"So..." You wring your hands nervously as you sit in a private terminal at Rutherford Airport. Your father, who you have just found after being absent for practically your entire life was sitting right next to you, and you didn't even know what to say to him! However, judging from the troubled look on his face, he seemed to be having the same problem, as well.

Meanwhile, the tarmac outside was a flurry of activity. True to her promise, Samantha arranging to have the recovered Trinity warheads properly disposed of.

"After sitting in that dusty barn for a couple decades, they're probably duds now anyways." She said to you nonchalantly when she arrived on the scene. However, you couldn't help but respect how she's gone out of her way to help you out on this. You can't imagine her bosses would be happy if they found out she let such powerful weapons slip through their fingers.

"So..." Dad says awkwardly.

There's a moment of silence between you two as you both shuffle around nervously. Maybe you did have quite a lot in common with him.

"So, what are you going to do now?" You ask, looking at your father directly. "Are you going to go home?"

"Well, the farm's still intact, and with the warheads gone, I doubt those guys will be coming back."

"That's not the home I meant, Dad." You sigh.

"Oh. OH."

"I think you should really see Mom." You say. "I mean, shit, she probably misses you more than i do."

"I don't know." Dad frowns. "That just might make things worse."

"She's also thinking about remarrying now, too." You point out.

"Name and address." Dad says extremely quickly.

"No, Dad, if you're gonna do this, it's going to be the hard way." You roll your eyes in exasperation.

"I figured you'd say that." Dad shakes his head.

"All right, we'll be taking those two warheads to be disposed of in a proper facility." Samantha says proudly as she walks in. "Wolf will make sure that they get there safely. I also went ahead to inform your mother of the good news!"

"You WHAT?!" You gasp.

"You WHAT?!" Dad gasps.

"Umm... was I not supposed to?" Samantha blinks.

"Did... did you tell her what I was doing?" You gulp.

"Well, of course!" Samantha nods, unaware of the gravity of her actions. "She sounded might surprised, though. You never told her?"

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

"Oh, it's nothing!" You chuckle nervously.

"Well, she seemed VERY eager to come see you, so I've made travel arrangements!" Samantha continues cheerfully, blissfully unaware of what she has done. "You can have her meet her here or we can fly you two up to North Osea!"

So, I found out about this quest about 2 weeks ago and man was I surprised and excited to see Karla again! So glad you guys went with the Belkan choice.

And now I've finally managed to catch a thread in time.

>>40268241
>A skill passed down from generation to generation, Karla demonstrates her inherited skill of the "BELKAN PAWNCH!"

By any chance, would Karla's father happen to count as a Belkan Knight? No? Eh, close enough. Though "Pilot Puncher" doesn't have quite the same tone...

>>40268624

Is it still too late to nobly and self-sacrificially destroy the V3 missiles and go down with the ship? It is? Damn.

"We'll uh, meet her at home." You begin to sweat.

"Sure thing, I'll arrange a flight up there." Samantha nods.

"I'm sure it will be a very happy reunion." Dad says, his stilted voice definitely giving away the fact that he wasn't looking forward to it either.

"Well, we should get going now, shouldn't we?" Samantha smiles. "Do you want Amy and Jager to accompany you as well? If not, we'll have them head back to B7R."

We can make it be the most awkward family reunion ever, of all time.

(Also, we should probably let Uncle know that Atlas and the other corps are fighting over one of the old Belkan Vaults. Because that might be important information. Though of course, this probably isn't something we tell him over the phone.)

Maybe we can distract her with Jaeger?

Only thing is, I wish we could get ALL of the WIld Cards to visit? Just doesn't feel right to only bring Amy and not Lara.

"I think I could use all the backup I can." You sigh. "Why not just have Lara and Lilian come over, too?"

"I don't see why not." Samantha nods. "I can have them meet you there, then. Ah, there's your plane, now!"

Samantha points out the window towards a small, private passenger jet, similar to the one that brought you here in the first place.

"How about you go ahead? I still have to make a few calls." You say.

"Sure thing." Dad nods and he follows Samantha out of the terminal.

After making sure that there was nobody around, you take out your phone and dial in Uncle's number. You had to tell him what was happening, even though you had the distinct feeling he already knew.

"Ah! Karla! So nice of you to call!" Uncle says cheerfully as always. "Did you find your father?"

"I think you should know that answer already." You say simply.

"Come now, just because I'm a spy doesn't make me omniscient!" Uncle chuckles.

"Well, in that case, yeah. I did find him. Alive and well." You sigh.

"You don't sound particularly happy." Uncle says in a concerned tone.

"Should I be? He DID he did ditch me and my Mom for twenty years, even if it was for a justifiable reason that I will not say loudly over the phone."

"I see, I see."

"And then my boss accidentally told Mom that I was flying fighters again." You continue. "So I 'm heading home to face the music."

"Oh dear." You can see Uncle shaking his head in amusement. "It was bound to happen sooner or later. Do you need me to come and do some damage control?"

"That would be nice." You say.

"Excellent! I'll meet you there, then!" Uncle says happily. "We can also take the opportunity to talk about more private matters, yes?"

"Yeah, that too." You say in agreement.

"Good! Until then!"

You put your phone away and glance over to the waiting passenger plane, which now seemed to be getting ready to take off. You see Dad, Amy, and Jager boarding as Samantha waves farewell. You quickly dash out to catch up.

"Well, good luck, Karla." Samantha smiles and pats you on the shoulder. "When you get back I expect you rested and refreshed! Still lots of work to do out there!"

"Assuming I'm still alive." You mutter.

"Yeah, family reunions can be rough, eh?" Samantha giggles. "Give me a call if you need anything!"

You give Samantha one last nod before boarding the plane. You see Dad, Amy, and Jager all sitting in separate seats. You consider sitting next to one of them. Then again, you're incredibly exhausted. You never even had a chance to sleep since landing in Rutherford in the first place.

Kinda want to hear if he ever flew against the Demon Lord. Or alongside some of the Belkan Aces. Not to mention that his Tigris Squadron as a whole went missing at the end of the war, and if they *all* got missions like dad and *all* ditched them, well. Unless the rest were shot down tho'.

Oh, there's also Euphrates Squadron -- Gelb 2 mentioned that most of them are still around.

Also maybe we'll mention the weird experience we had at the Demon Edges. After all, that's what first started us on this whole thing, it was where we first saw his plane...

"So, um, how did you meet Mom?" You ask, staring out the window as the clouds floated past.

"What, she never told you?" He blinks.

"Well, I'm sure you can understand why anything pertaining to you would be a touchy subject for her." You grumble.

"True." Dad nods sadly. "Well, uh, where do I even begin? We actually met when I enlisted into the Belkan Air Force."

"Mom was a pilot!?" You gasp.

"Oh, god no!" Dad laughs. "She worked in administration. Basically a secretary. One of those many logistics drones upon which our entire armed forces were built on."

"Mom never mentioned that she was part of the Belkan Air Force, even as a secretary." You frown.

"I don't imagine a lot of people would want to associate themselves with the Belkan military after what happened." Dad points out.

"Point." You concede. "There has to be more to it than that."

"Well, uh..." Dad chuckles. "There was the time I proposed to her."

"Oh, now this I have to hear." You lean in closer.

"So, we'd been dating for about a year or two, and felt we were ready, you know? So on the day I decided to pop the question, I made sure that your mother was working in the office that day. I got into my plane for a routine patrol run, but when I came back to base, I may have, uh, buzzed the admin building."

"How close?"

"Close enough that when I hit afterburners I shook the whole damn building! Everybody on the other end thought they were getting hit by an earthquake!" Dad chortles.

"Jesus, how long did they put you in, for?" You gasp.

"They grounded me for three months after that." Dad laughs.

"I'm surprised they didn't kick you out." You blink. "That seems pretty light."

"Well, those were different times. The BAF actually used to encourage pilots to show off their skills." Dad chuckles.

"And Mom was impressed?"

"Well, she did knock me on my ass, but I can tell she appreciated the sentiment." Dad laughed. "She said yes, in case you didn't know."

"There was never a time where I thought Mom would actually appreciate near suicidal acts in a fighter jet." You muse.

"You mean she doesn't, now?" Dad blinks.

"She didn't exactly take your 'disappearance' well." You state bluntly. "She blamed a lot of things, but mostly the 'fighter pilot mentality'."

"Ah, I didn't know..." Dad sighs. "And she let you be a fighter pilot?"

"Ha, I did NOT choose this lifestyle with her blessing." You shake your head. "After the first time I nearly bit it, I had to keep this gig on the down low. Well, until now. She'll probably chop my head off along with yours."

"Wait, the 'first time'?" He asks.

And how can you compare traumas? do you think running for your life getting shot in the trenches is worse than being helpless while freefalling in a flying coffin 4000ft above sea level listening to the panicked cries of nuggets getting shot down?
>>
>>40271466
Having been in the trenches and not a Pilot I wouldn't know, but I wouldn't try to say whether one is worse than the other, they are both pretty heavily traumatic experiences and to try to decide whether one is more 'worthy' or not as impactful is utterly retarded and disrespectful of you anon.
>>
Ah, the 'joys' of PTSD

I remember hearing a story once from rather unusual English lady who used to man the radios during world war 2. She realized years latter she had gotten ptsd from listening to the screams of dying German and English pilots during the Battle of Britain. Of course people didn't really talk about it back then, so she wasn't able to quite pinpoint why she felt so terrible for years after the war.

It wasn't the bombs that blew up her house and her neighbours. Or the constant fear of invasion. Those didn't really bother her as much as she suspected. It was those unseen pilots high up in the sky, begging for their mother as they burst into flame or crashed that bothered her the most.

"Yeah..." You bite your lip as flashes of your old nightmares come back to haunt you. "I joined up with the Osean air force. I was barely out of the academy when the Yukes attacked. Sent us to defend this place called Sand Island from a Yuke assault. Shit happened and, well, I ended being the only one in my class to make it out. Barely. That's where I got this little scar."

At this point, you've lived with the burden for so long you've honestly gotten pretty numb over it.

"I'm so sorry, Karla." Dad wraps his arms around you and hugs you close.

"You lose guys, too?" You ask.

"Too many." He sighs.

"And I take it you never forgot?"

"Nope."

"I thought so." You say sadly.

---

You're not sure when you fell asleep, but you wake up with your face pressed against Dad's chest, your face still wet from fresh tears.

"Come on, we've landed." Jager leans in from the aisle. "Better get off before they kick us off."

Amy then passes by, and it looks like she's about to spout off another one of her half thought-out wisecracks, but she looks at you and your Dad and gets second thoughts, continuing past without a word.

"Come on, Karla, rise and shine." Dad says as he gently pushes you upright. "It's time to face the music."

"I guess so." You sigh, like a prisoner on death row. "Let's go."

As you exit the plane and head down the boarding stairs, you see a couple of waiting SUVs with the Artemis logo on the side. You see the door on one of them burst open and a very familiar and very hyper girl comes rushing out.

"KARLAAAAAA!" Lara cries happily.

"Hey, Lara!" You say as you subtly lean back a bit and brace your footing. Your wingmate slams into you like a freight train as she engages a flying tackle hug.

"IT'S BEEN SOOOOOOOOOOO LONG!" She squeals.

"Lara, I've been gone for like, a day." You point out.

"And it still felt like forever!" Lara insists and then switches her sights on Amy. "AMMMYYYY!"

"Augh!" Amy shrieks as she's nowhere near as prepared as you to handle Lara's tackle hug and both girls fall onto the tarmac with a loud WHUMP.

"You would not believe how anxious she was to see you all again." Lilian smiles as she walks up to greet you. "Poor girl. She gets lonely so easily."

"I can see that." You grunt.

"Looks like you've got yourself some good wingmates." Dad grins.

"Oh my, you're Mr. Weiss, I presume? Samantha mentioned Karla found you." Lilian shakes Dad's hand politely.

"WHOA THAT'S KARLA'S DAD?!" Lara springs back up to her feet.

"Now that we're all here, I think we should all start getting into the vehicles." Jager quickly swoops in, sparing Dad from Lara's hyperactivity. You can see him breathing a huge sigh of relief.

"Aww, fine." Lara pouts.

All of you cram into an SUV and you take off towards home.

"It looks so different." Dad breathes as his eyes dart around. "It's like I'm in a completely different country now."

"Well, that's literally the case." You remind him. "This is Osean territory now."

"I keep forgetting." Dad sighs. "I can't even recognize my own hometown anymore. How am I going to deal with my own wife?"

After all, Uncle *is* the one who first suspected that Dad was alive. So he's the one who would have had the longest to prepare for handling this.

I'm not sure if that's a good idea -- because I mean, in the end, she thought she'd LOST him because of his being a fighter pilot...

She didn't take it well when hearing about Karla becoming a fighter pilot too.

Well the only thing I can really think of is... either Uncle wrangles us to fly for the Belkan Air Force again -- and we possibly encounter One Belka and political intrigue earlier-ish.

Or if you meant "what if we just kept flying commercial planes?" then maybe due to some weird events we'd end up being the one to fly Harling's own plane. And have to survive on our own for a bit. Or just fly straight while fighter pilots defend us and do all the fighting.

Or maybe we just start the 108th Tactical plot-line earlier, such as by meeting somebody at the memorial.

Eh... Maybe there's also the One Belka route. Though I can't really see this Karla as being the type to go for that; but again that would've been at the very start when just establishing the character.

Oh! That's what you meant... Well uh, I dunno.

I'm very glad you chose the Belkan though; Karla showed up again. Although... I wonder if we would've gotten the Belkan as a wingwoman anyway, instead of playing as her?

"Just lie back and think of Belka." You crack a grin.

"That is not funny." Dad frowns.

"So Karla! What's your mom like?" Lara asks.

"She's only the most terrifying being to ever walk this planet." You remark. "Don't get me wrong, I love her to death, but she can be EXTREMELY stubborn."

"I suppose it's something that runs in the family." Lilian chuckles.

"You know, I thought family reunions were supposed to be HAPPY." Amy shakes her head.

"Oh, you sweet summer child." You pat Amy on the head. "You were graced with a fairly normal childhood free of dysfunction. You could never understand."

"She's not actually going to hurt or kill either of you, is she?" Jager asks.

"Ahahahahahah..." Both you and Dad laugh nervously. "...maybe."

"Sounds fun." Jager shrugs.

"All right, we're here." The driver announces as the SUV rolls to a stop.

You look out the window to see your old house. Besides a coat of paint or two, it was literally unchanged from when you last saw it.

"Heh, that's one thing I do recognize." Dad grins.

Suddenly, the front door bursts open, and you see the ball of fury that was Mom stomp out, frying pan in hand. Her eyes lock with Dad's for one brief, terrible moment.

"YOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!" She screams as she points the pan at Dad.

Dad looks at you in a silent but desperate plea for help.

"Well! Good luck, Dad!" You happily pat him on the shoulder. Good thing it seemed Mom was more pissed with him than you.

"Some daughter you aaaaaaaaare!" Dad cries as he sprints off down the street, Mom, tailing him like a MiG-31 chasing its prey. Probably just as fast, too.

"Daaaaaaang. They run pretty fast for old people." Lara whistles.

"They're not OLD." Your eye twitches. "Mom gains a frightening amount of strength when she's pissed, and Dad? Well, I'm chalking that up to all the adrenaline."

"Oh dear, have I missed the party already?" Uncle asks as she suddenly strolls up behind you.

"Nah, you're just in time." You point to the scene of Mom chasing down Dad.

"Oho, I see he hasn't lost any of that speed of his!" Uncle laughs. "Ah, since we were having a bit of a family reunion, I decided to bring an acquaintance of yours!"

Uncle then steps aside and pushes over a short, very familiar redhead.

"Milly?" You blink.

You decide that you had to act before either Mom or Dad got a heart attack from all the running around. Plus it was starting to attract attention and the last thing you needed was to have the cops come down to snoop around.

"Play along Milly." You say, patting her on the shoulder.

"What are you talking about?" Milly blinks in confusion.

You take a deep breath before yelling.

"HEY MOM!" You bellow. "I GOT A LITTLE SISTER NOW."

"What what WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!" Mom sputters and glares at Dad.

"Hey, this is news to me, too." He tries to assure her.

"Ah, um, what am I supposed to do!?" Milly whimpers.

"YOU ARE SO ADOOOOORABLE!" Mom squeals as she literally hauls Milly off her feet in a massive bear hug. "I COULD JUST EAT YOU UP!"

"I'm not adorable!" Milly protests as she tries to struggle out of Mom's ironclad grip. She would never get out. Lord knows you've tried before.

"Oh dear, it looks like Milly's in a bit of a pickle." Uncle chortles. "But you saved your father, at least."

Bravo Sierra, the only reason why Mobius One lost that particular engagement because he is still disoriented after thrown back thru time to 1995.

"Sure thing." You nod, wryly noted how Mom was fussing over Milly's tomboyish appearance. You wonder if she was going to try and play dress up, which would be absolutely hilarious to watch. Your wingmates, naturally, were egging Mom on at Milly's expense.

"Well, I suppose you want to know about the Trinity missiles?" You ask.

"I had an idea of what they were capable of." Uncle nods. "Good for you to destroy them."

"Yeah, well, I do have some bad news." You sigh. "The corps are fighting over the Vaults, too. There's one where practically everybody is fighting over right now."

"I'm aware of that." Uncle nods. "We've also had reports of One Belka activity increasing. They're preparing for something big, but we're not sure what yet."

"There's also the fact that they followed me to Dad's farm." You point out.

"Ah yes, it looks like they're keeping surveillance on you." Uncle shakes his head. "You've become rather unpopular among their ranks."

"Gee, I can't imagine why." You roll your eyes.

"I suggest you leave the merc business, or lower your profile." Uncle warns. "Things are only going to get worse from here."

"You know I can't back down." You narrow your eyes.

"I figured you wouldn't." Uncle nods. "Just a word of warning."

"Anyways, let's change the subject." You say quickly. "You happen to now where I can find Morgan parts?"

(cont)
>>
>>40273334

"Morgan parts?" Uncle raises an eyebrow. "Why would you need those?"

"I salvaged one. It's in rough shape, though." You reveal.

"Really now?" Uncle frowns. "There's only one place to find those, and it would be the OB headquarters, wherever it is."

"Ah."

"We suspect it's hidden somewhere in B7R, possibly a repurposed Vault. I know it's not much, but it's all we have."

"Some spy you are." You roll your eyes. "Any leads, then?"

"You'll have to venture deeper into OB territory." Uncle says simply. You guess that would be the most obvious method.

"KARLA HELP MEEEEEE!" You hear Milly squeal.

You turn to see Milly being chased by Mom, holding one of the girliest, frilliest dresses you've ever seen.

You recognize it because it was something you used to (be forced) to wear.

"Sorry, Milly, but I'm kinda curious to see you in cute clothes for once." You chuckle.

"TRAITOOOOOOR!" Milly bellows.

"Don't worry, Milly, you'll get used to it after the first two or three dresses!" You say happily. "And then it'll be like they're not even there!"

"Nooooooo!" Milly wails when Mom finally catches up to her.

Suffice to say, Milly got some free clothes that day.

"I hate this so much..." She grumbles as she tugs at the hem of the frilly skirt she's wearing.

"Oh, but that blush on your face says otherwise!" Mom says as she backs up. Your realize too late that she's backing up towards you and she grabs you in a chokehold like a viper striking its prey.

"So, what's this I hear about you flying fighter planes again?" She as in a poisonously sweet tone.

"Honestly? I couldn't think of doing anything else." You smile. "I mean, there's something about flying in that big blue sky up there that just can't be matched. I'm sorry about lying to you like that, Mom, but it's just something I feel I have to do. I know the risks, and I understand them, but that's not going to stop me."

"You sound just like your father." Mom sighs, glaring at Dad. "Though I suppose I can sort that out with him privately."

Uh huh, "sort out". Sure.

"ANYWAYS." You continue, trying to change the subject. "Mom, these are my wingmates, Lara, Lilian, and Amy. And this here is my boyfriend!"

You grab Jager and pull him forward so that Mom can get a better look at him.

"Oh... oh my." Mom gasps. "You certainly can't do any worse than this! "So professional looking...."

"Thank you, ma'am." Jager nods respectfully.

"And with manners, too! He's definitely a keeper!"

"Mom!" You hiss, your cheeks reddening.

"What? I'm only telling the truth!"

You just shake your head. Sometimes you just loved and hated Mom so goddamn much.

You wouldn't have it any other way.

Jenner
Lucina
Char
Tarin
Karla
Sam

Oh hey. So that cop Karla's mom mentioned that brought an anti-tank rifle. Apparently that was a thing from the actual game. I'd been going through some LP videos, and finally came across that AC 5 mission.

Ah damn, one thing I'd forgotten/wish we'd gotten around to: asking dad if he ever flew against the Demon Lord, and telling him about our encounter in the Demon Edges.

We might have hallucinated all that, but -- we saw dad's plane come in to save our ass... That's how this whole search for him really started, actualy.
