other hand, his siblings supposedly lack any sort of psychic abilities, but are pre-pubescent supermen.
>>
>>40211422
So basically gramps was prioritizing short term gains vs our potentially large long term ones.
