A somewhat impatient sigh escapes your lips at the lack of direct comparisons of the two rifles on the panels before setting down the boxes of ammunition and pulling your codex tablet from its spot on your hip. You tap in a search for reviews and comparisons between the firearms on the extranet, your small amount of frustration easing as your search turns up quite a few hits. It doesn't take you long to scan over the various recommendations before you come away feeling like you've probably got a pretty decent idea of what you're looking at.

From what you've gathered the HK-49 is known for its' firepower, general reliability, and modification potential, though you did notice that there were a few reviews that noted that over either long periods of time or after putting too many rounds downrange at once the barrel has been known to warp just enough to reduce accuracy by a noticeable margin. Comparatively the N-53 is purported to be reliably accurate once its' sights are adjusted, as well as being more suited to close-quarters combat where the HK-49 falls somewhat short due to the fact that its' compacting mechanisms are widely known to be unable to take more than a handful of direct strikes before malfunctioning, though obviously the cheaper rifle's firepower is less impressive. It would appear that tougher components for the mechanisms are being implemented, but are still relatively rare outside of major galactic trade centers.

After making sure that you aren't overlooking anything else, you kill the search and slide your tablet back into its' spot. With a little more information on the rifles you figure that it should be a little easier to make an educated decision on whether you want to invest in more firepower and the ability to make aftermarket modifications or forgo those for the simple benefits of reliability and ruggedness.

What do you want to do?
>Buy the HK-49. The issues with the barrel are a very distant problem, and are outweighed by the benefits of the firepower.

Wow Hawk, once again, running right in the middle of my work day. You know, if I didn't love you and this quest so much I would be really upset. But I do, so I'm not, I'll catch up once I get off, hopefully you'll still be here.

Finally, after debating over it for much longer than you'd planned to, you decide that if you're going to drop any more money on weapons then you might as well get the HK-49. With that in mind you take one last look at the ammo that it takes before heading to the check out counter, making sure to grab a small crate of one-hundred rounds for the rifle as you do so. The alien at the counter offers you a somewhat bored look as you set your rounds down in front of him before punching them into the scanner. "Will that be all for you, sir?"

You shake your head at the question before gesturing behind him to a case similar to the one that you were looking at earlier, "No, I'd like to buy one of your assault rifles too, the HK-49."

A strange expression crosses the clerk's face at your decision and, while you can't be sure, you think that it might be distaste, judging by the curt way that the alien turns to grab one of the rifles from the case. "Store policy is that you have to sign a release form any time that you buy a weapon, as well as submit to a biometrics scan." She tells you, while setting the rifle down with the rest of your purchases. You nod in response, simultaneously surprised and glad that you're able to purchase the weapon with such little hassle. "Is there anything else I can do for you?"

You start to shake your head before remembering your flamethrower, "Actually, I was wondering if you had any naplam or something similar to it behind the counter? I couldn't find it anywhere else in the store.

The blinks in confusion at your question, a strange sight on a face with four eyes, "Naplam? I don't really know what that is..." She starts to say, before you shake your head at yourself.

"That's right, sorry about that. Um...do you have any fuel for flamethrowers or something like that back there? It's a sort of jelly-like fuel."
[Continued.]
>>
>>40221261
A look of comprehension dawns on her face as she quickly nods before shaking her head, "We do have it, but it's expensive...five-hundred credits per canister, and you'll have to submit to another biometrics scan for it as well." She tells you, somewhat hesitantly.

You wince a little at the price, though you're not too terribly surprised at it being expensive, after all you doubt that it's something that's sold too commonly. Still, it might be best to stock up now...it sounds like with a full canister you'd be able to replace the fuel for your flamethrower once its' completely out.

Do you want to buy the fuel?
>Yes, it's worth the price.
>No, you've got plenty left for now.

"Well, as much as I hate to spend that much money on it, I should probably go ahead and stock up anyways." You reply, offering her a somewhat reluctant smile while she nods and ducks under the counter to grab a canister of the fuel. "Actually, I was wondering if I might be able to ask you another question."

She glances curiously up at you from her crouched position before rising up and setting the canister onto the counter, very gently you note. "Well, you're welcome to ask I guess. I can't promise a good answer though." She replies cautiously.

You cock an eyebrow at her answer before shrugging and pushing forward, "Well, earlier when you were getting the rifle, it seemed like you weren't all that impressed with it. All the reviews I saw on the extranet said it was fairly reliable, but is there something wrong with it aside from the issue with the barrel?"

"Oh! Well...the HK-49 is a decent enough assault rifle, aside from the warping issue that you mentioned, it's just...not what I would go with." She tells you, clearly surprised at your question, though offering you a small smile, "I mean, it's really only suited for medium rangers...obviously the issues with the fragile components mean that it's a liability in close combat and the warping in the barrel actually starts a little earlier than most people realize...meaning that long range accuracy isn't the greatest either."

Sheeeeiiiittt even in the not so far future HK got fucking G36 troubles
>>
>>40222120
Are there any aftermarket parts available to correct these issues? Even if it was fine for our exposition it would be a annoying to have to get a new gun after, as opposed to just paying for better parts without said issues.
>>
>>40222513
Indeed, or getting a different gun altogether.

I'm all for getting the best thing that we can mod to no end, but getting a Space-AK also has its merits.

If there are too many downsides to it then we might consider looking at the sniper rifles instead.
>>
>>40222120
You blink in surprise, glancing back down at the rifle on the counter with significantly less admiration than earlier, before turning your gaze back to her, "In that case, what would you recommend, if it's got that many problems?"

The girl's growing smile falters a little at the question, "Honestly, the bad thing is that the 49 actually IS the best assault rifle we've got in stock out here. If we were closer to Me'ghan or any of the other galactic trade centers really then it wouldn't be a problem, but we're still getting established out here. I'm afraid that unless you want to buy a rifle from a private dealer or have one custom made then this is probably the best you're going to get right now. Usually you're looking at close to two-thousand credits for a custom rifle, if not more. Quality components cost more than I'd like to admit, and it's not something that Antusyac Arms officially endorses." She replies with an apologetic look before glancing around cautiously and continuing quietly, "I'm actually not supposed to do this, I could lose my job if somebody found out, but if you're looking for something higher quality then I might be able to find or make you something. It'll take a while though."

Well that sounds...interesting. It looks like unless you want to wait for a while, and probably pay an arm and a leg for it, the HK-49 is your best bet right now. Of course if you're willing to wait until after you get back you could order a custom weapon, under the table apparently. Alternatively you could just buy the HK now and have her go ahead and make you a rifle too. It's not like you're going to be paying her until you see the other weapon anyway.

You lean forward over the counter, resting your weight on your arms as you think before nodding, "Alright...I think that I'll go ahead and take you up on that offer. I'll be out in the ruins for a while though, so I still need something else until I get back." You tell her, drawing a triumphant, if somewhat cautious grin from the alien as she leans in as well.

"In that case, I'll make sure to send you my contact info." She replies all four of her eyes seeming to shine in barely contained excitement, "So, are you still wanting to buy the HK for now, or did you want something a little cheaper?"

You shake your head at the question, "I think I'll just go with the N-53 for now. It seems like that should work well enough for me for now." You reply, receiving a quick nod from her as she exchanges the rifles and starts to ring them up on the scanner while you head back to exchange the rifle ammo you previously had for the proper rounds.

As soon as you get back and she rings in your new ammunition she taps one final button with a bright smile, "Alright, looks like your total comes up to one-thousand-ten credits."

You start to reach into your pocket to grab your credit chit, though you can't help but wonder if you might be able to cut down the price a little bit...after all, even if you can manage to sell the N-53 back to her later you're almost certainly not going to get the same price you're paying for it. On the other hand, considering all that you're buying, it really isn't all that much and it's not like you can't afford it right now.

You hesitantly hand over your credit chit to her offering her a small, pained smile as you do so, "Look, I understand completely if you can't do this, but is there any way that I could get a little bit of a discount on this? I understand the prices for the fuel and the ammo, but I mean...it's not exactly top of the line is it? Isn't there some kind of deal for customers that spend a certain amount or something?"

The clerk just barely stops short of scanning your chit, blinking at you in surprise at the question before shifting somewhat uncomfortably, "There's not really any kind of discount like that here, I guess that bigger orders sometimes get it but those are usually between different corps. I do get a small employee discount once a month, but I usually use it for buying different components..." She replies clearly conflicted about whether or not she should have mentioned that. You start to shake your head, about to just go ahead have her scan your chit before she lets out a small sigh, "I guess that I could make an exception this time though. After all, you're right about the rifle, and I'll more than make it back with your order anyways." She concedes, leaving you blinking in surprise.

"Are you sure you want to do that? I didn't mean to-" You start to say, shaking your head, only to be interrupted by the clerk.

"Oh, it's okay. Like I said, I'll definitely make back the loss with your order. Besides, you've been more interesting than most of the customers I get through here. Usually they just demand that they already know what they want and ignore anything I have to say." She replies with a smile before punching in something else on her screen and scanning your chit. You notice her blinking down curiously at the screen while the payment processes.

"Jack Yarrick...what a strange name." She mutters quietly before blinking up at you with a smile and handing you back your chit and bagging everything except for your rifle, which she simply hands to you as you carefully rearrange your other purchases from today to accommodate the new ones as well as sling the rifle across your back, much to the alien's amusement. "I'll make sure to send you my contact info once I get off, my name is Samira, I'm sure you'll recognize it."

"I'm glad we got to talk, Samira. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for it." You tell her with a smile, offering her a somewhat awkward handshake as you continue to try and balance your purchases, much to her amusement.

"So am I, Jack, I look forward to talking to to you later." She replies politely, before turning her attention towards Reece as he approaches the counter, with a significantly smaller amount of ammunition in his hands. "Will this be all for you?" She asks, lapsing back into a more professional manner.

The swordsman shakes his head, following many of the same lines as you did as he points out the submachine gun that he wants, while you nod to him.

"I'm gonna go ahead and head out, Reece. I still need to pick up the rest of my stuff and get back to the hotel, honestly I probably need my own taxi with the crate gravity sled anyway." You tell him, waiting to receive a nod from him in return before turning to leave the store.

You do your best to hurry along the hallway towards the boardroom that you met Tanis' representative in yesterday, doing your best to wipe the sweat from your face as you do so. Between the heat, hauling all of your purchases back to the stall that you bought your crate and gravity sled from, and then trying to fit the sled in and out of the taxi without damaging it you've found yourself tired, hot, and above all else, running late.

Finally you manage to make it to the door that leads into the board room and, with one last attempt to make yourself look half-way presentable, you enter the room and quietly try to insert yourself with the rest of your friends around the table, not that you're particularly successful in going unnoticed given the small nature of the meeting.

As you slide into an open seat between Angel and Freida you're met with the level gaze of what you can only assume is the leader of the meeting, a tall pale-skinned and heavily augmented K'tulu, "Doctor Yarrick, I presume?" He asks in decidedly disapproving tone.

You nod in response, your lips forming a thin line as he singles you out, though to be fair you can't exactly blame him, "Yes, sorry I'm late." You reply mainly to him, though you also offer an apologetic look towards Angel as well, who you notice looks a little frustrated at your late arrival as well.

The alien holds his gaze on you for several moments, as if gauging your sincerity before nodding in acceptance, "I suggest that you make an effort to be on time next time, Doctor. I'm more forgiving than many of my colleagues, I would hate for you to give your species a bad reputation before they're even FTL-capable." He replies, before finally lifting his gaze from you and moving back towards the center of the room, gesturing towards the table's holo-display as he moves.

You feel a small amount of frustration well up inside of you at the thinly veiled insult, though you manage to swallow it back down as the K'tulu resumes speaking. "Seeing as how everybody is now present, I am Lieutenant Nueve, I spent fifteen years in the K'tulu Imperial Marines and have spent another four years as an officer of Antusyac Arms' Corporate Security. I'm the leader of the platoon that you will be attached to for the duration of the expedition, which means you will be under my command as well. I'm not going to lie to you, Humans, I'm not a fan of freelance mercenaries...they're often times unreliable and untrustworthy, but for some reason Mr. Tanis is convinced that you're worth his time and money."

As you glance around the room you get the impression that you're hardly the only one of your friends that is biting back a frustrated retort as Nueve pauses to look over your group before continuing, "At any rate, that's not important right now. What is important is the expedition. At exactly zero-five-hundred hours tomorrow morning your team will report to Junqo Space Port for accountability with B company, second platoon. Once accountability and pre-mission checks are finished you will board a shuttle with the platoon that will carry us out to a landing zone approximately six kilometers into the ruins. From there we will meet up with the rest of B company, as well as a mechanized augmentation unit to continue further into the unexplored territory of the ruins. Any questions so far?" The lieutenant pauses to glance over your group, waiting in silence for an answer before nodding and continuing.

"Our target destination is a military bunker that is approximately another seven kilometers into the city, with any luck we'll be able to make the trip in a day but I won't be at all surprised if it takes two. By the time we reach the bunker A company will have hopefully managed to crack the first level of security and we'll be able to make camp at the entrance before heading in. From there, we're on simple orders. All we have to do is explore the bunker and gather tech and information until we clear it out, if at all possible. We'll have the same trip back that we had on the way out there, only in reverse. All in all, the expedition should be fairly simple. Now, does anybody have any questions? Now would be the time to ask them, rather than wait until we get out there."

It seems like the brief was fairly straightforward, all things considered. In fact it may have been a little bit too straightforward...you noticed that he didn't say anything about why Tanis needed so many guns on hand. Granted, the businessman told you himself that raiders and beasts were a possible issue going in, but that still doesn't really tell you why you would need two companies as well as an augmentation unit, whatever the hell that's supposed to be. Additionally, you're not sure if there's anything in particular that you're supposed to be looking for, or if you're even going to have time to pick through the actual city ruins for any salvage rather than just heading straight for the bunker. Then again, if he didn't think that these things were important enough to mention, then maybe you're just over thinking things...

You lean back in your seat, eyeing the holo-display as you turn over a few questions in your head, before sitting up straight again and catching Nueve's attention, "Yes, Doctor?"

Most of your group turns to look at you while you gesture to the holo-display in a small amount of confusion, "I have a couple of questions, actually." You start, waiting for the lieutenant to nod at you before continuing, "Well, first off, why the hell are we stopping so far out from the bunker? I understand that it's not really that far, but unless we have a completely clear path there, or are going to stop to salvage in the rest of the ruins it seems like it would make more sense to just stay in the shuttle the entire time." You offer, drawing a nod of agreement from both Angelicia and Freida while Tom and Abigail turn their attention back to the display for a moment while you continue, "Aside from that, I was wondering what kind of resistance we might end up having if we're going out there on foot. Isn't two entire companies plus a team of freelancers a bit much if you're not worried about being attacked?"

The K'tulu's head cocks just a little to the side in a combination of interest and frustration as the bioluminescent markings on his forehead glow dimly, "I...suppose that is a fair question." He replies slowly, seeming to think about his answer for a few moments before nodding, "The landing zone is where it is for safety precautions, the anti-air defenses are still very active and very effective, as we've had the misfortune of discovering in the past. As for any opposition on the way out, I expect it to be minimal which is why I didn't mention it before. It is possible that we could run into bandits or other expedition teams from rival corporations...typically Mister Tanis prefers us to avoid engaging rival teams unless they attack us first, but in this case he's given permission to open fire on sight."

You blink in surprise at that revelation, noting that the rest of your group seems both surprised and somewhat uneasy at it as well, though Nueve pushes forward, "I don't know why he's changed his stance, but personally I'd still prefer to avoid any conflict if we can. Beyond that, all we really have to worry about are the typical fauna you'd find elsewhere on Velik Leis. Again, though, the threat of that should be minimal due to A company's recent movement through the area...which also means that we're unlikely to find any worth-while salvage during the movement. You're welcome to pursue salvage operations on the way out if you want, as long as you don't break too far away from the main group, but I doubt you'll find anything extraordinary."

You nod slowly, momentarily wondering whether or not you're really going to get everything that you thought you would out of this, only to be torn from your thoughts as Angel speaks up next, "If the anti-air defenses are still working, what other kind of defenses can we expect in the bunker?" She asks, fixing the alien with a stern look, "You're not going to tell me that something as power-intensive as AA guns are active when nothing else is."

Reece nods in agreement with the mechanic, eyeing the Lieutenant suspiciously, "That's a good point, actually I'm still wondering what exactly this bunker is supposed to have inside of it that's so important?"

Nueve's markings flash brightly for a moment before he seems to calm himself down with a deep breath, "I don't appreciate your tone, Human." He replies with just barely contained contempt before continuing, "That said, it's a good question, and one that I wish I had a solid answer to. I honestly have no idea what makes this bunker any different than the others we've cracked in the past, but apparently Mister Tanis seems to think that it holds something valuable, and that will have to be good enough for now. As for what kind of resistance to expect once we get inside, past experience tells us that synthetic enemies are likely, assuming that any alarms are tripped. There have also been scattered reports of...less than ethical genetic experiments on the local fauna taking hold of a bunker, though I've been lead to believe that those reports came from research stations, rather than military strongholds. Personally, I hope that we can avoid either, but it would be wise to expect both. I'm sure that we'll have more information once we actually reach the site."

Despite the thick tensions and derogatory way that Nueve's been referring to your group leading you all to bristle slightly, you still nod in understanding at the information. It looks like whatever you might find in the bunker is somewhat of an unknown...you're unsure how you feel about that. Obviously it opens up plenty of opportunity for profit, but you also don't like the idea of walking into something that you're not completely prepared for either. "That's about all the information that I have for you on that, Humans, I wish I had more for you. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them, but I can't guarantee that I'll have any more satisfying answers for you."

Do you have any more questions?"

Well thats most of the stuff, I guess.

What we need to make sure of is that the exploration team has gas masks and air supply and we need some EMP rounds or AP rounds to take on the mechanicals. The N-53 will probably be useful. Not sure if the shotgun rounds are buckshot though. In any case, one for mechanicals, one for biologicals. and flamers in case we come across some Flood analog. I think we'll be ok.

A somewhat awkward silence falls over the room everybody glances at each other, waiting for another question before Nueve nods curtly. "Good...like I said earlier, accountability is a zero-five-hundred hours. Be there on time or not at all." He says, emphasizing the last sentence as he locks his gaze on you before continuing, "Additionally, if you do not already have one it would be wise for you to invest in an oxygen mask or environmental suit for penetrating the ruins. It would be...unfortunate if you were to fall victim to any fungal or bacterial life that may have spread in there, particularly in the presence of any biological threats. Aside from that, you're free to go. I will see you tomorrow morning."

With that the K'tulu swipes his hand at the holo-display one last time before turning on his heel and making as quick of an exit from the board room as he can manage, leaving your filter out of the room after him, "What an asshole..." Angel grumbles tiredly while Abigail and Reece nod behind her in agreement.

"What else would you expect? 'E is K'tulu...zey are all assoles." She mutters angrily.

"You can say that again." Reece agrees, leaving you to shake your head with a sigh.

"Not all of them...but it definitely seems like a defining trait for them." You reply shortly, drawing a surprised look from several members of your group while Freida nods in agreement with you.

"The doctor is right. I'm sure that we've just seen the worst side of their culture." The Israeli interjects before shrugging, "Either way, I am going to go back to my room and finish packing. Tomorrow is going to be a long day."

Most of your friends nod in agreement, though you note that Tom says something about the Dancing Vine instead while Angelicia and Abigail simply shrug tiredly, "I would like to go to bed, but I need to finish shopping before ze stores all close." The redhead sighs.

You feel weary at the thought of another shopping trip, though you have to admit that the thought had crossed your mind since the revelation of the possibility of synthetic enemies, maybe investing in some defenses against that threat in particular would be worth the trip, though it'd have to be a very fast one. Then again, you really would rather not head back to the market if you can avoid it...and you do have a decent stock of weapons as it is, maybe you're over thinking this. With that thought in mind you turn to look at Angel, the only other person left in the group aside from Abi, "What about you?"

The mechanic offers you a tired smile, doing her best to look mischievous, though the addition of dark circles under her eyes detract from the image somewhat, "I think that I'm going to go buy some booze and head back to my room to make sure that everything's in order before passing out drunk. Wanna join me?" She asks, waggling her eyebrows at you, drawing a quiet laugh from both you and Abi despite the tiredness obvious on both of your faces.

"That is an attractive invitation." You admit, gaining a full smirk from the punk girl while Abi lets out a belabored sigh.

"You are aware zat I am still 'ere, right? Admittedly, I feel less inclination to stay by ze minute, but still." The French girl prods teasingly, drawing both yours and the mechanic's attention back to her.

Angel lets out a soft laugh before shrugging again, "You're welcome to join us if you want, Abi, I'm sure that Jack wouldn't mind you tagging along either."

A small amount of color spreads across Abi's face, though she simply rolls her eyes in response, shaking her head, "No, I zink zat I will pass. Besides, like I said, I still need to pick up a few zings from ze market."

Both of you nod in understanding, before the punk girl turns her attention back to you again, "What about you, Doc? You gonna come keep me company?" She asks with an inviting smile.

Admittedly, that really is a tempting offer and you'd like to accept, though you also have to admit that it might be a better idea to just go ahead and head back to your room to pack up your gear, or maybe head back into the market with Abi for just a few minutes to grab something specifically geared towards synthetics...even if you do already have plenty of firepower.

What do you want to do?
>Accept her invitation. Why not? It may be the last chance you have to relax for a little bit, and it's not like you don't have enough ammo or can't pack what's left of your gear tomorrow. It's mostly in the crate anyways.
>Head out with Abi. You'll have to keep this short, but it may be a good idea to be extra prepared...just in case.

Actually, instead of anti-robot weapons, I was thinking of going to the gardening supplies section to pick up anti-fungals and weedkillers, as well as some extra filters and air-tight sealing tape.

The mention of genetically engineered fungi and biological weapons is concerning.
>>
>>40229513

All of it would be good. I wonder though if the medical supplies we picked up have stuff like that in the kit, already.

You consider your options for a few moments before shaking your head with a tired sigh, "As tempting as your offer is, Angel, I think that I should probably go with Abi. I don't know about you guys, but I didn't really take synthetics into account when I was stocking up. As much as I hate to head back out again, it's probably better to be prepared." You reason.

Abi blinks in surprise at your decision to come with her while Angel nods in understanding, "Fair enough, I guess that I'll just have to drink alone tonight." She replies teasingly, leaving you to roll your eyes in response as does her best to imitate Lizzy's pouting face.

"Cute, but the punk getup kind of kills it." You tell her, drawing an amused laugh from her before she shrugs.

"I knew I should have kept my hair longer." She sighs dramatically, before shaking her head and turning to leave, "Alright, I'll see you guys in the morning. Make sure he doesn't do anything stupid, please, Abi...we'd be SOL without our medic."

The French girl smirks at your somewhat offended expression at that as she nods and starts to lead the way towards the taxi terminal, "I'll keep zat in mind." She replies with a short laugh.

You shake your head in disappointment at her answer, doing your best to adopt an affronted look at her, "And here I thought that I could count on you." You say with a disappointed sigh, even as your smile threatens to break through again.

"Are you saying zat I should allow you to do somezing idiotic instead?" Abigail asks with a teasing innocence before slowing to a stop and hailing a taxi with the console.

"How often have I done stupid things since you've known me?" You retort, before shrugging, "Besides, maybe if I did something stupid then I'd learn a valuable lesson...or something cliched like that."

The redhead rolls her eyes at your response, "It seems more likely zat you would just get yourself shot instead, and zen I would 'ave to 'ave you teach me first aid. And ze blood would ruin my new dress."

You consider her answer for a few seconds before finally shrugging and deciding to concede the point as you sit back in your seat and let the relative silence of the evening wash over you. By the time that your shuttle manages to make it through the traffic the sun has almost set, its' light replaced by the cool artificial lights of the markets. The district has a distinctly calmer feel to it during the evening hours than it does during the midday rush. Many of the stalls have already closed for the night, though you note that the light of the planet's two moons seems to have brought out a small handful of apparently nocturnal shop owners in their place.

While you look over the markets your redheaded friend finally pulls herself from the taxi and steps up next to you, "It is beautiful, don't you zink?" She asks quietly while you nod before turning your attention back to her, only to see her already looking at you again, "So, where do you zink we should go first, Doctor? I am 'oping zat ze stall zat I wanted to visit earlier is still open, but if you want to go somewhere else first, I'd be okay wiz zat."

You consider her question for a moment, glancing back out to the marketplace again as you do so. You might be able to find something interesting in the market stalls again, though to be honest you were mostly planning on just getting supplies to use against the synthetics, something that you expect would probably be found fairly easily at Antusyac Arms, or maybe at Pat'que's if his shop is still even open at this hour.

You offer Abi a small smile before shrugging, "We can check out whatever you want to look at first, I'm sure the gun store will stay open for a while longer."

The French girl returns your smile with a bright one of her own before leading the way down towards the market stalls, "Zank you, Jack. I promise I will not take long." She replies gratefully

"Don't worry about it, Abi." You say as trail beside her, "I'm not too worried about it, just as long as we find what we're looking for."

She nods in understanding as she starts to make her way through the stalls purposefully, clearly knowing where she's going. It doesn't take her too long before she finds what she was apparently looking for, considering that it's the only stand on this row that's still open at this hour. As the two of you approach it, you realize that the shop owner must have been keeping the stall open specifically for the French girl, if the way that his eyes light up are any indication. "I am very pleased that you chose to return to my shop, Miss Legodiana." The somewhat bloated-looking alien says happily.

Abi smiles brightly at him, "Of course, I said I would, didn't I? I 'ope zat you managed to find one in my size zough..." She says while your eyes fall to what looks like a variety of different sizes and styles of breathing masks spread out across the stall's table. With the mystery of what your friend was looking for solved, your interest wanes in favor of glancing around at the rest of mostly deserted marketplace.

You notice a small handful of stalls that are still open, including the one that was selling gadgets earlier, though it would appear that somebody different is working it now, you also notice that the twitchy owner of the 'remedies' stand is still working in addition to a new stall that appears to be dedicated to growing and selling a variety of plants and fungi, though you're not sure what good something like that would do you right now.

Finally, you're pulled from your thoughts as Abi taps you on the shoulder and offers you a bright smile as well as a view of her purple-tinted breathing mask and apparel, "Isn't it cute?" She asks brightly.

"Well it's...appropriate for you." You concede with a grin, drawing a small pout from the French girl before she shrugs.

"Well, zat is all zat I really needed from, 'ere, Jack. I'm ready to go whenever you are."

Huh...you'd honestly expected her to get at least a little bit more, though you suppose that if the only thing she needed was a breathing mask then you can't exactly complain. You wonder briefly if you should check out any of the other stalls before heading over to Antusyac Arms, though you're not sure that you would find anything of worth at any of them.

What do you want to do?
>Check out the stall with the gadgets. Maybe with a new shopkeeper there'll be new products.

"Actually, I think I'm going to check out the gardening stand first." You tell Abi, leading her to blink at you in absolute confusion as you lead the way to the next row of stalls.

"But...why would you want-" She starts to ask, only for you to cut her off before she can finish the question.

"I just want to see if they have any anti-fungal spray or something like that." You tell her, glancing back one more time to make sure that she's following you, only to see that she doesn't seem to be any less confused than before. "I may not like the Lieutenant, Abi, but he did have a point about the possibility of fungus in the bunker. I'd rather not take the risk of having something as nasty as that kind of infection if I can avoid it."

The French girl finally nods as you reach the stand, though whether she actually understands how bad a fungal infection could be or not is still up for debate as the nocturnal shopkeeper's mouth splits into a wide grin, "Hello, little ones, how can I help you this evening?" The large alien asks, a slight sense of unease crossing over you at the somewhat predatory look in her eye, though you do your best to ignore the feeling as you return her smile.

"I was actually wondering if you had any fungicides, or maybe some creams or other types of medications if you don't have that?" You ask politely, even as the redhead next to you shifts uncomfortably.

The towering alien lets out a low hum, leaning back a little as it stares down at you before finally speaking up again in its raspy voice, "I do have some fungicide in stock...as for the medical supplies, I'm afraid that I can't help you there, little one." She tells you, before letting out another hum, "I am curious as to why you might need it though...infestations of fungi is rare on this colony."

You look back up at the alien, cautiously weighing your response before shrugging, "I'm going to be heading into the ruins west of here soon, and I'd rather be prepared than end up needing it while I'm out there." You admit, before continuing in as convincing of a tone as you can muster, "Honestly I doubt that we'll find anything at all, with the way that people have been talking, but maybe we'll get lucky."

The shopkeeper looks down at you carefully for several moments before nodding in understanding and letting out a raspy laugh, "I see...you're smart, little one. It is always best to be prepared than to be caught unaware, especially in as dangerous a place as the ruins." She says, before motioning towards a small collection of tubes kept separated from the rest of the products on the stand, "I can sell you what you want, but you should know that it is very toxic to most species as well. Fifty credits for the poison, and another twenty for the dispenser if you would like that as well."

You take a moment to look over the fungicide, as well as the sprayer that the shopkeeper indicated. It looks like the dispenser is a relatively cheap model, but it would probably do the job and the same could definitely be said of the poison as well. It looks like this is all that you're going to find here, unless you're actually interested in buying gardening supplies.

"Alright, so what kind of treatment should I administer if somebody else comes into contact with it?" You ask as you reach into your pocket for your credit chit, "Is there anything I can do for somebody who inhales it aside from moving them to fresh air and hoping they turn out okay?"

The shopkeeper pauses for a moment to consider the question before shaking her head and accepting your chit, "That is about all you can hope for, I am afraid. If they stop breathing then you could give them artificial respiration, but truthfully they will probably die. The same can be said for those that swallow it, sipping water is the best treatment for them, if they're able to do so. Aside from that I am not entirely sure. As for getting it on their skin, they should be okay as long as it is washed off immediately and their contaminated clothes are stripped as well...they could form blisters or rashes, depending on the species, but they should survive." She tells you, before scanning your credit chit and handing it back to you while you pick up the tube of poison and the dispenser. "Is there anything else I can do for you, little one?"

You shake your head, offering her one last smile before turning to go, "No, but thanks for your help." You reply, before making your way away from her stand with Abi.

Once the two of you are out of the shopkeeper's earshot the French girl lets out a quiet shudder, "Please tell me zat I am not ze only one zat zought zat she was creepy."

You shake your head while leading her out onto the road to Antusyac Arms, "You definitely weren't the only one." You reply with an understanding nod, "But I got what I needed, and hopefully it won't take too long to find what I'm looking for here either." >Fifty rounds of armor piercing rounds of the N-53 for one-hundred-twenty credits. Do you want more than one case?

These two are the same??

Also, what type of shells are our shotgun loaded with? Slugs or buck?
>>
>>40232145
Isn't it kind of dumb to buy the EMP pistol ammo in the first place? Our pistol already has a setting for it...I guess it might make it a little more powerful though.
>>
>>40232165
I just noticed that as well. The bottom one is supposed to be EMP ammo for the rifle. Also, you've been using slugs for your shotgun.
>>
>>40232166
>I guess it might make it a little more powerful though.
I was thinking that, and maybe we could jury-rig some EMP rounds into a sort of EMP grenade.

I could change it to 1 case of N-53 EMP rounds instead.
>>
Alright, looks like the most popular answer right now is for two cases of EMP slugs and two cases of armor piercing rounds for your rifle.

>>40232183
Pistol EMP x1
N-53 AP x 2
N-53 EMP x 2

N-53 should use a cartridge system right? That means switching ammo should be quick. That can leave us with the Shotgun as the go to against any biological enemies.
>>
>>40232211
Since we didn't know that the bottom one was N-53 EMP rounds, can we get 2 cases of that as well?
>>
>>40232211
hawk, you're closing the vote after giving us wrong choices...
>>
>>40232226
>>40232229
You make a valid point. Sorry about that. I'll go ahead and extend the vote for another five minutes to compensate.
>>
>>40232056
>>40232244
Old vote deleted.
New vote:
2x Case EMP Slug
2x Case EMP N-53 Rounds
2x Case AP N-53 Rounds
>>
>>40232287
Seconded.

x2 Case EMP Slug
x2 Case EMP N-53 Rounds
x2 Case AP N-53 Rounds
>>
Alright, it looks like two of each excluding the pistol rounds win out.

>Writing for real this time.
>>
>>40232244
>>40232287
Sounds good.

We should have enough cartridges for both. Load AP on N-53, EMP on pistol first in.

We run into things that are abit resistance to AP, we swap to an EMP mag.

It takes you several minutes of internal debate before you finally decide to just get two of each case of the rifle and shotgun, as well as a single case of pistol ammo, reasoning that being able to pack an extra punch against synthetics may be a good idea if you end up having to fall back to your pistol. With that in mind you and Abi both grab the cases from the shelves and head up towards the counter again. "Hello Jack, Abigail, I didn't expect to see either of you again tonight." She greets you with a smile.

You shrug and offer the clerk a tired smile, "Neither did I, honestly. But I'd rather be make sure that I'm prepared for anything we might find than end up needing it later." You reply as you both set the cases down in front of her to scan.

The four-eyed alien nods enthusiastically in understanding, "I understand completely, you never know what you might find out there." She says while ringing up your purchases, "Actually I would have recommended that you go ahead and buy some EMP grenades as well, but I just sold the last box we had in stock to some Z'ho'don with a bad attitude...guess that kind of describes most of the Z'ho'don that I get in here, actually, but you get the point. Alright, that'll come up to eight-hundred-fifty credits. I wish I could give you another discount, but I'm afraid that you used up the last of what I had left for the month earlier."

You feel a little guilty at that revelation, though clearly Samira doesn't seem to mind too much as she scans your chit and hands it back to you while she bags your purchases. "Thanks, Samira, I wish I could stay to talk for a while but I really need to get going." You tell her as she slides the bags towards you with a smile.

"Alright, well like I said, I'll talk to you later anyways. I'll wait until tomorrow to shoot you my info since it's getting to be so late, but I promise that you'll have it soon!" The enthusiastic clerk tells you, before waving as the two of you make your way out of the store and back towards the taxi terminal in a comfortable silence. Thankfully, at this time of night it doesn't take long at all to catch a ride back to the hotel. As the night lights flash by you're left wondering what things will be like in the morning, a thought that continues to plague you even as you and Abi go your separate ways so that you can finish packing your gear and head to bed.

Alright guys, sorry to do this to you after I promised that so recently, but it's time for me to get some sleep, it's 2:40 in the morning here. If the thread is still alive when I wake up then I'll continue here, otherwise I'll start up Episode 15.5 in the morning. We WILL get to the ruins and start genuinely exploring the city, if not the bunker within Episode 15. I refuse to accept any other course of events.

Thanks for running Hawktail.

Boy, we've really spent alot on gear and weapons.
>>
Thanks for running, Hawk. Get some sleep and come back to us soon!

>>40232711
Yeah, we definitely have, I just hope that it's worth it.
>>
>>40232711
I'm sure we'll make it back in the ruins. And even if we don't we're well stocked on ammo and have a basic setup of weapons, and have a custom rifle lined up to go. Our armor may be outdated, but it's got enough extra shit on it to make up for it. I just can't wait until we actually get really good armor and can transfer the shit that we have on this armor to that one.

Plus all the medical shit and that shield dome? We're gonna be the best medic ever...unless we die right out the gate. Hope that doesn't happen. Or if we get one of our people killed or something...that would suck too.

We also have a floating stretcher.

The hovercart will do as one. Heh.
