You are Alex Mauerhan, a somewhat average student. Tall and beginning to pack on muscle for football, you take after your father. Oh yeah, you just found out that your dad is Hercules.

You've had a frantic couple of weeks, starting with saving a golden deer from a hellhound. He then took you to camp Halfblood, leaving you with a piece of his horn. You fight for the Greeks in the capture the flag game, fighting with Marco and Amber to pull it from the Romans. With the help of the daughter of Hephaestus, Lucy, you make a set of magical cesta which can change into two gold and bronze rings.

Armed with your new fists of imperial gold and celestial bronze(wow, that doesn't roll off the tongue as well as fists of steel), you team up with Marco and Lucy for the treasure hunt. Together, you kill a small drakon and some headless monsters. Hidden inside their bodies, are two black boxes. After the game, Chiron opens the boxes for each winning team. The Hercules, Hephaestus, and ares cabins get better time slots for shower time, along with double desserts for a week. Totally worth almost dying.

One of the perks of being an only child, showers are private. There's horror stories from a few years ago, before Percy got unclaimed their own cabin, the Hermes showers were hell. Combine overcrowding and a genetic predisposition to pranks, and you get some very interesting stories.

Toweling off, you pass a group of campers. A couple heads turn your way from the girl's line, looks like the hot waters about to run out. So glad you won good slots in the treasure hunt, it's gonna suck next week. Chiron's been talking about getting some Hephaestus campers to build a a new hot water tank powered by Greek fire. We'll see how that plays out.

After breakfast, you schedule the week's classes. Councilor-hood adds some extra paperwork to camp life, thank the gods you don't actually have any siblings. With that horrible image fresh in your mind, it's time for Pegasus-riding lessons. While you're in formation over camp halfblood, a streak of fiery light shoots past your class. The winged horses break formation, whinnying their fear.

>go into the light Alex

You squeeze your heels into the pegasus' barrel, the offspring of the legendary monster calming down with a few quiet words. She flies in the direction of comet, lather building up from class and the sudden speed.

"WHERE ARE YOU GOING CAMPER?" The councilor leading the class shouts at you, but their voice dies down as you race away. Minutes stream past you like water, following the glowing course of the light. Your horse punches through a cloud, finally proving that they are really made of water. Teeth chattering, with droplets shooting back towards camp halfblood from your hair. The light suddenly changes course, stopping on a drachma and shooting back at you.

Your pegasus, clover, rolls over to avoid the comet. Your feet slip from their stirrups, leaving you hanging by the saddle horn. You turn to watch the comet, as it changes course once more to it's original direction. Clover turns back upright, and you climb bodily back into the saddle.

Almost an hour passes as you follow it, hanging back a bit so it doesn't charge you again. A massive rumbling comes from behind you, louder than anything you've ever heard. You turn to face it, and almost fall from your mount when two F-16's are matching your speed. Hades knows what they're seeing through the Mist, but they are gonna be telling their families about it tonight.

"Rodger maverick, I'm registering a crop duster. Heat signature's off though and how'd it get up here?"
"It's also doing Mach 2...you wanna go back home?"
"Rodger that"

The two jets peel off, circling back the way they came. Turning back to the comet, it's falling more than flying. Clover goes into a dive, following the light. You're somewhere in the mountains, but beyond that you're lost. It breaks into the pine forest, the branches snapping like gunshots. Your mount hovers over the canopy, wings buffeting the trees. A growl comes from the ground, a deep bass rumbling that reverberates through the pine needles.

You grip your hands together, interlocking your fingers. When the rings touch, they expand and coat your forearms in the metal and soft leather of your cestus. Armed with the heavenly metal gloves, you slip off the pegasus and onto a tree branch. The winged horse flaps away, leaving you to face the whatever you are following.

The armored gloves stop the sap from sticking to your hands, a fate worse than death. As you slowly climb down, you keep an eye for the cause of the light. Whatever it was, the lights gone now. You hop down from a branch a few feet off the ground, the thick pine tree bare on one side from the comet's impact. A small crater sits in the center of the newly made clearing, missing whatever it was that caused it.

Green smoke comes hissing out of the crater, forming into two two streams and intertwining like a strand of DNA. It creeps through the air, spinning around your body. It doesn't seem to be hurting you, just hissing like a nest of snakes. It speaks, in a voice made of thousands.

"You shall journey to the edge of the world with the child of light"

"Climb the stars to the realm of night"

"Steal the fallen shard of heaven's glass"

"Fathers deeds the halfbloods must surpass"

"With all success, come failure beyond earth's reach"

The gas recedes back into the crater, sucked back to it like iron filings to a magnet. Your horse walks through the forest towards you, antsy near the crater. You mount up, changing your weapons back into rings. The winged horse flaps once, it's massive tawny wings kicking up dust and twigs.

You fly back to the camp, your horse flying at a much slower pace. You touch down in the strawberry fields, the pegasus snacking on them as you dismount. It takes off once you're out of range of it's wings, heading back to its stable.

"Just who do you think you are, nephew? Now I'll have to grow new ones or we'll be below our quota," the camp director calls to you from the Big House. As you watch, a leftover strawberry sprouts and grows into a full sized plant.

You wave over to Mr. D, then follow the tilled field to the pathway. You've been repeating what the weird gas said, trying to memorize the exact wording.

Unsure of what to do next, you walk over to the big house. Chiron and Mr. D are playing a card game with a wood nymph, her skin a faint green color. You tell them the story of the comet and the green gas that enveloped you. When you reach that part, Chiron and Mr. D exchange a quick glance that you almost miss. Mr. D's permanently flushed face is drawn into a scowl, though he hides it by studying his cards.

"It would seem a god issued a prophecy. Who this "light's child" is, I haven't a clue, but they will likely be important. Now, seeing how this is your first quest, I'll explain the rules to you. As the one who received the prophecy, you shall be leading. Often, the number of participants is three, including the leader. However, it seems you'll be picking up another along the way. I'll leave it up to you who to bring with you, though it is voluntary for your companions. I'll arrange for transportation and gear, though if you want anything special you'll need to give me some time to find it." Chiron says, then plays what looks like a winning hand. Or losing, the game is something you've never seen before.

Ah, but see, we don't know about that yet. Even if we did there was that guy that went in a quest with seven people, ended up uniting two groups of people, finding one of the greatest lost treasures of mankind, defeating some stupid powerful enemies and breaking up an ancient curse. If there is one lesson life has taken upon itself to teach me, it is that you will always need a lighter when you don't have one. It is always when you least expect it and can be for things ranging from annoying to INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT.

Always. ALWAYS. BRING. A. LIGHTER.

You give Chiron a list of items that sound useful, bow to Mr. D, and leave to assemble your team. Marco grins ear to ear at the prospect of fighting more monsters, apparently Chiron needs to "diversify the monsters in the woods". Lucy agrees after a slight pause, then lowers her bed from the roof to get her backpack. Hephaestus cabin is a mechanical death trap in your opinion, too many open flames and heavy machinery to double as a bedroom. Amber, surrounded by a group of girls prettier than anyone has a right to be, laughs at your bumbling proposal. It doesn't help that she though you were asking her out for the first five minutes. Finally, you talk with Megan at dinner. She smiles brightly(IM BLIND! SOMEONE GET ME A BRAILLE KEYBOARD), then says yes. Your team sits together at a separate picnic table, listening raptly to your retelling of the prophecy.

"What's heaven's glass?"
"What deeds does it mean?"
"You gonna eat that Alex?"
"Where's the edge of the world?"

You answer the questions as best you can, mostly taking the form of "I dunno". You spend a few days gathering gear, and getting shipments from Hermes express. You get a large military backpack, the largest size available. It gets stuffed with clothes and gear, magical and mundane. You get a roman lorica segmentata, the steel a plain dull silver, your only piece of armor besides your cesti. Along with some good hiking boots and the round shield, you have the strange mix of ancient and modern that accompanies demigodhood. A celestial bronze sword hangs off your belt, balanced by a leatherman multitool.
>>
does our Mother know where we are since we did leave in the middle school and came here.
>>
Marco has his combat gear, large backpack, and a golf bag with swords and spears jammed into it. Lucy has a strange contraption in place of a normal backpack, though she has a small bag at her feet and her crossbow unstrung across her back. Ambers looking at her best, dressed in designer jeans and faux military jacket. A sword and shield are crossed on her back, painted with the twin swans of her mother. Lastly, Megan shows up with a spear and dagger. Her golden hair is covered by a baseball cap, the logo a disgusting dodgers. Her bronze cuirass is polished to a mirror, which Amber checks her makeup in. Her bag is bugling with the gear she brought, a fuzzy arm sticking out through the top.

Chiron hands you the keys to a Honda Odyssey, the vanity plate reading "OLYMPS7". You pile into it, throwing everyone's gear in the back. While it's still illegal for you to drive after midnight, it's not like a cop is gonna pull over a bunch of teenagers out at night with no adult supervision and carrying weapons beyond his mortal ken.

You wave goodbye to your new home, the closest thing to heaven in the world for a demigod. Let's hope it doesn't take you too long to get back. Pulling onto the freeway, you zone out and focus on the road.

>What is the realm of night
>Who to get the meteor back from

"People used to think the edge of the world was to the west, right? What if we go as far west as possible?" Marco guesses, then goes back to his ds.
"HAWAII!" Amber shouts, directly in your ear. Thank you for your input Marco. "Ohmygods, yes. We have to go to Hawaii. Best quest ever!"
>>40285648
That gets people arguing for a solid hour, debating the structural integrity of its necks and if they could support the increased weight. Eventually, you decide to try it when you fight a hydra.

You lapse into small talk, then silence as people sleep, read, or play super smash bros. You turn west, it seems like the edge of the world would be there. At least you got a minivan, this would probably lead to murder if you got a smaller car. After a few hours you switch places with Amber, whose the only other person whose had a license for more than a few months.

A couple rotations of this later, you park outside a motel. As the oldest looking(one of the benefits of being tall), you rent a room. The girls commandeer the two beds, leaving you and Marco in your sleeping bags. You check the news, there's been a large number of strange comets, baffling scientists on their origins. Paris Hilton went to rehab, which got a lot more coverage.

Something catches your eye, a live broadcast of a local holiday. A guy's costume looks a bit too realistic, a giant man eating a goat leg like a drumstick.

Lucy is the closest thing we seem to have to a brains of the group (maybe Megan but she didn't get much development yet), so we should ask her to research about Hercules specially the more obscure enemies. We'll probably meet each one of them.

"Anyone else see that?" You glance up from the TV, most of your group looks up from whatever they were doing. Megan was watching the tv from her bed, and nods. "Any idea what that was? Giant, eating a goat leg, looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger had a baby with a gorilla?"
"Sounds like a laestrygone. They tend to travel in packs. We better go check it out." Marco says, an expert on monsters.

You put on a hoodie, then hang your sword off your belt. The Mist should disguise it, maybe into a crutch or baton. Who know, mortals will see so many weird things. Everyone grabs their weapons, but they leave their armor in the hotel room. You troop past the checkout desk, a highschool sports team armed to the teeth.

When you get out of the car at the festival, someone presses a balloon into your hand. It'd be rude to let it go, so you carry it with you in the search for the man eating giant. You find him on the street, towering over the rest of the crowd. Nine of his best friends are spread around the crowd, eating goat legs like comically large turkey legs.

You pass the balloon on to another random person, then slip behind one of the giants. It snorts loudly, then mutters about allergies. He goes back to his goat leg, his pointed teeth ripping away a chunk of flesh from the bone. You lag behind him, your hand ready to draw your sword if needed.

The giant man wanders through the streets, his snack slowly dwindling. You glance at your watch, the digital display reading past three in the morning. The monsters finally leave the crowds behind, throwing the bones to the ground. Your party creeps through the streets after them, Marco and Lucy on the rooftops. Marco uses parkour to get around, flipping and diving from roof to roof. Lucy has a strange rig on, each jump sending a puff of compressed air and grappling hook out. It's not the simplest way, but it possibly is the coolest.

The monsters congregate in a warehouse, three massive bonfires cooking their next meal. You can see thirteen scattered around the room, with a table and chairs built to their dimensions between two of the cook fires. Lucy says there is a map on the table, held down by four disassembled engine blocks.

"Tony? Is that you?" One of the giants says to you, squinting down at you.
"Ye-yeah. Itsa me, Tony. I'a can't believe you'd forget me in...however long it's been." You reply in a Italian accent, a bad one at that.
"Back in '06 man, there was that little seasquirt in that hippie school. We were so close to getting him, I could taste it."
"Oh yeah. I spent some time in Greece, you make it there?"
"Nah tony, too busy. It's good to get you back, we got some tasty mortals over in the crates. One's HUGE! All that fat'll be amazin'."

You walk over to the map, eyes scanning it quickly. A few cites have little blue flags in them, while two red flags in New York and San Francisco mark your camps. A cluster of flags are offshore, Hawaii you think.

"Hey man, been outta the loop for a while now. Something happening out west?" You point a ketchup covered finger at the map, the tomato sauce dripping into the Pacific Ocean.
"Didn't they tell you at the gates? There's that star chick, she has this thing, I don't know what it is, but it's important. So, we gettin a bunch of guys to go take it. Weren't you in Greece? That's were they were plannin it...you smell that tony? Smells like demigod," uh oh. Time to go.
"Well, it's been real nice, but I gotta get going. See you around."
"Hold on man, you can't go out now," the monster places one massive hand on your chest, "not without a weapon! Imma hook you up my man. We got clubs, extended maces made of wood, and cudgels, bludgeons, and clubs! What you want?"
"I'll take a club then." The monster roots around in wooden box, then pulls out a wood and metal staff about five feet long.
"There ya go buddy, see you in Honolulu."

You walk out the door, new club in hand, suppressing laughter with a Sisyphean effort. You wave to your friends, using the club like a walking stick. "Sup guys, they gave me a stick." Everyone's jaws drop, they just watched a strange sight even for demigods.

We and Marco start a distraction (grenades? grenades!) while the girls free the prisoner mortals and then they come from behind the monster in a pincer maneuver.

>>40289842
agreed
>>
>>40289730
have Marco pitch the grenades to us while we use the our new club like a bat and hit them towards the giants while Lucy, Megen and Amber go and rescue the mortals.

"There's people in there, about to be dinner. Marco, you and me are gonna draw the giants out while everyone else gets them free then backs us up. Lucy, find somewhere to shoot from," your team nods, then gets to work. Lucy shoots a hook into the roof of the warehouse, kneeling with her crossbow looking down at the doorway. The two bronze arrowheads are pulled backwards, three pumps of the lever cocking it fully.

The two other girls climb up the walls, waiting for your signal to break the windows. Marco places what looks like a claymore(the explosive, not the sword) facing the door, and twists something on the top to face the door.

"GUYS! HELP! HALFBLOODS OUTSIDE!" You shout in your giant voice, and listen to them stand up fast enough to knock a chair over with a crash. You watch in horror as the girls break the windows too quickly, crashing into the warehouse before the monsters exit. Amber screams out of your view, and you run forward. Marco runs ahead of you, and turns the claymore to the side. You ram through the door, sadly not leaving a Alex-shaped hole in the metal. The monsters have picked up their clubs, circled up in a tight group. Lucy is taking potshots at them, using her mobility gear to escape the swings of the monsters' clubs. Amber was less lucky, lying in a crumpled heap against a wall. Marco is holding his sword up, taking a long route around the giants to get to amber.

You heft the bronze and wood club, holding the heavy weapon easily. You charge forward at the mass of monster flesh, ducking the slow strikes of the monsters. One goes over your shoulder, and you swing against a nearby knee. The giant crumples, it's ruined joint giving out under its weight.

Another monster slams it's club down on your back, the oak branch leaving a few leaves behind. You dive backwards, away from the many clubs raining down in your direction. One more cracks against your chest, making you wonder why you didn't wear your armor. One of the monsters crumples into yellow dust, the two bolts in its chest clattering on the concrete.

Megan jabs her spear into the circle of monsters, protecting you as you get up. The pain doesn't go away, but thanks to being a demigod, you're a lot stronger and tougher than mortals. Thanks dad. Two monsters are dead, their dust being kicked around by the remaining monsters. You are standing next to Megan, her spear flickering out to stab at the hands of the giants when they swing at you. Marco has finally reached amber, though you can't see how she's doing. Lucy is still harrying the giants from the girders, taking shots at them, hanging by a golden thread

You take a deep breath, driving away the pain for the time being. There are lives on the line, including a really hot chick's. The largest monster charges at Marco and Amber, his club as tall as you. You charge after him, and swing the club into the back of its legs as it takes a step.

The monster falls over with a thundering crash, the hardwood club denting the concrete. You slam your club into it's hips, crushing the bones beneath it. You step up to its head, wind up, and with a cry of "fore", slam the club into the monster's head. It dissolves beneath the teak and bronze, a wave of dust flung up by the impact.

You charge back at the other ten monster...wait, make that nine. Thanks Lucy. Your giant weapon slams into the chest and legs of the monsters in a whirlwind of strikes. Four turn to sand beneath so many blows, before the next is parried and you get thrown away from the group. Marco throws you a grenade from his pocket, the pin still in it. You pull it off, then throw it at the circle of monsters

The one it hits laughs at the impact, then scrambles backwards when he sees what you threw. It explodes in a small wave of bronze shrapnel, shredding the monsters and nearby crates. All of them dissolve into yellow sand, covering the floor. You look over at Marco, a bag of ambrosia half full in his hands. Amber is lying against the wall, a impact splatter of blood five feet up.

"She'll live, lucky I got to her quickly enough. A few more minutes, and then all the ambrosia in the world wouldn't have helped her. Give her half an hour, then it'll be safe for her to move." Marco stows away his meds, then pulls a cliffbar from his pocket.

You sit in the monster den while you wait for the daughter of Aphrodite to heal, her skin feverish from eating too much ambrosia. You get up before she's fully healed, and move a couple of crates to form a funnel for the mortals. You rip off the wall of crate holding the mortals, the fat man falling from the hole.

"You were kidnapped by a college basketball team, who put you in that crate as an act of hazing for the new members. Please leave." You slowly herd the protesting hostages out the door, then slam it closed behind them. You walk back to your group check with Marco, then pick amber's limp body up.

"I really don't like my friends getting hurt. Next fight, wait until you get the signal," carrying Amber in your arms, you walk back to your van. Marco takes the wheel, driving well below the speed limit and around pot holes. Back at the motel, you gently lift carry amber past the desk and up the stairs. The sleeping girl clings tightly to you as you try to put her in her bed, until you shake enough to wake her slightly.
